'Deadwood' – TV's greatest western at 20 on Max
David Milch reinvents the TV western in Deadwood (2004-2006), brilliant, unpredictable, utterly original take on the frontier drama.
Walter Hill won an Emmy and a DGA award for his superior direction of the pilot episode, which indelibly establishes the muddy, grubby, dusty frontier atmosphere of the undeveloped west pushed to the extreme in the town of Deadwood, a lawless gold rush town…

Halloween II (2009)
In today's review, I find that angels and vengeance can be creatively freeing. As I attempt a #positive review of 2009s Halloween II #ScoutTaylor-Compton

When you inherit an idea, there is a delicate and deliberate balancing act to ensure that the core ideas remain, while your creativity can also flourish. The demands from the former can do a lot to jeopardise the latter, and a lot of brilliant creatives have been known to bulk from the pressure. In 2009, Rob Zombie got to finish off the monster he created, with whatever story, or ideas he wished,…

Fellow horror nerds,
I’m watching Abattoir (2016). Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. Starring Joe Anderson, Jessica Lowndes, Dayton Callie, and Lin Shaye.
I’d never heard of this film and am glad I’ve found it. I’m impressed. Was iffy with the beginning but it’s actually good. Old school detective noir kinda style of a supernatural horror story.
Just past halfway through right now but I’d recommend it. From one horror addict to another.

Dayton Callie—who met Milch in “a drug-type of situation” sometime before Hill Street and doesn't recall the details because “they're a bit hazy, you understand”—said that sometimes his friend's generosity could be awkward, even inappropriate:
I came over to his office, right? I gave him a script I wrote called Pretty Boy, and he really liked it. He knew I wasn't doing the best financially, and after half an hour I say 'I'm gonna split," and he goes into his pocket and pulls out $5,000 and sticks it in my hand. I say, "What the fuck are you doing?" He says, "Here, take this." I say, "I'm not taking fucking that." "Nah, take it! Take it!" and I say "No, fuck no!" But he forces it, and we're fighting over five thousand fucking dollars, you know? So he would do shit like that. I said, "I didn't come here for fucking money, I came here to talk with you about writing."
