Things probably only I think about: as far as TV creators go, Emily Kapnek has been done dirty.
I was just talking to @theforceisstronginthegirl about this. Emily Kapnek is a TV writer and producer who you might know for creating the Nickelodeon show As Told By Ginger.
Tumblr media
Emily Kapnek created three live-action shows for Warner Brothers that aired between 2011 and 2019 on ABC. Suburgatory with Jane Levy ran for three seasons, Selfie with Karen Gillan ran for one season, and Splitting Up Together with Jenna Fischer ran for two seasons (although that's a remake of a Danish show so she technically "developed" it). All of them were really funny, critically well received, but short-lived because not a ton of people watched them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Except for the first season of Suburgatory, you cannot legally watch these shows ANYWHERE.
These shows were never released on DVD, aren't streaming anywhere, and cannot be purchased digitally (except for the first season of Suburgatory for some reason). They are inaccessible to the public through legal means.
I don't know what god or devil Emily Kapnek pissed off to have almost a decade of her work be wiped from legal existence, but she has been done dirty.
TL;DR - Three well loved but underwatched shows created by the same person are pretty much unavailable to watch legally & I think about it A LOT.

Nice Ask Week, you have been granted extremely specific time travel powers ✨✨✨you can go back in time and give another season to a show that you think was cancelled too soon.  What show are you going back to save? ✨✨✨

It's rare to see John Cho at conventions. His last one was years ago. What are the chances John and Karen Gillan might eventually attend the same event in the future? They're both represented by United Talent Agency. 🤔

After watching the recent episode of Mythical Kitchen with Karen Gillan, I wish Karen and John Cho could have done something similar together like Netflix's Tastebuds. So they can swap meals and talk about their projects lol

Karen Gillan talks about Selfie with The AV Club
AVC: Keeping in the rom-com space, I was a big fan of the show Selfie you did with John Cho. It only got one season on ABC, and later on Hulu, but I wanted more. It was too short-lived! KG: Oh, I loved that TV show. Oh, that was so, so much fun to work on, and such a challenge. Like the amount of dialogue I had in a day that I had to get through was all-consuming. I remember, like, every night working for hours to learn it, and then just having to go to sleep and wake up and do it again. But it was such a good training ground. AVC: Did you ever imagine you’d be working on an American sitcom? Or did you always want to do that? KG: Oh, I did. I grew up like a massive fan of Friends. Like, that was the greatest. It’s still the greatest thing that was ever on television. And so to be filming an American sitcom across the road from the stage where they filmed Friends was like a sort of trippy moment in my life. AVC: I must admit it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that it was My Fair Lady, or I guess Pygmalion, right? It should have been obvious from the names, Eliza Dooley and Henry Higgs. I mean, come on. But you and John Cho had a lot of chemistry. You were both great in it. KG: Oh, he’s the best. I love him.

Karen Gillan talks about Da'Vine Joy Randolph's Oscar win
Speaking of different genres you've done, your Selfie co-star Da’Vine Joy Randolph recently won an Oscar for The Holdovers. What was your reaction to the movie and her win? I loved The Holdovers. I thought she was brilliant in it. And I actually worked with Paul Giamatti in another film as well, and they were both brilliant in it, so I was really, really, really happy to see that. It was just so cool to see her up there on the stage, and I was really chuffed for her.
