i do think there needs to be a conversation about how hostile the rest of tumblr is to mcytblr. it's completely unfounded, particularly vitriolic, and kinda hypocritical considering that people on this site claim to be accepting of the 'weird'? what happened to that? what happened to critical thinking and staying informed?

it's genuinely a bit frustrating that people have so much hatred towards this general fandom when it literally is just a normal fandom that happens to have a lot of people in it. i have been in a bunch of fandoms before and the variety and nature of the people in it is always the same. people seem to just assume mcyt is malicious somehow...?

one of the reasons i didn't accept being trans sooner is because i'd look at the cishet men i know and at how they treat women in their lives, at how fucking vile they can get and how casual they are about being blatantly misogynistic, how there are usually absolutely no repercussions for any of it, and i'd think to myself "if this is what being a man is about then i don't want to be one". eventually i'd figure out that no, this isn't what being a man is about, it's just something a lot of them perpetuate, it's not inherent, you don't have to be That. so seeing other trans men who, generally speaking, should've had somewhat similar experiences, come out of it on the opposite end where they gleefully grab onto transmisogyny and have fun with it and feel justified and righteous perpetuating it is fucking baffling

Hey guys. I've never made a post like this before, but there's a new scam going around that I haven't heard anything about, and I don't really feel comfortable keeping quiet about it.

I know there's warnings going around about not donating to particularly suspicious charities, but PLEASE be careful of people popping into your inbox asking to promote their charity posts!!

I decided to give this stranger the benefit of the doubt at first, and went looking on their page for the post they had mentioned. Their blog seemed incredibly normal too! Banner, icon, normal header text. Even their blog title coincided with their request (the supposed cat's name is Bacon)

The post is pretty long (to help obscure the suspiciousness, I reckon), and with some pretty sad imagery of an actually ill cat to boot (which I won't show here), but they slipped up with their last sentence.

NEVER send a paypal payment as friends/family to ANYONE who you don't know!! I feel like that's not something I would have to tell you, but just to cover all my bases I'm going to say it anyways. Friends/family payments through paypal are NON-REFUNDABLE! Scammers will frequently request for you to send them money in this way so that there's no way you can argue a case or ask for it back!

I'll admit, though, even after this smoking gun, I was still nervous to even write this post. I second guess myself a lot, and was nervous that maybe I was just jumping to conclusions. But if that wasn't enough evidence, the fact that there were only a handful of assorted 'fandom' posts on the blog- all of them reblogged within a 5 minute window to each other- was what cemented for me that this is NOT a real person. They don't even have a browsable archive! THAT'S how few posts they have!

It really sickens me how low some people will stoop to try to abuse people's charity. Always stay alert! Even if I hadn't donated myself, if I hadn't seen the signs I may have used my pre-established trust to convince someone else to give away their money in my stead!

Keep on the lookout for red flags! In the same way spam bots are evolving to grow more discrete, I don't doubt scammers like these will be soon to follow!

fuck it I've had enough. I had an intro to cultural anthropology class a semester ago, but looking at recent bullshit in Florida, I have a few things to say:

I'm sick of people treating culture like it's some chunk of earth.

It's neither something you can wage war on nor fight for. It is not a finite amount of substances that is adulterated with new introductions. It isn't something precious in the same way a piece of jewelry or what have you; not preserved safe by being put in a locked box. Cultures are not the current models of bludgeon that groups of people impose upon others. One's culture, in total, is not an "immovable cornerstone" of anything made by humans. It is not in any way like stone.

It did not exist before there were people to possess it. A culture is something we've created amongst each other. In short, it is a conversation. one of beliefs, institutions, and knowledge; spoken by the beliefs and actions of it's participants. It is a conversation that you have a voice in too.

If you forget anything I say before or since, please do not forget that.
