it’s so weird how like. tumblr has its own linguistic rules? and not just in the shared use of slang/phrases or common topics of interest or whatever, there’s genuine unspoken rules of how tumblr posts are read/perceived that you only really know abt from just. being here over time and observing it.

the biggest example i can think of is how tumblr utilize reblogs as a form of punctuation. it indicates a pause to the reader and makes us register it differently than if everything had been in one original post.

like as an example: when i made this post, i knew from the moment i was typing the og post that i would reblog with the additions. i excluded adding the screenshots and the like to the original post! and instead did it as a reblog bc i thought it would be better comedic timing. but like. thats exactly it!!!! things like that IMPACT the comedic timing!!!

instead of being the content of the post, its like a snarky comment made by a friend. its like i came back later to evaluate what was said, or as a second thought tacked on-- theres this... implied distance from the original? that i dont think is really a concept shared on other social medias, i cant think of anything equivalent to it.

I do kinda ship Van Helsing and Dracula but in a way where they are extremely divorced. there is no actual love there on either side it’s just pure acrimony and absolute annoyance at the attraction. They’ve both tried to kill each other multiple times over the last 4 decades. Dracula sees other humans as playthings but Van Helsing is an adversary. Van Helsing could’ve successfully killed him the first time if he hadn’t suddenly remembered he was working on his dissertation and could really really really use that one rare book in Dracula’s library as reference material.
