“Sarada is the first Uchiha that awoke her MS out of a sense of pure love, unlike the rest of them that were rooted in hatred –she’s the first one to break the “Hatred Cycle” of the clan.”

*sighs* Listen, there’s nothing I’d like more than to leave Boruto and all of its byproducts behind for good, yet over and over again the rabid anti-Sasuke fandom comes back to trash on the original characters of the show for the sole purpose of chanting “old Uchiha bad, new Uchiha good” around a barely lit pit fire.

Allow me to quickly break this notion, as it doesn’t need much more inspection than a faint passing of our eyes through the original series to debunk it.

After hearing Naruto is sealed away alongside Hinata and everyone blames Boruto, Sarada starts crying and, in desperation, asks her dad to “help Boruto”, awakening her Mangekyou Sharingan.

[Contrary to what I initially believed as I thought she might be asking for help as she couldn’t move, she’s not injured, she appears to be (at most) in shock due to everything that Boruto has to face, so, in case you’re one of those Naruto fans that are used to have pretty plot-relevant, emotional moments after the initial awakening of an Uchiha’s MS, let me tell you: That’s not happening, at all.]

Regardless of the minuscule and for real, for real, not sarcastic at all, very-well thought and constructed attempt to empower a character whose relevance to the main plot lies in the fact that she is the only daughter of Boruto's mentor, many stans of the child saw this opportunity to trash on Sasuke’s power as an Uchiha (you know, the reincarnation of Indra itself), and to justify such an awakening of one of the most powerful forms of the Sharingan under the premise that “it’s a different type of awakening because it’s linked to love, not hatred.”

So, in order to fact-check such affirmation, let’s see how other characters achieved the Mangekyou:

Sasuke:

Sasuke awakes his MS originally from learning the truth behind his family’s genocide; before this (and I mean, chapters before this, as his MS is dedicated a total of three chapters) Obito explained that the Uchiha were planning a coup and that Itachi, to protect Konoha and his brother, committed the annihilation of his entire kin following the government’s orders. We see him crying before a new resolution is reached: destroy Konoha. His MS awakes due to his pain which turns to complete anger.

However, you wouldn’t believe how Sasuke has conscious access to both Mangekyou:

That’s right folks, he has conscious access over his right MS by thinking of those he wants to protect, Team Taka and Team 7. So this “hatred” cycle that powers up his Sharingan is fuelled by one thing and one thing only: love.

Furthermore,

Sasuke got conscious access over his left MS technique when trying to save Karin, as she’s a very dear comrade of his. Something similar happened when he awakened his Sharingan versus when he got conscious access to it when trying to save Naruto.

[Sasuke awoke the Sharingan when he was eight years old, so the idea that “haha, Sarada awoke her MS when she was younger than him so she’s better!” is stupid as he awoke it when he was at least four years younger when facing the genocide of his people, unlike her that got it from daddy issues. In fact, awakening MS or the Sharingan before or after has nothing to do with the person's capacity as a ninja as it solely depends on the traumatic events that said person experiences. It's safer to say that her emotional threshold is significantly lower than her father's given the "peaceful" times in which she grew up than to claim a "superiority" based upon the age they both experienced traumatically enough events to influence their chakra and develop or evolve their doujutsu.]

Obito:

Obito, somewhat similar to Sasuke (and this is due to their feelings, as they’re heartbroken and such pain triggers their raw hate), awakes his MS when he sees the girl he loves get killed by the boy he started to consider a friend when he was twelve/thirteen years old. His feelings are so strongly connected to his Sharingan that they also evolve the doujutsu that Kakashi possesses.

However, there’s a striking difference between how Obito awakened his Sharingan (basic form) and how Sasuke or even Sarada did as he achieved such power when trying to save his comrades.

[Sasuke awoke the Sharingan due to the pain he felt when seeing his parents get killed by his brother, which turned into hatred when Itachi "explained" his reasons. Meanwhile, Sarada got her Sharingans due to the pain she felt when her father didn't recognize her, which turned into fear when he threatened to kill her.]

Obito’s Sharingan was completely awakened by a sense of protectiveness over those dear to him, in other words, love.

Every single Sharingan or evolution of the same doujutsu is driven by the same emotion. From there, it either derivates to different states (pain, hate, grief, and so on), or it doesn’t, but no Uchiha can access either form without feeling a strong positive connection with someone or something they are trying to protect.

P.S: Unrelated, but look how pretty Kishimoto's art is compared to Ikemoto's (who also sexualizes minors constantly, as this is the cover of the newest volume), Sasuke looks so ugly and Sarada's MS is the most awful thing I've ever seen. No wonder the manga is flopping. Yikes.

Edit to add: It’s devastatingly hilarious how the whole point of Sarada’s Mangekyou wasn’t even about her; nor her power, nor the relevance of her bonds, it was about making a powerful enough moment for Sasuke to believe her and help Boruto! Everything becomes, yet again, about Sasuke.

Thoughts on canon ships: NaruHina? SaiIno? ShikaTema?

send me a ship and i'll give you my brutally honest opinion on it

NaruHina

Having only read the manga for much of part 2, Hinata is not heavily featured as doing much at all, and this ship came off as pretty shoehorned in. As I've talked about before, I like Hinata's ~aesthetic~, but I don't find her very interesting. I additionally don't really find teen/adult Naruto that interesting. So like.... this ship is just very boring to me lol.

Their canon marriage did Hinata less dirty than Sakura, at least. Like I know Boruto is mad his dad isn't around more, but adult Hinata seems to have enough of a spine that I think she and Naruto have probably worked out compromises for his insane work schedule.

SaiIno

This ship also has barely any canon development and yet somehow makes perfect sense to me. They are the mean girl couple. They talk shit about you in front of you. They have matching midriffs. I also think Sai and Ino are weirdly compatible. Like, Sai is someone who seems to yearn for connections with other people, but he needs how relationships even work clearly laid out for him. He needs his partner to be able to very clearly communicate their emotions and how they want to be treated. Ino is both self-aware and confident enough to do exactly this. And I think, besides canonically finding him hot, Ino would find Sai's uncomplicated approach to interpersonal relationships to be a relief. He's mean and catty in a way that's fun, but also she can just go "when you say X, it makes me feel Y" and he will actually engage with that and have an honest conversation about it.

ShikaTema

This might be the only canon ship that felt developed besides SasuNaru. Like, the new one-shot I think did a lot for MinaKushi, but their original backstory was just kind of like, "Okay?"

Shikamaru and Temari have a certain edginess to their interactions that Compelled me when I was like 12. He impresses her in a fight and then forfeits and says she would have won, and everyone should know that. She shows up to save his ass in the Sasuke retrieval arc. When we see them again, they're working together on official Chunin Exam business. It really did feel like their relationship was built up purposefully. I don't remember ever actively seeking out content (probably because canon was enough for me), but I was on board as a baby teen.

That being said, now that I've grown and matured, I'm not really compelled by this ship any more. I don't really like the way Shikamaru's role in the manga kind of turned into "genius favorite character can do no wrong," and I don't like the way Temari was treated in her match against Shikamaru. Like, even though she won, it's painted sooooo firmly as Shikamaru being cool and mature. Given Naruto as a manga is very bad at giving any women agency, it's kind of annoying. But it is developed in canon. I'll give it that.

I do think I might click on a fic that was less about the ship itself and more about, like... navigating Temari's bizarre family. How does Shikamaru interact with her brothers? Do they ever visit Suna and have super awkward family dinners? What was integrating into Konoha like for Temari?

Ok, a friend of mine sent me the original Naruto databooks and there are some things I'd like to discuss with you now. Focusing on the characters of Sakura and Hinata we see that their favorite thing is literally the boy they claim to be in love with. Oh my God, not even Minato and Kushina or the other couples are at this level! Even in the case of Hinata he says that since she was little she has always loved Naruto and liked to look at him from afar (going by logic to the exclusion, how the heck can you already love at the age of 4??! and yet they want me to believe that Naruto in OG only had a crush on Sakura while with Hinata we already talk about love without even knowing the person or having interacted with him a few times. Oh well, we've said it all). Regarding Sakura we see that her favorite thing is Sasuke enveloped in black flames? That is, basically, the darker Sasuke is, the more he loves him? what the hell? This is literally called obsession or rather, a psychologist would say the so-called "Stockholm syndrome", I always wonder what Sakura's parents would have thought in seeing their daughter choose the man who tried to kill her over the one always at her side ( no, I don't care if Sasuke wasn't himself, it's still an attempted murder and ok, you may even be willing to forgive but no self-respecting woman would continue to love a man who tried to kill her several times) and yet, d' on the other hand, we see that in the side with Naruto the relationship between the two is always described in a positive way until the end, that from an initially annoying person he ended up being important to her and that she wants to protect her dream until the end to thank him for having her always loved and protected (oh right, it was just a red herring and the two were just supposed to be friends in the end; ironic given that in Gaiden and Boruto they aren't even that anymore and can barely call each other acquaintances. Anyone who watches Naruto and then follows Boruto can seriously think of watching two totally different series). Furthermore, returning to the NH and NS in the Naruto databook only Sakura's confession in the land of iron appears, nothing is mentioned regarding Hinata's confession or the handshake for Neji's death (this already makes it clear how much the character is was important in the protagonist's life but ok, he was a NH from the beginning, the salty fans are us who read the wrong manga). Ironic that Naruto's favorite thing is Ichraku's ramen (NaruRamen canon since the beginning ehehe) and Sasuke's is him as a kid (I knew Sasuke was a narcissist and only loves himself ahahaha). I have nothing else to say, just state the obvious once again that pro-enders try to justify everything just because their ship is canon

No because that would be a really bad way to introduce the Naruto-verse to an audience. It wouldn't work at all.

Naruto was bratty and a troublemaker. He pulled pranks because it was the only way to gain attention from people since they were all avoiding him. Negative attention is still attention.. and to the mind of a neglected child who lives in solitude that's a reward as it is acknowledgement to their existence. And so his behavior made sense. Boruto needed some sort of plot-point to get his story going. If you objectively look at his situation, without knowing anything about Naruto or its world and how it operates and this is the first time you're introduced to it then his father becomes kind of an asshole. He neglects his family while instantly having time to meet up with his best friend Sasuke. He distances himself emotionally from Boruto by telling him he can't call him "dad" in his office but needs to call him "Hokage" like everyone else, forgets important dates like his daughters birthday, does the bare minimum by sending shadow clones over, doesn't have meals at home but prefers to stay at his office and eats cups of instant ramen instead. He counts headbands and ignores Shikamaru's plea's to go home. So- Boruto acts similarly like his father did when he was a child as is depicted by the pranks that are shown, but for different reasons. Keyword here though, which you've pointed out too is: spoiled. He acts spoiled.

So would Naruto do the same?

First, Naruto's behavior now doesn't fit to his character in the sense that if he genuinely wanted a family of his own, meaning "wife and children" which he never said, "family" can mean many things- in his own words:

...then he would never treat them this way. There are characters he sees as family and he treats them very differently. Kishimoto has helped write material where Naruto was coming home very happy to Iruka and his parents (movie scripts) and that was a big deal!!! Him preferring cup noodles instead of a warm meal... must make you wonder why that is.. yeah? This "sunshine" family in general doesn't make any sense whatsoever. So, force a character into an out-of-character situation and it gets messy.

Naruto wouldn't act the same as Boruto because Kushina wouldn't let him.

Hinata acts passive and in all those years doesn't stand up for neither her kids in that regard or Naruto. She just lets that hatred fester.. Why? Probably because there is no emotional connection between her and Naruto anyway, they're married now and she "loves" him, that's all that matters, right? When Naruto is home he doesn't sleep with her, he sleeps either in another room or crashes on a couch. When she served him tea, there is a romantic drama playing on the tv that she gets emotional over whilst Naruto gets bored to death and falls asleep at the table. They don't have meals together and can't even communicate normally as they have nothing to talk about, nothing in common, there is no connection. Nada. As a creator you can't even fake that. Even Boruto doesn't communicate with them, instead he plays games on his own.

Naruto's entire development was never written for him to end like this. He went from a lonely kid eating cup ramen.. to a lonely adult eating cup ramen. From spoiled milk to having a spoiled kid. So. If Minato and Kushina were still alive.. Naruto would have an entirely different upbringing, perhaps different goals even. Because it isn't just about the character. Minato and Kushina have a good relationship so Naruto would grow up in a more loving home I'm sure of that. We don't have much to go by but 'Road to Ninja' was partly written by Kishimoto (whatever that means), and here Naruto was seen with his parents.

Minato here isn't Hokage but is between Shinobi "duty" still at home playing housewife, an adorable husband and takes care of Naruto. (Menma)

They're both present on his birthday.. (of course.)

After Kushina hugs Naruto, Kakashi points out again how loving they are as a family and everyone knows it. Even in the Manga itself their dynamics are a world of a difference from those few panels we have. I cannot see Naruto ever act spoiled in a bratty way if he had his parents. They'd communicate about the matter and come to an understanding between them.

Boruto just follows a script none of us incl. him wanted ig.

There is non bit of mutual affection in a relationshippy way and yet they are forced to play a couple by the creators. And even with her having a crush since childhood times, the crush is only of superficial nature, about looks and his mysterious broody behaviour. She lets herself be a little to obsessed and self sabotage her own character growth. He never reciprocated her feelings and yet they are forced to marry... And after the marriage they immediately go separate ways, at least he does. Why not, he is not commited to her, not in Love with her. She's just indulging her childhood infatuation and he... He is cold and does not appreciate her. He is absent and neglects her and her child. He is indeferent about her and is annoyed by her. She tried to kill her? A mutual healthy relationship really looks different. She is obsessed and he does not care.

He calls her annoying TWICE and then he knocks her out and just leaves her on a park bench?? I just hate this ship, I don't buy for one second that Sasuke likes Sakura. Not even as a friend.

Sakura's "love" for Sasuke is entirely based on the fact that she thinks he's hot and so cool. That's it. She doesn't even know him but was so weirdly obsessed with him she threw away her best friend and then later on in life was willing to throw away her relationships with everyone she cared for over him. He tried to kill her. He tried to force her to kill someone else. He has zero regard for her. You could put a pink wig on a monkey and the only reason Sasuke might possibly notice is because it isn't screeching "Sasuke-kun!!" at him.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying NaruSaku would’ve been a better endgame ship and would’ve lived up to Kushina’s words about finding someone like her and that their kids would’ve been stronger, and these are the same people who ship BoruSara, but, like, you wouldn’t have Boruto and Sarada if it wasn’t for NaruHina and SasuSaku.

NaruSaku wouldn't be a good couple and their kids wouldn't even rival NaruHina's kids' strength. here's why:

Sakura's kids are always weak (yes, I'm starting with this first so I can get it out of the way):

the only thing Sakura can really pass on is her strength, as we see Sarada using it quite often. But her chakra control and Medical Ninjutsu can't, which makes Sarada look pathetic in eyes of some fans for not being able to achieve Medical Ninjutsu even tho her mom's one of the greatest (at this point, Wasabi or Mitsuki might unlock the Byakugo Seal because they're the best at it) Sakura has no Kekkei Genkai and we've never seen her use Ninjutsu (I know she has the chakra natures for it, but never actually uses it). so she can't really pass on something that she doesn't have or never uses.

2. Kushina's words:

Kushina's words were never about finding someone like her (personality wise), but like her (deep down).

people say Hinata wasn't fit to be with Naruto 'cause she wasn't like Kushina, but those people were thinking personality wise.

in reality, Sakura was the first person to come his way, because he only liked her because she was cute. she was literally introduced that way.

Kushina never wanted Naruto to marry someone who has the same personality as her, but someone who is like her. literally, all Sakura and Kushina have in common is their hair colors are different from normal shinobis, they were picked on for their insecurities, and they're hot-headed. Hinata, however, has many similarities.

they both care about Naruto

they've protected him with their lives

Hinata was the first person to believe in him after his parents

Hinata was willing to give her own life for Naruto's safety, TWICE, as Kushina did.

Hinata helped him when he needed it the most as did Kushina when he met her for the first time

now we move onto way the ship wouldn’t work itself:

Naruto questioned when Sakura called herself beautiful:

here, Naruto questions Sakura when she calls herself "lovely ninja maiden". if he was so smitten with her, you think he'd question her nickname and not her teaching? yeah, I think so. even if he loved her SO MUCH, he wouldn't questioned, he'd agree.

2. Naruto has never complimented Sakura as a lover should:

in Naruto, not once has Naruto complimented Sakura's appearance. Inari, who barely got to know her and only got to know her for one arc, complimented her as soon as he saw her, yet why not Naruto...? only once he has, but that's when he introduced Sakura. even after their reunion, he said she looked exactly the same.

heck, he even claimed that Haku, a BOY, looked cuter than Sakura.

3. Sakura hits Naruto too much:

Sakura hits Naruto too much. if they had of gotten married, it would be an abusive one (Sakura abusing Naruto). I understand she cares about him and he cares about her, I really do, but there's still A LOT more panels of her hitting him more than her caring about him. but there's a limit of pics a post, and I have much more to add and I don't want Sakura hitting Naruto to take up all the pic space. and not to mention, there's still the anime fillers. I understand that it's supposed to be comic relief, yet there's no need to go that hard. she leaves bruises or bumps on the places she hits, whereas everyone else don't even leave a mark. I understand that it could be because of her being a Medical Ninja and her strength is more than a normal humans, yet she does it too hard, KNOWING it's gonna leave a bump. even Tsunade (who has only hit him at least once) has not left a mark on Naruto and her strength is GREATER than Sakura's. that just shows that she hits him too hard.

and even if they got married, it'll still be an abusive relationship because Sakura hasn't stopped hitting Naruto, even through timeskip. her kids, too, would suffer the abuse of their mother and fear for their lives.

4. they don’t understand each other on a deeper level:

now, Naruto married Hinata because they understand each other on a deeper level than anyone else (other than Shikamaru). she understands his pain and loneliness.

he never understood Sakura's pain and she never made an effort to understand his.

you may argue that because she was his teammate, she'd understand him the most because they went through Hell together. but the only people who understand Naruto on a deep deep level is Hinata and Shikamaru. not even Sasuke and Gaara (the ones confirmed to be his closest friends other than Shikamaru).

5. Naruto doesn’t except Sakura’s crush on Sasuke in part 1:

in original Naruto, Naruto tried everything to make sure Sakura falls out of love with Sasuke and in love with him. he never got to understand why she loves him or never really understood why he himself loved her. he even tried making her think Sasuke was a jerk by transforming into him.

I feel like if he had of ended up with Sakura and never realized his feelings for Hinata, it would be a loveless marriage and Naruto would've turned out as a spoiled brat, because he "won" his childhood lover.

6. The confession:

finally, the infamous confession that ruined Sakura for most of the fandom. honestly, I didn't think the Sakura hate could get any worst, yet this is just... it ruined Sakura for me.

like, Sakura seems okay with playing with Naruto's feelings. she KNOWS he likes her, Sai even confirmed it with BOTH him and her, yet she's reallly okay with hurting him and playing him for the fool?

Well, NaruSaku and BoruSara fans are showing their shallowness again plus some ignorance. Did they ever wonder why Naruto is orange and Hinata is purple? It's mainly due to the fact that Kishi based their colors from Goku and Chichi of Dragon Ball. Even Hinata's hime-cut was inspired by Chichi's. NaruHina is a pre-series idea and in fact, Hinata herself got a pre-series art unlike Sakura, who was an editor recommendation. Kishi took his time to think about them and wouldn't use shallow reasons for his pre-series couple to work. I wouldn't repeat the "unmei no akai ito" explanation as I did it earlier.

Also, while Sumire is not busty during Boruto, that doesn't mean she can't be after the timeskip. Maybe her present outfit hides her real figure so we can't say. Sure, she was not that busty during her academy days but that doesn't mean she can't. I mean, look at Ino, she wasn't busty in her pre-teens but she did get busty during her teens. I did not say it to shame Ino but to make a comparison. Lastly, what's the big deal about bustiness and looks, Minato, Naruto and hopefully Boruto, did not fall in love with Kushina, Hinata and Sumire respectively due to their looks but their character. Their looks are just the icing on the cake.

P.S. - If Sumire's post timeskip figure is shown thru a more revealing outfit and it shows that she is quite busty, BoruSaras would attack her much like NaruSakus and its twin from another franchise, IchiRukis, did with Hinata and Orihime for the same reason.

true. in all honesty, their looks or colors mean nothing. it's about THEM themselves, their personality, and how they all stuck by them from the beginning. Kushina chose Minato cause he saved her, Naruto chose Hinata cause she risked her life for him, he saved her too, Sumire chose Boruto because he saved her, and she saved him too because she told Salad about the Omnipotence, so if it wasn't for her, Sasuke would've have came to Boruto's rescue.

Hinata was quite modest, so you could barely tell what size hers was until the bath scene and The Last. so the same could be with Sumire.

I am apart of the Bleach fandom and I swear, they've done EVERYTHING the ns have. even trying to get the series a different ending. they really look up to the ns fandom, huh?

I just hope the bsa fandom won't attack bsu/Sumire after the series is done, but I know that won't happen since we've already seen what happens when the main guy doesn't get with the main girl, and they're jealous of the secondary girl's looks.

Team 7 was back in Konoha after a two-day mission. Mitsuki and Sarada made their way home, while Boruto and Kawaki did the same. Kawaki took a few steps before realizing that Boruto was not following him. He turned around and saw Boruto staring at Sarada. It was not the first time Kawaki noticed the way he looked at her. Every time she walked into a room, Boruto's face lit up. Every time she spoke to him, he smiled. He would have had to be blind not to see that Boruto was in love with Sarada for years.

Once Sarada disappeared around the corner, Boruto joined Kawaki. He frowned when he saw him staring at him.

“What ?” Boruto asked. “Can I ask you a question ?”

Boruto nodded.

“When are you going to tell her what you feel ?” “What are you talking about ?”

Boruto started walking and Kawaki followed him.

“You know very well what I'm talking about. When are you going to tell Sarada that you love her ?” “You're talking nonsense.” “Stop lying. I saw that you were in love with her from the first day I met you. And I know you inside out. I know that even after all these years, your feelings have not changed.”

Boruto stopped walking. He looked at Kawaki and smiled sadly at him.

“It doesn't matter. Sarada doesn't feel the same way I do, so forget it.”

Kawaki did not answer. He knew there was no point in continuing this conversation. He had never met somebody as stubborn as Boruto and when he made a decision, he never went back on it. Even if it hurt him. He only hoped Boruto would open his eyes and would change his mind before it was too late and he lost Sarada for good. After all the hardships he had been through because of Momoshiki and the Otsutsuki, he deserved to be happy.

Kawaki, Boruto, Chocho and Sarada were at the Thunder Burger. The Uzumaki brothers had met Sarada and Chocho by chance on their way to the Thunder Burger and decided to go together.

Several weeks had passed since the conversation between Boruto and Kawaki and since then neither of them had talked about it again. Boruto and Kawaki were about to eat their second burger, while Chocho had turned to look in the queue where Sarada had gone to get drinks.

“What is she doing ?” Chocho said. “It's been hours since Sarada left to get the drinks.”

Kawaki rolled his eyes. It had barely been two minutes. He had a quick look at the queue and he saw what was delaying Sarada. She was talking to one of the waiters. It was Shun. By dint of going to the Thunder Burger with Boruto, Kawaki had come to know all of the employees. Shun was a pretty nice boy, but Kawaki had always found him uninteresting.

Kawaki frowned when he saw Shun's flirty smile and Sarada's blush. He did not see any good coming of all this for Boruto. Sarada returned to their table with the drinks. She put them on the table and sat down next to Chocho.

“What took you so long ?” Chocho asked.

Sarada’s cheeks turned redder.

“Shun asked me to go out with him tomorrow evening.”

Boruto's hand shook. He hid it under the table, hoping no one would notice. Chocho quickly turned her head towards Shun. Her eyes shone and a huge smile lit up her face, like every time she heard about the beginning of a love story.

“What did you answer him ?” She asked. “Did you accept ?” “Not yet. I don't know if that's a good idea.” Sarada answered.

She looked shyly at Boruto.

“What do you think ?”

Boruto smiled at her.

“You should agree. Shun is a good guy.” “Maybe you're right.”

Sarada looked down. Kawaki opened his eyes wide. Sarada looked disappointed. As if she was hoping for another answer from Boruto. Chocho took Sarada's hand and forced her to stand up.

“You have to accept. Then we'll go shopping to find you an outfit.”

Sarada had no time to protest. Chocho took her away to meet Shun. Kawaki looked at Boruto. Being next to him, he saw him clench his fist under the table.

“Shut up,” Boruto said. “I didn’t say anything.” “She's my friend, I'm happy for her.” “If you say so.”

If a look could kill, Kawaki would already be dead. If only that idiot could realize that this love was mutual, Kawaki thought. If he waited any longer, it would soon be too late.

The next evening, Boruto was in his bedroom playing video games. At the end of the third lost game, he threw his joystick on the floor. Video games had always changed his mind, but this time he could not concentrate. He only thought of Sarada. He stood up and walked to the window. She was on a date with Shun by now. Boruto did not lie to her, Shun was really a good guy. He had known him for years and he knew he would treat her well. But yet, Boruto could not help thinking that Sarada should be with him, not Shun or anyone else. He put his hand on his chest. He would have never thought he would suffer so much by imagining her with someone else. If only things were different. If only Sarada could love him as much as he loved her. But he knew that it was impossible. He heard someone knock on his door.

“Come in !” He said.

The door opened and Kawaki entered. Boruto sighed. He really was not in the mood to hear his opinion on his feelings for Sarada.

“What do you want ?” “I came to see how you were doing.”

Boruto said nothing and looked out the window. Kawaki closed the door and approached him.

“Sarada must be home by now.”

Boruto felt anger growing inside him. He violently grabbed Kawaki's jacket and pulled him towards him.

“Why are you doing this ?” “To make you react.”

He jerked free from Boruto's grip.

“Why do you persist to not talk to her. This situation is hurting you.” “Even if I tell her that I love her, she doesn't feel the same way I do. By doing that, I might lose her and that I will not stand it.” “Even if things don't work out with Shun, one day there will be someone else and then you will lose her for good. Can you really stand to see her in someone else's arms ? To see her settle down with him ?”

Kawaki suddenly saw something clicked in Boruto's eyes. Without waiting, he opened the window and went out. Kawaki smiled. Boruto will soon get the happy ending he deserved.

Boruto jumped from roof to roof and landed on the tree in front of Sarada's window. The bedroom was lit, indicating that she had returned from her date. He took a deep breath to give himself courage. Kawaki was right, he had to talk to her. Even if losing her friendship would be unbearable for him, remaining in this uncertainty was worse. He jumped out onto the balcony and knocked on the window. Sarada opened the curtain. When she saw him, she opened the window and she stepped aside so he could enter.

“Boruto ? Is everything alright ?”

She closed the window behind him. He breathed slowly to calm down. Despite all the fights against Momoshiki, Kara and the Otsutsukis, telling Sarada how he felt seemed insurmountable.

“I came to see how you were and how your date went.” “It was... good.”

Boruto was surprised when he heard her hesitation.

“You don't look sure.”

Sarada smiled slightly.

“Yes, that was good. But there will be no second date.” “Why ?” “It's just that I would have preferred to be with someone else.”

She looked down and blushed.

“I would have preferred to be with you.”

Boruto opened his eyes wide, wondering if he had heard correctly. He had to be wrong, there was no way she felt the same way he did. Yet, he could not help hoping.

“Sarada...” “I know I shouldn't have said that. That I might ruin everything between us. But I can't stop thinking about it.”

She twiddled her hands, like she always did when she was nervous.

“I don't want to be with Shun or anyone else. It is with you that I want to be. It is you that I love. I know you don't feel the same way I do and by telling you my feelings, I'm terrified of losing you. But not saying anything hurts me even more. I love you Boruto.”

Boruto was not dreaming. Sarada loved him. Without thinking about what he was doing, he took her in his arms and kissed her. He wanted to pass on to her all the love he felt in this kiss, all that he had not managed to confess to her. Surprised at first, Sarada wrapped her arms around his neck and snuggled up to him. Nothing mattered around him except Sarada. He lost himself in that kiss. For the first time in a long time, he was finally happy.

Spiritual Connection

“Mama…” Sarada hurried down the hall towards her mother, hoping to learn the truth.

“Sarada, what’s wrong!” Sakura asked as she entered her chamber in the palace. She has been doing research so she could help Sasuke from afar. He was traveling through the realms in searching for clues of the threats of Otsutsuki that still lingered after fighting them years before.

“Does papa, love us?”

“Of course, he does, he is just doing important work for the emperor. Our feelings are connected no matter what realm we are in. We always find out way back to each other.” Sakura kneeled in front of her daughter. “You don’t need to worry, your father…Sasuke.” She rose to her feet when she saw her husband behind her daughter, clenching a wound on his side. His blood dripping onto the palace floor.

“Sakura, get the…” Sakura hurried forwards and caught Sasuke before he collapsed. His blood staining her pink dress.

“Papa!” Sarada cried, not expecting to see her father in such a state. He was strong, unbreakable, not someone who would injure easily. What could have happened?

“Sarada, please go find Naruto and inform him of your fathers return. Tell him I brought him to the infirmary.” Sakura placed a hand on Sasuke’s cheek, he was running a high fever, hoping she would be able to save him in time.

Sarada raced down the hall, towards the throne room, in search of the emperor, tears streaming down her face. She came to a stop when she spotted Mitsuki holding Boruto back.

“Why can’t I see my stupid old man!” Boruto yelled.

“He is in an important meeting and…” Shikamaru eyes darted to Sarada who stood behind the two boys, tears in her eyes. He knew something must have happened for Sarada to be in such a distressed state. “What is it?”

Boruto and Mitsuki turned and saw Sarada standing there, wondering what has happened.

“Papa, he is back, but…”

The doors to the throne room suddenly opened, Naruto emerged, ignoring the elders scolding him from ending their meeting so abruptly. He raised an eyebrow when he saw the crowd outside, wondering what had happened. Was this because of Sasuke? He had sensed his magic not too long ago, it was weak, almost like it was dying out.

“Uncl…” Sarada spot herself from calling the emperor Uncle. She was in the presence of many important people and could not show her close relationship to the king. The Arcane High Council disappointed when they learned of the union between the Magician and the Priestess, they returned from traveling the realms with a child, but not any child, theirs. That it was frowned upon that two powerful beings would have a forbidden affair. Not asking the High Council if they could marry. The Arcane’s were protectors of the realms. Their jobs extremely important to make sure their world remains in balance.

“Sarada, is everything alright?” Naruto asked.

“Papa, he came back hurt…” Sarada looked at Uncle Naruto. “He…”

“Don’t worry I am sure Sakura-chan will heal him up.” Naruto smiled brightly, “Why don’t you run along with Boruto and Mitsuki.” Naruto looked at the kids, he knew that visiting Sakura and Sasuke too soon would not be wise. They have not seen each other in months, knowing how they are, they will not be able to keep their hands off each other.

“But…”

“No, buts, run along you three.”

“How long should we wait?” Shikamaru asked as he looked at Naruto with his arms crossed.

“Give them a half hour.”

Sasuke looked at his wife as he watched her heal his injuries. The green glow of her magic brought him comfort as he sat on the bed, stripped of his robes, his chest bare. “Sakura…”

“You idiot, how can you be so careless.”

A blush formed on Sakura’s face when she thought of their time exploring the realms, searching for the great threat that made their world unbalanced. How Sarada was conceived in the middle of the Dark Forest, not being able to keep their hands to themselves.

“I see, we will send this to the Cipher team.” Naruto pocketed the scroll and looked between Sakura and Sasuke, her noticed a bruise forming on Sakura’s neck, “You should rest and enjoy some time with your family.”

“I will, it is nice to be home, even if it is for a little while.” Sasuke knew once the information was decoded, he would have to embark on a journey through the realms once more.

hi! I love the way you write women in your stories and I've seen you post about Sakura in the past, so I've been wondering how you'd rethink the Sasuke/Sakura ship? I was always really disappointed in canon because Sakura is an ambitious and competitive character with her own goals and motivations but she's always held back either by her teachers, the system (team placement, being civilian born) or her "crush". I completely understand if this is not your jam or not something you like, but if it is, I'd love to hear your perspective! 🫶

Ummm I'm pretty neutral to the ship. IMHO, in part 1 we do see that Sasuke genuinely likes her (platonically, at least), so a billion years ago when I was a kid I shipped them because I wanted to see Sakura "get the guy." Now as an adult and with more canon interactions available to ~analyze~, I don't really like them as a ship but I do like when they're written as close friends. I don't think we see enough growth on Sasuke's end through the war arc or the beginning of Boruto to indicate to me he's at a place where he's willing and able to Treat Sakura Right, or treat like.... anyone right? And the end result is that, from what I've seen of Boruto, Sakura got done real dirty.

So I don't really like SasuSaku, but I can see the bones of something that would make a compelling ship. I do like Sarada a lot, so I have put some thought into how SS could function in a canon-compliant, non-shitty way. First, I don't think Sasuke is really capable of romantic feelings, and that Sakura desperately wants romance. This doesn't mean their marriage to doomed, but it does mean they need time to develop an understanding of one another: Sasuke needs to understand and validate Sakura's feelings and ideally be okay with participating in the sort of romantic gestures she wants, and Sakura needs to come to terms with the idea that Sasuke can love her, but he might not ever be in love with her, and that's okay. In theory this could have happened off-screen during the years they traveled together.

Some tweaks to canon I would make without doing massive rewrites:

*Generally I think Sakura should have gotten more hype, especially from Sasuke. I'm banning myself from massive rewrites, but two places where this could have been fixed with with only some dialogue changes/a handful or panels are:

The scene where she confronts him after he kills Danzo and he tells her to heal Karin. I think this whole subplot with Sakura was pitched in kind of a stupid way, but I do like "Sakura tries to deal with Sasuke herself," and I think to really flesh this out, Sasuke should have treated Sakura as more of a threat. I think when he finally attacked her, we should have gotten at least of couple panels of an even fight before Kakashi stepped in. This isn't ship-material but it sets them up to more "even," rather than Sakura as a passive force begging Sasuke to take her.

Second, I think she should have just gotten more hype in general during the War Arc. If we had more than just the one panel of Sasuke reacting positively to her, it would have at least signaled there's potential he still cares for her the way he did in part one.

*Moving into the end-game of the manga, I think Sasuke should have been the one to ask Sakura to travel with him. She could initiate the conversation, she could make a bunch of faces that indicates that she wants to ask, but Sasuke should have verbalized it.

*Finally, I know there's a panel of Sasuke with Sarada as a toddler, but I would have liked it established that he was around for his wife and kid in the early years. I'll accept "years long mission during her formative years means Sarada barely remembers him" if you REALLY want the family drama, but I just think it's SO shitty that Boruto implies he was barely there for Sakura at all in general, including when she had his baby.

If we go into vaguely canon AUs, I can totally see SasuSaku happening in an AU where Sasuke never goes to Orochimaru. I think Sakura and Naruto were really important social bonds for Sasuke, so I can see him eventually being like, "Yeah, okay, I can take you on a date." I'm imagining they're like 15-16 when this happens, so Sakura herself is more mature, and also in the processing of figuring herself out as a kunoichi, Sasuke finds there's a lot to like/admire about her.

That, or Sasuke abruptly and painfully realizes his true sexuality is "could break me in half"-sexual.

I realize most of my tweaks are on Sasuke's end. That is because loving Sasuke and being willing to sacrifice and compromise for him is like 50% of Sakura's personality. So mostly on her half she just has to learn to prioritize herself and her own feelings and communicate that, and most of these skills I think we see her actively cultivating as she integrates Inner Sakura into her outer personality. So I assume with age she'd only get better and better-- it is needed growth, but also I think it's closer to her canon trajectory that Sasuke's, so the solution is "just write her slightly better" LMAO.

I have relished the luxury of leisure. I was such a foolish young girl back then, thinking that wars were the norm for determining who would be the leader, and that living in poverty was a given in a small country with a few assets.

My visions immediately shift to my native nation, where I heard the cries of my fellow citizens and the feudal lord’s never-ending anarchy. I suddenly felt a strong sense of urgency inside as i grasp myself from what the elderly woman just told me

I held my chest and gandered at my old country. What am i supposed to do?

“That Tsunade..” My father grinned “Who does she think she is to lecture our child like that? She’s an old lady! What does she know about parenting?!”

“A privileged woman like her would never understand our situation”

I become stagnant and pondered..

What should i do? What am i going to do?

Should i follow the words from an elderly woman i just spoke of? Or my parents who raised me?

What does existence mean? Is having a will enough?

I went to my room and continue pondering about what she just told me

I closed my eyes and visualized our situation there.

Our shop is stolen unfairly.

We hardly make a living.

Why am i being carried away by an elderly woman’s words? I barely even know her.. nor she barely knows our past

Since that encounter, I have decided to become a Shinobi.

I thought it would be easier, I thought i could garner strength to be someone like her..

“Well, i might like a dozen too” Shikadai — Temari (the girl who kicked my ass during Chuunin Exam) and Shikamaru comments “This looks more refined..”

“Old Lady, Do you polish swords?” Inojin — Ino and Sai’s son asks

“Can i see your sword first?”

“For what purpose?”

“Well, so i can give it the polishing based on its materials”

“You’re so good at this. I thought you’re just a Plain Old Lady”

“We have to get these High-quality kunais for our mission” Boruto says while getting himself more box of kunais

Sarada looks beneath the shelf “Lady Tenten, What are those?”

“You sell Swords too!?” Inojin asks in amusement

“This isn’t an arsenal shop for nothing. I don’t just sell Kunais you know”

“Having a double sword in my back would make me cool!”

“This sword is fine! I’ll take one!” Boruto cries while smiling widely

“Since Boruto, gets his, I might want one as well”

“Geez Mitsuki”

I just look at them while smiling

“What a carefree kids”

[sighs]

“These children sure are lucky.. Living in the age of Peace.. even i could not imagine it as a kid..”

The young people purchased their orders and returned home, flexing their new weapons with delight.

As he launches another shuriken at the same dart, Mitsuki said, "I understand where Shikadai is coming from. Before my parents became infamous criminals in this village, they were a Shinobi. nevertheless, they betrayed the town because people viewed Power as a measure of authority and dominance.

Mitsuki and Shikadai’s words goes straight to my heart and have embedded in my mind.

What was i doing? What did i become a shinobi for?

I am shifted back to my old place again and witnessed the cruelty we escaped..

Did i become strong?

Or i just grew up to be a casualty?

A burden?

I need to take an immediate action..

Elderly Tsunade have blessed me with her trust and faith

He illustrates an eagle and exhibit his family’s specialized technique

He perpetuates the handsign and winks, saying, "All I need to do is navigate it from here."

And here i thought i successfully sneaked out just because i released all my chakra and sneaked around places that could possibly be guarded by jonins.

“Another mission completion! Yoohoo!” Inojin cheered

What an amiable child. When I was growing up, we spent more time exercising than partying. even if we successfully accomplished an S-rank task.

I feel like a heavy arm thrust landed on my chakra points. The next thing i know is..

"So, what's the deal with sneaking out of the village at this hour?"Ino questions

"Only I could solve this critical issue"

"Mind explaining it to us?"

Before I could react, Ino already conjured her jutsu on me.

"Tenten.. Could you please explain this crucial issue? Maybe we can help you.

Mind transfer jutsu, of course. You have the keys to my mind.

“We wish to help, Tenten”

"As I said, I’m the only one who could fix this..”

Ino puts her sharp stare on me

“Your country, is facing a huge crisis.. right?”

“This is the extent of my efforts, i guess. I suppose i’ll have Naruto talk to you”

She returns to herself and requests that Naruto be brought inside the room.

"Naruto," Ino remarks, "I've peered through her thinking and can ascertain that she intends to act on an extremely significant problem in her old village to her own. I ran out of arguments to persuade her. I'm turning her over to you.

“I appreciate your assistance, Ino.”
