Binged The Third Charm. Such an underrated drama, but so so good. The show completely walks away from the traditional drama storyline and format and introduces real life elements as they are, unromanticized, moving against the trends to tell a story that is set apart from the typical Kdramas. Well written story, well acted.

Just finished watching Divorce Attorney Shin with Cho Seung-woo in the title role. (Loved him also in both seasons of The Stranger). This 12 episode drama is a gem! Full of heart-break but also very warm-hearted. The friendship between the three male protagonists defies description. The two child actors were exceptional. Highly recommend.

Watched A Nation of Kimchi last night. Two one-hour episodes showcasing the history of kimchi (goes back to the Goryeo period) and the different regional variations. Fantastic restaurant using ingredients from different parts of the world to make fusion kimchi. Kimchi tacos anyone? How about asparagus kimchi?

Binged another underrated but great drama, Melancholia, starring Lee Do-hyun and Im So-jung. It’s an ode to mathematics …. impeccable acting, cinematography, and music. The warm relationships the characters made with each other, the redemption arcs and the justice served, the nuanced portrayal of life and love hold one’s attention …. You don’t want the drama to end, you want to savor every episode…. I have to say Lee Do-hyun knows what kind of dramas to choose. I loved him in Youth of May and The Glory, and am looking to Exhuma. But Im So-jung was also superb. I want to be the kind of teacher she portrayed… I want to emulate her style… in guiding students and … in clothes. As an academic, I also relished the little things related to being an academic: going AWOL when writing a paper, finding references and inspiration in random things.…
