The cycle of childhood trauma recovery:
"wow isn't it weird i never developed anything from this extremely traumatizing childhood event i experienced?"
"wdym that's a sign of a disorder"
"wdym that's a sign of a disorder"
"wdym that's a sign of a disorder"
"wdym
#I'm the other way around I think...#spent my teens like “wow I'm so messed up it's crazy I don't have any reason to be this way I wanna kill people just kinda for no reason”#“wdym normal kids bond with their parents beyond relying on them to feed and house you”#“wdym normal kids aren't bullied from before they even go to school”#“wdym normal kids have close friends after the age of 8 and maintain friendships that last more than a few months”#“wdym normal kids are not haunted by constant unending nightmares and sleep deprivation from the moment they comprehend fear”#“wdym those are traumatic experiences somehow?”#“no I'm just a homicidal split personality maniac for no reason and I will baffle doctors once I make myself known because I'm so special”#literally I figured out I was s system before I found out how they work irl I just saw fictional villains and went “haha I do that”#not without alters denying it though lol but to some it was kinda undeniable#and to Grin I think he desperately needed the affirmation that he was “crazy”. he couldn't stand the thought of not being so so messed up#listen idk why my brain decided I needed a homicidal clown in there but it made him anyway#and the more I learn about ASPD from prev the more he sounds like an accurate portrayal? like bro THE BOREDOM#I remember how unbearable he found it and honestly I think that may have been big part of why we got depression#and the more I look at NPD the more Dream Maws seems to fit the bill but like he's RIGHT#he literally IS the smartest person he's ever met he literally is the center of his universe everyone else literally is an NPC#because he only fronts in dreams dude. and he is fully aware of it too like he knows that world exists for him#but bro NO ONE there respects him ever#like he has lucid dreaming powers at all times and the world around him will bend over backwards to not acknowledge it#he'll be like “hey look I'm immortal” and remove his own head and everyone will look away and ignore him#why am I talking about this#uh idk point is I'm collecting disorders even ones I can't have because it should be your whole brain and I don't know stuff was traumatic#trauma#tw death mention#cw death mention#(to be clear I uh am no longer homicidal um. murder clown don't front no more.)

art is art even if I hate the people who made it and think it sucks and all the fans are rude about it. art status cannot be revoked based on who made it or how it appeals to me or how people engage with it. imho.
you disagree. reblog.

let’s say that being hot as a form of empowerment for all women could even be a thing. let’s say it’s possible to look hot for yourself and not for men. where did your idea of hotness come from? why is it important to you to look hot? who decides what’s hot? why must you change something about yourself or cover something about yourself to get hot? what makes you not hot at your most unmanicured state? why? how did you know what to do to get hot? do the people around you view hotness in the same way?

Unpopular opinion: not everything that makes you uncomfortable is bad. Sometimes discomfort means your worldview is being challenged. It’s okay to sit with discomfort and think about where it’s coming from.

So did the "fuck content warnings! You HAVE to see this if you CARE!" crowd just forget that content warnings exist, y'know, for people personally tied to it. If they put a "discretion advised" disclaimer before a news story about a shooting, that's to avoid triggering people who have trauma from similar shootings. That's. That's why it's called a trigger warning
They imagine that they're righteously screaming at some fiend refusing to engage out of self-interest, but really they're just retraumatizing people who were directly impacted by the violence, or who have family or a community who were, over an entirely imaginary crusade

On related note, a few years ago, the Entomological Society of America officially discontinued the use of "gypsy moth" and "gyspy ant" as common names for Lymantria dispar and Aphaenogaster araneoides. L. Dispar is now known as the "spongy moth," so named for the appearance of their eggs, but I don't think a new common name has caught on for the ant species yet.
These changes we brought about, in large part, by the advocacy of Romani people in academia. You might not think that bug names are a very serious issue, but I believe that language matters. These species became known as "gypsies" because their attributes were likened to certain stereotypes and negative perceptions of actual Roma, so the continued use of those names reaffirmed those negative associations in the public consciousness. Slurs and pejoratives can never be truly decontexualized.
In my mind, one of the biggest obstacles that Romani people face when we are trying to advocate for ourselves is a lack of recognition as a marginalized group that deserves the necessary consideration. Even for seemingly trivial matters, like bugs or comic book characters, the way that people talk about us-- and talk down to us, when we get involved-- is telling. So, I always think that changes like this are a win, because it means that people are willing to learn and grant us the dignity we deserve. And there's nothing wrong with wanting to effect change in your own field, even arts and science.
