A kinda Analysis of Eberwolf and what reason they might have for joining the rebel side

Team RED, a.k.a Raine, Eberwolf, Darius, a.k.a undercover traitors who all rank top in their respective covens. We got two epsidoes surrounding Raine and how they are doing what they are doing because they hate the system and think forcing people into covens against their will is wrong. Raine has strong beliefs. With Darius no episodes are centered around him, but he has played enough of a secondary role in certain episodes that we can piece together his motivation. He was mentored by a previous Golden Guard. He had a lot of respect, admiration, love for his mentor. Like all the Grimwalkers before, his mentor eventually went against Belos and was killed. To make Darius head of the abomination coven Belos must either not remember who mentored Dairus, or believe he was trained to be 100% loyal to the Emperor. One more thing Belos is wrong about.

Now we have Eberwolf. We do not really know much about Eberowolf. Is Eberwolf a bipedal demon or a best demon? What does Eberwolf’s language of grunts mean? What is Eberwolfs backstory and reason for doing what Eberwolf is doing? What is Eberwolf’s gender/pro-nouns? We really do not know. Now any definitive answer to any of these will probably come in the form of quick short sentence answers/translations from Raine/Darius to questions Eda/Luz asks regarding Eber, as they all race to fight the day of unity. Until we get that I want to make some theories based on what we have of Eberwolf already

So the beast keeping coven flag and sigil is of Eberwolf and these high-bread chicken pig things But in the field Eberwolf seems to commonly employ another type of Beast: ratworms.

Maybe Eberwolf lives on a farm or a ranch and has herds of different beasts. That would certainly make sense for the head of the beast keeping coven. But lets focus on Eber’s Ratworms for now. The one on top came with Eberwolf to a televised event, to represent the track. It is small, pudgy, has large red eyes, but is honestly cute to look at. Join the Beast keeping coven you will get to ride and work with cute and awesome beast like this one...right?... Well let’s look at the one bellow, that came with Eberwolf on an actual mission. It’s scared up, blind in one eye, has a broken tooth and is missing a chunk of ear. Poor thing has seen some really bad times.

Who did this to the poor beast? Another ratworm? No. Rats are incredibly social animals and generally act buddy buddy inside the pack. I cannot imagine worms exhibiting this amount of competitive hostility towards one another either. And even if you want to argue with me that these high-bread fusions may exhibit more aggression and territorial behavior than either of its human world counterparts, those are not teeth marks on its skin. How would another ratworm be able to cut it up like this without claws or hands capable of wielding a blade? It wasn’t another ratworm.

Did Eberwolf do this? Did Eberwolf beat and scar the beasts in an effort to assert themselves as Alpha and force the lower beasts to do their bidding? No. In Keeping up A Fearences we get our first look at beast keeping through Gwendolyn Clawthorne. We see that gaining control/aid of the creatures does not involve any kind of aggression or a fight. There are simple spells to alert them and bring them to your side. Also if the fact this one is wearing a collar is not enough to convince you of Eber and its relationship, then take a look at this...

Eberwolf wasn’t caught by Raine and Eda’s doom song. They purposely ran into it to try an dig their pet out. Eberwolf loves these beasts more than their own life. They would not hurt any of them like that.

You know who that poor ratworm’s scars look likes? Hunter’s.

And after hallow minds I am no longer holding onto any illusion of a belief that any of Hunter’s scars are from training accidents, standing to close to the crossfire, or mixing things up with criminals. They all come from Belos.

Belos who is a puritan witch hunter and regards all life on the boiling isles as vile, unworthy, and needing to be purged. Belos who has killed countless beings with human faces. Belos who has killed, recreated, then re-killed his own brother/nephews countless times. If he can do all that, then it is no stretch at all to believe that he would maim or purposely endanger demons. Of course someone like Eberwolf, who see’s such value in these creatures and has so much love for them (again they raced to potential death to try and help their pet) would hate that and be opposed to all of this. But if Eberwolf tried to fight Belos openly and directly they would lose, become petrified, and then there would be be no one left to protect their beasts. Eberwolf may be animalistic but as we have seen they are capable of reason, schemes, sticking to a plan, and playing the long game; as any secret rebel would have to be. I am sure they want to save the isles beast from Belos’s hate, but they are smart enough to do it right. To get in close, act subtle, find others like them, and form a plan for when the time is right...

I mostly wrote this because whenever I got into Eberwolf’s tag I either get discourse over what their gender/pronouns are (LOL) or it’s actually full of posts that are more about Raine, Raeda, or Darius. Do not get me wrong, all three are awesome and I love them. But Eberwolf is awesome too and deserves more love. Final theory Eda is a rebel because she does not like being controlled. Raine is a rebel because of their beliefs. Darius is a rebel in memory of a fallen loved one. Eberwolf is a rebel to protect the pets/beasts they love and do not want to see be abused/brought to a end.

Oh and I've noticed it's quite poplar within the Fandom to separate Hattie and Alistair so Hattie is soft and Goofy while Alistair is....Alistair. Which I very much like and am amused by.

However, after seeing the movie my brain just kinda mashed them together. I've always embraced the Goofy but slightly evil (or just very morally grey) side of Hatbox so I guess it was easier for me to just mash both incarnations of the character then for people who strictly consider Hattie to be kind hearted.

I rather like both. Both is good.

i understand you perfectly!! i think maybe some people have less coordination to catch the bouncy ball brain that can happen when someone's excited and passionate abt smthn is maybe why others have said they have trouble understanding what you mean sometimes? but it made perfect sense to me and YHHEEESS!!!!! thinking of a very scared little snakey boy crying hysterically over a duck flapping at him is so sad but also. too funny im so sorry yakumo. grandma and grandpa have their work cut out for them to not only raise a semi feral child but whatever yard birds they have keep trying to fight and there's only so much you can do while holding a long and terrified child on your hip who may or may not understand the common language at this point!! child yakumo is FASCINATING and i want to know so much more about what they had to deal with, like the only humanity he's ever known was 1) cave murals for him to base his DIY human form and 2) fuckers both small and adult size terrorizing him in the cave

personally! i like the idea that even after operation cave adoption yakumo was pretty immediately in fawn mode and probably had a very deep understanding of behavior that gets smiles and soft touches vs behavior that gets loud and angry (like most full ass human children do) but like? what if he had a biting streak like a lot of other full ass human children do? is it just instinct? does he have fangs?????? (i say yes but im a monsterlover first human third) i also think it would be funny and also sweet if the chickens are PISSED at a snake coming into their yard and their hutch but wait! snake has corn? corn? corn? corn? this snake can stay. i think little yakumo should get to hug a chicken!!! they're very friendly and like people and many of them like to be pet and snuggled it's his right as a country boy to show up at his grandparents and have many excited birds running to see him. ladies LOVE this guy

also grampa harvesting(?? is that the word. collecting. idk) eggs and yakumo helping for the first time and he's like "look :) this is an egg for us to eat. it's how the chickens say thank you for giving them a house :)" and baby yaks just. holds egg every carefully. eyes big with wonder. places a raw ass unwashed still has some straw on it egg into his mouth and swallows it whole. grampa watches his jaw pop in and out of place. grampa needs a smoke after this one. stories to tell eiden while looking at the baby pictures when yakumo is in the bathroom. he comes back to the main room and eidens like "aww yakumo why didn't you tell me you solved your grandparents mouse problem within the first month of you staying here 🥺 that's so sweet" "mmhmm mmhmm. he just slurped them up like spaghetti and i only fainted twice seeing the tail hanging out of his mouth" (yakumo is so embarrassed he levels the entire klein continent)

AND AND speaking of small animals and me having 0 memory of canon did bring it up i DESPERATELY want to know how topper felt the first time he had to meet yakumo. did he get super poofy and do the weasel war dance because predator with essence close to Quincy range? or did he just scamper into the kitchen one day and tug on the hem of yakumos pants like "excuse me papá said you would make me a sandwich" bc we know they can understand each other and that topper is a chill little guy, but just how smooth was the first interaction!!!

i also! feel like i am a bit incomprehensible here ahaha. i think a lot of it is the excitement, and my very scattered attention span and energy levels. we are playing intellectual racquetball. but you are very understandable to me and very funny and very kind! thank you for appreciating the creatureness of yaks and giving him lots of thought and love and chickens. and for allowing me to put this long ass ask in your box 🩷🐟

DO SNAKES MOUTH ON THINGS? like, gnaw on things with their gummy litl mouths to figure out the world? i know they usually use their tongue to investigate but the image of a baby snake... who doesn't know that a certain food item is too big for them... so they keep trying to eat it from diff angles. but it's not working and tehy're not venomous so their only weapon is to squeeze something , which is not helpful in subduing the stationary giant food item but i guess this is the point where they try to figure out how to unhinge their jaw properly (technique is important!!) so. i guess they succeed in the end? How big is too big for an unhinged snake jaw?? child yakumo pouting because he can't eat an entire pampo in one bite? 😅

-desperately necessary visual: yakumo and eiden pulling up to the ol' farm in their carriage. they disembark. eiden spots the ladies (hens) running from the horizon. the chickens keep comin'. some are HAULING FEATHERY ASS. some are more casual trotters. eiden starts to recognise the speed demons in the flock (he will name them and narrate a race in his head every time they visit). yakumo is surprised they recognise him, even tho they do this EVERY TIME he visits. he promptly gives them snacks from his stash.

re: topper... i'd guess that since topper met yakumo post-eiden, he wouldn't register yaku as a threat. yaku has chilled out by that point, and always smells like tasty human food. WAS THERE A CANONICAL MOMENT ALREADY DISCLOSED WHERE TOPPER MET YAKUMO FOR THE FIRST TIME??? I DO NOT KNOW. topper just seems abnormally chill and friendly sooo I shall guess that topper would survey the vibes of yakumo and go "that seems like. a quiet fella. smells like meat. will he give me treats? paPA, does he provide treats???" quincy: idk go ask topper: NOICE (hops off to investigate yakumo's treat quotient) so drama-free. finally someone who speaks your language. both squeaks AND food 🥰
