I hate randomly blocking people that follow me for no reason other than “what they draw makes me uncomfortable” because it illustrates a fundamental misunderstanding of MY SCRIMBLO (/lh). I understand it’s simply conjecture, but people who highlight that part of his light novel (a part that was revealed to be a dream and not close to canonicity) bother me a lot.
#in short… I hate the Pol//aris P Po//lanski shit#14 year old D//GR fans will be like ‘I know so much about Byakuya 🥺🥺 I read a brief synopsis of his light novel and completely -#misinterpretated this whole plot point and the majority of his quotes!!’#if you didn’t know: in the light novel he has to cross dress to get into the Legacy Crown Championship#(which decides who is head male - and who gets exhiled)#but if you BOTHERED to read the ending of the dubiously canon novel and his CANON LINES you would know that the plot is actually all in -#-Bl//ue Ink’s head (his step sister who ‘documents’ his legacy as he thinks he is destined to win)#- false memories. I can’t EXACTLY remember why but it was only a dubious recollection of actual events — and in-game and in the novel -#-Byakuya is recognised as#- one of the 15 ‘gold rank’ Tog//ami siblings and therefore never needed to cross-dress to get into the race in the first place#also the book is just hella confusing and awfully gruesome LMAO#but the drawing had his disguise in glasses when Pol//aris wore contacts!! because in the novel Byakuya states he finds glasses unappealing-#-on a woman. though fashionable for himself as a man (thanks ‘Kuya… I have 20/20 vision and I still hate that).#so yeah I was mega uncomfortable for no reason I’m just pedantic and I hate the fandom (for the most part)#I love you guys though LMAO#sorry I sounded like a gatekeeper LOL#I’ve ran into like… 3 more wives of Byakuya and I do actually really like their content and was okay with them but I didn’t interact beyond-#- a cursory glance because I don’t want to risk myself being uncomfortable or anyone else. I only have a lot of warnings because there are -#-fringe cases I really hate. so I have to use umbrella terms.#(so I am not THAT BAD. but I can be especially with the non-canon Pola//ris stuff and blatant misinterpretation#I FEEL SO MEAN.#not good for business.

The Remnants having gaps in their memories and not knowing about the first killing game.
Or that they were played apart in its creation.
And the survivors don't want to tell them. Even when their own greif is so apparent.
Ibuki asks if Makoto likes sleepovers because whenever someone tries to find him at night, he's never in his room.
Makoto nods with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes.
Hajime asks if the former Headmaster is still around, Kyoko says he's gone but refuses to explain or elaborate.
He doesn't ask her again, because even with the cold facade she looked seconds away from tears.
Asahina sees Peko sparr and comments she reminds her of another girl who fought so well.
Peko says she hopes to sparr with her one day. Asahina pauses but nods with a sad smile "I think she'd liked that."
Twogami asks about a story Toko's writing, noting that it differs from her usual work. She hesitates for a good while.
Before simply saying "as much as I hate to admit it, he had some good ideas... They shouldn't go to waste."
Sonia recognises her upbringing in Byakuya and asks if he is of royalty too. Or was, given everything... Byakuya nods slowly "something like that."
Hagakure refuses to explain why he prefers to go by Hiro or Hagakure, but never Yasuhiro.
When Fuyuhiko asks why, he shrugs and says it doesn't vibe with him anymore "doesn't feel right to use" but he never says why.
Not to mention that there's always an extra dish or more set at the table.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐓'𝐒 𝐆𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐋 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐘𝐀𝐊𝐔𝐘𝐀 𝐊𝐔𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐈
upon entry of the vampire, the graveyard's colour could only give the impression of an uneasy eeriness — for the next grave lies the body of a stoic man, once a respected warrior. his spirit still lingers on, attached strings cut off from a woman he once loved.
BYAKUYA X FEMALE! READER 🎬 tw: mild gore + stalking. A/N — the second piece. hisana is out of the story. byakuya is a spirit in bleach, but there is no soul society here. only a dead warrior mourning for the lost of his loved one's soul.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the cries of the bravest warrior and the will to not give up pierced the enemy's hearts. their arrows and blades running through the organ before the enemy warriors breathed their last breathe.
war it was, a fierce battle between two regions, unable to come together with peace but twisted into war that would end thousands of lives instead. in those thousands of war lies the death of a great warrior, kuchiki byakuya.
a powerful man that lead a squad in the war, fighting for his region and leading hundreds that aspire to be like him.
what would those brave warriors of him think if they found out that their captain's body has been taken by the enemy army and experimented on to turn into something much more painful than death?
an eternally living ghoul that feasts on the rotting corpse of his own comrades for dinner. the first person unknowingly being his wife, another warrior from another squad.
a strong and powerful man that was transformed into a flesh-eating monster that was fed his own wife as his first meal after hellish experiments. byakuya's mind twisted and turned at the sight of y/n, half a nerve still recognising who she is. but as for every other cells in his body, they were all infected by poison and experimented chemicals.
so he feasted on y/n's rotting body, one part of his heart stinging on and on as he ate the flesh of his own unbreathing wife— her e/c eyes emptily staring at him. then, the enemy army set him free into the night for a monster they have created.
everytime you walk alone at night, you swore to the heavens above that a lost and broken soul follows you quite closely behind. you couldn't quite grasp it or understand anything at all, but there was a familiar feeling about the broken soul.
how so?
byakuya knew it was a gift, his gift, that the wife he feasted on has been reincarnated. he caught a glimpse of you one night as you walked home with your friends after a karaoke session, and his eyes never left you ever since. there are flowers in his eyes, flowers that he used to see his wife all those centuries ago before the great war.
your smile just lights up his dark days in an instant. he just knew that it was his wife that was reincarnated as you. and when your friends called out your name, he couldn't help but had the intense urge to just embrace you in a hug.
but in that form?
a flesh-eating ghoul?
no.
your eyes gave byakuya some sense of humanity again. thus he twisted that sense into his strongest feeling. he would not approach you. he would protect you from the shadows.
every night and day, byakuya's spiriting ghoul would watch you live on, each and everything that you do reminding him of his dead wife over and over again.
this is byakuya's umpteenth time of keeping women in his eyes, feasting on them later on.

Think I could ask what you think of Logan’s character and where you think his character arc will go (or at least, where you’d like to see it go in the series)? Honestly I’m just interested in hearing you talk about him
I found this rlly far down my drafts. Somehow. Idk how it got there. But at least I don't have to rewrite the entire beginning 🧡
NOTE: I have Aphasia. It's a language disorder that affects my ability to understand and use language and it affects me both within writing and speaking. This is going to be a little incomprehensible and all over the place, but be nicies to me and feel free to ask for clarification.
This is more of a ramble, than a nice and neat analysis.
Everyone is allowed to add on :3c
ALSO SORRY TO ANYONE TAGGED</3 You're most likely tagged because I was quoting/linking a post by you.
OK. LET'S TALK ABT LOGAN (FT MY BAD SCREENSHOTS):
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of Logan Sanders from the Sanders Sides episode "My True Identity!" He is smiling at the camera and making finger guns. /end ID]
This might be incomprehensible I love logan sanders. So much. Its so hard to put into words i jsut love him OK. He is perfect in every day & also a little nerd. & Beautiful. & handsome. & my babygirl.
I feel like a lot of fans treat him as if he is... like any other glasses wearing character in fiction. Byakuya Togami is the first to pop into my mind, same with Kusuo Saiki from The Disasterous Life of Saiki K, Freddy Riley from Identity V, Charles Offdensen from Metalocalypse, Kyoya Ootori from Ouran Highschool Hostclub, ETC. THERE'S A LOT OF GLASSES GUYS. (Note: these characters do not completely fit each other, but you get the point.)
The trope of "smart, unemotionless, rude/blunt character wears glasses" is something fans will shove Logan into, but the thing is Logan's character takes this trope and completely snaps it in half and throws it in the trash.
Logan is smart. He is blunt and can be the biggest asshole at times. He is """unemotional""" (stated by him).
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of Logan Sanders from the Sanders Sides episode "Dealing With Intrusive Thoughts". The captions reas, "Everything is okay." /end ID]
But he's also compassionate. He is hopeful. He cares so much for the people around him and he holds so much love in his heart.
This post (link) by @intrulogical probably phrases it way better than I ever could + this post (link) by @nesushii
I think that's what makes Logan such a compelling character. He's not someone who needs to "learn how to feel" (which is an idea in fiction I dislike) (it can become a little ableist), he is someone who does feel and know he feels and feels so much all the time, but he can't express it well due to both the environment around him and how he shows his emotions.
A lot of Logan's asshole actions, I think, are less him actively trying to be rude and more him just struggling really bad.
In Moving On, he is "rude" but it's because he realises his actions were Wrong and he's trying to Fix It. He recognises Virgil's panic attack, how this room is affecting Thomas, and realises that he should have listened to Patton. But because of the affects of Patton's room and Logan's tone and phrasing, he comes off as Mean. He becomes defensive as everyone blows him off and it affects how he's trying to help everyone.
In LNTAO, Logan is confused about the entire situation. He doesn't understand why singing or puppets would help Thomas and, as Logic, it is terrifying to not Know when it's his entire job to know. His confusion turns into defensiveness, and because he already struggles to express his emotions in a way that the other sides like/understand, his confusion (& defensiveness) comes off as anger and purposeful ignorance. Which is why the sides and Thomas treat him the way they do— they're assuming he doesn't want to know. Which is entirely untrue!
I know I've talked so much already about how Logan is unintentionally autistic coded (I'm even writing an entire essay about it), but like... HE IS SO AUTISTIC CODED!!
This character that struggles with expressing himself. Who lives in an environment where he feels like he has to exist a certain way, or else he won't be accepted. Who doesn't understand tone or sarcasm or the "big picture". Who struggles with other people viewing him as some sort of unemotionless ""monster"", bexause they don't understand him. Who wants to be heard and understood.
In DWIT, he feels like he's finally doing something right. That he's on the right path. And then it immediately get snatched away in POF and then again in WTIT. And that's such an inherently autistic experience. You feel like you're masking right, you're fitting in, people are accepting and loving you— only to act "too autistic" and the false comfort you wanted is snatched away (a little more complex and nuanced than that, but you know).
He is... So Autistic and it HURTS. (He could also be viewed as neurodivergent in general— I can relate to him outside of autism, with my schizophrenia and speech impediment.)
I also relate to him heavily as a child abuse victim. I've brought it up a few times, but I haven't been able to express entirely what I mean by calling him "child abuse coded" (WHICH IS A PHRASE I KEEP GIGGLING AT).
Logan's entire situation with anger feels so... similar to my own anger issues and trauma. The way he will get so angry and explode only to calm down and realise his actions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two screenshots of Logan Sanders from the Sanders Sides episode "Working Through Intrusive Thoughts". In image one, he is pointing at someone out of frame and looking down at the floor with a confused expression. In image two, he has a hand on his tie and looks upset. /end ID]
Hurting those around you because you're hurting is something I feel like most, if not all, abuse victims struggle with. And especially with child abuse victims, I personally always feel on edge. Like I have to defend my actions 24/7 and I need to express myself perfectly or else no one will understand and I will "get in trouble" and "punished".
It reminds me so much of Logan. After he gets angry and explodes (partially due to the Orange Side, based on how the series is being shown), he immediately is confused and shameful and scared.
Logan is scared and ashamed of his own actions and is trying so hard to fix himself and not be that, not be an angry aggressive person. But it's not as simple and apologising and moving on and it's definitely much harder when those around you will not let you / don't understand fully.
ANYWAY Logan's character means so much to me as an autistic, abused guy. //slaps Logan// this guy can hold SO much trauma!
This post (link) by @orbmanson7 I think puts some of my thoughts into better words about Logan's anger and boundaries and everything (which also helps us segway into talking about his arc)
The thing with Logan's arc is that it's a little more complex than just "Logan wants to be listened to". All of the sides want to be listened to, that's the entire point of them. They all want to help Thomas.
It's not only that Logan wants to be listened to and isn't, it's also that Logan is actively listening to critiques and trying to fix and change. He is hearing and seeing that something he is doing is not helpful and is upsetting people. He wants to fix it and change and improve. But no matter what he does, nothing seems to "fix the issue"— Thomas still will not listen to him.
Logan has to unlearn this idea that he needs to constantly be improving himself, that he has to act a certain way, in order for someone to listen and understand him (AGAIN. WHY I RELATE TO HIM AS A ABUSE VICTIM). AND, the sides need to be actively changing how they are treating him. Because him unlearning this won't immediately fix the issue if the sides aren't working too.
The situation can't be fixed with a simple promise of "we will listen to you, Logan", because they've been doing that the entire series.
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of Logan Sanders from the Sanders Sides episode "Working Through Intrusive Thoughts". He is holding a notebook near his chest and looks dejected. The captions read, "Another day, Logan, I promise." /end ID]
ALSO, this doesn't fall completely on the other sides. Logan still needs to work on letting himself express things and learning how to cope with his strong, intense emotions like his anger. He's lashing out at the other sides and that's not okay. He can't hurt the people he cares about because he's angry and upset (see the ending of POF before Janus reveals his name).
Which... is one of the reasons I really do not want his anger to be "caused by" the orange side. I want this to be something he is experiencing and going through, because if it's "oooh a dark side is controlling him!!" then it won't be a "Logan issue", it'll be a "dark side issue". Which is not what he OR the viewers need.
Logan needs to overcome and cope with his issues without someone inserting themselves into his arc. The more people are thrown into the mix, the more the attention is drawn away from Logan, and I think his arc is something that desperately needs to be told and focused on.
And NO . I am not a fan of "Logan is the Orange Side" theories. There's a million reasons why that's not true if you actually watch and pay attention to the series (it's a very fun AU, but falls apart in context of the actual series). (Plus I don't want him to stop being indigo.......)
I also don't want Logan's arc to end up with him "turning into a dark side" for a MULTITUDE of reasons:
The "dark sides" aren't like... an actual, genuine thing...? It's not something you can ""become"", it's something you are forced into. It is a term created by Roman to describe sides that Thomas views as inherently bad or evil. The only way for Logan to ""become"" a "dark side" is if someone, in an episode, verbally, called Logan a "dark side".
Obviously, Logan can be treated like a "dark" side. In fact, how he is being treated in the series is very similar to how Virgil was treated in seasonn 1 or how Janus is being treated, ETC. BUT I don't want him to be called a "dark side", because I feel like that brings up an entirely new conflict? Now it's not focused on them ignoring Logan, it's focused on "Logic is evil?" "Thomas views Logic as bad?".
I'm struggling really hard to explain, but I feel like it just layers the conflict and I don't want that. I don't want Logan's arc to include the dark sides in any way. I want it to be focused on him.
(HOWEVER, I don't mind the connection between Logan and the dark sides through their similarities and finding comfort each other because of it. In fact, I love it. But I am not sure how to elaborate on that and how I want their relationships to be, so I skipped over it. If someone asks later, I can try to put it in words. In short, less of the "dark sides" affecting Logan, more Logan affecting the "dark sides"? I don't know if that makes sense.)
Also, I don't trust real-life Thomas to write it well! While he is very good at writing conflict, he sucks at resolving conflict (see: Virgil's reveal as a dark side at the end of DWIT and how it's handled in ATHD). Logan becoming a "dark side" already adds more to his already conflict-filled arc, I don't want to then see it be swept under the rug or handled really badly. Logan deserves a good arc. Don't bite off more than you can chew, or whatever, leave his arc alone. Stop it. Please.
I think that's all I wanted to say?
In short: Logan is full of hope and love and compassion and is so, so autistic coded and has so much trauma. I think his arc is more complex than "not being listened to" and he has to unlearn a lot. I don't want his arc to involve the orange side/him being the orange side, or any of the dark sides, because that brings the attention away from him.

So, I was playing the Lost Agent Arc on BBS on Hard Mode (for the orbs mainly...) and I had a stupid idea...
... which my son fully supported and went further with it...
What if all of that different Reiatsu somehow sticks to Ichigo permanently? Let me explain...
Think My Hero Academia and Avatar.
But instead of Ichigo being able to use the Shinigami that poured their Reiatsu into the sword's powers, it's more like a remnant.
Whenever he goes by the streets of the Seireitei, if people didn't recognise his overflowing reiatsu already, now they feel hints of the others in him.
And the lingering Reiatsu reacts!
Especially towards the Zanpakuto spirits from each donor.
Imagine Byakuya and Ichigo training together. They go to the Sokyoku Hill, because:
1. Memories...
2. They can both go Bankai and no one gets hurt.
Except...
Senbonzakura circles Ichigo leaving Byakuya surprised.
He chalks it up to emotional attachment because, after all, Ichigo is Byakuya's boyfriend...
Except it happens again. This time with Hyorinmaru! Everyone starts commenting something about "Of course Hitsugaya's Zanpakuto also doesn't want to hurt Ichigo! After all Karin could get annoyed at him..."
No one thinks about it for too long.
Until the third time it happens!
Now, Kenpachi's Nozarashi isn't supposed to have any emotional attachment to Ichigo. And just like her wielder, she loves to fight and is bloodthirsty.
So, something's happening.
It takes Mayuri to find out the stronger Reiatsu from the Captains lingered on Ichigo's own Reiatsu and now the Zanpakuto spirits recognise it as a fragment, a remnant of their own selves and refuse to attack the boy, even in training.
By the way @mondengel ... My son was like "Oh you need to tag Mondie on this post!" (it's how we call you at home.)
So, I hope you like it.
It's done @the-winds-of-kushala !

Kubo creates characters and falls in love with them, which is both adorable and frustrating because I do think it leads to other characters being sidelined for the new and shiny youngest child.
My question is — if you could choose the ten characters Kubo focused on in a Bleach re-write, who would they be? Personally, mine would be:
1. Ichigo Kurosaki – I think he's a great main character, and I think no one can quite match his ability to build connections with those who are different from him. I also think he's a good mix of classic shounen & unique character traits that make him both familiar but not tiring.
2. Kisuke Urahara – My other favourite. I think if someone cannot recognise the importance of Urahara in Bleach's narrative, we aren't reading the same manga. When they call him a support character, they really mean the foundation.
3. Momo Hinamori – My other other favourite. My choices are so surprising! I love Momo - I see a lot of similarities between her and Ichigo, except Ichigo's mentor is Urahara, and hers was Aizen. Urahara wanted Ichigo to get stronger, Aizen wanted Momo to be controlled. Both of them are absolutely willing to throw down for their friends, and the only difference is Kubo gives Ichigo the power to do so. I want Momo to have that power too. Also, I think they'd be GREAT friends.
4. Rukia Kuchiki - I wish they'd kept some focus on her and Ichigo's friendship, and the time she spent in the human world. I also think it would have been amazing to see the way she straddles her past in Rukongai with her present as being part of a noble family, and I wish it was acknowledged by others as well.
5. Retsu Unohana - I think this was interesting for me because I feel like she would be initially very removed from the other main characters but it could really allow for the story and world building to move in a different way. She really knows about the old guard and how everything was built, and she'd be a good guide for the other mains on all the things that have gone wrong or right since.
6. Orihime Inoue - She's an interesting character, she's lived alone for so long and I feel like I see these glimpses of her longing for family? I absolutely think some of her crush on Ichigo is because she sees him with his family and just craves being part of that. I'd love to see it emphasised that Orihime's friends ARE her family. Orihime's healing as a response to not being able to save her brother and not wanting to be in that position again.
7. and 8. Hiyori & Shinji Hirako - I can't spell Hiyori's last name off the top of my head. It's my weakness. This is an unpopular opinion but I personally think these two should have gone totally native and have no desire to return to Soul Society. I want a vocal "this is what's fucked about that place brigade". I also kinda want them to be married but you don't know if that was just for tax purposes or what.
9. Byakuya Kuchiki - I always thought he'd be more of a main character, and I think he and Ichigo are so different in their upbringing and personalities that they SHOULD interact more and have that be showcased and they should have storylines that are symbolic of that.
10. Yuzu Kurosaki - I just feel bad about how much this girl is left out, I'd actually love for her storyline to initially be her putting together what's happening to her brother even as so much of that world is closed to her, to us finding out WHY her spiritual awareness is so weak despite having like NO actual mundane human blood. I also think her and Ichigo's relationship is so so sweet. He's obviously her favourite.

Before Byakuya Togami learned to read, he would tug on his butler’s trouser leg until Aloysius brought him to his mansion’s library. Behind the carved wooden door, books upon books filled Byakuya’s vision. Some sat low enough for his toddler hands to grab. Others soared high on shelves only ladders could reach. Once Aloysius had found a book that Byakuya didn’t throw to the floor, they would sit together on a sofa bench and Byakuya would point at the words he wanted Aloysius to read aloud.
Hope’s Peak’s library wasn’t as big as the one in his childhood home, but it sufficed. The recently opened library in the east quarter of campus spanned two floors, stitched together by winding staircases. As Byakuya emerged into the library, he scanned his surroundings and found it almost vacant of people.
Perfect. Byakuya liked to spend evenings here, and he liked to do so undisturbed. Despite the darkening sky visible through the window wall, the interior shone metallic silver. Optimal reading conditions. He grabbed a book from the crime section and sat down at one of the many tables dotted around. For the next several hours, he intended to read in peace and quiet.
“This is for you.”
Not even ten minutes could have passed. Immediately recognising the voice, Byakuya grimaced and looked up. Touko Fukawa stood by his table. His eyes lowered from her pink face to the dark green box in her grubby hands.
“What is that?” he asked, though he already knew because today was the fourteenth of February. Valentine’s Day.
It was also why the library was especially empty. Everyone else was either on a romantic date or partying with their friends. Sayaka Maizono organised a gathering for the girls in their class, which he knew because Touko loudly declined the invitation in their classroom a few days ago. And he also knew most of the guys planned to eavesdrop on said party, spearheaded by Leon, Yasuhiro and Hifumi. For ‘Man’s Greatest Ambition’, for free chocolate and to fit in in that order. Fools.
Byakuya didn’t need to concern himself with that sort of uncouth thing. His sperm would one day be sent off and used to artificially inseminate women from around the globe, all appraised and deemed to be of exemplary quality. Then he would be coupled with the mother of whoever was chosen to be his heir. Even then, that would only be for appearances. His parents hadn’t been in the same continent since he was selected to be his father’s heir.
Which meant Touko, standing there with her hunched shoulders and messy braids, was doomed the moment the plan first sprouted in her barren brain.
“They’re chocolates,” she said.
Irritation pinched between his brows. “What possessed you to blight my eyesight with that monstrosity?”
“I...” Touko faltered.
He pointed at the box. “Throw it in the garbage immediately.”
“B-But...!”
“Can you not follow a simple order? Let me make it even simpler: leave.”
Touko shifted her weight between feet, gripping the box tightly like she thought it might fly away. Byakuya pushed up his glasses and returned his gaze to the book. A few moments later, he heard her footsteps retreat, growing quieter and quieter until he could hear her no more.
After her departure, the only sounds were the buzz of the library lighting and flutter of paper as he turned the pages. As he trudged through stilted prose. Unclear metaphors. Paragraphs describing women’s anatomy by someone who knew even less about them than Hifumi Yamada.
By the end of the first quarter, he no longer cared if the murderer was the victim’s wife or a fellow board member. It was probably the butler, anyway. Byakuya shut the book, intending to seek out another, only to freeze when he saw a certain object on the table.
The box of chocolates that Touko should have taken with her.
His teeth gritted together. What a hopeless girl. Now he would have to go out of his way to dispose of them. Before enrolling at Hope’s Peak, whenever a classmate gave him chocolates, he would pass them along to his staff who would whisk them away to be tossed into the trash. When he became the sole heir, his father took him on a tour of the Togami Waste Disposal Centre. One section was dedicated to the destruction of frivolous gifts.
He remembered his father placing a hand onto his young teenage shoulder as conveyor belts chugged and machinery clunked.
“Why do you think we do this?” his father had said as a machine hacked apart a neatly wrapped box. It chewed and snarled before regurgitating cardboard vomit into a waste bin, chocolate chunks like teeth mixed in the refuse.
“In case they’re laced with poison?” had been Byakuya’s response.
“That’s one reason. But even if we were sure they are regular chocolate, they still need getting rid of. Love is like chocolate, Byakuya. It may taste pleasurable, but it’s bad for you. It will rot away your insides. Togamis do not indulge in such weaknesses.”
Young Byakuya had nodded. “Yes, Togami-sama.”
Older Byakuya rose to his feet. Just the sight of the box made his skin crawl. Navy ribbon strangled the forest green foil like a hand around a throat. They weren’t even colours associated with Valentine’s day. The sooner it was obliterated, the better. But he would dispose of it later. After he finished reading everything he wanted to read. He wouldn’t allow Touko’s mistake to alter his plans. While he searched for a better book than the dross he had acquired before, he hoped the box of chocolates would self-combust by the time he returned to the table.
It didn’t, continuing to exist. Byakuya started reading again. Like before, the only sounds to be heard were paper rustling and the overhead lights humming.
Until his stomach rumbled.
No one was around to hear it, yet he still cringed. It was a ghastly, unsophisticated noise. Pursing his lips, he read on, even as his stomach clenched and hardened. He had eaten a light dinner that day. Tonkatsu pork. But that wasn’t his fault because he had wanted to eat quickly so he could return to the library sooner.
Another gurgle escaped his gut. His shoulders squared and he held the book closer to his face. When his stomach rumbled again, he grimaced and lowered the book. And saw the box of chocolates on the table.
No. Absolutely not.
Byakuya almost shoved the open pages into his face, but he wasn’t a baby lacking object permanence. As if he had X-ray vision, he could see the box of chocolates sitting menacingly on the table. Though, he hadn’t actually seen the chocolates themselves. Just the outer wrapping. But there had to be chocolates within it.
His stomach growled. The noise wrung his body’s every nerve. Tightening his grip on the book, he tried to read more, except after a few sentences, he realised he couldn’t recall what he had just read. Shapes resembling words floated in his head before dissolving. He went back and tried reading one line. One single line.
By the time he reached the end of the compound sentence, the beginning had already washed away. A howl heaved his stomach and this time choked out a gasp from his lips. Byakuya slammed down the book and grabbed the box. He wasn’t going to eat them. Death appealed more than allowing a single chocolate to touch his tongue. All he wanted to do was see what they looked like. As soon as he saw how ugly and unappetising they were, he would be turned off immediately.
Byakuya tugged on the ribbon, but the bow’s tight knot wouldn’t loosen. How counterproductive. Surely it made more sense for it to unravel easily so it could be opened quicker. After a few minutes of picking and pinching and pulling, he managed to break into the box. Inside was a spread of milk and dark chocolates, all packed into individual paper cases. Some of the chocolates were round, others square. A few were drizzled in chocolate, and a couple had nuts on them.
How thoughtless of Touko. What if he was allergic to nuts?
He wasn’t, but still.
To his displeasure, looking at the chocolates didn’t make him lose his appetite. His stomach continued to pang. Ache. With a glower, he adjusted his glasses. The chocolates continued existing. He pulled out his pocket watch and checked the time. The cafeteria didn’t shut for another hour, so he had time to grab something edible to eat.
But then he would have to leave the library. And then return. And then resettle. He picked up a round chocolate piece crowned with dark flakes. It would be fine if he only ate one.
Besides, someone might come in and take his book during his absence.
Byakuya popped the chocolate into his mouth. Chewed. Swallowed.
Someone could sneak in and spike his coffee when he was out of the room. And he didn’t want to brew a whole new cup.
Chewed. Swallowed.
Coffee actually paired well with the chocolates. He selected another. Dark, with green shavings. Matcha.
Someone might hear his stomach rumble on the way to the cafeteria.
Chewed. Swallowed. Another.
He might get a cramp in his leg while walking.
With one hand, he held his book, while his other pecked away at the box of chocolates. No two chocolates were the same. Each presented a unique texture, a different taste. Byakuya reached for another chocolate only for his fingers to rustle empty paper cases.
He looked. He had eaten them all.
He had eaten all of the chocolates given to him by Touko Fukawa.
He stared in horror.
***
The next morning, even after he brushed his teeth for ten minutes straight, a sickly film continued to cling to the inside of his mouth. In front of his bathroom mirror, he tried rinsing the taste away with water, then mouthwash, then water again, but the chocolate seemed to have sunk in past his gums, wedged between his teeth and burrowed into the back of his throat.
Coffee didn’t drown the tang either.
Still, he had an entire day to dedicate to dealing with this quandary. A ‘teacher training’ day had been instated, meaning all students had no lessons scheduled until tomorrow. Despite its name, it was actually a ‘recover from the previous day’ day. Many teachers had gone out to a karaoke bar and woke up hungover. One rumour going around claimed Koichi Kizakura spent the night in the same bed as the headmaster.
In any case, the lack of lessons meant Byakuya wouldn’t be forced into close proximity with Touko. He needed to sort out this whole chocolate dilemma before she showed up and made things too bothersome. To achieve this, as pained as he was to admit it, he needed the aid of a certain someone.
Fortunately, this certain someone could often be found in the last places Touko would think to search for Byakuya in. The swimming pool and art room turned out to be a bust, but Byakuya found his soon-to-be assistant in the recreation room with a few of their classmates.
“Naegi, come with me,” said Byakuya, striding over to the pool table.
Makoto, who had just positioned himself to hit the cue ball, hesitated. “I’m kind of in the middle of something.”
“So am I,” said Byakuya.
Kudos to Makoto, however, because Byakuya hadn’t expected him to be playing pool. He had thought Makoto would be hammering away at a video game or smiling goofily over snakes and ladders. Interesting. Later, Byakuya would have to question him on what different game types he knew. See how competent he was at them.
“Well?” said Byakuya when Makoto didn’t move. “I don’t have all day.”
“Um, actually,” Makoto winced, “I think I would rather...”
“If Naegi-kun’s forfeiting, it looks like I win this game,” interrupted Sayaka, a smile pushing out her cheeks. She tilted her head to one side and fluttered her hands together in a dainty round of applause. “Yay, me! Don’t worry, Naegi-kun. We’ll have a rematch when you get back. But don’t think I’ll go easy on you to make you feel better about losing. I’m going to go all out.”
Sayaka puffed out her cheeks. While it made Makoto grin and slightly redden, it made Byakuya’s insides wither. As a Super High School Level Idol, he supposed she had to embody some kind of charm, even if it only worked on people like Makoto. And Leon, who was standing by the pool table too.
“Wow, whatever it is, it sounds important,” said Leon. “You better be a good friend and go with him. I’ll take care of Maizono-chan while you’re gone.”
Leon saluted at Makoto and winked. He had a black eye. Presumably, his plan to spy on the girls’ party hadn’t gone the way he hoped.
“Thanks, but there’s no need to trouble yourself, Kuwata-kun,” said Sayaka as Makoto passed her the cue stick.
“I’m serious. It’s no sweat off my back,” said Leon.
Sayaka’s grin flattened against her face, more polite than genuine. “I mean I don’t think anything bad will happen. We’re all friends here. But I have the cue stick to protect me anyway.”
She demonstrated by thrusting it toward Leon. The tip stopped just before his injured eye, making him jump back with a yelp. A giggle rose out of her, to which Leon joined in with a couple of shaky laughs.
“Are you finished with your triple act now?” asked Byakuya, unamused.
“Yes, sorry,” said Makoto, cringing. “Let’s go.”
As they stepped out into the corridor, a few students breezed past, talking loudly to each other with erratic hand movements. Byakuya watched their backs as they walked away, his arms folded over his chest.
“What is it that you want with me?” asked Makoto.
“Not here,” said Byakuya. None of the students nearby seemed to be paying the pair any attention, but he couldn’t lower his guard. “Wait until we’re alone.”
Neither spoke while Byakuya led Makoto away. With no lessons taking place, finding an empty classroom proved straightforward. Once inside, Byakuya turned to Makoto.
“I need you to talk to Fukawa.”
Makoto frowned. “Why?”
“I need you to find out how much money she spent on the chocolates she gave me yesterday.”
That was simple enough to understand. Yet Makoto said, “You want me to do what, Togami-kun?”
He stared at Byakuya with a stupid look on his face, squinting with raised eyebrows.
“I don’t see what you’re struggling to understand. I wish to know how much money she spent on her chocolates so I can appropriately compensate her.” Byakuya started pacing back and forth. “If I were to buy her something two or three times more expensive, that would be seen as reciprocating her honmei choco. I could just give her nothing... no. Out of the question. Any less than what she gave me would reflect badly on me and the conglomerate.”
“I understand what you said,” Makoto told Byakuya. “Well, maybe not your reasoning, but what you want me to do. But why do I have to ask Fukawa-san where she bought that chocolate from? You’ve never struggled to speak your mind with her before.”
Byakuya came to a stop and brought a hand to the top corner of his glasses. A frown pinched his features.
“You never cease to sink to new levels below my expectations, and they are already incredibly low as it is. If I spoke to her, asking about the chocolates, she would become suspicious of my questioning and figure out I ate them. She’s daft, but she’s not a complete idiot. If you ask her about them, she will not suspect me.”
The situation was not unlike a game of pool. He couldn’t pot the eight-ball too early, much like he couldn’t outright go to Touko and question her about the chocolates. When he next saw her, everything had to be perfectly in place. There was an order that had to be followed.
Makoto glanced away, as if searching for a way out of the conversation, but no one jumped out from under a desk and carried him out of the room. Nor did the door slam open and a teacher march inside. The trees beyond the classroom’s window wall didn’t shed their leaves to reveal assassins hiding in them, guns aimed so they would have to flee the room, ending the conversation. A meteor didn’t smash into the classroom either. Silence hung between them, until Makoto sighed and met Byakuya’s gaze.
“Alright, Togami-kun. I’ll ask her for you.”
“You will invite her to the library and while you question her, I will be listening in nearby,” said Byakuya. “The library has plenty of bookcases for me to hide behind. Once you have extracted the information, I will slip away and prepare the compensation.”
It was a great plan, yet Makoto shook his head slightly. “I really don’t understand how your mind works, Togami-kun, but okay.”
“You don’t need to understand. I know what I’m doing. And I will tell you exactly what to say to her. You have half an hour to memorise this script I wrote.”
Byakuya reached under his jacket and pulled out a stack of paper.
Makoto had the audacity to continue frowning.
***
The irony of Byakuya observing Touko from a behind a bookcase did not go over his head. Many times, Byakuya’s and Touko’s positions had been reversed. However, he always knew she was there. Her smell of wet book never failed to find its way over to him. His ears would twinge at the sounds of her breathing. The back of his neck would prickle. A strange feeling would stir in him. Disgust. It could be nothing else. It would be preposterous to even suggest it was anything else. As if he would want her drooling, red-faced, snivelling person near him.
She was none-the-wiser to his presence on this occasion. Engrossed in a book. With more stacked up on either side of her. From his angle, he couldn’t see any of the titles, but they were all pretty thick.
“Hi, Fukawa-san,” said Makoto, walking up to her table.
On the script Byakuya had written for Makoto, he had put ‘hello’ instead of hi, but he supposed it was fine for Makoto to adapt the language slightly. After all, Byakuya and Makoto were worlds apart. Byakuya was still learning about how commoners functioned. How they walked. How they spoke. How they thought.
Touko looked up.
“What do you want?” she asked coldly.
“I, um, wanted to see how you were doing.” Makoto pulled out a chair and sat down opposite her. “Did you enjoy Valentine’s Day yesterday?”
She set her book down. “You think you’re real smart, don’t you? I can see right through your charade.”
“Y-You can?” said Makoto, his head jerking back. Byakuya narrowed his eyes but otherwise didn’t move.
“You think you know what my answer will be, and it’s one that amuses you. You want me to indulge your humiliation kink by asking me that question,” she sneered.
Perfect. Byakuya smirked. He had anticipated that sort of response.
Makoto waved his hands and spluttered convincingly, “N-No! That’s not it at all. I came here because I wanted to check out the comic section and happened to see you as I was passing by.”
The script had actually called for ‘wanted to read generic lowbrow manga that commoners like me enjoy’.
She didn’t answer right away. “Sure.”
Though Byakuya couldn’t see her face, she didn’t sound convinced. Makoto shifted in his seat and looked down, twiddling his thumbs. Perhaps Makoto hadn’t been the best choice. The guy was a terrible liar.
“... If you must know,” said Touko after an uncomfortable silence, “I got some writing done and gave Byakuya-sama chocolate.”
Touko spoke in a low voice and didn’t shriek or laugh when she said Byakuya’s name like she usually did. Nor did she pant or hug herself. Byakuya frowned. He had not planned for that reaction. She sounded dejected.
“It’s awesome that you gave Togami-kun some chocolate,” said Makoto. “Did he like it?”
This was her cue to start bragging about how of course he would love her chocolate. She wouldn’t buy him cheap chocolate. Only the finest was acceptable for ‘Byakuya-sama’. Yes, Touko would jump to her feet and spit would fly from her mouth as she passionately rambled about Byakuya and the exact cost of the confectionery.
“I haven’t seen him today, so I don’t know,” she said flatly.
“What chocolates did you get him? I bet you got them somewhere fancy.”
Touko’s shoulders hiked.
“I see what’s happening. Listen.” There was a hard edge to her voice now. “When we first met and you hung out with me a few times, I’ll admit. I thought I may have had feelings for you. But after a while, I realised that I was just happy that a guy had been kind to me and given me attention. It has happened before, with others. Someone would show a bit of interest in me, and I would start fantasising about dating them and getting married and having lots and lots of babies with them.”
Makoto stared silently, wide-eyed and mouth hanging open. Byakuya probably had a similar expression. Minus the open mouth.
“My only friend in elementary school. A boy from a neighbouring class in eighth grade. A literature teacher. A girl in my class at Riverbank. Any crushes I had were quite shallow. None compare to Byakuya-sama.”
As she straightened her back, Byakuya wondered what expression she had on. She was usually extremely expressive, but she had already defied his expectations with her responses to Makoto’s probing. She might have been hiding her emotions behind a blank mask. But it was impossible to hide one’s feelings in their eyes. Her grey pair could have been full of flame and smoke. They could have been biting cold. He couldn’t be certain anymore. Until now, he had thought he had her all sussed out.
Curious. Very curious.
“Byakuya-sama is different. Since we first met, he hasn’t shown me an act of kindness to latch on to.” Touko was trembling now. “He understands how dark and cruel the world can be. He doesn’t put on a mask or trust the masks of others. He didn’t try to deceive me with a good first impression. I’ve never felt the way I do toward him with anyone else, and that includes you. You may be a safe option, but you are not one that I truly want or who will make me feel fulfilled. S-So... I’m declining your offer to be your girlfriend.”
Okay, now Byakuya’s mouth might have fallen open. Makoto licked his lips.
“I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I don’t want to be your girlfriend, Fukawa-san.” He threw up his hands, facing his palms toward her. “No disrespect! You’re not that bad of a person once people get to know you. I just... wondered... ha ha...”
There was taking artistic liberty, and then there was this. Byakuya couldn’t see her face, but her expression made Makoto recoil. Her body shook harder, then she let out an ear-splitting howl that caused several people nearby to jump and spin around to watch. Behind the bookcase, Byakuya gritted his teeth and winced.
Touko’s chair toppled backward as she leaped to her feet. “S-So you did want me to say all that for your humiliation kink! Argh!”
“No! I...!”
She jabbed at the air. “Get out!”
When he didn’t move, she seized a book from the top of one of her stacks and aimed it at him. Makoto yelped and made a hasty retreat before she decided to throw it. After a couple of seconds, she returned the book to its spot. Several minutes crawled past before everyone else had returned to what they had been doing before, browsing bookshelves or murmuring in small groups.
Byakuya hadn’t obtained the information he desired, but staying would only serve to increase the chances of him getting caught. He began edging away, barely breathing.
“He’s gone now, Byakuya-sama,” said Touko calmly. Her voice stopped him in his tracks like a tightened leash.
He froze, then adjusted his glasses, keeping his back to her.
“Fukawa? I didn’t realise you were here,” he said as if she hadn’t screamed a couple of minutes ago.
“There’s no need to play coy, Byakuya-sama.” He could hear the smirk in her voice. She seemed back to her normal self, unfortunately. “I knew you were here the whole time.”
“You did?”
“I can smell you...”
Byakuya stiffened and turned to face her with a glare.
“Are you saying I stink?” he asked. Rich, coming from her.
“Only of pheromones.”
Sometimes she could say profound things. Other times, like now, she spoke like an idiot. However, to give her some credit, an idiot who always had a witty response prepared.
His scowl deepened. “You’re talking nonsense. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I will continue passing through and...”
He pivoted on his heel and took three steps before she said, “How were the chocolates?”
His foot stuck to the floor like glue.
“What chocolates?” he said casually.
“The ones I gave you yesterday.”
“Oh, those.” Byakuya licked his teeth. He had to choose his next words carefully. Thanks to Makoto, he had been left in a bad position in the endgame. He had to play defensively, and make sure he didn’t set her up for a clear final shot.
“I hope they were to your liking. I-It was my first time making chocolate, so I...”
“Wait. What?” His eyebrows rose. “You made them?”
Touko squeaked. Byakuya’s brow scrunched as he turned back toward her. A shudder ran down his spine.
“You made them? What on Earth for?” he snapped. “Did you think I would want to put my mouth anywhere near where your dirty fingers have been?”
Her face clouded over for a moment, probably as some ghastly mental image entered her brain, but she quickly recomposed herself. “I did buy some, originally. Really expensive chocolate. Except the morning before Valentine’s Day, it was all gone. That cursed alter of... um, I mean, that alternate cleaner standing in for the usual one m-must have snuck in and eaten it!”
That sounded very unprofessional. The skin around her eyes bunched up in distress.
“I tore through every shop in the city but it being the day before Valentine’s Day, I couldn’t find a single block of chocolate worthy of titillating your taste buds.”
Being a renowned author, she had to have made a very conscious choice on the words she used. She wrung her hands together.
“S-So... I went to the kitchens and made the chocolate I gave you. That pervert,” Teruteru Hanamura, “aided me. I don’t trust him at all, but Oogami and Asahina happened to be there too making chocolates so they ensured he didn’t attempt anything strange.”
Byakuya wondered how many people Touko had roped into this sick affair. But that explained why he couldn’t find them in his search through different retailers.
“Even though you weren’t going to eat them, they still needed to be perfect,” she carried on.
His brow quirked almost hard enough to split his face. He couldn’t keep the incredibility out of his voice. “You expected me not to eat them?”
She nodded. “Yes. That is correct. You’ve mentioned before that you have your own personal waste disposal crew for valentines.”
“So why go through all that effort if you knew I would toss them away?”
“Because I wanted you to see the effort I was willing to put in, e-even if you wouldn’t eat them. Even if you’re not ready to reciprocate my love... b-because I’ll wait for you.”
Byakuya swallowed. His mouth was very dry. And very very sickly. The chocolate poisoning his mouth must have soured. Or was this the taste of defeat?
She had put him in a bad place. Well, she thought she had. A small smile warmed his lips as he realised she had actually set things up perfectly for him.
“Well, you were mistaken,” he announced. “Because I did eat them.”
Touko slapped a hand to her chest. “Huh?”
“Yes. I ate your honmei choco, Touko Fukawa!” He pointed at her, his grin cutting into his cheeks. “Come along! It’s your turn with the pool cue. What move will you make?”
“Pool cue...?” She blinked.
Byakuya couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome. Now was the time for her to give up on him. To spurn him. To hate him. To think he was like all the others who had drawn her attention. Then she would leave him alone, and she would no longer be blighting his vision or his thoughts. She would be gone.
Instead, she smiled. “Heh... heh heh...”
“... huh?”
“It looks like... in this dark reality... love truly does prevail over all.”
Their conversation had drawn a small audience, but he paid them little attention. Touko wrapped her arms around herself, grinning widely. Byakuya’s face burned. He shifted a foot back, unable to take his eyes off her. She had outplayed him. Gross. She was gross. Disgusting. Repulsive.
“You’re vile,” he said, but that didn’t faze her. Still, if she was daydreaming, she might not notice him leaving. He marched quickly out of the library, not looking back once.
He really didn’t understand her at all.
That was why he spent the rest of the day thinking about her. Her annoying twin braids. Her beady grey eyes. Her stupid smile. Her wet book smell. Her perseverance. Her stupid smile.
Yes.
That was why.

Tell them more about the au we are planning :)
THH Teacher Au📚📝
This AU is mainly ishimondo focused because obviously it is, but it involves (almost) the whole cast of THH! Not all of them are teachers, but they all work together for the same middle-high school.
There’s a lot of fine details I could give away but I’m just gonna start with everyone’s subject!
Sayaka - Former idol, turned performing arts teacher. Her specialty is singing and dance lessons, and she sometimes gets recognised by the younger mothers at parent-teacher conferences.
Leon - The cool music teacher. The students love him because he doesn’t believe in homework, even though he keeping plugging his Soundcloud.
Mukuro - Gym teacher. They also teach martial arts as an extra curricular.
Chihiro - IT teacher. She still works on her programming in her spare time since she doesn’t have a whole lot of grading.
Mondo - Fine art and woodwork teacher. He applied for a gym teacher position. He was unsuccessful.
Taka - Principal! He taught politics and sociology before he was promoted, but took a mysterious leave of absence shortly after. He’s back and Totally Well Adjusted Now :)
Celestia - One of the two characters who are technically not teachers. She works on the school board and often observes classes to judge teachers’ performances. Everyone is terrified of her.
Sakura - Gym teacher. She was pursuing a career in competitive martial arts, but changed her mind for unknown reasons. She stayed in the job after falling in love with another gym teacher.
Hiro - Religious and Spiritual Studies. His teaching style is unorthodox but surprisingly effective! He is also the school guidance counsellor.
Hina - The third gym teacher. She won gold on the Japanese Olympic swim team, and retired to inspire kids to do the same! She stayed in the job after falling in love with another gym teacher.
Toko - Literature teacher. The students adore her work and she hates discussing it with them because they never understand the prose or the characterisation.
Syo - She doesn’t work here. They can’t get her to leave.
Byakuya - Also works on the board with Celestia. The school is owned and funded by the Togami Corporation so he feels it is his responsibility to oversee the day to day events. He is immensely controlling and Taka can’t stand it.
Kyoko - Forensic science and criminology. Her father was a school principal so she’s always had an interest in teaching. She feels it’s a more noble pursuit than her original plan to go into law enforcement.
Makoto - Math and Statistics! He kind of fell into the job, no one can even remember when he was hired, but the staff adore him. He’s great at encouraging students who despair over math.
Junko - Textiles! She’s super passionate about making and designing clothes, and loves putting together outfits for her coworkers. She can be a little bitchy but it comes from a good place. She really does want what’s best for the school!

Tumblr media Tumblr media
A small cry of shock escapes your lips. Upon stepping through the doorway, all eyes in the room turn to you, and as you scan the disorderly crowd, you fail to recognise any familiar faces.
You force your body to get ahold of itself, hastily clearing your throat as you muster the most positive smile that you can given the circumstances.
“... Are all of you new here?” You begin somewhat sheepishly, allowing yourself to get straight to the point as you address the room. “I could use a little help figuring out what’s going on…”
A tall girl sporting long, silvery hair takes a small step towards you at your words, and now that all of the students are focused on you the click of her heel on the dense concrete rings out around the room.
“We all could, honestly.” She looks to you with a carefully composed expression that seems to conceal her true thoughts. As she prepares to speak again, she tucks her hair behind her ear with a gloved hand.
“It appears that we all blacked out upon entering Hope’s Peak Academy and regained consciousness to find ourselves seated at school desks. Can you corroborate this..?”
You can’t help but feel a little relieved at her words. Although it adds a slightly sinister element to the situation, it’s comforting to know that you’re not the only one who feels that there’s something fundamentally off about this ‘first day’.
“Yes.” You speak firmly and politely, withdrawing your hands from your pockets with care. “Yes, that’s precisely what happened to me. I also seem to have lost my belongings- I had a bag on my person that appears to have been taken.”
She raises a steady finger to her chin, eyebrows furrowing as she processes your words.
“Curious..” She mutters in response, her indifferent gaze drifting down to the concrete floor as she ponders.
No sooner had she taken her attention away from you than you found yourself clumsily introducing yourself to the room.
“Oh- hi..!” You start, pulling at the neck of your sweater out of habit. “My name’s (Y/N) (L/N).”
You make quick work of introducing yourself to everyone. The girl with the ashen hair is Kyoko, then Ishimaru, Sayaka, Celestia, Yasuhiro, Aoi- who’d insisted that you call her ‘Hina’, Junko, Mondo, Chihiro, Sakura, Leon, Hifumi…
“... Toko?” You question the timid girl in front of you, awestruck. “Toko Fukawa..?”
The purple hair, the wire-rimmed glasses- yes, you’re certain this is her!
The girl glances back at you, clearly a bit perplexed.
“... Yes,” She begins, eyeing you up in a way that you can’t quite read, “I just told you that, didn’t I..?
You quickly catch yourself, adjusting your shirt collar and clearing your throat.
“Yes, yes of course.” You say with a smile, your eyes closed. “Sorry, it’s just that I’m a massive fan of your works! My personal number one is probably ‘So Lingers the Ocean’- although now that I think about it, I’m not sure if I can really choose just one favourite.”
She looks to you abashedly over her glasses, fiddling with her fingers as if uncertain about what to make of your words. You shift your weight from one foot to the other, anxious about potentially making a bad impression on someone you admire.
"Oh, I'm sorry," You blurt out without even thinking. You try to explain yourself, hoping you don't sound too clumsy. "I know it's a little strange considering that your books are targeted towards women, but I really can't resist a well-written romance novel."
You hold out your hand for her to shake, sending her your most amiable smile when she takes it in hers.
“Nevertheless, it’s great to meet you in person!” You say with a grin, feeling thankful that you decided to turn up to this weird school after all.
You offer her a small wave and a ‘see you around!’ before turning your attention to the only person in the room you hadn’t spoken to yet: a tall, reserved blonde hiding himself away in the corner. As you make your way over, you’re sure to flash him a friendly smile.
“Hey,” You start, fixing the fit of your sweater, “my name’s (Y/N). It’s nice to meet you.”
He frowns down at you, eyebrows suddenly pushed down and knitted together in an expression that causes your own smile to diminish.
“The name’s Byakuya Togami.” he snarls, and you can’t help but adopt a small frown of your own. You wait a little while for the conversation to continue, looking up at him expectantly but eventually finding yourself cracking under his harsh stare.
When you come to the realisation that he has no further intent of talking to you, you resolve not to let him leave without having a proper back-and-forth conversation with you. You hum, taking a small moment to look him up and down and study his appearance.
“Do you like literature..?” you question, watching as his attention is brought back to you.
His sophisticated outfit- the tie, the shirt, the jacket, dress pants- made it safe for you to assume that this boy had probably read a few books in his lifetime, You’d guess if not for pleasure then to improve his rep. As a bonus, it’s something that you obviously have no trouble talking about, so it’s the perfect topic of conversation.
You look back to the stranger’s face, noticing that, if for only a second, his intense expression relaxes just a little bit.
“... What did you say your title was again?” He inquires- not an answer to your question, but an answer enough to make you crack a small smile
“Oh, I’ve been labelled as the ‘Super Highschool-Level Bookworm’- which would not be my first choice of word, but what can you do?”
You decide that you’ll take the lead in this conversation, seeing as the closed-off male makes no further attempts to speak.
“So,” You start, taking in a deep breath and clasping your hands behind your back, “Togami, what’s yours?”
He pushes his white half-rim glasses further up his nose with a slender index finger, crossing his arms across his chest as he turns his head away from you.
“Super Highschool-Level Heir.” He replies bluntly, annoyance laced thickly in his voice. “Although, in my personal opinion, I too feel that it might be a convoluted insult towards my status...”
He barely mutters the last part, with his- although somewhat half-baked- attempt at making coherent conversation with you subtly improving your mood nonetheless.
As you’re about to respond to his answer, you’re curtly cut off by the girl that you now know as Kirigiri, a gloved hand pressed lightly to her lower lip in thought. Sharply, she calls for the haphazard group’s collective attention.

I thought your Byakuya post was about ‘Danganronpa’ at first due to how often those games brought him back without resurrecting him or even killing him technically and still had it make a convoluted amount of sense, like the Ultimate Despair or John Kramer.
Ha, really??
Danganronpa's Byakuya is the rich bitch from the first game right??? I have a couple mutuals who are fans of the games, so I think I recognise the name.
Byakuya Ishigami deserves to be brought back to life as many times as that one is.

Major spoilers for danganronpa 2 ahead!!! (If anything said here is incorrect to canon, my bad. I’ve only played the first and second game and am currently on the 3rd trial of the 3rd game. I also haven’t seen the anime or any other bonus stuff. So if anything is incorrect, just take it as a canon divergence or something)
I don’t have the time or motivation to write this fic yet so I’m gonna put my overall ideas here and if anyone wants to write or do something with them, feel free to (with credit, obviously)
So I feel very opinionated about how Byakuya and Hiyoko should be best friends and that they’re the only ones who can truly relate to each others struggles family wise. So with that being said, just hear me out on this
Post danganronpa 2, the remnants of hope decide to return for a bit to the island after being informed that the others have woken up, basically to have them undergo some rehabilitation. All of them are making progress, opening up about what caused them to fall into despair etc, and working to be better people. And then there’s Hiyoko, who of course is still being actively rude to everyone, refusing to cooperate, continuing with her toxic behaviour, etc. All the remnants are getting absolutely sick of her behaviour and not knowing what to do. Enter Byakuya -I recognise this attitude- Togami who is like “yeah you’re all idiots, you’re not gonna get her to improve through kind words and trying to appeal to her. So Byakuya goes to Hiyoko, meeting with her alone to talk to her. Hiyoko naturally tries her usual insults but when she sees that he’s not affected and can even return such insults, and also that he isn’t affected by her fake crying, she loses interest. Hiyoko questions if he’s here to give her “anothet stupid therapy session” to which Byakuya is like “no, why would I do that? I already know everything I need to about you and you wouldn’t cooperate with me anyway.” Hiyoko just scoffs and tells him he doesn’t know anything about her, to which he responds saying how “your name is Hiyoko Saionji. You are from a very famous family, the Saionji clan, and as such you had a lot of pressure put on you from a very young age and your life was repeatedly put in danger because you were part of this family. You have witnessed more violence and malicious acts than most had at a young age. You have a strained relationship with your family, not being allowed to see a lot of your blood relatives and hating the ones who you could see. While you appreciate being cared for, you hate that you now don’t really know how to care for yourself as most of it was done for you. You put up walls and push people away as best you can as a defence mechanism, not wanting others to know how weak you really are. You felt the weight of your family’s expectations put on you at a young age and resent them for the trauma they inflicted and yet, despite that, feel completely lost now that they are gone and don’t know what to do next.” Hiyoko brushes him off, accusing him of being a creep and a stalker as she does, Byakuya obviously saying that he’s no such thing. Byakuya then goes to leave but as he does, Hiyoko asks what made him say all that, to which he simply responds “because I was no different” and leaves. Cut days afterwards and Hiyoko at first she denies any similarity between her and Byakuya, still insulting him. But slowly she starts to speak to Byakuya more, gradually opening up. Byakuya makes a point of repeating what Makoto said to him to Hiyoko and giving her space to talk about her problems but in a way where they’re able to relate to each other as opposed to putting Hiyoko on the spot, effectively making them equals as opposed to her being the only one being vulnerable. And for the first time they have someone in their lives who truly understands their experiences, not just sympathising or pitying them
Byakuya essentially becomes to Hiyoko what Makoto was to him, a source of hope and a sign that things can improve

It’s always hard for me to place who would actually be invited to Andreagami’s wedding because of the “Byakuya factor™️”. I know for a fact none of the original cast from the non-de//spair timeline will be invited on his behalf due to his ending dialogue in U//DP and DRS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compared to others’ graduating dialogue:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Byakuya shows no hints or even a scrap of heart-felt emotion towards leaving the academy or his classmates, even despite multiple dialogues of people at least noticing some sort of change in him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though it seems minor compared to the main timeline. He’s still impersonal in his responses and lacks care to the other person or what they’re communicating — as quite simply, he doesn’t care about the person he’s talking to beyond what he can use them for. It’s very obvious he just saw this as another footnote in his life of accomplishments and nothing more. Like most people, he moves on past high school and the people there.
But in the main timeline? I’m still not sure. He’s a great deal more respectful, cooperative, and recognises others’ worth in a more emotional sense — he demonstrates an ability to empathise; which is, in all essence, who Byakuya really was behind the facade. But his interactions with others are still fairly impersonal as it’s fairly obvious he struggles with emotional connection and/or doesn’t care to make any. Even at the end of U//DG when he remembers Mak//oto’s line here:
Tumblr media
He’s not smiling at the reflection of Ma//koto saying it. He’s clearly remembering it contextually as hope overcoming despair and a hope of a better future — something Byakuya values.
To further Byakuya’s confusion over emotional attachments, in the D//R2 epilogue where he expresses concern over the survivors turning back into Ult. Despair and Kirigiri’s comment that the feelings they cling on are proof they are not who they were in the past, he has this to say:
Tumblr media
Although there’s understanding in his tone of how he vocalises this line, it also shows he isn’t hopeful about feelings and emotional connections driving people’s actions still, as he personally cannot empathise or relate to that.
To which Byakuya cannot relate to, he cannot understand (proven in chapter 4, T/HH).
His impersonal nature towards the survivors and his lack of understanding regarding emotional connection proves he doesn’t care for the survivors in a deep manner — his positive actions towards them are clearly driven by respect and duty, nothing more.
And to be honest, I wouldn’t want to change this for Andreagami’s AU either, it’s his character. Sure, he’s emotionally attached to S/I a great deal, but he still gets confused over her emotional responses at times and it’s developed in a way that wouldn’t extend to other characters.
I think if it were ultimately up to Byakuya, he would prefer it were just him and S/I in their wedding day — completely private. Maybe in the non-de//spair timeline they would have to have a wedding for show due to his family, but their actual wedding would be just the two of them.
But I don’t really know for sure, tell me what you think!

Komaru watching the killing game and the broadcast ending cutting out.
But it cuts off just before Alter Ego hijacks Makoto's execution.
Komaru screaming and shaking the TV in tears because he can't be... He can't be gone.
Not like this.
For months she mourns him.
Byakuya breaks her out, fire burns in her eyes and she backhands him.
Hard.
To his credit he stays calm. Recognising the situation they are in.
"I'm not here to harm you."
"And why should I believe that?! I saw the game! I saw what you did."
"... I understand but please come with me. It's urgent you do so."
"You don't underestand shit! You murdered my brother!" Her voice breaks and fresh tears fall.
"You murdered my brother and if you come near me again I will kill you."
Understanding flickers in his eyes.
"Your Komaru Naegi... Your Makoto's little sister."
"Take his name out of your mouth! You have no right... No right!"
Byakuya looks at her, lowering his weapon. He can't blame her for this, he looks at her really looks at her and says as sincerely as he can.
"Your brother is alive."
That's what gets her, she stares at him tears in her eyes.
"His execution failed, if you come with me I will take you to him."
Komaru doesn't believe him, of course she doesn't but she has nowhere to go... And if he's telling the truth...
She doesn't entertain the thought but nods and goes with him.
"If your wrong..." She leaves her threat hanging in the air.
He respects that.
Komaru seeing Makoto and time stops still.
Tears are streaming down her face and he's no better.
They both run into each others arms, holding each other for the first time in forever.
"I thought you were...." She can't say it, for fear if saying it will come true.
And she'll be back in a world where Makoto Naegi doesn't exist.
Makoto nods, a sad smile on his face. "I know... I'm here."
Byakuya leaves them to it, silently leaving the room.
Makoto had greived his family in private and held up a warm light hearted facade.
He deserved to let that mask down.
Both of them did.

Kianna Is Kidnapped Again

They were more worried about the fact that someone kept getting into the house to kidnap you, this time they took you and Nagito, however for a long while they assumed that Nagito was the one that kidnapped you. He was the only one that was able to get past all of the safety precautions in the house and on the grounds as well as convince or take Kianna against her will.
Kianna on the other hand recognised the classroom that she had woken up in, or rather she recognised the feeling that she got when she woke up there. Nagito was across the room and she knew that they had to act quickly if they wanted to be the ones with the most information. She stood walking over to Nagito and poked at his cheek, he groaned dramatically before rolling over to look at her. “An angel.” “Stop it, get up, something is wrong.” She mumbled as she looked around counting windows and noting the one door, as usual the windows were barred shut and the only exit was the door. “Not this again.” “Don’t worry, we got out before.” Nagito reminded her. “You almost didn’t.” She argued. “This time will be different,” He promised. “We’re both leaving, I’m sure those assassins are tearing apart the world looking for you… And me.” “But they won’t find us, they didn’t before.” You grumbled as you both looked up at the door as it rattled. “Get up.” “Relax, calm down.” Nagito stood from where he was laying, taking her face in his hands, helping her to school her breathing as a pair of school kids walked in.
Kianna clashed with everyone given the fact that no one trusted Nagito, the only thing going in their favour was that Nagito was exceptionally smart and both of them were pros at manipulating everyone around them. This trial however put Kianna in the spotlight and with Nagito being the only one that could defend her, no one trusted the alibi. “Why would I lie about where she was, I’d die with the rest of you if I did.” Nagito reminded you and you glared at the two accusing you. “Come on you two are way closer than any of the rest of us, you knew each other in the last games. We all came here with one other person from the games that we survived but that doesn’t mean that we liked them. You clearly like each other if not more.” Byakuya explained while glaring at Toko across the room. “You really think that he’d die for her?” Shuichi asked. “Trust me, I know he would.” Byakuya answered. “I liked the other you better.” Kianna muttered as she leant against the pedestal. “I’m sure you did.” Byakuya muttered as she smirked. “The other you?” Shuichi asked. “In their killing games, there was an ultimate called the ultimate imposter and he was pretending to be me that’s all.” He answered. “So how do we know that you’re who you say you are?” Maki asked. “You dare question my handsome man?” Toko asked. “None of that matters because you're all forgetting something.” Nagito spoke up as he looked directly at you. “What?” Shuichi asked. “There are two other people who could have been responsible for this murder, considering one of us is a serial killer sometimes.” Nagito started. “Toko was with me the whole time. Regretfully.” Byakuya muttered. “So why is her alibi any different from Kianna’s?” Nagito asked. “Who’s the other person?” He asked. “Maki, the ultimate assassin.” Nagito answered. “Maki is the ultimate caregiver.” Shuichi lied. “Are you lying in the courtroom?” Nagito asked. “Lying?” Byakuya asked. “Well she is the ultimate assassin after all.” Nagito smirked. “Trust me I know one when I see one.” Kianna said as everyone’s attention turned to Maki. “Although none of that matters.” Nagito said, drawing their attention back to him. “I don’t have time for your games, hurry up and tell me what you know.” Byakuya ordered.
Nagito walked through the gates with Kianna on his back, the family was waiting having gotten the call that they were both back, all different degrees of relief that they were both back however it took the adults of the family less than 3 seconds to separate the two of them “why did you take her?” Silva asked. “Take her?” Nagito asked. “I didn’t take her.” “Nagito don’t mess around, just tell them the truth.” Kianna ordered. “They aren’t going to believe the truth.” Nagito shrugged. “That doesn’t make this a time to test your luck.” She argued. “I don’t need to test my luck.” He smirked. “This isn’t a joke.” Illumi reminded him. “It was the same as before! They took us back to the game. Nagito saved me, they were going to kill me, he’s the only reason that we came back!” Kianna said as she reached from him where he was kneeling in front of Silva. “Saved you?” Silva asked. “Yes!” Kianna said, she was probably one second away from incapacitating Illumi and trying to get to Nagito before they killed him but then Silva lifted his hand ordering everyone to relax and she took a deep breath as she rushed towards Nagito who caught her. “Don’t worry I promised I wasn’t leaving unless you made me remember?” Nagito asked, while Kianna couldn’t see the dangerous look on his face, a promise to the rest of the family that he’d do anything for her or to be with her.

🖤🌸HELL YEAAA
I feel like Byakuya would reaaaaally love it if his s/o just naturally had a dominating personality. BUUUUT HED LOVE IT EVEN MORE IF HIS S/O IS OUTWARDLY SHY— Until they get to the bedroom and wooooooooo can they dominate. Byakuya would go weak in the knees !! 😮‍💨
I agree!
I believe Byakuya would find it attractive if his partner was shy, demure, respectful. I believe that is influenced by his upbringing. All the women in his life would’ve been that way. Especially the help. He was taught early on that those were qualities to be held in high standards for women, for a potential wife.
I believe this is why Yoruichi annoyed him so 😂 she is loud, bold, crass, everything he had been influenced to frown upon in a woman. I also believe he was jealous of Yoruichi, for being so blatantly open with her true self. Something he could never do
I feel that resentment would project onto any potential partners, he just wouldn’t be able to put up with that personality and not be reminded of that devil woman who he loathed, because he was jealous. An ugly emotion he wouldn’t recognise.
However, Byakuya doesn’t want a docile little thing with no mind of her own. Another mindless person who’d bent to his every will just because of his title. He adores your inner strength, your ability to hold yourself to such admirable standards in his Nobel world, while also speaking your mind and not standing for things you didn’t think were right.
He’d find it incredibly sexy how confident you were in what you wanted, and weren’t afraid to ask for it, or take it for yourself. His knees would go weak when you told him what you wanted, where you wanted him, how you wanted him to please you. His heart would race when you kissed him, when you pulled him down by his clothing and took your kiss.
The fact that you treat him like a man, not just a social figure, would send him wild. It would prove to him you loved him for him. Not for what he had. The fact you would ignore tradition, status, and take the lead, command and direct him would have him a trembling mess.
The perfect balance of what was “acceptable” and what he most desired. In public you were the doting wife, obedient, respectful. You took care of him and his house, the perfect host to his many guests. Behind closed doors you were strong and confident, unafraid to voice your own desires while happily indulging in his own.

Yup.
But it also means Senbonzakura has been hiding his own Reiatsu since he attacked you.
Because he knew damn well you'd recognise it. And now he finally released it, knowing you'd recognise it instantly...

There was a slight smile there...
The Sokyoku Hill is a good memory for Ichigo, apparently...
Jeez, I wonder why!

There's like a lot to unpack in a matter of seconds...
He's got the mask on but he's in perfect control.
His unconscious image of Byakuya... White light, meaning he sees him as a Light in his life. But he's got his back to him, his face only a bit visible.
Byakuya is someone who he can't quite reach... He can bask in his light, but not reach him.
It pains him more to have to face Byakuya after destroying Senbonzakura, than the act itself...
