Well hey there. Wear a mask! My story..
8/4/2020
Week 5/12 in my last term of nursing school. We had been online last term. This term the school opened up... but not for long. People were getting sick and dropping like flies. Teachers were exposed as well. So we are back online... I am sick as well. I will not have results for several days. I was admitted into a home health agency to monitor my symptoms and treat what we can. When I got tested I was told it’s likely a mild case. I feel like it’s progressing. My anxiety is so high because I’m afraid I’ll get behind in school. I just want to graduate! I could use all the prayers and good vibes I can get. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. This virus is not a hoax or a joke. It sucks. You don’t want it.

Done!... for now
6/19/2020
Week 11/12 : just 2 more discussion posts. I’m excited and anxious for this next term. It’s my final one! I’m praying I make it through. I’m holding on and getting ready for a bumpy ride.
Also life update: I had an MRI the other day for my wrist(see previous posts) and the orthopedic office called today. They said the doctor wanted to see me to go over the results... I’ve heard this type of situation usually means bad news so I’m pretty worried.

Advice for incoming nursing students!
1. Try your best to be FLEXIBLE :). Most nursing schools tend to be quite disorganized. Even when you plan out your study schedule and write things out perfectly in your planner, things are going to change.
2. The rose colored glasses will come off, but you gotta keep staying positive and find ways to enjoy the process as you progress throughout the program. Nursing school is a very teeny tiny chunk compared to the rest of your life.
3. Create healthy boundaries (mental and physical)! One of my most important boundaries is not having instagram. I spend a lot of time on it when I have it and I’ve found that its not good for my mental health, because I just end up comparing myself to other people. When you are in nursing school its very important to be focused, so put a boundary on something that takes away your focus.
4. Get to know the seniors! They have been in your shoes and taken the same classes and most of the same teachers. They can give you their notes, study tips, and advice tailored to your programs course. There are lots of videos on youtube of students showing how they studied for their courses, but trust me, getting advice from seniors that actually took the course with the same teacher you will have is the best thing you can do.
5. Meal Prep and try your best to eat as healthy as you can. Once you start the program you are going to be tired all the time. So fuel your body with food that will give you energy and not junk food that will make you even more sluggish.
6. Study in increments. Don’t just sit down and start studying for three hours non-stop. Create a goal and use a timer to study for 25 minutes and then take a  5 or 8 minute break. This will help to prolong your study time :).
7. This is the most important. BE KIND TO YOURSELF AND HAVE ME TIME. Nursing school can be extremely overwhelming at times when you first start, so its important to find me time to do things that you love and make you happy. If you are studying and not absorbing anything and feel overwhelmed stop for the night and just go to bed. If you can feel a burn out coming schedule a few hours to just watch Netflix or take a nap. If you need to talk to someone find a counselor or call a friend. Your mental, physical, and spiritual health is more important than getting a 4.0 at the end of the day.

Hello again. It’s been a while. I’m going into my last week of the semester!! That means finals and no sleep. 🥴 I just keep thinking “ only 3 more months...just 3 more”
Also the school still doesn’t know if we will be back on campus or not for next semester.

Welp. Ortho in a few days to get checked out. Urgent care thinks it’s broken. It’s my right wrist and I’m right handed. I already feel like I’m doing tasks significantly slower because I don’t have both hands. I’m hoping school will understand that I may take longer on exams. I had trouble taking notes in yesterday’s lecture. I got so frustrated between the pain and the awful handwriting. As for planning I already miss it. I’m stuck using voice to text to make to do lists.

In 4 more days it will be 2 months since being told the school campus was shutting down due to COVID-19. I’m currently in week six out of twelve of the term. Yesterday I had enough motivation to actually decorate my Weekly spread. I’m still adding onto it as I listen to my Summer playlist. One of the assignments due this week is a paper on how COVID-19 has affected me and my family.
One of the good things that has come out of being stuck at home for two months is that my boyfriend and I have built a garden. I can’t wait to transfer my seedlings over. I’m so excited!

A much needed post to see ❤️ 5 years later and I’ll be getting my ADN in September. Fingers crossed!
5 years down, 1 more to go
Not everybody has a cookie cutter, perfect 4 year academic experience. Mine certainly hasn't been. If you're struggling, you will get where you need to be. 💕

I don’t know how many days it’s been since physically being in a classroom. Definitely over a month. Classes are on zoom... including simulations. One of the things keeping me from going insane is my planner where I can make lists. It’s the one place I feel organized. If I get things done on this list I might just start decorating the rest of my planner with motivational quotes to keep me going.

I think my struggle has been sticking to a schedule. I haven’t been able to since starting online classes.

Day 34 social distancing. Setting boundaries.
4/19/2020 1034
Classes started back up on the 6th. I won’t be having any clinical rotations this term and I’m so sad. I feel like I’m not getting that practice that’s needed. I don’t feel prepared.
I still live at home helping my mother and grandmother. I had been having such a hard time getting things done in a timely manner because I’ve been constantly needed. With that being said I started to make boundaries, but I wasn’t respecting them. I would block off a section of my day to not be bothered but when I would get bothered I’d stray away from my work. I didn’t say NO. Now I’m struggling in my classes it feels like. **Set boundaries for yourself. Respect them. Otherwise no one else will. **

Day 19 social distancing
4/5/2020 1000
Well my state finally started the stay at home order 2 days ago.
My classes start tomorrow... online of course. I’m so anxious about these classes. I got the email with information about our first lecture on zoom and I’m so overwhelmed. Leadership and mental health...
My focus for today is to make sure my desk area is clean, my webcam is installed, and I am somewhat prepared for lecture tomorrow.

Day 12 of distancing
3/28/2020
Day 12 started off with making cinnamon rolls. Then turning in some final grade paperwork. When we normally sign these forms it’s the last day of the term and we are COMPLETELY done. So I took my 86.4% and ran. 😂
Then I went to visit my boyfriend and his niece. I missed him so bad. We are still respecting the social distancing rule. Staying 8 feet away from people. Only going shopping if absolutely necessary.

It’s OK to be non productive!—Social distancing. Day 9
3/26/2020 2032-
It’s ok to not be productive every once and a while. I find myself struggling when I feel I’m non productive. But today I said screw it. I woke u a little later than normal and helped my mom with some things. Then I went grocery shopping for my 89 year old nana. After that I made dinner for the whole family.
I got on my computer to play games for the rest of the night. I would still be playing them now but I thought I should probably unplug for a while before bed and see what happens.
Speaking of unplugging. I’ve started to limit myself when it comes to watching the news and online media. I’ve had several panic attacks in the last week because of all the chaos. I live with iunosupressed people and CANNOT bring this thing into the house. So, I only going out for food and medications when nescessary.
Oh, My boyfriend and I have agreed to even distance from each other and take shelter because in the upcoming week the virus is supposed to get really bad. And our governor does not want to do a statewide shutdown 🤦🏻‍♀️
Until tomorrow. -maize

Day 9 of social distancing
3/25/2020. 1150
I’ve strayed off my routine since being told to distance and stay home. There’s so many distractions. This morning I mowed part of the lawn. Now I’m sitting going through clothes trying to decide what to part with.
I’m struggling with zoom currently. Everything is so slow because everyone is online. I’m trying to have an open mind and not get anxious about the classes being put online, but it’s so hard.
