World Watercolour Month: 31. Impulse
I have been struggling to get back to this challenge but I wanted to make one final attempt before I get busy again. I forced myself to start and finish a painting in 30 minutes - this is a quick doodle based off a photo I took of a magpie on the patio.
I don't like it, I'm not particularly proud of it, I don't think it really demonstrates much about what I have learned or whether I have improved at all over this challenge, but it sort of made me pause and remind myself that setting aside time and just practicing and following that impulse is the important part of doing it, the reason I do it at all is just to do it.

It is a universal truth that the day after a pretty decent tiger, a shitty 2 minute tiger must follow. And thus the world is kept in balance.

1/1/23. This poor response to drawing prompt ‘petal’ is posted simply as a statement of intention to draw more in 2023. Watercolour pencils and graphite.

A friend gave me my first bullet journal last Christmas (that's how the obsession begins) and that's what really prompted me to start drawing again, having to make darn month panels. March is my favourite and I’m now a little bit obsessed with bullet journaling

Some more playing around with watercolour pencil. I usually place this character in mediterranean-based environments but i felt like displaying some beautiful critters from nordic seas (doubly so since I just was out scuba diving)

Sometimes I convince myself I like drawing with pencils and then I’m trying to lay in large swathes of tone with, you know, a pencil and my wrist hurts and I get so bitchy about the whole thing
I think I liked it better with the pencil marks, but the richness of tone after adding water is nice.
