upon realising he’s allowed to be gay he got a whole town to fall in love with him (accidentally) i’m scared of what he could do if he figures out he can trans his gender
genderqueer edwin lives rent free in my head i love them SO MUCH.
Now that I've watched the whole show, what was up with Edwin replying "yes" to Niko asking "are you always a woman?"
Like sure both were referring to the disguises (one would assume) but a) Edwin has in fact disguised as a guy at least once during the series, and b) the fact that he routinely chooses for his disguises to be women is something to... discuss some more at the very least

I often hear that how I imagine Henry Winter is not accurate, and that he’s not hot.
Lies.
Tall? Dark hair? Looks intimidating? Just shy of being handsome? Thin steel framed glasses??

“I know first person povs pretty much always entail unreliable narratives but this man seems particularly not at all reliable” FELT.
same with reading TTMR like for both of those books i was just on edge like TOM AND RICHIE ARE YOU LYING TO ME RN
reading 'the secret history' by donna tartt for the first time, so here are my thoughts on the prologue through chapter 1:
[CONTAINS SPOILERS] obviously
— it is so spectacularly written that i don't even care how much richard complains and talks about nothing because it reads so nicely
— john richard papen is queer (derogatory (for him))
— francis abernathy is queer (canonically(??))
— henry winter and professor julian morrow are queer and i don't care that henry is a legal adult, i do not like whatever they've got going on with each other
— people probably want bunny corcoran to be queer (probably because his name is bunny and what straight man would ever go by bunny?? and also because he's dead), but he is not, i fear he's just pathetic and loud (so far)
— there is something very sinister about professor julian morrow, i do not trust that fugly slut
— nevertheless he does eat when it comes to in-class discussion
— i should probably read more greek classics
— also do not trust richard, i know first person povs pretty much always entail unreliable narratives, but this man seems particularly not at all reliable
— also also do not trust bunny,,,, idk he just seems too nice for the company he keeps and that doesn't make sense (well actually he does end up dead so,,)
— actually i don't really trust any of them,, it's probably because the book opens with murder, but there's something very unsettling about everyone and everything
— again donna tartt is a wonderful writer

I’ve seen a few reviews of The Secret History tonight and they all fell in the ‘the first half was good but once the mystery was revealed it meandered and didn’t go anywhere’ camp. Which just shows that most people who read The Secret History haven’t encountered Greek Tragedy before.
Unlike familiar heroes journeys or mystery novels of the 20th century, greek tragedies were typically told in two parts - the violent or tragic act shown to the audience, followed by the characters responsible meeting their fates. TSH is a modern retelling of a Greek Tragedy - Richard is the chorus witnessing the downfall of the players for what they did to Bunny, and for all the choices they made along the way.
A tragedy is never about the whodunnit, or the why, tragedies act as a warning of what will happen to you should you follow the same path. It’s why it is so fucking brilliant; it’s satire of everything wrong with academia and fiscal elitism told through the vessel of an academic pursuit typically reserved for those who are a part of that elitist class.
I think you need a basic understanding of Greek Tragedy to realise just how brilliant it is. Thank god for Greek Theatre in second year uni - a semester of Antigone didn’t have much of an impact then, but it certainly helped me appreciate a fantastic novel.
