TRIED SOMETHING NEW !!!
Tumblr media
Back when I was in my middle school , KPOP (Korean pop) was something that I was very fascinated about (kpop is not only about bts, yes! its beyond that). Every middle aged children has a dream destination where he/she wants to visit once in their lifetime , for me it is SOUTH KOREA. The sparkling cities of south korea, their lifestyle, their etiquettes and manners , cultural habits , educational institutions, night life etc etc etc.. are something that I’ve always cherished so much since a young kid. South Korea has developed a unique food culture as well connected to its long agricultural history. K- diet has been widely discussed due to usage of raw ingredients while cooking and serving. Korean meals is generally served with bap (cooked rice), kuk (dishes with broth) , kimchi and banchan (side dishes). The most common methods of cooking includes boiling, fermentation, blanching, seasoning and pickling. Sounds gross isn’t it?? We Indians normally use these methods while making aachar (pickle). But here, a complete nation’s cooking is based on fermentation , boiling and with less or no spices included. But trust me ! the simpler it is, the best it is for your health.
‘The k-diet is composed of bap and kuk, and various banchan with one serving called bapsang. Kimchi is always served at every meal. The principle aspects of the k-diet include proportionally high consumption of vegetables(namul) , moderate to high consumptions of legumes and fish, and low consumptions of red meat. Banchan is mostly seasoned with various jang (fermented soy products), medicinal herbs and sesame or perilla oil. Here, K-food & K-diet are two separate concepts. K-diet represents the traditional food culture, cooking methods and dietary habits and patterns. Whereas , K-food are the food constituents of K-diet. It includes food such as jajangmyeon ( noodles topped with thick sauce made of black bean paste, diced meat and veggies), pizza, fried chicken etc.’
Nothing I know that one day I’ll be able to taste the authentic taste of korea here in my own country (India). Okay okay! Let’s not talk about my country but in my homeplace “Guwahati” . Yes !!! you read it accurately [screaming in joy] isn’t it a electrifying news? . So without any dally I called my friend and went straight to the place “ KORI’S” to give my tastebuds a vacation. Once we reached their we were dumbfounded by looking at the ambience [as if KOREA is right infront of me]. We took our comfy place to sit and ordered a basket of chicken mandu (dumplings) as our starter, moving ahead we ordered a bowl of cheese tteok-bokki (simmered rice cakes) , bulgogi-dosirak ( sweet and salty bits of marinated pork with soy sauce , served with sticky rice and sides) , and gimbap ( cooked rice added with fermented vegetables, meats, and are rolled in dry seaweed paper and served in bit sliced pieces, served with sweet soy sauce) and glasses of fruit beer for refreshments and that’s all about our brunch.
The blend of traditional as well as modern way of cooking those items is truly appreciable. The authenticity of the food and its quality,,hats off to their crew!!! As I already said that most of the Korean dishes are cooked by either fermenting , boiling or slightly sauté of vegetables , and main ingredients used are soy sauce and vinegar. So there is a strong smell of vinegar and soy sauce in each and every dish except for the deep fried items. [oviously!why would someone use vinaigrette items to deep fry !!!!] For a newbie , you won’t be liking the strong smell at first [it takes few attempts for your tatsebuds to get adjusted] but one thing I can assure you that , once you taste Korean cuisines your tongue will need vacation everytime…
“Cooking is all about people. Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together. No matter what culture, everywhere around the globe, people eat together.”
XOXO

I’ve been hyper-fixating pretty hard on BTS since I found them in April and it’s honestly consumed my life lol. I have an app on my phone to learn Korean, I’ve tried some Korean recipes (so far nothing too difficult: some ramyeon, bulgogi, kimchi fried rice, kimchi jjigae, and I’m planning on trying gimbap next), and since seeing Jimin’s film concepts I’m relearning an art skill i haven’t tried since 2007? 2008? I’ve even tried dancing to my utter embarrassment 😅 I exercise more regularly now after deciding maybe I should Love Myself too. I was wondering if your love of BTS sparked an interest to try anything new? or maybe revisit something you used to love? I’m mainly asking because I feel completely unhinged, I haven’t been this obsessed with something since Harry Potter lol, and I want to not feel so alone in it. So if not, maybe some of your readers can chime in too? What new stuff has BTS introduced us to? 🐳💜
Omg, this is amazing though! I love that. I haven't been inspired like that. But I think it's amazing you have! I have opened this blog because of BTS though! Lol and it did help me get back into remembering how meaningful music always was for me growing up. I also finally dyed my hair purple! Which was something I'd been wanting to do forever and finally built up the courage to do so! And I picked purple for obvious reasons! Lol AND I did finally go buy those beginner books for learning Japanese! Which was a plan my husband and I spoke about on and off learning together before, but BTS encouraged that desire for me even more with how hard translated Japanese content is to come by! Lol
Tumblr media
If anyone else wants to chime in with their own answers please do! This is so wholesome and I love it completely! Either in the comments or in an ask!

Hi Daggs, I wanna hear more about this bomb korean place you're a regular at, the food sounds dope. What's your go-to order? What's your special treat? How much spice level do you handle? What's Siobhan's fav takeout place? Idk talk to me about good eats
aaHhhhh my favorite place to eat, it's so good! dont judge me, we always order like mother fuckers when we go and then eat leftovers for a week!
the staple take out order
grilled mackerel, cuz i just fucking love it and they usually run out, so if they have it, it's coming home with us
pajeon, which is my comfort food! my old roommate used to make them all the time, and sometimes we use them to make kimchi quesadillas when we're feeling particularly high
gimbap - they usually have egg, pork, pickled radish and burdock, but occasionally they've made yukhoe gimbap and that's basically a national holiday as far as im concerned
gamja-tang, which is the spiciest thing i think siobhan is willing to split with me 😂
bulgogi, it's a classic for a reason and it makes good left overs
tteokbokki for my lunches
japchae for siobhans lunches
if we're actually going to sit down and eat
steamed pork belly
rabokki to share. rice cakes AND ramen? it's spicy, it's t e x t u r e, it's amazing
more pajeon, my beloved
boy howdy, we sure do like to Go A Bit Overboard huh... 😅
siobhan has a new favorite place every single week, but right now it's this place she found that does this fried chicken sandwich with nashville hot slaw and pickled orka that RIPS, and like polenta fries with caramelized onion aioli. if she comes home with less than one of those, she's in trouble!

BB.Q Chicken Opens Its Seventh and Biggest Branch at Ayala Malls Feliz
Tumblr media
BB.Q Chicken, the ultimate destination for Korean-style fried chicken, has just opened its seventh and largest branch in the country at Ayala Malls Feliz. The Hungry Kat was invited to the exclusive Grand Opening last April 9, 2024 which was attended by owners Luis "Chavit" Singson and his family plus a selection of media guests and personalities that made the event truly special.
Tumblr media
You can find BB.Q Chicken's newest outlet at the fifth floor of Ayala Malls Feliz located along Marcos Highway corner Amang Rodriguez Avenue in Pasig City. BB.Q Chicken is a global franchise known for its mouth-watering Korean-style fried chicken, made with 100% extra virgin olive oil. It is also well known for its appearance on hit K-Dramas such as "Goblin" and "Crash Landing On You," so K-Drama fans can feel like they are part of their favorite shows.
Tumblr media
Filipino businessman and politician Luis "Chavit" Singson led the ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremonies for the country's biggest branch of BB.Q Chicken. He is the owner and Chairman of the LCS Group which brought the franchise to the Philippines. They opened their first branch in Bonifacio Global City in November 2022 and are expecting to open 10 more branches this year.
Tumblr media
BB.Q Chicken has expanded to 57 countries worldwide, operating a total of over 4,000 franchisees. The Ayala Malls Feliz branch comes with elegant and spacious interiors which is something you don't see at other Korean fried chicken outlets. It looks more like a hotel restaurant rather than a place you can visit at the mall.
Tumblr media
BB.Q Chicken actually stands for "best of the best quality chicken." BBQ Chicken believes that quality ingredients are the key to making their dishes stand out, using 100% extra virgin olive oil, the highest quality oil among olive oils, as a raw material for frying their chicken. This oil is often referred to as a "gift from God," giving the dishes their signature delicious and healthy taste.
Tumblr media
We attended the grand opening with a couple of our friends to experience the best of the best quality Korean fried chicken. The girls are really growing up so fast.
Tumblr media
BB.Q Chicken offers a wide range of dishes and beverages on the menu. They have juices, fruit shakes, sodas, beers, wines, and smoothies like the Ice Cream Float with Yakult (P169) with its big mug of Yakult shake topped with a scoop of ice cream. Everyone loved this and I actually ordered a second glass for myself.
Tumblr media
They also have signature BB.Q cocktails like the Seouljito (P250) which has a combination of peach soju, lime juice, mint leaves, ginger ale, and ronin peach. You can also try the K-Iced Tea (P250) which has soju, Monin lychee, Monic kiwi, green tea, and lemon juice.
Tumblr media
BB.Q Chicken offers more than just fried chicken with its savory appetizers, sides, signature sauces, and diverse flavors to satisfy any craving. We started with the Fried Sampler (P565) which comes with a trio of layered onion rings, French fries and cheese sticks.
Tumblr media
The Chicken Caesar Salad (P325) is a healthier alternative with its generous salad and crunchy vegetables topped with moist golden fried chicken strips and crispy bread.
Tumblr media
For a real taste of Korea, go order the Mixed Gimbap (P990) as it comes with combination of different flavors of gimbap including bulgogi, spam, spicy fishcake and tuna mayo. This can be shared by the entire table with plenty to spare.
Tumblr media
There's also the Kimchi Fried Rice with Egg (P345). This premium kimchi fried rice can go along with any of their fried chicken dishes.
Tumblr media
BB.Q Chicken's menu is truly diverse, especially with the Rose Seafood Pasta (P445). This dish is a mix of Eastern and Western flavors with seafood and spaghetti mixed in a delicious blend of spicy sauce and tomato cream sauce.
Tumblr media
Then there's the Cheese Dakgalbi (P755), a Korean-style braised boneless chicken cooked with vegetables including potatoes, carrots, leeks, and onions topped with lots of cheese.
Tumblr media
Now let's get to the main event, the Korean fried chicken! BB.Q Chicken offers several flavors and variants for their chicken like the Sweet Soy Chicken (P580-half / P1050-whole) where sweet and savory soy sauce meets its crispy chicken. This was probably my favorite flavor that afternoon.
Tumblr media
The other variants come with a little more spice like the Gangnam-Style Chicken (P595-half / P1070-whole). This crisp and golden olive chicken is stir-fried in high heat with chopped leeks and garlic. It's spicy, sweet, and sour all at the same time.
Tumblr media
Those who really want it spicy should go for the Red Spicy Chicken (P580-half / P1050-whole) with its spicy chili seasoning, Vietnamese chili powder, and exotic spices.
Tumblr media
One of the most popular dishes at BB.Q Chicken is the UFO Chicken (P1575). This big platter comes with a combination of two of their best selling chicken flavors, the Secret Chicken and Cheesling Chicken. The Secret Chicken is a golden fried chicken covered in bb.q secret sweet sauce made with about 20 ingredients including Korean chili paste, onion and garlic. This is the signature Korean fried chicken taste that is known all over the world.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, the Cheesling Chicken has fried chicken bathed and toasted with a generous amount of cheese powder. You can also order these two flavors individually.
Tumblr media
The UFO Chicken is served with a bed of cheese fondue heated on a portable stove so that makes it doubly cheesy. The cloudy mist that envelopes the platter gives it a majestic entrance that befits this grand dish.
Tumblr media
We would like to thank the LCS Group and BB.Q Chicken for inviting us to join the grand opening of their newest branch. I'm planning a trip to South Korea soon so this is a great introduction to the food and culture of Korea.

𝖙𝖑𝖉𝖗 /  JIN CATCHES UP WITH HIS BEST PAL. A CLOSED STARTER WRITTEN FOR HAN SAEM !
jindallae loves whenever he gets the opportunity to cook for someone out of pure enjoyment; the aroma of the dinner that’s on the burner causing his stomach to growl with anticipation. as he’s typically the guy who spends most of his nights on the prowl, it’s seldom that he allows himself to stay in and use his own kitchen—his motions slightly more awkward than they are on the line at the restaurant. it’s embarrassing to him that he forgets how he organized the cutlery and utensils in his own space, or that he genuinely has no idea where he stowed away his coveted spice blends, but little-by-little, he’s becoming reacquainted; piecing together a gorgeous, delectable entrée for he and saem to indulge in. the pair of them typically barhop together, so it’s only natural that, if one needs a night off, the other should follow suit.
not only are they giving their libidos a much-needed break, but it’s been awhile since they had the chance to simply sit and catch up. they see one another as often as time allows them to, but honestly speaking, jindallae can’t remember what saem’s been up to over the last few months, and that makes him feel like a terrible person and friend.
so, in preparation for tonight, he made homemade kimchi, steamed jasmine rice, and bulgogi gimbap as side dishes, but the star of the show is definitely the main course. saem’s mentioned wanting to try ratatouille before, and after looking into the recipe, jindallae thought it seemed simple, so he splurged on organic produce at the store, and has been hard at work since he got home. standing over the pot, he gives the fragrant stew a gentle stir, then turns his head to look at saem; offering a sly smile.
“you should make yourself useful and set the side dishes on the table,” jindallae quips, lifting the wooden spoon he’s using to taste test his creation; humming at its flavor. “dinner’s about done. it may not look as fancy as it did in the movie, but i don’t have an oven, so you’re just gonna have to suck it up.” with that, he carefully ladles two hearty servings for both of them into bowls he stole from work; garnishing them with fresh sprigs of basil leaves and salt. “you know me, i’m a meat lover through and through, but i’m excited to try this. that, and well, i could use some more veggies in my diet anyway...” he adds, carrying their meal to the table and setting them down.
