Our previous article illuminated the “Top 10 Best Cities to Live in Georgia, 2023,” but we understand that knowing where not to settle can be equally crucial. This inspired us to delve into the less illustrious side of Georgia’s cities, and in the spirit of comprehensive…

You were so sick of him. The way he stood with his hands on his hip, squinting in the Georgia sun as he watched over the camp -- or, more specifically -- watched over Lori.
You respected it at first, when Rick didn't wake up and he told you, "We gotta go get Lori and Carol, (Y/N). We just got to. I gotta do right by him."
You didn't say anything when you were all stopped on the highway, watching the planes drop bombs on the city that was supposed to welcome you into safe refugee centers, and his first instinct was to hold Lori instead of you. You thought she had to be terrified, to lose her man and have to keep their son safe in such trying, unpredictable times. She probably needed that hug more than you, his own wife.
You were young when you married Shane. A drunken night led to one thing, one thing led to a baby, a baby led to another thing; a ring. But, you had a miscarriage after the wedding, and as we all know that doesn't nullify a marriage. Regardless, it wasn't a bad marriage. The relationship was mostly solid. You had suspicions, like when he'd come home from a night out with the other guys on the force with what you could have sworn were faded lipstick stains that he couldn't wipe off well enough, or smelling faintly of perfume and cigarettes. Still, he took good care of you, and you had a fair bit of freedom. He financed your art supplies, bought you records, helped you get back into school.
Your parents never had a good marriage so in comparison, you were doing well for yourself. Better than your mom, who lived on wine and Xanax, or your dad, who worked his fingers to the bone in that office, hunched over a computer, addicted to porn and cigars.
You often wondered if they had survived the initial outbreak, or if they were stumbling around King County somewhere with no heartbeat.
You shook the thought away, eyeing Shane from atop the RV where you were supposed to be watching for walkers. His skin was shiny with sweat. You wondered how long it'd be before he disappeared into the wood again. Funny how Lori always seemed to disappear at the same time, no doubt leaving Dale or Carol to keep an eye on Carl. Funny how since you'd all set up camp there by the quarry, Lori hadn't been able to make eye contact with you. Funny how he had been short with you, yet somehow managed to remain controlling  as ever. You weren't allowed out of his sight unless he was already out of yours. You couldn't talk to men like Ed or Merle and his brother. You couldn't touch the guns, not until he showed you how to use one properly. You couldn't go wash up in the quarry unless he was there to escort you at night, which he conveniently never was. You couldn't--
"You alright up here?" Dale asked.
"Oh. Yeah." You shook your head clean of the whirlwind of suspicion.
"Don't seem too focused." He observed.
"Yeah, you're right. Sorry." You said, holding the binoculars to your eyes and turning your attention to the trees.
"Why don't you go on and take a break. I'll keep an eye out for now." He offered.
"Actually, you know what? That would be really great. Thanks Dale." You smiled and passed his binoculars to him. You wanted to protest. Watch duty was your favorite, and just about the only thing you could do to make yourself useful aside from washing other people's dirty underwear.
You climbed down from the roof, expecting to walk over to your husband, but he wasn't where he stood just moments prior.
You turned to Amy, who was sitting on the steps of the RV, fanning herself. It was a particularly hot day.
"Hey. Did you see where Shane went? I just saw him over there." You asked, her pointing to where he once stood.
"I think he went to check the perimeter." She said, holding her hand over her eyes to look up at you without being blinded. It was probably just about noon now with the sun high in the sky.
"Right." You nodded. You scanned the campers around you. "What about Lori?"
        She shook her head.
"No, haven't seen her in a while. Carl's over there with Carol. She might know."
You sighed, thanking Amy as you made your way to Carol.
        "Hey. Seen Lori?"
"Yeah. She asked me to watch Carl for a bit. Not sure where she went, though."
You felt a heat in your chest. Exactly as you suspected.
You jogged back to Amy. "Hey, which way did Shane go?"
She pointed over to the tree line on your left.
"Thanks, again." You smiled in a thin line as you marched to the woods. You were determined to put an end to this shit, one way or another.
You knew they couldn't have gone far. You had just seen him not five minutes ago. You were sure you could catch up. If the Dixons were around, you'd be half tempted to approach one and ask them to track for you. Probably the younger one. That Merle would probably ask you what you were willing to give in return, and you had a feeling he wouldn't be looking for payment in the material sense. You heard quiet rustling and heavy breaths. You ducked down and made slow, quiet steps, glancing down at the ground periodically to avoid any snapping twigs or overly crunchy leaves. You came to some thicker bushes and brush, crooning you neck to peer over the leaves and thorns.
Your stomach dropped. There it was. His sweat stained white tee, panting over her navy blue tank top that fit rather loosely with all the weight loss. Her jeans and underwear in a little pile off to the side, his gun set right on top. You clenched your jaw. You wanted to storm over and yell obscenities, to kick them both into the dirt. You were stuck, though. You couldn't move. You were so angry that you were cemented in place. Most of all, you were hurt. You were younger than Shane, and younger than Rick and Lori, but somehow, some way you thought Lori was a friend to you. You watched Carl when she and Rick took date nights from time to time, you two grabbed coffee together, went back to school shopping for Carl just to get you out of the house.
It would have been one thing had she not known you, had she been a complete stranger, but she was supposed to be a friend, and Shane, he was your husband. Tears stung at your eyes as your pulse became noticeable under your skin.
That's when you saw something else, a human shape walking up behind them. Could it be? A walker coming to exact your revenge for you? No, you could never be so lucky. It was the Dixon, the young one. His boots were heavy against the forest floor, drawing the attention of Shane and Lori. They both scrambled, Shane standing and buttoning his pants back up as Lori sat and pulled her jeans over her lap to cover herself.
"Hey, man -- I -- We can explain --" Shane stuttered, Lori looking mortified.
"Ain't me ya gotta explain to." Daryl shrugged, glancing over Shane's shoulder at you as you slowly stood to your feet from behind the bushes.
"Look, man. You say anything --" Shane hissed, no doubt gearing up for some halfhearted threat, but Daryl cut him off again.
"Won't have to." He told Shane, throwing another look at you, this time prolonging eye contact.
Shane and Lori followed his gaze and landed on you.
        "(Y/N)" Lori breathed.
You tore your eyes from the huntsman, shooting visual daggers at your unfaithful husband and his backstabbing mistress.
Shane took a deep breath, rubbing his hand over his face. You said nothing. There was nothing to say. You just looked at Daryl one more time before you turned around.
"(Y/N), come on!" Shane called after you. "Let's talk about this."
You didn't want to. You just stomped your way back to camp, ignoring the curious eyes as you pulled all your things from your shared tent with Shane. You really only had your backpack and a blanket. The two of you shared the sleeping bag and a single pillow, but you didn't want that. It would smell of Shane, and at that moment the thought of him made you nauseous. You took your bag and your blanket, and made your way down to the quarry. Surely that would be the most peaceful place to sleep, by the water, under the stars, away from everyone else.
"(Y/N.)" Shane said from behind you after he likely followed you back. "What the hell are you doin'?" He asked, referring to your backpack and blanket in arms.
        "Fuck you." You grumbled.
"C'mon, what are you doin'?" He asked again. You spun on your heel, seething.
"No, Shane. What the hell are you doing?!" You shouted, drawing eyes from all around. You didn't care. In fact, you saw it as an opportunity. "Sneaking off?! Getting your dick wet?!"
"Don't do this here." He said quietly, glancing over his shoulder to where Carol sat with Carl and Sophia. They were all staring in shock, the whole camp. He reached his hands out to grab your shoulders but you stepped back, chest heaving with rage.
"Oh, why? So your girlfriend's kid doesn't know she's getting down and dirty with you in the leaves out there?" You spat back, only loud enough for him to hear. "You haven't touched me in weeks. Not since the night we left home, but you can't keep it in your pants around your dead best friend's wife?"
You shoved his chest with both hands, dropping the blanket to the ground in the process. His eyes grew dark, that pleading expression turning cold.
"I don't give a fuck how sorry you are or aren't. I don't give a good god damn how guilty she feels. I hate you, and I hate her." You added, just to drive the knife in deeper. If they could stab you in the back, you'd stab them in the chest.
        "Don't be stupid." He growled.
"Stupid is having unprotected sex in the middle of the woods when your wife is sitting on top of an RV with binoculars. Stupid is fucking your best friend's wife. Stupid is--"
He grabbed your arm with force, dragging you far away from the others. He lened in close to your face, eyes wide with fury.
"You need to stop." He warned.
"I am stopping. I'm stopping all of it. Congratulations, Shane. You don't have to hide your affair anymore. Because you no longer have a wife to cheat on. Oh, and by the way, you suck at hiding it. You both do. The whole fucking camp can see you two disappearing at the same time, every single day. We all see how you look at her, how you play house with her and Carl like your wife isn't sitting ten feet away. Is that what it is? You like making me look like a fool?"
"I'm only gonna tell you once." He hissed, scowling down at you like you were the one who betrayed him. "Keep your mouth shut."
"No problem." You sneered. "I'll keep my mouth shut, and you'll keep your distance."
----
It was dark out. Despite the blazing heat in the daytime, the nights could get pretty chilly, especially down by the water. You didn't mind. You set against the cliff, back rested against your bag, blanket wrapped over you nice and snug. You enjoyed all the stars above. They were hard to see back home, but now, without all the light pollution, they were beautiful.
"Shouldn't be out here alone." A husky voice rasped. You looked down past your feet to see the shadow of an archer, the very one who happened to catch Shane and Lori when you did.
"Nah. If any of those freaks stumble through here, they'll be drawn to the fire and the lanterns. I'm safer than ever over here in the dark."
        "Mm." He hummed. "Y'alright? After--"
"After I caught my husband fucking another woman? Yeah. All things considered, I'm better than ever." You scoffed.
"Bein' mad don't mean ya gotta be stupid. Can't stay out here." He insisted.
"Well, my tent is Shane's tent, and the RV is full." You sighed.
        "Jus' take mine." He offered.
"Yours." You repeated. "And you're gonna sleep where?"
"Outside. Prefer it that way anyway." He shrugged.
"Yeah, no. I'm not kicking you out of your own tent."
"Ain't kickin' me out if I offer."
"Well, thanks, but I'll be declining that offer."
"Suit yourself." He said as he walked back to camp. Daryl wasn't the type to go out of his way for someone else. In fact, it was rather annoying that you couldn't accept his kindness when he felt obliged to offer it. He saw how you looked when you caught them, the sickening blend of grief and rage. You hadn't done anything to deserve that, at least to his knowledge, yet you were the one with nowhere to sleep. It didn't sit right with him.
He remembered something, though. A bottle of whiskey he had stashed away in his tent. If he couldn't convince you to sleep somewhere warmer and safer than on the bed of red clay by the water, maybe you'd accept something to take your mind off it all.
He ducked into his tent and grabbed his bottle, paying no mind to his fellow survivors all huddled around the fire making small talk. Lori and Shane sat near each other, Carl in between them talking to Shane about his favorite heroes, Shane telling him stories about his dad.
Shane's eye caught Daryl as he made his way down the quarry with a bottle of liquor, no doubt on his way to you. He felt a heat in his chest, the same kind you felt when you found him rolling in the dirt with Lori. She noticed his sudden tension and followed his gaze. She looked back to Shane with worry, attempting to calm him with her eyes.
Daryl found you laying on your side, backpack under your cheek like a pillow.
        "Ya sleep?" He asked.
"No." You said, monotone and irritable.
        "Ya like whiskey?"
You sat up. Of course you liked whiskey, this is the south.
"You have some?" You inquired. He held the bottle out to you and you took it, twisting off the cap and taking a large swig. "Thanks."
"Ain't a gift." He clarified. "But ya look like you could use a drink."
He sat down a foot away from you, facing the water. You passed the bottle back to him.
        "Well, thanks for sharing."
        "Mhm."
"What would you do?" You asked him.
        "Huh?"
"I mean if you had a wife out here and you caught her fucking someone else."
"Kick her outta my tent." He said.
"And if it was her tent?"
"Too bad. Shouldn't've been sleepin' around." He shrugged, swigging the bottle and passing it to you.
"Uhuh." You nodded, sipping. "What else?"
"You askin' me for advice or somethin'?"
        "Something like that." You guessed.
"Well I'd probably kick his ass for fuckin' my wife knowin' I was right there."
"Mm. I'd love to but I can't exactly whoop someone who still has to look out for a kid."
"Guess ya just gotta ignore 'em." He suggested, taking the bottle as you handed it over.
        "How? I live with them."
"Want me to kill 'em?" He joked. You chuckled.
        "Kinda." You admitted.
"Mm. Too easy. I'd tie 'em up outside the city and leave 'em to the walkers."
"Oh, you've put thought into this?" You asked. He tipped the bottle bac and took a gulp.
"Nah. If I did I'd have somethin' more creative."
"The hell's this?" Shane asked, suddenly looming over the two of you.
Daryl stood up. "Just havin' a drink." He said, eyeing Shane.
"With my wife?" Shane stepped forward, so Daryl did too.
"Looks single to me." Daryl shrugged. He didn't come over with the intentions of making a move on you. Really he hadn't noticed you around at all. He, however, also wasn't one to back down from a fight, and he already had a distaste for the ex-fed, self proclaimed leader.
"What?" Shane asked through gritted teeth, swaying as he grew more antsy to take a swing.
"You're a real piece of work, you know that Shane?" You sighed, standing up. You weren't phased by his sudden intrusion, you knew him too well to be surprised.
"Yeah, why don't ya go back to sleepin' with the widow?" Daryl added. That was enough for Shane. He threw the first punch, but Daryl recovered quickly, getting a good knock to the ribs in before you inserted yourself between them, one hand to each man's chest.
"Can we chill with the dick-measuring contest? He brought me a drink because he felt bad for me. Nothing else, because unlike you," you said to Shane, "some men are capable of keeping their willies tucked away."
"Yeah, right, like he wasn't just waitin' for you to get drunk and start feelin' vengeful." Shane spat.
"I don't fuck drunk girls, asshole." Daryl spoke up. "That's for cops and losers."
"Man, you think you can take me? You want a piece of this?" Shane started to raise his voice now.
"Yeah, c'mon then, prick." Daryl said, throwing his arms up. The two men stepped in circles around you as you tried to keep a barrier between them.
"Yeah, come on then, pussy!" Shane shouted.
"Pussy? Nah, man. You're the coward, slidin' your dick in some vulnerable window when ya had a tight piece o' ass right here waitin' for ya every night!" Daryl yelled back.
"What is goin' on here?" Lori came in, eyes blazing between the three of you.
"Wha'd'ya waitin' for, man? There's your side piece, go on and get her!" Daryl said.
Shane lunged forward and you gripped around his torso tight, banking on the hope that he wouldn't hurt you to get past you, at least nit in front of her.
"Don't fuckin' talk about here like that!" Shane seethed.
"Yeah well ya sure didn't care 'bout me callin' your wife a tight piece of ass! I see where your priorities lie!"
You couldn't afford to get distracted with the details as you put all your focus and strength into holding on to Shane to prevent anyone from getting hurt. However, the Dixon made some valid points.
"Stop it, you two!" Lori begged.
"Hate to say it," you strained against Shane's strength, digging your feet into the dirt as his strong frame fought against you. "But I'm with Lori."
"Y'all need to calm down before--"
"Is everything okay?" Dale's voice sounded from behind Lori, cutting her off. Amy, Andrea, and Morales stood with him. Lori sighed and put her hand over her forehead.
Shane finally relented and you gratefully let go of him, turning to face the crowd of onlookers.
        "What happened here?" Dale inquired.
"He was makin' a move on my wife." Shane panted, still coming down from the surge of adrenaline and rage.
You scoffed, gawking at his audacity. You glared at Lori for a moment, running your tongue over your teeth before you shook your head and chuckled.
"No, he brought me a drink because he felt bad for me, sleeping out here alone." You corrected.
"Why are you sleeping all the way out here?" Andrea asked, shaking her head with confusion.
"Yeah, it's really not safe. You should be up there with us." Amy added.
"Yeah, Shane, Lori." You cocked your head to the side, crossing your arms as you looked between the two of them. "Why am I sleeping all the way out here? Hm?"
Lori looked at you with wide, anxious eyes as Shane just shot daggers at you and Daryl. Lori looked back to everyone else, who seemed to be confused, except for Dale who had a knack for picking up on things.
"Maybe we should head back to camp. It's getting late." Dale suggested.
"I'm good." You rolled your eyes. "Thanks for ruining yet another peaceful moment." You said to Shane.
        "I'm confused." Andrea spoke up.
"Oh, allow me to clarify." You smiled, sickeningly sweet. Lori shook her head at you, but you ignored her. "Shane, my husband, and Lori, have been keeping a secret from us. Care to share with the class?"
"(Y/N), man, come on. Why you gotta start problems?" Shane let out an exasperated sigh.
"No? Okay, allow me to speak on your behalf, then. My husband has been fucking Lori, who, if you guys weren't aware, is married to Shane's best friend, who he claims is dead." You said.
        God, did that feel good.
Everyone looked stunned, save for Lori who just looked humiliated and mortified, and Shane, who was more pissed than anything else.
"Some leader, huh? A real honest guy." You added, just to add insult to injury. Salt in the open wound, if you will.
"Oh...kay... Why don't we just.." Dale was at a loss for words.
"Maybe (Y/N) can stay in the RV with us." Amy suggested.
"Yeah, I think that'd be just fine." Dale agreed.
"No need." You looked to Shane, smirking. "Daryl here has offered his tent."
Daryl shot you a look. He had no intentions of being your pawn in some twisted revenge scheme.
        "You did?" Andrea asked.
Daryl nodded. "Yeah, told her she could have it 'til she figures somethin' else out."
"And you're gonna sleep... Where?" She wondered.
        "Outside." He shrugged.
Shane scoffed and shook his head, hands rested on his hips in that police stance you had grown to hate. Your nostrils flared at him in disgust.
----
"Why'd ya do that?" Daryl asked.  You were all back at camp now. He was grabbing some essentials from his tent to make room for you. "Make it like it was somethin' it ain't?"
"What do you mean? I told the truth. You offered your tent."
"Nah, you wanted to get under his skin." He shook his head at you as you stood with your bag over your shoulder and your dusty blanket balled up in your arms.
        "I mean, yeah, but--"
"But nothin'. I ain't gon' be part of your revenge and I damn sure ain't gonna be no rebound dick to ride 'til ya feel better." He cut you off before he stormed away.

So al was asking ppl to ask her questions as her Fridays are so dull while her partner doing a play. Doesn't she find when she wiv michael it dull cos usually shows it or the other way round and then the bird one I found interesting cos since when have we seen Ms be protective over Al we haven't seen him speak or defend his relationship of what the journalists or ppl say about his relationship of what was said on weds where she defended it and and put a insta story about it we all know he loud but protective I think if he had to choose to protect or save someone it would be david hands down not al
What ur thoughts love to hear ur take on this
Tumblr media
(Grouping together for ease of answering. @hyperfixating-rn-brb's Ask is referring to the last screenshot.)
So, I saw this as it was happening on Friday, and...yeah. I'm not sure what the impetus behind this random Insta AMA was (perhaps PR suggesting that Anna do something to counter her rash of recent off-putting social media posts?), but whatever the reason, choices™ were definitely made with some of (well, most of) her answers.
I think what struck me about the ones in these screenshots is how they’re lowkey insulting to Michael, but all in different ways (and not overtly, but passive-aggressively, as hyperfixating-rn-brb mentioned). It also seems odd that AL is currently in London, one of the most dynamic and attraction-filled cities imaginable, yet acting as if there is nothing to do on a Friday night. (Because Michael (and/or Georgia) aren't there to entertain her, I guess?)
Leaving that aside, the entire way this happened was just strange. A lot of the questions felt very boilerplate ("Are you currently reading anything?" "Who is your biggest inspiration?") and almost like they were planned in advance (I think at least one actually was from someone AL knows personally, IIRC), yet interspersed with enough "wacky" questions to give the impression of it being this spontaneous Q&A thing.
As for the answers in the screenshots above, I saw people on Twitter getting outraged over the "girly" question on Saturday, but predictably for all the wrong reasons. In particular, I noticed people once again blaming Michael/David shippers for it, but just from the wording alone, my feeling was that whoever sent in this question did not seem to be a shipper at all. "Girly" has a very specific, borderline homophobic connotation to it (akin to someone asking Anna if she "acts dykey" around Georgia), and while I know English is not her first language, I don't think that meaning is something AL would have missed.
So, no, it's certainly not a great or appropriate question by any means. But the bigger issue, at least in my opinion, wasn't so much "Why would someone ask this?", but rather "Why would she post this?" Because Anna is a grown woman who could have very easily just ignored this question altogether. Instead, she chose to draw attention to it, and to react in much the same way as her "vagueblogging" from the other day. It was as if the purpose in sharing it was to show people what she has to "put up with"--either from the fans or from Michael or both.
That's the other piece of this--that she shared this question with seemingly no regard for how it makes Michael look, or whether it would or could be embarrassing to him. It immediately made me think of this tweet from Michael two years ago, where he chose to answer a question in such a way as to deliberately not embarrass David (further explanation can be found here). It's something that seems so small but means so much, and that you'd think would happen effortlessly for someone you love. So the contrast of that to Anna posting this was striking to me, and it was further compounded by her answer to the "favorite bird" question.
Again, it's almost unsurprising at this point. Anna has previously made unflattering comparisons between Michael and Cousin Itt, a Hobbit, and Hagrid--among others--and now we can add a cockatiel to this list. What’s weird is that the question itself had nothing to do with Michael, so there was absolutely no reason to bring him into it...and yet. It felt like name dropping for the sake of name dropping, which just seems like a weird thing to do when she's been dating him for five years now. Did she think we forgot? That we needed a reminder? Whatever the reason, this definitely seemed like such a strange choice, and another instance of passive-aggressively putting him down under the pretense of a compliment.
(A note about the "protective" part, as I noticed that was particularly mentioned in this Ask. I would agree that there are a lot more overt/visible instances of Michael being protective of David--many of which I have talked about on my blog--than of Anna. That does not mean I don't think he is protective of her, however, but that there is a distinction between the two. It is possible to be protective of someone out of a sense of responsibility and obligation, and those are not necessarily bad things. But it's very different to being protective of someone not because you feel like you have to be protective, but because you want to be. Interpret that how you will...)
Finally, I just need to mention that one of the questions AL was asked was about Georgia ("Is Georgia secretly holding you hostage?"), and what I have hardly seen anyone talking about is that Georgia reshared that Insta story a short while later...and added a song called "I'm Trapped"...
Tumblr media
I just...was this meant to be shady on Georgia's part? Who, exactly, is "trapped" here? The subtext and potential implications can go in so many directions here that it's hard to know where to start, but...yeah. The optics of Georgia resharing this story and adding that song in the middle of AL's Insta Q&A were and are questionable/cringey/unintentionally hilarious on multiple levels.
So yes, that is my take on the events of Friday night. As I've said before and will again, I know I could be totally off the mark here, so I'd love to hear from my followers as to what you think. Thank you for writing in! x

Average Petrol Prices across Europe, the USA, and Canada.
by u/LjSpike
I saw this map posted by /u/maps_us_eu, and credit to them it does succeed at a lot of things many maps fail at, but given it's such a comparably simple piece of data to represent, and the fact that this was being heralded in a few comments as an example of a perfect map, I thought I'd quickly smash one together.
It was made using www.mapchart.net with a little labelling in Paint.NET all manually in just an hour.
SOURCES:
For the USA prices, I used this source (https://www.gasbuddy.com/usa) instead, as it let me see all states in a table.
For Canada, I used this source (https://www.caa.ca/gas-prices/) in combination with this source (https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Canada/gasoline_prices/) to make sense of why caa.ca's figures were so high (I assume Canada multiply their figures by 100, for whatever reason).
For Europe I also used cargopedia (https://www.cargopedia.net/europe-fuel-prices) and supplemented it with data for Monaco (https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Monaco/gasoline_prices/), Liechtenstein (https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Liechtenstein/gasoline_prices/), and Montenegro (https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Montenegro/gasoline_prices/) and used a news report to estimate for Kosovo (https://euronews.al/en/kosovo/2022/06/13/price-of-fuels-in-kosovo-reaches-e1-90-euros/).
EXPLANATION OF DECISIONS IN MAKING THIS MAP:
Firstly, the colour scheme is colourblind friendly to all three most common forms of colourblindness (Protanope, Deuteranope, and Tritanope), although tritanope viewers sadly don't get a rather intuitive colour for the scale. It also applies a dark/light/dark scheme (avoiding white) for the colours so as to help improve the ability to distinguish colours and spot extremes easier.
Secondly, I have included all of Europe, because including just the EU is peculiar frankly, and granted /u/maps_us_eu did include data for non-EU countries, but in such a way myself and several others did not even notice them at first, as they're just randomly placed in a little cluster of boxes. Usually you would do that for microstates such as Monaco who would be too small to see, or countries such as Iceland which may be far off the map, but neither of those apply for the UK, Norway, or Switzerland, and Hawaii and Alaska got to be represented with full size and shape of their states (albeit shifted of course in position).
Thirdly, I decided screw it, the US data is going to be inevitably boring without a very granular scale, so I would include in Canada too, because CAN/USA is probably a more relevant comparison than USA/EUR (or USA/EU), this way we've got all three major regions of the "Western World".
The Vatican City (and I guess technically a couple of North African countries) are the only states on the map without data, so the Vatican isn't shown and only a trace outline of North Africa is present.
For other small regions, such as D.C., Monaco, Andorra, etc., a small circle with the appropriate colour is shown at their location.
A different set of thresholds for the key is used, with 6 as opposed to 5 colours, this is to provide a better distinction of what is going on in Europe. If I were to spend more time on this, I'd actually see if I can remain colourblind friendly while adding a seventh category marking "less than EUR 0.9/L", it would better distinguish the US states and show Missouri, Florida, Wisconsin, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas as the cheapest states for fuel. That's a clear oversight on my part.
I intentionally have chosen not to include the exact values, as I suspect slight errors due to currency could've been introduced, and the days for the data in different nations/regions differs a little, plus they are national/state averages anyway, so I think omission of putting on the figures is appropriate and helps make the map less busy.
I didn't include the miscellaneous data of population, landmass area, or a scale bar, this is superfluous to what is being shown.
As for showing the key in $/Gal or CAN/L, then I'd also have to justify why it's not got data in every non-euro country currency, and I'm also being a little lazy, this really is just to showcase a few bits about mapmaking so that hopefully we can all improve our maps a little bit.
ERROR:
I did not notice when making, but caa.ca didn't list data for the three northern territories, and as I did the prices in descending order and many US states were in the lowest bracket, I'd assumed the three Canadian territories were in there too (did not realise until this morning that Canada has territories and provinces), and so I coloured them as the lowest price bracket.
The three northern territories instead have no data, this is entirely my fault and I apologise.

PR6 PREDICTIONS - Eagle Union
This time around the burgerboats have plenty of choices for at least 1 PR, maybe even a DR! and I am here to tell you all about them.
Like always: Just like last post: Do not treat any of the following choices as guaranteed. I would not bet money on any of these specific ones getting added as part of PR6 this year, it's just the ships I see as Very LikelyTM.
Let's start with the DRs. There are 2 main candidates and both are effectively the same thing.
Tumblr media
USS Delaware
Tumblr media
USS Kearsarge
Both are hybrid battleships. We only got 4 BBVs in Azur Lane and they all suck (even if waifu>meta) and are from Sakura. These 2 different hybrid battleships would be, well, different.
Delaware would have access to a squadron of 5 dive bombers that drop 10 bombs (2 per bomber), fast and tanky planes. Her upgraded ones are AD-1 Skyriders, which is a plane that exsisted I guess (I'm not an aviation nerd). Kearsarge, however, has access to attack aircraft; her only option being a squadron of 5 F8F Bearcat.
This means both ships would be able to equip any planes whatsoever (well, dive bombers or fighters, but any of those), unlike the existing BBVs.
Delaware is literally an Iowa with a runway strapped on top.
In terms of gunplay, Kearsarge is an absolute monster - her 12 406mm guns hit like trucks but are delivered in 3-5 shipping days (as in, they're slow). Delaware is ok, her shells are a bit faster because they have longer barrels.
Any of them could be the DR of the Eagle Union.
Tumblr media
USS Vallejo
A preliminary design of the Worcester-class light cruisers, she would undoubtedly be a PR. She's mediocre at best - Seattle is better in a lot of regards, but she has a high rate of fire and very good AA. She's an option but honestly, I don't think we'll get her.
Tumblr media
USS Tulsa
I can't find info on her existence IRL, so I assume she's a made-up Wargaming ship, meaning she counts for PR6.
Tulsa is a half-sister of the Oregon City-class, meaning she'd be a half-sister of Northampton II in AL (same way Ägir and Brünhilde or Monarch and the KGV-class can be considered half-sisters if you squint).
She fires incredibly, incredibly fast. Her reload rate is 5.8 seconds, which, even if she only has 6 guns, is scary because those are Des Moines guns. Des Moines is a famously great heavy cruiser in WoWs, having a faster-firing variant one tier lower is intimidating.
She would be PR and honestly, I see her addition far more likely than Vallejo. Besides, Tulsa is a cool name.
Tumblr media
USS Congress
A preliminary design of the Alaska-class.
Yes. A large cruiser.
I see Congress being the Georgia of USN vanguard ships. She would act as a herald of what's to come for when we inevitable get Alaska (and possibly Guam as well); same way Georgia acted as a tease for the Iowa-class (of whom we have only gotten NJ. PLEASE ADD MORE IOWAS. I DARE YOU). In terms of gameplay she's extremely fragile and weak in the wrong hands, but can be a useful asset. She has good AA, radar, hydroacoustic search, and only 7 305mm guns. But those are 7 very hard hitting 305mm guns, which can devastate anything that's a lower tier.
Tumblr media
USS Constellation
The capital ships don't stop coming.
Constellation is a what-if: "what if Lexington and Saratoga never underwent aircraft carrier conversions?"
The answer is a funny little battlecruiser. Well, "little". This shit has more free board than [insert hilarous comparison].
However, despite her obvious weakness of having a lot of flat armor on her sides, she's somewhat fast and has 8 406mm guns. That hit like trucks. Like all American 406mm guns (except you, Colorado. You suck.) And radar. And one of the best AAs of all battleships. And if you thought those were all her gimmicks, she also has a spotter plane, meaning she can fire at a ludicrous range.
Oh.
And torpedoes.
This bitch has torpedoes.
Tumblr media
USS Minnesota
She's a fat, slow, slumbering, ugly, hideous battleship. A Tillman design, ever wonder why the Colorados were the last Tillman design? yeah, because they suck.
Minnesota is an enlarged Colorado in the most literal sense. She has 40 seconds of reload. You can genuinely prepare coffee from scratch while you wait for her guns to reload. And her guns are disappointingly innacurate at times.
But when they hit.
Oh god. They hit.
Tumblr media
USS Nebraska.
If we get neither Kearsarge nor Delaware, there's always Nebraska.
She would be PR. She's a North Carolina that can launch Helldivers.
Tumblr media
USS Annapolis
The hail mary.
She's a super-super Des Moines. She's the heavy cruiser to end all heavy cruisers. If we get her, she would be a DR for sure, and would outdamage some of the already top-tier battleships in Azur Lane. It's impossible that we get her, but it would be incredibly funny.

Alex Joseph ’10 (@AlexJosephATL): Why Atlanta Should #StopCopCity
Written by Alex Joseph ‘10
I never imagined my first foray into local politics would start like it did: I got into a fight on Twitter with a local elected official. My city council member had just tweeted a strongly-worded statement denouncing a controversial $90 million police and fire department training center being planned in Atlanta, Georgia known as “Cop City.” In that same statement, however, they also said that despite their opposition to the project, the city council did not have the power to cancel the city’s lease agreement and to stop the construction of Cop City. As a lawyer who represents cities and counties and a person who has rented several apartments (and broken several leases), I just didn’t believe their statement that nothing could be done.
I then spent the weekend digging into the publicly available lease and what I found surprised me. In short, the lease has a provision (Sec. 4.3) that allows the mayor to terminate the lease at any time with or without cause with the requirement of giving the lessee (in this case, the Atlanta Police Foundation) 180 days written notice. And after further research, I uncovered that the city council can also adopt a resolution at any time to cancel the lease! To summarize these findings, I wrote this legal memorandum and shared it with the public, via Twitter of course. My hope is that members of the public will use the information and legal arguments contained in my memorandum to have constructive, fact-based conversations with our elected officials and ultimately persuade them to cancel the lease between the city and the Atlanta Police Foundation.
The lease should be canceled for many reasons. First, the proposed site location is within the Weelaunee Forest, which is Atlanta’s largest remaining green space and one of the city’s greatest defenses against worsening climate change. The forest was originally inhabited by the Muscogee (Creek) Tribe before their forced removal in the early 19th century. The area then became part of a complex of farms that included a slave plantation and was purchased by the City of Atlanta in 1911. The city would operate the land as a prison farm until the mid-1990s.
The $90 million conceptualized Cop City facility will include a mock city, a “burn building” for firefighters to practice, a firing range, a driving course, stables and pastureland for police horses and kennels for K-9 units, along with training classrooms. The design designates 85 acres of the proposed site location to be turned into the training facility while the other 265 are slated to be preserved as greenspace. The scale of the project is truly unprecedented. For comparison, the NYPD’s training academy is a roughly 32-acre campus and the LAPD training campus is about 20 acres. The proposed site location is also in an area largely made up of Black residents — one of the groups most at risk of over-policing.
Tumblr media
But perhaps the most important reason the lease should be canceled is because Atlantans are, for the most part, vehemently against the construction of Cop City. When the proposal first emerged on the city council meeting docket for consideration, there were 1,166 comments from the public, totalling 17 hours, the majority of which were in opposition to the project. This has been the driving force behind my research and involvement because no matter where one stands on the issues surrounding Cop City, I think we all agree our elected officials should listen to the voices of their constituents. Today, protests continue against the project and while construction is slated to begin in August, there is energy in the community around holding councilmembers accountable for acknowledging the feasibility of canceling the lease. I’m glad that in a small way, my legal research has helped amplify these voices loud enough for decision makers to listen.

America’s Sinking East Coast
In many parts of the U.S. East Coast, rising seas driven by melting ice and the thermal expansion of warming water is only part of what threatens coastal areas. The land is also sinking. This geologic two-step is happening rapidly enough to threaten infrastructure, farmland, and wetlands that tens of millions of people along the coast rely upon, according to a NASA-funded team of scientists at Virginia Tech’s Earth Observation and Innovation (EOI) Lab.
The researchers analyzed satellite data and ground-based GPS sensors to map the vertical and horizontal motion of coastal land from New England to Florida. In a study published in PNAS Nexus, the team reported that more than half of infrastructure in major cities such as New York, Baltimore, and Norfolk is built on land that sank, or subsided, by 1 to 2 millimeters per year between 2007 and 2020. Land in several counties in Delaware, Maryland, South Carolina, and Georgia sank at double or triple that rate. At least 867,000 properties and critical infrastructure including several highways, railways, airports, dams, and levees were all subsiding, the researchers found.
The findings follow a previous study from the EOI Lab, published in Nature Communications, that used the same data to show that most East Coast marshes and wetlands—critical for protecting many cities from storm surge during hurricanes—were sinking by rates exceeding 3 millimeters per year. They found that at least 8 percent of coastal forests had been displaced due to subsidence and saltwater intrusion, leading to a proliferation of “ghost forests.”
“Subsidence is a pernicious, highly localized, and often overlooked problem in comparison to global sea level rise, but it’s a major factor that explains why water levels are rising in many parts of the eastern U.S.,” said Leonard Ohenhen, a geophysicist at Virginia Tech. The consequences for people living along the coast include more “clear sky” tidal flooding, more damaged homes and infrastructure, and more problems with saltwater intruding into farmland and fresh water supplies.
“The good news is that subsidence is a problem that we can slow at local scales to some degree,” said Manoochehr Shirzaei, a co-author on both studies and director of the EOI Lab. Some important human-caused drivers that contribute to subsidence include groundwater extraction, the construction of dams and other infrastructure that block the natural flow of sediment that replenishes river deltas, and the drying and compaction of peat soils.
The map above highlights the variability in the rising and falling of land—or vertical land motion—across much of the East Coast. Areas shown in blue subsided between 2007 and 2020, with darker blue areas sinking the fastest. The areas shown in dark red rose the fastest. The satellite data in the map have an average spatial resolution of 50 meters per pixel, which is better than previous maps based only on ground-based sensors.
The map was created by comparing thousands of scenes of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data collected between 2007 and 2020 by Japan’s Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) and Europe’s Sentinel-1 satellites. Ohenhen and colleagues looked for subtle changes in the data collected at different time periods to calculate the rate of land motion using a processing technique known as interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR). To check and improve the accuracy of the satellite observations, they also used horizontal and vertical velocity data from ground-based receiving stations in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).
Part of the reason that the Mid-Atlantic is sinking more rapidly than the northeastern U.S. is because the edge of the massive Laurentide ice sheet, which covered much of northern North America during the height of the most recent Ice Age, ran through northern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Ice-free lands to the south of that line, especially in the Mid-Atlantic, bulged upward while ice-covered lands to north were pushed downward by the weight of the ice, Shirzaei explained. When the ice sheet started retreating 12,000 years ago, the Mid-Atlantic region began sinking gradually downward—and continues to do so today—while the northeastern U.S. and Canada began rising as part of a rebalancing process called glacial isostatic adjustment.
While the edge of the Laurentide ice sheet never got close to northern Florida, that region has relatively high rates of uplift due to another geologic process—the gradual dissolution and lightening of karst landscapes due to the infiltration of groundwater.
These natural isostatic adjustments take place relatively deep underground, occur over long periods of time, affect broad areas, and are responsible for about half of the vertical land motion that satellites observed along the East Coast, Shirzaei said. However, shorter-lived, human-caused processes happening closer to the surface can also have a strong influence in certain areas.
The rapid subsidence in some parts of the Eastern Shore in Maryland and parts of Virginia near areas of uplift is likely partly a product of groundwater withdrawals and intentional pumping of water back into aquifers to minimize the effects of saltwater intrusion, explained Ohenhen. Likewise, the high rates of subsidence in coastal Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are likely influenced by the presence of dams that block sediment that would otherwise travel down several key rivers and replenish coastal lands, and the draining and compaction of peat soils.
Tumblr media
Charleston, South Carolina, is among the cities scrambling to react to subsidence and rising seas. This city of 800,000 people is one of the fastest sinking cities (about 4 millimeters per year) in the eastern U.S., with a portion of that thought to be the result of human activities, including groundwater pumping. With much of the downtown built at an elevation less than 3 meters (10 feet) above sea level, the frequency of tidal flooding has increased sharply in recent decades, and the city is considering building an 8-mile seawall around the Charleston peninsula to protect its downtown from storm surges.
The Virginia Tech team also observed that parts of Charleston had differences in the rate of subsidence within a relatively small area, a phenomenon known as differential subsidence. “That’s a problem because it puts more strain on infrastructure,” said Ohenhen. Other areas with high rates of differential subsidence were in the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Boston.
This effort to map the Atlantic Coast followed a similar effort by the same lab to map vertical land motion along the California coast. "Subsidence on the Atlantic Coast is actually worse than on the Pacific Coast,” Shirzaei said. “It is more widespread, more rapid, and more impactful because communities and infrastructure are located closer to sea level than on the West Coast.”
The lab’s next project is to map the Gulf Coast. “Our long-range goal is to map all of the world’s coastlines using this technique,” Shirzaei added. “We know that planners in several U.S. cities are already using our data to make our coastlines more resilient, and we want cities all over the world to be able to do be able to do the same.”

At the World Economic Forum, which started Monday in Davos, Switzerland, the global business and political elite will discuss how to combat climate change, but their own private jet travel to attend the conference will cause a spike in planet-warming carbon emissions, according to a new study from Greenpeace International.
The research, released last Thursday, which was compiled by the Dutch environmental consultancy CE Delft, found twice as many private jets flew to and from airports serving Davos during the 2022 WEF meeting compared with an average week. The carbon dioxide emissions from these extra flights were equal to putting roughly 350,000 gasoline-powered cars on the road for the same weeklong period.
In recent weeks, Europe has been contending with a number of extreme weather events related to climate change. A heat wave over New Year’s weekend broke records in locations such as Warsaw, Poland, where a temperature of 66 degrees Fahrenheit was 9°F warmer than the previous all-time high. Parts of Switzerland saw temperatures upwards of 68°F, and some ski resorts in the Alps closed due to a lack of snow. In 2022 — the fifth-hottest year on record — heat waves in Europe smashed records for temperatures and wildfire prevalence.
“Europe is experiencing the warmest January days ever recorded and communities around the world are grappling with extreme weather events supercharged by the climate crisis,” said Klara Maria Schenk, transport campaigner for Greenpeace’s European mobility campaign, in a statement. “Meanwhile, the rich and powerful flock to Davos in ultra-polluting, socially inequitable private jets to discuss climate and inequality behind closed doors.”
The study found that of the 1,040 private jet flights in or out of airports near Davos, 53% were shorter than 466 miles and 38% were under 310 miles. The shortest flight recorded was only 13 miles. Short-haul flights are especially polluting because airplanes are less efficient during landing and takeoff.
For the sake of comparison, the distance between Washington, D.C., and New Haven, Conn., is 305 miles, and between Boston and Washington, D.C., is 440. While it is not uncommon for Americans to fly such distances, Europe has a much more comprehensive, affordable, fast and reliable train network, which serves Davos.
France recently became the first country to ban short flights between cities that are connected by a rail trip of less than two and a half hours. A spokesperson for the French government said at the time that France won’t ban private jets, but it will produce a plan that would reduce private jet usage through taxation and regulation.
Environmentalists are increasingly arguing that the European Union should ban such private flights. Last November, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, 700 climate activists staged a sit-in on the tarmac in front of 13 private jets preparing for takeoff, grounding all of them for more than six hours.
“The superrich have got used to polluting as they please with a total disregard for people and planet, and private jets are the pinnacle of these luxury emissions that we simply cannot afford,” Jonathan Leggett, one of the activists, later told the Intercept.
On Monday, activists from the Swiss Debt for Climate group held a similar demonstration with a four-hour blockade at the airport in Altenrhein, Switzerland, near Davos.
Attendees at this year’s WEF include European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, U.S. climate envoy John Kerry, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Philippine President Bongbong Marcos. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., Chris Coons, D-Del., and Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz, and Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp were among those meeting with a group of business leaders, including Hewlett Packard Enterprise CEO Antonio Neri, in Davos on Monday.
In the past, Kerry has been criticized for hypocrisy by conservative media outlets such as Fox News for flying by private jet. Kerry had previously defended his private flights, arguing that his extremely busy travel schedule in the service of combating climate change makes it necessary and noting that he buys carbon offsets to mitigate the impact. But last November, he flew commercial to Egypt to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference, known as COP27.
Former Vice President Al Gore spoke in Davos on Monday about climate change, arguing that multilateral lending institutions like the World Bank need to make more funding for a clean energy transition available to developing countries. Gore has said that sometimes he has flown by chartering a private jet but that he usually flies commercial. Kerry struck similar notes in his Tuesday speech in Davos.
“I’m convinced we will get to a low-carbon, no-carbon economy — we’re going to get there because we have to,” Kerry said. “I am not convinced we’re going to get there in time to do what the scientists said, which is avoid the worst consequences of the crisis. So how do we get there? ... Money, money, money, money, money, money, money.”
Greenpeace argues that the private jet use makes a mockery of the WEF’s stated commitment to helping prevent catastrophic climate change.
“Davos has a perfectly adequate railway station, still these people can’t even be bothered to take the train for a trip as short as 21 kilometers,” Schenk said. “Given that 80% of the world’s population has never even flown, but suffers from the consequences of climate-damaging aviation emissions, and that the WEF claims to be committed to the 1.5°C Paris Climate Target, this annual private jet bonanza is a distasteful master class in hypocrisy. Private jets must be consigned to history if we are to have a green, just and safe future for all.”
There are other climate-focused protests expected at the forum this week. High-profile youth activists Greta Thunberg and Vanessa Nakate will be in town to demand an end to new oil and gas drilling projects. Thunberg has made a point of avoiding flying at all when possible, including by sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, but she has flown when alternatives are unavailable.
The WEF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In 2019, when a previous study of private jet usage for flying to and from the forum sparked criticism, the organization responded that participants are taking fewer private flights each year.
“We have been offering incentives to participants to use public transport for some years,” the WEF said in a statement in 2019. “We also ask that they share planes if they have to use them, something that has been gaining popularity in recent years.”

It’s all coming together now, commonwealth arc is already done and out of the way, and now what’s left is the CRM and chunks of it divided in the spin-off shows. It’s unfortunate we didn’t see our mascot of TD in the flagship show but there’s still TONS of hope for the spin-off shows. Which spin-off show do you think we’d see our mascot; Beth first? I’m really hoping for Dead City starring Maggie and Negan. Think about it; Beth being in NYC which is a really big city would be a nice callback to her days at Grady in Atlanta, and she’s a southerner farmer girl from Georgia who would have trouble navigating her way around there. Knowing how ENORMOUSLY big CRM is as a whole, Beth being trapped in NYC would be incredibly so much harder to escape from CRM clutches than her escape attempts back at Grady. In comparison, Grady must’ve been handled Beth with kiddie gloves while imagining what CRM could possibly do to Beth. I mean it makes you think, right? Like Rick briefly escape from them for some reason (other than to get back to Alexandria; his family).
Love all your analysis here, and I heartily agree. Especially now that we're getting the final season of FTWD, I'm definitely seeing foreshadows and parallels in Madison's arc. More on that in the coming week.
I honestly don't know which spinoff we'll see her in first. The Daryl spinoff is the obvious choice, but I really love the idea of seeing her somewhere else first. And it doesn't even have to be her interacting with any characters. Like, if we did see her in Dead City, yeah it could totally be Maggie seeing her first, but I'd even be happy if they gave us a coda, like they did with Rick and Michonne in the flagship show, where we, the audience see her, but the other characters don't.
I just love the idea of going into the Daryl spinoff with the audience knowing she's out there somewhere, and also knowing that Daryl doesn't realize that, yet. It would just make for such a great, anticipatory energy.
But I totally agree with you that her being somewhere much bigger with the CRM is all kinds of plausible. Love it! Xoxo! 🌺💞

2. Connecting Art To Your World
Color can have a significant effect on individuals both psychologically and emotionally. For instance, when I look at a sunset the intensity of the shades/tints of orange in the sky evoke a sense of warmth and happiness. On the other hand, the blue sky during daytime evokes a calming sense. Overall, the colors I see when I look at a sunset and sky makes me feel happy and a sense of comfort.
If I had to pick a color scheme for my life, I would pick a neutral color scheme because neutral colors are my favorite because you don't get tired of looking at them like you would looking at a bright color.
3. Art Project
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is an acrylic painting that depicts an Indian woman looking out at the city of Dubai. I'm passionate about this painting because I am an Indian girl and Dubai is my favorite city, thus while waiting this I imagined myself as the girl in the painting depicted.
4. Discussion
Logos:
Michael Kors
Apple
Stanley
Gucci
MAC
The North Face
How do you know about these logos?
The logo's of Michael Kors, Apple, and MAC are ones that I always saw in my house growing up because my parents used products from  these brands. When I became old enough to use products from these brands, I began to see the logo's even more. I learned about the Stanley and The North Face logo's when I saw my friends using products from these brands, then later bought them myself. I learned about Gucci by watching influencers on social media platforms.
What is your understanding of the value of logos?
I believe logos are very valuable and serve as a point of identification. Additionally, I think that having a memorable logo is very important thing for brands to have because a logo is often the first people see when looking at a product from a specific brand and its the first thing they will remember about that brand. A logo is also a way for brands to reflect their core ideas.

[TRIPPIN (Chicago Edition)]
ADDED NOTE: Was not short as intended. My bad
#TheInnovators
It doesn’t necessarily anger me. Somewhat, but not as badly as it would for others to take this in.
I will never forgive the world for overusing, misusing and taking credit for my city and it’s natives’ culture. Chicago is responsible for most of what is referred to as “Gen-Z language”, majority of today’s popular terms, phrases, trends, fashion styles, looks, aesthetics and more. I won’t dive deep because I intended on this being as short as possible. We sometimes don’t even notice the impact of being America’s 3rd largest city because of how quickly what we start internally, travels. We are so focused on our individuality, that we don’t even bat an eye to it.
I am more so upset by the use of our struggles and influence. Example: Music (Hip-Hop). I’ll start with Kanye West. He had launched an entire wave of artists claiming nativity (being “from”) cities they weren’t born in. He took credit for popularizing an artist (Chief Keef), which we popularized ourselves, which got him noticed in the first place. Keef, was pioneering a wave that gave notice to our city’s struggle of gang violence, drug abuse and the on-going Police-African American feud. All issues were instigated and amplified by our aggressors, the police and/or white people (caucasians).
Kanye is known for making use of our city’s rappers musical talents to notarize his own career.
Twista - Fast Rapping/Lyrical Talent.
Lupe Fiasco - Lyricism/Intelligence.
Chief Keef - Drill/Gangs/Drug Abuse.
The first to launch the producer to rapper portion of his career, the second to place himself back in the spotlight only to bash a native (Soulja Boy Tell’em), last to do the same while he was struggling post-Swift incident and to measure up to rising talent. He even used Chance The Rapper to relaunch it again. An artist who popularized Apple Music and made it where many artists now get paid for the company’s generated revenue. Still, while being an Atlanta native
His city has a similar issue with surrounding Georgia cities/suburbs claiming to be Atlanta natives as well.
The drill music issue only frustrates me due to others believing we’re the influencers. The artists here are just depicting their daily lives through creative artistry. Also, adding most of these gangs were created for reasons not related to organized crime and our most problematic gangs were created by migrating southerners (non-Chicagoans). All of whom are dead or imprisoned. The real issue is others misunderstanding. Florida (state), California (State), New York (state), Memphis, Detroit, Saint Louis, Atlanta, etc… glorified this genre for money, but mostly notoriety (clout) without paying homage or recognizing the real issue and making it known. It has even reached to the United Kingdom. I don’t support the slaying of African Americans within our own race, but I also don’t feel bad for others misinterpreting, disrespecting our struggle and thus losing their friends, family or lives. Homicides exist everywhere in the U.S., but not in music. Now we have the worst reputation nationwide (crime wise) and it’s not even as terrible here, in comparison to others, due to the issue being addressed. It had purpose. It also seems as if this is a new issue. Homicides have been occurring here since Al Capone lived here (early 1900s). Which contradicts the idea that it is a minority issue, as well.
I don’t feel bad for Kanye struggling with dating. He is wealthy and others do not frown upon him because of this. This allows him to date interracially at free will and as a southerner, “Chicagoan” and California resident, he should have known that it is uncommon in all those places due to them being strategically segregated. Also, racism is something all three of those places struggles with greatly due to lack of integration. He neglects all listed struggles while having a major mainstream influence due to this city’s rappers.
[In short, we don’t want attention for these things like others. We would just like for others to recognize that we opened a significant amount of doors for others while having the name of the world’s most influential and prolific city’s tarnished in pursuit of others’ success. You will never be as successful as us in the long run, but for now. I felt I need to speak on these issues…to myself. Fear what you don’t know.]
If you think Chicago hasn’t given every city in the world everything they have and will continue to introduce everything they will aspire for. You are TRIPPIN.
- MH (2023)
