I must confess that reluctance to use art supplies is still a thing I have trouble with sometimes. I have some books I made in bookbinding class in college that are still empty after 8 years, and I can't remember how long it's been since I've touched any of my nice watercolour paper.

But I'm trying to be better at putting scribbly crap in my new pretty teal 5 dollar sketchbook, and am succeeding so far! I've just filled a page with scratchy awful dandelions and I'm not going to show them to you!

Most of the stuff I work on at my alterations job is suits, but today I did a prom dress for the daughter of an acquaintance, and everyone else at the prom is going to be soooooo jealous of the 40 cm deep pockets I added.

#sewing #alterations #she had a matching stole that she didn't want and asked if I could use that fabric for pockets #and fortunately the shop has a serger #and the side seams were easy to get at and it's a fairly heavy poly satin so they barely even show! #I put a giant cone of thread in one of them to see if it'd cause any weird puckering and it didn't #actually they're more like 44 cm deep in total and I cut them about 20 cm wide at the bottom

I can give john every windbreaker on earth #mariana gets the jean jacket bc I like to imagine she's a y2k kid #(sherlock I think is only 90s kid in year of birth that man's childhood was skipping class to burn shit in the wood) #(but he canonically sews which I fucking love so much. he has not bought new clothes for almost a decade #if a shirt's disintegrating no it isn't. not on his watch) #a lil sad I cant figure out how to give them hats lol I feel like thats the most victorian thing there is. a stupid hat #I can at any moment give one of them a beanie. but I refuse #there are. like a Hoard of other scribbly sketches I did to get used to drawing them. but those are for me those are not for the public #and also theyre in my sketchbook and Im too lazy to scan them #happened mostly during lunar new year lol. i would buy so many more shirts from artist if they were transparent on the printing process. please i need to know if it's a digital on demand print that will flake off in a few washes or a good screenprinted shirt where the print lasts longer than the shirt itself. please tell me in your product description i am begging.

#idc how good quality the digital print is they are just pressed onto the fibre and eventually will detach #meanwhile screen and block printing fades but seeps into the fibre deep enough to always stay there. I have screenprinted shirts that lasted #me years and than i cut the print out and kept it as a fabric patch #please I can't afford to buy shirts that look nasty after 5-10 washes

i have NEARLY finished the skirt for my ren faire fit i just gotta get a few finishing details added and also get the undershirt bleached (bc i got a bunch of makeup on it at last years fair and shit Stained) but THEN i can show yall the final fit!!

#day 99 #year 5 #aradia megido #homestuck #its gonna be cute #i was so fucking stressed abt this one because like. #i bought my fabric and i was like oh yeah dude this is toooootally more than enough for a circle skirt #went to finally cut things #realized i only had enough for a half-circle skirt and it would end up with a bunch of weirdly-shaped scrap at the end #(ie i would have to do a bunch of weird piecing to make the waistband and pockets and such) #and like honestly a half-circle skirt was NOT enough volume for me i need my skirts swooshy #so i was like well. okay. i think i can optimize my fabric usage more if i draft a paneled skirt #but this of course required..... Math. #and unfortunately. i was an art major. so. there was a lot of struggling #BUT I DID IT. THERE WAS STILL A LIIIIITTLE BIT OF PIECING THAT HAD TO BE DONE BUT IT IS MINIMAL AND CAMOUFLAGED PRETTY WELL #and also this is for a ren faire primarily bc i dont wear a lot of skirts in day-to-day #SO. economical fabric usage is absolutely period accurate. even though none of the rest of my outfit or techniques are. #basically all thats left for me to do is add pockets and the closure at the back #i meant to add the pockets as i was doing the main construction but i got too excited and forgor #so theres gonna be some seam ripping but nothing too bad
