Conceptually mushrooms are amazing and I'd love nothing more to eat them all the time but unfortunately I can't stand their texture, taste, or smell.

Deercember Day Twenty-Seven: Columbian Black-tailed Deer | Will-o'-wisp
The Columbian black-tailed deer or blacktail (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus) is found in western North America, from Northern California into the Pacific Northwest of the United States and coastal British Columbia in Canada. East of the Cascade and Sierra Nevada Ranges in Oregon and California, black-tailed deer are replaced by other mule deer which have a different tail pattern. They have sometimes been treated as a species, but virtually all recent authorities maintain they are subspecies of the mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus). Strictly speaking, the black-tailed deer group consists of two subspecies, as it also includes Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis (the Sitka deer). Despite this, the mtDNA of the white-tailed deer and mule deer are similar, but differ from that of the black-tailed deer. This may be the result of introgression, although hybrids between the mule deer and white-tailed deer are rare in the wild (apparently more common in West Texas), and the hybrid survival rate is low even in captivity. These two subspecies thrive on the edge of the forest, as the dark forest lacks the underbrush and grasslands the deer prefer as food, and completely open areas lack the hiding spots and cover they prefer for harsh weather. One of the plants that black-tailed deer browse is western poison oak, despite its irritant content. During the winter and early spring, they feed on Douglas fir, western red cedar, red huckleberry, salal, deer fern, and lichens growing on trees. Late spring to fall, they consume grasses, blackberries, apples, fireweed, pearly everlasting, forbs, salmonberry, salal, and maple. More information here.

2023 reads // twitter thread
The Battle Drum
sequel to The Final Strife, a queer Ghanian/Arabian high fantasy world where people are divided by blood colour
the nightly hurricanes are getting more deadly, and Sylah travels to unknown lands to discover the truth and find help
meanwhile Anoor is trying to manage her new political position while framed for a murder she didn’t commit
#The Battle Drum#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#okay I do feel similarly about this as I did the first one...really love a lot of what’s going on I just feel like some of the structure/plo#plot focus could b better#like the first one fell back on the generic competition framework which I felt was meh....this one does that a bit with murder mystery#it had a cool  in-universe summary of book 1#something about the politics/past/worldbuiling feels…I wanted some more connection or complexity or something?#or maybe i just expect more from adult fantasy#anoor's naivety got a little frustrating at time#like the murderer was pretty obvious#I love: cool new cities! glass city! MUSHROOM CITY#when sylah sees a camel and describes it in the most 'weird unknown fantasy creature' kind of way#I still find zines weirdly anachronistic.......when magazines don't exist in the world...#but I can give that a pass I guess#there's also an aroace side character (has some POV) who I have......mixed feelings about?#an interesting complex character but also. is SA'd for years before she finally decides t kill her husband#then becomes an antagonistic cult leader#I don't think that's INHERENTLY a bad thing; but idk; why was that a choice? maybe she'll be redeemed (for lack of a better word) next book#anyway all of these critiques are very much like. this has the potential to be in my favourite kind of books ever and doesn't QUITE reach my#expectations..........so like it is very good. I just ahhhhh want slightly more/different things#oh also jond and kitten was good. I still hate him for being the perpertrator of my Least Favourite Trope but. he has a baby kitten....#wait i should also mention the plot twist of who the person is is pretty good#didn't figure that one out#but going back through highlight notes i was like oh...there was clues...

as a sort of tangentially related addendum to the previous reblog: i want to point out that your tastebuds change over time and you might find that a vegetable (or any food, really) tastes very different to you as you get older - and this is especially true after you hit your early 20s. i personally have started liking multiple foods i found disgusting as a kid! it’s always worth revisiting foods from time to time to see if your tastes have changed, and if your tastes haven’t changed, that’s fine too 😊

Soft caresses, my fingers feathers against your waist. The sparse brush of fingertips on your shirt, the slow soft sensations building and building until every little touch has you lightly shudder, resisting the urge to gasp and arch your back. Don’t forget, we are in company darling, you are hosting this event. I haven’t even brushed anywhere past your lower back and your already getting desperate?
A hand on your shoulder, flicking my thumb just twice across where your neck comes to meet it, over the same spot where the lovebite from this morning is hidden. A hand on your back ever so gently tracing the seams and edges of the binder under your shirt. Coming to slide down your spine and resting just above your waistband, a slight pressure behind it.
“My lord, are you alright? You seem distracted.” As you mutter your reply my finger drags up your spine, and this time you can’t stifle your sharp inhale, eyes half lidded. I lean in towards your ear, whispered words meet it. “I’ll do anything that you want done to you. For you. I’m going to leave, in five minutes a message will be brought to you concerning ‘urgent matters’. Meet me in your chambers.”
It isn’t an order or command, but a statement.
I know you’ll be there.
the first time, i'd wonder if it was by accident. you're fingers at my waist. by the third time i know it isn't. brushing my shirt, barely even pressing through to my skin and yet i feels so much more intense than if you were digging your hands into me.
i'd clench my jaw so hard i'd think i was going to break through my own teeth as the bruise on my neck, hyper sensitive skin, felt any kind of touch. shivering. then even more so when your voice grazes my ear.
i know i could refuse.
we both know i won't.
my hand is shaking as it turns the knob of the door, barely able to look at you as i close it, turn the key that's already in the lock, and let go of my mask. let my face become flushed, show how i'm already breathing heavy and we've done nothing yet.
you're waiting for me to say what i want, for me to ask. i'm not sure if i rightly know.
"i..." the words catch in my throat. "please, i... i need you."
you're almost humming as i watch you watch towards me and i press myself back into the door. i know you want a more specific answer. but i'm not sure or... or i am but i hesitate but...
"i need you to touch me. i feel as though i'm on fire and you're fingers barely grazed me but i'm... have me on my knees for you, on all fours, lay me down on the bed, i care not, just please, please... touch me?"

In honour of finally finishing Rico’s psychedelic mushroom project (which looks AMAZING and incredibly trippy I wish I could share it but I’d ruin the surprise ;___;) I thought I’d actually fucking post some past projects of mine.  I cross stitch as a hobby and these are some of my projects. All of these are actually ashamedly unframed (despite the hoops) and are currently sitting in my bookshelf but I’ll get around to them eventually! I have about 30+ projects I’ve worked on and I’ve only framed like 1% of them 😅😅 I’ve never actually posted any of these so maybe I’ll make a habit of it if people like them. :))
