Follow up to this ask about Steve and Bucky’s extended family from pre-war.
Joseph Rogers & America:
~
In CATFA, Steve said his dad was injured by mustard gas in WWI, but was in the 107th infantry, an American regiment, not an Irish one.
On the face of it, that makes it look like Joseph Rogers must have been in NYC from at least March 1917, possibly as late as Oct 1917 (since America only joined WWI in April 1917, but didn’t deploy until 20 November).
However…
If Joseph was living in Ireland between 1914-1918 then he would’ve been drafted into a UK Regiment before he could emigrate to America (since Ireland was then still part of the UK). Even as a resident alien in America, if he hadn’t already declared intent to become a US citizen he would’ve been subject to the UK’s draft instead.
So even though America didn’t join the war until 1917, to have avoided the UK draft altogether Joseph has to have been in New York since at least 1914.
(My first thought was that Sarah must have been with him, but not necessarily. She and Joseph could’ve married in Ireland, then he could have emigrated first to earn enough money to bring her along. Her alienation from an extended family network could’ve been because of this, or some other reason.)
Joseph and Sarah would’ve known from April 1917 that Joseph was going to be deployed with the US Army.
So if you believe the DOB for Steve being July 4 1918, then we know Joseph and Sarah must’ve been in the same place on Oct 7, 1917 (or a little later, if Steve was born premature, which is another possibility. Unless Steve’s real DOB is something else in 1918, but which months it could’ve been are severely limited by the dates of Joseph’s deployments.)
Which puts the date of Steve’s ‘official’ conception right before Joseph could conceivably have first been deployed (in Nov 1917).
That to me suggests a certain urgency. If Sarah wasn’t already with Joseph in NYC by then, she definitely emigrated at the very latest in October 1917.
It’s a potentially quite bittersweet scenario of Sarah going all the way to America by boat, only for her husband to be almost immediately shipped off to Europe to fight in the war.

Pairing: Chris Evans x Sebastian Stan
Word count: 11.6k
Rating: E
Summary: Sebastian knows about Chris Evans, has to take his shot when he sees him. Chris doesn’t have a clue who Sebastian is, aside from being a pretty guy he meets in a club. The attraction is instant, and Sebastian takes Chris home, with a little detour or two. Chris thinks it’s just a one-night stand he’ll be thinking about for a long time, cursing himself for not getting the guy’s number. Until a couple of months later, he starts filming on Captain America: The First Avenger, and he meets him again.

They make it back to Chris’s hotel room, but not to his bed. They talk (sort of).

This fic is now finished.
(But I might turn it into a series 😂)

Debunking the Claim that Bucky Barnes' Dog Tags "Prove He Cannot Be Jewish"
In 2021 and 2022, when discussing the fact that MCU!Bucky (henceforth referred to simply as Bucky) is based off of Arnie Roth, a gay Jewish man and Steve's childhood best friend, I received pushback from fans telling me that Bucky can't possibly be Jewish due to his dog tags; citing a behind the scenes picture posted by Sebastian Stan to his instagram story.
Tumblr media
Transcription of the dog tags:
James B. Barnes (Legal Name) 32557038 (Serial Number*) T41 42 (Tetanus Immunization) O (Blood Type) R. Barnes (Next of Kin) 3092 Stockton RD (Address) Shelbyville IN (Location) P (Religion Marker)
*A serial number starting with a 3 indicated that the servicemember was drafted into the Army, it's important that we do not forget that Bucky didn't chose to fight.
During World War II the dog tags of American service members would have had one of the following regulation religion markers:
P for Protestant (the marker we see on Bucky's dog tags)
C for Catholic
H for Hebrew, this being the marker for 'Jewish'
NO (or left blank) for No Religion
For Jewish servicemembers fighting in Europe, being discovered to be a Jew by your captors–especially if you were captured by the Nazis–carried considerable risk and could mean the difference between life or horrific torture, experimentation and possibly even death.
Some Jewish service members, justifiably incredibly fearful of what could happen if they were found out, would either omit a religion marker altogether or, after getting their tags, would attempt to obscure the 'H' marker in some way so it could not be read by their captors.
While this saved some lives, it was not a perfect and fool-proof system, and we have no way of knowing how many times it failed.
In 1943, the year Bucky was drafted, the Army introduced a more official (and more widely adoptable, and thus widely adopted) option to protect Jews in its ranks:
Through the European Theatre of Operations United States Army, Jewish servicemembers could elect to have the 'H' marker for Hebrew on their dog tags replaced with a 'P' for Protestant.
This would offer Jewish servicemembers a more convincing layer of protection if they were ever captured by the enemy, because, unlike an obscured religion marker (or that lack of one) which could itself draw suspicion, a set of dog tags printed with a 'P' would be entirely indistinguishable from the dog tags worn by a gentile and would be less likely to draw suspicion.
Due to this option being made available to Jewish people serving in the United States Armed Forces, the 'P' marker on Bucky's dog tags not only does not definitively prove that he's really a gentile, in actuality its presence provides even further historical support in favour of him being a Jewish man.

New Hands on Deck - Stucky, Explicit, AU: restaurant, Chef Steve, Waiter Bucky
Some people might call Bucky a shameless flirt.
They would say that just because Bucky knows Chef Steve is attracted to him doesn’t mean he should lap it up and squeeze it for everything he’s got.
And maybe they would be right. Maybe spending two hours at the gym and running late for work every day just so that his uniform will hug every single one of his muscles is in bad taste. Maybe preening at the way Steve clearly favors him over everyone else in the restaurant is tacky.
Too bad Bucky doesn’t give a shit.
~~~
Veteran Bucky Barnes slowly adapts to his new life as a civilian in NYC when he gets a job working at one of the finest luxury dining establishment in Brooklyn. The restaurant staff quickly becomes an extended family to him, but his relationship with the handsome and heavily-tattooed Head Chef Steve Rogers is more complicated...
For the @allcapsbingo March adoptable: AU - Chefs
A huge thank you to @sparkagrace for betareading and helping me brainstorm this story :)
