What is Lorenzo’s sexuality?

Here’s what we know

1. Lorenzo gets married to Zach, an cis man

2. Lorenzo said little one wasn’t his type, her brother (Zach was)

3. In the Lorenzo Zach bonus chapter, Lorenzo says he was married to a woman but had an amicable divorce when she realized before him that he was gay

Now, in the early 2000’s and late 90’s people knew what bisexuality was but there was (and often still is) this idea that you have to choose one, same with gender. You were male or female. Now we know we can be both or neither. Sexuality and gender is far more complicated

Despite my lil Drabble for Angela I don’t think Lorenzo is the most attracted to fem presenting at least off the bat. He was married but other than stating his wife asked for the divorce bc she knew he was gay before he figured it out, we don't know much about their relationship. We knew they were friends for a long time and dated for a long time and lorenzo proposed bc thats what you did after dating for years. His wife was a cisgender woman.

Lables are complicated.

I call Lorenzo gay, because in the story that's what he is and there was no reason to subvert that as he loves Zach and they are v happy together. There was no reason to dive into the complexitites of what Lorenzo's sexuality is because he is not the center of either story and although I could have went into that, there was no need. Additionally, given the world falling apart in early 2000's, there is not the langauge or understand of gender, sex, relationships, attraction etc that there is now, especially not to the common person.

What we do know about Lorenzo is he is an open, relaxed, loving person, who loves Zach, little one, Ellie and his family from before very, very much.

I think his first go-to when looking for a romantic or sexual partner is someone masc (much like me, I am bi sexual but def a preference towards men. Doesn't mean I'm not attracted to women and non binary people) I don't think any of that means he wouldn't be open to exploring with someone non binary, generfluid, and so on, whether or not they are AFAB. And if he makes a connection, if he falls in love, then dammit he falls in love. I think he probably did love his wife outside of their friendship, it just wasn't right.

We'll never really know, because Lorenzo is happily married and monogamous, and him and Zach are together forever.

When it comes to sexuality I see Lorenzo as that Creed meme from the office. "I’m not offended by homosexuality. In the 60s I made love to many, many women – often outdoors in the mud and the rain – and it’s possible that a man slipped in. There’d be no way of knowing. "

V much a go with the flow kind of person. He has his go-to's but that doesn't mean every else is disqualified.

And know you, knowing your fun energy, goofiness, and good heart i bet he'd fall tf in love so fast he wouldn't know what hit him.

The heck kind of leaks did I wake up to 😭 Catch me at 3am going nope nope do not- as I read about quirks evolving, also whats up with the world going to hell and Compress and Geten having a casual chat in prison saying they have plenty of time?? Geez, comedic duo I did not see coming. But bless: no phoenix quirk. But also: I dislike the dunking on Touya's narrative that makes him the masterpiece Endy always wanted. I pray fandom doesn't clown Endy for that because it would just be annoying. That's not the reason I wanted Touya's worth and life to be respected. And then the GETEN HIMURA, dammit. I was hoping the obvious fire/ice quirk wouldn't always lead to a family connection but here we are. These Todoroki's and their issues smh. I hope the memes and jokes about Japan being talked about as "entirely other" like one would consider the worldbuilding of a fantasy manga when considering culture isn't too bad out there. It's a real place, with real people living even in your country, and so many concepts are actually spread all over every asian country not just that. Hell, I've had hispanic friends tell me so as well. I say this because apparently some people are treating the concept of Touya being "first-born" and the weight it holds as "yeah just a thing Japan does" I get in this interconnected global world we like peering into other countries and cultures we don't understand and shrug it off like a strange other society far-removed from us, but I don't think people in the west realize how universal this is + the cousin marriage thing regardless of how squicky it is. I understand, but maybe tone down blowing up at other asians and shaming the entire concept in front of their faces? Some of those people might have their parents wanting them to get engaged to their cousin, or might know friends and family who are, and that kind of behavior when Geten is a DISTANT cousin, not even 2nd or 3rd or 4th with different lineages beyond the main family line is, kinda insane. You're absolutely free to find it problematic or even disturbing, I as an asian had that concern as well, just PSA to not over-react in a way that makes people familiar with those cultural practices feel bad. (also again....distant, Geten is so freaking distant. It's so trivial, if you find that disturbing, think of how someone marrying their 3rd or 4th cousin might feel? thinking "that" was far-removed enough that they would be okay with it and here's the internet flipping tables over Geten whose even further removed from the main family.)

Honestly, I can't say that I'm all that surprised that Hori took the route he did now that it's been awhile and the knowledge of the chapter has sunken in.

I still think giving Dabi an ice quirk undermines his story and I don't really know what the point of it was other than to shame Endeavor (while also spreading the message that only if he had abused his son more he would have realised he was "perfect" which is very icky even though it was unintentional).

As you said, Touya being the "perfect" son shouldn't have been why his life was respected by his father.

As for Geten being a Himura... Oof to all the people who shipped him with Dabi firstly (not that they still can't but fandom can be quick to attack other ships with problematic elements like these).

Personally I'm not really sure why Hori made that so because it does little to offer commentary on the story anymore, especially as he's done a terrible time at effective worldbuilding.

But I do agree that fandom needs to be careful when approaching topics like this. It's very easy to look at the story through a western lense and be rude to other cultures because of that. Yes, there is real reasons why incest is frowned upon such as the biological issues it has however you can discuss it in a way that's respectful and not insulting (sadly a nuance that fandom has not mastered).

God, what is it with Hori putting complicated themes in his story but not handling them satisfyingly.

I guess my only surprise is that there’s only one Disco (Star Trek: Discovery) fic in there, but it’s rather nice that apart from #3 and #5, they’re all Sapphic fics! Actually, I’m slightly surprised there are no James Bond (Craig)/M (Dench) fics in my Top 10 - in fact, I’ve just checked and I’d have to list my Top **40** before I hit a Bond fic - and then it doesn’t even have 100 Kudos! (Mind, I’m not complaining that my Holby fics are vastly more popular!)

I haven’t really considered which are my Top 10 fics - I like things when I’m writing them, then I don’t tend to give them much thought because I’ve already moved on to writing something else!!

But, that said (and in no particular order because Dammit, Janet, I am not gonna try to rank my own fics!):

Letters to a Naturalist (30,350 words) (Holby City) - this one is ALWAYS gonna be a fave because it was a fic I wrote over several months, sending copies of physical letters used in the fic to a member of the Berena fandom and at the time I got a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction out of doing it that way.

Snapshots: Four New Beginnings (12,960 words) (Holby City) - I had great fun giving Bernie different careers in the Arts and finding ways for her and Serena to meet.

The Name's Wolfe, Berenice Wolfe: 007, Licensed to Thrill (3,200 words) (Holby City) - and on the topic of AUs, Bernie Wolfe as a 007 Agent was just a fun way to combine an old fandom (Bond) with a new one.

The Long Road to Happiness (8,140 words) (Holby City) - oh look ANOTHER AU! Quelle surprise! 😜 This time Bernie and Serena were child actors together and Bernie fell in love, but Serena gave up acting, got married, had a child, and Bernie continued to carry a torch...

McKinnie and Wolfe: Monster Hunters (6,000 words) (Holby City) - written for a Holby Monster Mash and inspired by a collection of short stories by a favourite author, I just had great fun with this one.

Lascia Ch'io Pianga (Let Me Lament My Cruel Fate) (750 words) (James Bond) - the first time I’ve ever written a fic with an ambiguous ending. Funny thing is, some readers asked me to write a second chapter or sequel fic and I did try, but I just couldn’t make it work.

Sing In Me, Muse (1,362 words) (Star Trek: Discovery) - this was an AU fix-it for S1 of Disco and I love its simplicity and tenderness.

Beyond the Battle at the Binary Stars I (768 words) & Beyond the Battle at the Binary Stars II (1,379 words) (Star Trek: Discovery) - another AU fix-it for S1 of Disco in 2 parts that I found deeply satisfying to write.

Joy Is Not Made To Be A Crumb (8,500 words) (Doctor Who 2005) - a rarepair ship (Kate Stewart and Martha Jones) that I’ve always known will never attain any kind of popularity, but I don’t care - I just love writing them!

The Winter Queen, The Summer King, and the Spring Knight (9,536 words) (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) - this only has 30 Kudos, but I like it because it takes the mythology of AoS and combines it with fairytale and I think I did that rather neatly.

Cracky headcanon that has zero basis in reality and shouldn't be taken as meant to conflict with other people's headcanons: Adar is Maglor. Bc it would be angsty and a li'l fucked up.

Other headcanons (shared by many of my friends so I'm not the originator of all of them): Berek is the best of Elendil's sons, Isildur looks a bit like his mom, Valandil has two moms, Isildur is not a twink, Celeborn is stuck in a cave somewhere, Celeborn clearly must have very good seduction powers to have bagged Galadriel as a Sindarin princeling, Kemen and Eärien are doomed AF, etc etc

On that note, Celebrimbor may die if it goes where I think it'll go, but I could see them keeping Charles around for like another season or so to make people more attached so the canonical death hurts more.

I'm betting the 2 episodes of cut content intended for episodes 9 and 10 involved Adar and Sauron so assuming some of that is rolled to S2... Adar is gonna bite it. Sorry, people. But he's a side villain who has jack to do with the rings so I don't see him surviving, you know?

The Southlanders are yet again in danger and BY GOD I hope the little Aronwyn found family isn't killed off. Give them their garden, dammit.

Berek rescues Isildur and I thiiiink he'll be dragged off to the new Southlands settlement with the other Numenoreans instead of to Eregion. But yeah more horse girl Isildur adventures!

Anxiety brain is telling me Isildur can't get out of Mordor without running into either Adar or Sauron and I am NOT looking forward to it tbh. Gah. Angst.

Poor Míriel is forced into marriage. For a double whammy, add Kemen and Eärien also getting married with the latter leaving the beliefs of the Faithful :(

Presumably someone has to rescue little Celeborn who fell down a well.

Some more @justpked Beyond the Spider Lilies art inspired by memes. A potential peak into married life for Valar and my MC Seleni. While I'm sure Valar is thrilled he gets to wake up every morning to his beloved Sece, it's still a bit of an adjustment that her pet Chimera, Baby's Breath, also wants to cuddle and sleep next to her. Don't get him wrong. Baby is very nice to cuddle with what with the fluffy mane and all, but Sece's his wife now, and Valar wants his own private snuggle time with his wife dammit!

Tbh Ghost Aris probably finds his son in law's predicament hilarious. Especially since Aris himself is partially responsible for this sleeping arrangement. When he first brought Baby's Breath home he originally told Seleni repeatedly not to let the Chimera cub sleep in the bed with her. That of course didn't last long. I even wrote a short story about Aris and Seleni and here's a brief excerpt showing Aris inability to say no to 5 year old Sece:

"You want me to tuck you back in, after you snuck out of bed," his daughter nods in agreement.

"So I can read a bedtime story to your pet Chimera after I told you repeatedly not to let him sleep in the bed with you."

"But he's so little!" Aris just raises a brow at his daughter's pleading. "And he's scared of sleeping by himself. Papa, you always read to me whenever I'm too scared to sleep by myself. I just want him to feel safe too, because I love him so so soooo much." Aris cannot refute that argument, especially when his treasured daughter makes full use of her big green eyes and the little pout. So he's just going to accept this rare instance of defeat, pick up his daughter and carry her back to her room.

Okay! I actually realized something like this ages ago! I don't know if I ever said it in a post but I remember thinking how interesting it was that the characters kept getting scares and marks and just in general kept changing through out the series and thinking about how this series probably wouldn't work as well if it was a visual medium. Because visual mediums are often so married to character models. I also remember thinking something to the effect of "all the fears are gonna take a stab at Jon before this series is over at this point," and I guess I was right?

Oh for sure!!! I will warn you this gets,,,, very self indulgent but I'll take any chance I get to talk about it jkhbgljhvj - So Buzz sort of,,, always knew that Zurg was his dad - Mainly cause his nana wouldn't shut up about it, going on and on about how her daughter married That Guy Specifically - Buzz does know his mom and she is alive and well and the biggest girlboss to ever girlboss - She's a retired Space Ranger who runs a nightclub (not that anyone in Star Command believes him when he says that) and is always super super busy with it so she couldn't really be Buzz's primary caretaker so Nana stepped up to the job - I don't really have a name for her yet so let's just say it's Carmilla for now khgvkhgvfk - Carmilla's a native Morphian and moved with her mom to Capital Planet after a siege on Morph by non-Zurgian evil forces - She becomes a Space Ranger in undercover roles, trying to gain infromation and find all the Morphians who were forced into hiding but somewhere along the line runs into Zurg - Zurg, as it turns out, is also a Morphian, something he reveals only to her - She develops a soft spot for him but in a monsterfucker "god you're so annoying c'mere lemme kiss you" kind of way - They begin a secret relationship on the field and off and eventually Carmilla doesn't really want to be a ranger anymore so she kind of sort of fakes her own death and elopes with Zurg for a while there - Lo and behold a while later she has a son - But she can't really raise him to be evil, can she?? It doesn't matter if her husband is an emperor it's unjust and she wishes he had a better career than this :// - So she leaves to go back to Capital Planet and leads Buzz down a lawful path - Anyways that's enough backstory let's get to some fun things - Buzz and Zurg have a very Doofenshmirtz and Perry style of relationship where work is work and outside of it if they're not causing any harm to eacho ther they're family and just,,, vibe - Family cookouts on sunday are Mandatory - Buzz has Zurg's number and Zurg spams him with evil pro-zurg memes - This is after he's tried blocking Zurg sixteen times already - Buzz is a weird case in Star Command because he's been there practically since he was a child and nobody ever tries to conceptualize what his life is like outside of SC because of that - Which leads to absolutely nobody believing him when he says anything about his personal life cause it's so different from the Space Ranger Persona he has - It might also be why he does Shiv Katall so well - Zurg defo looks back on Shiv Katall after finding out it's Buzz and being like "god fucking dammit of course he can fool me with that act he's carmilla's son" and sulks for the next week - Warp genuinely had no idea - Like zero - Zurg is a blabbermouth but he's never going to admit that His Son beats him like every week - They do celebrate each other's birthdays and whether it involves a prank scheme or foil I cannot say - Buzz knows personally every minion Zurg has and just talks with them causally whenever Zurg kidnaps him - Team Lightyear only finds out about this during a mission where Zurg has them all hostage and he's just full on rambling while Buzz tries to get him to shut up like "Zurg... Zurg.. Zurg... D A D" and then it works and that's how they find out - Commander Nebula also has no clue and Buzz woudln't allow his team to tell him - Now the team has inside jokes about Buzz's home life - Mira: Damn Buzz and I thought I had issues with my dad and royalty Buzz: For the last time Mira just because he says he's an emperor- - Buzz's neighbors do know about it because The Emperor Literally Comes To His House Every Sunday but he never does anything evil so they're all like "yeah whatever idc he can stay" - Buzz learns Morphian dialect from Zurg cause he never had a chance to study it as a child - Carmilla does rub Zurg's losses in his face she thinks it's hilarious - and she's right
