The Last Piece Left

This was supposed to be fluff the first time I had this idea. But then I decided that it could be fluffy with angst in the end. But then I got to actually write it and it became angst with even more angst in the end, so... hope you enjoy

I apologize in advance for any mistakes

Summary: For the first time since he left the Others, Virgil reunites the courage to talk to an old friend, but neither of them seem to know how to feel about each other. Or how to not make things worse.

Characters: Remus Sanders, Virgil Sanders

Warnings: swearing, mentions to death and dead bodies, angst (does that count as a warning?), fight, sex mention

“I told them my name” Remus looked away from the canvas in front of him, just to see who he once called a friend standing in the middle of his room, with an expression as abstract as the paint Creativity was trying to finish. So many feelings in such a small space it became impossible to understand.

“Ok? Good for you, I don’t give a fuck” replied, focusing his gazes on anything except Virgil’s eyes, doing his best to keep his emotions simple. We hate each other. He abandoned us. That should be enough. Virgil stayed in silence for what seemed like a lifetime. “What do you want, emo?”

“Thomas painted his hair” he started.

“Yeah, I noticed. Purple doesn’t really go well with green. Unless we’re talking about a wound. Or a dead body. Nevermind, purple and green are awesome together”

“Yeah, I really liked the hair, actually. I was thinking… I mean, you and Deceit have green and yellow. The core sides also have colors. I’m kinda tired of the black”

“Are you? I think it matches you, boring, quickly establishes that you’re the villain, having been washed in at least some months”

“I just want you to teach me how to sew,” Virgil replied, already starting to lose his temper. Calm down, he said to himself,he may be hard to deal with, but you are here to help, not make things worse.

“Roman knows how to sew, probably way better than me. Do you think I should add like, blood red or more like a wine red?” He pointed to the canvas, answering his own question before Virgil could do so “Yeah, blood red of course, the classic”

“I kinda wanted it to be a surprise. Also, I don’t think Princey’s style really matches mine” Remus wishes he was as honest to himself as he was with other people. He knew deep down it would hurt more to do that. He knew that getting a bite of what used to be their friendship would just make him more hungry for something that didn’t even exist anymore. He knew it would probably hurt both of them even more. But someone wanted his help for the first time in… well. Virgil wanted his help.

“Ok, get out of my room” said, finally turning to Anxiety, who tried to pretend those words didn’t send a wave of disappointment though his body.

“Of course... This was a mistake” mumbled, starting to sink out.

“No dude! Fuck, I mean, like, intrusive thoughts and anxiety is never a good mix, let’s go to your room or a neutral room” quickly explained.

“Oh” Virgil came back, seeming surprised “I can take your room just fine, dude, I’m used to it”

“It got way worse since the last time you were here, trust me, Gerard Gay” Virgil looked around. The view did look messier, if it was possible. The floor felt like skin, but with something off. He could hear whispers in the back of his consciousness, to which he could never identify a source. The smell was less like trash can and more like a trash can on fire where a corpse had been discarded some days ago. But he could take all that. He could take hours in that room, the same way Remus could take hours in his room.

“I don’t see how”

“As much as I would love to see Thomas hyperventilating because his anxiety can’t stop thinking about how people are going to invade his house and slowely murder him if he doesn’t check all the locks at least five times, I’m pretty sure you don’t want that headache. And it will be a hell of a headache as soon as the room reaches your mind”

“Fine, My room, then?”

“Yeah, I’m in need of some new spiderwebs anyway”

Virgil’s room didn’t change much since The Duke was there for the last time, except for some new Disney posters, probably from Roman and a drawing on the desk right beside anxiety’s bed. It was terribly colorful and childish, with all the three core sides and Virgil. Patton, then. Of course it was Patton. Anxiety immediately took the gift out of Creativity’s sight.

“I’m not gonna eat it or anything, y’know?”

“It’s personal”

“Of fucking course it is” He could see how Patton seemed better compared to Janus. But they didn’t need a stupid - and shitty, let’s be honest - card to prove how much they cared for, everything was just so fucking stupid and boring with the core sides, why would Virgil fucking chose to be with them?! What was wrong with him?! What did Remus do wrong?! “It’s really shitty, but I guess daddy has always been bad at everything he did”

“Could you keep it down? For at least thirty fucking minutes?” Virgil snapped, clenching his fists and looking at Remus with pure danger in his eyes.

“Do you have a… “He looked around, wishing he could just stop fucking talking for at least one damn second “A sketch. For how you want your hoodie to be?

“I do, actually” Virgil kept his eyes away from his old friend, the tension in the room so heavy it could be cut, grabbing one of the drawings on the same table Patton’s gift was and giving it to the duke. It was… a concept. Remus conjured a pen, turning the paper and using it’s other side to make a more clear image, giving it back to anxiety.

“How about this?” Virgil tried not to smile, but his eyes betrayed him by shining. It was perfect.

"It 's cool”

“Great” he then started to reunite all the materials. One of Virgil’s older hoodies, purple fabric, white and black threads and…

“Why a spinning wheel?”

"It 's cooler” replied, shrugging.

“If I touch the needle will I also sleep for one hundred years?”

“Who knows? Now sit your ass down, emo, this will take time”

“Ok, what do I do first?” said, sitting on his bed and waiting for instruction. Remus flinched until the realization struck him.

“Wait, you actually want me to teach you? Buddy, I’m the worst teacher ever and you know that” And also I’m a selfish motherfucker who knows very well that if you never learn it every time you need to fix it you will have to ask for my help.

“It can’t be that hard”

“If you actually want to do something decent, it will take at least some days. Do you want The Duke in your room for days? I wouldn’t mind it, we could even have some fun” He smiled maliciously. He was right. Virgil wouldn’t want any of the core sides to know he still talked to Remus. Especially not Roman.

“Fine. How long will it take for you to do it?”

“One hour” He could do it in a couple seconds, actually, but sshhh.

“Ok” Virgil looked down, seeming almost… embarrassed. Creativity grabbed all the materials, conjured a bench, sat down and started to work. He tried to stay in silence, but it was almost painful to do so

“How are the core sides doing? Anything interesting, if that’s possible?”

“Are you trying to do small talk?” Virgil almost smiled. The only one of the Others good with that was Deceit and they all knew that.

“I’m trying to keep it down like you said to protect your now light side ears or whatever” Virgil chucked, rolling his eyes.

“What was that painting about?”

“Oh… I was trying to do an abstract representation of the emotions decay and rottenness bring”

“Sounds like you. How was it going?”

“Like shit. Not literally, even though that’s a good idea, did you know that when we die our whole body, like, relax, including our stomach muscles and all? And yeah, we shit ourselves, so go to the bathroom before you die, I guess” Virgil flinched with that unwanted information.

“I feel like you told me that before”

“I probably did, it’s pretty basic. I don’t know what the fuck is happening, I haven’t being able to paint anything good”

“I thought it was pretty nice” For Remus’ standards.

“Sure you did. But really, how are those dorks? Did someone already explained to Daddy what sex it or nobody had the courage yet?”

“That’s what you’re concerned about?”

“Of course!”

“Nobody did, obviously, but I’m considering, I like Patton, but if he refers to adulthood as adultery one more time I’ll lose it” Remus snorted.

“He does what?”

“Long story, dude”

“Holy fuck” He laughed “He’s definitely doing that on purpose”

“What would he win by doing that?” A couple of answers came to Remus’ mind but he was sure VIrgil would hate all of them. Still, he had to choose one, that how things work “Maybe he likes fucking with you guys”

“Not everybody finds it funny to manipulate the people around them like Deceit” Oh, here we go again.

“Patton and Janus are not that different”

“Name one thing they have in common” fortunately for Remus, the first answer that came to his mind was not that bad.

“Well, if you’re right, they both don’t know where babies come from” Virgil seemed divided between keeping arguing and smiling. He went with the second option. You can do it, Virge. You can not screw everything.

“I guess so. But Patton is definitely better with hugs”

“Which one of the light sides would you fuck if you had to chose?”

“Where did that come from?!” Remus shrugged.

“Just curious”.

“I won’t fucking answer that!” exclaimed, his face starting to get red.

“For me it would be Logan. Or maybe you. Do you count as a Light side already?” Anyway, Logan must be amazing. It’s almost like fucking a teacher and I always wanted to know how it feels like” Virgil was about to order him to shut up, but he knew Remus enough to know it would only make things worse, so he went with a more effective technique.

“How is Deceit doing?” Remus raised his eyebrows, the question surprising enough to stop his line of thought.

“Fine? Why do you care?”

“I mean… are you guys good?”

“As always”

“Haven’t he been… hurting you or anything like that?”

“Janus never hurted me, dude, what the fuck?”

“Except that he did. Except that he does it everyday. You just don’t want to admit it” Remus looked into his eyes, frowning.

“Emo, what is this all about?”

“What do you mean?” Based on how he focused his gaze on the floor, Remus raised his eyebrows even more.

“This is not just about the fucking hoodie, is it?” Virgil stayed in a seeming never ending silence.

“They accepted me, Remus.You guys said it was impossible for the core sides to accept us, but here I am. They could accept you too” Oh, so that’s what this is about. Remus went to one of his rare silences, which were always scarier than his loudest noises.

“We already talked about this, emo”

“But that was before! When we thought they all hated us! But they don’t! Logan is welcoming and Roman is trying and Patton… Patton is willing to receive us with his arms open”

“No, he’s fucking not. Patton hates me so fucking much I’m pretty sure he would get rid of me the second he had the fucking chance and would still convince himself it was the right thing to do” He got up without realizing, putting all his efforts into not crying like a pathetic child.

“I think you’re mistaken him for Deceit” Virgil also got on his feet.

“Janus, his name is fucking Janus, why can’t you just call him for his fucking name?! He yelled.

“He’s a liar, Remus! He doesn’t care about you or any of us! He just wants to… Follow his plans or whatever”

“Oh, do you think Patton cares about you?!”

“Actually yes, I know he fucking does”

“Well, yeah, maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t, but if I get there? Not only will he get scared and kick me out, he will also be angry at you for bringing the freak here into his perfect little world of sunshine and rainbows, so thank you so much, but Janus at least was there for me when I needed it, unlike those dicks or you!” Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.

“I should have known this was a mistake” Virgil said, letting his shoulders drop with the height of defeat.

“Yeah it was. Here is your fucking hoodie” He finished it with a snap of his fingers at threw it at Virgil, sinking out right after. “Have fun with your new friends, Virgil”

Slowly, anxiety grabbed his new costume. It was amazing, Comfortable, spooky, creative. And it was so… detailed and clearly done carefully, It was… He started crying.Ugly crying, with the tears scratching his throat to came with violent sobs, their warm burning as they fell down his face, wetting his own clothes and the new one in his hands, the pain in his chest seeming like a monster was tearing apart his whole soul, trying to destroy his heart, it hurted more than anything that he ever felt.

He knew, deep down, it was impossible to have a real famILY like that. But he also knew he was a hypocrite and it was easier to pretend things were simpler. It was easier to pretend he didn’t need Remus. Or Janus, by that extent. It was easier to pretend they weren’t family. But not easy enough for him to not hold on to all there was left from what they once called a friendship.

He held the hoodie tighter.

Survival (Loki x Reader)

Shlap!

Snow dust falls from the target area - Loki's back.

After all, he said you needed to work on your throwing aim. What better way to practice than with an endless supply of harmless snowballs?

Harmlessness, you soon realized, depends on the person throwing the snowball. The velocity can vary depending on a person's strength and accuracy as well as the density of the -

SMACK!

- snow.

You wiped off the bitter cold dust from your face, checking for blood at the same time, whilst struggling not to laugh out loud and possibly cause an avalanche. Damn, he's a good aim. Gravity wasn't even on his side, as you stood a good fifty feet above him on a hill.

Your hill was tiny compared to the black, shadowy mountains with white tips in the distance. They contrasted beautifully against the pale blue sky, a color scheme surely created by a celestial artist.

Nature was the only place left that housed art like this.

The snow had let up that morning. The first time since arriving to the little abandoned cabin that the visibility had improved enough to go outside. You and Loki were dangerously low on food at the worst time of year, leaving no choice but to trudge through roughly 18 inches of snow to find more. Your chances were slim, but possible.

It had to be possible.

Luckily the snowball firing hadn't dampened your clothes. Loki's jacket - that he'd miraculously managed to keep up with throughout this mess - was holding up like brand new.

You'd only had one winter coat, the one you're wearing now, which he'd refused to the death to take or even share. One day in the previous summer while scavenging what used to've been an old folks' home, you found various medicines, and he found himself a good quality coat for the winter. Dark blue windbreaker material with thermal lining, a hood, a zipper, and large black buttons all the way up. One button was violently ripped off, but that didn't bother him a bit.

Your matching water-resistant snow pants were coming in great handy as well. Thin but effective.

You and Loki both had cut your hair short. Safer, easier to care for. Normally you thought it looked pretty rough, but you reconsider after seeing how the black fringe frames his features against the bleak, white canvas. The little snowflakes sprinkled throughout it. The pinkness of his skin. Loki might as well have been a piece of art himself, but you'd never tell him that.

You finger-whistle to him as an acknowledgement of his superior throwing skills. He has never been able to do that; no matter how hard he tries, nothing but pathetic raspberries come out.

He finds your whistling ability both annoying and incredibly sexy.

As he crouches to gather another snowball, desperately, you remember something basic. You fall to your knees, hold your breath, and roll down the hill before he can strike again.

When you land perfectly at his feet - in a fit of laughter - Loki is at a loss for words. "Can't," you giggle, "can't hit a moving target!"

"You've paid attention, I see," he says in a balanced voice although his face betrays him. He's nearly laughing himself.

Getting up from the snow is much harder than falling and rolling into it, even with the help of Loki's extended arm. You're dizzy, you're giggly, you're happy. You fall into Loki and nearly knock him over on twinkle toes.

His emotions confuse him, especially in these dire straits the realms are in, so he chooses to ignore them as much as possible. But in times like this, with you being so infectiously exuberant and being in his arms, you make that very hard.

He feigns indifference while his heart is soaring.

"Whew! I have always wanted to do that!" The high from spinning so much is amazing.

"You're such a child."

"I may be a child, but you're a - "

"Shh!" Loki's withdraws his hands as his attention quickly diverts over your shoulder.

You draw your pistol. He draws his crossbow.

He begins walking very slowly to make as little noise as is possible with the crunching of snow. You begin to follow.

A hand juts out, his palm pressing your stomach. A silent way of saying "Stay back."

You obey, but peek around his tall frame. A thin tree sits alone, its few limbs weighted down with snow. Loki inched closer to the base of the tree with his crossbow ready to fire on a dime. Dead silence. Another step closer. You desperately try to see what he sees.

Shadows and broken limbs. Snow. You see a bit of red. You step to the side of Loki, holding a breath in your chest. You see a pool of red.

He goes painfully closer to inspect the scene while you scan his six o'clock. Nothing but perfectly undisturbed hills of snow for miles and miles.

"Dinner."

You cut your head toward him. "Huh?"

He's crouched in front of the tree's base. He looks up at you, wide eyed, a few teeth peeking from dark red lips in a small smile.

He stands and raises a massive three foot long gray rabbit by its ears. "Dinner, my dear."

You stared at the monstrously sized rabbit hanging from Loki's hand for a good minute. Its wound was through the side of the head; a kill shot.

Not your kill.

"We didn't hunt that, Loki! We can't steal it!" You whisper-yelled.

"I'm not stealing it," he says calmly, "I found it. Perhaps another animal caused his demise."

"Loki, no."

"What? Are you saying that this doesn't look appetizing to you at all? At your rate, we stole the cabin as well." He's stepping out from beneath the small tree. A blood stain lays atop snow in the shadows.

"That's different. Someone else killed this. Recently! The blood's still flowing! He hasn't been out here long!"

"I didn't hear any gunfire. Did you?"

It had been dead silent in these mountains ever since you arrived. "Well, no. Could've been a stab wound or an arrow," you paused, trying to formulate a better explanation. Nothing came. Loki was already trekking back toward the cabin; the dead, slowly bleeding gray rabbit in hand. His gloves are going to need washing.

He wasn't really giving you a choice. When it came down to it, you were both really hungry. "Wait a minute."

"Yes?" He stopped and turned halfway toward you, leg cocked out to balance himself.

You swallowed. "Are we just gonna ignore the fact that that thing is five times bigger than normal?"

Loki lifted and twirled the rabbit a bit to examine it. It hung limply from his fist, eyes open, jaw dropped, big front teeth bloodied.

"Probably just a large breed."

"Something isn't right, Loki. It doesn't look right." You looked at it further, "Its eyes look blind. And its coat doesn't look healthy."

"Always the overthinker," Loki smirked. "Have you not seen the people we've encountered? They make this look like a pet store rabbit. Everyone is going to have some degree of mange about them, especially the animals." He furrows his brow, "I mean, darling, have you seen a mirror as of late?"

That earned him a nice punch to the ribs.

Doubled over, faking most of the pain, he croaked, "My brittle bones. Cruel, cruel woman."

You shared a laugh. A sharp cutting gust of wind encouraged you to finally give in to his persuasion, so you started again to the cabin.

It wasn't far away, you two had only ventured maybe fifty yards out. If the owners were still alive, you would likely still be trespassing. Now, none of that mattered. No more property line disputes, no fences, no parcels of land. No distinction. Just survival. Just free, open Earth - if you can find some without monsters.

Fifty yards seemed like a hell of a lot more when walking in shin-deep snow all the way. Loki seemed to have no problems, what with his spider length legs and genetic strength and acclamation to extreme temperatures. But he had to be hungry.

No matter what he says about his superior Asgardian metabolism, you knew he hadn't eaten in over a week. You could see the effects taking their slow but sure toll on his body; his already thin build became much more skeletal and gaunt, elbows and hip bones sticking out more than they should. He'd been sleeping long hours over the last couple nights even though you hadn't done much running or hiding. You didn't know a lot of the specific biology of Asgardians or Jötuns, but common sense says it all.

Any food you came across - be it sparse as it was - Loki would give to you, claiming that your weak body needed to replenish its energy. That he didn't need more sustainance just yet. The last time this happened was four days ago when you began nearing the end of your stock; he assured you with a charming glint in his eye that he was fine and that you were the one growing weak.

Such a liar.

The same concern for you had reappeared in him that morning, causing you to wander out scavenging for the first time since arriving to this new place. And anyone else would be ecstatic about finding game out here, much less not even having to use your own ammo to kill it. Being who you are, something still didn't sit right.

The rabbit resembled more of a small dog in size. You couldn't stop staring at it as Loki adjusted his grip from carrying it by the ears to holding it by a front leg. A much too long leg.

"How much do you think that thing weighs anyway?"

"Oh, he's not heavy."

"It sure looks heavy."

"Why don't you have a go?" he gestured for you to hold it.

Your fists curled against your chest. "I don't want to."

"What?" he feigned shock, "The ever so tough monster killing machine that you've become is afraid of touching a dead bunny? Come on, then."

"No, I really don't - "

The rabbit was thrown upon yout chest. Out of normal habit, your arms tried to catch the thing that was thrown at them; it took a couple seconds for your eyes to catch up to the situation at hand: that fucking bloody rabbit. You ropped it to the snowy ground with a lifeless flop.

"Just a few pounds, wouldn't you say?" said Loki, barely trying to hide his mischievous grin.

"A few pounds hell! That thing weighs at least twenty pounds!" You said, brushing off scraggly gray hairs from your jacket. "Pick it up, asshole."

He bent to gently grab it off the snow, clear green eyes looking up at you, "Now now, no name calling."

"No throwing dead shit at me."

He laughed a real laugh. "Fair enough."

You eventually made it back to the wooden door of the log cabin, damn fucking rabbit in hand. You and Loki were torn on whether to leave it outside for sanitary reasons, or to bring it inside to avoid drawing unwanted attention with the smell of fresh kill. You naturally vouched to leave it outside.

Loki compromised, that he would skin and clean the rabbit inside, but cook it outside. You didn't like every aspect of that.

"There's no telling what it's been into out here. I don't really want to bring whatever that may be - Loki." Your eyes cut to the rabbit in his hand.

"Loki!"

The presumed dead animal moved. Its mouth opened wider. Its eyes grew whiter.

Loki dropped the animal like a hot frying pan. It started snarling, unnatural sharp teeth baring wildly. Squirming on its back, helplessly injured, but very much alive. Your pistols were pointed.

"What?" breathed Loki.

"It's fucking infected."

"How? Animals cannot be infected with human disease," he said in more of a question than a statement.

"Clearly they can! I told you something wasn't right!" Loki stepped toward the screeching creature that was maybe at one time a rabbit.

"Back up!" It lunged for his ankle. "What the fuck are you doing? Shoot it!"

For some reason you both seemed to be paralyzed with something along the lines of fear. Both of your guns were drawn, pointed, fingers on the triggers, but couldn't pull it.

It lunged for you next.

A scream.

Loki shot twice. He hit the spine. But it didn't die. It only flinched in pain.

You shot it directly between its nasty evil eyes.

It fell over. No more screeching or snarling. Its face was frozen in time. More blood, now black rather than red, seeped from the wound.

You took a single step closer to examine the animal once more. Tired of taking chances. You stomped its head with the heel of your boot.

Eight times.

"It's gone, dear! It's gone!" Loki's desperate voice and hands pull you from your rage. You hadn't felt the trails of hot tears down your cheeks until he held your face against his chest. "It's gone. It's gone. It's alright," he repeated into your ear.

The sounds of his coos, your ugly, raw sobs, and the ruthless howl of winter wind consumed everything. You knew something was wrong, you knew it. But frankly, you're too weak now to argue that point.

You still don't have enough food.

Artist Spotlight: Charlotte Schembri

Get to know one of our UT Austin artists from the January 2020 Collection on ArtStartArt.

To get us started, share more about yourself and your artwork.

My name is Charlotte Schembri, I'm 21 years old, I was born and raised in Toronto and now I currently live and create art in Austin. I'm a young artist earning my degree in studio art at the University of Texas at Austin. Since studying at the University of Texas, I've been developing my skills in charcoal drawings and photography. I've been developing my charcoal techniques since my sophomore year in high school after I was assigned an observational drawing in charcoal. I had never worked in charcoal before but learned to love the medium and perfect my craft of charcoal throughout the years. While expanding my skill and knowledge in charcoal, I wanted to explore different ways to use charcoal by adding color and linear designs to my drawings. By using watercolor as a wash or base for her figures, I can successfully add color and additional texture to my charcoal drawings. Recently, I've taken an interest in photography after taking a beginning photography course at UT. I loved the way black and white film created a nostalgic look in my photographs. I also feel in love with the saturated colors that digital cameras capture.

Tell us about your first experience creating.

I've been making art since day one and have always been taking art classes at school. I was always either painting, drawing, or making fun of arts and crafts. I never had an opportunity to challenge myself until my friend asked me to draw her someone famous. I wasn’t comfortable with drawing this famous person because I wasn’t comfortable with drawing people, especially from my last experience with portraits. But I really wanted to give my friend a handmade gift. Looking at the picture that she gave me as a reference, I was trying to figure out how I could make it look as realistic as possible and how I could properly draw all of the proportions of the face. That’s when I remembered the technique that I learned in Mrs. Bell’s class, the gridding method. Even though I was frustrated using this technique, I decided to give it a second chance. Instead of using paint, I used Prisma color pencils. I used this medium because it would give me that smooth look that I’ve wanted to achieve before. After working on this drawing for hours, it turned out exactly the way I wanted it to look like and more! Seeing the finished product made me realize that I had a talent for drawing people. My friend loved the drawing so much that she framed it and put it in her room (where it still is today). Looking back at this moment, drawing this picture for my friend made me realize that if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be drawing portraits of people in charcoal today.

What has been your favorite part of art school so far?

My favorite part about art school is the community and the freedom I've created. I'm making art with some of the most talented students, and I can always ask them questions and their opinions about my artwork. I'm always learning from them, and they are the ones who help make my work even better. Their opinions have been valuable to me, and I can't thank them enough. I've also become very close friends with some of my classmates, and I know that I'll be friends with them for a long time. My professors have also provided me with amazing feedback about my work during my critiques, and because of that, I've been able to grow as an artist.

What are you currently exploring in your work?

I've currently been exploring how drawing and photography intertwine and complement each other in a collective series. Both my drawings and photographs are narrative pieces that are fragmented, reflective, and geometric. My drawings and photographs are a blend of portraits and landscape images that use mirrors as an abstract element in a natural landscape. What also makes the drawings and photographs abstract is how the mirrors create repetition, reflection, textures, and brighter colors. Most of my drawings and photographs are abstract portraits of young women, with most of their bodies and faces cut off by the mirrors. I wanted to use the mirrors as a way to take away from their identity and highlight certain parts of their bodies, questioning how viewers look at women in drawings and photographs and how mirrors can create an illusion.

What excites you about ArtStartArt?

I found out about ArtStartArt when they came to give a talk at the University of Texas at Austin. I was interested in how they were allowing college students to sell their work online. I was always making commission pieces for clients and never thought about selling my work that I had made in my classes. I'm excited to see if buyers will like and buy my work! It's also fantastic to see other students work online as well, and I hope to establish myself in the art community!

If you had to choose another major besides art, what would it be, and why?

If I had to choose another major besides art, it would be interior design. I am obsessed with watching interior design shows on HGTV, and what I love about it most is seeing the before and after photos, very satisfying! Interior design has a lot of artistic influence, so it would be a perfect fit for someone creative, like me! I also love seeing the reactions of the designers' clients, and that's what makes all the design decisions worth it! Giving my art to others and seeing their reactions is similar to what I see on the TV shows.

What’s your favorite spot on campus and what do you like to do there?

My favorite spot on campus is the Fine Arts Library. They recently renovated it, so everything is updated and cozy. I get to the library super early in the morning and find a booth to sit at and start working. Since I work part-time remotely, the library offers the perfect working space for me, where I can be productive and close to my classes. Some days, my friends run into me at the library, and they sit down with me. It's great to be able to talk with them because it gives me a chance to be social as well.

What plans do you have for the future of your art?

Ideally, it would be amazing to have my works featured in galleries for others to see and to enjoy. I also hope to be making artwork my entire life, either it being commission pieces for clients or work that will be in galleries. If that doesn't work out as a full-time job, then I'll always be making artwork in my free time since I like to be creative. I also want to use my experience as a marketing coordinator and use those skills in the art industry by working for artist companies and galleries who are always innovating and leading in the art industry.

On his skincare routine for dry skin and his go-to shops for the best in men’s fashion.

“My name is Marvin Contreras (@marvizzzzle), I'm 19 years old and I live in Farmington, New Mexico. I graduated from high school this past year and I'm currently a freshman at the community college in Farmington. After finishing a semester or two here I will transfer to a 4 year University to get a degree in Journalism/Communications, and after that I plan on transferring to a fashion tech university to study fashion design or fabric styling. I am currently working a part time job as a host at Red Lobster (I know, very glamorous ). I love to go thrift shopping, I love blogging about fashion, I LOVE to listen to music, I love online shopping as well, I like to eat fast food (super bad habit), I enjoy watching Netflix very much, and I also love to read fashion magazines!

It took me a long time to fully understand the importance of a consistent skincare routine, so when I started I was a little lost but quickly found products that I adored. I guess I'll start with my nighttime routine because it's the more rigorous of my two. First, I cleanse my skin using my favorite cleanser, Neutrogena Naturals Pore Clarifying Cleanser, and my Foreo mini Luna face cleansing brush. When I first found the cleanser I was skeptical because I'd heard mixed reviews about Neutrogena, but the naturals brand is truly a gem. I love how gentle and refreshing the cleanser is while still being effective. I love the mini Luna because it allows me to really get deep into my pores and the vibrating feature feels so cool but also gives a great tightness to your skin when you're done. Next, I apply some type of acne spot treatment. I say "some type" because I'm currently in the process of choosing a permanent product. I've tried three so far and they are, Neutrogena Naturals' Acne Spot Treatment, Murad's Rapid Acne Spot Treatment, and Neutrogena's On the Spot Acne treatment. My skin is very dry and very acne prone due to stress and a terrible habit of touching my face, so that's why an acne treatment is crucial in my routine. So far I've really fell in love with Murad's Acne Treatment because it's the one that's given me the best and fastest results! It's definitely the most pricy of the three, but I believe that investing in good skincare is completely ok! So after the acne treatment I will put on my Caudalie Radiance Serum which I recently got as a birthday gift from Sephora, and I ended up loving it! I think it smells amazing and gives my face a nice glow after use. Then, once I've applied my serum & treatments I moisturize which is uber crucial for any type of skin! I use Ponds Dry Skin Moisturizer and it's most definitely my lifeline! I love how a little goes a long way and also how much it's helped my skin! When I've finished all of this I like to do a spritz of either my Mario Badescu Rose Spray or LUSH's Eau Roma Water. Both products give you a refreshing feeling and I think any kind of face spray is honestly just a good finishing point to a solid skincare routine! Side note: a big pet peeve/necessity of mine when washing my face is always having a clean towel...ALWAYS!

For my morning routine, it's definitely a much simpler and to the point process. I must say, I'm not the best at washing my face everyday but I try my hardest! So first I cleanse again using the Neutrogena Naturals Pore Clarifying Cleanser. Then I moisturize using the same Pond's moisturizer and that's it for the morning! I'm usually in a rush so I try to keep it as quick as possible. In terms of skincare I'd say my holy grail items are: Mario Badescu Facial Rose Spray and the Kate Somerville's Eradi-Kate mask (it's to die for!)

For my "beauty" or make up routine, I don't go crazy at all. I like to give my brows a little bit of life so I usually begin by tweezing and perfecting any spots that need to be polished. Then I brush them out with a spooly brush and finish off by using Benefit's Gimme Brow gel in clear. I love the natural yet polished look it gives my brows, which is why it became my go to! I would really love to try Glossier's Boy brow in clear, and honestly I think I'm going to order it this week. Another thing that I'm passionate about is my lips. I have a pretty big set of lips so I like to keep them healthy and smooth! My lifeline is Vaseline's Cocoa Butter lip balm, it's honestly the best thing to ever happen to my lips! I NEVER leave the house without it.

In terms of fashion, this is where I have the most fun. My personal style is (I'd like to think) eclectic, adaptive, yet classic. Fashion is one of the most important things in my life and I try my hardest to make that present in my outfits. You can always tell how I'm feeling by my outfit. Sometimes I'll be feeling fierce and throw on a sexy cropped top and high waisted denim and other days I feel lazy and just wear a t shirt and Levi's. One thing you need to know about my personal style is that it's all about denim for me. I am an all out denim fanatic! Everything about denim makes it my "right hand piece" if you will. I love the endless amounts of options there is with denim. If I had to choose a Top 5 list of my fashion icons (bc there are way too many to name any less than 5) they would be, 1. Beyoncé: she's my inspiration for everything, but fashion would be a big one because I've always admired her sense of style. It's very fun with lots of quirky twists, yet she manages to look SO chic! 2. Bella Hadid: the minute she burst onto the scene, I was hooked. In the world of models, it wasn't very common to find someone badass yet glamorous, until Bella came along. I absolutely love the way that Bella can add an effortlessly chic feel to any and all of her outfits. I love her versatility and the way she can wear one thing one day, then something completely different and new the next. 3. Solange Knowles: like her big sister, Solange has such a fun and whimsical sense of style, but can still end up on Vogue's best dressed list! I draw so much inspiration from her Insta feed alone, but when I see her outfits anywhere I feel a sense of joy. Anybody that can pull off monochromatic outfits of all colors and proportions like her , is someone I want to be like! 4. Camille Cherrierre: if you don't know who Camille is, you're missing out on worlds of inspiration. She is a British blogger who I've followed for quite some time now, yet I still haven’t gotten tired of her amazing and ingenious outfits. She brings a certain effortless and fresh element to the fashion world and that's what I love about her! 5. Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen: it shouldn't be any surprise that these two princesses are on my list. I have loved and adored everything about these two since I was a child watching "Full House." But it wasn't until they really grew up and began to make a name for themselves in the fashion world that I started to draw inspiration from them. Their laid back yet uber chic senses of style have inspired countless outfits of mine, and it will continue like that. There's something about their minimalistic vibe that almost makes me want to own just two pieces of clothing (but not really, lol).

When I shop, I'm almost never looking for anything in particular. I literally just shop to shop. And the same goes for the places I shop at. I never have a specific store in mind, I simply just search up whatever store comes to mind and hope for the best. Although that doesn't mean I don't have some favorite stores! Some of my favorites are H&M (I love their message and mission, but also the prices & pieces are spot on), ZARA (also love their pieces and prices, good for designer dupes), Urban Outfitters (always been a fan of their vibe and I looooove the variety of brands and pieces they have), Mango (they have a unique variety of clothes at great prices), Grailed (it's an amazing site for great designer pieces that are being resold at much lower prices), and lastly I get basically all my denim from Thrift Stores. I love the experience of thrifting and I love that you find something new every time! Thrifted denim is honestly such a beautiful thing because the jeans have so much life when I find them, and I love adding my own story to them. Fashion. What a beautiful and alluring thing it is. I love the way that a good outfit can make me feel. I love that fashion is able to be shifted and manipulated to fit an individual's personal style. Fashion is my life and forever will be.

If I had to choose 5 items that are my absolute favorite, I'd say (in order) they'd be:

My vintage Levis denim jacket, I got it for $2 at a yard sale and I've been infatuated ever since.

Every single pair of Levi's 501's that I own. I have about 8 pairs of 501's and I'm in love with each and every one of them. The fit is my favorite and all of them are vintage so they have the amazing vintage fit that is everywhere right now.

My Hanes x Karla Welch white tee is my absolute favorite of my expansive white tee collection. It's crazy soft and clearly made of the finest of materials and it was only $30!! How can you say no to that??

My H&M white leather sneakers are my go-to shoe. When I got them I knew that I'd get the most use out of these. They're the perfect staple shoe and I love how they easily go with any outfit!

My ASOS leather pants are my lifeline during the cold months. I'm obsessed with how they can make any look feel sleek. Eventually I'd like to invest in a much more high quality and durable pair, but these were under $40 and they certainly do the trick!

All of these pieces are significant to me because they define my signature style. They're not only my favorite because of how they look, but how they make me feel. When I'm wearing any of them I feel like I'm at my best.”

so something (refer to the song he said suits myday) happened with jae recently and ive seen fans trying to defend him by @ing him and saying that they love him which is fine - great even! but what i dont approve is how everyone’s basically forgotten about the whole matter because they had concerts so instead of @-ing him and asking him to explain himself, they tell him what a great concert it was which is also great bc their concerts are honestly amazing. basically my pet peeve is when ppl dismiss the problematic action of some people just bc they like them.

another thing is that there were some fans who started guilting others for wanting to drop day6 completely because of what jae did and in my opinion i think it is totally cool to want to drop a group if they did smth bad like??? its ur life???? u can choose who you want to like. what is not cool is pulling out all the good things the person has ever done in their entire life and try to remind others about the positive sides of the person. yes. they’re an encouraging person, etc. but that does not cancel out the bad things they’ve done until they explain/apologise. what is infuriating is just the manner some people took it?? they literally went ahead and tweeted shit like “would your parents drop you if you did smth wrong?” and “you’re seriously gonna drop someone whos been nothing been nice because of one incident?” yes. people will and you dont have any fucking right to stop them? so dont go pulling out receipts.

another thing. its also okay to want to stan the whole group even if someone has done smth problematic. like? to me youre cool if youre able to see and acknowledge the bad shit someone has done and still stand by their side while educating them at the same time its nice to have faith in your idols. however, i wont say much when your idols dont respond and/or respond in a way that shows absolutely no remorse. its cool if you want to support them too, despite that.

tldr; dont fucking excuse someone’s behaviour/action just because youre so far up their fucking ass. dont pull out shit from before either, be it good or bad. and lastly, its okay to want to drop/continue supporting them, its your life.

i just wanted to talk about this tbh,, it was nice to see a few mydays trying to urge jae to explain the whole situation but seeing as he still hasnt and couldve it really irks me :-/

they’re super nice, kind and just all of the positive adjectives out there in the dictionary ...... they’ve helped me multiple times and they’re always there 2 lend me a listening ear (or in our case, eye lmao) idk??? im just super comfortable around them always and im honestly so thankful we became mutuals (and subsequently friends) last year!!!! i cant say a lot bc ill just get v repetitive but overall they’re an awesome friend and im glad we still communicate daily via twitter and sometimes our skype sessions even if they’re kinda awkward bc i never know when 2 talk bc im scared ill speak and theyll say smth and itll turn into a MESS which actually happened lmao
