Meet Me At Henman Hill (Leah Williamson x reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: I know I late posting this but hey better late than never right? I really enjoyed writing this one so I hope you like it too.
Leah was scrolling through her phone as she worked through her second rehab appointment of the day. Her attention was fully on the screen in front of her as the physio applied pressure to her slowly but surely healing ACL when she was handed an envelope. She tossed it aside assuming that it was something from the club but then she saw the Wimbledon stamp in the top left corner.
Miss Williamson,
You have been invited to sit in the royal box at this years ladies final as a guest of Y/N Y/L/N. Please see inside four tickets and details of what you can expect from the day.
We look forward to seeing you at Wimbledon.
She couldn’t believe you kept your word. After winning the euros Leah literally bumped into you in the hallways at Wembley. You told her congratulations and said seen as though she and England  won you would invite her to see you win Wimbledon next year. That day she understood what the movies talked about when they say you feel a spark when you meet someone special. It was a feeling that Leah yearned to feel again. Little did she know you felt the same thing.
Leah truly did think you were joking and given that you haven’t seen or spoken to each other since then she certainly didn’t expect to be given tickets never mind be in the royal box.
“What’s this?” Beth snatched the envelope out of Leah’s hand and then proceeded to read to note out loud “so who are you taking?”
“Beth would you like to come with me?” Leah asked even though the answer is obvious.
“Me? Oh I’ll have to check my— yeah I’m free” Beth jokingly checks her phone’s calendar.
“Viv?” Leah asks the Dutch forward.
“I would love too”
Leah then texts Kim to see if she would like to the join the three of them to which she happily accepts.
A few days later on Saturday 15th July, Leah along with her team mates find themselves walking the grounds of Wimbledon. She could feel the history that the grounds held. Knowing this was the final filled her with excitement but she was going to see you play live which makes the feeling double. She had watched every match you had played in the last 2 weeks.
When she took her seat in the royal box she couldn’t help but feel a little bit out of place. Even after the year she has had she still feels like that little girl from Milton Keynes. The front row sat the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte with Billie Jean King sitting behind them. She knew from your interviews how much of an inspiration the Tennis legend was.
The crowd erupted when you enter the court along side Iga Swiatek. The latter currently held the number one spot with you number two. Not only was the championship on the line but the world number one ranking was too. She could have sworn that you looked up at her as you warm up but she tosses the thought aside and tells herself that you were looking at your idol.
The first set couldn’t have gone worse for you as you lose the set 6-1. It seemed nothing you did was working and you couldn’t help but feel like you were failing everyone in the area. You had your team, you idol and then there was Leah, the woman you had a huge crush on, in the crowd. What she must be thinking as you throw the game away.
You don’t let it get to you though as you come out fighting at the beginning of the second set. You remember why you are in the final in the first place; to win. You give it everything you have and it pays off because you win the set 6-3.
The final would go to a deciding set, one which you would go onto win but that didn’t mean Leah wasn’t stressed out from the first serve to the final point. She spent the entire set leant forwards, elbows resting on her knees and biting her finger nails. Her eyes well up with tears as she watches you fall to your knees when you score the match winning point.
You were in a state of shock for a least a minute. You had won Wimbledon. It had been a dream since you first watched the tournament as a child and now you had done it. The team that had been by your side on this journey were the first people you wanted to celebrate with so you run up to them as soon as you could. Then once back on the court you looked up at Billie and bowed your head to her and that is when you see the arsenal girls but Leah stood out to you. You send her a quick wink before being whisked away to collect the Venus Rosewater Dish and take photos with whoever you were told to.
Leah was just about to leave the box when a Wimbledon official made their way over to her.
“Are you Miss Williamson?”
“I am” Leah shares a look with her friends before answering.
“You have been invited to celebrate Y/N Y/L/N’s win at The Polo Bar here at Wimbledon”
The official goes on to explain where they will find the bar and explain that they can get food and complimentary drinks there.
“Let me get this straight. First she invites you to watch her play and now she wants you to celebrate the greatest moment of her career with her” Kim says.
“We. She invited all of us” Leah tried to play off the invite. She knows the tickets were addressed to her and then the official came to her but she didn’t want to make a big deal out of this. Perhaps you were just being nice.
The four of them found their way to The Polo Bar which they learned was Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar.  Leah started to believe Kim’s insinuation as there wasn’t many strangers in the bar. There were former and current tennis players, a few celebrities who Leah knew were your friends and then they were some people she didn’t recognise but she put them under the sponsors category.
It is almost two and a half hours after the match ended that you walk through the doors. You had swapped your Nike tennis dress for a pair of trousers, a t-shirt, cardigan and a pair of air force ones that look fresh out of the box, these were all white of course.
“Thank you so much for coming” You approach their table as soon as possible “I hope you enjoyed the match”
“Are you kidding me” Beth is quick to answer “That was incredible. I wasn’t sure if you’d win after losing the first set but you didn’t give up. It was incredible” the blonde repeats herself to make sure you heard her.
“It was tough but in this sport you can never give up especially not that early on in the game. Did you have a good time?” You look down to Leah who was sitting directly in front of where you were standing.
You could have got lost in her eyes.
“I was on the edge of my seat”
“I saw”
That was the confirmation Leah needed. You had indeed been looking at her from the other side of the court. Much to your disliking you were called away by your manager but you knew this would happen if you were to become the first British woman to win Wimbledon in the open area. It seemed that everyone wanted to talk to you.
Still as you shake hands with men in suits and woman who you can tell don’t really care for the interaction, you keep an eye of the English captain. She was having a good time with her friends which is what you wanted yet you cannot help but be jealous because you wanted to spend time with her.
Your friends knew that you had a crush on the blonde so they help you evade the introductions to people who you know you have no interest in keeping in touch with.
Leah, unbeknownst to you, scans the room from time to time in search of you. So imagine her disappointment when you cannot be seen. Part of her knew thought this would happen. You wouldn’t want to celebrate with a room full of strangers, herself included. You were just being nice when you invited her here.
“Are you Leah?”
“I am” she turns around to see Aryna Sabelenka standing beside her. As a tennis fan she feels a little bit starstruck but she also knows that she is one of your closet friends she tries to act cool.
“Y/N wanted me to give you this”
Leah opens a note, this time it was handwritten by who she assumes is you.
Meet me at Henman hill
Butterflies flood her stomach.
“What does it say?” Viv asks.
“She wants me to meet her on the hill”
“What are you still doing here! Go!” Beth is full of encouragement.
Leah leaves The Polo Bar and follows the signs for the infamous hill. As she turns the corner she finds you sitting on a bench waiting for her.
“Do you always communicate through notes?” Leah asks as she takes a seat by your side.
You shift your weight so you can face her with you arms resting behind her.
“No but I couldn’t escape and ask you to come with me so I enlisted some help. Drink?”
A smile tugs at Leah’s lips when she sees the souvenir plastic cup filled with the drink that is famously associated with the tournament.
“Why am I here?” It was a question Leah had asked herself countless times since receiving the invite.
“Because I like you even though I don’t know you”
“You just wanted to have the lionesses here for optics” Leah didn’t believe you.
“If that was true then I wouldn’t have invite you to my celebration and I would have given you general seating tickets but I didn’t. I gave you Royal box seats because everyone knows that winner of the tournament walks passed the exit near the royal box when they go to the balcony yet when I walked by I only saw the royal family”
“That doesn’t sound like a bad thing to me” Leah was oblivious to the point you were trying to make.
“I wanted to see you so they failed in comparison”
Leah chokes on her sip of Pimms.
“But I’m just me. I’m just Leah”
“And I’m just Y/N”
“You just won Wimbledon”
“And you won the euros” you place your cup on the floor so that you can place a strand of hair behind her ear, it was the perfect excuse to get closer to her “Leah, I’m going to be very forward because right now I feel untouchable and I don’t know how long it will last. I think you’re beautiful, you intrigue me and I have been waiting almost a year for this exact moment”
Was it the euphoria of winning or the Pimms in your system that made you feel like you could fly, you couldn’t know for sure but the look in Leah’s eyes let you know she was feeling something similar.
“I have a present for winning today. Close your eyes” Leah was fully committed to what she was about to do.
“I’m not really one for surprises”
“You’ll like this one. Close your eyes”
This time you do as you’re told. You wasn’t sure what to expect but it definitely wasn’t Leah’s soft lips against your own. The kiss was soft, gentle and didn’t last no where near as long as you wanted. When Leah pulls away you lean forward for more but a hand on your chest stops you.
“No, that’s for winning a grand slam” Leah knows she has you in the palm of her hand and she loves it.
“This is my fourth grand slam meaning you owe me three more kisses” you pouted for a few second whilst gauging Leah’s reaction. When a smirk forms you know you have her permission to cash in. You remove Leah’s hand from your chest but keep ahold of it. The kiss is deeper this time and hold more passion than the first one.
“Do you always do this after you win? Kiss a stranger?”
You know Leah is joking but if there is even a slight possible they her question hold truth you feel the need to reassure her.
“You kissed me first but no I don’t”
She could tell by your tone and the way you held eye contact that you was in fact telling the truth.
You kept looking at the clock next to the two large screens. You could only buy 40 minutes before you had to return to the bar and it took Leah a little bit longer to join you than you’d hoped but you think that could have something to do with the messenger of the note. Still, you only had ten minutes left alone with her.
This moment has been planned for the past 24 hours and you still had one last part to carry out.
“I have a surprise for you but it won’t be as good as yours” you led Leah down the hill and to one of the kiosks. As planned the door had been left open and you were able to get your treat from the fridge.
Pimms wasn’t the only thing associated with Wimbledon; strawberries and cream were also a fan favourite.
“For you” you hold out a box containing the sweet treat.
At this point Leah realised this wasn’t some spare of the moment idea, you had this entire thing planned out.
“You knew I’d say yes to meeting you?” Leah asked before taking a bite of her first strawberry. For some reason it was sweeter than any other she had eaten before.
“No. My back up option was to sit on that hill, alone, take in the day and eat two boxes of strawberries and cream but I much prefer this”
“Where are we going?” The blonde asks.
“Back to the bar”
“But it’s that way” Leah could point to the terrace of the bar. You were heading in the opposite direction.
“No, it’s this way”
“Y/N I can see the bar, it’s right there”
“Leah I wouldn’t direct you at the emirates would I?”
“Y/N” Leah persisted, she wanted to know what you were planning next.
“Fine, we are going the long way because as soon as I enter that room I will be whisked away and you will go back to your friends. I want to make this moment last. Consider this way the scenic route”
Within seconds you and Leah are walking in sync, each footstep hitting the pavement at the same time. She hangs on every word you say as you explain the history of the grounds. The passion your voice holds warms her heart. You move on to tell her stories how you used to come here as a child but never went inside the court because you preferred to sit on the hill. Leah learnt that you inviting her to Henman hill held more sentimental meaning that she realised.
When you got closer to the entrance of the bar your pace altered, every step took twice the time. Inside things were hectic and everyone wanted a piece of you but with Leah things were calm and easy. These are the thoughts that run through your mind as you open to door only to find that Leah isn’t behind you.
“I’m not ready to go in yet” her pout is adorable.
“I don’t have a choice. I was given 40 minutes and it’s been” you look down at your watch “41 minutes. We’ve had an extra 60 seconds”
“I want to see you again. Are you free tomorrow?” Leah asks.
“I’m not”
“Oh right, yeah” Leah dips her head and tries to play it off but you don’t buy it.
“I will be here the whole day for media and what not then on the night there is a dinner to celebrate the tournament” you walk towards Leah and use your index finger to make her look you in the eyes “I’m free on Monday. I know a place not to far from here. How about I pick you up at 11?”
“You don’t know where I live. How will you pick me up?”
“I guess I’ll need to give you my number so that you can next me your address” you hand her your phone and she enters her number but before she gives you it back she texts herself so you have your number too.
You both walk down the hallway together and she watches as you save her contact.
Blondie
“How original. Does that mean I get to give you a code name?” Once again Leah stops as she taps her chin methodically before typing. She proudly shows your her phone once she is done.
Ace
“Really?”
“What? It seems fitting. You won the game on one today and I happen to think you’re ace”
She was proud of the name and secretly you loved it too.
The bar is empty when you enter. You look at Leah who shrugs her shoulders; she was just as confused as you were. You are about to ask a waiter where everyone is when you hear voices from the terrace. The only people left are your team, a couple of your friends and the Arsenal girls. They are all sat around a huge table. Your manager is the first person you look at and she simply smiles. She knew how much you wanted to celebrate tonight with those closest to you so after meeting the important people she organised for all media, meet & greets and whatever else to be scheduled for tomorrow.
With your hand on the small of Leah’s back you guide her to a space that happened to be in the middle of her friends and yours. Something that you would later find out wasn’t a coincidence.
The night isn’t wild but it was just what you wanted. You recapped the match that you would remember for the rest of your life, Leah introduced you properly to her friends and to top it off Leah kissed you goodnight before going home.
Who knew it took you winning Wimbledon to ask the pretty girl out.

Silverstone, England, June 30th 2013. “Ah, well done, well done!” I clapped my hands together excitedly seeing Mark embrace his wife, Anne. Afterwards I gave him a quick hug, congratulating him for 2nd place and a spot on the podium. “Such an amazing drive, you should be so proud.” I nodded as the Australian’s grin was undeniable. I’d hoped for first place for Mark, but the myself and the team was overwhelmingly happy with second, especially after Seb’s gearbox failure.
“Thank you, thank you. I appreciate it.” He smiled as I offered him another before he went on to be congratulated by the rest of the team. Not too far away, I noticed Sebastian was finished talking with Christian nearby. His head was hung low and he looked a little awkward. I hated the feeling that churned in my lower stomach, I knew this could pose a threat to his potential championship win, but I was positive without the gearbox failure he would’ve won. I was also positive he would win the next race. It was always more frustrating when something completely out of the drivers control effected the race results.
I slipped over, sliding a hand on his shoulder. “Hi.” I gently smiled, his head perking up and a soft smile appeared. “Hey.”
“You alright?” I tilted my head up to look at him. “Yeah, just frustrated but- these things happen.” My hand slowly slid off his arm.
“I know, it’s so frustrating. You drove so good this whole race though.”
“That’s why it is even more frustrating.” He scratched the back of his neck as I winced, maybe I shouldn’t have rubbed that in. “I know.” I gently spoke as he tilted his head back up from the floor.
“These things happen.” He shook it off, “are you free, right now?”
“Pretty much.” I glanced around, “I don’t think anybody needs me for anything; I just wanted to get a head start on looking at this track at Nürburgring.” Seb’s smile widened.
“Come take a break you smarty pants.” He slapped my arm gently, his disappointment still faint on his voice. “I’ve got somebody I want you to meet.”
“Right now?” I knotted my hands together, toying with them nervously. “Yeah.” Sebastian smiled. “And I wanna get out of here before anybody else asks me about today.” “Okay.” I agreed. “Yeah?” He smiled as I nodded, allowing him to lead me out of the garages. “Who are we meeting?” I then asked, skipping to keep up with his long paces.
“Somebody.” He was grinning ear to ear. Whoever it was must’ve been special. “Somebody? Is that all you’re gonna say, what is it the queen?” “Michael Schumacher.” I stopped dead in my tracks. Eyes widening as an excitement bubbled in my chest. “No!”
“Yeah.” He laughed, “c’mon.”
“I can’t, Sebastian, I’m scared!” I felt my nerves seeping through me. Sebastian had turned around now, laughing out loud as he grabbed at my hands to pull me. “Why?” He giggled. “Because I love Michael Schumacher, I’m nervous.” I planted a hand on my chest. “He’ll love you, come.” He began tugging on my hand as I stumbled forwards, my hands moving onto the back of his shoulders. “No, I’m worried!”
Sebastian turned around with a grin, “do I have to drag you?”
“Yeah.” I teased, not expecting him to fully lift me up over his shoulders. I gasped, grasping onto his shirt as he held the back of my legs, holding my dress down. “Sebastian! No!” I choked out, my hands gripping at anything I could possibly get a hold of. He was laughing mischievously, jogging out through the garage as I bobbed on his back.
“Seb, Seb, Seb! Sebastian!” I cried out, half in horror half in enjoyment as I felt like I was gonna go backwards over his shoulder. “Oh, hallo, Sebastian.” An all too recognisable voice made my eyes widen in complete surprise. “Hallo!” Sebastian greeted, beginning to put me back down on my feet.
“Wer ist dein Freund?” (Who is your friend?).
I spun around, the blood rushing to my face as I pushed my hair back in surprise. Stood there was Michael Schumacher and his wife looking amused at the position I’d just been in. “Hello!” I practically giggled.
“Ah, this is Jenna.” Sebastian put a hand on my upper back, still laughing from my previous panic. “This is Michael and Corinna.” I greeted both of them politely.
“Girlfriend?” Michael grinned back to Sebastian as I spluttered nervously. “No, no, she’s the design engineer for us.”
“Ah, really?! I’ve heard of you before, I’m glad you’re here actually…” What ensued was a conversation about the Nurburgring track and it’s safety, I never thought I’d have such an in depth conversation with Michael Schumacher, I was pretty starstruck. He and his wife were so friendly, although they did like to keep referring to me as Sebastian’s ‘girlfriend’ which got me all red in the face. “I’m glad you met him.” Sebastian spoke when we walked back to where he was supposed to be present at the F1 after party. His arm was slung over my shoulder as I smiled up to him in amazement. “Me too, I’m in shock.” I held my hand to my chest. Seb’s hand slowly crept onto my arm, rubbing at the exposed skin as I bit down onto my shoulder. His touch was warm and his hands were so big, big enough to engulf any part of my body.
“They liked you. I knew you’d get along with Michael anyway, you’re so clever you know everything that he finds so interesting.” He complimenting, playfully pulling me in front of him and squeezing at my shoulders. As he did, I let out a burst of laughter at the ticklish sensation, squeaking as he began laughing, pulling me closer into his front. Oh god, I was a flustered mess, it felt like we were a couple. “What was that?!” He asked in amusement, grinning as he spoke, my hands holding onto his fingers. “I’m ticklish, don’t do that again.” I felt him squeeze once more as I tensed, giggling out until he pulled me flush against his chest, arm wrapped over my chest. My body was against his, every time he took a step forwards, his crotch would inch against my bum and I felt borderline perverted at the fact it was turning me on.
“I’m sorry.” He grinned, squeezing me gently as I held onto his arm. “You’re a wind up.” I slapped his skin lightly. “A what?” He glanced over my shoulder. “A wind up, you know, you torment me on purpose.” I explained, stumbling over my words slightly as he simply smirked in response, his tongue pressed to the inside of his cheek. His lips looked so plump and kissable, our faces were so close, I wanted to kiss him so bad. The months of the close friendship had only made me feelings and attraction grow deeper for him. “Oh, here come the love birds!” Christian Horner’s voice exclaimed as I snapped my attention towards the red headed man, Seb’s arms sliding off me slowly as he left one hand resting just behind my shoulder.
“There you are! We’ve been searching for you!” He spoke to Sebastian. “Ah, sorry we were talking to Michael.” “Talking to Michael, canoodling, whatever you were doing.” Christian teased as I tensed my jaw out of a slight shyness. Sebastian had to hurry on stage after that, offering me a pat on the back as I was left feeling uncomfortably frustrated when the cold rush of air replaced where his hands and body had been. I was turned on by him. I couldn’t deny that, how cheeky he was, how cuddly and close he got to me. I felt my lower core ache and it felt like my mind was on fire, too occupied by the idea of his hands roaming further down my chest to focus on anything else…

TWO WORLDS | MICK SCHUMACHER
“it’s astronomy, we’re two worlds apart”
Tumblr media
not my gif :)
summary: where you and mick are childhood best friends and grew up in racing together, and yet mick made it to formula one with nothing but love and admiration from everyone and you left the sport with nothing but scars
pairing: mick schumacher x ex driver!reader
notes: i’m probably going to make a part 2, loosely based off ‘astronomy’ by conan gray and that one line from ‘daylight’ by david kushner, unedited (sorry)
warnings: a little angsty but it kinda gets better, slight talks about mental health issues and struggles, slight implications of struggles with eating, slight implications of self-destructive behaviours
switzerland always held a special place in your heart. it was your home country after all, having grown up in geneva. and despite having moved to england for university, you still made a point to come back ever so often to visit your family and friends— and most importantly, spend time with your dogs.
and, with christmas just around the corner, it was no surprise that you were back, happy to carry out the christmas traditions you’ve always loved. which was precisely why you were in your childhood bedroom.
sitting on the edge of the bed, you took in the memories and nostalgia which never failed to wash over you every time you stepped into room as you glanced around, each object in your room giving you reminders and memories of the past. each flag and poster on your wall had a specific sentiment attached to it, as did the picture frames and polaroids.
the red ferrari flag that hung on your wall served as the most important reminder of your past woes in racing— it’s iconic prancing horse staring at you almost in mockery for your failure in achieving your dreams whilst the very same people you competed with had, or were at least on their way to achieving.
glancing to your bedside table, you let out a sigh upon seeing the picture frame, picking it up and clearing the dust away. the frame was old, so was the picture inside of it, yet, you still remember it like it all happened yesterday.
“micky!” you exclaimed, glad to see your best friend again, letting out a smile. “how are you? how was italy?”
“it was so fun! i got you a gift as well! i’ll give it to you when you come over later!” he smiled, “i got to visit maranello and the ferrari museum! it was so cool!”
“lucky…” you pouted, “i really want to race for ferrari one day! i’ll get to formula one, race for ferrari and win 10 championships! i’ll beat your dad’s record!”
“not if i do it first,” he let out a laugh, “we’ll both get to formula 1 and we’ll be teammates in ferrari!”
“and we’ll be the best duo on the grid!”
“obviously.”
tears welled up in your eyes as you stared at the picture frame next to your bed, the memories with your ex-best friend coming back to you. the thought of all the plans you had made with each other, from travelling over the world together when you’d grow up to getting to the pinnacle of motorsport and driving next to each other.
both of you had big dreams, for yourselves and for each other, and yet you two had fallen out.
of course you still sent him congratulatory messages whenever he would have a good race and he would still occasionally text you to check up on you, but other than that, there was nothing.
you had went from best friends to almost strangers.
sometimes you find yourself reminiscing about the past and couldn’t help but wonder if he was still the person you remembered him being. and sometimes, you couldn’t help but feel jealous.
you two had gone down the same path— starting your karting journey at the same track, going up to formula 4 at the same time, going to formula 3 together with the same team— and yet he had made it to formula 1 and you were left with nothing but with a mix of memories and a wound that would never stop bleeding.
of course, you had some regrets in leaving the sport, but at the end of the day, you would probably have more regrets in staying in it. it was the fact that you could do it but didn’t and the regret and guilt would haunt you forever. but, at the same time, you were glad that you had stopped.
good memories had been made; the feeling of adrenaline as you battled wheel-to-wheel, the joy being on the top step and the thrill of simply racing would be something you would miss forever.
but the bad had overrode the good.
watching what you ate to make sure you could be as light as you could be just to cut down times for each sector. the constant feeling of never being good enough and expectations for you that were always twice as high as everyone’s. the guilt that would follow you everyday if you didn’t train until you felt like collapsing.
everything you did was for love. everything you did was for victory. everything you did was for excellence. everything you did destroyed yourself inside out.
hearing a knock on the door, your reverie had been broke as you put the picture back in its original place, getting up to open the door. freezing the minute you heard the familiar voices from downstairs, you hesitated for a while before putting your hand on the door knob.
“hi, (y/n)!” the german smiled, “your mum told me to get you for dinner and then we can do some baking!”
it was as if you were kids again the way he had greeted you, and if you had to be honest, your heart ached at the strong possibly your relationship would never return to that.
“don’t tell me you forgot who i was.”
“never, mick,” you couldn’t help but smile as he brought you into a hug. “how could i?”
for that split second, it felt as if you guys were as close as before. unfortunately, your brain was quick to take over your heart as you made your way down.
you hated how your heart would still skip a beat whenever you saw him, you hated how he always made you smile and you hated how you couldn’t help but long for his company.
“hi,” you smiled, taking your seat at the table which was opposite mick’s, taking a look of the food in front of you.
“how have you been, (y/n)? it’s been so long!” corinna smiled, “how’s your engineering degree going?”
“wait, you’re doing an engineering degree?” mick asked, looking to see if anyone was as surprised. “what happened to racing? i thought you were going to elms?”
forcing a smile, you let out a small chuckle, “yeah, i’m doing an engineering degree.”
“oh…okay.”
the dinner table was filled with laughter and chatter, the awkwardness long forgotten as everyone cracked jokes and caught up with one another. your spirits lifted as you talked to gina as you caught each other and talked about horse riding.
that was at least until your dad had asked mick about formula 1.
“…yeah, formula 1’s been going great, i can’t wait to join ferrari next season…”
as much as you tried to sit through the entire conversation as everyone joined in, you simply couldn’t take it anymore as everything came back to you along with all sorts of emotions. averting your eyes to the garden, you were quick to excuse yourself from the dinner table.
sitting outside, away from the sight of anyone, the emotions came like a tidal wave and it wasn’t too long until you found yourself crying silently— out of misery and sadness for your failed dreams with a side of jealousy and anger at yourself.
“(y/n)?”
“go away, mick,” you let out a sigh, recognising his voice.
“what’s wrong? you can tell me,” he comforted, taking a seat next to you.
“you wouldn’t get it.”
“just tell me.”
putting his arm around you, mick pulled you closer to him. “please, just tell me, i hate seeing you like this. i know we haven’t talked in a while, and we’re probably not as close as we were but please tell me.”
letting out a sigh, you wiped your tears. “it’s just…it’s just unfair. god, it’s so stupid.”
it didn’t take a while for mick to pick up on what you were upset about as he quickly put the pieces together, “i’m sorry i didn’t notice what was going on back then. i failed to look out for you. i should’ve realised and been there for you.”
“it wasn’t your responsibility anyways, mick.”
“when you love someone, it’s your responsibility.”

it's always been a special race for me. i won my first world championship here. it was kind of crazy back then 'cause i kinda felt like public enemy #1, obviously i was racing against felipe. but the growth that i've felt here and the reception that i've had here, the amazing support...
but i mean just as a kid, growing up at home being a fan of football, for example. always loved the brazilian colors. me and my brother would play fifa and he'd always take england and i'd always take brazil. and then there was ayrton senna, as charles mentioned, just such a big here for so many of us. when you come out here, you really feel his presence.
and it's just such a beautiful culture. and the track is iconic. they don't build circuits like this anymore. so, it's a race that i think all the drivers really love. it's fun to drive a single lap but the races are very strong here. you got that long straight which you can overtake and follow through turn 1, 2 & 3 and have a fight down to turn 4 so good overtaking place as well - LH

lewis hamilton during the press conference, brazil - november 2, 2023 (transcription under the cut)
Interviewer: "Lewis, coming to you. So just how special is this Brazilian Grand Prix weekend for you? You're an honorary citizen, you have a great record here at Interlagos, Senna, of course, was a hero. In fact, loved the outfit that you came to the track in today. Just tell us a little bit about what this race means to you." Lewis: "Yeah, it's always been a special race for me. I won my first world championship here. It was kind of crazy back then, 'cause I kind of felt like pbulic enemy number one; obviously I was racing against Felipe. But the growth that I've felt here and the reception that I've had here, the amazing support… But just as a kid, growing up at home, being a fan of football, for example, always loved the Brazilian colors. and me and my brother would play FIFA, for example, and he'd always take England, so I'd always take Brazil. And then it was Ayrton Senna, as Charles mentioned, just such a big hero for so many of us, and when you come out here you really feel his presence, and it's just such a beautiful culture. And the track is iconic. They don't build circuits like this anymore, so it's a race that I think all the drivers really love. It's a race that it's fun to drive a single lap, but the races are very strong here. You've got that long straight which you can overtake and follow through turn one, two, and three, and then have a fight down to turn four, so good overtaking place, as well." Interviewer: "And given your podium last weekend, given the pace of the car here with the one-two last year, what are your expectations for this weekend?" Lewis: "I don't really know. I think expect the Red Bull to be very fast, [laughs] as always-seems to work pretty much everywhere except for Singapore-and we expect the Ferraris to be quick. I hope that our car works well here like it did in, for example, Austin, but you could just never predict what… It could be bad, it could be good, so we're just trying to prepare the best way we can." Interviewer: "And how do you see the fight in the constructor's championship between Mercedes and Ferrari? You've got the advantage by 22 points at the moment." Lewis: "Yeah. It's a really fun, enjoyable battle. These guys did a great job in qualifying the last race, but fortunately we were able to leapfrog them, but I think it's gonna be close in these last three races, so it's gonna just take all hands on deck to stop these guys." Interviewer: "Alright, Lewis, best of luck. Thank you very much."

Do you write for Chloe kelly
Also Lauren hemp need more fics of them and loved the deyna one definitely need more fics of her
Hi Anon!
I have written a little something for Chloe Kelly, let me know if you like it and I can maybe write a part 2. I will get started on a Lauren Hemp one too
The Crossover We Needed
Women’s sport in England had been gaining traction and with both rugby and football becoming more and more popular the top players had become a perfect marketing option. Ridley was the Captain and the scrum half of the England rugby 7’s team, she had been asked to feature in an interview with one of the Lionesses. Chloe Kelly was incredibly excited to be the face of the Lionesses for this interview, she had seen the England 7’s team take home their very own European Championship, she was in the stands cheering them on with her family. But she couldn’t make it obvious to the girl that she was going to meet.
Chloe showed up in her Lionesses training gear, she looked over to see a 5ft10in brunette with dimples and green eyes standing there wearing a red tank top showing off her biceps and blue running shorts that exposed her toned legs. Chloe’s eyes raked over the girl as she walked over, Ridley looked over at Chloe and quickly checked her out, very impressed by the smaller girl’s muscle tone. “Hey I’m Ridley.” The taller girl held out her hand to shake Chloe’s. “Hi, I’m Chloe.” They shook hands, trying to pull away at the socially appropriate time. They stood next to each other as they were given a brief of how the day was going to go. Firstly they would do an interview together then do skills for each of the sports to see who would win the overall challenge.
They sat across from each other as the producer handed them a stack of questions, Chloe read hers out first. “What football team did you follow as a kid?” Chloe looked up at the other girl’s face. “Um, I go for Manchester United actually.” Ridley let out a laugh and looked at the girl across from her. “Oh so you are a red?” Chloe raised her eyebrow. “Through and through.” Ridley had a small smirk. “Gross.” Chloe pretended to gag, Ridley laughed at her reaction. “Hey, at least I follow football. I was at Wembley when you scored that banger in the Euros, saw the celebration and everything.” Ridley smiled proudly. “Nothing better than someone with some appreciation for the world game.” Chloe smiled softly.
Riley was up next to ask a question. “Do you follow any rugby teams?” Chloe thought for a moment and smirked. “Saracens. They are my local team from when I was growing up. Pretty sure they are top of the ladder in the women’s too.” Ridley rolled her eyes. “We are one point behind with a game in hand. We could be top of the ladder after next weekend.” Ridley replied quickly. “Oh so Gloucester-Hartpury is going to win the league?” Chloe crossed her arms over her chest. “We certainly could. When we do you have to come present the trophy I think while wearing one of our jerseys.” Ridley laughed.
“What is your favourite memory?” Chloe looked at Ridley intently. “Probably winning the European Championship in the Sevens for England. It was the first time I captained the country and being able to lead us to win was phenomenal. You?” Ridley smiled fondly at the memory. “Mine would definitely be the Euros win. Being able to score a goal that won us the whole thing was crazy, the most incredible thing I have ever done.” Chloe smiled wide. “One of the best sporting moments for the country I would say.” Ridley looked at the blonde across from her. “I think your Euros win was just as special, especially scoring two tries.” Chloe said softly. “You watched?” Ridley leant in slightly waiting for the answer. “Yeah, my family loves rugby almost as much as they love football. We all went to watch England completely dominate. Even better that it was a home tournament too.” Chloe relaxed as their conversation continued.
There was some casual flirting during the whole interview with both of the girls promising to catch up again the following week when they had a lunch event for England’s sporting elite. Chloe laughed at Ridley’s jokes and gently touched her arm, Ridley tried to hold back the massive grin and blush that was making its way up her neck to her face. Ridley returned the favour of making the other girl blush when she ran her fingers through her hair making her biceps flex, Chloe’s eyes locked on the muscle straining against the rugby player’s shirt.
Once the interview portion was over they headed out to the field, on their way their conversation continued as did the flirting. Chloe gently bumped into Ridley when the taller girl teased her about the way she took penalties and the time she got hit in the face by Katie McCabe at a throw-in. “Oh my god shut up! I saw you get absolutely destroyed by the New Zealand Captain last year, you seemed too busy looking at some of the other girls.” Chloe laughed and this time it was Ridley’s turn to bump into Chloe. “Hey what can I say? Blondes seem to be my weakness.” She winked at the striker next to her as they got to the challenges.
The first game was a rugby passing drill, there were four targets lined up with four balls across from them, Chloe grabbed one of the balls and threw it to Ridley who caught it easily. “We should make this interesting. Want to make a bet?” Ridley looked at the blonde. “Sure. When I win, you have to give me your training shirt. If you somehow win, I will give you my shirt.” Chloe said confidently the two shook it and they both smirked at one another. Chloe tried to throw the first ball into the target and missed completely, she let out a groan and pouted after she missed the second one. Ridley smiled and handed Chloe another ball. “Just relax, try twisting your shoulders more rather than your hips. Nice and tight core.” Chloe listened closely and did what the girl was saying, she hit the target right in the centre on the last two shots. She jumped into the rugby player’s arms who spun her around cheering. “We might just be able to convert you into a rugby player.” The two laughed together and Chloe smacked Ridley’s arm gently.
When it was Ridley’s turn Chloe just stared as the ball was thrown with minimal effort into the targets. Each movement had been practiced a million times and it definitely looked like it, the muscles flexed in her arms and Chloe was unable to do anything but watch. There was part of her that would have loved to know what else those muscles would be able to do to her, maybe even how they would go lifting her up and throwing her down on a bed. “Four from four, easy as you like.” Ridley’s voice snapped Chloe out of her trance. “Okay, show off. Now its time for football.”
The two walked over to four footballs set up for a crossbar challenge. “Let’s see how you go superstar.” Chloe smirked and stepped back for Ridley. The brunette looked at the crossbar then back at the footballs. “Oh man, haven’t kicked a ball in ages. Promise you won’t laugh.” Chloe nodded and motioned to the balls. “I promise. Now show me how to do it.” Ridley took a deep breath as she lined up for her first kick, it wasn’t the best but she was close to hitting the bar, she groaned and threw her head back setting up for the next ball. Her next two kicks were unsuccessful making the girl frustrated, on her last kick she glanced the crossbar and fist pumped. “Finally!” Ridley cheered and turned to the blonde who jumped on her in celebration. As Ridley put her down Chloe bit her lip as she stepped back. “Sorry just got swept up into it.” The striker said softly. “Don’t be.” Ridley stood back for Chloe’s turn. The striker made it look easy, she hit the ball so sweetly that it was hard for Riley not to stare at the girl in front of her. “Wow.” She said out loud as Chloe hit three of the four balls against the crossbar. “Now that was impressive. I think you win, you got more in rugby than I did in football. You easily win.” Ridley held out her hand which Chloe immediately shook. “Good game.” The two laughed as the video cut.
They walked towards the changerooms to get into more casual clothes for the rest of the day. Ridley had no sooner walked in and her shirt was off exposing her abs and toned back along with her perfect arms. Chloe stared obscenely at the girl in front of her, she forgot to listen as Ridley held out her shirt to Chloe. “A bets a bet.” Chloe took the shirt from the scrum-half and swallowed hard. “Congratulations.” Ridley smirked knowing that the girl was struggling to focus. “Th-thanks.” Chloe finally choked out, Ridley pulled off her shorts and grabbed her jeans, sliding them on right in front of Chloe who was almost drooling. Ridley pulled on her oversized acid washed black shirt and a beanie. “You okay there Chloe?” Ridley walked closer to Chloe who was still standing in the middle of the room. “Yeah. Sorry. Just got distracted.” Chloe looked up at the taller girl. “By me?” Ridley moved a piece of hair from Chloe’s face as their eyes locked. “Maybe.” Chloe said and leant in to kiss Ridley, the rugby player closed the gap as their lips finally touched. Ridley wrapped her arms around Chloe’s waist and lifted her up as they kissed, she leant her against the locker door and deepened the kiss. The build up of tension during the day finally leading up to them getting what they wanted. Their makeout session was cut short by Chloe’s phone ringing, her agent was on the other end wanting to know if she was almost ready to leave, Ridley tried to distract her during the call kissing along the blonde’s neck. Chloe blushed and pushed Ridley away as the call ended. “You are a bad influence.” Chloe gently kissed Ridley and took off her shirt, it was the scrum-half’s turn to stare at Chloe as she got changed. Chloe put on a white crop top with some blue jeans. “I guess I will see you next week?” Chloe looked down, Ridley handed her a phone. “Can I maybe get your number?” Ridley asked somewhat nervously. Chloe smiled wide and put her number in Ridley phone, locking eyes as she handed it back. “I will see you next week.” Chloe kissed her cheek gently as she left.
Over the week the two were texting most of the day, sending some pictures of what they were up to during the day. The day of the sport lunch Ridley took her time getting ready, putting on a navy blue suit with no shirt underneath relying on the jacket to stay where it was so she didn’t flash everyone around. Ridley walked into the large function room, looking around for anyone familiar. Chloe spotted the rugby player immediately, she walked over and touched her lower back. “Hi.” She said softly, making Ridley turn around. “Holy shit.” Ridley blurted out as she saw Chloe in a low cut red dress that finished above her knee, Ridley’s eyes stopped right at the striker’s chest. “Eyes are up here Ridley.” Chloe stepped closer and lifted Ridley’s chin so they were looking in each other’s eyes. “You look phenomenal yourself.” Chloe tugged gently at Ridley’s suit jacket covering what Chloe wanted to see. “Thank you gorgeous.” Ridley kissed Chloe’s cheek and put her hand on her lower back. “Are we sitting together?” Ridley asked as she looked around. “No sorry, I am on the football table and I think you are with rugby. Come see me after?” Chloe grabbed Ridley’s hand, getting her focus back. “Yeah I will come get you.” Ridley kissed Chloe’s hand as they both walked over to their tables.
During the lunch, Ridley kept looking over at Chloe, causing some of her teammates to give her some light teasing as she stared at the blonde. Chloe received the same treatment as she glanced over at the brunette. “Who is that?” Georgia asked, motioning to Ridley. “That is Ridley, she is the captain of the England rugby team.” Chloe couldn’t help but blush as she mentioned the girl. “Well, she is certainly interested in you Chloe. She’s very pretty.” Georgia smirked, Chloe snapped at Georgia. “Yeah I know she is. Stop looking over at her.” Chloe turned back to look over at Ridley, who was looking back at her slightly concerned. Chloe gave a small smile and walked towards the bathroom, Ridley rushed to follow behind her. As soon as they were in the bathroom Ridley grabbed Chloe’s hand. “Hey you okay?” Chloe nodded and kept looking down. “Georgia said you were pretty and I just kind of cracked it.” Ridley blushed and put her hands on Chloe’s hips. “I am only looking at you.” Ridley leant in and kissed Chloe gently, leading her against the sink, the blonde wrapped her arms around Ridley’s neck and pulled her as close as possible. “After this, come around to my place its only ten minutes away. We can hang out and I will make you dinner.” Ridley offered softly. “A date?” Chloe asked hopefully. “Yes of course. I wanted to ask you out last week but didn’t want you to think I was going too fast.” Ridley blushed. “What after we made out?” Chloe laughed and Ridley blushed more. “Maybe.” Chloe kissed Ridley again and smiled. “As soon as this thing finishes, I am dragging you out of here.” Chloe smiled looking at the taller girl. “We should go back to our tables before people thing we are having sex in here.” Ridley said softly and they begrudgingly rejoined their tables.

Pernille Harder is back just before the decision hour: 'If we do our job, we win'
It is a soccer-hungry Pernille Harder who is back on the pitch again.
Finally!
A lot of people probably shared that feeling when national team captain Pernille Harder got the last ten minutes on the pitch in Chelsea's Champions League semi-final against FC Barcelona on Saturday afternoon.
It was the very first of its kind since the Danish national team captain, Pernille Harder, suffered an injury to his hamstring during an international match against Switzerland on 11 November last year.
Five months on the sidelines – now replaced by a redemptive comeback in front of a well-attended Stamford Bridge in London .
- It was a great feeling, even though I didn't really touch the ball. Maybe just one time with the head, she says and laughs.
- But it was special because it was at Stamford Bridge and because I got a fantastic welcome from the fans, says Pernille Harder to DR Sporten.
Because it has been a tough period for the star with the 140 international matches on her CV, who for the first time in his career has had to fight through such a long course of injuries.
- It is clear that it is much more fun to be out on the pitch. But when I got injured, I chose to have a positive mindset.
- I gave myself a break from football and everything around it. I made sure to relax mentally.
At the same time, there was also room to put a lot of effort into the physique in terms of strength, because it was now only in the strength room that the Danish star could work up a sweat.
- I can't remember the last time I had four or five months to train hard in the strength room. It has been nice in some way.
And it is also great for Pernille Harder that the hard work has simultaneously borne fruit and given her the opportunity to be able to lace up her boots again.
- It's great to have the feeling that those months have prepared me for my comeback. It's great to be back on the football field.
- I am highly motivated and have got a completely new kind of hunger to play football again, she says.
Perfect timing
So, with football food in his mouth, Harder is back again. At the – let's just call it – just the right time.
Because it is now that the season must be decided. Six games remain in the league, but before then Harder must chase the overall semi-final triumph against FC Barcelona on Thursday in the Champions League. And yes, there is also a cup final against Manchester United at Wembley in May.
- It's going to be big. And we are doing well, and if we do our job, we will win the championship, says Pernille Harder.
So you dream of The Double?
- Yes, of course!
Another highlight awaits
When the season in Chelsea is over, however, there is not much time to rest the bars. Because the World Cup in football awaits in July. Another highlight for Pernille Harder, who with the Danish national team can initially look forward to three group games in Australia against China, Haiti and the European champions from England.
- It's huge. I've never played a World Cup before and it's something I'm really looking forward to.
And the physics must be there, she reassures.
- I am very hopeful . I do what I can to stand as strong as possible for the WC . As I said, the positive thing about having been injured is that you find a new hunger and joy in playing football.
In the first instance, however, the club season must be put to an end. The next task is already on Thursday when the return match against FC Barcelona awaits in the Spanish. And here, Chelsea must try to turn the 0-1 defeat from last Saturday into an overall victory.

The Bugle's been going for sixteen years, as of October 15, 2023. I like that date, because it's only two days after my birthday. I enjoy that around my birthday every year, The Bugle also has a little birthday celebration. And they do. On their very first birthday, in October 2008, they had cake in the studio in England where Andy Zaltzman was and in New York where John Oliver was and they celebrated their project surviving for a year and it was really sweet. And every since then, they do something like that. Last year, they marked the big fifteenth anniversary with a tour of live shows, and a special John and Andy reunion episode that made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes while listening to it on a bus, prompting me to pull my mask up and hat down to hide my reaction, but it wasn't quite enough to avoid getting a few strange looks.
No big tour this year, but Andy Zaltzman did write a special In The Bin section with some nice callbacks, that I transcribed for the Bugle fans on Tumblr who might not be following the current version of the podcast but enjoy references to the original:
Andy Zaltzman: As always, a section of this podcast is going straight in the bin. This week: a special Bugle sixteenth birthday commemorative section. At sixteen now, The Bugle can start voting in some parts of the world, including, crucially, Ecuador, and the Channel Island of Sark. So that’s very exciting, that we can now vote in those parts of the world. Anuvab Pal: It’s time to rig some elections in Ecuador, that’s what I’m thinking. Andy Zaltman: Look, Bugles, if you want an election near you rigged, just email us and we will do what we can. The Bugle can now buy cigarettes, although obviously it wouldn’t want to; if a podcast starts coughing and spluttering it’s not a great listen. It also means that The Bugle is, depending on where you listen to it, now legally allowed to consent to, um, uh, be played at the same time as another podcast, also over the age of sixteen, I think. Sadly, the minimum age for marriage in the UK was recently raised from sixteen to eighteen, so the planned wedding between The Bugle and the 2001-born TV drama series 24 will not be happening yet. Bit of an age gap, but it would have been fascinating to see Jack Bauer’s comedic take on the week’s global news, and to see what storylines they came up with for The Bugle. Could the Los Angeles counter-terrorist unit stop The Bugle’s Machiavellian scheme to establish a professional four-day cricket championship in California before it was too late? I, personally, would have watched that repeatedly. Also, The Bugle can, at the age of sixteen, and this is not a moment too soon, now go and get a proper job. It can also change its name, legally, and from what I’ve heard, from sources close to The Bugle, it is considering a change of name, at this point, at age sixteen. Amongst the possibilities: The Barak Obama Interview Show – apparently there are certain legal issues with that; Zaltor the Merciless Dispenses Wise Judgement to His Adoring Yet Fearful Subjects – I can see that working; Bible Studies with Mildred and Herbit – bit of a mix-up; Andy Zaltzman’s Fashion, Style, and Romance Tipscast – let me live my dream; Tonight Last Week – I’m not sure that’ll work; and Two Celebrities Phone it in and Take the Cash – I mean you have to adapt to the changing podcast market. Or, uh, Hot Rod and Dragster Ride Again. All those are possibilities, but that section is in the bin.
I think I said "Aww..." out loud about three times during that part. The little references! To Hot Rod and Dragster, that time in 2011 when Chris Skinner made a brief joke about those being fun nicknames for Andy Zaltzman and John Oliver and it was meant to be immediately forgotten, but the fans addressed emails to those names for years. The little reminder of how John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman spent the first few years of The Bugle really into the TV show 24, which sounded especially weird coming from Andy because he never likes anything that isn't sport or the music of Boney M, it's so rare to hear him be a normal person who gets excited about a mainstream thing in popular culture, to the point where he first started referencing 24 I thought he was being ironic, but eventually it became clear that he had actually binged every episode and just wanted to talk about it. And obviously he also threw in a reference to that show Week Last Tonight or whatever. Small references to Bugle history in the 2023 anniversary section.

The love couples in the Swedish national team
CHESTER. Nathalie Björn and Linda Sembrant know that a quarter-final against Italy would involve unusual challenges. In that case, they are up against their partners. - It would be a new situation that we have not experienced before, says Linda Sembrant whose partner Lisa Boattin plays in the Italian national team.
All the partners of swewnt players below
On Sunday night, it was clear that Sweden won its group. Which team from Italy, Iceland and Belgium will face each other in the quarterfinals will be decided on Monday night in a thrilling match in Group D. For several of the Swedish national team players who passed the mixed zone after the 5-0 victory against Portugal, upcoming opposition played less of a role. They enjoy being further in the tournament and have had great support from loved ones in the stands.
- Great fun. It's fun to have family and Philip in the stands, says Stina Blackstenius, whose boyfriend Philip Håman saw the match on site yesterday in the company of Fridolina Rolfö's partner Simon Skott.
- I am very grateful that he is here and supports me and follows me on this journey, says Rolfö.
But for two players, the decision is a bit ambivalent. Linda Sembrant is a club friend and cohabitant with Lisa Boattin, a player at Juventus. Nathalie Björn and club friend, Everton player, Aurora Galli are also a couple since last spring. In addition, the backbone of the Italian national team consists of Juventus players, where Linda Sembrant, Lina Hurtig and Amanda Nildén play.
- I hope that they, my friends, make a good match and for my partner that it will be good. So we have to take it afterwards, says Linda Sembrant. The defender - back after injury against Portugal - has stated before the championship that it would be good not to face Boattin's Italy in the playoffs
- It's better for peace of mind ... I've lived in Italy now for three years and they are nine or ten from Juventus in that team and my partner plays there so it's like special of course, said Sembrant when the question came up before the championship. Nathalie Björn has been on the same track.
- We have talked a bit about it and said that we want to try not to play against each other. It will be different than in the Algarve because now it is really a win or lose so if we play, someone will come home and be very sad, Nathalie Björn has said. After yesterday's advancement, she clearly stated that the situation is as it is. It could be a match against Italy and her Aurora Galli.
- Of course I hope that they go on, but if it is them in a quarter final, it is just a matter of winning or losing, she says.
The couples:
Amanda Ilestedt and Rainer Müller
Rainer Müller is the coach of Wolfsberger in the Austrian league. The couple met during Amanda's time in Germany and when
Sportbladet visited Amanda Ilestedt in Paris, she told about her boyfriend's support.- He supports me and knows what it is like in this special football life, said Amanda who had Rainer in the stands during Sweden's matches in England.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elin Rubensson and Filip Rubensson
If mother Elin plays a football match, her husband Filip Rubensson and the couple's son Frans are often present. Elin Rubensson has made a nice comeback after giving birth and joined the EC squad. Injuries during the spring have made the journey more difficult, but now the form is back.- I have fought for this since I came back from pregnancy. That has been my big goal, said Elin Rubensson after the European Championship place.
Tumblr media
Emma Kullberg and Julia Zigiotti Olme
The football couple who share both life and club affiliation. After BK Häcken, they got a contract in Brighton.- It feels fantastic to share the whole experience, the adventure and to be able to play together gives a different sense of security, said Emma Kullberg when
Sportbladet met the couple before the move.Midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme was on the verge of the European Championship squad but did not get a place. However, she has been in England to support her Emma during the group stage.
Tumblr media
Filippa Angeldahl and Megan Brakes
Megan Brakes and Filippa Angeldahl got engaged earlier this spring. The Manchester City player has also been supported by her love for the stands in Sheffield.- It means an incredible amount. Having that support here on site means that you get extra tagged, says Filippa Angdeldahl.Megan Brakes is a football agent at Neverland Management and was in that role when midfielder Angeldahl signed with Manchester City.

Jess Carter interview: My sister and partner have had cancer – football has been my escape
Exclusive: Jess Carter has helped her sister as well as her partner and Chelsea team-mate through cancer and is raising funds and awareness
Tumblr media
Jess Carter in action during Chelsea's Women's Champions League quarter-final win over Lyon at Stamford Bridge
Jess Carter and Ann-Katrin Berger’s mental strength was clear to see in a dramatic night at Stamford Bridge on Thursday; they held their nerve to score Chelsea’s fifth penalty and save the deciding spot-kick respectively in the win over Lyon. Off the pitch, though, their immense fortitude has been evident for a long time.
Back in 2017, when they were both playing for Birmingham City, Berger was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She recovered and spent four years in remission, before learning that her cancer had returned last summer, during Germany’s charge towards the final of the Women’s European Championship.
Carter, Berger’s partner as well as her team-mate, has been by her side throughout. She knows exactly how much strength the support of loved ones can provide to a cancer patient, and she had to draw on that again when her sister Amelia was diagnosed with breast cancer at the height of the pandemic in 2020.
Tumblr media
Ann-Katrin Berger has tackled cancer with a very German outlook, says her partner, Jess Carter
Covid restrictions meant she could not be alongside her, but the Chelsea defender was determined to show her sister she was not alone. She cut her own hair to try to show Amelia, from afar, that she was with her.
Amelia’s return to full health, coupled with the fact that Berger is doing well – she has continued playing while undergoing treatment and now needs only routine check-ups – means that Carter counts herself as one of the lucky ones. Yet going through these journeys with those closest to her has motivated the three-time Women’s Super League champion to become an official supporter of Marie Curie, which provides end-of-life care and support for cancer patients.
“I’d like to think I’m quite a positive person and so I always believed Amelia was going to be okay and get through it, but it was a horrible moment to not be able to physically be there for her,” 25-year-old Carter says, reflecting on the moment her sister told her she had cancer during lockdown. “That was really difficult. It makes you feel a bit useless, not being able to help at all. It was a really scary period of time but it was much scarier for my sister than it was for me.
“I’m just very lucky that she was able to be so strong through it. It was a really lonely time for her and all we could really do was be there over the phone, as she was obviously a high-risk for Covid as well at that point, which was sad for the whole family. We’re just really thankful that she managed to get through it and then, the first moment we were allowed, we were all there to help her.”
Carter says her sister is now doing “really well” and has since given birth to a baby boy, but such positive turnarounds are of course not the case for every family. In 2021, more than 130,000 people in England died of cancer, and that is why Carter is so passionate about the hospice care provided by the charity sector.
The Great Daffodil Appeal, throughout March, is Marie Curie’s largest fundraising campaign of the year, encouraging people to donate and wear a daffodil, and Carter says: “In the past few years I’ve had family members that have been really sick, and they haven’t passed away, but the idea of knowing the amount of support that is out there for people through Marie Curie is really special.”
Particularly after that experience, for the Carter family, being at Wembley last July as Carter and the rest of the England squad celebrated winning the Euros was extra special. That summer, though, was also when Berger’s cancer returned, and Carter is quick to praise her partner’s mental resilience.
“Ann was like ‘Okay, can I play football? Can I get back to it the next day?’ and her question was ultimately ‘Am I dying?’. They said, ‘No, but it still needs to be dealt with', so Ann was like ‘Okay, what’s next?’. It’s a very factual German way with Ann. It was almost maybe easier for me to deal with because she was so kind of ‘Job done, what’s next?’, and she moves on to the next thing,” Carter says.
“It helped me to be able to handle it as well. The fact she’d had so much good treatment before, and recovered so well from it before, I didn’t doubt that she could do the same again. Her strength made it quite easy for me.
“The treatment she’s received from her doctors has been exceptional, and Chelsea have been great. But thankfully for us, Ann hasn’t had to deal with any more surgery or anything like that for the rest of the season, so she just follows up on her check-ups and continues that way, and hopefully there’ll be no more surgeries going forward.”
Despite that positive news, Carter says football has served to provide her with a bit of an escape at times, adding: “You get to football and you forget about anything that’s gone back home. Most of the time my home life is amazing, so those little periods of time where people are sick and you get to football for that period of time you just totally switch off from it.
“Finding your own escape almost from it is a really good way to be able to handle those emotions or to be able to reset yourself from those things you’re feeling, to then, when you get home, almost be able to be in a fresh place to deal with it again. That was good for me personally.”
Berger and Carter’s crucial roles in Chelsea’s shootout victory over European champions Lyon on Thursday will etch their names into the team’s folklore and – speaking before the tie – Carter had made it clear the team were incredibly determined to bounce back from March’s setback in the League Cup final.
“We were really devastated about the Conti Cup final, it wasn’t a performance like us, and we had to get back together and find our rhythm again and work together as a team to make things right.”
With Chelsea competing for trophies on three fronts, and still in with a chance of a WSL, FA Cup and Champions League treble, Carter’s mind has not yet cast towards this summer’s World Cup, but after playing for her country in all three England games in February’s Arnold Clark Cup success, she appears to have a good chance of being selected.
She is not counting her chickens yet but says: “If I was fortunate enough to go it would be huge. There’s a massive pool of talent that Sarina has got to choose from, so I know I’ve got to put in a lot of work to get there in the first place, but it’d be huge.
“Going to another major tournament is obviously amazing for anybody but going there and trying to get some minutes would be a massive stepping stone in the right direction for my international career.
“What we’ve done as an England team, it’s creating history, and by bringing the country together again during that period of time, it was impressive, really pushing girls football forward in the right direction.”

Advantage Sinner
Wimbledon slowly adapts to zeitgeist as next-gen players are bending the rules.
Jannik Sinner, 21, is a handsome young Italian who is currently ranked eighth in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking (as I‘m writing this). He is known to be one of the best next-generation tennis players that are shaping the sports future after the era of all-time greats Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovovic who has not lost one single game on the Centre Court of the legendary All England Lawn Tennis And Croquet Club for the past ten years.
Now, a lot has changed since 2013 although “The Championships” rule book is lenghty and rigid as ever: Players outfits must be 90% white, including shoe soles. And by white, Wimbledon means white - not off-white or creme or beige or vanilla or any of that. If you play Wimbledon you better look like a 12-year-old altar boy at his first mass.
Players who don’t comply are likely to be fined, like last year for example, when Nick Kyrgios, the Australian tennis bad boy was fined 10,000 USD after wearing a red Nike hat during the trophy ceremony after the final, which he lost … against Novak Djokovic of course. So yeah, rules are rules at Wimbledon.
Nevertheless, Wimbledon organizers have shown some flexibility. In late 2022 the tournament announced that women who are concerned with their period will be allowed to play wearing dark undershorts. Finally, some common sense in the UK, one may think.
But back to Jannik Sinner: The Italian youngster signed with Gucci last year becoming the new ambassador for the Kering brand. Sinner hasn’t been heavily pushing fashion boundaries before, neither on nor off the court. But Gucci, presumably hoping to create a buzz among financially stable tennis-aficionados, really hit the sweet spot with Sinner as he walked out on his first Centre Court match shouldering a leather-trimmed canvas duffel bag covered in Gucci’s GG monogram looking like he’s been doing this for ages.
Rising eyebrows and hushes in the stands. Did Sinner just violate the all-white rule for … a Gucci bag?
No, Sir. Gucci marketeers signed special agreements with the world tennis governing body ITF, the ATP and Wimbledon organizers, ensuring their shiny new ambassador will face no fines but a strategically clever orchestrated buzz on social media within the tennis bubble and maybe beyond.
Breaking the rules — the Italian way. 🤌🏼

Morwenna Ferrier, the Guardian’s fashion and lifestyle editor wrote a piece about how Jannik Sinner and fellow young tennis talents are creating their unique off-court personas through high-value brand partnerships as professional tennis enters the post-Federer-and-Nadal era.
You can read it here.

Harry was one of the youngest Chess Team Captain at Henford’s town school, he was breaking chess records all over the place and even on his way to winning a chess championship for the school! Not that his parents seemed to care or notice his accomplishments. Rosalie tried to be supportive but she didn’t really understand the appeal of chess, she would have preferred he was more like Andrew and gone into studying some kind of musical instrument. George still argued that the chess team was a complete distraction from his family obligations and farm chores, he would have preferred Harry was more like Peter, who spent his free time doing extra chores and taking extra special care of all the animals.
Harry also had a new crush, Jewel Robles, the older sister of his old childhood crush, Sadie. Sadie had unfortunately grown into a vain and malicious young woman and the two of them were no longer friends. Jewel, on the other hand, was more caring and shared his dreams of one day escaping their little New England farm town. She was a year and a grade older than him, and although that had been a problem for Leona, it did not seem to be for Jewel. They would exchange flirty glances at their desks and play footsie at lunch. They walked each other home every day and spent a lot of the time walking home goofing off or taking detours. They often talked about what their futures would look like.
Jewel wanted to be rich, she hated being poor and had a vision of a fine life in the city, maybe Newcrest or even Willowbrook would be better than this town. Harry assured her that one day after he graduated from University he would get a good job that would be able to provide the lifestyle she wanted. He was thinking of becoming a doctor, so medical school would take a while, she would have to wait for him. Jewel didn’t like the idea of waiting, so she promised she would wait as long as she could for him, but told him to hurry up once he graduated.
