Cagliari, al via il Carnevale tradizionale cagliaritano 2023. Dopo due anni di stop, “Sa ratantira casteddaia”, affiancata dalle altre due storiche associazioni “ACS Senza confini Rione Marina” e “Comitato quartiere Villaggio pescatori”, con il sostegno del comune del Comune, tornano a organizzare il Carnevale tradizionale cagliaritano, per riportare nelle strade e nelle piazze cittadine le sfilate di maschere e le “ratantire”. “Quello di questo 2023 sarà un Carnevale speciale che saprà davvero coinvolgere tutti, grandi e piccoli”, ha rimarcato l'assessore alle Attività produttive e Turismo Alessandro Sorgia. Si Comincia dunque giovedì 16 febbraio. Con partenza alle ore 16.30 dalla piazza Indipendenza in Castello, la sfilata denominata “Quartieri storici” attraverserà Villanova, Marina e successivamente Stampace. Domenica 19, con partenza alle ore 17.30 dal corso Vittorio Emanuele II, sarà in programma la sfilata “Carnevale in famiglia”, che toccherà le centralissime via Manno, via Regina margherita, via Roma e largo Carlo Felice. Martedì 21, con partenza dalla piazza Giovanni XXIII alle ore 17, il corteo sfilerà per le vie Dante, Paoli, Sonnino, Alghero, Garibaldi e Manno, per terminare in via Santa Margherita dove verrà eseguito il rogo di Re Canciofali. “Saranno ospiti i gruppi associazione “Tuvumannu” e “Viking group”, anche loro con le proprie ratantire”, ha spiegato Omar Lecca di “Sa ratantira casteddaia”. Sempre nella giornata di martedì 21 febbraio nella piazza Del Carmine, organizzata dall'associazione “Alr@rte”, manifestazioni a partire dalle 9 del mattino: mascotte World Disney, spazio musicale con dj animatore e festa in maschera con zeppolata. Al pomeriggio, dalle 16, parata di mascotte World Disney, animazione con danza, musica, spazio trucca bimbi, racconto fiabe e ancora zeppole per tutti. Ma la piazza Del Carmine si animerà dal pomeriggio di giovedì 16. L'associazione “Locanda latina”, sino al 18 febbraio organizza infatti “Birrande – Carneval beer edition”, con musica intrattenimento e buon cibo. Per la giornata di sabato 18 l'associazione “Strada facendo” propone invece “Dulcis in fundo”: dalle ore 16 alle ore 21 i clienti che entreranno in uno dei 63 negozi aderenti di via Manno e via Garibaldi potranno assaporare gratuitamente qualche buona zeppola; dalle ore 19 alle ore 21 tanti personaggi cartoon e ancora zeppole. Variegato anche il programma di “Su carrasciali pirresu”, domenica 19, martedì 21 e domenica 26 febbraio. Organizzata dalla compagnia “Il crogiuolo”, “questa manifestazione rappresenta un momento davvero importante di comunità, un momento di felicità”. Ma anche di “riappropriazione dell'identità”, ha detto Maria Laura Manca, presidente della Municipalità di Pirri. E domenica 26 febbraio quindicesima edizione di Vespiglia. Dalle 11 in via Azuni. Pompeo Molmenti - Pia de' Tolomei Being Led to Maremma - 1853

Pia de' Tolomei was an Italian noblewoman from Siena.

According to a tradition recorded by early commentators on Dante's Divine Comedy, she can be identified as the 'Pia' mentioned in Canto V of Purgatory, where Dante and Virgil meet those were penitent at the time of their sudden violent deaths – her tale follows that of Bonconte da Montefeltro. She states that she came from Siena and was killed by her husband in the Maremma:

Do thou remember me who am the Pia; Siena made me, unmade me Maremma; He knoweth it, who had encircled first, Espousing me, my finger with his gem.

She refers bitterly to her murderer for his disregard of his marital vows to her and briefly tells Dante her story. She asks the poet – once he has rested from his long journey – to remember her among the living and thus speed her journey through Purgatory. Dante uses the name 'la Pia' not 'Pia', underlining the familiarity between them. She also asks him to pray for her since she knows none of her family do so.

The identification of this 'Pia' with Pia de' Tolomei is now almost universally accepted, although conclusive documentary proof of this has yet to be found. Early commentators on the poem noted that she was to be identified as a woman of the Tolomei family in Siena, wife of Nello dei Pannocchieschi, lord of Castel di Pietra in Maremma, podestà of Volterra and Lucca, captain of the Guelph Taglia from 1284 and alive until at least 1322 (the year he made his will). There is also a surviving record of his second marriage, as a widower, to Margherita Aldobrandeschi, countess of Sovana and Pitigliano. They had one son, Binduccio or Bindoccio, who was murdered, aged thirteen, when Orsini assassins, threw him down a well in Massa Marittima.

The surviving archives do not name Nello's first wife, but she has been identified as Pia. Nello owned Castel di Pietra in Maremma, where it has been suggested he murdered Pia in 1297, either after she found out he was having an affair with Aldobrandeschi or to clear the way for his second marriage. Among the early commentators, Jacopo della Lana, l'Ottimo and Francesco di Bartolo claim that she may have been killed for some crime, while Benvenuto and an anonymous Florentine of the 14th century assert it was due to her husband's jealousy.

Against this identification, the Tolomei family had no daughters or nieces named Pia in Nello's time. However, one male of the family did marry a woman named Pia Malavolti – the marriage did not last long (she had many lovers) and so the Tolomei decided to have Nello, the head of the family, remove her to Maremma, where she died in misery, possibly murdered. A closely related theory is that Pia was born a Malvoti and entered the Tolomei family by her marriage to Baldo d'Aldobrandino de' Tolomei. According to this story, Pia was accused of adultery by her husband, then kidnapped by Nello and taken to Maremma, where she died.

Pompeo Marino Molmenti (8 November 1819, Villanova in Motta di Livenza – 17 December 1894, Venice) was an Italian painter.

He was born in Friuli to Francesco Molmenti, an engineer of comfortable means, who had followed his older brother, Ettore, to Venice. When he was orphaned as a boy, Pompeo was cared for by his uncle Ettore, who encouraged his studies. In 1834, he was enrolled in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia to study under Ludovico Lipparini, Odorico Politi, and Michelangelo Grigoletti. As a student he painted a Murder of Caesar.

One of his early patrons was Count Spiridione Papadopoli (1799-1859) and his wife, Teresa Mosconi, who owned a villa in Villanova, not far from Molmenti's birthplace. As a young man, he had painted a Death of Othello for the Papadopoli family. A second version was completed in 1866. During 1835 to 1840, Molmenti painted a Madonna and child for a lunette at the private oratory of the Papadopolis, which recalled the Renaissance Madonna Giovanelli of Giovanni Bellini. He painted a Santa Teresa (now lost) for the countess, and a San Paolo (destroyed) for the church of San Polo di Piave.

From 1843 to 1844, he accompanied the Duke Saverio di Blancas on a trip through Syria and Greece. During this time he drew many Arab subjects, and painted The Departure of Tobias with Rachel from the House of Laban for his patron Count Papadopoli and Sara gives Agar as wife to Abraham. He then traveled to Florence, Rome, Paris, and Munich. During 1848-1849, he participated in some of the patriotic uprisings.

In 1850, he displayed three paintings: Cimabue discovers in Giotto the Genius of Painting (now lost), a Holy Family copied from the Raphael painting Madonna della seggiola, and a Virgin and child and a St Ursula for the church of Sant'Orsola of Conegliano, now displayed in the duomo. He painted an Immaculate Conception for Malo near Vicenza; a Martyrdom of Santa Filomena for Vidor; a San Rocco for a church of Palmanova; and Jesus gives the key to St Peter for Fontanelle.

In 1851, he became professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Venice and worked alongside Pietro Selvatico to reform the institution. Among his pupils were Antonio Beni, Giacomo Favretto, Luigi Nono, Bressanesi, Luigi Pastega, Egisto Lancerotto, Tranquillo Cremona, Napoleone Nani, Silvio Rotta and Ettore Tito.[6] He was knighted for the Order of the Crown of Italy.

In 1853 he exhibited a painting on the subject of Pia de' Tolomei, commissioned by the architect Count Giacomo Franco [ and now in the Museo Civico di Castelvecchio. He also painted an Arrest of Filippo Calendario (1854) commissioned by Princess Giovanelli.

Found in its original plain binding of parchment, this work was most likely compiled by a practitioner of alchemy and medicine. Containing a handwritten copy of Liber lucis by John of Rupescissa (Johannes de Rupescissa) which contains a recipe for the philosopher's stone. Also includes alchemical notes and extracts from Turba philosophorium by Giovanni Agostino Panteo, Voarchadumia contra alchimiam attributed to Pseudo-Geber (Jābir ibn Hayyān), Summa perfectionis magisterii, the redaction of Secretum secretorum by Roger Bacon, and Rosarius philosophorum ascribed to Arnold of Villanova.

Dankira and its Saints

When I heard of Dankira ended its service yesterday, I think it's about time for them to show their feast days in this latest installment to commemorate this occasion. So here it is.

August 20 - Sora Asahi

St. Bernard of Clairvaux: 12th century French abbot and confessor, and a major leader in the revitalization of Benedictine monasticism through the nascent Order of Cistercians. There he preached an immediate faith, in which the intercessor was the Virgin Mary. In 1139, Bernard assisted at the Second Council of the Lateran. He subsequently denounced the teachings of Peter Abelard to the pope, who called a council at Sens in 1141 to settle the matter. Bernard was the first Cistercian placed on the calendar of saints, and was canonized by Pope Alexander III in 1174, and Pope Pius VIII bestowed Bernard the title of Doctor of the Church. His major shrine can be found in Troyes Cathedral.

March 20 - Mahiru Hinata

St. John Nepomucene (John of Nepomuk): 14th century priest and martyr who was drowned in the Vltava river at the behest of Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia (Czech Republic). Later accounts state that he was the confessor of the queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. On the basis of this account, John of Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a patron against defamation and, because of the manner of his death, a protector from floods and drowning. He is the patron saint of the Spanish Naval Infantry.

November 24 - Reiji Yano

The Vietnamese Martyrs: The Vatican estimates the number of Vietnamese martyrs at between 130,000 and 300,000. Pope St. John Paul II decided to canonize those whose names are known and unknown, giving them a single feast day. One of the most prominent person of the group is Andrew Dũng-Lạc, who was born to a peasant family and is ordained a priest in 1823. Many years later in 1998, he and the rest of the martyrs were canonized by Pope St. John Paul II. Among the number of the martyrs, there were 97 Vietnamese, 11 Dominican missionaries from Spain, and 10 French belonged to the Paris Foreign Mission Society; 59 were lay people and the rest of them are religious and or members of the clergy.

February 17 - Akira Shido

Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order: The seven holy founders consisted of Alexis Falconieri, Amadeus of the Amidei, Hugh dei Lippi Uggucioni, Benedetto dell' Antella, Gherardino di Sostegno, Buonfiglio dei Monaldi and Giovanni di Buonagiunta. On January 1888, Pope Leo XIII canonized all seven of them, and their feast was inserted in the General Roman Calendar for celebration on 11 February, the anniversary of the granting of canonical approval to the order in 1304. In the 1969 revision of the calendar, 17 February, the date of death of Alexis Falconieri was judged to be more appropriate.

December 11 - Noel Gekkoin

Pope St. Damasus I: 37th bishop of Rome who reigned for 18 years. He presided over the Council of Rome of 382 that determined the canon or official list of sacred scripture, and spoke out against major heresies in the church (including Apollinarianism and Macedonianism) and encouraged production of the Vulgate Bible with his support for Jerome. He helped reconcile the relations between the Church of Rome and the Church of Antioch, and encouraged the veneration of martyrs.

June 27 - Kei Kagemiya

Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Our Lady of Perpetual Succour): A Marian title represented in a celebrated 15th-century Byzantine icon also associated with the same Marian apparition. The icon is originated from the Keras Kardiotissas Monastery and has been in Rome since 1499, and today, it is permanently enshrined in the Church of Saint Alphonsus, where the official Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help text is prayed weekly. In 1867, Pope Pius IX granted the image its Canonical Coronation along with its present title. The Redemptorist Congregation of priests and brothers are the only religious order currently entrusted by the Holy See to protect and propagate a Marian religious work of art. Due to promotion by the Redemptorist Priests since 1865, the image has become very popular among Roman Catholics, and modern reproductions are oftentimes displayed in residential homes, commercial establishments, and public transportation.

May 12 - Seito Tsubaki

Bl. Imelda Lambertini: Italian laywoman, virgin and mystic. Her parents were devout Catholics and were known for their charity and generosity to the underprivileged of Bologna. On her fifth birthday, she requested to receive Holy Eucharist; however the custom at the time was that children did not receive their First Holy Communion until it reached the age of fourteen. On the day of the vigil of the Ascension, she knelt in prayer and the 'Light of the Host' was reportedly witnessed above her head by the Sacristan, who then fetched the priest so he could see. After seeing this miracle, the priest felt compelled to admit her to receiving the Eucharist. Immediately after receiving it, Lambertini went back to her seat, and decided to stay after mass and pray. Later when a nun came to get Lambertini for supper, she found Lambertini still kneeling with a smile on her face. The nun called her name, but she did not stir, so she lightly tapped Imelda on the shoulder, at which Imelda collapsed to the floor dead. Beatified by Pope Leo XII in 1826, she is the patroness of First Communicants.

July 20 - Soma Yagami

St. Apollinaris of Ravenna: 1st century Syrian bishop and martyr, whom the Roman Martyrology describes as 'a bishop who, according to tradition, while spreading among the nations the unsearchable riches of Christ, led his flock as a good shepherd and honored the Church of Classis near Ravenna by a glorious martyrdom.' A noted miracle worker, Apollinaris is considered especially effective against gout, venereal disease and epilepsy. His relics are at the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and the 6th century Benedictine Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, both in Ravenna and in Saint Lambert's church in Düsseldorf, Germany.

November 11 - Nozomu Miki

St. Martin of Tours: Confessor and the third bishop of Tours. One of the most familiar and recognizable Christian saints in Western tradition. Martin converted to Christianity at a young age and served in the Roman cavalry in Gaul, but left military service at some point prior to 361, when he became a disciple of Hilary of Poitiers, establishing the monastery at Ligugé. He is best known for the account of his using his military sword to cut his cloak in two, to give half to a beggar clad only in rags in the depth of winter. His shrine in Tours became a famous stopping-point for pilgrims on the road to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. He is the patron of beggars, wool-weavers and tailors, as well as the patron of the United States Army Quartermaster Corps even though he detested violence.

September 18 - Yukari Wakakusa

St. Joseph of Cupertino: Italian friar from the Conventual Franciscans, a branch of the Franciscan order. He was said to have been remarkably unclever, but prone to miraculous levitation and intense ecstatic visions that left him gaping. Canonized as saint by Pope Clement XIII in 1767, he is the patron of mental handicaps, examinations, aviation and astronauts.

June 13 - Mitsukuni Minamoto

St. Anthony of Padua: Franciscan Portuguese friar and priest who is noted by his contemporaries for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick, he was one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history. Although he is known as the patron of lost items, his major shrine can be found in Padua, Italy. In January 1946, he is proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII, and is given the title of Doctor Evangelicus (Evangelical Doctor).

April 28 - Oboro Kiriyama

St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort (Louis de Monfort): French priest and confessor, who was known in his time as a preacher and was made a missionary apostolic by Pope Clement XI. As well as preaching, he found time to write a number of books which went on to become classic Catholic titles and influenced several popes, and he is known for his particular devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the practice of praying the Rosary. He is considered as one of the early writers in the field of Mariology. His most notable works regarding Marian devotions are contained in Secret of the Rosary and True Devotion to Mary. Monfort is canonized as a saint two years after World War II under the pontificate of Pope Pius XII.

October 9 - Ageha Kurenai

St. Louis Bertrand: Spanish Dominican friar, confessor, missionary, and religious brother who is known as the 'Apostle of South America.' After his ordination by St. Thomas of Villanova, he went to South America for his missionary work. According to legend, a deadly draught was administered to him by one of the native priests. Through Divine interposition, the poison failed to accomplish its purpose. There is a town festival, called La Tomatina in Buñol, Valencia, in his honor along with Mare de Déu dels Desemparats.

April 12 - Shiki Janome

Pope St. Julius I: 35th successor of St. Peter who reigned for 15 years and is credited with splitting the birth of Christ into two distinct celebrations (Epiphany and the Nativity) as well as asserting the authority of the pope over the Arian Eastern bishops. After his death in 352 AD, he is succeeded by Pope Liberius.

January 12 - Tsukumo Busujima

St. Marguerite Bourgeoys: French nun who is known as the founder of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal in the colony of New France, now part of the province of Québec in Canada. She is also significant for developing one of the first uncloistered religious communities in the Catholic Church. She was canonized in 1982 and declared a saint by the Catholic Church, the first female saint of Canada.

January 31 - Atago Rentaro

St. John Bosco: Italian priest, educator, confessor and writer who is popularly known as 'Don Bosco' as well as the 'Father and Teacher of Youth'. While working in Turin, where the population suffered many of the ill-effects of industrialization and urbanization, he dedicated his life to the betterment and education of street children, juvenile delinquents, and other disadvantaged youth. He developed teaching methods based on love rather than punishment, a method that became known as the Salesian Preventive System. John was an ardent devotee of Mary, mother of Jesus, under the title Mary Help of Christians. He later dedicated his works to De Sales when he founded the Salesians of Don Bosco, based in Turin. He also founded the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, a religious congregation of nuns dedicated to the care and education of poor girls together with Maria Domenica Mazzarello, and he taught Dominic Savio, of whom he wrote a biography that helped the young boy be canonized.

September 6 - Habashiri Ginko

Zechariah the Prophet: He was a person that can be found in the Hebrew Bible and traditionally considered the author of the Book of Zechariah, the 11th of the Twelve Minor Prophets. He was a prophet of the Kingdom of Judah, and, like the prophet Ezekiel, was of priestly extraction. The Roman Catholic Church honors him with a feast day assigned to this date.

August 4 - Tsubaki Kento

St. John Vianney: French priest and confessor who is known as the patron saint of parish priests. He is often referred to as the 'Curé d'Ars', internationally known for his priestly and pastoral work in his parish in Ars, France, because of the radical spiritual transformation of the community and its surroundings. Catholics attribute this to his saintly life, mortification, persevering ministry in the sacrament of confession, and ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His major shrine can be found in Ars-sur-Formans.

When the guard pointed out the cell, Ros rushed over. “Rafael?” she called. “Rafael!” When she got there, he looked up at her and her blood boiled. The gashes and bruises on his face and arms were awful, and some of them fresher than others. “Cosa ti hanno fatto quei bastardi?”

“Guarda cosa dici,” the guard warned.

Ros shot a scowl over her shoulder then looked back to Rafael. “Oh, Rafael” she mumbled.

“Ros?” he asked softly. “Are you okay?” He pushed himself to standing and made his way over, a slight wince as he stepped.

She rolled her eyes. “Of course I am, sciocco,” she mumbled. “You’re the one that was thrown in here. I can’t believe this. This should be me.”

“I’m a thief, haven’t you heard?” he replied. “I stole something very valuable from Giovanni Villanova.”

Ros shook her head. “I’m the one who ran away,” she said. “I should be--”

“Burned at the stake?”

Ros scowled. “Better than being beaten and tortured for something you didn’t do!” She sighed and leaned her head against one of the bars between them. “Je souhaite que nous avions rencontré une autre manière,” she mumbled. “This never would have happened to you.”

“E io sono il sciocco,” he replied. He sighed and wrapped a hand around hers on the bar, leaning his head against hers. “I’ll be okay, Rosamunda. I promise.”

MANIFESTI PER TITO: una call speciale di Swapmuseum realizzata dai ragazzi del Ciardo Pellegrino di Lecce per il progetto "Il tango di Tito"

Il PCTO (Percorso per le Competenze Trasversali e per l’Orientamento) “Manifesti di Tito” è la prima azione della rassegna “Il tango di Tito”, progetto di Swapmuseum nato dalla collaborazione con Archivio Schipa – Carluccio, ASD BelTango Lecce, LaFabbrica – Museo delle Tabacchine di Campi Salentina, Factory Compagnia e Associazione Musicale Opera Prima, vincitore del Programma straordinario di cultura e spettacolo per l’anno 2020 della Regione Puglia.

L’obiettivo è stato quello di far avvicinare i giovani studenti al patrimonio culturale e alla figura del grande tenore leccese Tito Schipa, approfondendo aspetti meno conosciuti della sua carriera di compositore e interprete di tanghi argentini.

L’output ha visto i ragazzi reinterpretare foto storiche e spartiti originali dei tanghi di Schipa anni ’20 e ’30, messi a disposizione dall’Archivio Schipa-Carluccio, per produrre infine 14 manifesti che possano esprimere la figura del tenore in chiave contemporanea.

A raccontarci l'esperienza una narratrice d'eccezione: Benedetta Perrino.

Buongiorno baldi giovani, mi chiamo Benedetta Perrino e sono qui per raccontarvi la fantastica esperienza vissuta con Swapmuseum!

Durante lo scorso anno scolastico, assieme ai miei colleghi "grafici" della 5ªB del Liceo Artistico Ciardo Pellegrino di Lecce, ho partecipato al percorso PCTO "Manifesti per Tito". Abbiamo avuto il piacere di conoscere la tutor Elena Carluccio, la quale ha avuto il coraggio di restarci accanto fino alla fine (grande donna!).

Nei primi incontri ci è stata narrata la particolare e movimentata vita del caro Tito Schipa (che ovviamente tutti voi conoscerete). In seguito, è arrivata la parte impegnativa del progetto: creare un manifesto a lui ispirato. Ma noi “grafici” non ci arrendiamo mai (più o meno)...così, armati di computer e tanta voglia di fare, ci siamo messi a lavoro, creando delle vere e proprie opere d’arte.
