Baela’s first thought, absurdly, was that the king looked much the same as he did now, even though that was only partially true. Young Aegon in the portrait was not thin, but he was a bit leaner than the king was now. His hair was shorter too, chin length rather than the shoulder length locks he now wore. And of course he was not scarred, not even a little bit. He stood straight, but not tall, nearly a head shorter than his brother, but taller than his sister. He wore a rich red tunic embroidered in gold thread at the collar and cuffs and belted at the waist. One hand rested upon his sister’s shoulder and the other rested upon the pommel of his sword. Curiously, there was a green glove on that hand. His sister was similarly clad in red, and the pair of them stood in the middle, a brother standing sentinel on either side. The one standing at Helaena's shoulder she recognized easily as Aemond One-Eye, and the other, standing beside Aegon, must have been Daeron, although Baela had never met him before. The boys wore deep green to their brother and sister’s red, and where Aegon wore golden rings set with red and green gems upon his fingers, and a jeweled chain draped across his chest, his brothers were dressed less ostentatiously. Chapter 3 is live!

Here is a little preview of what to expect in Chapter 3 of Our Fathers Clad in Red. It's a real behemoth of a chapter but @aifsaath and I are excited to start getting to the meaty parts!

“Unlike some, I am not a butcher of children.” Aegon said sharply. Baela watched him for any signs of duplicity, but she could find none. He seemed angry, even though Lannister’s words were those of a loyal supporter and made a sickening sort of sense. What good did it do to keep Aeg alive when all he did was give his mother’s supporters a reason to rally their forces? But she recalled the usurper’s anger aboard the Mouse when Aeg had claimed that Rhaenyra did not kill children. He could have killed her, could have killed Aeg at any time, but he did not.  “Aegon—” The dowager queen began, but the usurper cut her off, holding up a hand.  “Wait. I know there are many who plot against me. In fact, I know of a plot even now, within these very walls, to put me to death.” The usurper’s mother sucked in a sharp breath and her face paled, but the usurper paid her no mind. “I will need a new taster.” “He is your kin,” Lord Corlys ground out. “And you are a madman. There are but five living Targaryens left in the world, and you would turn one into a poison taster?”  “Lord Corlys, it is my full intention that there remain five living Targaryens in the world,” he said. “Five, and not one less. If these would-be poisoners do not see their own Prince Aegon as an acceptable exchange for my own life, then perhaps they ought to rethink their plans.” Baela frowned. The usurper claimed there was a plot against his life, and that plot could only come from her stepmother’s supporters, or former supporters. She looked at her grandfather, but he would not meet her eye. What have you done old man, she thought. The wolves were not in King’s Landing yet, but they yet marched, according to the usurper. They would not march if they anticipated defeat. Mentally, she tried to tally the numbers, but she did not know enough about the war. She recalled her father saying that the Tully host was formidable, but the Tullys had come late to the war. They’d fought with Addam Velaryon, who had died in battle, but she did not know how much of their host remained. And then there was the Vale.  The irony of it almost made her laugh out loud. Her stepmother and younger brother had fled the city in fear of their lives, and that flight had led to her Stepmother’s death. If they’d held onto the city, they would have won the war. The usurper had not mentioned any armies of his own, although there was Lord Borros here at the table. Now, Rhaenyra’s men fought on, but there was no queen to wear their crown, only a sad and scared child. Tags below the cut:

ROs' names in ogham

Ogham is the first writing system in Ireland, first used in to write Primitive Irish. It is usually seen carved into ancient standing stones found around the country.

So anyway I thought it would be appropriate to write the Na Daoine Maithe characters' names in it. Ogham is read from bottom to top, and due to Tumblr tomfoolery, you may have to click the image to see the name in full.

Not everything transliterates literally however. There are no fadas in ogham, so Aífe and Flannán lost fada privileges. Keagan is technically written as "Ceagan" due to the lack of the letter "k". There also is no letter "v" in Irish so I wrote Meave's name in my personal favourite way, "Meabhdh".

Hello again! I did say I was going to consider hosting more art parties if last month’s test run went well and, well, it did, so here I am again! Come one come all to [VS] Verdant Shield’s second ever monthly art party, this time with an expanded reach!

For those not in the loop from last month, what is an art party exactly? Well, they’re common occurrences in the Final Fantasy XIV community where artists of all kinds get together to chat, hang out, and create together! If a certain character catches your eye, you make some art of them in whatever way suits your fancy, then during or after the party post it under the tag for that party so others know where to look and spread the love around via reblogs/retweets/etc! I said it last time and it’ll always bear repeating - the ‘goal’ of attending an art party is not to be drawn, but to draw others, and share with the community! Attendees from last month’s party compared it to art jams, people watching, or attending a life drawing class with people you actually like. For more tangible examples, you can check back through the tag I intend to use for all of these monthly events - #VSArtParty - to see what previous partygoers have made!

I’m a lot less antsy about hosting these events now that I have a baseline, so much so that I want to involve those of you over on EU servers as well by hosting two rounds of parties, first on EU and then NA! However, I’ll still be keeping the squad(s) private and out of LFG to deter party-crashers, especially since this time we’ll be in a more well-known and easily-accessible location as the party moves Eastward into the Grove!

Welcome to the expanded details! First of all, the Garden of Dawn is the Grove’s worst-kept secret so I’d be surprised if you didn’t already know about it, but just in case, here’s a tl;dr on how to get there from Ronan’s Waypoint (aka the bottom floor of the Grove, you can drop down from Upper Commons Waypoint or Reckoner’s Waypoint to get to this starting point too):

Head North along the path towards the House of Aife PoI (not shown in the picture but you’ll see it on your map).

Take a hard left at said PoI and yeet yourself into this tiny pool that has a secret tunnelllll~

You’re here! It’s bigger than it looks in this picture but still relatively small, however I’ve attended events hosted here and can confirm that it can fit a lot of people, and also from last month I learned we don’t actually need a ton of space since we all squish up together to see each other anyway. However, if this space gets too crowded we’ll breach containment and relocate to a more public spot - very likely Starbower Nursery aka the little multi-level tavern on the South side of the map (it has its own PoI so it’s easy to spot)! If we do I’ll make sure to put the updated location in the squad message!

Okay! With that out of the way let’s get to the real important stuff.

This month’s event will consist of two separate art parties, each 3 hours long (though you’re welcome to stay later if you like), with a 1hr break in between so people interested in attending both can stretch, get snacks, etc etc.

The first party will be on EU servers and begin at 9pm Central European Time (that’s 3pm Eastern Standard Time for NA folks). I’ll be hosting it on my EU alt, so to join you can either whisper Aemryn of Dusk for an invite or type ‘/sqjoin aemryn of dusk’ in chat to join automatically!

The second party will be on NA servers and begin at 7pm Eastern Standard Time (that’s 1am Central European Time for any sleepless EU folks). This one will be hosted on my main account, and you can join by either whispering Kirslyn for an invite or typing ‘/sqjoin kirslyn’ in chat to auto-join!

Like I mentioned before the cut, we’ll be using the same tag for both of these parties as we did for last month’s - #VSArtParty - and I think that’ll be the one we’ll continue to use in the future for these! There’s no spaces so that it can be used on Twitter as well if you’re still over there!

Some things I've noticed while drawing every single oc in @kirbyoctournament

-why do so many oc names start with c. nothing wrong with it, but my god there's a ton of em. -oddly enough I did not expect for only like 3 of the orbs/puffballs/astral/whatever you call the kirby species knights to have gauntlets. is it because they're hard to draw? -majority of characters with hair aren't orbs. bald moment -surprisingly, matter is the 2nd highest amount of species other than orbs. would've thought waddle dees were second tbh -ya'lls designs are so creative I love em so much like muah --some of your designs terrify me though like how do you draw these characters every day (says the person that draws the mages a bunch) -everyone is secretly an orb. every single oc I've drawn has at least one circle. they're all orbs in disguise. except maybe princess of morrow. hm. -Most redrawn character was cloud kracko, couldn't figure out where to put him in tbh -Hardest one to draw goes to rose knight. It seems like Minima Knight actually has eventually ended up deciding to finally visit Aife within her very own pocket dimension, and it also very much seems like Minima actually has somehow managed to be able to bring along with her a very special gift of lots and lots of yummy little Floralian snacks and treats just for Aife! Theories on who the first two routes will be?

Hey!! I did write an answer to this at like 1am yesterday but i was doing it directly in tumblr and... well long story short it's gone now.

But this is something I have Some Thoughts On, so here goes!

I've laid out my thoughts and how I arrived to them here, but if you just wanna see the conclusions, skip down to the bottom!

I start off with some general thoughts on how the routes might be organised/decided, then discuss each character's route and my feelings about them, before finally drawing conclusions at the end.

Did you expect this to be a 1-sentence answer? if you did, you were wrong. HEHEHE

Really interested to see other people's thoughts as well - feel free to discuss in reblogs or tag me if you have something to add :)

General Constraints:

We know the routes will be released in pairs

I think it would be fairly obvious for the pairs to be 1 Seelie and 1 Unseelie LI each

I highly doubt that Keagan and Flannan, or Maeve and Aife will be released at the same time. If it were me, I would have them staggered rather than feast + famine for those who are more interested in women than men, or men than women. Additionally, Keagan and Flannan seem to be the 2 most popular characters, so I would think that releasing them at once would be less strategic on that basis.

That said, I could see Shae and Robin being released at the same time... asterisk. I think that's more likely than M&A or K&F.

Seeing as the secret story can only be unlocked once all the routes have been completed, and the devs specified that each route has something different to add (🥺) I imagine it would go in an order intended with the least spoilers for the other routes

Other options might be something to do with pacing for popularity of characters, or perhaps going for matching in terms of the positions the character holds in the court (e.g. aife and flan are the royals of their respective courts).

RE popularity: the devs have explicitly stated they did not want to base the release of the routes on popular vote.

I'm referring to them in waves - wave #1 = the first 2 routes, wave #2 is routes 3 and 4, wave #3 is routes 5 and 6.

The Love Interests

Shae:

Their route is going to be more of a ghibli-esque adventure and detective route!

I think that this would be a really good candidate for wave #1 because I think it's sweet and would be a really good ramp up

I think that their search for the princess would give us some really interesting context + information about the war, and be quite good for teasing/setting up at least a few of the other character's routes (esp Aife & Flannan, likely having had the most close story to the princess. possibly even Keagan if the battle where he helped turn the tide was the one where the princess had to escape?) without actively giving away all of their secrets.

That said though, I do think that the princess is going to be hidden somewhere on Unseelie territory, so I'm hoping for some Shae/ Flannan interactions <3

Keagan:

His route is gonna have intrigue and mystery, trying to unravel the past, weave the threads of the future and unfurl the mystery of the master of secrets himself.

He is the master of secrets and he is GOOD at his job. I think he knows a LOT. He definitely knows Aife's secrets, and if my Keagan/Flannan have 👀 History theory is correct, then he'll know rather a lot about Flan as well. He knows a bit about Shae (but underestimates them, so perhaps not everything) and about Maeve. He knows the least about Robin (much to his chagrin).

I think that he has so much dirt on everyone that his route will come late because he'd know too many spoilers for the other routes lol. (Much as it pains me to say this.)

But devs - feel free to prove me wrong heheh. In fact, I welcome it.

Aife:

I think her route is going to revolve around her mysterious and suspicious rise to the throne, the difficult choices she had to make (and has to make, as queen of a realm in a recent and uneasy truce with their next door neighbours). About trust and the snakes in the grass of the seelie court.

This one I also think is quite a strong candidate for wave #1

She met Keagan when she was doing... whatever nefarious deal she did for her power. I don't think that she knows as much about him/his past as he knows about her. She doesn't seem to have met any of the unseelie, and I'm not sure if she fully knows about Shae, other than thinking that they are a traitor. So her route would not contain heavy spoilers I think.

In fact, I think her route would be a good one in terms of like opening up the world of TNN for us a bit and introducing us to its players and the landscape and the game.

Maeve:

Her route I think will involve MC helping her in her efforts to try and stabillise the region. Fighting those monsters hinted at in asks? Tracking down the bandits? Sorting out the food insecurity? Watching her have her magical girl transformation and also making eyes at her?

I feel like this will in some ways mirror or foil or complement Shae's route, in terms of being quite adventurous and involving a lot of exploration - great introduction to the Unseelie territories. Also, they're both very ... close to the people I think? Down to earth.

Maeve I think is also a good candidate for wave #1 or wave #2 for those reasons.

She's approachable and kind, but also a badass who isn't afraid to throw down. There's some trauma and tragedy in her backstory which will be so fun to explore and see how she became the woman she is today.

Flannan:

His route I think will consist of trying to find out what happened to his father, and also him grappling with whether or not he wants to go back to war. He definitely seems fairly set on going back to war, or thinking about it at least. And certainly angry that the unseelie position is significantly weakened without their figureheads.

He also obviously cares for his citizens, despite being very stern and seeming humourless. War isn't really good for the common folk regardless, so perhaps that's something that would also hold him back.

I think he would be a good candidate for wave #2, because the whole bombshell at the end of the demo is just so damn INTRIGUING!! I feel like it will reveal a fair amount of tangled web threads. But he doesn't know everything.

It could also be a good candidate for wave #1, since the reveal at the end of the demo is directly about the main plot thread (that we know of) for his route! So it would follow on very naturally.

However, I just have a gut feeling pointing him towards wave 2. I don't know why.

Robin:

I have no idea what their route will involve tbh. They seem like an open book but they are NOT. They seem to have some beef with the druids, they are friends with Daonna, and Keagan said they take an interest in us, MC. If I were to hazard a wild guess, a stab in the dark, I'd say perhaps they might want to get some kind of revenge...

I think that Robin as a character needs you to have some time to warm up to them before you will utterly fall in love with them (obviously some people fell in love with Robin straight off the bat! but for me, and some other people I am aware of, I fell in love with them over time)

Therefore I think they are unlikely to be in wave #1 - I think they'll be a bit of an antagonist in other routes first, so you sort of get used to them being around and their antics - both annoying and irritating, setbacks and actually helpful

I think Robin is likely to be wave #2 or #3 and I would probably bet on route #3 because I think that would be lots of time given so that you build up a picture of them in your head.

However, Robin's persona and their inner feelings are very different, I think. They are lonely, and they want to be loved and accepted and wanted for who they are.

So I think that this hidden angst coming out for a whammy in wave #3 would work very well.

Conclusions

Frankly, I think that Shae and Aife would be my first guess for wave #1, if it weren't for the fact that I am fairly confident that it will be 1 seelie and 1 unseelie. But I am more confident in that than in anything else.

I am fairly sure that Aife and Flannan's routes will be released at the same time. Call it a hunch. I think they would just complement each other well, plus, you are not immune to propaganda. It would be more balanced to be exposed to seelie and unseelie royal propaganda at once lol.

I'm fairly sure that Keagan will come out in wave #3, and I actually convinced myself while writing this post that Robin will too.

That would leave Shae and Maeve coming out together as well.

Final Answer:

I'm thinking that wave 1 will be Shae and Maeve; wave 2 will be Aife and Flannan, and wave 3 will be Robin and Keagan.
