Second chapter is here! Contains actual fluff for once, and Zeb being hopelessly in love 😇
Summary: Kallus appears to be integrating quite well into the Rebellion, quickly garnering a crowd of admirers. But when Zeb, who is still struggling to come to terms with his feelings for his former nemesis, realises that the former agent isn’t all that happy with this and only actually wants the company of a select few, he makes an impulsive decision, giving Kallus something more special than it might outwardly appear.

Cikatro Vizago is the best villain because he's JUST enough of an asshole to be funny, but not so much of an asshole that I immediately want him to burn in a river of lava and get off my screen forever.

You know, somehow, I did not expect to come out of this rewatch actually having an appreciation for Vizago and realizing that Vizago actually fulfills the same narrative positions as both Hondo AND Kallus and manages it BETTER than both of them.
Vizago has a whole redemption arc of his own. He starts off selfish and unkind and only helps Ezra and the crew find Kanan when Ezra reveals that they’re both Jedi and Vizago recognizes the value of having a Jedi (in training) owe him a favor. But when Ezra later COMES THROUGH, it seems to change Vizago’s outlook a little and his very bloated attitude towards the Ghost crew that we see earlier on season one where he’s constantly screwing them over goes away a little. Ezra came through for Vizago, and yes, he’d owed Vizago a favor, but Vizago clearly didn’t entirely expect Ezra to do so. So it’s a pleasant surprise and causes Vizago to actually start looking at Ezra as something of a friend. To the point that when the Ghost crew needs someone to smuggle them back onto Lothal, Vizago agrees to stick his neck out to do so and it gets him big trouble and actually gets abandoned on Lothal by the crew. When they find him again, he thinks they’re there to rescue him and is understandably disappointed when he realizes they’re not, but the Ghost team has started to realize they can count on Vizago and do so once more and it pays off. Vizago never turned them in to the Empire despite being forced to do hard manual labor and even when discovering they had forgotten about him and abandoned him, still agrees to help them out and ultimately helps join their Rebellion until the end. He never leaves to do his own thing, he never just saves himself.
Vizago is a smuggler, a no-good thief, who is willing to help out a good cause for a price. Much like Ezra was when we first meet him. In this way, he parallels Ezra in the same way Hondo does, he’s selfish and out for his own gains all the time, unwilling to help anyone unless there’s something in it for him. Unlike Hondo, Vizago actually also has a connection to Lothal and becomes less annoying over time which makes his connection to Ezra more meaningful.
But through his connection to Ezra specifically, Vizago learns to be less self-serving and actually put himself out there to help other people because Ezra gives him reason to trust in the value of friendship. Like Kallus, Vizago starts off as a minor antagonist that’s pretty thoroughly unlikable and even dangerous to the Ghost crew, who has a single episode where he’s relying on one of the Ghost crew to save him and this experience changes his entire outlook. Unlike Kallus, I actually buy it with Vizago because Vizago’s crimes as presented in earlier seasons are fairly minor, he has less to redeem himself FOR generally, so he needs less time to believably turn around.
What an unexpected treat to get out of this rewatch!

Rebels. Brother of broken horns. Ezra was kinda acting like a kid who didn't want to his chores. How was seeing are favorite space pirate Hondo (Clone Wars gave us plenty of great characters) I knew Hondo was up to something. It kinda nice he believe he was friends with Obi-wan I think that who he meant when he said he was friends with a jedi. Ezra return the favor to Vizago, he was wasn't vert grateful.
While I can understand feeling overwhelmed and frustrated when you have all these different tasks piled on you at once, it’s something Ezra will need to get used to. It’s not going to get any easier from here on out.
Hondo! What a legend. So glad he managed to make a comeback in a different show. One of the best minor characters from Clone Wars for sure. It’s a shame he lost his crew and reputation, though it makes sense considering that the Clones Wars are over, meaning he can’t take advantage of the chaos anymore. Not to mention that the Empire is absolutely ruthless with anyone who interferes with their business.
Yeah, I figured from the start that Hondo was up to something shady. I love him, but he’s never to be trusted. And I turned out to be right, even if it worked out in the end.
I agree that he was taking about Obi-wan, it just makes the most sense. Nice to see some people, even a pirate, still have fond memories of the Jedi so many years after they were all but wiped out.
What a mess things turned into near the end. At least Ezra no longer had to worry about that favour, and he didn’t have to do anything too questionable.

was inspired by @mango-mya's s/i inspo board challenge and thought i'd give it a try! some of these are more influential than others but i'll still explain myself for each one ^^ i'll also include small tidbits that didn't make the image since they were moreso concepts and not characters
[reminder that kel uses she/her and he/him pronouns!]
---
appearance!
sintas vel: zeltrons tend to dress in darker clothes that are a serve, and sintas's look always felt like a look to me. i liked the idea of a darker crop top and jeans, and so i mentally kept it in the back of my head when thinking of outfit ideas
guy fieri: i needed something to contrast the otherwise sleek and somewhat spicy way that zeltrons tend to dress, and i also wear a a few flashy button-ups irl on fancy days, so guy fieri ended up on the inspo board for kel's outfit (and also he made me want to add shades). plus i'm built like him so that's a bonus
other inspo: for the outfit, i would google hot dark outfit pieces, specifically with leather or stuff like buckles and straps around the body. i actually have a screenshot of the shirt i modified for kel
Tumblr media
backstory / lore!
cere junda: in jedi fallen order, cere had given up the force after her padawan turned to the dark side due to the torture of the inquisitioners. her severing her tie to the force was driven by guilt and grief. i modified it a bit for kelesgan, who was a jedi youngling that never had a chance to be given a master before order 66 happened. he ended up being taken in by maul, who trained him in the dark side of the force. however, kel's guilt after learning maul's true motives (and realizing she was totally duped into being a sith) is what caused kel to run off and swear off using the force unless absolutely necessary for survival. i had a lot of enjoyment in the idea of a force user who struggles with that side of themself. it's a nice trope i wish we saw more :)
cikatro vizago: this one's a bit more straight-forward. vizago was a smuggler that sometimes gave help to the rebels, and then by the end of the series actively assisted the rebellion in liberating lothal. kelesgan was also a smuggler (funny enough, she worked with vizago and they even dated at some point) that joined the rebellion when attaching to the ghost crew like a tick
other inspo: i really really wanted a grey jedi type sona. that's it. that's the bullet point
personality / vibe!
lando calrissian: he's charming, he's a scoundrel, and he's very much what kelesgan is like (which is funny given these two also have a dating history, albeit brief). he lived for a while only joining fights when he saw "an angle", but then eventually had a change of heart and decided to join the fight against the empire independent of his own personal benefit. he is also a smooth-talking negotiator. i apply basically all of this to how i view kelesgan. she thinks she's the shit, and to an extent she kind of is the shit. kel has a charm in the way he holds himself, but he also had mixed reviews from those who knew him. (i also really like lando as a character. king)
dippy fresh: i am so sorry.......is what i would say if i was a BITCH! so anyways dippy fresh was mabel's way of viewing dipper in a version that was the Cooler Edition of dipper. and in a sense, kelesgan carries himself like he's All That and even comes off to ezra as the Cooler jedi master sometimes when kel eventually comes forward about his connection to the force. this causes major beef between kanan and kel before the two end up in a polycule with hera
other inspo: on the note of the last bullet point, part of me wanted to make a character that could be kind of like kanan but if he was very much the Cool Dad and not so much the Responsible Dad. i wanted kanan and kel to have beef of kanan initially wondering if he magically got replaced overnight by some big flashy pink loser. and then they kiss but that's not important rn
i'm sure there's stuff i'm forgetting but this is the general gist!

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x05 'The Occupation'
Tumblr media
Plot
Ezra and the Ghost crew return to Lothal, but find that the Imperial occupation has taken a much darker turn.
Female Characters: 3
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Mon Mothma
Male Characters: 10
Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Jai Kell, Ryder Azadi, Rex, Alexsandr Kallus, Cikatro Vizago, Erskine Semaj, Valen Rudor
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
Yes, this episode passes several times! Hera and Mon speak during the opening briefing scene. Hera and Sabine also exchange dialogue a few times during their mission.
This episode is a bleak one as we see how much Lothal has suffered under Imperial rule since our crew was last there.
Kallus thinking Hera left him in command of the Ghost.... girl puhlease. I love Rex's comeback to him when he says 'I've commended Star Destroyers.'
We get some nice callbacks to earlier seasons with the appearances of Jai and Vizago. It's also notable that Marida Sumar appears in this episode but has no dialogue.

The only Star Wars villain I like is Vizago from Rebels who is BARELY a minor antagonist for like a season before he becomes a reluctant, but competent, ally.
