All My Roads Lead Back to You Epilogue
Here it is, the final part. I’m sad that’s it over. It has been such a lovely story and such lovely people that have supported me through. Those that were there from the start. Those that joined at anytime during the ride. Even the ones joined in with the last chapter. Thank you. All of you. You are all amazing.
The wedding.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Part 16 Part 17 Part 18
***
The Munson-Harrington wedding was the must have invite of the year. It didn’t even matter that their marriage would only be recognized in a handful of states. All that mattered was that they were getting the chance to tie the knot and throw a huge party for all their friends.
Dateline had done an hour long piece of the Hawkins Witch Hunt as they were calling what happened to Eddie. It opened a whole can of worms regarding the Hawkins Police Department and other things that they may have sanctioned.
That lovely little news piece also bagged Kenny a girlfriend. He took one look at Lily Byers when she arrived for school that autumn and fell head over heels in love with her.
She even joined the band as rhythm guitar to newly named Children of the Knights of Hell’s Fire. They had found their style at last. It was little bit metal and whole lot of rock.
While their kids were in their senior year, Jeff, Gareth, Eddie, and Steve were all in Eddie’s studio working on an album. Apparently not only could Steve play, but the man had the pipes of a god damned angel.
Eddie had been tempted to put him as lead vocalist, but Gareth wisely pointed out that fans are going to at least expect to hear Eddie at some point.
So Steve was harmonies and backup vocals as well as bassist. Eddie was writing away and coming up with new stuff, remixing old stuff and he was finally able to properly grieve Jay by writing the song “Two Loves: Not Better, Just Different”.
The original Corroded Coffin boys loved it, Children of the Knights of Hell’s Fire loved it, and of course Steve loved it. It was unanimously decided that it should be the first single.
Everyone came to the wedding. The other Byers/Wheeler clan arrived with twin baby girls that they recently adopted. Beautifully named Elinor and Jeanette.
Dustin and Suzie’s baby boy was named Percival or Percy after his other favorite literary hero when Suzie wouldn’t let him name their child D’Artangan. He was also spoiled rotten.
Max and Lucas were the next to arrive with three very tall red-headed, dark skinned boys. The eldest Anthony was sixteen, the middle boy, Reggie was twelve, and their youngest Sean was eight.
Erica and her husband, David brought their two boys, Nico and Nemo aged ten. When their firsts were twins that was enough for them.
The parents started arriving as well. Joyce and Jim came. Claudia, too. The Sinclairs were there of course. Wayne had showed up weeks ago to help with all the planning.
Jane came last. She never married, she became a children’s advocate for neglected and abused orphans. She was the one they brought in when things got bad because she always had a ‘knack’ for knowing what the child was thinking. She had thrown herself into the work and found it rewarding.
Steve’s house was teaming with children of all ages and he loved it. Eddie came up to him at the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.
“It’s not quite the six nuggets you were hoping for,” he murmured into Steve’s ear, his arm gently wrapping around his waist. “But I think you’ve got your wish about lots of kids, sweetheart.”
Steve blushed. “I didn’t know anyone had heard that.”
Eddie nibbled on his ear. “My only regret is pushing you toward Nancy. That wasn’t fair to any of the parties involved.”
Steve nodded. “I was so desperate to be loved by someone, I would have fallen for anyone. It’s not your fault.”
Eddie’s chuckle rumbled through Steve, they were that close. “Ah, but you see that’s my regret. Had I known that I would have pushed my case so fucking hard, babe.”
Steve burst out laughing. “I’ll bet you would have! Throwing that vest in my face so hard I had to take a step back just because Nancy and I had an in-joke.”
“Guilty as charged.”
Max came up to them and hit Steve with her crutches. “About time you two got your heads out of your collective asses.”
Eddie gave her a hug. “I missed you too, Red.”
“Just make one of the stops on your tour Boston and we’ll call it even,” she said.
“Deal,” Steve and Eddie said together.
She laughed. “God, how does Harri and Edie put up with you two? You’re such saps!”
“Auntie Max!” Edie called. “Come meet Mandy Lawrence, she skates, too!”
Max laughed. “I’m coming. Hold your horses.”
*
The backyard was beautifully decorated in blue and yellow flowers. Eddie’s groomsmen were in blue and Steve’s bridesmaids were in bright, sunny yellow. Dustin was Eddie’s best man and Robin was Steve’s maid of honor. On Steve’s side of the aisle was Nancy, Edie, Lily, and Max. On Eddie’s was Wayne, Harri, Jeff, and Gareth.
It was a quiet affair despite everyone who knew anyone wanted to be invited.
There was no procession. Steve and Eddie were already at the alter waiting for their guests to file in. They stood together, both hands clasped in the other’s.
Hopper was officiating, having become a justice of the peace after leaving the police force. They had already done the marriage part in a quiet courthouse in a small Massachusetts town. This was for their friends and family to witness.
“Today we bring together two people,” Hopper began, “who despite all appearances of being complete opposites couldn’t be more perfect for each other than if God himself had planned it.”
Steve and Eddie both blushed.
“Eddie,” Steve murmured, “You are the best part of me. I wandered lost and though I was never quite alone, having friends and beautiful daughter by my side, I looked for love in all the wrong places, because that place was always home, with you. I started us on the path by saying things I didn’t mean because I frightened of the change you have always brought to my life.” Steve released Eddie’s hand for a moment to wipe away a tear.
“But I should have realized that you brought me joy in those changes and not run away from you. So I promise to come to you when I’m feeling down or bad about myself. I promise to love you even if loving myself is hard. I promise to care for you always and cherish each moment of every day that I get with you. I never thought I’d get a single day, and getting a chance of a life time with you is a dream come true.”
He brought Eddie’s hands to lips to kiss his knuckles.
Eddie smiled. “Steve, I believed I used up my second chance when you rescued me all those years ago. Bleeding and broken, I thought my second chance at a new life was when me and my boys got our record deal, but now I see that my real second chance was here, with you. Jay made me happy for the time we had together, and I truly believe he prepared my heart to be receptive to yours.”
Steve mouthed, ‘I love you.’
“I promise to love on the days that are hard. To cherish on the days that are easy. And worship you all of my days. You had a life time of believing yourself to be unlovable, and I promise to spend the next forty years–”
“At least!” Dustin called out.
Eddie laughed. “At the very least. I promise to spend the rest of ours lives proving how wrong you are. That you are loved, adored, worshiped, and admired by me. I love you, sweetheart.”
Hopper cleared his throat and blinked back tears. “And now the rings.”
Eddie took the black box from Dustin. He pulled out a gold band that had a sun and a moon with a diamond in the sun setting and a grey garnet in the moon setting. “With this ring, I thee wed.” He slipped it on Steve’s ring finger.
Steve looked at it in wonder, eyes filling with joyous tears. He took the white box from Robin and pulled out a black wrought iron ring with the same setting, only in the sun spot was a red garnet and in the moon’s was the diamond. “With this ring, I thee wed.” He slid it onto Eddie’s finger.
“By the authority vested in me,” Hopper concluded, “I pronounce you both husbands in the eyes of this congregation and God, husbands as long as you both shall live. You may now kiss the groom.”
Eddie grabbed Steve’s face in his hands and kissed him fiercely as Steve held on.
They broke off to laughter and tears. They walked back down the aisle to everyone throwing white rose petals over them as they past. Eddie and Steve laughed, skipping and giggling like children as their bridesmaids and groomsmen followed close behind.
*
The reception was the grand affair. All of Steve’s friends were there and all of Eddie’s connections in the music industry was there. Harri was almost one hundred percent sure he saw James Hetfield talking to famed baseball player Derek Jetter, but then someone past in front of him and they were both gone by the time Harri could see around the person again.
Harri walked up to Edie and bumped their shoulders together. “Who would have thought that over a year ago when you told me that you needed a new guitarist for your band, that it would lead to the wedding of the decade, between our two dads.”
She looked over at her dad who was trying to catch marshmallows with his mouth thrown by Dustin, Jane, and Eddie. He had come so far now that he was with the right therapist. Edie had started listening to her own more now too and was forced to admit she didn’t need to look after her dad because he could look after himself just fine.
“Best decision ever,” she agreed.
“Just two small town boys from each from different worlds clawing their way to make their own place in the world,” a warm voice said behind them.
Edie and Harri turned to see Wayne Munson standing there in a nice grey suit having changed for the reception, hands in his pockets.
“Grandpa Wayne!” Harri cried and threw his arms around him. “It’s been so great having you around these last couple of weeks.”
Wayne reached out with one arm for Edie who promptly snuggled up too.
“Does this mean you’re my grandpa now, too?” she whispered.
Wayne kissed the top of her head. “Of course it does. Steve was always mine married to Eddie or not. Even if we hadn’t spoken in decades, Stevie was always mine.”
“You’re going to make me cry for the tenth time,” Steve said coming up to them, hand in hand with Eddie, “if you keep saying things like that.”
Wayne waved his hands. “Come on, I still arms enough for you two.”
Steve and Eddie joined the Wayne hug and sighed happily.
“Hey!” Jonathan said, “Picture?”
They all lined up, Wayne in the middle flanked by Eddie and Steve his side while Edie and Harri stood next to their dads.
Jonathan snapped the photo.
Steve came up and gave him a hug. “Thanks for agreeing to do the photos for us.”
Jonathan hugged back fiercely. “Not a problem, man. Saves me from having to buy you a toaster.”
Steve laughed. “Where’s your beautiful wife?”
Jonathan looked around and pointed to the punch bowl. “There she is. Bitching out Barbara Walters.”
Eddie laughed. “Sounds about right.”
Harri looked over at her and cocked his head. “Hey, Dad. She looks a lot like you.”
Jonathan and Eddie shared a panicked expression.
“Well, you see...” Eddie said as Steve threw his head back and laughed.

More top 23 in '23
I make a looooooot of sims, as most of you know. I decided to take yesterday's tag and expand it a bit. So here are 23 of my favorite sims I created or remixed.
This is Lu! You've sorta kinda met him already through random pics I posted, but we'll meet him officially soon in The Piersons and Friends.
Tumblr media
2. Leland Sinclair 😍
Tumblr media
3. Danika "Dani" James (a.k.a "rude girl) lol
Tumblr media
4. I don't remember this dude's name, but he sure is fine!
Tumblr media
5. She is the CAS premade with the sunglasses and head wrap.
Tumblr media
6. I don't remember his name either, but I think he is adorable!
Tumblr media
7. Another CAS premade.
Tumblr media
8. I saw this hair and had to make a sim. I think I accidentally made a simself for Donald Glover lol.
Tumblr media
9. Matthew Tidwell. This was a hideous townie I saved. He's married to Mel's fan/stan from the club.
Tumblr media
10. I made a series of Asian sims when EA gave us those new presets. She is my fav.
Tumblr media
11. If this ever makes it into the Pierson save, she is going to be Nadia's biggest fan. The way I dressed her is very reminiscent of Nadia's style, so that will be part of her story if it comes to it.
Tumblr media
12. Another one of my new Asian sims. Personality-wise, she is the exact opposite of the other chick, and I would love to see them attempt to become friends lol.
Tumblr media
13. This is, Pierce Burton, one of the 5 minute sims I made in my tutorial with CC. He also had a cameo in @mysimsloveaffair's story.
Tumblr media
14. The sim from the how to make sims' parents video with CC.
Tumblr media
15. I think she's supposed to be a CAS premade but I don't recall which one.
Tumblr media
16. One of my vanilla cuties no longer vanilla. 😍
Tumblr media
17. Her name is Princess, and she is one of my favorite sims I've made with my random method. I was hoping she'd be imported to meet Luca, but Sophia's got him occupied lol.
Tumblr media
18. A rare vanilla cutie that I actually prefer vanilla.
Tumblr media
19. I made this sim for @trumpets0ng because she loved my basketball player Josef Ibarra but he wasn't a good match for her sim. So I created a brother for him who is unofficially Adam Rodriguez's simself lol.
Tumblr media
20. This sim (and hair) was created by @khadijah551. I downloaded a few of her sims to see what they would look like without the alpha skins. 😍
Tumblr media
21. Another khadijah sim. I love him the best!
Tumblr media
22. The last sim by khadijah. He looked like a family guy so he has a fiancé and a baby now lol.
Tumblr media
23. The last sim I made. I think I have plans for him. 😍

did not commit fratricide this week but it got a little close there
listening
spotify tried to rec me some electro remix of this Eartha Kitt song i did NOT care for but i did enjoy the original Mink Schmink (YouTube). very similar to last year’s favorite Peel Me A Grape by Anita O’Day. this is a particular kind of oldies #girlboss song that i am super weak to
i also have an entire album to rec! spotify recced me a movie soundtrack by this artist and i went to check out their latest work. a very pleasant outer space themed saxophone-forward experience to enjoy while trying out a very slow video game! the opening track Chaldene will let you know pretty fast if you’ll like the whole album. bouncy, in the ways that saxophones are. very cowboy bebop soundtrack adjacent? i have a data entry playlist with many instrumental albums of long pieces for when i need really consistent vibes or vibes that change very slowly and this is going to be such a good addition
reading
feeling a little bit grim about the state of the world and long-tail reporting/continuity of knowledge, partially bc some friends got fired from the games industry and are throwing in the towel (do not blame them at ALL, also now this means i don't know anyone in the industry with more than three years of experience under their belt) and partially feeling a little bit grim bc i read an article FOREVER ago from the old motherboard team at VICE about how locations were being harvested from various religious and health apps, and FINALLY that data broker is starting to see some real consequences. the ONLY reason this reporter is still following this story/is still a reporter is bc after VICE summarily fired like half the site last year, he went off and started his own site.
grim! grim article, grim context, grim all around.
watching
i would love for my best friend's son to become obsessed with a different movie than pixar's elemental. but if this is the price of having an only semi-interrupted conversation with his mom then so be it.
playing
“sail forth” by developer Quantum Astrophysicists Guild and published by Festive Vector (pair of really killer names there) is the free epic game this week. i spent a reasonably okay hour with it but do not plan to continue further. the opening area has some problems that do not interest me in whatever this game does in the next area. tldr: the actual sailing part is fun, which is good bc it's a sailing game, but there isn't enough to Do in this adventure/exploration game and it's all really far apart.
Tumblr media
it has a particular sensibility married with its art style that makes me say “cozy game” (derogatory). your main character is named captain toot. everyone has funky sentence structure liberally sprinkled with nautical terms that come off vaguely nonsensical instead of piratical. there are a lot of almost-kennings like “deepblue” “moontiders” “fishfolk”. things of this nature. while i do love a kenning i don’t have a lot of patience for this. which is unfortunate bc this game tested my patience in several ways.
Tumblr media
the actual Sailing part is the best part of the game. there's some very fun weather-- i have seen light and heavy fog, light and heavy rain, and a full on thunderstorm. the fact that sailing is the best part of the game would be good except everything is VERY far apart, and while the call of a blank horizon is super important in an oceangoing game (i think) when it becomes more fun to just fast travel everywhere instead of sailing the long way, i think that’s where you have to refine some things in your game. this is less of an open world and more little pockets of things in between a truly ridiculous amount of empty space. i cannot imagine this runs in an acceptable manner on switch.
Tumblr media
the good parts of sailing are the thoughtful controls: the compass, the wind on the compass, and the little sail trim bar. you should also keep an eye on wave direction bc that will really impact your top speed. you CAN tack back and forth directly into the wind but this game will make you fucking work for it, which i do like. i also liked sailing with the camera zoomed all the way in, it felt very fast and dangerous on the very long wait to get to the next island. and then it was no longer fun on the very long sail to get to the next island. i am almost confident these islands are procgen, it’s possible i got a weirdly big seed but i don’t care enough to fire up a new save.
the general pace of the game/this first area feels a little underbaked or weirdly optimized. i got enough wood in the first hour to upgrade to the best available one-mast sloop, i fought a pirate which required a lot of precision seamanship with my one lonely bow gun, i did a race, i declined a target practice course, i poked my head into eight different map locations. despite this variety, it all felt very samey. generally the map locations have one or two things to do plus one resource (the precision seamanship required to collect resources is fun for the first two islands but then stops being interesting) or one collectible. no one island is particularly memorable. i really loved Sunless Sea, a game that also features a large map and very slow travel, but there’s a WAY more resource management and random events, and shit is simply closer together in that game.
if i was looking for a very slow podcast game and was 20% cutesier as a person this would be ideal, but for who i am right now? not for me.
making
my siblings visited! we did not kill each other, nobody had food poisoning, and nobody died! that's all i can really ask for. here's me and my sister looking at a big quilt at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum
Tumblr media
phil went to the emergency vet sunday afternoon bc her spay site was looking Gnarly. she either has an infection or a reaction to her sutures but the treatment is the same either way. the emergency vet said we could probably skip our normal vet visit on friday but, given that we discover a new problem every time we go to the vet, we will be keeping that appointment. all recent pics of her are smushed up on my lap at a goofy angle. have a pic of mackaroni and beans

Hi, I recently saw a game that used cribbage scoring for resolution, I know I've dabbled with craps as resolution, and hands of blackjack/poker have been a common diceless alternative for years, but are you aware of any other interesting uses for "classic" games as part of a ttrpg's core mechanics?
THEME: Classic Games - Remixed
Hello there! I’m assuming that the cribbage game you are talking about is Hey Boss, by Zaftikat, which is inspired by Nimona! Let’s see what else we can find. It was easy to find poker hands as methods of resolution, but I did find a few that use a different game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Headcanon, by radiantfracture.
All the apocalypses blur together, but this one could be special.
In which our heroes play collaborative poker for their fates and the fate of the multiverse. …No pressure.
In Headcanon, the two(ish) of you – friends, enemies, allies, lovers, all of the above – play out the final episode of the Eternal Show, a nearly infinite low-budget horror-speculative-fiction-suspense-medical-drama-police-procedural-apocalyptic TV series.
In this low-prep ttrpg, players create collaborative poker hands to determine their characters’ actions and the success or failure of the scene.
If you want some two-player fun with poker hands and some inspiration, you might want to check out Headcanon. You’ll start by deciding what’s canon - where is the story set? Who are the factions at play? What does the end of the world look like? You’ll use cards from the deck to help you narrow down some of the options, as well as create characters for each of you. You’ll then play establishing hands that flesh out some details about the beginning of the episode - what happened to your characters, and how they’re feeling about it. Then recap a bit and try to determine what brought your characters to this moment. You’ll play through 5 acts using a shared hand in order to create a narrative, with actions available depending on the number of the card you played, ending in a final scene where you get to decide how it all goes down.
If you paid for the TTRPGs for Reproductive Rights Bundle a year or two ago, you already own this game. If you want a game that gives you and a friend the chance to make the season finale you’ve always wanted, you might want to check out this game!
Howdy, Stranger, by NumberNine.
This is a wild west RPG that uses blackjack as a resolution mechanic. The first thing this gives you is a new way to resolve actions - the Dealer and the player each play a hand of blackjack. The Dealer always hits on a 16 or lower; on a 17, they stand. If you win the hand, you did it! If you lose, you run into complications. If you get blackjack, not only do you win, but the dealer adds a twist that makes you even more awesome.
The game also has a little bit of structure around character creation and combat, using card values to assign numbers to three skills, and more cards to determine how long you last in a gun fight. Finally, it gives you a starting scenario, with a mysterious death and a number of rumours for the players to follow up on. If your game group already has a comfortable style of play, you could plop this in and take it for a spin - if you’re a new group or new to GM-ing, I’d recommend something else with a little more guidance.
Rowan Queen Blues, by Vyrdine.
Rowan Queen Blues is a game for the 2022 Cover Game Jam, under the theme of Rituals & Folklore. Three players work together as The Rowan Queen, a single authority [though not necessarily a single person] attempting to lead her people to safety against the oncoming threat of the Darkness.
What I like about this game is that it gives you digital tarot cards to play with if you don’t have your own deck. The game also comes with the basic rules of cribbage, in case you’re unfamiliar with it. This is a game of three-player cribbage, using prompts from the tarot deck to help spark the creativity as you play. What exactly the darkness is (and who the Queen is) looks to be up to you.
DROWWORD, by Ursidice.
The Drow – sometimes known as Trow or Dtrow – are mischievous sprites with pale skin and dark hair that inhabit the Orkney Islands. At night, when the moonlight paints the earth, they emerge from their drowie knowes to sneak into nearby towns, causing mischief and stealing items to take home to their burrows. They love music and are particularly beguiled by songs and stories, drawing the power for their tricksy magick from written and spoken words. As they run through the darkened streets and across the wild cliffs, they draw letters from their sporrans to cast spells on those who would spot them or stand in their way.
DROWWORD is a mini RPG that uses Scrabble tiles instead of dice, where you play as naughty dark elves trying to steal as many shiny trinkets as possible!
The basic method of resolution in this game relies on drawing letter tiles and counting how many you need to get 10 points. The less you need to draw, the better - but if you draw too many, you can always try to negate it by spelling a word! This replicates the drows’ use of magic as an attempt to save themselves from failure. It’s a simple little game with plenty of opportunity for mischief!
hook, line, & cyb3r, by satah.
a go fish-powered cyberpunk-flavoured game of blade-wielding bounty hunters, originally developed for the fishblade 2023 game jam
a zero prep, GMless, pick-up-&-play one shot of dastardly neon-tinged montages, leaning on mechanics you've known like your entire life & a vast array of generative tables to slide you effortlessly into playing out the chaotic professional lives of shadowrunners, bounty hunters, or some other type of high tech dystopic gig economy adjacent freelance criminals for hire.
You'll still need some d6's to play this game, but the basic rules use the mechanics of Go Fish. The suits of cards represent four different kinds of intel, which you'll need to gather to build a scenario. Using the cards and some roll tables, you don't need a GM, because the story is partially generated! If you want to play a roleplaying game with friends but nobody has a lot of time or mental energy to learn a new ruleset, I recommend hook, line, & cyb3r.
Go Directly To Jail, by Typhos Games.
Go Directly to Jail is a game of prison break. Two agents have each been asked by a different crime syndicate to rescue one of their members from the Elmira Correctional Facility in New York State. This maximum security prison houses some of the worst mobsters in the entire world, and you've been tasked with breaking one of them out.
Two players will take turns moving around the board, and will alternate acting as their character and as the narrator. Both players are trying to get in and get out as quickly as possible, but don't get in each other's way!
This game uses the pieces of Monopoly, but not necessarily all of the rules. The board becomes a prison, out of which both of you are trying to escape. You use Monopoly money to represent assets, that you can use to overcome Obstacles rather than attempting to roll for it. It doesn’t matter what version of Monopoly you use - although I think it would be very fun to re-skin the setting based off of the Monopoly board you use!

if u could have dressed Effy in Fire what would you have her worn?
I would want a style for her that keeps her edgy roots but that's a little more streamlined, elegant, and work appropriate than what we see her wear when she's 16. When I think of Effy's style, I think of leather, lace, a mix of feminine and masculine pieces, outfits that are suggestive in unexpected ways, and of course, lots of jewelry. I think there are ways to remix and update that same kind of vibe to make it more modern and grown-up. AllSaints is a brand that I think does this really well, so a lot of the example images I pulled are from their site.
For dresses, I love the idea of going for a maxi length instead of the micro-minis that Effy wears in series 3 and 4, but balancing that out with sheer materials, vintage-y prints, architectural cuts, chunky boots, or a leather jacket. These are a few dresses that I thought could work really well for a more grown-up Effy style:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For tops, I like the idea of taking the muscle tee shape and finding ways to channel it without being too revealing. A sleeveless, high-neck top or a waistcoat top could give the same vibe while still seeming a little more grown-up:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, tops with a kind of vintage-y pattern and sheer material could also work for her style, especially when paired with "tougher" pieces:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For bottoms, I think leather is a really easy way to make an outfit look more edgy, but pretty much anything in black would work:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For shoes, I think a lug sole boot would be a more sophisticated version of her Sancho boots for everyday wear, and a heeled boot could be a nice option for dressier events. I could also see her liking the chunky sole loafers that have been in style recently. Docs, combat boots, and Converse are also always in, so I think she would have those in her wardrobe as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, she needs her stacked necklaces. I think going for ones that are a little bit daintier keeps them from looking too heavy while maintaining her style:

Jeopardy!
Tumblr media
NA release: 25th February 1998
PAL release: N/A
JP release: N/A
Developer: GameTek
Publisher: Take Two
N64 Magazine Score: 9%
Tumblr media
Similar to Wheel of Fortune, this got a scathing review from N64 Magazine and, once again, this is just fine. There’s not much too it, but it gets the job done. That said, it does have a few problems not present in Wheel of Fortune.
One odd thing I noticed (which isn’t really a problem) is that the menu music is a remix of “I’m a little teapot”, which is a bit random.
Tumblr media
Jeopardy is a trivia game where everything is worded awkwardly so that the answers start with “what is” and the questions don’t have question marks. It doesn’t change the nature of the questions in any way, it’s just a pointless novelty to make them seem more interesting than they are. You pick from a list of categories and difficulties – if you don’t know much about one of the chosen categories, tough.
Tumblr media
Typing out on the N64 is particularly awkward. It helps you by filling in the “what is/are” part so you just put in the answer (making it more obvious that it’s just a regular quiz show). You can set it to accept incorrect spellings or to show you potential answers. On the flip side, computer players type so fast you can’t see what they’re doing.
It’s a basic trivia game – but that’s all it’s trying to be.
To be able to answer Jeopardy’s questions you need to have enough sense to not spend pounds on a glorified quiz book.
- Paul O’Donovan, N64 Magazine #16
Remake or Remaster?
Like Wheel of Fortune, classic games should be in a Jackbox-style collection.
Official Ways to get the game
There’s no official way to play Jeopardy on N64

(1-15 albums etc that I've listened to this year, copied from twitter) (now with art.) (media version) Jan [1] Feb [2] [3] Mar [4] [5] [6] Apr [7] [8] May [9] [10] [11] Jun [12] [13] [14] Jul [15] Aug [16] [17] [18] [19] Sep [20] [21] [22] Oct [23] [24] Nov [25] [26] Dec [27] [28]
names and thoughts below cut
1/ Ken Ishii - Flatspin (2000) this dude has a really lovely synth style that feels just right every time.
---
2/ (every Dream Wave Project release from 2001) golly, I don't like trance, especially from around the turn of the century! anyway I wonder if this y2k trance netlabel will have anything good. (<- clueless) somehow there were a few bangers tho. Link-D innerflux? top notch.
---
3/ DJ Technorch & 九十九音夢 – Strong Anthropic Principle (2016) holy shit tracks 1 and 3 immediately jumped into my fav of all time list EZ. the m1dy remix is ace too but wow tough competition.
---
4/ maj7jam - cover ring III (2023) wall to wall slappers. (I'm on here too!) its a variety thing so i cant rly summarize it but... big favs: "Dear Siren" "dissociate for frogs" "blank disquette" how did a remix of my tune turn into the funkiest thing here? hot damn
---
5/ かたぎり – かたぎりは電気狐の夢を見るか? (2021) feels like its been a while since ive chewed on some breakcore. this one's delicious. I love that rapidly changing textural stuff. "Code Name: Romeo" and "Stray Cat Syndrome". is there a name for that technique? good stuff
---
6/ Nav Katze - Never Mind The Distortion (1996) ive been thinking about checking out the original albums that afx's "26 mixes for cash" were pulled from. idk if i'll continue the trend, but this one was well worth the listen. lovely late-era bleep sound all around
---
7/ Paradigm Shift - Paradigm Shift (1995) from a rabbit hole of recommendations: "it's good i promise". and yep. it's GOOD. slightly chilled chemical breaks. considering the date and long-lasting freshness I'm kinda surprised this isn't more highly acclaimed.
---
8/ Faith Massive - Drum & Bass for the Masses (1998) more from the rabbit hole. I have a soft spot for mid-to-late 90s liquid dnb, and this hits that spot for me. the synths in "Downtreader" especially.
---
9/ Todd Edwards - Full On, Vol. 1 (2001) endless high quality chops. it's one of those styles that still sounds futuristic in a way.
---
10/ Orbital - The Altogether (2001) i wonder why i skipped this when i was digging through orbital's stuff. (listens) oh. because it doesn't click with me. [some of] the remixes on the associated singles are a bit better tho.
---
11/ DJ Krush - Reload (The Remix Collection) (2001) kinda a mixed bag, which is to be expected for a collection (of remixes) "Maiden Voyage" hits just right tho
---
12/ Capitol K - Notes From Life On The Wire With A Wrecking Ball (2008) i love Capitol K's soundscapes but I'm very particular about vocals. these vocals DO NOT vibe with me :( there are a few instrumental tracks, luckily for me
---
13/ Wevie Stonder - Drawing On Other People's Heads (2001) feels like a turntablism thing but... drum machine? akai? idk. a little different. i do kinda think the vocal samples are excessive, but not enough to throw out the entire album yknow?
---
14/ Hol Bauman - Human (2008) surprisingly haunting.
--- February ---
15/ VA - We Are Friends, Vol. 11 (2023) this year, im planning to [try 2] keep up with new releases from artists/labels i like. this is the first one that really hit me tho. which is cool bc mau5trap is... usually so-so imo. highlights: "Another Day", "I Like Math", "11:11"

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 16/09/2023 (Olivia Rodrigo, V, Leigh-Anne/Ayra Starr)
Content warning: Brief sex references
For a second week, Doja Cat grabs the #1 with “Paint the Town Red” - welcome back to REVIEWING THE CHARTS!
Tumblr media
Rundown
As always, we start every episode of this show - however much of a non-event - with our notable dropouts, songs exiting the UK Top 75, which is what I cover, after five weeks in the region or a peak in the top 40. We don’t have much here but they are some heavy-hitters we say farewell to: “Pink” by Lizzo, “I Can See You” by Taylor Swift, “Padam Padam” by Kylie Minogue and finally, “People” by Libianca
As for our gains and returns, outside of the top 40, not much happened in this week’s chart, and even then, the top 40 happenings are mostly new entries. We do see Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” at #74, and as for our gains, we do see some notable boosts for “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan featuring Maggie Roggers at #45, "DNA (Loving You)" by Billy Gillies featuring Hannah Boleyn at #43, "City Boys" by Burna Boy at #23 and "Strangers" by Kenya Grace at #12.
This week’s top five of the UK Singles Chart actually had some decent change-up, particularly “Prada” by casso, RAYE and D-Block Europe at #5, “adore u” by Fred again.. and Obongjayar at #4, “bad idea right?” and “vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo off the album boost to #3 and #2 respectively - more on that later - and of course, Doja at #1. Now that’s out of the way, I suppose it’s time to talk about the new songs that entered this week.
NEW ARRIVALS
#55 - “Water” - Tyla
Produced by Sammy Sosa
That was a short introduction, wasn’t it? Usually the rundown is at least a bit longer, but this may be a short episode in general. We do have around seven new songs, but I can already tell not many of them will warrant all that much discussion. Anyway, whoever the Hell Tyla is, she definitely isn’t the Creator, because this song has many other writers, including names familiar to me like Tricky Stewart and Ari PenSmith. It’s not often that an R&B song, which it seems to be by the credits, blows up without name recognition here in the UK, except for like… Eamon but we don’t want him back so I was wondering how this would sound and… turns out it’s really good. It’s a lot funkier than I expected, going off a faster-paced almost dancefloor-ready house groove accentuated by Afrobeats-sounding percussion, in a style known as amapiano - we might have covered it here before. Hailing from South Africa, Tyla isn’t the most unique singer but she has enough little inflections to function within the pretty minimal song, even if there’s a bit more Auto-Tune than I’d want. Regardless, the harmonies are the tightest thing here, as the song is otherwise pretty loose and fun: not everything is perfectly on-beat, there’s random stray snares, cute 808 patterns mixed really low in the chorus and flailing vocal loops just developing outside of an otherwise set-in-stone sex jam, which is an approach I can appreciate for this “let’s make love right now, no questions asked” kind of content. That choir vocal chorus is absolutely infectious and even if the mix gets a bit muddier by the end, I think that actually makes the song feel more intimate and in tune with itself. The song isn’t exactly fully developed, I feel, and could use a proper climax bridge but is otherwise a pretty decent track I’m honestly surprised is here though I could see it lasting a lot longer. Just a bonus thought, I’d also love to hear Doechii on this. Remix, anyone?
#52 - “Tip Toes” - Clavish and Aitch
Produced by WhYJay and LiTek
Clavish making a song with Aitch is like Snorlax making a song with shiny Snorlax at this point. Aitch at one time was a charming, kind of obnoxious nuisance but he and ArrDee alike have quickly become indistinguishable rap stars. And Clavish, well… it’s Clavish. I did say last week that I’d like more 2000s G-Unit-type beats in British hip hop and this does deliver on that trend, with the stock steel pans and faux-luxurious pianos under a clapping beat that is overall pretty good. I’ll admit, WhYJay and LITek did a good job here, no-one else did. Clavish says a whole lot of nothing talking about girls, and well, at least Aitch says that he doesn’t do crypto. That’s… reassuring, I guess. He’s on full bore mode here though, just being dull and gross as usual. The hook isn’t even all that memorable, even if it at least has a much more substantial melody than a lot of UK rap hooks, so it might get stuck in my head. As a whole though, this is just not engaging at all to me.
#35 - “Bongos” - Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion
Produced by DJ SwanQo, Breyan Isaac and We Good
I’m sure a lot of people were expecting a sequel to “WAP” for this one and it most certainly took some people aback by not sounding like it at all. Sure, compositionally, it’s there - there’s a looping vocal sample, the song is structurally nonexistent and bass-focused but on the surface level, considering how it actually sounds, the two are night-and-day. For one, the vocal sample this time is a complete fragment under what sounds to me like a Brazilian funk beat, or maybe a dembow track, but still a minimal, incredibly annoying one, which is a shame because Cardi’s pretty fun on here with basic but memorable punchlines and sassy lines accentuated by her no-darns-given demeanour, which is kind of needed given the complete lack of a hook, and the fact that none of the dirty lyrics are remotely surprising anymore. Then Megan comes in, steals the show with an impeccable flow and commandeering presence on the track that almost makes the beat sound good. Truth is, just like “WAP”, without the overwhelming video, this song is just kind of nothing. By the end, Cardi’s repeating herself as much as the beat and Megan’s presence winds down into sharing verses and ad-libs, so it’s like one shining moment in a whole lot of sludge. Again, whilst it sounds nothing like “WAP”, I pretty much have the same opinion on it. Huh.
#34 - “Angry” - The Rolling Stones
Produced by watt
Oh, hey, the Rolling Stones! When’s the last time they charted? Must have been decades ago. Oh, 2020? Well, damn, nevermind then. This is their first time in the top 40 since 2005, though even that seems a bit recent. I guess these guys are still kicking in a major way… I never got them. I don’t think I like a single song from them that I’ve heard past “Paint it, Black” and that is including their other big hits. They’re one of the most legendary rock bands of all time, but I simply cannot get into them. Their newest single, propelled into the top 40 thanks to a livestream with Jimmy Fallon - wow, that aged quickly - is probably the worst place to start but it is produced by watt, who since working with Post Malone has kind of styled himself as a modern rock producer for older bands, and as you’d expect for a song by an aging rock band from the 60s written with a modern pop producer, it sounds completely competent and serviceable with very little risks. I will admit that riff is kind of incredible in just how simple yet earwormy it is, but the drums feel flat, the content isn’t exactly compelling and whilst Mick Jagger’s voice doesn’t so much signs of aging, it’s not like he wasn’t a nasal annoyance to begin with. That chorus especially feels like it has an unnecessary pop swell that could have been replaced with the drums going double-time or a crunchier guitar, something that would really make this rock, you know? This band would probably complain about songs on the radio not going hard enough, and I know their audience definitely does, but this one goes about as hard as a jaffa cake fresh out the box. I’ll give it to the Jagger-Richards writing duo though, they can still write catchy and sometimes just bizarre songs. “I’m still taking the pills and I’m off to Brazil”? You’re just gonna let that lyric sit there in the outro? Not rhyming it with anything even? Alright, man.
#28 - “My Love” - Leigh-Anne featuring Ayra Starr
Produced by PRGRSHN, Khristopher Riddick-Tynes, Alex Goldblatt and Magicsticks
Leigh-Anne’s follow-up to “Don’t Say Love” actually landing in the top 40 was kind of a surprise to me but she has more potential than Ms. Nelson so I’m not exactly complaining that she’s the solo act with at least a little longevity out of Little Mix. She even brings on Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, who I tend to like, so this could easily end up as a good song, though maybe not matching up to the Timberlake-T.I. collaboration of the same name (plug my 2006 list here)… and I mean, yeah, of course it is. The distant synth lead is backed by a slick guitar in a mix that eventually embraces all the elements of a good Afrobeats song: the layered percussion constantly bordering on both chill and tense, the choir vocals that are always just a winner for me, it’s all here. In fact, Leigh-Anne and Ayra Starr do a little back-and-forth throughout pretty much the entire song and it’s wonderful. The song’s lyrics are where it might miss out just a bit, largely because there’s nothing too unique or poetic about the love she’s giving here, even if the very female-centred perspective is refreshing. I’m more focused on how well the ladies’ vocals blend, the way they play off the bass and rhythm so tightly, the echoing backing vocal from Ms. Starr in the chorus, the breathy ad-libs after the first chorus that just flutter effortlessly off of the drums, pretty much everything else. This is a rather detailed song in terms of throwing a lot of proven pop and Afrobeats tropes but with immense sound design, and the production here from the quartet we have is genuinely impressive, not that our performers aren’t, because Leigh-Anne kills it with her bombast and Ayra is the perfect vocalist to play off that, because of how relaxed as well as just slick and fast she can be at her best, cool dripping off her constantly. This is an excellent song through and through so I’m glad it’s here - whether it’ll last has yet to be seen, and since “Don’t Say Love” tumbled second week, I have my concerns but I hope this continues to chart because it’s fantastic.
#24 - “Slow Dancing” - V
Produced by freekind. and FRNK
Our latest BTS member to chart with a solo hit, this is V, who recently released his debut solo EP, Layover, this being one of the singles it produced. Once again, I find myself kind of at odds with the direction BTS members are going in, with this feeling like a bit too programmed version of a smooth R&B song, which V doesn’t fit just as well as he wants to. Now I’m still a sucker for smooth R&B jams so I end up still liking the melodious elements of this, like those cheesy strings and the jauntling keys jammed under a pretty remote, stagnant-sounding drum pattern. In fact, the chorus just worsens it, as I’ve yet to fully understand why the synth his producers chose sounds like a video game sound font for a glass or smoke sound effect instead of, you know, a synth. V’s performance isn’t bad, even if it’s stuck between sounding like other guys - YUMDDA and Joji come to mind - and being so laidback that it kind of stifles much of the emotion - so it gets off the intimacy pretty okay and… okay, that flute is beautiful. That flute solo is incredibly gorgeous and has no business being in such a song. It caught me way off guard originally and honestly it’s such a shame there aren’t punchier organic drums or an actually bearable synth for it to lay upon. I did listen to the “piano version” out of curiosity - it is considerably worse thanks to the lack of flute, but is mostly the same and suffers from a lot of the same problems, just being kind of identity-less, lacking in second drafts. I wish I could like this more but yeah, it’s not it for me. Sorry.
#7 - “get him back!” - Olivia Rodrigo
Produced by Dan Nigro, Alexander 23 and Ian Kirkpatrick
The intro to this song is Alexander 23 asking if it’s “the song with the drums”. What do you mean, the song with the drums? You made a rock album, Mr. 23, most of the songs have drums. Anyway, I think it’s no surprise that O-Rod’s #1 album GUTS did not appeal to me, as the teen melodrama didn’t wear off whilst a lot of the rawer pop catharsis I feel has, replaced with a sheen that wants to be taken off by sheer emotion but just never finds it footing as anything else other than a faint desire. There’s something raucous and real in here, it’s just not coming out thanks to clumsy (yet unique and very easily recognisable) writing, softened blows of buzzy production that only fully rip on occasion and honestly shoddy sequencing. “get him back!” is a pretty good example, given the drums and fuzz that would go harder if it weren’t for O-Rod being the Beastie Boys for Gen Z girls for whatever reason in those verses, and a kind of bratty chorus that just doesn’t resonate with me on any significant level. I understand it fits with the pathetic, vengeful content, but it’s also just not something I’m going to appreciate, especially not with those faint “ohs” in the verses that seem like last-minute attempts to add a distinct melody, and a bridge that started as a cool a capella idea and ends up as just a mess, not consolidating into the uppercut she mentions because of how she’s not front-and-center in that weak final chorus, and the… can you call it a guitar solo if it’s basic, I can barely hear it, and it’s drowned out by rambling? This isn’t my thing, probably never will be and it’s a shame because I can tell everyone involved is talented, I just don’t think this is ever going to appeal to me. I did like the opener though, and “pretty isn’t pretty”, mostly because I feel like they had a bit more to say. Otherwise, yeah, I’m not a fan.
Conclusion
I might just be getting old - I feel like the amount of songs I consider middling has increased a lot in the past couple months. With that said, nothing here is bad so I probably have to half-sincerely give Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion the Dishonourable Mention for “Bongos”, even though the song’s mostly just decently pestering, whilst Worst of the Week goes to “get him back!” by Olivia Rodrigo, as you should probably expect by now. It’s the only song this week I feel actively fails at what it’s trying to do. The best falls out a lot easier: Best of the Week goes to Leigh-Anne for “My Love” featuring Ayra Starr - by far - and the Honourable Mention ends up going to Tyla with “Water”, I think I’ll check out more of her stuff. For now though, thanks for reading. I’ll see you next week!

RANK BANGTAN'S 34 TITLE TRACKS!
@joon-rkive tagged me in the hardest challenge i've ever had DFKJDJSF no but i enjoy it a lot, thanks baby!!
DISCLAIMER: I strongly believe BTS has one of the few non-skippable discographies and I really love every single song they've released and this list order can change almost every single day. Also they outdid the entire kpop industry i don’t even care
1. FILM OUT
Literal chills every single time I listen to it. The chorus always has me on tears, it's that little thing they do with [Kimi dake wo hiroi atsumete tsunagete] that kills me every.single.time. I'm sure it's gonna be in my top 10 in my spotify wrapped cuz at some point of the year I got obsessed.
2. SPRING DAY - 봄날
I’m sure this one is pretty self-explanatory, considering it might be BTS' best song in their entire discography. For some reason it stayed in the charts for so long.
3. BLACK SWAN
I put BS so high mostly because this fandom completely forgot about it (don’t worry I blame the pandemic mostly). Every single aspect of this song is literal art, from the lyrics to the beauty of the music video.
4. BUTTER
I’m an english-BTS-songs stan forever and ever, no english song can make me hate their discography and it includes these songs. Butter is the queen of their english era idec anymore, it hypes the shit out of me whenever I listen to it and whoever hates it can suck my di-
5. BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS
The reasons for this one? Idek, it scratches my brain in the best way ever.
6. AIRPLANE PT. 2
I like how it builds and the choreo. It also reminds me to my favorite BTS era ever.
7. FIRE
Hypes the shit out of me for good. I can’t stop watching the MV.
8. DANGER
I’m putting it high mostly because I denied this song for years (i’m stupid, don’t ask why) and when I finally made up my mind I hated myself for never listening to it. Good one for real and it hits so well
9. IDOL
BRING ME BACK TO THIS ERA GODDAMIT. That's all I can say really. No, kidding. The teaser already was perfect then the whole traditional instruments and the craziness of the beats just makes me wanna jump off a balcony (i’m in my charly garcia era)
10. HEARTBEAT
I’m not sure where to put this one but there's that one part, the bridge, makes this song rise automatically.
11. ON
Another hype one, it's lower than heartbeat because the bridge doesn't hit as much but overall I love listening to it.
12. MIC DROP
Can easily be put lower if you ask me. It's here because it was the first song I heard of them and the memories gives it that plus.
13. JUST ONE DAY
I learnt korean with this one SKDFLS no but seriously, yoongi's verse and the "yoongi-ah" gets me every single time. Could listen to it forever and ever honestly.
I think it was one of the first songs I listened after getting into them and that also gives it like a plus extra of reasons to be this high. Either way, it goes on so well and also the lyric and beat play with I'm Fine makes the original even better.
14. DYNAMITE
I don’t get how y'all can hate this one. I hate the remixes but the song builds so sweetly and their voices sound pretty cool with it. I like the retro style and the dance breaks for the choreos were so interesting and different. That's why I like it, it was different to other styles and their english voices are nice to hear every once in a while.
15. LIFE GOES ON
My mom calls this one the pandemic song and I laugh every single time. I think the comfort this song gives me makes it sound so good. It's always about the feelings their songs give me what makes me like them more or less. That happens with LGO
16. YET TO COME
MAKES ME CRY SM I really got freaked out thinking they were saying goodbye. Took me a bit to fully get into it and the hyundai version helped a lot.
17. SAVE ME
I think it was one of the first songs I listened after getting into them and that also gives it like a plus extra of reasons to be this high. Either way, it goes on so well and also the lyric and beat play with I'm Fine makes the original even better.
18. DOPE
AYO LADIES AND GENTLEMEEEEEN this is their queen of hype songs.
19. NO MORE DREAM
I only hate that weird sound at the beginning of the song and this kind of hip hop is not really my thing. It's higher than WABPT2 because aw they debuted lksdfsdkf
20. WE ARE BULLETPROOF PT. 2
It makes me laugh a lot for some reason, I just picture them trying hard to be bad boys in the recording studio and I laugh a bit. Anyways rapper jungkook is a FAVE.
21. FAKE LOVE
My first comeback omg. I remember the problem called "they all dyed their hair the same fucking color". Anyways, I prefer the rock version for some reason and I feel the song would have been better if it was that one the OG version. Also the "fakey" love part kind of still bugs me but overall I love this song.
22. I NEED U
I know how much it means to them but I can listen to it every once in a while. Not my favorite but easily one of their best songs. It builds very strongly.
23. RUN
Like DNA (yeah I have many situations like this), I love the song but I enjoy it mostly while watching the MV or a live performance.
24. NOT TODAY
HYPEEE. But again, like DNA, the choreo kind of outdoes the song for me. I like to watch the mv and listen to the song that way than only listening to the song.
25. EPILOGUE: YOUNG FOREVER
Only dropped it so low because I cry whenever I listen to it. Other than that, it could easily be higher. I just stopped listening to it cuz I genuinely can’t stop crying, I never get to finish the song
26. PERMISSION TO DANCE
Not their strongest english song KJFKDSJ if it wasn't sounding so high school musical-ish I would put it higher. I do adore the sign language dance move and how happy they look while performing it. Also, catchy as fuck anyways.
27. DNA
Probably goes low because I might have overplayed it a bit. With this one I priorize the music video and choreo over the song itself. They kind of outdo it.
28. STAY GOLD
Took me a bit to get into it because the chorus bothered me a bit, when all the voices kind of overslap each other while singing different lines (never my favorite type of resource during a song, happens to with Kiss of Fire by Hugh Laurie tho I love that song) but it's still good.
29. BOY IN LUV
I was never a huge fan of this one but I did have my obsession phase when I got into them. I like these songs were Taehyung would rasp his voice a bit tho I'm glad he's using it more like he did with Singularity.
30. BOY WITH LUV
I love Halsey but I felt she ruined the song even though she barely participates anyways. However, I only really enjoy Suga's verse. The song isn't bad but I got tired of it (enough to rank it this low, it still outdid the entire kpop industry idc)
31. N.O.
It was never a song I played too much for some reason. I do enjoy the chorus and oh shit the lyrics, I love their rebellious era.
32. WAR OF HORMONES
I had a phase where I listened to it religiously but after that I sort of stopped LKDLKS. It's still very catchy.
33. LIGHTS
Never really listened to it much, maybe only a couple of times.
34. FOR YOU.
Never really listened to it much, maybe only a couple of times. Before Lights and For You I prefer their B-sides.
i don’t know many armys i think i’m gonna tag @peachy-101 @christina-dh @jieunssi @senor-hoberto @jungkooks-princess @latenightjjk @sinatserendipity

Improved sprites for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Doctor Eggman, Super Sonic and the HUD elements
Eggrobo Goal Plate
Extra player character slots for Mighty, Ray, Amy and Metal Sonic

VOCALOID LEGENDS - 2019 Part 1
#452 - Hello Dystopia (mafumafu) [Kagamine Rin, Len]
Achievement Date: 19-01-14, Upload Date: 18-05-25
Mafumafu’s song always feels like the modernized version of Golden Age rock classics, and sometimes it works and other times, it feels a bit corny. I’m not sure it’s supposed to be this corny, but maybe that’s because I feel like the ideas here are time-limited. The bridge is pretty good, though, and there’s nothing wrong with the production.
#453 - Ojama Mushi (DECO*27) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-01-24, Upload Date: 14-02-14
Probably the most cutest song written by DECO*27, to the point it is frequently avoided by cool artists. I kind of think this was DECO trying to do HoneyWorks and beating them, as DECO tends to do because he’s kind of like that. Bafu Bafu Nya Nya…
#454 - Retro Mania Rhapsody (PolyphonicBranch) [Kagamine Rin, Len]
Achievement Date: 19-01-25, Upload Date: 16-12-09
Another COMPASS song, a song in the style of Jesus-P, although PolyphonicBranch is already close anyway. The song feels a bit hazy than Jesus-P’s song for some reason, the variety doesn’t gel very well, although it’s still pretty impressive.
#455 - Heart a la Mode (DECO*27) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-01-31, Upload Date: 14-10-03
Song written for a Coca Cola’s coffee brand, the intro definitely reminds you of that Taylor Swift song, or just modern country-infused pop song, which is something very different from your typical influence. It’s not bad given its influence.
#456 - Otome Dissection (DECO*27) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-02-07, Upload Date: 19-01-18
DECO*27 does it again once more. Seriously, how many times DECO has done ‘it’? Someone talked about how its fame comes from instrumental production and I think that’s very much true, perhaps the tightest production since ryo. The crank at the background mixes well with the amazing guitar, both acoustic and synth.
#457 - Additional Memory (Jin) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-02-13, Upload Date: 18-09-14
Speaking of good production… Probably one of the songs most pregnant with meaning and passion, and a surprise return of Miku into the Kagerou Project. I really think this is Jin at its best, and showed the potential of what the project can do… a bit too late.
#458 - Ai Kotoba III (DECO*27) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-02-16, Upload Date: 18-10-08
Back to DECO*27 with one of the more impressive versions yet, and I think the most familiar version, and the full band sound makes me think of this song as the prelude to the ‘19 period. Perhaps the best on its own? Maybe it’s my nostalgia, but I think ‘III’ is the peak and the rest will just be a remix, a very good remix though…
#459 - MACARON (ATOLS) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-02-19, Upload Date: 12-08-10
I swear this is just a song about eating macaron, there are no hidden messages or whatever. ATOLS writes songs like that. I think one of the most memorable intros of the lesser-known songs of this list, and the powerful trance just continues throughout the song without any stops or breaks. Quite a testament and journey.
#460 - UNDER CONSTRUCTION (Kenma-P) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-02-24, Upload Date: 15-04-19
It’s a bit loud, and the progression is very odd, all that diminished chords… very odd but interesting song from a lesser-known producer in a lesser known year. The lyrics also vacillate between a kind of ‘freedom’ song and twisted ‘trapped’ song and it’s odd.
#461 - Nobody Makes Sense (PinocchioP) [Hatsune Miku]
Achievement Date: 19-02-26, Upload Date: 17-04-04
A song about losing all meaning in the meaningless world, some say it’s a follow-up to I’m Glad You’re Evil, and perhaps it takes the philosophy to a world at large, talking about how the world made things bland and indistinguishable. Cool production.
#462 - Leaping at Shadows (Umetora) [Luka, Miku, GUMI, IA, Rin]
Achievement Date: 19-02-28, Upload Date: 14-06-13
The third version of the four-letter-word ‘series’, and I think the most clean version of the three, but I think it is one of my favorites. My listening is just corrupted by Kuzuha’s version, though. Again, Umetora songs are group songs covered by a single person…

Tumblr media
I saw this image on Twitter and since I am completely incapable of having normal feelings about video game music, I went into a fugue state and wrote nearly 2000 words about my favorite tracks.
The image has Spotify codes if the song is on Spotify, and QR codes to the songs on YouTube if not.
I also remixed the prompts a little because I didn't have stuff for all the original ones and I didn't have the patience to space it out over 30 days lol. I very much did not do hard mode because I love Darren Korb's music too much. Template, rambles, and honorable mentions under the cut.
Title screen music - Katamari on the Rocks - Katamari Damacy
Is it possible for a song to go harder, to bang more severely in the seconds after a game loads than in this game? I think not. Katamari Damacy is a wild fever dream, and this title screen song launches you straight into it.
Opening level music - First Steps - Celeste
All of Lena Raine’s music for Celeste is wonderful, but the first level holds this amazing tone of eagerness, hopefulness, and accomplishment all at once. Honorable mention to “Timber Hearth” from Outer Wilds and “Instrument of Surrender” from Disco Elysium.
8-bit or 16-bit music - Overworld Theme 1 - Super Mario Bros. 3
I’m very much a new-school gamer, so some of these categories were tough for me. But one of my earliest gaming memories was playing SMB 3 on my friend's Gameboy Advance SP, and this track takes me right back there.
Music from a console exclusive - FitBeat - Beat Saber
Is VR an exclusive console? I’m counting it. Honestly I’m pretty ‘meh’ about most of the original Beat Saber tracks, but this one gets you moving.
Hub/overworld music - In Case of Trouble - Bastion
Bastion’s music is extremely special to me, and this song is both the title theme and the music you hear whenever you return to the Bastion itself. It’s soothing and restful while also being cheery; it’s the perfect background to upgrade your weapons, drink some potions, and listen to the dulcet tones of Logan Cunningham’s voice before setting out again.
Relaxing music - St. Eriksplan - Death Stranding
All of Death Stranding’s soundtrack (mostly by Low Roar) is incredibly relaxing; Low Roar is one of the few bands whose music I can listen to while working even though it has lyrics. The songs usually played in-game when you were on a final approach to your destination, often after sneaking tensely through a field of BTs or traversing rough terrain, and they were a breath out in the forbidding, empty landscape of the game. Honorable mention to ”Florence” from Florence, “Time for Stocktake” from Wilmot’s Warehouse, and “Camp Approach” from Firewatch.
Music from an indie game - INFRA BRAD - Extreme Meatpunks Forever: Bound by Ash
Most of the music I listen to is from indie games, so I opted for a very obscure one. I got the first Extreme Meatpunks Forever game in an itch.io bundle, and although the combat was clunky and the art was a little rough, the story and world-building were so compelling that I bought the sequel Bound By Ash. The sequel improves on the original in every way, and the music absolutely slaps. I almost went with “On Our Way”, an acoustic song that’s part of a wonderful emotional beat in the middle of the story, but decided on “INFRA BRAD”. This game is all about punching fascists, and this music sure gets you to that headspace!
Music from a shooter (1st or 3rd person) - Clip Joint Calamity - Cuphead
Cuphead is a shooter don’t @ me. All of Cuphead’s music is ‘30s-’40s style big band, and the aesthetic is impeccable. This one is from a very satisfying fight in the first part of the game, and I think it captures the environment really well.
Music from a licensed game - Milk Chocolate (End) - M&Ms The Lost Formulas
I don’t know how this game ended up in our house - probably an old Scholastic sale - but it was a staple of our childhood. It’s a surprisingly decent Crash Bandicoot clone with blatant M&Ms branding splashed all over it, and even as kids my sister and I were impressed by the soundtrack. We only finished the game once or twice, so we played the first few levels over and over a lot - this is the theme from the final section of the second level, and it’s always been one of my favorites.
RPG battle music - Take Control - Control
Again, playing fast and loose with the definition of RPG here. (It has RPG elements!) This isn’t quite a music-based boss battle - it’s arguably not even a boss battle - but it’s one of the coolest sequences in this game chock-full of cool sequences.
Puzzle game music - Reconstructing More Science - Portal 2
The Portal games were some of the most personally influential games I’ve ever played, and to me this track really captures the perfect balance of chaotic action and pensive puzzle-solving in Portal 2. Honorable mention to the “Puzzle Solved” tune from OneShot and “Customer Service” from Wilmot’s Warehouse.
Music that makes you sad - 14.3 Billion Years - Outer Wilds
Outer Wilds is one of the most emotionally affecting games I’ve ever played, and suffice to say this is one of the last songs you hear in your playthrough. This song truly makes me have to stop and catch my breath every time I hear it. Honorable mention to "Turn Back" from The Beginner's Guide.
Music you like from a game you don’t like - Light of Nibel - Ori and the Blind Forest
Ori is a peak “just because I don’t like this game doesn’t mean it’s bad” game. It's objectively a great game! I am simply not a metroidvania person, and my struggle to enjoy the gameplay dampened my reaction to the story. But the music is absolutely outstanding, and I listen to it regularly.
Music with vocals - Good Riddance - Hades
There are lots of songs in Supergiant Games’ repertoire with vocals; honestly, I don’t even think this is the best one. But the gameplay experience of battling through the Underworld over and over, relentlessly and brutally punished, and then emerging cautiously into a room to hear this song floating to you… it was pretty incomparable. (This is the duet version, but the solo versions are also beautiful.) Honorable mention to “Mourning Song” from Pyre and  “In Circles”, “Paper Boats”, and “We All Become” from Transistor.
Boss battle music - Leshy’s Theme - Inscryption
Inscryption was another game I had complicated feelings about, but what I didn’t have complicated feelings about was that the aesthetic was on point. The art, sound design, and music are all incredible. This is the theme of the Act 1 final boss battle, and it feels like it picks you up and drops you right back into Leshy’s cabin.
Music that makes you laugh - A Terrible Fate - Outer Wilds
When you get certain non-canon endings to Outer Wilds, you get rewarded by this “oops all kazoos” rendition of the title theme! Honorable mention to “wavedash.ppt” from Celeste.
Music you never get tired of - Spike in a Rail - Bastion
There’s a lot of Bastion on this list. It’s been over a decade since I first played Bastion, but this is another song that I sometimes just play on a loop two or three times so I can appreciate it fully. Honorable mention to “A Proper Story”, also from Bastion, and “Timber Hearth” from Outer Wilds.
Music in a game released the year you were born - Time Continuum - Putt-Putt Travels Through Time
I'm flexing the rules again - this game came out a few years after I was born, but it's truly the only game anywhere close to that timeframe I have any kind of connection to. This gets stuck in my head embarassingly often.
Cover of music by a different artist - Reflection - Center of the Earth Mix - Celeste
Heeeyyyyyy…YA! The Celeste B-Sides music are all remixes of the A-side tracks by various artists. I never got past the third B-side myself, but I now watch a fair amount of Celeste speedrunning and this is my favorite B-Side track.
Music from a racing game - Still Alive - Mirror’s Edge
Again, Mirror’s Edge counts as a racing game don’t @ me I needed to include this track somehow. This is not the “Still Alive” you’re expecting! This track also gets me a little misty - it’s the end credits song of the first Mirror’s Edge, and it really gets the nostalgia going.
Music you associate with frustration - Always Been But Never Dreamed - Tetris Effect
This is the song in the last level of Journey mode in Tetris Effect, which is over twice as long as any other level. I am not very good at Tetris. It’s a fine song, although I prefer most of the rest of the soundtrack - “Connected (Yours Forever)” is less associated with frustration for me. Honorable mention to “Floral Fury” from Cuphead.
Town/village music - 11 AM - Animal Crossing New Horizons
I mean… that's village music, baby! When I was logging onto ACNH every day, 10-11AM was usually my time.
Underrated music - Burn, Baby, Burn - Disco Elysium
There are so many praise-worthy parts of Disco Elysium that I think the music often gets overlooked. But it's wonderful, moody and ethereal, a perfect bed for the substantial weight of the rest of the game. This song plays just before the final section of the game, and provides a welcome respite between emotionally intense sequences. Honorable mention to “In the Flame” from Pyre.
Music constantly stuck in my head - Bosun Bill - Sea of Thieves
I never even played Sea of Thieves, but I've watched enough of it that this is now my go-to humming tune. I don't usually get much of anything stuck in my head, but this one sticks.
Music that pumps you up - Knights of the Sea - Pyre
Pyre is probably the least loved/most underrated of Supergiant Games’ oeuvre, but (controversial opinion) I liked it more than Transistor, and (uncontroversial opinion) the music still fuckin' slams. A lot of the individual Triumvirates' themes from this game pump you up (I also recommend “Thrash Pack”), but this one has that unmistakable nautical/pirate theme with just a touch of absurdity - deeply befitting the wyrm-knights it represents. Honorable mention to “The River” from Outer Wilds and “The Painful Way” from Hades.
Music you like from a game you haven’t played - Wooded Kingdom - Super Mario Odyssey
Again, slight bending of the category - I have played some of SMO, but I've watched much more of it than I've played, and at this rate it's pretty unlikely that I'll ever finish it. I tend to not listen to music from games I haven't played, since for me a lot of the emotional punch is lost if I'm already familiar with the soundtrack. But in any case, this is such a unique theme for a Mario game. It's so funky!
Music that makes you go “whoa! how did they do that?” - Scattered and Lost - Celeste
This isn’t the only Celeste track that builds on old themes as it goes on - “Reach for the Summit” is another amazing one - but this song brings in new instruments and new elements as you complete each section of the level, and does it so dynamically and smoothly. Honorable mention to “Bound Together” from Pyre, which changes dynamically to thousands of different combinations depending on the choices you made throughout your playthrough.
Music that makes you nostalgic - Ground Scape - RuneScape
To me this is the iconic RuneScape music, and I would put this track on loop all the time while playing. Honorable mention to “Far Horizons” from Skyrim.
Final boss music - God of the Dead - Hades
This 9-minute monster of a track is just non-stop adrenaline. You've come so far to face the final boss, and every phase of the boss is signaled by a new, faster, more intense portion of the song.
Credits music - Setting Sail, Coming Home - Bastion
One more Bastion song - this was the one everyone talked about when talking about this soundtrack. Apparently it was recorded by Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett in Darren's closet; as the studio's first game, they barely had a setup at all. Wild to think about after the scope of Hades. Honorable mention to “I’ll Keep Coming” and “Death Stranding” from Death Stranding, and “Want You Gone” from Portal 2.
Here's the template I created in case anyone wants to use it!

[S] Jade: Descend.
Try as you might, you can't stop your mind from drifting to the fate of your friends. You dwell on a particular configuration of REMINDERS on your finger.

Song used in this page: Harleboss by Malcolm Brown
Song commentary:
Malcolm Brown:
Harlequin was awesome, and was quite a popular source for remixing the theme (it still is) so this was my early attempt.
The soundfont is actually a FF6 SNES font I found somewhere (At lot of people got it from the choir). The SNES soundfont choice was taken from a kind of natural evolution the music was taking from the earlier Vol 1 8-bi to 16-bit style music.
Not much to say on this one except it was quite a stereotypical 'Epic' boss battle theme - Choirs, church organs, bells, guitar and fast drums.
Author commentary:
The particular configuration of reminders she's referring to is on her pinky, where two black strings sandwich a blue string. The blue one represents John, and the black ones represent the two ogres surrounding him. I guess she put those there so she could remind herself that in this point of the story, John is getting owned by a couple of ogres? That's definitely something she would want to remember, especially since she can't do anything about it, and doesn't do anything about it. But the point is, SHE REMEMBERED!
0:11 - Behold, the mighty pogo hammer. Once, John's dangerous childhood nemesis in the form of the backyard pogo ride. Now, a similarly self-jeopardizing implement of only marginal combat value. Just think how easily one misfiring BONG could send him launching off the roof, or maybe just send the hammer careening back in his face?
0:25 - Consider how poignant it is that John spends this infinitely looping battle getting demolished by familiar items from his childhood? First, getting clobbered by the huge heirloom joke book left to him by his grandma, and then getting lassoed by the old tire swing from his front yard, which surely brought him years of joy. How poignant is that? Way, way poignant.
0:33 - This is actually very similar to a move that someone does in an old Street Fighter game. I honestly don't remember if that's where I got the idea for it though. I probably just asked myself "how's a huge dude gonna take out some trash with a tire swing?" And correctly determined there was literally only one way it could be done.
0:36 - The Crude Ogres may be giant bullying assholes, but you really have to admire their teamwork.
0:44 - Nannasprite has healing powers of course. It's unclear whether other sprites have these powers, as she's the only one who exhibits them. But then, it makes sense that she would have these abilities, since in a different world she is the Maid of Life. There you go, some more dots were just connected for you. You now understand nearly 1% of Homestuck.
0:47 - The battle then loops like that eternally, with John being dealt the same savage beating only to be revived by Nannasprite and sent back in for more abuse. His suffering is limited only by your willingness to watch it for hours, or failing that, leaving it open in your browser and forgetting about it for days. :(
Makin: The tire swing attack Hussie mentioned was based on Birdie's Murderer Chain attack from the Street Fighter Alpha series.
