Sure!

I have three originals I hope to finish before I die (I started two, I was planning to start the other one after I'm done with this chapter of LOI I'm trying to finish off). All of them are untitled but I'll try to summarize the key plot concepts in a few sentences.

1. It's basically a children's story about my cat and, although it's still untitled, I was planning to title it based on a running joke about my cat being the Crown Prince of Ireland (it's a thing one of my closest friends and I came up with in middle school and we still laugh about it so, why not?).

2. It's a story set in the 196Os and it's about a girl with a dark backstory who ends up working as a secretary at the Justice Department. Her boss is a well-known politician (she hates him at first). She changes her mind about him and kinda falls in love with him (it's more of a crush tbh). Spoiler: he dies.

(I've written ten chapters so far but it needs to be edited and proofread).

3. I haven't starting writing yet, but it's about a very young king and his arranged marriage to a princess/lady (still have to work that out) he's never met before. Celtic/medieval/renaissance vibes.

SMIT shoots her a glare of displeasure. Not funny. His expression conveys, but his eyebrow is quirked up as he takes a long drag of his cigarette. It's not usually in his wife's nature to make a joke like that. Something that crass seems to come out of his own mouth most of the time.

SMIT:  Yes, but—  (he scoffs) the guy you killed deserved it. Plus, (...)

He stares at the cigarette butt between his fingers after pulling it away from his lips. His gaze is hard and judging. Contemplative as he chuckles bitterly to himself.

GUILTY. Smit Eubank knows he's as guilty as sin can be.

SMIT:  Self-defence, remember?  (...)  Mine was never in self-defence.

NOW, HUSBAND AND WIFE SIT IN SILENCE. The gentle breeze soothes the fear of what they left behind ...

Frederic Leighton’s 1895 painting Flaming June is currently on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is on loan from Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico, which is currently undergoing earthquake-related renovations.

From The Met’s website about the work-

According to Leighton, the composition was inspired by the posture of a tired model. He elaborated her sinuous pose and then added sheer orange draperies. Her skin flushed by the sun, she is transformed into a personification of summer heat. The image reflects Leighton’s allegiance to artistic ideals that emphasized harmonious color and form over narrative. This and Lachrymae (hanging nearby) were the last great pair of paintings he exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, in 1895. Critics raved, but tastes soon changed; Flaming June did not regain its fame until the Museo de Arte de Ponce acquired it in the 196os. The frame is a reconstruction of the lost original designed by the artist.

This work will be on view until February of 2024.
