Book 38 of 2022!
Tumblr media
⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Sandman, Vol 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
An occultist attempting to capture Death to bargain for eternal life traps her younger brother Dream instead. After his 70 year life imprisonment and eventual escape, Dream, also known as Morpheus, goes on a quest for his lost objects of power. On his arduous journey Morpheus encounters Lucifer, John Constantine, and an all powerful madman.
What Did I Think?
A review on Neil Gailman and “Sandman” feels a bit pointless but nontheless here it is! I wasn’t a fan of the art style but I think this was a fairly common art style for the time period this was written in. Also, while we’re on time periods, I thought it was impressive how diverse it was and how rare that probably was to find.
I read this because of the TV show (which I still haven’t got around to watching yet, I’m unsure if I should finish the comics first or just start watching the TV show anyway). I really enjoyed a majority of it. Some parts were a bit dull for me, and others were so imaginative and creepy. I can’t wait to eventually get to the other comics in the series.
Prompts:
Popsugar - “ Book Featuring a Parallel Reality”
52 Book Club - “Audiobook Narrated by the Author”

More from the reading challenges. Have you read any of these books?
More from the reading challenges. Have you read any of these books?
Hi there! With all the things that draw my attention, and as a family caregiver, I fell behind again! I am still reading, but more slowly, so I haven’t as many books to list here as I had hoped to have read by now. I also found that I am changing some around on my reading challenge lists, but since they are of my own choosing I can do that. Because it makes my lists not quite accurate for…

Book 9 of 2022!
Ghosts by Dolly Alderton
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nina arrives into her early thirties as a successful food writer with friends, family and living in a nice neighbourhood. When she meets Max, she feels like everything is slotting into place. Everywhere she turns, she feels time passing and opportunities dwindling. Friendships are fading, ex-boyfriends are moving on and, the worst of all, everyone is moving to the suburb’s. Her mum is losing it to a mid life crisis and her dad is losing it to dementia.
Content Warnings: dementia, toxic relationship and friendship, terminal illness
What Did I Think?
I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it, I think by the end I just felt like it was okay. I was increasingly frustrated with Nora’s actions although I did think they were probably realistic, real humans don’t make the wisest choices even when we know we know better. The resolution was weak but, again, perhaps more realistic than an ending with more things wrapped up. I also frequently thought Nora and Lola would be much happier if they gave up entirely and started dating each other. This book was almost painfully heteronormative in parts.
I thought some of the social commentary was great and I enjoyed the writing style so I’ll absolutely consider reading something else by this author in future if the synopsis appeals to me. I think I just went into this book with expectations that weren’t all met by the end.
Prompts:
Popsugar - “A Book With a Misleading Title”
52 Book Club Challenge - “Involves a Second Chance”

Book 8 of 2022!
The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nora has been a lot of girls. The daughter of a con artist who targets criminal men, Nora finally managed to pull the ultimate con: escape. For five years Nora has managed to dust off her skills due to her current problems; her ex walked in on her and her current girlfriend; the morning after, they all have to meet at the bank to drop off the fundraiser money, a nightmare that goes from awkward to deadly, because; right after they enter the bank, two guys start robbing it. The robbers have no idea who they’re really holding hostage.
Content Warnings: child abuse, domestic abuse, emotional abuse, sexual assault, gun violence, pedophilia, abortion
What Did I Think?
I loved the writing style, it was really fun and action packed. I read this pretty quickly, it was just so gripping and page turning. I know it had some flaws like I know that’s not really how banks work and how Nora spoke a lot about how she’s bad but a lot of the time the trauma got there before she could really show any of that, but I didn’t even mind them too much. I also really like the way trauma was represented throughout the book, it made me feel like the author has personal experience with parental trauma. I recommend it and I’m also so excited to see this become a movie with Millie Bobby Brown!
Prompts:
Fits Popsugar’s prompt of “A Book Becoming a Film or TV Series in 2022” (although that is not true anymore like originally thought)
For the 52 Book Club’s challenge, I went with “Recommended by a Favourite Author”
