The name Khartoum means ‘elephant trunk’ as that is the shape of the thin split of land at the meeting point of the White and the Blue Nile. This meeting point is referred to as confluence or ‘al-Mogran’. Khartoum became the capital of Sudan when the country gained independence from the British. Look for cheap flights to Khartoum with Air Africa, to travel to this interesting capital of Sudan that is actually one of three cities in the area. To the North West across the White Nile is Omdurman while North Khartoum and Khartoum are on the south banks of the Blue Nile.
As with most cities in Sudan, Khartoum is not a very popular tourist destination. However, this makes it all the more interesting for those who do venture there. Away from the multitudes of tourists this city will be yours to explore as you please. Be prepared though. Despite Khartoum being the capital do not expect a very developed city, in fact paved streets are actually a rarity. Yet once at Khartoum, there is believe it or not, much to explore.

Massawa - City in Eritrea
Massawa is situated beside the Dahlak Archipelago in the Red Sea at the northern point of Gulf of Zula. This is one of the important coastal cities of Eritrea which was ruled by many emperors and countries. Later in 1991 it was given independence from the last rulers of Ethiopia. During late 1800s Massawa was the capital of the Italian Colony of Eritrea. In antiquity it was just a small seaside village where later due to various invasions of the foreigners it sooner became an important port city in red Sea.
Being a coastal city the role played by the water based transportation modes are very high where ferries and dhows are used generally. Additionally Massawa can be reached via flights landing in Massawa International Airport.

Plan ahead and book your flights to Mogadishu to get an authentic taste of this fascinating city that has witnessed so much history unfold within it. Mogadishu is situated in the Banaadir region, which overlooks the gorgeous blue hues of the Indian Ocean. Mogadishu itself is referred to as Xamar in the local language, but it is also informally known as the White Pearl of the Indian, a title it gleaned when it was under Italian colonial rule. Despite going through a brief period of intense civil unrest, Mogadishu is seeing immense reconstruction to occupy a place amongst the greatest African cities in the modern era.
The city of Mogadishu sits pretty on the coast of the Indian Ocean on the Horn of Africa. Divided into sixteen districts, it is chock full of sights to see and enjoy. Mogadishu also witnesses a strain of the might Shebelle River, which starts in Central Ethiopia, makes a splash near the Somali capital and then veers southwest. The river allows the cultivation of bananas, sugarcane, and cotton. When you are planning your budget flights to Mogadishu, try and time your arrival here between the months of June and August, as temperatures drop to a refreshing cool, before climbing again in September.

Ouargla - City in Algeria
Tumblr media
A unique city found off the beaten track Ouargla offers many attractions. Once popular for its gold and slave trading the city located in-land is surrounded by the Sahara. Found in old city of La Lasbah the Souk l’ehjar or ‘Old Rock Market’ is popular amongst the tourists for its abundant collection of Sand Roses each delicately unique while the diverse stalls offer an interesting collection of antiques, traditional crafts, dresses and yes! even stuffed-lizards. Make sure you pay a visit to the Old Mosque or ‘al Masjid al Atiq’ this historical monument was once home to well-known Islamic scholar Taleb et-Tayeb.
Do not expect modern amenities in this laid back city. Transport options are limited and hotels are few but comfortable, however as Ouargla is popular amongst tourists the city is well equipped to cater to varied taste. If it’s the all-encompassing desert experience you crave Ouargla will deliver. In-expensive local cuisine and friendly locals will soon have you relaxed and planning desert adventure safaris.

Top 4 Travel Destinations in Africa
Tumblr media
Travellers from around the world are growing bolder when it comes to travelling to Africa, and even though this beautiful country has been through a very difficult time this past year with the misleading information surrounding the spread of Ebola; to this day there still remains a continued interest in Africa holidays, here are the top four destinations you should visit.
First comes Tanzania home to three of Africa’s natural wonders, such as the Serengeti National Park; which is the site of spectacular animal migration and African safaris, Mt Kilimanjaro and the Ngorongoro Crater; it has also regularly been building up a list of elegant and private tented camps, which in turn has put this destination in the public eye.
African Tours come with a colossal range of accommodation choices, great prices and a regularly upgraded framework which makes this an extremely stunning option for what could be the most bountiful collection of game in all of Africa, a destination which has grown in tourism numbers since last year and will do so this year as well; a secure destination which makes it a winning choice for many tourists.
The joint visa for Zimbabwe and Zambia is predicted to put both countries on the map with many tourists, the range of scenery and wildlife presented by Zimbabwe’s Hwange, Matusadona and Mana Pools National Parks, are not to be missed; it also gives you breathtaking game viewing, outstanding African safari experiences, great guiding and the best of value for your money.
Zambia on the other hand is blessed with extraordinary natural wonders, a wealth of wildlife, huge water bodies and vast open spaces; it offers memorable holidays exploring the real Africa.
It is a safe and beautiful country to visit, with its friendly and warmly welcoming people who live together in peace and harmony.
In this warm part of Africa, you will be able to find some of the finest African Safaris on the planet, including face to face encounters with nature at its very best.
Africa Holidays gives you the picturesque waterways which provide you with adrenaline-thrills or a relaxed playground for all ages; with seventeen splendid waterfalls.
Which apart from the spectacular Victoria Falls provide “cascade followers” an adventure into the most withdrawn undeveloped rural areas where a taste of village life can be experienced, and the most beautiful and spectacular daily sunsets are almost guaranteed.
The fourth travel destination in Africa is Mozambique which calls to you with its charming coastline, swaying palms, traditions, its cultures, the vibe and most of all the opportunities for adventure.
Africa Tours also offers you this perplexing southeast African country which iswell off most travellers maps, but it has a lot to offer to those who travel here: like long, dune-fringed beaches, turquoise waters thriving in shoals of colourful fish, unspoiled corrals, remote archipelagos in the north, pummelling surf in the south and graceful dhows with billowing sails.
Adding to these you can find colonial-style architecture, pulsating nightlife, an endlessly captivating cultural mix and vast tracks of bush populated with elephants, lions and birds in abundance, finding these attractions is not always easy, but it is very rewarding. So bring along some endurance, an indulgence for extended bus rides, and an appreciation for adventure and have an expedition of a lifetime.

Kisumu - City in Kenya
Tumblr media
Kisumu is the third largest city in Kenya which is also a port city with an emerging oil export activities. The port was built by British in 1901 with the aim of converting it as an inland terminal of the Uganda Railway. Initially it was named as Port Florence. However later it was referred as Kisumu in the Dholuo name which means “a place to look for food.” Kisumu is idyllically situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, one of the African Great Lakes while connected with the other destinations such as Malindi, Mombasa and Pemba. This gave all the potential for Kisumu to become a prominent trading hub where various European companies and Indian traders were also allocated spots to settle. Resultantly by 1930s to 1940s, Kisumu developed as a primary centre for commerce, administration and military activities in the East African region.
Kisumu was also recognised as the “Millennium City: by United Nations due to its importance in the region. AN African city being renowned like this is first instance of its kind. This port city has attracted various foreign investment s and witnessing lucrative business development. As a result reaching and getting around the city is very easy. Any transportation mode such as water (sailing in ferries on the Lake Victoria), travelling in the roads by bus, car and taxis, rail and air is possible.
