Specialist appointment today.
Guess what all my lab work all my test look great. I hate that. I wonder if I'd be happier with a reason or if it would scare me.
For now just hope it gets better. We can do different tests in a couple weeks. For now just starve.
I went shopping for some small foods I can eat that should be easy on me. Veggies to cook, some yogurt and some juice. I guess the weightloss continues.

Happy Disability Pride Month to
The GI issues! No one wants to talk about GI issues, but here we go! Some of them are:
Celiac Disease
Lactose Intolerance
Crohn’s Disease
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Barrett’s Esophagus
Colon Polyps
Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome
Diverticulitis
Dumping Syndrome
Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency
Gastroparesis
Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction
Microscopic Colitis
Stomach Ulcers
Ulcerative Colitis
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
If it seems like most of these were found on a list somewhere, you are correct, but I read up on every condition.
I invite anyone to use this post to discuss their own GI issues, and to add ones I have missed. Let’s get people talking about this! And let’s take stomach aches seriously. Many people go undiagnosed for a long time because of how abdominal pain and symptoms are brushed off. It’s important to listen to what you’re body is telling you, and to seek out help as soon as you can if it’s telling you it’s not feeling good. And going to a GI specialist can feel weird because who even wants to discuss excrement issues and vomiting? But come on, let’s do it. It’s okay to not feel well with your GI tract, and you’re not gross for it.
(A video I wanted to add to this post, but thought it would ruin the tone.)

Fuck. Doctor had me do a stool test because of family of polyps and Crohn’s disease. Just got a call that there is blood in my stool. So now I have to have a colonoscopy and start seeing a gastroenterologist. I don’t know if I’m more anxious about the blood in my stool or more pissed that I have to start seeing yet another specialist. Either way, Merry Christmas to me.

Something I see online that's frustrating to me is you'll get people telling the vegan activists who promote veganism as a universal ideal that there are disabled people who can't have a vegan diet, but then a lot of the people who point this out don't seem to know what conditions actually cause that. And then you end up having arguments about that so I want to actually point out a few examples
I think the number one example where there's no way to safely, healthfully avoid having to consume animal products is haemodialysis for kidney failure. People on dialysis need more protein than other people because they lose protein and blood cells during the dialysis process, and they are required to have a low potassium diet because their kidneys can't filter potassium. This means legumes and soy aren't viable alternatives. [x] "Renal dietitians encourage most people on haemodialysis to eat high-quality protein because it produces less waste for removal during dialysis. High-quality protein comes from meat, poultry, fish, and eggs." [x] If you can't meet your protein needs with these foods for whatever reason, you'll be prescribed whey protein powder, which is made from dairy. [x]
Ketogenic diets are also high in animal proteins. They're innately low carb and high in fat, which means legumes and other meat alternatives aren't a great fit. "The ketogenic diet can boost insulin sensitivity and cause fat loss, leading to significant health benefits for people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes." [x] PCOS, a common condition effecting about 10% of people who menstruate, is also often treated with a low carb, high protein diet because it involves insulin resistance. [x]
Ketogenic diets may also be recommended to treat seizures in epilepsy. [x] It is most frequently used for focal seizures in children, infantile spasms, Rett syndrome, tuberous sclerosis complex, Dravet syndrome, Doose syndrome, and GLUT-1 deficiency. In these conditions, ketogenic diets can reduce or even eliminate seizures.
People with food allergies can find it difficult to afford safe and healthy food in general. [x] The inability to rely on cheap, plant-based proteins like canned beans or dried lentils can be a general hardship, especially when disabilities themselves can limit job opportunities or the capacity to work.
Intestinal disorders are another factor that can make vegan diets difficult. Foods high in insoluble fibre, like beans and other legumes, as well as nuts and seeds, can cause Crohn's flare ups in some people. [x] Seeds, nuts, and legumes can also be trigger foods for people with ulcerative colitis. [x] IBD flare ups are not like a run-of-the-mill case of intestinal discomfort. They can land people in the hospital and require major surgery. [x]
For allergies, the main factor that can make a vegan diet difficult isn't allergy to specific vegetables, but to specific plant proteins. Someone who is allergic to soy, peanuts, or other legumes will have more limited options for meeting their daily protein requirements on a vegan diet. People with allergies to a broad spectrum of legumes may not have any reasonable substitution options. Substitutions can also increase the price point and make a vegan diet too expensive for people in poverty who also have allergies. Poor people with food allergies may find it difficult in general to afford a safe and healthy diet. [x]
For some people, including some disabled people, a vegan diet may in fact be ideal. Vegan diets can certainly be part of a healthy diet when trying to reduce bad cholesterol [x], treat high blood pressure [x], or treat earlier stages of kidney disease. [x] And while insulin resistance may be best treated with a ketogenic diet in some people, others do seem to benefit from a plant-based diet instead. [x] A person's diabetes specialist and trained dietitians can help them figure out which is best for them, potentially based on other factors like whether or not they have high blood pressure or bad cholesterol, or whether their diabetes risks are linked to PCOS or other known metabolic conditions.
Achieving sustainable food production and equal access to a safe, nutritious, well-balanced diet is fundamental to us all. But there's simply no one-size-fits-all ideal human diet, and that's something everyone needs to take into account.

I know this is a silly Chris Evans fan Tumblr blog, but bless you ladies for taking a sec to rant about healthcare. My family and I have been dealing with some serious health conditions that have but us in extreme debt. It’s affected our jobs (but that’s a whole other conversation), leading to loss of income, but we have all these added medical bills we can’t pay. The number one reason for bankruptcy in this country is medical debt. The world doesn’t stop when you get hit with cancer or AIDS or ALS or MS or Crohn's or any other unexpected illness. And unlike so many politicians, celebrities, or other people in a place of privilege… we can’t afford to get into a specialist for 6 months for a lot of our appointments. And they give you pills that don’t work that you can’t afford where the side effects are just as bad as the disease and then you’re just waiting, until you end up in the ER, which is another freaking bill. It’s AWFUL. And your boss is wondering why you’re missing work, and you feel like a burden to your friends. I could go on and on. But if you speak up about this publicly and are an influencer, you’re a hero and some nonsense. While others just want to not end up dead or on the streets. Not blaming those of privilege, just the systems in place. Now I’LL get off my soapbox… 😓
I completely understand your frustrations. I wish I could do or say something to make it better for you, but I’m along with you in the trenches and it’s an awful spot to be in. It’s like if you aren’t crawling with wealth, you don’t deserve quality healthcare and that’s so unfair. Cancer doesn’t just skip over someone because they’re “poor” and coverage plus affordable healthcare options shouldn’t do that either, yet it’s the reality so many people face. It honestly frustrates me to no end. There was once upon a time in my life just a few years ago where I seriously considered running for office in my state because I’m just so tired of these career politicians who are easily bought off by corporations that prevent us all from getting what we need out of life whether it’s healthcare, affordable housing, jobs that pay livable wages, properly funding things like education and childcare, ensuring equal rights for PoC, women, and the LGBT+ community and more. There’s just so much in this country that’s ass backwards and these out of touch politicians don’t care about helping the people they’re elected to represent anymore and I’m over it 🦎

I got a celiac diagnosis on Thursday after having unresolved GI issues for my entire life that pediatric specialists just labeled as “overweight.” The pediatric specialists (at UCLA nonetheless) told me I was anemic and then didn’t run any further diagnostics. And now, 20-some odd years later, I have confirmation with my celiac gene and extreme response to gluten!
My current doctor said it’s also still possible I go on to develop (or have already developed) Crohn’s Disease because of the damage that gluten has done to my gut! Wow! Fun!
Also my on/off lifelong butt and thigh rash is likely dermatitis herpetiformis from my autoimmune response to gluten. Which makes a lot of sense as it tended to clear up when I periodically went gluten free. Funny how that works.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I have more information, but fuuuuuuck I was not really prepared for a celiac diagnosis. And because I’m so sensitive, my husband and I have to replace basically everything in our kitchen to avoid any cross contamination. I’m talking new pots & pans, silverware, knives, bakeware, Tupperware containers, baking sheets, glassware, cutting boards, and utensils—everything that’s scratched and can trap gluten, which is like 90% of our kitchenware. We can’t afford this shit so we’re going to have to put it on my credit cards.
If anyone is able to help out at all with the cost of making our kitchen celiac friendly and totally gluten free, my Venmo is linked at the bottom. I also have ko-fi and buymeacoffee but I haven’t started using them yet.
