📑 How many drafts do you write on average?

Drafting is something I'm trying to get better about. I tend to edit and chop around as I go, so it looks like multiple tiny drafts of sections. This works brilliantly well for the shorter form stuff I do - up to 5k, but the longer stuff absolutely not. So... maybe it's like, one or two drafts, but this represents huge numbers of edits and changes.

So this question sent me into a SPIRAL because I think you're one of the few people who knows I dabble in original fiction AND fan fiction and then I wasn't sure how much of my fanfic OC stuff you see and then I also remembered we're Bioware-unwell both and so I just tossed a bunch of OCs in the air and saw what fell out.

Anyway, staying in the realm of fandom, here's one I love, I wrote a lot about and I don't think published anything of. I still think about her from time to time.

Marthe Caron - so IDK if she technically counts as an OC, because she's my Orlesian Grey Warden, which is the PC you get when you don't import a character into Dragon Age Awakening. But I'm claiming her anyway because it's not like DAA gives you a whole lot to work with. She's in her late thirties/early forties, two handed warrior and mother of a teen daughter who comes along with her to Amaranthine. After playing DAO with what felt like quite young protagonists, I loved the idea of this older lady being parachuted in by the Wardens after the Hero disappears (in this canon, the Dalish warden fucks off after the final battle, and Alistair has made the ultimate sacrifice for them, so Anora is queen) and having to navigate her way around a Ferelden that's suspicious of her and still reeling from the Blight.

I even commissioned art of her at one point (nine years ago!), with her late-in-life love interest, Garevel (the captain from Awakening, yes).

Since this was nine years ago, and the blog I had is long deleted, and the trail for this is long deleted - I have lost the artist's name, if they're still around on Tumblr. It was I think onemooncircles but there's no legit blog there now - if anyone knows, I'd love to hear!

Want to know about the order in which a water softener and it's components should be installed? It's good knowledge to have if you plan to install a water softener yourself. You'll find all the information you need to know in this residential water softener diagram. 📋 Residential Water Softener Design A conventional salt-based water softener has a two-tank design. Water is softened in the resin tank, and salt is dissolved in water and replenishes the resin from the brine tank. During the ion exchange process, calcium and magnesium ions are exchanged for sodium ions, eliminating hard water. Water softeners are installed as whole home units and are designed to soften water before it enters the hot water heater. How a Water Softener Works 🧰 Main Components Of A Water Softener The main components of a water softener are the brine tank, the resin tank, the control valve (or control head), and the drain line. Brine Tank The brine tank (the smaller, wider tank) contains the water softener salt. Salt is needed for the ion exchange process, so the brine tank should be at least 1/3 full of salt at all times. Salt in the brine tank is dissolved in water, forming a brine solution. This brine is used to replenish the resin during the regeneration process, readying it for water softening. Resin Tank The resin tank (the longer, thinner tank; referred to as the mineral tank by some manufacturers), is where the water softening process takes place. The mineral tank is loaded with a resin bed, which is made from food-grade synthetic plastic (usually a combination of polystyrene and divinylbenzene). Water flows into this tank to be softened. The resin beads are loaded with sodium ions, and some of these are released into the water as calcium and magnesium ions stick to the resin. Control Valve The control valve, or control head, attaches to the top of the water softener mineral tank. This valve is responsible for managing the water softener's performance, and may program the system to perform a regeneration cycle based on the flow of water through the valve or the amount of time that has passed. You can use the buttons or touch screen on the control valve to adjust your water softener's settings, including your water hardness and regeneration frequency. Some control valves have Bluetooth connection that allows you to monitor and control your water softener use from a phone app. 📑 Other Components Of A Water Softener The other parts of a water softener system include the water inlet and outlet, the drain line, the bypass valve, the riser tube, and the brine float valve. Water Inlet & Outlet The water inlet and outlet are the pipes that send water into and out of the softener. Water from your incoming water supply travels through the water inlet and into the softening tank. Soft water leaves the tank from the outlet pipe. This happens at a constant rate, with water flowing in and out of the softener, when a faucet or appliance is in use in your home, providing a consistent soft water supply whenever it's needed. Drain Line The drain line or drain hose sends wastewater out of the softener through a drain pipe during a complete backwash cycle. The drain water may be sent into one of several types of drains, including a floor drain, a laundry tray, or a properly trapped special outlet. There are actually two drain tubes in a water softener: one section of drain tubing is attached to the control valve and deals with the discharge wastewater; and the other drain serves as an overflow drain and is used in emergencies if the brine tank overflows. Bypass Valve The bypass valve is a built-in valve that lets you divert water away from the softener during maintenance or repairs. You can adjust the valve by twisting a knob or a lever. When the bypass position is in service position, water will flow into the softener. When the valve is engaged, it'll send water away from the softener. Your plumbing will be supplied with untreated water, not softened water, until you put the softener back in service mode. Riser Tube & Basket The riser tube and basket are located inside the resin tank, running vertically down the middle. You don't need to worry about these parts when you install a water softener because the resin tank will be pre-loaded and ready to go. But if you ever need to replace the resin, you'll probably need to replace the riser tube and basket too. Brine Float Valve The brine float valve is one of the safety features of a water softener. Located in the salt tank, the float valve (or safety float) prevents water from overflowing out of the tank by shutting off the system if too much water is added. Additional Parts & Accessories There are a few other parts and accessories that you'll find in a water softener, including the valves, fittings, adapters, tubing, salt grid plate, air check, and injector. Most of these parts are essential in any water softener, but some, like the adapters, may only be needed for certain plumbing setups. 🆙 Optional Add-Ons For A Water Softener There are a few optional add-ons that you might consider buying alongside a water softener: Sediment Filters Most water softeners come with included sediment pre-filters, but they're an optional component that you may or may not need. A typical water softener sediment pre-filter traps large particles in a filter cartridge, preventing them from getting into the softener and damaging the resin. If you have a private well water supply or you just want to maintain your softener's performance for as long as possible, we recommend installing (and replacing when necessary) a sediment filter upstream of your softener. Whole Home Water Filtration System Water softeners tackle one of the biggest water quality issues: hard water. But they're not designed to filter your water, improve its safety or health properties, or make it taste better. You might want to buy a whole home water filtration system to install alongside your softening system at the main water supply line. Hiyoshi scowled, eyes narrowed at the desk he sat at. Since Valentine’s day was tomorrow, everyone at Hyotei was going crazy – well, more so than usual. The girls in particular. Even though the day of love had not yet arrived, Hiyoshi was still finding letters and sweet treats at his desk, his locker, and even in his bag. As if that wasn’t bad enough, someone was going around placing heart stickers everywhere on campus. The most annoying part? They all had ‘Atoyoshi’ written on them.

Ever since the hearts started to appear, girls squealed every time he and Atobe even entered the same room. Although Hiyoshi typically got attention for being a regular, it was never so much that he couldn’t concentrate on school or practice. Until now.

He was honestly losing his mind.

“I heard that Hiyoshi-kun and Atobe-sama make out before and after practice in the locker room.” One girl whispered.

“What? No way.”

“It’s true! One of Atobe-sama’s fan club members saw them!”

“Oh my god.”

Choutarou could see the growing frustration within his friend, but he had no clue how to handle the situation.

Hiyoshi suddenly stood, chair scraping across the floor as he slammed his palms on the desk. “I don’t feel well, I’m going home.”

“Hiyoshi, wait…” Choutarou called out, but the male had already exited the room, leaving behind an awkward silence. He wasn’t the type to skip school so his classmates were left speechless.

The two gossiping girls exchanged a look, suddenly feeling guilty.

Feeling annoyed at the world, Hiyoshi sent a message to the only person that could calm him down: you.

Being a security guard at a high school wasn’t the most exciting job in the world, but it paid your bills so it was worth it. You were in the middle of patrolling the halls of Rikkaidai’s high school division when your phone buzzed. Hiyoshi was the last person you expected to be messaging you at this time. His first class of the day should have just started.

✉ ‘Can you leave work?’

Furrowing your brow in concern, you quickly typed a reply, ‘Why, what’s wrong?’

✉ ‘Don’t force yourself. I’m going to your apartment.’

You frowned, ‘I’ll be there soon.’

After informing the principle that an emergency had come up and that you needed to leave, you hopped into your car and made the nearly hour-long drive back to Tokyo. Your friends had said on more than one occasion that you were crazy driving an hour to and from work each day, but your current apartment was much cheaper than anything you could find in Kanagawa. More importantly, you couldn’t bring yourself to move away from Hiyoshi.

Since you had quite the lead foot, you managed to make it home in about forty minutes.

Unlocking the door, you stepped inside your quiet apartment. Hiyoshi’s bag was sitting on the end of the couch, but the high schooler was nowhere to be found. Heading down the hall, you heard the water running in the bathroom.

“Wakashi?” You called, pushing the door open. The boy in question was standing in the shower, sending a death glare at the heart-shaped soap you owned. “Wakashi?” You called again, finally gaining his attention. “What’s wrong?”

His eyes softened when he looked over at you, but his scowl remained. “I thought you didn’t celebrate Valentine’s… why do you have this?” He picked up the soap, showing it to you.

You raised a brow. He had referred to the soap like you were cheating on him with it. “Maya bought those for all of her friends and family.”

As bad as he wanted to chuck it into the trash, he simply scoffed and put it back where he found it, choosing to use the body wash instead.

You frowned, folding your arms as you leaned back against the door. “You’ve never called me out of work before.”

Hiyoshi paused, sending you an apologetic look. “Sorry… you didn’t have to leave.”

“Of course I did. You’re more important than work.”

His cheeks dusted pink, but you didn’t notice. “I’ll tell you when I get out of the shower… okay?”

“Sure,” you gave him a soft smile before stepping out into the hallway and back into the living room where you fell onto the couch with a yawn, feet propped up on the table. It had been a long time since you had a day off, and you were going to enjoy it.

Several minutes passed before Hiyoshi entered the room, fully dressed with a towel covering his damp hair. He sat down beside you with a heavy sigh, dropping his head onto your shoulder. The towel blocked most of the moisture from reaching your shirt.

“Today was horrible,” he muttered.

“It must’ve been for you to walk out.” You hummed, bringing his hand into your own. “The only time that I can recall that you’ve missed school was when you were bed-ridden with the flu. Tell me what’s going on, love.”

“Someone has been spreading rumors around the school…”

“What about?”

“…me and Atobe.”

You couldn’t hold back your snicker. “High school girls and their fantasies. I know it’s frustrating, but give it a couple days and they will be gossiping about someone or something else.”

“I doubt it.” He scoffed, his hand tightening around yours. “Whoever is spreading the rumors has been placing heart stickers all over the school with ‘Atoyoshi’ written on them. It’ll take months to find and remove them all.”

“Hmm, so this girl views Atobe as the seme, then. Makes sense.”

“…what?”

“Nothing, nothing.” You patted his thigh. “That explains why you were glaring at my soap.”

“If I never see a heart again, it’ll be too soon.”

“Damn, guess I have to take my gift back, then.”

“You got me a gift?” He looked at you in surprise, his cheeks turning pink.

You noticed it this time and smiled, ruffling his hair. “Did you really think I wouldn’t?” You stood up and disappeared down the hall. Moments later, you returned with your hands behind your back. “It took me a while to find one that didn’t cost a fortune.”

You held out a box. On top was a heart-shaped red box of chocolates, the lid having two cats lying in a way that their bodies also formed a heart shape. A purple bow attached the box to a hardcover book from 1950.

Hiyoshi gently took the gift into his hands, feeling his heart rate increase. “How long did it take you to find this book?”

You reclaimed your seat beside him. “I actually planned on giving it to you last year, but finding a hardcover edition translated into Japanese that didn’t cost an arm and a leg was a bit tougher than I expected.” You rubbed the back of your head sheepishly. “Don’t feel obligated to keep the box. The chocolates are all heart-shaped, too…”

“No, these are different. Thank you, Y/N.” He set the gift down on the table before leaning over you and bringing you into a deep kiss. As long as they were from you, he didn’t mind seeing a few more hearts.

Spring is finally here.🌱🌷 As a kid I learned March 4th is the only date that is also a command. A lot of marching forth has been happening on the other side of the world.🌏 know we all hope & pray it will come to an end soon.💛💙🇺🇦🕊️ Last Wednesday was a beautiful, sunny Seattle day 🌞. I was behind several cars at a stop light on my way to a meeting🚦 when suddenly I felt a jolt! 💥 It wasn’t like when a car creeps forward because you’ve taken your foot off the break—it was forceful. No one was hurt but my car was damaged.🤦 I don’t know how many of you drive or have been in a car wreck,🚗 but I’ve had 3 accidents in 46 years—none were my fault. I couldn’t recall what to do except exchange insurance information💳. Then what? I called my agent & let her know what happened☎️. She told me to call the other company. It's a pain dealing with the aftermath of a collision. Though not my fault, I’ll be spending weeks dealing with it⏳. Also, insurance companies aren’t fun. Some of the people are nice👩‍🦳, but it’s their job to spend as little time & money 💸 as possible. They don’t care if the car was in perfect condition🚘. They’re inclined to repair it as cheaply as they can. The driver’s agent sent me a link🔗 with specific instructions about how to take photos of the damage📱🤳. I was wondering why I should do their work for them? Besides, I’d already taken my car to 2 shops, & one shot a dozen photos before writing up an estimate📑. It’ll be weeks before I can get scheduled🗓️. My car is drivable, so it could’ve been much worse. Articles say mechanics & car repair techs are in demand🛠️ because more people are fixing their cars instead of buying new ones🚙. The young woman who hit my car wrote me a nice apology email📧. It was an unexpected gesture that I appreciated. Have you ever been in a car accident, or caused one? If so, I hope no one was seriously injured.
