I'm coming clean

I like country music. I'm not ashamed.

I used to be though. Kids would bully me for my love of country. So much so that I made it seem like I liked other genres that were popular and I just acted okay. It may seem like a dumb thing to be ashamed of or cry over (I did cry) but it really hurt me.

My music was what got me through the day and I thought that if I want people to like me, I need to stop listening to this genre. Imagine giving up your happiness to try and make yourself happy. Does that make any sense. It doesn't, but that's what it felt like for me.

My music is what made me happy in life no matter what and I wanted to give it up just because some Douchbags thought I was weird for it? Just, like. What the heck past Claire?

Guys, music is powerful. And I've been told that country is the most powerful. (Which is just my own personal opinion) it really connects to people who live the way the writers live and that's how I've always wanted to live.

Hell? Do you guys think I wanna live in a fancy mansion with butlers and maid, only eating with the finest silverware and no elbows on the table? Hell no! I wanna live in a small town where everybody knows me and I know them and I believe that's the way were supposed to live... (Can I get in trouble for adding song lyrics in here?) I wanna fish where I swim and go to small town throwdown and bonfires and watch a couple boys fight in a parking lot where nobody's gonna call the cops. That sounds much more exciting then formal parties you'd go to in a rich family. You gotta where your fancy dresses with white gloves and heels. Fuck that! Where's my boots and flannel shirt and jeans and cowboy hat. I mean, I don't wear cowboy hats but you get what I mean.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy where I am and I probably sound like a hypocrite saying I wanna know everybody in my town but never wanting to go outside. But it seriously sounds like the life. Plus in my town there's a bunch of people doing... Candies?

A small town everyone is nice and appreciate shit. Also, I need to seriously toughen up and work more. Yard work and stuff. I needs money.

Okay, but back on track. I was bullied. I was. For what seems like the stupidest reason. To me that's like bullying someone for who their parents are because well, I got my love for the music from my dad. I follow more in my dad's footsteps because he's my hero. I love my parents equally but I share more interests with my dad. While my mom and sister are listening to Lizzo or whoevers popular right now. Me and dad are relaxing with some Kenny Chesney and Willie Nelson.

Also, I'm not saying country is the only genre I listen to. I'm interested in others too and have gone and explores others. Some of my favorites, 60's country, 70's, some 80's, jazz and instrumental. Some rock too. I'm not exactly with the times when it comes to music but what makes me happy is what makes me happy. And what right do you have to judge me for my happiness?

Moral of the story. Don't let others bully you for your interests, especially if it's what makes you happy. I know, I know, easier said then done and if you feel you can't do it alone, ask for help from parents, friends, teachers, family. And I get it, some people don't have that option because they aren't really cared for much but if that's the case it's even more a reason to fight for it. It's Your happiness and you can't let anyone take it from you!

I'm no therapist but if anyone needs to talk, I'm open.
