New album release - Polygonal Retribution + December updates
While it may technically be old news (it's been about a week since distribution) - I have a rather big music release that I want everyone who stumbled upon this post to know about. Last post I mentioned of this "Polygonal Retribution" Now it's fully on the online scene - in two volumes. 51 songs in total. A digitally composed album during my late teens (2016-2018), remastered and updated with new tracks and cover art. The genre of its music is a form of Chiptune - but not from any authentic old technology (check out beepbox.co). Has its roots from my imagination in the diep.io wiki community. Music is available on Spotify, Soundcloud, and YouTube. Listeners can check out the Bandcamp for downloading and support. **December update December was absolute chaos in the mind of this Zander. As break started in the first week, I couldn't focus on the big things I wanted to share to the world. I'm doing a little better now, hopefully. I've struggled to overcome anxiety to achieve some of those things like sharing this album. I know it'll be good to start building a personal website as my little palace of wonder - but I need to spend an undermined amount time doing that! I felt like it was better to get people to know this music first. I have future projects in the works already - mostly the planning/pre-production stage. Many demos have been made over the years and I might find a good reason to share some of those here and elsewhere. Thank you whoever for getting to the bottom of this post. Enjoy the music if it fits your taste (and share it to the world if you like it a lot)! - Zander

What type of music do you like / have you been jamming to recently? Any recommendations?
(my internet died halfway through this so i nearly had to rewrite it)
you caught me at a bad time i was schmooving to a sewerslvt playlist yesterday ;-;
okay to be serious for a moment. uh. i don't think i have super good or interesting (or normal) tastes in music? i can point you to some of the things i think are cool and good, and i can also point you to things that i listen to for mood.
ive also probably mentioned some of these before (probably all of them?) so sorry if there's repeats
(okay this ended up being longer than expected so cut vv)
good (mostly not depressing stuff?):
Bill Wurtz – weirdly dreamlike jazzy stuff (?) i recommend 'At the Corner Store' and then i recommend you listen to all his other stuff
Ujico*/Snail's House: ive probably ranted about this guy before; 'Cosmo Funk' is probably your entry level snails house song. sweet adorable future bass, my go to for free serotonin
Heaven Pierce Her – Ultrakill: Violence, the game's newest EP. generally melancholic but really sick especially in context. 'War Without Reason' is probably my new favourite track in the whole game? (you can tell i like amen breaks lol)
also ofc i have to mention john / TOOBOE!! shout out to @donutinsideofashark for introducing me to this guy. some recs: 'Tablet', 'Roman', and 'Appare kanpai' – stuff goes hard and makes me wish i knew jp so i could actually remember lyrics
mood (depressing and/or weirder stuff):
vivivivivi's Dead but Dreaming: concept album about a dead god, mostly chiptune instrumental stuff until the second-last track – personally I LOVE this album, but as someone said, it probably sucks unless you have autism (disclaimer: i'm not diagnosed autistic, this is a reference to the pinned comment). this particular album influences a lot of my works to be honest
two more vivivivivi beepbox albums, ones that are a little more lively: Sisyphus and Silly Little Songs from my Silly Little Head. probably not to the tastes of sane and normal people but i like the beeps and boops :)
sewerslvt: breakbeat stuff from a dark place. people seem to not like sewerslvt fans which is why i'm reluctant to talk about this one but whatever. idk what you'd call their genre (i've heard it described as ambient jungle, trance, something or other dnb, but most importantly NOT breakcore. call sewerslvt breakcore and you are signing up for a hell of a flamewar) listen if you like amen breaks and hate yourself (i hope not…) idk what to even recommend here… i stumbled across her first with Drowning In The Sewer years ago. i've been getting back into their stuff recently, which is probably not a good sign for my mental health… currently listening to 'was it weird that i listened to im god by clams casino's when i lost my virginity' which is a hell of a title
Heaven Pierce Her again – The Enigma of Heaven and Other Daily Delusions: weird album about religion and the internet. since this is hakita again there are amen breaks. good if ur fuckin WEIRD. i recommend most of HPH's work
i've also been listening to an ultrakill fan artist called Marzuku, who does – guess what – more amen break stuff. i don't know man, but 'At Ends' is pretty good
shit fuck of course the jvne section ends up being a whole paragraph just to say don't listen to their stuff.
THAT'S IT IT'S TIME TO WRAP THIS UP THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK. damn this got long. this is what happens when you ask me about my interests LMFAO

i've been working on a small beepbox album over the past few weeks and i'm choosing not to upload most of the tracks until the whole album is out but here's a taste

1) did you actually try beepbox? not mad if you didn't just curious ngl <- beepbox is link i put bc it's a website and easiest thing i've found while still having some variety (if you want someone who makes great music with a mod of beepbox, vivivivivi on yt makes great music. esp dead but dreaming it's a great album). soundtrap is very ez gg in my opinion. and chrome music maker is a thing (i don't understand how someone'd be partial to it over beepbox but maybe it'll help idk)
2) does the toa in your bio stand for tower of anger or am i just too jtoh brained. if it does i'm curious how toa deserves better in any way shape or form it's so mid
omg i didn't actually expect anyone to respond to that sjdfhdsf
So, I did try beepbox, I'm just not sure how to make anything other than just loops? Might do a bit more research tho because it was easy enough to use. I've downloaded Cakewalk and Waveform but just can't work out how to use them and unfortunately I am a stubborn little shit with no attention span so video tutorials don't really help... however I am going to try and find some short tutorials and make myself watch them cause I'm sure it'll be worth it. My bitterness wasn't aimed at you/the post btw!!! Just my shitty attention span. It actually made me try some stuff instead of just sitting there going 'man I wish i could make music' so thanks for the push!
And second, ToA stands for Tales of Arcadia here, I've never heard of Tower of Anger skdfhsdf sorry. Basically the finale of Tales of Arcadia was like the worst thing you can imagine: character assassinations, retcons, the most confused plot ever, and a time travel fix ending that retconned five years' worth of character development :')

i know a while ago on twt you posted a bit of music you made urself, it sounded really good so i just wanna ask how u got around to doing that? i wanna try making sum myself but dont know where to start :p
I've been makin' my songs (including the ones I've posted on my twt) in Beepbox!
It's a really cool (and free, mobile & desktop-friendly) maker I found out about in 2018 and, since then, I've moved over to making my song on it !!
Tumblr media
I'd highly recommend it as a nice starting point for makin' tunes! If all the layout/instrument customization stuff overwhelms ya, don't worry about knowing what everything is right away!
I'd say Beepbox is especially perfect if you're going for Gameboy/Nintendo DS era type music!
In 2013 when I first started off making songs, I experimented with/used various music makers (even ones w/ premade kits/loops)— and I had no idea what I was doing LOL!! 😭 Just like how I familiarized myself w/ Beepbox: I tossed around different instruments, played around with settings and rhythms, made original loops + remixes (of existing songs + my own)... until I was confident enough in my skills to make a song on the spot!
I'm in no way a professional musician- but the best advice I could give is like how I said above: play around with some instruments/settings! Maybe start off small, like simple loops, and build on those- or go all out and make a soundtrack of your own, like making it for an album or a video game! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Might be going on a music hiatus for a while. Okay, I know what y'all are thinking: "cru5h, this is like the 50th time you've said you're going on a music hiatus! We all know you're probably just gonna end up releasing a track in a few days anyways! Why even announce the hiatus to begin with??" but hear me out! I'm considering making an ACTUAL ALBUM (yes an actual album in which a bunch of songs are released all at once or whatever!) based off of Under Grayscale Skies under the name Grayscale Sampler or just Under Grayscale Skies. Basically the album would be music based off characters & locations in the story (so basically I'm making an OST for UGS if a game based off of it ever becomes a reality) and I'll be using Soundtrap's piano roll and possibly Beepbox for the tracks since I kinda want to get a sort of Undertale/Deltarune vibe out of these tracks (by being chiptune and not chiptune at the same time, if that makes sense). A bit of an ambitous project, especially considering the fact my shitty home chromebook might be starting to tap out on me (this thing stopped updating years ago and now the storage on this thing's acting all funky for some reason; think I might need to get a new computer lol hopefully if I get a new one it has touchscreen and can run exe files but hey only time will tell), but hey it might be worth it in the end :D
I'll still be posting art and continue work on Your Side of Order and eventually Calamity Circus and Under Grayscale Skies itself though so no worries I'm probably just gonna be on hiatus for music stuff. I dunno for how long and how many tracks are gonna be on the album (so far what I had in mind is a main theme, some character themes, background music for locations, and probably fight themes if I'm determined enough) so yeah.

Hello my PTaxxon-based tumblr audience! I'm hosting a small BeepBox Jam for the next 4 days, where you make a song and everyone remixes each other's work
The theme is "Winter" and I'm compiling all the songs into a album at the end.
If that sounds cool, feel free to drop by and make/mash up some Winter Beats (finger guns)

vivivivivi is such an inspiration for me. i don’t really know how to use any other music programs, they’re all so confusing and hard to start with, so i only use beepbox. and like. the power. how can you convey such emotion in a few instruments? such complicated feelings, the synths layering onto each other, i can hear the way they use the volume of a note to add different effects and it’s just. like.
in my head conveys such specific things, like. the way that ‘the beginning of the end’ seems like a normal song except for the ways it conveys this unease in just little note choices. the way some of the songs create such agonizing dread that it feels like my experiences exactly (like when i’m Resisting The Horrors). the way that flies swarming my skull uses growing, overpowering noise that feels like you’re having a panic attack, and the next track (the penultimate one, pretend im not breathing) releases it with guitar, strummed in such a hesitant way that makes me think it’s someone who’s hands are still shaking, trying to let yourself feel something that isn’t a bad emotion, contrasting to the rest of the album it’s just like.
their music is so good how!!!! if i was trying to convince someone that you can make good art without paying thousands of dollars for The Best Things, this is what i’d show them. even listening a little to vivivivivi’s songs you can clearly hear the skill they’ve built with pandora’sbox. something i keep admiring and wanting to put in my own music is the way they know how to control the mood, the emotion. to be able to convey the exact feel or setting, to paint a picture in someone’s mind using just the 8bit instruments you’ve got. to bring your viewer through the exact course you want them to chart, it’s like…. just amazing.
another person who makes good instrumental music is AZALI. they don’t make the same kind of music where you FEEL an emotion, nor do they use the same software bc they have fl studio. but it’s still so great how they can make a setting, and just. the music. is so good
this is why i love music : well, a part, because i also just love music for music’s sake. but one of the reasons is i love how i can clearly hear the artist’s skill. i can pick through each layer of music like, the drums are doing this, i can hear a melody there, i can hear how they’re using the instrumental to accentuate their point. like something i always loved about the mind electric (chonny jash cover, not all 3 i’m talking about the cover called the mind electric right now) is how the drums are so erratic and basically the main instrument, and you can hear the drums emphasize the lyrics. i love octave changes, i love how sometimes people make the instruments go quiet so you need to listen to the lyrics, i love how sometimes they can well. not do that and make the instrumental even more powerful.
