FOTD #077 : purple fairy club! (alloclavaria purpurea)

the purple fairy club (AKA purple coral) is a coral fungus from the family repetobasidiaceae. it has mainly been found in spruce-fir forests :-)

the big question : can i bite it?? yes !! this fungus is edible, but insubstantial.

a. purpurea description :

"the fruiting body of alloclavaria purpurea is made of numerous slender cylindrical spindles that may grow to a height of 12 centimetres (4+3⁄4 in), with individual spindles being 2–6 millimeters thick. the colour is purple or lavender, although the color fades to tan in older specimens."
