I hate Annabeth's writing when it comes to Percy as much as the next self-respecting abuse survivor and woc but you cannot convince me that people hating her for being mean and a pick me yet stanning Luke dosen't come from misogyny.Mans was out there being in his 20s trying to seduce girls and succeded in one of his attemps which got said girl killed via fucking acid burns and being all 'To be fair,you have to have a very high iq to understand Kronos' to a bunch of kids to get them to be in his child army and leave the camp that was made to protect them-and oh,how could i forget that he tried to force them out of by poisoning Thalia's tree.Y'know,the girl who saved his ass and is the reason he made it to CHB?But ig a teenage girl not knowing how to deal with the consequences of her trauma because everyone around her just enabled her lashing out and having internalized misogyny is worse than an adult serial abuser.Maybe if y'all stanned the superior blonde pjo boy(Jason)and let Percy have good taste in men,you wouldn't be like this

To elaborate on the Annabeth part of my last post:Annabeth for the most part is not allowed to be her own character rather than just Percy's girlfriend.Her anger issues get reduced to her being his cutesy tsundere love interest rather than letting her get help for them for herself,her need to prove that she's smart by calling Percy stupid because he's the person she's most around is treated as just teasing rather than genuine problem she should work on because she's adding on to his internalized ableism(and also like.people are allowed to not be called stupid even if they're neurotypical and mentally stable???This shouldn't be that hard to get????????),her need to be a strong demigod which leads to her being an asshole to and violent towards Percy and harrasing Rachel (partially) because she's a mortal never gets called out,she's never allowed to grow because Percy 'needs'(Rick's words,not mine)her to be like that.Annabeth's best traits-her loving and healthy friendships with Piper and Reyna,her intelligence and her being a realistic depiction of someone who got neglected as a kid and is rightfully angry about it yet still wants their parents to love them-are completely separate from Percy and that says a whole lot.I'm saying this as someone who has her as their least favorite Riordanverse girl:Annabeth Chase deserves better

My favourite friendship that has never been acknowledged.

Annabeth and Leo

You can't tell me they haven't found themselves in the same room on the Argo ll, it's past midnight and the coffee is already brewing.

There's a silent agreement to not bother the other, they slurp coffee and work on whatever project they have in silence. But even than, Annabeth watches him occasionally from the corner of her eyes.

Until one day, Leo throws whatever project he has on the floor and starts swearing loudly in Spanish. It goes on for a full minute before he sighs and notices Annabeth staring. "Sorry, just... It doesn't work, just a stupid idea I had."

Annabeth raises an eyebrow, kneeling down to examine the project "what was it meant to be?" Leo sighs heavily "since we're attempting to get away from the Romans and apparently for years the mist has kept Romans and Greek apart, I was attempting to see if it could be harnessed into a concentrated spot... So in theory it could hide us from them." He explained before glaring at said contraption "load of rubbish I guess."

Annabeth frowned, not used to hearing Leo so...disheartened and angry. A part of her wondered if it was because of the tiredness and coffee. She examined the contraption and blinked “Leo...this is amazing” she breathed. Mechanics weren’t her forte but the gears were already turning in her mind “what if...what if you changed this bit and..” She went on, Leo blinked and began to scribble things down “you might be onto something, Chase.”

Annabeth’s project is forgotten about as they work for hours, tossing ideas and scribbling so many notes. They both pass out at 7am surrounded by countless notes an empty coffee machine.

It’s the start of a beautiful friendship

They spend more nights together, and in that time they become closer. Annabeth starts to see glimpses of the real Leo, not the joking mask he puts on all the the time. And Leo realises that Annabeth is more than an intimidating blonde.

They complement each other, Leo is quick to defend Annabeth and gently make sure she doesn’t get in over her head or big headed without insulting her. And Annabeth is always their to remind Leo that he is smart, that he is worthy.

Leo teaches Annabeth Spanish and the two get into heated debates over really random subjects at 3am (since there’s no internet the others just mention a random topic and watch Leo and Annabeth debate it for hours, it’s peak entertainment. The longest rant went on for 2 days straight and it was on at what does graverobbing become archaeology)

When Annabeth falls into Tartarus, Leo spends all his time reworking the Argo II, to ensure they can get her back. He stays up all night alone crying, blaming herself and when she returns the two are inseparable. He’s the only one other than Percy who can get her to sleep and in some cases the only one who can make her smile.

It's rough for them at first.

They're both leaders and its werid for them not to be in charge but by the God's it is a huge relief. And they slowly start to get to know each other, not as great heroes but as each other.

And they compliment each other. Percy as the mischievous, punk kid in the back of the class with a trouble making streak a mile wide and Jason as the golden boy.

(throwing in my Jason was raised by wolves and acts like it headcannon cos this is my house and I make the rules)

But as Percy gets to know him, he learns that's not the case at all. He notices Jason trying not to growl at people, the way he looks so uncomfortable in his own cabin and how he glares at his shoes. How his own camp seem reluctant to follow him at times.

And just how much Jason can struggle with being the golden child of Jupiter.

And while he didn't spent that long in the Wolf House... Percy puts two and two together. And to Jason's relief he accepts him. Let's Jason curl up at the foot of his bed with a thin blanket.

Both of them understanding each other in ways most can't, having responsibility and greatness thrust upon them.

Percy let's Jason relax, let's him have fun and remember what it means to be a kid. They watch recorded movies, Harry Potter and Star wars and quote them during battle.

It's as awesome and dorky as it sounds.

Jason let's Percy know he's valid, that he's not alone and stops him from drowning in his own guilt and fear. They spend nights talking about what ifs and while Jason doesn't always know what to say he's a great listener.

Percy tells Jason about Thalia, and smiles at just how in awe Jason is at his big sister. He tells him e ergthing he knows and while it's not alot, Jason's never been happier.

They bond over broken families, Percy hearing all about Beryl Grace and having to be physically restrained from going to hunt her ghost down. He makes sure every promise made to Jason is kept. And if there's a massive storm and lightning that hits a certain museum...after hearing about Gabe...Well Percy is smiling at the coincidence.

They go to Sally's who adopts Jason on the spot and it becomes his home away from home. He is so embarrassed when he accidentally rips up an old slipper and through his laughter Percy calms him down.

Puppy mode Jason results in a loads of cuddles and protective big brother Percy. (and so many pictures from both him and Sally of Jason being adorable for the scrapbook)

Percy ruffles Jason's hair everytime he does something awesome. It is very frequent because no one praises Jason Alexander Grace and that's a crime.

And anytime the other is feeling overwhelmed they step in. No ones allowed to insult Percy's intelligence after Jason sees just how much it effects him. And Jason will never let that slide or let him forget how great he is.

Someone calls Jason a less impressive Percy and Percy wax poetry's on how great Jason is to both camps and verbally beats up the ass hole.

They become a fearsome duo, on the battlefield it's like watching the sky and sea become one. It's beautiful and terryfying. But it's not just in a fight, they quote movies (there favourite is Tangled) at random points in the day doesn't matter which one it always has a retort.

They are undefeated in super smash bros.

Jason doesn't die because Percy threatens Zeus himself to bring him back and here it is:

When Percy falls, Jason becomes a wreck. He tries to keep everyone safe and is often found passed out crying in Percy's bed. And when Percy returns they sit for hours holding each other, they can't speak they just sit in silence and hold each other and remember that it's all real.

Jason ensures Percy eats and is the only one who can get through to him when he's hallucinating. He stops Percy from pushing others away and he helps him heal. And Percy ruffles his hair, it brings back memories of a simpler time and let's Jason know he's is doing alright.

They are the only ones unafraid by and the only ones that understand what and how to deal with the other going dark. That one moment of breaking down doesn't make them weak and they seek each other out after.

There's an annual joint camp celebration and...

"Ladies, Gentleman, all valid identies can I have your attention please?" Says Percy "I want to thank everyone for their efforts in the war, we kicked mother earth's ass and I couldn't be more proud... But there is someone I want to thank personally."

Percy turns to Jason and holds his hand "Jason, Alexander Grace. You are badass, awesome and the single best cuddler I have ever met. You held the fort while I was gone and stopped e erhthing from exploding. You've been by my side and I'm ever so thankful...sooo would you do me the honour..."

Percy gets on one knee, holding up a box with a blueberry ring pop "of being my bro"

Jason smiles, tears rolling down his cheeks "I would love to be your bro"

@aureateargentum You asked for more Annabeth and Leo friendship and I shall deliver.

Annabeth telling Leo about how she wound up at Camp, smiling sadly at the mention of her step mother and is surprised when Leo taps in morse code 'don't be sad, some people can't understand greatness even if it judo flips them.'

And being... Well Annabeth she prods into Leo's life and he trusts her enough to tell her about the Wilderness school... That's all he can tell her but she respects him. That is until he wakes up sobbing and enters their shared work room because he's tired and scared and seeks her out for comfort. (Which is something is mirrored with her after Tartarus, not wanting to wake Percy and Leo is always their with some blue prints to talk or distract.)

Which both breaks and warms Annabeth's heart. She holds him, asks what happened and he tells her about his Mother... About the fire, aunt Rosa... Everything. And when he's done he braces himself because of course she's going to leave.

Everyone else does.

But Annabeth Eliza Chase is not most people. "Honestly Leo, you're smarter than that" she chides, because she will never leave him. (He cries when she falls into the pit... Because she promised and when she returns its the first thing she says. She's exhausted yet she limps over and hugs him "I promised")

They talk about running away, living on the streets and fending for themselves and finding families. Leo shrugs on that last one "I mean I love my siblings don't get me wrong but the only real family... Well it's kinda just you."

Annabeth is the Head of the Leo Valdez appreciation squad. She's his uptight yet cool and protective older sister and Leo is her annoying yet amazing if u hurt him I will kill you younger brother.

They love debating, and anything they do can become so competitive in an instant. "Scared Chase?" "You wish Valdez"

Also as if Annabeth doesn't have enough reasons to hate Hera. (She MADE YOU DO WHAT?! Annabeth seeths and threatens for days and Leo's never been more touched.)

They set up his mist machine and create new and terryfying weapons and machines all on the power of late night coffee.

They make sure the other gets enough sleep and food (this role becomes Leo's after Tartarus, he sits by her and they eat together talking about everything and nothing)

Leo introduces her to video games and Mario party soon becomes banned on the Argo ll after the incident. Annabeth is sometimes found making death threats to Wario.

Leo helps ground her, when she's overwhelmed or when she's getting in her own head which is pretty often with the Athenian Parthanos mission. He sits by her side sometimes silently but more often than not her manages to take her aside away from it.

They work on upgrades and repairs together, if Annabeth doesn't understand it Leo is to explain and show her so she can help. She will not have him work himself to death.

"Give him a break! He's been up all night fixing this, let him sleep and shower. I can do it."

"But he's..."

Fire burns in Annabeth's eyes, rivalling Leo's. Her whole stance becomes tense and in one deathly whisper she says "he's not just a repair boy, get it through your thick skull or you won't have Gaia to worry about." She than promptly turns to Leo after he's all cleaned up and tucks him in bed, threathing that if she sees him up before 3pm she'll ensure he stays rested by force.

He's never been more touched in his life.
