Okay okay (@julyarya @winter-1023 @hanakihan @manawari )
30 AU WiPs for Woo Jin-Chul/ Sung Jin-Woo
Nimona AU: Sung Jin-Woo is branded on as the new criminal after killing King Go Gun-Hee and now Woo Jin-Chul has to go hunt him down.
Underworld AU: Sung Jin-Woo, King of the Underworld, meets a new soul that has decided to work as a minister in the Underworld.
Gods AU: With the coming of winter, the diety of the heavens Woo Jin-Chul decides to be the first to pay a visit to the Grim Reaper that everyone fears to even look at. He expected the casual gloomy darkness and his shinigami soldiers capturing other souls, what he didn't expect was the alarmingly handsome face of death itself.
Genderswap AU: All the sudden one of them (or both) have transformed into women and now have to live with it for a week.
Roleswap AU: Woo Jin-Chul doesn't like the fact that his shadow soldiers keep disturbing the little E rank of the association with more fun game to deal with, and keep acting like aunts and uncles trying to hint Jin-Woo to go on more dates with Jin-Chul.
Archeology/Lost civilization AU: Woo Jin-Chul discovers a hidden statue withing an underwater cave. Surprisingly, as soon as his skin touches the statue, it comes back to life and tells him to be the prince of a fallen kingdom, Sung Jin-Woo.
Galatea AU: Woo Jin-Chul's sculpture suddenly comes to life when he prays to the gods, not knowing that his sculpture is in fact acting as the mortal vessel for one of the lovestruck gods that always wished to meet him.
Angel/Demon AU: the Angel Woo Jin-Chul keeps making trips to the world of the dammed, both to seek repentant or lost souls, and to meet the king of hell. (Less biblical and more like Hell is just run by angels of a different kind, those being demons.)
Kingdom AU: Both the Kingdom of light and the Kingdom of darkness seek to end the war by giving one of thir own royals to marry and form a union. Instead of Hae-In, Woo Jin-Chul decides to step in and take her place in marriage so that she can rule the country in case the war still arises. He didn't expect to be the one to fall harder into his arrange marriage tho.
Royal/Concubine AU: In a country filled with corruption, Jin-Woo's first choice as a king is to keep a concubine withing the confines of his palace, unbeknownst to everyone else that he is slowly letting said concubine gain enough political power to overthrow the current royals in his palace.
Historical AU: A story long told of General Woo Jin-Chul trying to escape Jongsaeng Saja and at the end ending up in his arms either way.
Metamorphosis AU: Jin-Chul finds a stray on a rainy day and decides to wash it up and care for it, the next day he wakes up to some homemade breakfast... but he lives alone. And this keeps happening for so many nights (washed clothes, breakfast and dinner, his place clean.) And decides to just accept it until one day he wakes up earlier than usual to a man using his clothes and cooking eggs for breakfast. He also has cat ears and a tail too wait—
Coffee Shop AU: Barista Jin-Woo always loves to see his tired salary man come before and after his shift, sometimes on his breaks, to grab all kinds of coffee that Jin-Woo prepares for him.
Kraken/Sailor AU: Woo Jin-Chul’s thinks he is talking to a normal mermaid until all the sudden a ship tries to wreck his little boat and the kraken reveals his true power.
Writer/Reader AU: Sung Jin-Woo gets to meet his favorite artist after writing the book called Solo Leveling, and oh dear god why does his disheveled look makes him feel so hot all the sudden.
Scientist/Robot AU: Lee Ju-Hee really just sent him a servant robot created in their lab in order to let Jin-Chul split his chores among the house. He is not happy about it because of all the sudden glitches it makes, but it's not like he can return it, especially when he knows what will happen to those robots that do get sent back to the lab. And honestly, he doesn't mind it as much as he thought.
Immortal/ Reincarnator AU (thank @hanakihan for the idea): For centuries after the death of the Absolute Being, the scatter remnants of his soul unite in order to reincarnate into a human and find the only loyal being that has walked alone the universe since his death.
Vampire AU: Woo Jin-Chul attending a Ball Dance set by his lover, despite being really bad at these kinds of events. Not wishing to dance with anyone or listen to others anymore, he tries to convince Jin-Woo to let him go to sleep, and the other says he still has another event planned out for the night so he won't meet him in bed tonight. Jin-Chul is still burnout so he leaves and falls asleep, only to wake up in the middle of the night to see a bloodbath with Jin-Woo standing in the center of it.
Player AU: Woo Jin-Chul gets stuck with another system made by a ruler who wants to give his powers to someone so bad because he really really wants retirement. Unfortunately so does Jin-Chul and won't mind helping out the Monarchs if it means he gets his break from— oh what do you mean the Shadow Monarch he chose to help was good?!?
Exorcist AU: Woo Jin-Chul finds himself with a new demon attached to him after he finished his normal job, at least the demon helps him deal with the duke's of hell when it comes to his job.
Achellian AU: The two have to go to war no matter what the prophecy says, either way Jin-Chul, who is the only one still tied to that promise of long ago, doesn't want him to go through this, but Jin-Woo still persist, neither will let each other go alone, even if it's through the depth of the Underworld itself.
Tutoring AU: Woo Jin-Chul begins to tutor Jin-Woo and Jin-Ah who are both really great kids he swears, he also knows them really well since he babysat them when he was a teen, but now he is in college and he has to pay up his bills but he won't get that if Jin-Woo can't even pay attention to his lessons and like come on, he knows Jin-Woo is really good at studying so what is he doing wrong that the boy can't pay attention? What is it???
Idol AU: Local salary man listening to his favorite Kpop boyband but keeps repeating the same Jin-Woo solos and its driving Ju-Hee mad.
Fake Dating AU: Jin-Woo accidentally says Jin-Chul is his boyfriend. He goes to apologize saying that he just didn’t want to get any other S rank out to get his love, and every other person honestly. Jin-Chul, very tired and also thinking this might be a good chance to have Jin-Woo in his control, decides to let him keep "fake dating" him as long as he doesn't cause too much ruckus— wait why are you buying wedding rings with your mother?
Too many Dates AU: Nothing else except Jin-Woo dragging Jin-Chul out to a lot of dates because Go Gun-Hee said he needs a lot of breaks. All this including place dates that Jin-Chul also chimed in. Skating together, cuddling and watching movies, going to the beach, festival dates, normal outgoings, Jin-Woo may or may not also take him to other calmer dimensions to tour around the cosmos with him who knows.
Bodyguard AU: Canon but also prince Jin-Woo receiving a new knight Woo Jin-Chul to keep an eye on him since he tends to get into a lot of trouble and his father isn't having none of that.
Marathon Movie AU: "Two tickets to Barbie please." And both of them are wearing fuking pink. Behind them Esil and Hae-In are going to watch Oppenheimer.
Scum Villain AU: you CAN make it lmao, Woo Jin-Chul transmigates into the worst novel he has ever read by his favorite author (hehe Jin-Ho) as the scum villain teacher that darkens the white lotus Jin-Woo and oh hell no he isn't going to do because he is not going to die in a pickle jar! (Lmao Ju-Hee the perfect shijie for Jin-Woo, Hae-In who was supposed to be the graceful main concubine of Jin-Woo's og harem suddenly becoming a renowned fujoshi writer, and demon priest Esil totally not courting her after they had their lesbian sword fight no not at all—)
Tgcf AU: Woo Jin-Chul ascending for the third time and getting to meet the Supreme Ghost King on his first mission? Well he isn't complaining that's for sure. (Plus, Jin-Ah Banyue and Jin-Ho Pei su)
Adopting AU: Dragon's only need a manashower in order to catch, Jin-Chul during his trips with Jin-Woo around the cracks between dimensions, finds a dragon egg and decides to give him his mana, and thus a baby dragon is born and won't leave his sight. He feels weird about calling him a pet though considering the baby dragon keeps calling him mama. (Cue Jin-Woo dying in the background.)

Day 9: “I needed you”
Warnings: Lots of swearing, also references to what Bruce did while ‘convincing’ Dick to join Spyral
Fandom: DCU (Batfam)
Word Count: 1023
Characters: Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne
Notes: i absolutely despise the fact that Bruce just beat the shit out of his kid and then Dick got all the blame for spyral, so here is my frustration in story form <3
The Gotham skyline was a comforting sight, which is something Dick never thought he’d say.
He stood on top of some office building – he could recall the name if he cared enough to, but his mind was elsewhere. He could feel the cold wind that swept through the city, a stark contrast to Blüdhaven’s typically warmer weather. He supposed that was enough to draw contrast between the two cities. Blüdhaven was fiery temperatures and high humidity, while Gotham was icy winds and cold that felt like it seeped into your skin and your bones until there was no warmth left.
After a childhood spent in the cold, the warmth of Blüdhaven was something he’d come to appreciate. He liked to pretend he could ever truly warm again (he knew fully well that the cold was nestled too deep in his heart for that). It never stopped him from going back to Gotham, however.
The night’s visit was not one of leisure, much like it was not a voluntary one. Batman had asked for Nightwing’s presence for a debrief after his mission in Spyral.
It wasn’t Bruce needing Dick. It never was, not really. It was Batman needing a fellow vigilante. Nothing about their relationship was personal, and it probably never really would again. Not after what Bruce had done. He understood what would happen if he sent Dick to Spyral, and he did it anyway.
Dick remembered a mission he had been on with Bruce when he was still Robin, still young and optimistic and warm. They had been going after a well-known drug dealer in Gotham’s criminal circles, an older man. His son was involved in is business, and when Batman and Robin had caught them, the boy begged for forgiveness. He didn’t want to do it, he said – he was forced into it. He had no choice.
Robin barely even considered asking Batman if they could help him. He knew the answer was no.
Bruce had said later that night that children always had a choice. They could end up like their parents, or they could fight to carve their own path. He said that the boy hadn’t fought to carve his own path, and his weakness was his own downfall. Dick sometimes wondered if he’d end up like Bruce, if he’d fought hard enough to carve his own path.
Seeing as how he was 22 and had already died, he reckoned that he was definitely doing worse.
Was that his fault that he was following in Bruce’s footsteps as an emotionally crippled, mentally unstable maniac? Was it down to his inability to carve his own path, or Bruce’s downfalls in raising him? Because giving a revenge crazed nine year old a superhero costume and sending him out to fight bad guys is definitely not how you raise a healthy, stable child.
He wondered how different he really was to the boy, sometimes. Their fathers (father figures, Dick mentally corrected himself. He was never adopted) had handed them a piece of their fucked up business, and the sons had met their downfalls with them.
A small noise next to him and the small shift in the roof beneath his feet told Dick that Bruce was here. That Batman was here. The two of then stood, shoulder to shoulder, in silence for a few seconds. Dick felt wildly uncomfortable.
The cold was everywhere in Gotham.
“Nightwing,” Batman’s gruff voice had started. “I’m glad you agreed to meet. We need to discuss– ”
“I needed you.”
The silence turned from cold to shocked in a split second. Dick couldn’t find it in himself to hold back anymore.
“I fucking – I had just been killed. Murdered by Lex Luthor, and the first godforsaken thing you do is, is– ” He has to stop himself from smacking the shit out of Batman, who’s stun was visible through his cowl. “The first fucking thing you do is beat the shit out of me, before sending me to be a spy for your stupid little fucking mission. And of top of all that, you let Jason and Tim and Damian and Steph and – all of them, my fucking family Bruce, you let them think I was…”
He let his hands fall from where he’d been gesturing wildly. His arms hung uselessly at his sides, all the fight gone from him. It had been Bruce’s fault.
Bruce still stood there at his side, looking at him with wide eyes through the cowl. It was the most outwardly expressive Bruce had been in years, and Dick had to fight an inappropriate laugh at the thought. Dick continued to look at the skyline, refusing to meet Bruce’s eyes.
“You’re clearly upset Nightwing, so I believe I’ll take my leave. Let me know when you’re ready to give your full report.”
And at that Dick actually did laugh, a short, bitter sound that ended before it really started. Bruce had schooled his expression into something carefully neutral again, his mouth set in a line slightly too hard to be truly uncaring. He stayed, and Dick couldn’t really figure out why – he seemed to be waiting for Dick’s response.
“Well go on then. It’s what you’re best at anyway, isn’t it?”
Bruce raised his hand and hesitated, seemingly debating something. He moved it to rest on Dick’s arm and opened his mouth to say something.
“Son…”
Dick flinched hard enough to shake his hand off. He took a staggering step backwards, away from Bruce and from Gotham and from the terrible, unending cold.
“Don’t,” He was surprised by how hard his own voice was. “You made it abundantly clear before I left that I am not your son. I’ll have the report to you by the end of the week.”
He knew it was a childish move, but he left the roof before Batman could. Moving through the buildings and the cold, he knew that Gotham was no longer his city.
He had needed Bruce. And the man hadn’t been there, so Dick had moved on to survive without him. He wasn’t Bruce’s son.
But that didn’t mean that he wasn’t damaged.

10. voice kink
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Challenge/Prompt:
#kinkmas2020 Day 10: voice kink: sexual arousal from the sound of another’s voice
Warnings: Smut, voice kink, Dom/sub undertones, unwanted kiss
Pairing/s: Emily Prentiss x Reader
Authors Note: This is exactly how I imagine Emily and my OC Olivia met but I’ve deliberately kept this vague so you can read it however you like.
Word count: 1023
AO3
Tumblr media
The first time you met Emily Prentiss you heard her voice before you saw the woman herself. A spark of pleasure shot up your spine and you sat up straighter in your office chair, looking through the glass panel windows to the rest of the office floor trying to place the source. You spotted the tall brunette being accompanied towards you by a member of your team and tried to compose yourself before they entered your office. Her voice washed over you as you were introduced and she proposed a joint operation, thankfully you had enough sense left in you to ensure she got your business card and instructions to email you and formally begin working together. Her smile and those big brown eyes framed by the longest lashes had hypnotised you almost as much as her voice had and it was with a groan of frustration that you read her subsequent email and realised you’d be working closely and in person with this intoxicating woman.
The job lasted a full two months, two months in which you contacted every casual partner you knew in the city in an effort to release the sexual tension working with Emily built up in you. She was so easy to get on with and you worked well together, the difficult part was keeping the flirtation to a minimum. You thought you’d scared her off three weeks in when you’d met up to exchange information and it led into drinks and dinner. Your booty call the previous night had fallen through and you could feel how aroused she was making you as the evening wore on. Emily was cheeky with a few drinks in her and a lot more forward too, flirting readily and you were powerless to stop her when she was so obviously enjoying herself. You couldn’t remember what had prompted it but the look of fear in her eyes when you had challenged her to make you behave was enough to throw cold water on the evening and force you to be on your best behaviour for the remainder of the case.
The night you closed the operation Emily suggested you go out. She wanted to dance and since you knew London better than she did it was up to you to pick a spot. Throwing caution to the wind now you were no longer colleagues you picked the LGBT bar close to your flat which you knew was having a women’s night. Her vibe said queer, and your gaydar had rarely been wrong but she also flustered you in a way no other woman ever had and you were unsure of your deduction skills with her because of it. The space was packed with women, many of whom you knew well, and more than a few you knew intimately. You introduced Emily as you went, but she kept up with you, ignoring several obvious attempts at flirtation. You’d almost given up on finding out if she ever batted for your team when another of your ex’s approached the two of you. Emily excused herself to get in more drinks and you indulged in the heavy flirtation that was coming your way. You hadn’t intended it, still having one eye on Emily at the bar when suddenly your ex was all over you. You were trying to extricate yourself from her hold when Emily’s voice met your ears, close and commanding. ‘Let her go, she doesn’t want this.’ Breathless from the physical aural assaults you stepped back as your ex looked Emily up and down before holding her hands up in defeat, deciding wisely against engaging in confrontation. You couldn’t blame her, you wouldn’t have taken Emily on right then, she exuded power and control which quickly melted to concern once you were safe again. Pulling you into one of the single occupancy toilets where you could catch your breath properly and hear each other without yelling she checked you over, asking repeatedly if you were alright before you managed to get yourself together enough to answer her.
‘I’m ok, she didn’t hurt me, she just caught me off guard.’ Emily was nodding but her eyes were still wide with concern and when she didn’t speak you threw all caution to the wind and spoke again. ‘What was that back there? It wasn’t like she was holding me down. Do you rescue every woman from unwanted attention?’ Your heart was thumping in your ears as you tried and in your mind failed to keep your tone joking. The fear flashed back across Emily’s eyes and she nervously wetted her lips with her tongue as she searched for an answer. ‘I don’t know, I was at the bar one moment and then... I don’t usually...’ Her words trailed off but you knew you hadn’t imagined the way her eyes were moving between your own eyes and your lips. You moved slowly, giving her every opportunity to move away before your lips met and your heart stopped beating. The world went silent, the only thing in it was Emily standing so close, your hand at her hip and her lips on yours.
When the room finally rematerialised along with the thumping bass from the club outside the bathroom door you were both breathing fast. It was your turn to search her eyes for a sign that she was ok, that you hadn’t been wildly off base in your reading of her. Before you could really comprehend it she had a hand in your hair and was pressing you up against the cool tiles, her lips hungrily exploring yours. She would ask you later what it was that first attracted you to her but by then she was well aware of the impact her voice had on you. From that first time when she slid her fingers between your folds as she whispered about how she’d wanted to do this since she met you to the nights she would blindfold you and watch your body react when she spoke filthy things against your skin Emily knew damn well the power she held over you with just her voice.

Action Comics #1023 Review
“The House of Kent: Part 2″
Action Comics #1022 “House of Kent: Part 1″ Review
Tumblr media
Hoo-boy.
I actually appreciate this recap page, I really do, but it just rubs me the wrong way. I’m not sure if it’s the content of the recap that pisses me off or if it’s for the fact that they literally just took a page from the previous issue and slapped in some new dialogue (see Bendis’ Man of Steel mini for this to be taken to the extreme).
Most likely the latter, but there’s a good argument for the former because reading objective statements about what Bendis has done tends to do that. I guess what they could be going for is for something similar to when Svengoolie comes back from commercial break and it’s a still from the movie with Sven’s face superimposed somewhere and he makes a quip about the movie before it starts back up again.
But I digress. It fills me in on what’s been happening in the book and that’s what I needed it to do.
Tumblr media
The art really goes down in quality since last issue. Romita, Jr.’s pencils aren’t as good, Janson’s inks are heavier and a lot more boring, and Anderson’s colors are bland and flat and not as lively. There are a few good spots and I’ll point them out, but they’re infrequent, and overall, the quality of the art is much more similar to the art in the Metropolis Doom arc than it is to last issue. This leads me to believe that editorial only gave the art team enough time over the pandemic-induced break in publishing to produce one good issue before forcing them back into a deadline where Romita, Jr.’s work is not as good and tends to suffer.
Red Cloud attacks and attempts to kill Jimmy Olsen instead of Lois Lane to send an even greater message to her and Clark.
For those of you that don’t know, the Invisible Mafia speak in code to avoid detection by Superman’s super-hearing and meet in areas surround by lead to hide from his supervision. In the beginning of this confrontation, no one says anything that Superman would respond to if he hasn’t already tuned it out, which is why Lois says out loud her nickname for her husband to get his attention.
Tumblr media
It’s a sign of affection for them and could be utilized for such a scenario, but I don’t see why she had to say his nickname over anything else to get his attention. Maybe because since he revealed his identity to the world his real name is being said a lot more often in non-criminal ways, so he doesn’t respond to it as much as he has in the past. I’m not sure if I’m trying to come up with a rational excuse for what is actually a writer’s weird and out-of-character creative choice or if it’s what an actually competent writer intended for a discerning reader to infer and get joy from a successful analysis.
Regardless, it’s what got Superman’s attention at the end of Superman segment in the last issue. I don’t think what was supposed to be conveyed with those panels last issue was accurately conveyed by the art. Either Romita, Jr. didn’t sufficiently depict (but still beautifully rendered) what Bendis had directed him to draw, or Bendis had poorly directed Romita, Jr. in what he wanted him to draw. With this added context, however, these panels do make a lot more sense, but only with the added context. Without it, the scene is a little unclear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can clearly see the change in art with the two issues side by side like this. This issue, the art just doesn’t look as good. It’s just kinda blegh. It accomplishes what it needs to convey the story, but in a very boring and unspectacular way.
Tumblr media
Also, this panel is very Harry Potter to me. Superman’s more subdued face is similar to that of book!Dumbledore in Goblet of Fire, but the almost hyperbolic dialogue is more akin to that of movie!Dumbledore. It’s very dissonant.
Tumblr media
I really want to hate the humor of this panel, but it’s just so fun, so I won’t.
Tumblr media
This is a really cool panel, one of the few standout moments, but I have issues.
First, I may have enjoyed the humor in the last panel, but Bendis’ attempt at humor with Jon here just makes me want to cringe. Whenever Bendis makes Jon talk, it just pisses me off and makes me want to stop reading.
Second, I see what they were going for with the glowing eyes, but this is some more of that dissonance between the art and the writing. It actually looks quite menacing, but the dialogue has a more humorous tone. Also, the actual effect for the glow is just two red circles, making their eyes look more like flashlights than radiating energy. I also want you to keep this moment in the back of your minds, I’ll refer back to it in a second.
Tumblr media
I think the dissonance is the result of the Bendis-speak, where some of the characters are quippy, but other characters are playing the situation straight and are reacting accordingly to the incorrect behavior. There’s nothing wrong with a superhero comic being light-hearted, but it just doesn’t quite fit here. All the right ingredients are present, but they’re not all in the right proportions.
Tumblr media
Another panel I really like. The smoke and its color are really well done, especially in contrast to the all black silhouettes except for their back logos of the Supers.
Tumblr media
The eye glow effect looks much better here. It’s simple yet powerful.
Tumblr media
I don’t know how important this revelation is actually supposed to be, so I’ll defer to the depiction of the comic instead of playing the fool and acting upset about something I’m ignorant about simply because I’m not a fan of the writer.
Tumblr media
This moment is cool and all, but I don’t think Conner has super-breath. He doesn’t actually have the powers of Superman, he uses his tactile telekinesis to mimic some of the powers of Superman.
The “extreme high-velocity super-speed” was this issue’s first indication that Bendis might not know anything about this character he has stewardship over, but that can just be chalked up to Superman not remembering the powers of Conner. We don’t know the upper limit of Conner’s tactile telekinetic flight, nor should we care, it’s supposed to be a fun line.
The second indication is that Conner is shown to have heat vision when his eyes glow alongside Clark and Jon’s. He only has heat vision when he wears special goggles or a visor. Again, he doesn’t have all the powers of Superman. Tactile telekinesis only covers so much of Superman’s powers. But this can be forgiven because it is a pretty cool image.
“Once Is Chance, Twice is Coincidence, Third Time Is A Pattern.” This panel is the third instance of Bendis’ lack of understanding of Conner’s character. If this was the only instance, this would be fine, but it’s not. The moment is cool, but it’s a bridge too far.
Refer to my review of the first issue for more of Bendis not knowing anything about Conner.
EDIT: Thanks to @thebartallenblog for pointing out to me that Conner does in fact start developing more Kryptonian powers outside of his tactile telekinesis in the 2003 Teen Titans  book by Geoff Johns, so Bendis does in fact know more about the character than I give him credit for, which is more than I can say for myself in this instance.
Also, this moment goes on for way too long, almost two entire pages. Beautiful, the art of decompression and wasting reader’s time and money.
Tumblr media
“Should I super-inhale?” Shut up, Bendis.
Also, why is Red Cloud is so fixated on Superman’s family instead of just Superman. Does the Invisible Mafia have something against his family as well? It was my understanding that they have it out for him specifically, anything that is ancillary to him is extraneous and not worth their time.
Tumblr media
“Hey! It’s not my favorite super-move on a good day.” Then why the fuck did you even make him suggest it, Bendis?
Tumblr media
I don’t know if loved ones referring to Lois as Ma is something Bendis has been trying to push as a character quirk or if it’s some sort of weird one-off. Either way, I don’t like it. It’s not bad in of itself, don’t get me wrong, it’s just not my thing and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Again, I’m not sure how significant Jimmy figuring out Red Cloud's identity is supposed to be to the plot and the narrative, but this seems to be a bit of lampshading from a writer who literally has no right to be lampshading.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Couldn’t give a shit about the plot, I’m just here to nitpick. Next.
Tumblr media
Feels a bit janky in the art department, but the dialogue is surprisingly in character. They all feel like they have their actual voices. It’s a nice little moment.
I would address all the instances of Bendis making Jon talk, but that would make this longer than it already is, so I’ll only do it when it’s particularly egregious.
Tumblr media
Red Cloud comes back and attacks not!Jon and I couldn’t care less. Kill the bitch. Please.
The next two pages are a lot of nothing, just a boat load of Bendis-speak.
Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure this played out a lot differently and more humorously in Bendis’ head when he wrote it down and Romita, Jr.’s art makes it all the more funny but for all the wrong reasons.
Tumblr media
Who’s his partner? Officer Tomasi?
You know when I said that one panel with Lois, Clark, and Jimmy was written really in-character? This panel with Conner and Jon is the exact opposite of that.
Red Cloud and Ms. Leone have a fun back and forth for two pages. It’s a good example of Bendis-speak working well.
Tumblr media
“Black Label Club?” One meta-reference is enough, but two is stupid. I actaully feel a little conflicted nitpicking this, but Black Label is in such a weird place right now, so why reference it?
But “Clark Kent walked into a bar...” is a pretty bad ass line, very John Wick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A very cool sequence, but it’s full of Bendis-speak and very decompressed.
Tumblr media
Why the fake-out of the Superfamily executing a gangland-style shooting with Jon being the one pulling the trigger? I get it’s a story beat the narrative is supposed to hit, but still.
Tumblr media
The reveal is pretty funny, shrinking the club, so it’s a little forgivable, but the set up and the pay off don’t quite match. It’s just another example of that dissonance I’ve been mentioning.
Tumblr media
I know that “supersons” line was put there by Bendis as a deliberate dig at his detractors, so I’m not going to take the bait and get pissed. Nice try, big guy.
All in all, this issue was not as bad as I initially thought. It’s series of some really big highs and lows.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next two days weren’t easy, but they were a lot easier than what you expected. Each day, Spence got up and he went to work. Except for Emily, no one else knew you were back and you two agreed to keep it that way. You wanted some time to yourself to decompress.
You spent the first day completely cleaning, making the house spotless. Of course, you called Dexter and talked to him briefly, telling him he could breathe easy. He thanked you and tried to reassure you again, but you told him you still weren’t sure if Spence was totally on board with being married still. He hadn’t said it, but the fact that he barely looked at you was reason enough to worry. You told him to give your love to Rita and the kids, say hi to Deb, and you’d talk to him again.
You made dinner and Spence ate it happily, but he ate it at the kitchen island, rather than the table where you sat. This crushed you, but you had to just keep reminding yourself that he needed time, that this was better than a jail cell.
You crawled into bed that night, your heart breaking at the coldness, the isolation, the unfamiliarity of the guest room. You laid there, silence surrounding you for hours. You tried to sleep, but it never came. How could it? Just because the threat of imprisonment was gone, that’s not what you worried about, that’s never what bothered you the most.
All you wanted now was your husband back, but you knew that might be a while, a good while.
You weren’t sure what time it was, but the door to the guest room clicked open and you laid still, wondering what Spencer was up to. Even for a flicker of moments, you slightly worried he was here to kill you. It might’ve been irrational, but maybe he couldn’t cope with his wife being a serial killer and instead of watching you go through trials and prison, he’d just end it.
After a second of silence though, you felt the covers lift and he crawled into bed behind you, placing a hand on your hip, kissing your bare shoulder exposed by a tank top.
You rolled over to face him.
“You’re awake?” he questioned, slightly confused.
“Can’t sleep.”
“Me either.”
“I haven’t been able to sleep since you found out,” you confessed.
“Even though I’m not turning you in?” he wondered, peering at you.
“That’s never what I worried about, not really,” you informed, tears escaping quietly. “I was worried you’d leave me. If you felt you had to turn me in as an agent, I would understand that. But… leaving me, that was something I wouldn't have been prepared for. I knew it was a possibility, I knew you might not accept me, what I’d done, but that doesn’t mean I was ready for it -- for this. Sleeping apart, wondering if you still love me, if you still want me, if you can be around me--”
He held up his hand to your face, thumbing away a tear. He smiled at you. “Y/N, I’ll always love you. I still love you. That hasn’t changed. Of course I want you. I just… needed some time.”
You nodded. “I know. I don’t expect you to welcome me with open arms, but we’ve barely talked, and we aren’t sleeping together and… and it’s killing me,” you admitted, tears still flowing heavily.
“I know, me too.” He slowly leaned forward and gave you a small kiss on the lips, making you feel utterly alive for the first time in weeks. “I love you, and I want to make this work.”
“I do too. In any way I can, just tell me what I can do.”
Spence looked down. “For starters, you could come to me first, if you get those urges again.”
You nodded fervently. “I can do that.”
“And no more lying. Even if you break and you go off and kill on your own before telling me, just… let me know. I want to know. I want to be the one you come with when you’re facing this.”
You pressed your lips together in a line. “It’s not a compulsion, Spence. I don’t need to do it. I want to do it. I won’t have any problem stopping for you, if that’s what you really want.”
He paused for a moment, not saying anything as you could see the wheels turn in his head. “It’s not so much my matter of opinion. Whether I support your… vigilante justice or not, isn’t what I’m worried about. I’ve been to prison, wrongly. I don’t want to see you get caught for this. I don’t want to see you go through what I did. I just really need you to stop for your safety, and our happiness. I don’t want to spend our married life visiting you in jail.”
You nodded, your lips turning up slightly in understanding. “I know. I understand that.”
He slowly leaned forward and kissed you softly, his lips lingering on yours, and it felt like heaven.
“I think… that if we’re going to get back to what we were, to get back to normal, we need to do just that.”
“You mean like pretend everything is normal?” you questioned, slightly confused.
“No, not pretend. I’ve accepted what you’ve done and forgiven you. I mean truly go back to normal. You sleep in our bed, we go back to work together, we eat dinner together… Unless, for some reason you want to take things slower.”
You shook your head rather animatedly. “I’d like nothing more, honestly. If we could just get back to where we were before all this, I’d be happy.”
“Then, I think that’s what we should do,” he said with a smile. “Let’s start with getting you in the right bed.”
You nodded as the two of you got up and Spencer offered you his hand. You took it more than happily and he led you back to your bedroom. The rightful place where you should be.
Regrets and Sorrows
This is my entry for @literallyprentissstwin‘s 600 writing challenge!! congrats aileen!! ily!!!
The character she assigned to me was Spencer and the prompt was “I don't know how to look you in the eye after the things I've done.”
so,,, be prepared for angst
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Reader, Spencer Reid x Maeve Donovan
Warnings: Cheating, breakups
Word Count: 1023
Spencer Reid knew that this was not what he had wanted to happen.
He was in love with Y/N and she was in love with him. They’d been together for 8 months and they were genuinely happy with each other in their lives. Y/N had just given him a key to her apartment and they’d already planned out so much of their life together. They were going to get married, have their honeymoon in Bali, and have three lovely little kiddies. The first two would be boys named Joseph and Jason, the third and youngest being a little girl named Laila. They knew everything and they both thought it’d totally work out.
Except Y/N finally encouraged Spencer to get help for those headaches he’d been getting.
And for a couple of months, now, Spencer has been speaking with Doctor Maeve Donovan about things that don’t even have to do with his brain scans anymore.
He knew this was wrong, the way that he’d smile when he’d think of Maeve and the way he was keeping secrets.
He knew he had to tell her and he knew that it probably wouldn’t end well as he’d basically done the unforgivable, even if not physically. Cheating was cheating was cheating.
Spencer, however, wasn’t the only one keeping secrets as Y/N had recently found out that she was pregnant.
She was nothing but excited yet terrified at the same time. Was it too soon for them? They wanted to wait after their marriage for children yet there was a little baby in her, a baby that was going to be their world soon.
At least she hoped that’s how it was.
Spencer needed to tell her what he’d been hiding, the weight on his shoulders got nothing but heavier every time he’d leave work early before going to Y/N’s place just to fit in a call with Maeve and leave Y/N’s early in the morning using work as an excuse when all he wanted to do was call Maeve again.
Poor Y/N, so trusting that she believed every word, always kissing him goodbye and wishing him nothing but luck.
Both Spencer and Y/N had secrets from one another and both were terrified to tell the each other. All they needed was the push.
Y/N was the one who got pushed first. She wanted to see the doctor about the little baby in her yet she didn’t want to do it without the baby’s father. Best get it done now rather than later. That’s why she asked Spencer to come over for dinner. Her plan was to tell him, no surprises, no fluff... Just say it and if it works, they’ll eat dinner. If it doesn’t, he’ll leave and she’ll raise the baby on her own.
Simple.
Oh dear lord how she wished it actually was simple.
Knowing his distaste in texting, Y/N called the man, knowing it’d go to voicemail because he was at work. When the dial pinged, she spoke gently, “Hey darling, it’s me.. Anyways we really need to talk, I have something of importance that shouldn’t be said over the phone. Come for dinner tonight.. Bye, I love you..”
When Spencer heard the voicemail, he sighed quietly. If there was something important to her, he had to tell her what he’d been doing. It was only fair if the news was so important.
The anxiety was obvious within Spencer when he knocked on the door, not feeling it fit to use his key with the news he bore. He smiled softly when Y/N opened the door for him, hugging her gently and pressing a soft kiss to her head as he made his way inside the apartment.
Y/N followed behind him, sitting on the couch and patting the spot beside her with a soft smile on her lips. Had she not been so anxious as well, she’d probably have noticed his tension.
Spencer sat down next to his girlfriend, clearing his throat lightly. He wanted to get this done so he spoke before Y/N could even open her mouth, “Before you speak, I have something I want to- no need to tell you.”
Y/N’s brows furrowed ever so slightly in confusion as she looked to him, resting a hand on his shoulder, “What is it?”
Spencer didn’t know what to say.. He couldn’t even meet her eyes, his glued to his hands folded in his lap, “I don't know how to look you in the eye after the things I've done.”
Y/N, immediately filled with worry, scooted closer to him, her arm moving around his waist, “Hey, what did you do? We can fix it..”
He knew that all outcomes would probably not be good so he figured he’d start at the beginning, which he did. He seemed to talk for hours as he spoke of the geneticist and how one thing led to another. He couldn’t look at Y/N as he spoke, but he could feel her reaction.
It started off by her removing her arm from around his waist. From there, it went to her scooting away from him to the other end of the couch. By the end of him speaking she was standing on the other side of the room, biting back the tears and rolling her eyes when he said nothing physical every happened.
Spencer stayed in his seat as Y/N’s bottom lip quivered. She didn’t know how to react. She couldn’t tell him what she wanted to say now, he’d broken her heart.
That’s why she walked to the door, slipping on her shoes. The last thing she said to him was simple, “I want all of your stuff out of my home by the time I get back. Take the pictures too, maybe your geneticist would like to use them to decorate the home the two of you have together.”
There was a slam of the door as Y/N exited...
And then nothing but silence in which Spencer Reid sat and wept, his sobs filled with regret and sorrow.
NEXTDOOR — SAFE? THINK AGAIN!
Tumblr media
Nextdoor — hunting ground for criminals & conmen.
Contrary to Nextdoor marketing the online community as a “safe place to share information about crime and neighborhood activities”, the community has become a hunting ground for criminals. The notion Nextdoor is a private social network for you, your neighbors, and your community is false. Anybody can advertise and anybody can view your posts and profile you.
Nextdoor boasts -“Over 90% of US neighborhoods use Nextdoor to get recommendations, help find lost pets, receive safety alerts, and much more”.It’s the “much more”, Nextdoor doesn’t tell you about that is alarming.
I was recently victimized by a conman Manny Regalado AKA Manny Leon Regalado II. He has a current and active advertisement on Nextdoor as a handyman/remodeler under A to Z Contracting Corp. The Nextdoor ad links to a website enticing seniors, women and charities, offering services at a discounted rate. I am not a regular Nextdoor user, and joined to help reunite pets brought in to the animal shelter I founded over 30 years ago. Whisker City is located in Shoreline, Washington and serves King County. One of our volunteers found Regalado’s Nextdoor ad and used him for a small job. While he was working on her house he made a point of endearing himself to her neighbors. By the time she recognized his shoddy workmanship, he had started small jobs for a couple of those neighbors. She was too embarrassed to warn others or share her story at Whisker City. I was his next victim.
Regalado is a hardened criminal. Once he selects his victim, he infiltrates their space and minds with overly friendly and inappropriate comments and conduct. He weaves stories of wealth and celebrity and talks endlessly about himself and achievements, all convincingly fabricated. I’ve spoken to many of his victims and we all share the same observations. Like myself, they never liked the guy and he made them feel uncomfortable. When Regalado is caught in a lie he claims the listener misunderstood or forgot what he said. When flawed workmanship is pointed out he blames the sub-contractors or offers to come back and fix the mistake. If and when he returns minus the sub-contractors, his lack of skill is revealed and he causes more damage. When I complained about the leaks on the bathtubs and faucets he used pliers against the chrome fixtures and tightened against the chrome without protection, severely scarring fixtures. He yelled at me, “why didn’t you tell me these needed new washers?” All the plumbing and fixtures have to be replaced by the new contractor.
Best advice — Trust Your Gut
His victims all share the gut feeling “there is something wrong with this guy”. In my case he bought gifts of flowers and wine and played romantic music on his boom box. When I asked him to stop he would talk about how he only dated older women. I and uses terms like “friend” and “nothing but love”. He brags about spending $200 on dinner for himself and the daily massages he deserves. He makes a point of knowing your neighbors, employees and anyone who comes on premises. Many times I wanted to get rid of him and pointed out his annoying behavior directly to him. He would employ a childlike voice, tucking his head with an upward gaze begging “pity me”. While working with homeowners in Los Angeles, he pretended to be a 5 Star Brentwood Designer, switching gender identity to win over targets. He was able to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from friends, associates, charities, subcontractors and suppliers. Eleven judgments are recorded in Los Angeles County against Manny Regalado. He is now in King County roiling through Shoreline unchecked.
There is no doubt, Manny Regalado is a predator and passes writer, Carolyn Stebers summation of how to recognize a sociopath. He avoids arrest primarily because law enforcement is ill equipped to deal with embezzlement, construction and insurance fraud. I filed a police report on Saturday, October 12, 2019, case # c19039144 with King County Sheriff’s office. Today, nine days later I received an email a detective has finally been assigned my case. Fortunately, for this detective, I’ve already done the work. I compiled the credit card charges of nearly $6000 in purchases Regalado embezzled along with nearly $6000 in Home Depot store cards he got with items returned without receipts from materials purchased for my job. I met with his landlord and discovered he has not paid rent in four months and his garage is filled with many of the tools he purchased on my cards. He was observed on Sunday, October 20, 7:30 AM loading his truck from that garage housing my tools, most likely heading to the home of another victim he gleaned from his Nextdoor advertisement.
Back to the dangers of Nextdoor. Two weeks ago, after I discovered Regalado’s embezzlement and damage to my home, I posted my entire story on Nextdoor. Neighbors thanked me and shared by post. A Nextdoor administrator disabled my account for violating community standards. I created another account and this time listed a website with all the information I had discovered about Regalado. Nextdoor cancelled that account for self- promotion and violating the rules. I messaged the CEO Sarah Friar from Linkedin essentially begging her to disable his ad. Still no response. Good on ya, Sarah.
Manny Regalado is at large in Shoreline, Washington appears to be unstoppable. Will you be next?
