Ford Torino & Gran Torino, 1972. Ford's intermediate range was redesigned and realigned for 1972. This included a switch to body-on-frame construction with 2 door models having a shorter wheelbase than the sedan and wagons. The Torino and Gran Torino were available as a 2-door hardtop (concept shown top) and a 4-door sedan; the Gran Torino Sport was available as a 2-door hardtop and SportsRoof (GTS concept pictured). The station wagon line-up consisted of three models: Torino, Gran Torino, and Gran Torino Squire (pictured). It became the best-selling intermediate for 1972, outselling Chevrolet for the first time since 1964. It was discontinued in 1976 and replaced by the LTD II and expanded Mercury Cougar range

Only in America
As a teenager in the 1970’s the television fed me a diet of America cop shows and movies – and with it their American cars. These seemed light years ahead of the cars in Britain at the time and absolutely huge – although they all seemed to have tremendous acceleration and handle like a sports car! I can easily remember: Starsky & Hutch – Starsky’s red Ford Gran Torino / Hutch’s battered Ford…

Lella Lombardi
https://www.unadonnalgiorno.it/lella-lombardi/
Tumblr media

Ford Torino facts:
There's three generations of Torinos, the first gen 68-69 Torino, the second gen 70-71 Torino, and the third gen 72-76 Torino (the third gen is then split into three models, the Gran Torino, Gran Torino Sport, and then just the third gen Torino)
They featured in Starsky & Hutch (original tv series), Gran Torino (2008), and Fast & Furious (2009) and despite this their resale value is pretty much the worst of any US mid-size car from the years they were released because they have problems with the chassis, corrosion (Torinos have been known to rust pretty bad within a few years in areas with heavy winters), the 69-73 paintjobs love to peel off, and they're just unreliable.
The Gran Torino in particular is a beloved fixture among Starsky & Hutch fans. Starsky drives it, but the actor who played him, Paul Michael Glaser, hated the thing on sight and never grew to like that model. He complained that it was hideous, didn't fit the role, and that it was a Ford. He nicknamed it the striped tomato, and this nickname was then used on the show... by Hutch. He also deliberately treated their show cars roughly out of sheer hatred.
I'm not usually into Fords myself, I'm mainly familiar with Ford truck models just due to exposure but something about all of that compels me.
*all said while driving a '71 Torino Hot Wheels car over my tits*
[extremely turned on] that's crazy I've never heard of that... it's interesting how iconic a car can be regardless of quality isn't it... [eyes completely fixated on your chest] but... you don't usually hear about Fords being the best things ever and yet... you know? you know. you could tell me anything. god I can't even think of what to say I'm genuinely a little flustered. can you give me the Torino for a second I want to have a better look of it
