I have returned back to the faith after a lapse in my youth (was raised Antiochian Greek Orthodox from a mixed Arab Asian household) and have found such joy and comfort in your tumblr along others. I was wondering if you recommend any good audiobooks regarding learning more about one's Orthodox faith outside of church. I have a visual reading issue so audiobooks or podcasts appreciated. God bless you ❤️
A precious lamb has returned to the flock. It is meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost and is now found. Glory to God!
Some of my favorite audio and video Orthodox resources are the free audiobooks recorded in St. Anthony Orthodox Monastery in Arizona. (<- that is a clickable link) They have audiobooks in a multitude of languages: English, Greek, Russian, Arabic, and Romanian. I highly recommend the book about St. Joseph the Hesychast. He is my spiritual father’s spiritual father’s spiritual father. (lol) So he is like my spiritual great-grandfather? It’s a very interesting and lovely book, although I think the recording for it is not yet finished.
I also LOVE watching the lives of the saints as presented by Trisagion Films on YouTube! Youtube is trash so use an adblocker, BUT Trisagion Films makes great edifying content. They sketch Byzantine style drawings of the saints and scenes in their lives and animate them, adding music and narration.
One of my favorite videos from them is about the life of St. Gabriel the Fool-for-Christ. (link) He was a saint of recent times, most famous for when he burned a large portrait of Lenin during a communist rally.
They also have one for the life of Saint Porphyrios, another recent saint. The video is pretty much the summarized version of the book about him, which we read in the book club. St. Porphyrios, although blind, was a clairvoyant saint who was able to see with his spiritual eyes.
One of the priests at a monastery I frequent actually met Saint Porphyrios. He told me that Saint Porphyrios was so well aware of his surroundings, that the priest I know didn’t learn he was blind during their meeting until somebody else told him later on after they met.
If you would like, you can join Panagia’s Garden Book Club too! We would love to have you. We share Orthodox Christian books, hymns, and currently we are trying to read the Gospel of James before Christmas. Send me a message and I will send you the Discord invite link.
God bless you, dear friend. Please tell me your name so I can add you to my prayers.

How Music Can Harm You: A Talk by Freddy Kostka
Tumblr media
Music is a powerful force that can influence our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. But not all music is beneficial for us. Some music can have negative effects on our mental and physical health, especially for young people who are more vulnerable to external influences.
Freddy Kostka is a musician and speaker who has been conducting talks on the power of music since 1992. He grew up listening to rock and metal bands, but after a personal encounter with God in 1981, he changed his musical preferences and started listening to gospel music instead. He noticed how his friends who continued listening to rock music messed up their lives with drugs and other vices.
In his talks, he shows examples of how certain musicians and their songs promote harmful messages such as rebellion, violence, suicide, sexual immorality, and backward masking. He also highlights the negative and positive effects of certain types of music on young minds. He uses video and audio clips, newspaper clippings, quotes, case studies, and results of scientific research to support his claims.
Some of the topics he covers in his talks are:
How rock music can induce aggression, depression, and suicidal thoughts
How rap and hip hop music can degrade women and encourage violence and rape
How pop music can manipulate our emotions and brainwash us with subliminal messages
How classical music can enhance our cognitive abilities and creativity
How gospel music can uplift our spirits and connect us with God
Freddy Kostka’s talks are eye-opening and informative. They challenge us to think critically about the music we listen to and the impact it has on our lives. They also inspire us to choose music that is positive, uplifting, and edifying for ourselves and others.
If you are interested in learning more about Freddy Kostka’s talks, you can visit his website here. You can also watch some of his videos here and here.
Music is a gift that can enrich our lives in many ways. But we need to be careful about how we use it and what we expose ourselves to. As Freddy Kostka says, “Music is powerful. Use it wisely.”

He cautioned churches and parents in general to accept and welcome urban Gospel into their lives and homes in order to occupy the minds of their children with Christian values and principles delivered with an interesting and youthful vibe. If not, he was so sure that the church would soon lose their young ones to the worldly standards being preached through secular music today. The bandwagon of Scott Evans and his team of dancers also made a quick stop at the Kumasi Mall to give patrons a surprise pop up flash mob of the 100 Percent dance challenge which shocked most onlookers in an entertaining and edifying way. It’s no secret that Oseikrom felt the Scott Evans fever all week long till date and wouldn’t be recovering from it’s massive impact anytime soon. About 100 Percent single: “100 Percent” is available on digital streaming platforms and was produced by Konvict Music signee & Global producer Nektunez. The new single is the title-track off Cravity’s upcoming first full-length album set to release on May 26, 2023 through his own label The Outlier Agency. Written by Cravity, Redman and Quintin Trotter, the song highlights the supremacy of God in all things and serves as a gentle reminder of the fame of Jesus that will never fade away. “God is the author and finisher of faith,” explains Cravity. “We end prayers with Amen. Christ called himself the “Amen”, the faithful and true witness, the beginning and end. ‘The Last Amen’ is scripture set to melody and music.”
Tumblr media
When reflecting on his time working with two-time Grammy Award winning artist Matt Redman, the Atlanta native says, “I’ve always admired Matt Redman, his tenacity to give voice to the Believer through songs that encourage the heart and nurture the soul is legendary. This world is full of names in lights, claims to fame and we’re bombarded by brands everywhere we look – but in the end there’ll only be One name still standing, and that will be Jesus. I really hope the theme of this song resonates deeply with people.” “The Last Amen” is one of many tracks that will be found on Cravity’s forthcoming album. It’s a worship project with an acoustic theme that highlights the pillars of faith. The Last Amen will be his first full-length album release , and the first on his own label The Outlier Agency, that he launched in 2021, shortly after his departure from sixsixsteps/Capitol CMG. Bickering Between The Brothers
“Sing unto the LORD; for He hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.” Isaiah 12:5-6KJV
Singing is an important part of my life. Mother said I made melodic sounds, before I could speak words. Music is a very powerful tool for the Kingdom of God, and the kingdom of darkness.
‘Bickering’ between the brothers— aka —denominations —has become heated over Bethel Music, Hillsong, Jesus Culture, and Jesus Image— aka ‘Pentecostal emotionalism.’ With reason, I attended training, teaching ‘how to manipulate audiences for a ‘good worship experience.’ I’m totally against manipulation. Real ‘Pentecostal emotionalism’ is Holy Spirit generated, anointed and led. My belief, based upon observations, is Holy Spirit is perfectly capable of directing worship leaders’ song choices for each service.
Observation—: people from manipulated services never left those services convicted, refreshed, learned nothing about God’s Word, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12KJV. Regarding pastor’s preaching—“…How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14KJV. For God’s Word is to cut the deafness away from listeners’ ears in order for the preaching to penetrate their hearts, opening the way to salvation.
Yes, I believe anointed praise music softens hearts, plowing them up for the sowing of the seed of God’s Words. Worship involves so many avenues— i.e. Music; Giving tithes and offerings; Kneeling; Being face down before God; Spontaneous, unsolicited singing; Fasting; Sitting quietly awaiting God to speak. I’ll probably get into trouble here— rarely have I observed Sunday morning’s praise service erupting into real worship from merely three songs, lasting fifteen minutes, praise-sometimes, worship-no. Now, let me preface this with a disclaimer— unless Holy Spirit has free rein to take over and extend the praise service.
I dislike rigid control of the praise portion of the service. Why? Well, I was raised in a holiness church where at times the ‘song’ service lasted on and on until it became a worship service without preaching. Those services didn’t need altar calls, people just came to the altar. ‘Invitations’ weren’t needed. Occasionally a person would ask for deliverance prayers to overcome addictions. (OBTW the church wasn’t pentecostal, just holiness.)
After researching the source of ‘bickering’ between the brothers, I found the root was established in the Baptist’s theology which still doesn’t recognize the baptism of Holy Spirit.
Jesus prayed John 17:23KJV “…they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me, and hast loved them, as Thou hast loved Me.” When the day arrives where we become one, each denomination will realize they carry only one part of the full gospel. Now that would be a day to “Sing unto the LORD; for He hath done excellent things.”
Songs cannot be thrown out because they’ve come from Pentecostalism. Listen to the lyrics. Do they edify Jesus? Do they tell of man’s desire to be closer to God? Are they telling of the goodness and greatness of God? Are they crying out for more of the Lord? What’s wrong with that? ‘How Great Thou Art,’ ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness,’ ‘This Is My Story,’ even ‘Amazing Grace,’ ‘All Hail The Power’ were written for the same reasons.
Will you get caught up in becoming a ‘bickering brother? It’s your choice. You choose.
LET’S PRAY: Lord God, help us sing until we’re free, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

#DailyDevotion Understand What The LORD's Will Is
Tumblr media
#DailyDevotion Understand What The LORD's Will Is Eph. 5:15-21 15Be very careful, then, as to how you live. Don't be unwise but wise. 16And make the most of your opportunities because these are evil days. 17So don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord wants. 18 Don't get drunk on wine, which means wild living. But be filled with the Spirit 19as you speak psalms, hymns, and songs to one another and with your hearts sing and make music to the Lord, 20always thanking God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. These admonitions from Paul flow from the Gospel he spells out in the first couple of chapters. We should be careful how we live because we still dwell in these bodies corrupted by sin. Sin easily deceives us. Satan paves a pretty attractive path to hell. If it wasn't so attractive we wouldn't be so easily deceived. So Paul tells us to not be unwise but wise. To be wise is to focus on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is to focus on the free gift of forgiveness and why we need that forgiveness in the first place. To be wise is to focus on the grace of God in Christ Jesus and why we need it. Because Jesus is ascended to the right hand of the Father we should make the most of our opportunities because these are evil days. Despite the days being evil, Jesus intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father. The Holy Spirit is operative in the world through the world so He is at work when we have the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus. We don't always have opportunities to do that especially these days when so many people are huddled up in their homes and aren't at a lot of public gatherings. So pray for opportunities to share Jesus with people and don't be timid when you do. Paul calls us to not be foolish but understand what the LORD wants. That I believe he is describing in the following verses about getting drunk and participating in wild living. That does not bring anyone into faith in Jesus. What the LORD wants is for us to be filled with the Spirit singing and speaking psalms, hymns, and songs to one another. To be filled with the Spirit is to sing and speak such psalms, hymns and songs that are the Word of God and in particularly the Good News of Jesus. They should be about what Jesus has done for us and for all people. Note it is important that we do these to one another. We are the body of Christ. We need to hear these with one another and to one another. It is edifying for us. We should sing them from our heart. That doesn't mean we make them up on the fly but rather we mean them. They are true expressions of our faith in Jesus. There is that gratitude raising its lovely head again. Paul again to always be thanking God the Father for everything in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ. I do believe he means everything, both good and bad. For we do not know how the Father will use the bad things that happen in life for our good. God works all things for good for those who love him who have been called according to his purpose. So yes, all things and everything give thanks. Heavenly Father, give us your good Spirit that we may we wise, take opportunities as you give them, sing the praises of Jesus and give thanks to you for everything. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. For the past few weeks, we have been examining the story of scripture through the Psalms then into the Gospel accounts and finish with the original commentaries on the Gospels, the Epistles. today we look at a couple of threads - should we gather? Why do we gather? What are we commanded to do when we gather? What are we called to do as Christians? Its all there! Learning, growing, becoming the children of God He wants us to be and sharing it with the generations withing the church and the lost souls throughout the world. I hope that you enjoy the worship music and the special piece - and I hope that you find the preaching both edifying and challenging. May God bless and keep you always, and in all ways.

It births nothing short of a SWEET SOUND, and we are even more thrilled that this song is titled SUGAR MELODY! Nigerian based Afrobeat Gospel artist Same OG releases a new sound with UK based Folabi Nuel and this song is literally - sweet like sugar, yellow like fanta… lol The AfroGospel and Urban Christian community and their doggedness to keep churning out relatable and vibrant songs that lifts up the name of Jesus, is something we definitely love to see. More young Christians now have music they can relate with have their minds and thoughts edified.
