Labyrinth Fanart

I'm very lousy at this self-promotion thing, but here's my most recent Labyrinth watercolor. Done on A3-sized paper (11.69 x16.53 inches), it's my largest watercolor to date and caused me all sorts of stress since the paper was expensive and I didn't want to ruin it.

I also made a YouTube video of the process:

And since I like "As the World Falls Down" so much (that wonderful bass!), I also made a short vertical video and uploaded it to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to see how their audiences might differ. As expected, it was completely ignored by Instagram but had a better reception on TikTok. YouTube reacted relatively lukewarmly. It's always funny how there are people who take the trouble to downvote my videos on Youtube. 🤣

City kitties on Halloween, inspired by They Might Be Giants. My apologies in advance for this silliness. At first glance, it's two cute Brooklyn cats enjoying the spoils of Halloween at the park. BUT it's also a hidden (or not-so-hidden) homage to They Might Be Giants which is a band beloved by many, including me. I hadn't planned to do a painting this past weekend, but my brain became fixated on the idea of making art that could work on two completely different levels. But I can't decide whether I made the TMBG  references too subtle or if this is just completely dumb. How many references can you spot? If I didn't write this long-winded exposition, would you suspect anything? If you're curious about the art process, I made a Youtube short since one can legally use 15 seconds of copyright music from the Youtube library. I chose TMBG's "Hovering Sombrero." It's not a Halloween song at all, but holidays always make me wistful because we'll only see a finite number of them. And I always have to struggle against my natural introversion. (Every time I post something online, I have the urge to run and hide for a bit). I actually have been posting a lot more art on Instagram, but it feels safer there in a weird way. The Instagram algorithm ignores most people so it's basically shouting into empty void. Anyway, Hovering Sombrero is a lovely song. Do check out TMBG's music if you haven't heard of them.

I got into Tumblr in the first place because Doomsday left me a blubbering mess and Journey's End created too much angst. I needed to find my people--the people who were suffering through the same thing! After so many years, I still am amazed at how much of a reaction RTD was able to wring out of the audience. In honor of his return to Doctor Who, I thought I'd share my watercolor of Rose Tyler. Her increased maturity and sadness in series 4 was really very interesting to capture. Her downcast eyes reminded me of the Pietà. I also made a 15 sec Youtube short video on the painting process. I just couldn't help myself. I just had to use the Doctor Who theme music!

Not sure if the Whovians are still hanging around Tumblr much. If so, I definitely read all your fanfics on AO3 to help console myself! Big Finish audio dramas notwithstanding, maybe now we'll finally get some answers on what Rose has been up to in the other universe?

Halloween 2021 fanart: Sakura x Kiki This one took too long to complete and had so many layers! My computer was really struggling. But I really wanted to get this fanart done before Halloween. ひまわり "Sunflower": This fanart started out as a doodle when I was messing around with marker pens. Then I spent way too much time trying to make a digital version. CLAMP always designs really cute clothing.

I really felt like eating cookies. The top image started out as a traditional drawing colored with markers, but I decided to redo it digitally since the marker colors were really limited. Do you think Sakura would take out the Rewind card at home just because it is so cute? She can go "hanyaaan" without getting embarrassed!

Kinomoto Sakura always brightens my day.  Maybe that’s why I find myself doing fanart for her this year after a very long absence? This is Sakura's summer uniform in elementary school. Hope she brightens your day too!

And an extra bonus from me: I imagined a cute scene from their elementary school days when I was drawing the above. (Still learning Japanese so apologies in advance for any mistakes.)

Syaoran was really cute in elementary school. He's definitely more mature now, but I sort of miss the amusing brat who liked to hang out in trees and run away from his feelings.

It’s been a rough year.  I haven’t done any art at all. (I also haven’t posted any art online since the heyday of DeviantArt but that’s a different story).  I was having a rotten day today so I got the urge to paint Sakura, Kero, and Spinel to brighten my mood tonight.  I was afraid my tubes of paint would have dried shut by now.  The background isn’t good--didn’t have the energy.  I don't have a scanner.  So I took a photo >_<  Sakura is in her middle school summer uniform.  I hope the next chapters of the manga will be interesting.

Jaffa cakes

Jaffa cakes need to be more easily available in my home country. Both plain and chocolate digestives are pretty easily had--even Whole Foods has them. Hob Nobs and Rich Tea biscuits are at certain supermarkets as well. Walkers shortbread is definitely everywhere.  However, the Jaffa cake is clearly superior to all yet I have to resort to Amazon.  Don't even get me started on Tunnocks tea cakes.

Magical chocolate flan cake is magical because the chocolate cake part and flan part (and caramel sauce part) separate themselves out in the oven. #cooking
