time travel x magic reveal idea

Because of a spell, Merlin switches places with his 5 year old self, finding himself back in Ealdor in the past.

Child Merlin is taken care of by the knights and King Arthur and Gwen in the present while they try to find out what's going on and how to get their Merlin back, at first thinking Merlin just got turned into a child until he doesn't recognize them at all.

Because he doesn't quite know how to control his magic yet, Child Merlin accidentally uses it in front of the others and when he realizes they've seen him and are confused/startled he starts begging for his life and for mercy and says that he didn't mean to he was born with magic and that he doesn't mean any harm.

So Arthur, confused and angry about Merlin having magic, has to quickly overcome these feelings and realize exactly why Merlin never told anyone because he's staring down at a small child who is begging for his life. They comfort him and accept his magic (though Arthur says that he's going to have a long talk with their Merlin when he gets back) and promise to protect him.

Meanwhile, in the past, Adult Merlin is explaining the situation to Hunith and she asks after his life in the future and when he tells her how he's learned to control his magic and about his friends and (some things) about his destiny she is just so happy that he's found a place for himself.

In the end, they return to their proper places and somehow during the process Child Merlin loses his memory of it all so Adult Merlin doesn't remember that at just 5 years old he was surrounded by people who loved him and accepted his magic right in front of them.

And Adult Merlin telling Hunith about his life in Camelot is the exact reason she sends him there in the first place because even though magic is illegal, she knows that he will be happy there.

Merlin is frozen.

He’s stiff and warm and his hands are spread in the air and he thinks he’ll be stuck like this forever. Arthur’s lips are soft, though, and his hands are gentle against Merlin’s cheeks so there really were worse places to be stuck.

Arthur doesn’t seem to think so, leaning back before Merlin can gather his thoughts–and lips– to respond, still cradling his face. He goes to pull away but Merlin finds it in himself to reach out, grasping at Arthur’s wrists to keep him close.

The prince swallows, his lips parted and beautiful, searching Merlin’s face with his crystal clear eyes.

“Merlin… I’m…” He pauses, his brow crinkling. “Do you hear that?”

For a moment, he thinks Arthur can hear his heartbeat, echoing through his ears and through the stables. He can’t hear anything but the rapid beating in his chest and the heavy breaths that pass between them, the world silent around them.

Silent.

Merlin blinks, Arthur stepping back toward the door to the stables, leaning his head out. The servant follows, still holding onto one of his wrists, and gazes out to the castle grounds.

The sun shines brightly overhead across all of Camelot and, at a glance, seems completely ordinary. However, the knights across the field are stopped completely in their long strides, one of the riding horses’ head is turned, its mane circling its muzzle suspended in the air, and one of the servants’ hands are outstretched, a pot of water spilling over but not flowing in the slightest.

Camelot is frozen, trapped in time.

His heart drops, nails digging into Arthur’s wrist, the aura of magic surrounding them familiar. An extension of his own magic, gripping his chest, and a sickly feeling settles in his stomach.

“What…?” Arthur mutters, reaching for his blade, placing a hand on the hilt. “Who could’ve done this?”

His tone is accusatory and asked to the air, not expecting a response and Merlin’s eyes burn from tears. Squeezing them shut tight as he reaches out with his magic, with his very being, he begs anything that could hear to make it all okay. To make time move again and take them both back to that moment Arthur approached him in the stables.

He’s not ready.

i like dragon merlin fics as much as the next person but you know what i rarely see and want to see more of? merlin turning into any animal out there fucking up and causing chaos in the camelot castle the cook has a personal vendetta against a stoat that keeps stealing the sausages morgana has lost many daggers to a fucking raccoon uthers bed has dog piss every week despite never letting a dog in gwen swears there is a sweet little cat near the physician chambers that always brings her a flower but no one ever sees the cat meanwhile arthur keeps trying and failing to show the knights this cool merlin falcon that he found in the woods and is self-trained in attacking bandits but the bird will never show up in front of the knights meanwhile gaius is just glaring at merlin with his high Eyebrow of Doom and merlin is just like sitting there i dont know what youre implying gaius while flicking another page of the animal transformation book he found in the secret hidden library

Modern BBC Merlin AU where instead of sorcerers they're vampires and Arthur is just as oblivious that his roommate Merlin is hiding anything from him. Bonus points if the Pendragons are vampire hunters.

Leon: Why does Merlin never have lunch with us? Arthur: He usually sleeps in because he stays up way too late. We'll see him around dinner time.

There was a stinkbug in my apartment earlier so when I went into the living room I thought that's what I heard flying around but it turns out a wasp had also snuck inside!

So I opened the front door and held it open waiting for it to leave and when it just sat on the ceiling above my door I said "Please, exit." and flew right out!

What a polite wasp.

I'm unfortunately very boring in that regard and separate my wips by the fandom they're apart of! It's mostly Merlin fics though and I have them spread across a few docs titled "Merlin" or "Wish Series" for the series.

But! I was originally giving myself a writing challenge for Spring to post one chapter of a Merlin fic once a week for the 14 weeks of Spring so that document is called "Magic Blossoms" (for the spring merlin event I wanted it to be :( ) but I have adhd and crave validation so I posted the four chapters I wrote for it within the first week of Spring ':D

I love the idea of a Tangled/Rapunzel Merlin AU (Arthur as Rapunzel) but that begs the question… is Morgana Mother Gothel??

It would make sense if she’s like an ancient witch who keeps herself young (like the movie) but I just think it’s so much funnier if 3 year old Morgana kidnapped her half brother, maybe hoping to keep him safe? Like she just picked him up one night and walked out of the city and her magic led them to the tower.

Don’t ask me what happens after that because idk I just like the imagery lol

31. Side character death that makes you the saddest?

Freya!!! They really had a way of getting Merlin (and me!) too attached to someone in the span of one episode just to kill them at the end. And I knew it wasn't going to end well but it still destroyed me. In my mind, he goes to the lake to visit her and have little picnics with her.

36. Underrated friendship?

Gaius & Geoffrey! We need to see them sipping tea and gossiping about Uther and Merlin more.

37. Random plot idea you think would have been funny for an episode?

Someone claims that Merlin has magic so to disprove it Arthur is like "okay I will remain shackled to him for a week to prove that he doesn't have magic" and shenanigans ensue.
