Bruhs it's time I finally talk about this

There was this thing in the 90s-2010s called "the false memory foundation" that formed bc some dude (not a psychologist/ANY MENTAL HEALTH BACKGROUND) SAd his daughter and his daughter started talking about it to family members and friends. That foundation was basically saying "if you have memories of childhood SA that's probably false memories."

And" Have you been to a therapist? Yeah? They manipulated you to have those." Or "have you been to a therapist? No? Then you must've got false memories somehow. Strange."

They claimed DID, the disorder she was diagnosed with, was fake and made up. That it was instead, false memory syndrome.

So yeah it disbanded in december 2019. So if you ever wondered why the DID community got so big (besides Anthony Padilla) in 2020, that's why.

Everyone can shut up saying it's a trend now, it never was (endos dni) it just was discriminated against and an entire community of abuse survivors got gaslit.

But you also shouldnt hate on endos. They're just... really ignorant on how you shouldn't want to make believe a disorder. Or if their tupla, that's a bit worse, bc they're wanting to play make believe AND using an entire religions practice in vain. But that being said,, I just want em to find a different community. They're just kids. Let him have some fun ig. This disorder can be fun. Sometimes. If I'm high. Lol. But They're mainly kids yall playing pretend LMAO (truly no hate).

- “fix it babies” never work. austin should/does know this. but he's a child of divorce terrified of the relationship he's been in for almost a decade really falling apart.

- so when the girlfriend in question says she's pregnant he goes right along with how hopeful she seems that this will save them.

- the day his daughter, lennon, is born is the best day of his life. she’s perfect and beautiful and everything he could’ve ever wanted. but she doesn’t fix what’s broken in his relationship w/ her mother.

- if the child of divorce breakup apprehension was bad before having a baby with the woman makes it 100x worse.

- the dam breaks when he books elvis. lennon is a little over a year old and girlfriend™️ 180s on how supportive she’s been when he actually gets the part and the move to australia comes up. she goes with him to the 2019 GQ awards and they get into a fight about her not wanting to move so bad that baz hears it through the wall.

- “so are we breaking up? i’m just not gonna see my daughter till we wrap? god knows when,”

- she promises she’ll bring her to visit, and she does in feburary. he’s so excited to see his baby but (now ex) girlfriend™️ is not happy and it gets under his skin how much she’s treating this like a chore.

- he ends up venting to you about it, looking away and chewing on his bottom lip when he asks if you’d want to get dinner somewhere with him. nothing fancy, he just doesn’t want to be alone with his thoughts.

- austin’s your friend- and you’re worrried about him, so you say yes. if you go from dinner to his bed, well then that’s your own secret. it becomes less of a secret with time though- when he bestows you with the girlfriend moniker, you get spotted together and gossip swirls. as. it does.

- tom gets covid and everyone is packing up to go home and both you and baz tell austin he should too. but the last time he talked to his ex girlfriend it was a yelling match when she saw paparazzi photos of him with you.

- to say she hates him is being gentle. and he loves his daughter more than anything- to the extent that he’s horrified by the thought of trapping her in a house where him and her mother are constantly at each other’s throats.

- a month goes by before he really starts to regret that decision and sobs in your arms after a facetime call with her.

- when lockdown eases up a little his dad (not his ex-girlfriend) flys out with lennon to see him and you’ve never seen austin so happy.

- his dad is skeptical of you, but the toddler isn’t. the look you see in austin’s eyes when he’s watching you with her makes your chest tight.

- when elvis wraps and he moves to london he tells ex girlfriend he’ll put her up in a nice hotel and take care of her if she brings lennon over. so she does.

- but you moved with him to london too and ex girlfriend doesn’t like that. she especially doesn’t like you being around lennon.

- she leaves with the little girl after 2.5 weeks when she picks a fight with austin about you and he gets defensive. you feel guiltily no matter how much he tells you not to.

- masters of the air wraps and he’s finally back in california more permanently- you with him. a more “normal” custody schedule is put into place and it works well enough.

- sometimes ex girlfriend is hours late for pick up and drop off, and it doesn’t seem like she hates your guts any less- it’s most of why you haven’t moved in with him. but it works well enough. until the press tour.

- everyone is bringing family to memphis and austin wants to bring lennon, but it throws a wrench into the schedule that ex girlfriend isn’t apt to budge on. until he begs, and agrees to take a red eye before he has to be in new york to drop her back in california.

- he’s holding lennon sleeping on his lap during the bbq thing they did at graceland and lisa comes over all “gosh she’s precious aus, i miss when my girls were that tiny.”

- “trying to let her sleep now because we have to go to the airport tonight and get a red eye so i can drop her back with her mom and get to new york on time.”

- lisa says that sounds like a pain and he’s like yeah i asked if i could take her to new york and toronto and just bring her back when we’re done with press in a week- “my sister would’ve come to to help me out, not like i would’ve been leaving her with my assistant all day. but nope- she didn’t even really want her to come here, but i begged.”

- lisa says she gets that mentions how couldn’t make it to cannes because of custody bullshit of her own with the twins. austin he nods along.

- her heart hurts so much for him. so does yours.

- ex girlfriend has a boyfriend and austin finds out because he’s in the car when she’s getting lennon from the airport. he’s not happy about being kept in the dark- or about leaving her around a man he’s never met. but he has to be in new york.

- he cries to you in a tucked away corner of the new york premiere about how stressful it all is, mumbling that he just wishes things were different.

- he didn’t mean he wished ex girlfriend would drop it on him that her boyfriend convinced her to move abroad for a months long boho hippie retreat in the middle of nowhere so she’s signing over full custody. but that’s what happens. a week before your ohio move.

- austin feels so guilty- like he’s forcing you into the role of a nanny while he’s on set but lennon is a good kid- you really don’t mind.

- playing house like this is making you fall harder and faster than ever. him too.

- but that doesn’t mean austin doesn’t break down when miss ex girlfriend calls with the news that her boyfriend got a permanent job with the retreat company abroad. and that she’s planning on staying there with him.

- austin cries not so much for himself, but for his daughter who’s too little to understand she’s being abandoned. who still walks around the ohio apartment asking both of you when mama’s coming back.

- he feels like he failed as a dad, and you kiss his face and hold him tight and assure him that’s not true.

- he doesn’t believe you, not yet, but he does love you. his daughter loves you. that counts for something, surely.

Off-topic weekend: My top five games of 2023!

Hey folks! How's Splatfest going? I've had mixed success so far, winning two 10x battles but losing a 100x, which evens out, right?

But let's not focus on that, this is the off-topic post of the month, after all. In 2023 I played an unusual amount of brand-new games, and I like talking about the stuff I like, so let's real quick go over my favourite games of the year, in order!

Starting with:

5. Wildfrost

Wildfrost is a roguelike deckbuilder about disparate tribes banding together to fight off a supernatural, eternal snowstorm. Over the course of three areas and many battles you assemble a deck of allies and items, augment them with upgrades, and face off against a whole slew of unique and challenging boss battles. The thing I wanna highlight about this game is just how gorgeous the presentation is. All the character designs are delightful, and the way everything bobs and shakes as you pick cards to play or reposition feels just right. The soundtrack is also a complete slam dunk, using a ton of traditional instruments to help sell the vibes, whether they're cosy like in your hubtown or intense like the battle themes. If you like games like Slay the Spire or Monster Train then this is definitively a game for you.

4. Cocoon

Cocoon is a puzzle game about exploring alien landscapes with tools that are also full-on worlds in themselves. As a little... alien? Moth? Robot? As a little guy, you're tasked with solving a wide variety of puzzles by using differently colored orbs that, when placed on certain pedestals in the environment, opens up portals to entire new realms. Nestling realities within other realities and traveling between them soon becomes a core facet of your problem-solving, and the beauty of Cocoon is that its puzzles thread this extremely thin line where the solution is neither too hard or easy, but will always be very satisfying and frequently mindblowing in the way it makes you bend reality(or realities as the case may be) to your whims. Cocoon is lean, slim, and polished, and likely won't last you more than ten hours, but those ten hours will leave you feeling a smart and satisfied in a way you've never experienced before.

3. Remnant II

In 2019, Remnant: From the Ashes asked a bold question: "What if Dark Souls, but guns?" The answer turned out to be that you got a fun, interesting third-person shooter with defensive play inspired by Fromsoftware's lineage of action RPGs but with a greater emphasis on co-op play and replayability, and in 2023, that game got a sequel that looked to expand on all of its predecessor's most interesting ideas. One of the most impressive things about remnant II is just how much content it has that it doesn't show you, because it's designed around the core idea that every player's first playthrough feels different and so it only shows you a sliver of its hand in every playthrough, confident in its breadth of content to such an extend that the game let's you roll an entire new randomized campaign with a single press of a button. I'll admit that out of everything on this list, Remnant II is probably the most "by-the-numbers" game on this list, in part by virtue of being the only sequel on it, but I had a blast playing this game, and if you're looking for something to play with a friend or two, then I think you will too.

2. Cassette Beasts

Cassette Beasts is a creature-collector RPG in the style of Pokémon, and I actually already wrote a whole post about Cassette Beasts earlier this year, but I want to reiterate that this game is really good. In a lot of ways, it feels like Bytten Studios, the developers of Cassette Beasts, took the formula of the DS-era Pokémon games and utterly perfected it. It's got a big open world for you to explore, deep and snappy 2v2 combat, over 120 monsters, all of which can be fused mid-combat as the ace up your sleeve. Rather than type weaknesses just increasing damage, they inflict various buffs/debuffs that add a lot of complication to battles and force you really consider your team composition. There's adjustable difficulty, including a built-in nuzlocke mode. There a bunch of cool companion characters with their own entire storylines, and most of them you can romance if you'd like. If you like Pokémon or the whole creature-collector RPG genre as a whole, then you need to play Cassette Beasts, because at the moment I really do think it's the king of the genre.

1. Lies of P

Lies of P is an action RPG of the Soulslike variety, taking a stab at replicating the formula that made Fromsoftware and their critically renowned games such a household name. I like Fromsoftware and their games lot, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring are all pretty high on my list of favourite games of all time for their excellent world design, wonderful atmosphere, and captivating combat. I mention all of this so that you understand that it's a big deal when I say Lies of P is so good that it sometimes beats Fromsoftware at their own game.

It's not a game without flaws. I found the english localization to be awkward and stilted, sometimes to the point of being distracting, and its level design is very simple, especially compared to its peers. What sets Lies of P apart however is that it has the best goddamn combat in the genre. Explaining why I think that would take a lot of time, and this post is running long as is, so to keep things short the gist of it is that Lies of P manages to make your offensive and defensive tools flow into each other seamlessly, with dodges, blocks and parries allowing you to keep up the pressure even as enemies are attacking. Couple that with a ton of different weapons, all with their own special moves, most of which you can take apart and combine with other weapons, and a mechanical left arm that can be equipped with a variety of tools like a flamethrower or a grappling hook, and it results in one of the most nuanced combat systems I've ever seen.

I adore Lies of P. I bought it at the end of December, beat it once, and I am currently doing three more playthroughs with different builds, weapons, and restrictions. I've never enjoyed mastering the systems of a game as much as I have playing Lies of P, and that is ultimately why it's my favourite game of 2023.

1. red sister. it’s just… magic nuns a gay poisoner nun and her assassin gf. it’s about a protag who is small and can make her hands into knives and move faster than sound and is absolutely ride or die for her friends. i read it sixteen times in 2019 so… make of that what you will.

2. gideon the ninth. i’ll be honest i was very hype about gtn in the lead-up to publication but then when it released i just could not get into it. it was so frustrating because i loved the prose loved the energy instantly loved Gideon Nav with heart soul and left tit but,, spent a long time getting 40 pages in and then stopping over and over. but! then when i did finally read it the unintentional edging made it 100x more intense. never have felt so abnormal after finishing a book i bawled my eyes out so hard it took me an hour to read the last chapter and the epilogue. now i reread gtn constantly just to exist in it. still love Gideon Nav.

3. temeraire. first book in a series about the napoleonic wars if dragons. i just love love love this first entry. love Temeraire and his Captain <3 and will commit murder for Levitas. this is comfort read it’s a warm blankie and a cup of tea the energy of it the style the dragons. another one i reread when i need to put gauze on my brain without the use of a drill.

4. the fifth season. nothing makes me feel quite like this book. searingly written, gritty as all hell. that dedication on the first page “for all those who have to fight for the respect that everyone else is given without question.” the hand scene if you know you know was written specifically for me i think. another book that takes out your spine and whips you with it. i think i’ve read it about two dozen times.

5. ‘all systems red’ from the murderbot diaries. just finished reading it for the fifth time i think and despite the fact that i’m only now getting to the other books i always have such a good time reading this,, well novella really. the first time i read it in a hour and a half standing at the kitchen counter with just the stove light on. it’s that kind of book.

The biggest take away I've gotten from all post 2020 Sonic stuff is Shadow would be 100x more entertaining if the writers didn't turn him into only a walking circa 2005 myspace emo stereotype. He has the potential to be a good rival, still semi-reluctantly get pulled into whatever Sonic does, & be what he's always been- a very smart but tired goth who just wants to live in peace.

Sonic Boom did so much to destroy him as a character but the post 2019 comics & Sonic Prime? I pray that's the blueprint moving forward after all the strikes are over. I hope Sega sees why people like the present Shadow & don't back pedal.

Even when we used to get much less BLs (I mean pre 2019/2020), I would say the majority were mediocre. And a few were really stellar and a few were extremely bad. It’s just that now the number is greater but I don’t think percentage wise there’s more mediocre or bad BLs. Also in the past we literally ate up everything and it was like… at least we have this much so we swallowed a lot of complaints and made the best of it.

of course there were always bad and mediocre bls but now there's 100x more of them bc they realized it's a cash cow. at first i was happy getting more and more series bc i thought that would mean they would improve in quality but except for a few gems, it just didn't happen. years passed and we keep getting the same stories again and again and it's just sad to look at
