THAT'S A WRAP!

As far as 35mm photos go, this is all I got left.

I already made my big long posts about what went down & how I felt, so there's honestly not much more too it. All these pics are specifically from Day 2 of the event, and obviously I'm not in my typical Popstar uniform (metallic bikini, leather thong, and fishnets). Since Day 1 was filled with so many moving parts and was lowkey stressful as hell, I was determined to just have the most fun possible as a ✨fan✨ on the second night.

I still had to come fitted up though so I wore my Elena Fortune shorts, my new Collina Strada x Melissa sandals, and a massive hickey for that classic off-duty-niche-internet-micro-celebrity-low-effort look LOL. I very much felt like I was cosplaying as some kind of chronically online court jester, but it was still a serve idc.

Everyone I saw that night made me transcend to a different plane forreal, but overall EVERYONE I saw over the course of those two nights were absolutely amazing.

Because. These. Are. My. Friends.

**ahhh ok this one's kinda sappy**

It's so funny think about how much my life has changed over the course of the pandemic. Obviously the whole entire world changed and obviously I am not the first person to have this revelation, but it will never not take me by surprise when I really sit down to think about it.

Pre-pandemic, I was barely an artist and an entirely self-produced one at that. I found so much pride in being on my own little creative island, and while I still think that mentality is massively admirable, I simply don't know what type of person I would without allowing myself to sink into the depths of the internet to explore new parts of myself through the several phases of the pandemic.

When Los Angeles reopened back in Summer 2021, I was coming back into the world, graduating college, and reconnecting with people I hadn't spoken too since lockdown. I was quickly realizing that I didn't really recognize the life I was trying to resume and for the first time in my adult life, I felt completely free to start everything over (as many did, I'm sure). I started introducing myself to people by my artist name, playing live shows for the first time, and before I knew it my life looked completely different. I was going out more, staying out later, dressing cooler, going to shows with strangers that have since become some of my best friends, and getting recognized in person as the girl from online. My writing was getting better, I was working with more people than I thought I ever could, and everything started feeling just a little bit easier and a lot more fun.

It's actually so hard to believe that if it weren't for my leave of absence from the Rat Race™ of pursuing Film, I wouldn't have these moments I'm living literally right now... Not only playing Boiler Room x Subculture myself, but also seeing so many other friends there– both in the crowd and on the lineup. Looking at my life now, it's truly insane how far I've come with the support and love of the friends I know from the internet.

Much love to all my friends who came to the show. Shoutout to everyone who has supported me endlessly over the years. I literally love all my friends, but yeah idk just something so full circle about celebrating last weekend with a bunch of people I initially only knew through Twitter <3

The Show Goes On

I had been thinking about this set– the sequences, the movement, the onstage outfit changes– for weeks. I don't usually prepare for my sets so early in advance, but I didn't want to leave any room for error with this show in particular. Of course, there were sooo many elements that were out of my control that night– as every show night– so it was even more important to make sure I had all my shit together ahead of time.

I've played Catch One like 5 times at this point, so at least I was comfortable with the space and the layout. I've also already worked with the same sound tech from my last show at Catch One so he was already familiar with my setup too (which really made soundcheck super smooth). Between soundcheck & the show, Sunny, Hash, and Noah, and I went to Frax's airbnb to put the final touches on the look. By the time we all pulled back up to the venue, we could immediately see the massive line wrapped around the block... We were super worried for about 45 minutes that the rest our friends who were stuck in line wouldn't be able to get in in time to see me go on but Noah finessed everybody in just in time :)

I was kinda nervous when more and more people started to fill the room as the set ahead of me was coming to a close, but mostly I was just eager to finally do what I've spent the last month visualizing in my head. When I walked on the stage, I wanted to make this really dramatic Popstar entrance.... I had a whole thing planned out buttttt of course the mic was turned completely off when I started singing and when it finally turned on, there was so much feedback that even the autotune was out of key.... It was looking bleak for a second I'm ngl but once we finally got the first chorus, it was completely fine and went all the way off.

Or so I thought.....

Halfway through my set, there seemed to be a bit of a miscommunication about how long my set was actually supposed to be. Literally DURING Fancam, I almost got cut off right in the middle of my song right before Fraxiom came on to join me for Superpop! and Knock Knock. Sunny held down the decks even when people were coming on stage trying to get us to stop and we pushed through.... I was pissedddd through the next few songs and looking back on the vids, you can definitely tell hahahahaha (no hard feelings at all tho)

All things considered, the show was an absolute slay... Dare I say, the Biggest slay I could've ever asked for <3 The room was decently filled by the time my set started, but as I got off stage, the room was the most packed I had ever seen it. There was so much love & energy in The Jewel's Room at Catch One on 12/2/22 and I could tell pretty immediately that this was a moment in my life that could never be replicated or even properly captured–not even through all the beautiful photos we took to look back on

hi i just wanted to say you’re a huge inspiration for me as a black artist who’s kinda in the hyperpop space <333 there was a time where i thought i couldn’t make electronic music bc i didn’t fit in what the scene looked like but seeing people like you and dj recode makes me so happy :))

this is so so so sweet <3 this was also a big struggle for me back when i was just starting to share my stuff in 2019... i'm so glad i can be an inspiration for you because i def wished i had more to work with the fr!!! keep going and experimenting!!!!!!

POPSTAR DIARY #1

Pre-Show

Getting ready and doing the hair and the makeup and all the final touches… it’s always been my favorite thing to do before a show. I usually feel extremely anxious for soundcheck and tech rehearsals, but when I’m getting in the outfit and listening to a playlist that helps me get in my element, it feels like I’m back in middle school getting ready for a school dance or something.

For this look, I had my friends Hash & Sunny help me out. Hash actually styled this whole look, but I’ll save the details of that for another post <3

As usual, I did most of makeup myself before soundcheck but later in the night, Hash helped me out with the face gems… it was our first time doing that and ofc it was wayyyy harder than we thought it would be 😭 We were also kinda down to the wire with timing because Noah had to run out to cvs to grab lash glue so we could get the gems to stick – kinda chaotic moment for sure. Totally worth it tho ✨💕
