On one hand, I want a final fantasy 6 remake, because the game is criminally underrated and the amount of fan content (which is all absolutely fantastic btw) is Not Enough for my neurodivergent, hyperfixating brain.

On the other hand, that would inevitably encourage more people to join the fandom, which would be great, except it seems these days the bigger a fandom gets the more toxic it becomes, and I really like what we have going on over here in our little corner. We all just love the game and its characters and nobody fights about who should and shouldn't date who or who you shouldn't like because they're ~problematique~. Nobody's trying to make one ship morally better than another, nobody's calling anyone names or threatening to doxx people who don't agree with their opinions. It's so peaceful and I love that for us. We're just vibing. Moisturized. Unbothered. In our lane. Flourishing.

#as someone who was in an extremely toxic and chaotic fandom and lowkey still traumatized #to the point where I'm afraid to mention which fandom it was/what my ship was #i have to say #i genuinely love it here #i was nervous at first sharing my ships and headcanons but everyone is so chill i was worried for nothing #thank you to everyone I've interacted with who has made this fandom a healing experience for me #i shudder to think about what some of the people i interacted with in a previous fandom would do with ff6 #probably would take edgar's flirting at face value and call him problematic for objectifying women #instead of considering the narrative and what we know about him and the way he actually treats women #my man drinks loving and respecting women juice he's not a creep #or that weird moment with relm that admittedly made me double take before i realized what he meant #theyd have a whole campaign against him lmfao #bc those people boil characters alive until they're just a formless pile of tropes and stereotypes #and seem to disregard all positive aspects of a character they don't like which is fine #but then they go and try to force other people to think like they do and ugh #theres a lot of silly moments in the game and aspects of these characters that make them well rounded and realistically flawed at times #and i fear that would get lost in the chaos if the floodgates opened after a remake #maybe im just jaded lmao #im jaded and i have anxiety so im always thinking about The Worst Case Scenario #the collective positive spirit of the dwellers in this fandom might actually foster a positive space if more people were to come in #ff6 #my post #i was gonna say maybe this is bc we're mostly adults #but that falls flat when i remember how some of the most toxic and immature people in some fandoms are grown ass adults #who bully each other and younger fans #and some of the most mature and cool people were actually younger #maybe ff6 fans are just built different lmao #also idk how old anyone else actually is there might be teenagers here i just don't think about it a lot

playchoices was such a strange hyperfixation. i was hyperfixated from when queen b? was coming out until when the kind of creepy sexy divorce lawyer one finished (I don't even know the name of that. that says something). i think i played on and off before that though because I came from high school story. if its any good still or has it devolved into the vip cashgrab i thought it would i have no idea.

but i will never forget the it lives anthology. that was incredible. i think I replayed it lives in the woods more times to count. the characters especially . the way we got a trans love interest in andy who was so so well written in my opinion, connor?? noah??? not to mention the main character yourself was also. such a great protagonist to follow. i bought all the premium choices for it. if they made it lives into a full franchise i'd become a collector. it lives beneath i never got into as much as I got into the first but I think that's due to my hyperfixation fizzling out by the time I read it

so so excited for Burrow’s End and so so frustrated with the biggest parasocial fans telling anyone who was discussing what other TTRPG systems could be used that they should never question the expert GMs, please just leave us to our (loving!) conversations!

there are always going to be dickheads who talk shit and rudely tag in the people/performers they’re referring to, but most of the time any fan critique or discussion I see of D20 comes out of being big fans of both the show and TTRPGs, is super respectful, and no one is tagging in anyone involved with the show. yeah some of us get tired of how often DnD is used in the recent games, because it isn’t always the best system for the story and there LOADS of other TTRPGs that would be cool to use!

for this season, most of the discussion went DnD???? Again???? > wait it looks like there’s a bunch of combat and monsters > probably not suited for Wanderhome/other suggested TTRPGs > what other animal TTRPGs could work > Aabria is an incredible GM and she’s worked with other systems before so her choice of DnD for this story is interesting, let’s see how this works out for the story > oooh this is what Aabria has said about using DnD, ok cool, can’t wait to be emotionally hurt im so tired of seeing a loud minority of people increasingly butting in on respectful conversations to say “they like DnD! they play however they want to! they’re the performers why do you question their choices?” Or “omg how dare you have the audacity to question them” or other bullshit like that. if all you want to do is never have conversations about TTRPGs or cast/GM choices etc. and never want to hear any respectful critique or discussion then I think your fandom experience is going to be poorer, but that’s your choice. you don’t have to start shit with other people just because you can’t stand that they’re lovingly but thoroughly discussing/critiquing this form of media and not putting the cast on pedestals. parasocial attachments to vaguely famous people aren’t new things but god they are getting worse and making the experience of fandom more awful

(ive been away from tumblr etc for the better part of a month, i'm not "back" quite yet, but I've spent some time "catching up" so to speak this evening and have a bit of a heavy heart.

some i already knew-- death threats, death threats and more death threats. hate mail.

my friends leaving fandoms they love. people i barely speak to burning out and needing a break from their fics and the constant/consistent stream of "update??????" and rudeness.

and i just need to say that there is an alarming pattern of bx i see, where the authors and creators that make themselves the most accessible and approachable and welcoming to their anons and their followers and readers are often the ones who get shit on first. yall take their openness as an excuse to be dicks. period. you take the people who are willing to have a convo with everyone, who make discords and mod fests, or give people chances and run them into the ground when they post something you dont agree with. the second they post something you don't agree with or write something you don't agree with. or update on a schedule that doesnt align with yours. or write a new ship that isnt part of the #brand. or whatever it might be. and you've made yourselves so comfortable with someone who is FRIENDLY online that you take it as permission to take a shit on the carpet in someone elses home.

and i understand thats a weird metaphor, but i don't much care. y'all forget these tumblrs, these works are still the creators. it is not your space. i repeat: it is not your space. and while they may be welcoming and happy to have you in it--it is still not yours.

and as someone who operates on the opposite end of the spectrum where i don't interact a lot with my readers or my anons or even my mutuals, and occasionally gets a nasty anon about this (cue the folks who @ me for not reccing their fics or doing their prompts; cue that one person who told me i was an asshole, which like, fair enough), i also want to say you can't have it both ways. you cannot be graciously invited into someone else home and then ask them to change the colors of the duvets to suit you. it is not your space.
