DanganWLWeek 2023 Day five: A Body Has Been Discovered!
Peko ‘discovering’ Mahiru’s body! I feel like either there was so much going through Peko head in that moment, or she didn’t feel anything and that was really freaky for her.

I know you said u dont count the anime as real and dont like it (fair), but whats ur opinion on the way it hints at (esp in Komaeda’s OVA) that he wants to be close friends with Souda and Kuzuryu in particular out of all the ultimates??
Komaeda's friend choice is actually one of the aspects that I find more interesting in DR2.5! And I sorta answered this in a previous ask:
Tumblr media
As I said in the screenshot, to me, the DR2.5 paints Komaeda as someone who refuses (or at least, want to refuse) the entire ideology of talent, (which is interesting considering the fact that he broke out of the simulation precisely by using his talent,) I guess it's a way to say "Komaeda values his friends more than talent"...?
Both Kuzuryu and Soda have a weird relationship with their talent, I think.
Kuzuryu's talent is kind of similar to Sonia's talent in that they are both inheriting a title, except Sonia accepts her role as a princess and succeeds in fulfilling that role (for the most part, she has her own little quirk but that's besides the point), whereas Kuzuryu has a hard time conform to the expectations his family is imposing onto him. This brings the question: What exactly makes him the Ultimate Yakuza? We never get to see this babyface freckle boy do anything Yakuza-ish except for the self-mutilation attempt, which is definitely not Yakuza's main job. For the most part, Kuzuryu seems to me like a regular edgy boy with a good heart, if you don’t tell me he is given the title of Ultimate Yakuza, I will not know that just by playing the main story (after chapter 2).
This brings me back to the question I rose earlier, and here’s my answer: To me, and this is really a personal opinion, I think these kinda ultimate titles (Yakuza, Princess) probably came from a more pragmatic and administrative side of Hope's Peak — the institution need money for their research facility, so they give out these titles to people who want clout for their children and have the capital to pay for it. Kuzuryu might not be the baddest toughest cruelest Yakuza who squeezes the most money out of civilians’ pocket, but he sure is the son of that Yakuza. Let alone his little sister — the Ultimate Little Sister, like, c’mon, that is not a real talent. (This fact is taken directly from Kuzuryu’s lines in SDR2 and I don’t care what DR3 has to say about it.)
Now, if you’re still following me, I want to propose that Komaeda in 2.5, who I think disagrees with Hope’s Peak’s ideology of Talent, chose to befriend Kuzuryu because this blond babyface is the living manifestation of this flimsy side of Hope’s Peak’s Talent ideology. DR2.5 Komaeda prefers to stay talentless, so he bonded with someone whose personality is not dictated by their talent, but rather his relationship with his friends (Peko, Hajime, etc.).
Soda's relationship with talent is also an atypical one, in a way that’s not like Kuzuryu’s. See, because most Ultimates’ personality kinda revolves around their talent (Ibuki who breathes death metal, Nidai who is the definition of a macho man), Soda stands out as the “normal” one. You can see from how constantly he draws himself to Hinata (another “normal” person), that despite his very distinct visuals, his personality does not showcase his quirk. He likes cute girls, he enjoys mecha, he has a not-so-secret crush on the prettiest girl in the class… He is a lot like Hinata — just happens to be really really good at building robots and rockets (and love doing it too).
So I think it is only natural for 2.5 Komaeda, who considers himself to be ordinary, to want to befriend with someone who is also acting quite ordinary for his age.
OR
Kodaka was too lazy to flesh out any other characters so he picked the two who lived the longest and are easiest for him to write to be our pretty boy’s sidekicks so that he doesnt have to think of anything new and interesting.
Anyway thanks for the ask I love you very much mwah

Title~mad hatter.
yandere!Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu x reader (she/her pronouns)
Summary-this takes place before the remnants of despair was put in the simulation , basically before the simulation you and fuyuhiko was much closer . You guys had history that goes far back . (U/t- your ultimate talent )
TW!⚠️⚠️(this is before junko dies . This was when the remnants were causing chaos. Cussing , death , reader being so uninterested in all of these 😭. Just kinda of sum fuck up stuff use of weapons like guns n swords 🧍🏽‍♀️ reader and fuyuhiko being consumed by despair. )
A/N- before I get into this , I want too say I literally tried too write something that’s not as bad as what the remnants of despair did in the show/what I read , like they was literally on sum crazy shit y’all 😭 I’m just trying too make this as water down as possible but still trying too keep that topic their yk?😭
Tumblr media
———————————————————————
“You hear that y/n?” I snap out my thoughts. I eventually look where fuyuhiko is looking. I look out a big window looking down on the streets with people running away from despair , “ah, the screams of despair. That feeling. They know their going too die yet they fight back so hard . Too bad their last moments is filled with that feeling.” I say resting my head on my hand looking at the sight unfold before me . “Well. That’s what they get for thinking they can survive despair. “ Fuyuhiko laughs . “Fucking dumb asses “ he looks away in disgust. “ they should just give in . Instead of having hope . “ he finishes his sentence then rolling his eyes in disgust. “Well what do you say y/n , why don’t we go encourage their despair a little “ Fuyuhiko looks at me and chuckles . I eventually look away from the window and look at him , “I guess. “ I say giving little interest in this feeling of despair, “oh cmon , you the U/t doesn’t want too go inflect some despair on people. You don’t wanna crush their hope with despair?” He says looking at me then back at peko who was ready for what ever . “I guess your right . Let’s go crush some hope. “ I say getting up and eventually all of us grabbing our weapons, making our way too the streets.
As we make it on the street , people are trying too fight back the other people with monokuma masks killing them one by one . “These losers are so boring. They are just killing them in a lame way . “ I say uninterested in their killing styles . “Well let’s spice it up . “ fuyuhiko says as he cocking his gun eventually I follow suit cocking my uzi (y’all Ik know nothing about guns😭) eventually peko follows suit and pulls out her sword and we run into battle.
“Please i have a wife! " the man says laying in the street begging for his life , what a lame reason. “Well . Soon all she will feel is despair. And soon you will too . “ I say shooting him . Eventually we regroup. “This is boring .let’s just leave the rest of these lames too the others. “ I say still uninterested, “yeah this got boring fast . These people just kept begging for their lives . I know they felt so much despair in their last moments. “ Fuyuhiko chuckles . Peko walks ahead of us into the tall buliding . As me and fuyuhiko hold hands following behind her. Even tho we were both filed with despair . We still loved each other .
———————————————————————
A/N - yall I hope this wasn’t too dark ! But in the game / show and from what I read the remnants of despair was literally on sum wild shit😭 so I tried too water down some of the stuff they did as much as possible .

requests are open omg!! i really love ur writing, could i request peko, kyoko, and nagito with an air headed gender neutral s/o? feel free to ignore!
Of course, my beloved anon! It's the time I finally get back to work <3
Tumblr media
Peko is constantly chasing after you
Sometimes you're too lost in thought you don't even realise you are in danger
Peko won't hesitate to step in and do her "duty" to protect you
She gets worried and doesn't get why are you so carefree, but wants to be more like you
It's hard but you find a way to get her spend some quality time with you since she can't say no to you
She wants to be chill like you and just enjoy the moment with you
She is still ready to draw her blade then hold your hand and get you out of here if she senses any danger though. It's never bad to be cautious
She just makes sure nobody harms you.
Doesn't mind repeating stuff for you. <3
Tumblr media
To this day, she questions how she fell for you...
You guys are just opposites. Share nothing in common
Kyoko is very rational and never gets possessed by her thoughts, but you are obviously different
And that's what she loves about you, she doesn't have to worry about other stuff when she is with you
She can just relax and enjoy those peaceful rare moments
Sometimes it's a bit bothersome to repeat things for you to finally hear, so she just crosses her arms and waits for you
"Are you done?" "Yes, what were we talking about again?"
Just pay more attention so she doesn't dump you </3 (she isn't anytime soon)
Tumblr media
As soon as he saw how carefree you were, Nagito didn't waste a minute to join you
His brain itself is never quiet, so he feels a bit at ease with you
He relates to you a lot and enjoys being around you in general
Also he's pretty much interested in what you're interested!! Even if some people say you're interested in unimportant stuff
There are few times Nagito casually opens up to you and you're staring at the clouds the whole time, and you missed pretty much everything he said by the time he stopped talking
"So S/O, what do you think?" "This one kinda looks like your hair..." "O-oh...So you were spacing out again... I'll just laugh awkwardly. Ahh...hahahahahah..."
Seriously tho, even though he understands you, he gets a bit offended and thinks you don't want to listen to him sometimes
Let him know how much you appreciate him </3
Omg this took almost forever. If this wasn't what you meant, then I am sorry I am not really experienced with this topic!
Anywayyy, hope you enjoy it 💕 Also no more Kaede sprites, Kaede sprites will only be used when I am answering an ask from now on. I love you all! <3

Non-despair AU! And ever since I watched that thirty minute anime clip with Nagito’s perspective on things, I’ve really liked the idea of him being buds with Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko. And Nagito openly talks about his past trauma on a plane so… what better way to bond than bonding over trauma? Anyway, I love these three so much. Also Komahina because I love them - Circle
(Also forgot to add this, sorry, but it’s on AO3 too) https://archiveofourown.org/works/33483538
Warning: descriptions of panic attacks, nausea, motion sickness, very mild vomiting (like barely any).
Fuyuhiko always thought Nagito was spouting a whole load of bullshit when he lamented about his talent being useless; he would’ve loved having Ultimate Luck right now.
“Haha! You got the short straw, Fuyuhiko!” Akane crowed. “Tough luck!”
“Wait, no! Can’t we do a best of three?”
“Somebody has to sit with them, man,” Nekomaru said. “You guys are already friends, it’ll be a great bonding experience.”
“I don’t want to bond with them in that situation. Because you all know it’ll be a shit show. That’s why we’re fucking doing this,” Fuyuhiko growled, glaring at each of his classmates in turn. Only two were missing, the pair who’d triggered this whole unfortunate drawing of straws in the first place.
“Why can’t you sit with them, Hajime? Nagito is always hanging off you anyway. And Kazuichi is your friend too,” Fuyuhiko said.
“I’m afraid I can’t, Fuyuhiko.”
“Why the fuck not?”
“Because I didn’t draw the short straw.”
“Go fuck yourself.” Fuyuhiko stomped away, his classmates’ laughter echoing behind him. This class trip was already more trouble than it was worth and it hadn’t even started. He was almost tempted to skip the plane journey with the rest of them and hop on a different flight to Novoselic, just to show them. It wasn’t like he needed Sonia to pay his way. But she’d been so enthusiastic about taking her friends to see her home country, and Fuyuhiko couldn’t think of any way to tell her without causing offence. He couldn’t really say he just didn’t want to be stuck babysitting Kazuichi and Nagito on a flight.
It wasn’t that Fuyuhiko didn’t like Kazuichi and Nagito. Sure, Kazuichi could be a real pain in the ass sometimes, and Nagito would go all weird and self-deprecating if you didn’t watch out, but Fuyuhiko still considered them close friends. But the flight to Novoselic was long. Kazuichi could get motion sickness on a fucking bicycle, and Nagito hadn’t set foot on a plane since his parents died on one right in front of his eyes. There was no way it could possibly go well. Fuyuhiko pictured hour after hour of Kazuichi puking and complaining and Nagito… well, he wasn’t sure what the hell Nagito would do. He’d never seen Nagito get flustered before. Hell, that was much more terrifying. He had to get out of this.
In the days before the trip, Fuyuhiko kept trying to convince his kinder classmates to take responsibility for at least one of the other men. “It’s gonna be impossible to help them both,” Fuyuhiko said. “It’ll be better for them if you help me.”
“You could sit between them,” Mahiru said. “And I’ve already promised Hiyoko I’ll sit with her. Sorry.”
Asking Twogami was a no-go too. “It’ll be more considerate to the other passengers if they’re both in one area,” he said. “To limit the disturbance if they become distressed.”
“I’m the one who’ll be feeling fucking distressed,” Fuyuhiko snapped.
Peko overheard, and came over at once. “I’ll take your burden, young master.”
“No, not you!” Fuyuhiko hated the whine in his tone - and he hated the smirk on Twogami’s face too. “You don’t have to do it. You sit with Gundham and pet his hamsters or something. I… I want you to be happy,” he mumbled, blushing fiercely.
Damn it. He could be as bad as Kazuichi sometimes.
There was no way to wriggle out of it. The morning of the trip dawned bright and sunny, and Fuyuhiko’s ticket set him directly between Kazuichi and Nagito. Fantastic.
At least check-in and security went by reasonably peacefully, the walk to their gate quiet. Only Akane and Nekomaru seemed to be properly awake this early in the day, and they stuck with each other. Fuyuhiko glanced at his two friends. Kazuichi still seemed half-asleep, curled on one of the uncomfortable chairs by the gate, watching the planes take off and land in the distance through the huge windows. Nagito was much more concerning. He was smiling brightly… but he didn’t look happy at all.
“Hey, Fuyuhiko, want to know how a plane engine works?” Kazuichi asked.
“No,” he said, but he sat down with a sigh as Kazuichi started talking anyway. He tuned out after a second, though Nagito looked like he was listening.
“Seeing you talk about your ultimate talent is so inspiring, Kazuichi,” Nagito said - and smiled. That weird smile again, desperate and strained.
“It’s nothing. I just think planes are interesting. From an engineering point of view. I really wish I didn’t have to fucking ride one,” Kazuichi groaned.
“Aha, I can’t help feeling apprehensive too. The last time I was on a flight, both my parents died.” Nagito spoke emotionlessly, as if reciting a shopping list, but that smile was still fixed on his face. “But it’s okay. That bad luck brought me a lot of good luck later on. You just have to have hope that things will work out.”
Kazuichi stared at him, mouth open. “Um. Okay. Sorry.” He caught Fuyuhiko’s eye and mouthed what the fuck? Fuyuhiko wasn’t sure if Kazuichi was just now hearing the story or if he was confused by Nagito’s weird behaviour. He shrugged helplessly.
There wasn’t much conversation after that. You couldn’t really carry on your casual chit-chat right after somebody brought up their dead parents. Fuyuhiko kept an eye on Nagito. He was bolt upright in his seat, his eyes staring straight ahead, hands clasped so tight in his lap his knuckles bleached white. With his pale hair and ashen face, he looked like all the blood had drained out of him completely.
Their flight number was called far too soon, and Fuyuhiko dragged his motley crew to the right aisle, pondering where to put everyone. Kazuichi should probably be on the end if he’d be passing vomit bags to some poor stewardess. Fuyuhiko needed to be in the middle, so that left Nagito by the window. He’d have to keep the shutter pulled down.
Hajime passed them on the way to his own seat, and stopped short when he saw Nagito’s face. He leaned right over Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko, ignoring their complaints and curses, and took Nagito’s hand. “Are you alright? You look… off.”
“Don’t worry about me, Hajime.”
“Your hands are clammy.”
“Ah, I’m sorry. How disgusting for you,” Nagito said, smiling. Always smiling.
“That’s not what I meant… Look, do you want to sit with me?”
“Can we move it along please?” somebody called irritably down the aisle.
“You’re holding up the line, Hajime. Don’t worry about me,” Nagito repeated. Hajime looked like he was worrying dreadfully, but he was forced to move along. Nagito clasped his hands again and fixed his gaze on the seat in front, smiling smiling smiling. It was freaking Fuyuhiko out. He looked like he was wearing a mask and his eyes were the only real part of him, swirling with turmoil.
“Hey.” Kazuichi nudged Fuyuhiko’s shoulder and whispered in his ear. “Are Hajime and Nagito… you know. A thing?”
“Mate, you told me you’ve seen them leave Hajime’s cabin together in the mornings.”
“They could just be having a sleepover. As bros.”
“I don’t think it’s that, Kazuichi.”
“Are you sure? ‘Cause I don’t want Hajime to get a new best friend,” Kazuichi said.
Fuyuhiko sighed. “I think you’re safe.”
There was a pause. Then another shoulder nudge a second later. “So Hajime and Nagito? Seriously? Am I the only person on my own in this class?” Kazuichi muttered.
Fuyuhiko was spared from responding by the flight attendants starting the safety briefing, demonstrating how to use the oxygen masks and the life jackets in case of emergency. He had to admit, it was pretty eerie to think that you could, however unlikely it may be, crash into the ocean or need extra oxygen to live long enough to get to land. He glanced over at Nagito nervously. His arms were now curled across his chest, hands gripping his elbows. His head was bent, a cloud of puffy hair hiding his face. Maybe that was for the best.
“Can you try not to puke as long as possible?” Fuyuhiko whispered to Kazuichi. “I feel like I might have a situation to deal with.”
“I’m never trying to puke,” Kazuichi said, but he seemed worried too, glancing past Fuyuhiko. “Hey, Nagito, you doing alright?”
“Don’t worry about me, Kazuichi,” Nagito said, eerily calmly.
“That’s not the same thing as saying you’re fine, is it?” Kazuichi whispered to Fuyuhiko.
“He’s clearly not fucking fine,” Fuyuhiko snapped.
“Should I ask Hajime to swap?” Kazuichi asked.
Fuyuhiko nodded, but before Kazuichi could even undo his seatbelt, the plane jerked and started reversing out of the gate. Fuyuhiko heard Nagito draw in his breath sharply - then he was the one fumbling for his seatbelt, standing unsteadily.
“What the fuck are you doing, man?” Fuyuhiko yelled, catching onto the back of Nagito’s coat as he tried to clamber over the seats. “Sit down!”
“I’m afraid I need to get off,” Nagito said, voice still calm despite his frantic movements.
“It’s already moving, for God’s sake! Sit down before a flight attendant sees you!” It wasn’t hard to force Nagito back into his seat - he seemed light enough for a strong gust of wind to knock him over - and Souda hastily got the belt fastened again just as the plane rolled onto the runway.
“Okay. It’s fine. You’re fine,” Fuyuhiko gabbled, trying hard not to shout or swear or scream at all his classmates for making him deal with this. “Just sit still and… I dunno, plug your ears. The takeoff part is the worst.”
There was a cacophony of whirring as the engines roared to life and Fuyuhiko would be very grateful for all that noise in a second, because Nagito started to laugh. Dry, hysterical laughter, his eyes over-bright and manic, lips bared in that grisly parody of a smile.
“Has he lost his fucking mind?” Kazuichi asked, sounding genuinely frightened.
“You must really hate me, Fuyuhiko,” Nagito gasped. “To restrain me here… You must despise me.”
“I’m not restraining you!”
“Then let me off.” He locked eyes with Fuyuhiko and for a second the manic grin faded. “Please…”
The engines roared to a crescendo and the plane shot forward so quickly everyone was pinned to their seats with the force, zooming on and on until they could feel the entire structure lurch into the air. Kazuichi groaned softly, shutting his eyes, but Fuyuhiko was far more focused on Nagito. He had his eyes squeezed shut too, but his hand clamped hard onto Fuyuhiko’s arm. Really fucking hard. Shit, maybe Nagito wasn’t as weak as he looked. Fuyuhiko cursed as his terrified companion started digging his nails into his skin, actually drawing blood. The pain prompted Fuyuhiko to try prying the hand loose a little, but Nagito clamped on harder, carving several new scratches. Fuyuhiko didn’t dare attempt again; he’d get his arm cut to ribbons.
When the plane was flying high and the swirling, disoriented feeling had eased, Fuyuhiko checked on both men. Kazuichi had his head in his hands, but he gave a shaky thumbs up when Fuyuhiko prodded him.
“‘M okay,” he mumbled. “Got through takeoff. Gets better when it’s levelling out.”
“Right, good. Try to stay that way, yeah? I’ve got a lot to handle right now,” Fuyuhiko sighed. Nagito was still shredding his arm up, but he could feel one finger tapping for attention.
“What? What do you need? Please, no bullshit, Nagito. I don’t know what the fuck I’m supposed to do,” Fuyuhiko said. He was practically yelling in his panic, and the people across the aisle turned to glare.
It was several seconds before Nagito could gather enough breath to speak. Fuyuhiko saw that awful smile stretch across his face again, like somebody had twisted his frown the wrong way round. “Aha, I’m sorry to trouble you, Fuyuhiko, but I think I might be having a panic attack.”
“What?” Fuyuhiko felt like he was going to have a panic attack too. “Why? What’s going on?”
“I can’t seem to catch my breath. And the cabin has been spinning for several minutes.”
“Jesus Christ! Why didn’t you say anything?” Fuyuhiko hurriedly pushed Nagito’s head down as far as it would go before it bumped the seat in front. “Fucking… think of things you can see or something? Shit, I don’t remember.”
“Five things you can see,” Kazuichi chimed in. “Is he really gonna pass out? Hajime is gonna kill us.”
“I’m gonna fucking kill him for leaving this shit to us! How stupid can you get?”
“Ahh, I’m such a nuisance. If I’d known I’d react in such a shameful way, I’d have been sure to take a seat away from all the Ultimates. Why are you taking care of someone like me?”
“Nagito, shut up, this isn’t your fault,” Fuyuhiko said shortly. “Stop babbling on about ultimates and do the panic attack thing. Listen to Kazuichi, he knows how to do it.”
Nagito did as he was told, working through the grounding techniques with Kazuichi while Fuyuhiko held onto his shoulders feeling helpless. Nagito was shaking so hard it was difficult not to drop him altogether. He didn’t pass out, but even after the grounding Nagito looked far from what you’d consider calm. He was grey-white when Fuyuhiko carefully hauled him back upright.
“Are you okay..?”
The smile came back, though it seemed a lot more tired than manic this time. “Ah… I don’t think so, Fuyuhiko.”
“Well. At least you’re honest. Can you tell me how you’re feeling? Physically, I mean. Clearly I see you’re fucked mentally. And please stop smiling like that, you’re creeping me out,” Fuyuhiko said.
Nagito finally released his grip on Fuyuhiko’s arm, his nails coated with blood. He bent forward slowly, carefully, like he was terrified any sudden movements would send him spiralling again, and let his elbows rest on his knees. “I still feel slightly lightheaded. And nauseous. I’d still like to get off.”
Fuyuhiko examined the long scratches on his arm, sighing and mopping the blood with his sleeve. “Well, you’d have a long drop if you tried to get off now. You should cut your damn fingernails too. I’m going to get Hajime.” He turned to Kazuichi. “Watch him for a minute, okay? I don’t fucking care about drawing the short straw anymore, I can’t handle this.” Fuyuhiko scrambled over Kazuichi’s lap into the aisle, ignoring the flight attendant yelling for him to remain in his seat until the seatbelt signs went off.
“Hey! What did you mean drawing the short straw?” Kazuichi called behind him. Fuyuhiko didn’t look back.
“Hajime!” Fuyuhiko yelled when he was still more than six aisles away from the startled man. “You’re swapping with me!” He lowered his voice when he reached Hajime’s seat, but only marginally. “I can’t handle this. I don’t know how you expected Komeada to react to this shit, but whatever you thought, it’s worse. Way fucking worse. And I can’t help him. So go fucking do it yourself.”
“Well, I was going to swap as soon as the seatbelt signs were off,” Hajime said pointedly.
“I don’t give a shit. Look at my arm! Your fucking boyfriend nearly ripped it off at the elbow.” Fuyuhiko brandished his scratched, bloodied arm, and Hajime looked genuinely shocked.
“Oh my God…” He stood up hastily, clinging to the seats in front as the plane was still slightly off-balance. “I’m sorry, Fuyuhiko. I didn’t expect him to panic so much. He never said anything much about it when I asked.”
“Yeah, well, no offence, Hajime, but you can be as thick as three short planks sometimes. So if he implied anything, I don’t doubt you missed it,” Fuyuhiko snapped, taking Hajime’s empty seat - next to Chiaki, thank goodness. She hadn’t even looked up from her Switch this whole time. Perfect.
“I have taken some offence…” Hajime mumbled, then turned to go back down the aisle, trying hard not to catch the eyes of the other passengers staring like they were all part of a circus act. He was pretty sure the whole class was going to get banned from this airline. Gundham had been in trouble already for taking his hamsters out of their little travelling cage - several times. He was insulted by the insistence of the staff that all pets had to be contained, both by their labelling of his hamsters as mere pets and from their implication that his dark devas could ever be contained.
Hajime followed the sounds of more disgruntled passengers to Nagito’s seat. He was in the middle now, hunched over one of those white sick bags, while Kazuichi awkwardly patted his back. He looked relieved to see Hajime, beckoning frantically. “Come help me! I think he’s gonna spew. Weird that it’s not me for once.”
Hajime sighed, struggling to shuffle past his friends to get to Nagito’s other side, squashed by the window. Nagito didn’t acknowledge him. Hajime could see he had his eyes closed, his face strangely calm and smooth, though his breathing was erratic.
“Hey, Nagito? You hearing me?” Hajime called, tapping the other man’s pale cheek.
“Did I drive Fuyuhiko away?” Nagito said, voice strained. “I’m not surprised. To bother the Ultimates with the problems of an insignificant nobody like me.”
“Dude, shut up,” Kazuichi groaned. “Nobody thinks that. Stop being so weird. Fuyuhiko just doesn’t know how to look after people.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to sit up? I doubt you’ll throw up, you wouldn’t eat anything this morning,” Hajime said.
At that exact moment, almost as if to pointedly prove him wrong, Nagito made a choked retching sound and ducked his head down further, cringing.
“Oookay. Or not. Um. You’re okay,” Hajime muttered, placing a wary hand on Nagito’s hair to keep it out of the way. It was strange hair; soft yet thick at the same time, and it poofed up determinedly no matter how many times Ibuki tried him out with different hairstyles.
The seatbelt signs were now off, so Kazuichi stood up hastily, trying to shield Nagito from the people hurrying up the aisle to the bathrooms. Hajime was grateful, but part of him wished he could switch places with Souda. He didn’t think he’d be having to coach Nagito through something so strangely intimate so soon into their… relationship? They’d never come out and actually said they were boyfriends, not even to each other, but their classmates seemed to think they were a couple.
As Nagito really hadn’t eaten much of anything all day, the actual vomiting didn’t last too long, but the dry heaving continued for several agonising minutes, and the nausea remained indefinitely. But Nagito felt safe to lift him head, his pale cheeks dusted with pink. He smiled shakily at Hajime. “How embarrassing. I caused a scene in front of all these people. You must be lamenting the day you set eyes on me.”
“Stop,” Hajime sighed, taking the soiled bag and handing it to Kazuichi.
“Hajime!” Souda squealed, hastily handing it off to a flight attendant, who offered a bottle of water for Nagito in response. Her smile didn’t slip once. Hajime was impressed by her poker face.
“Drink,” Hajime prompted, forcing the bottle into Nagito’s hands. “I want you to try eating something later too. You’re going to pass out.”
Kazuichi sat down again, glancing at Nagito. “You feeling… okay now? Like as okay as you can?”
Nagito took a long drink of water, eyes blank. Then he smiled again, that strange, forced smile. “I really am pathetic, aren’t I? Causing such a dramatic spectacle over something that happened years ago. I don’t deserve such attention from the Ultim-“
“Stop!” Hajime took Nagito’s face in his hands, forcing him to meet his eyes. Hajime thought he saw something flicker in them, some semblance of an honest emotion. “Nagito, can you please stop trying to act like you don’t have feelings. I know you’re scared. And you know what? It’s okay. It’s completely fucking normal to feel like this right now. I shouldn’t have left you. That was me being dense, and I’m sorry. But you can stop pretending. It’s just me here - and Kazuichi, but he’ll understand too. He’s scared of everything.”
“I am not!” Kazuichi cried, outraged.
Hajime didn’t break eye contact with Nagito, both breathing heavily. Nagito glared back at first, his face twisting into a scowl, but Hajime didn’t falter.
“Let me in,” Hajime muttered. “I know you, for God’s sake. You’re not gonna scare me off. It’s okay to need help. Please.”
Another silence for several long, tense seconds. Then - finally, amazingly - Nagito made a soft frustrated noise, lunged forwards and wound his arms around Hajime’s neck so tightly that for a second Hajime thought he’d messed up so badly Nagito was trying to throttle him.
“Hey, careful,” Hajime said, but his voice was gentle and he didn’t try to pry Nagito off. Nagito let his forehead rest on Hajime’s shoulder, his hair falling to shield his face completely. Hajime snaked his own arms awkwardly around Nagito’s slender waist. He could feel Nagito shaking, feel the warm puff of his breathing against his shoulder. The shaking never eased, but as time passed the breathing seemed to calm slightly.
Nagito didn’t speak as he clung to Hajime for dear life. Not a single word. But Hajime hadn’t really expected him to. This was already a degree of vulnerability that Nagito was completely unaccustomed to showing anyone, let alone his almost-boyfriend, his classmates and an entire plane full of strangers. It was a good place to start.
Kazuichi watched them slightly bitterly. “It’s alright for some. I wouldn’t mind someone to cuddle up to,” he muttered.
“That’s your other talent. Ultimate Third Wheel,” Hajime quipped.
Their row of seats was reasonably peaceful after that, though Hajime could hear the laughter and yelling from their classmates further back. He hoped the sensible members of the group could stop them causing too much trouble. Hajime couldn’t go tell them to knock it off himself; whenever he moved at all Nagito would tighten his grip.
He sat there, hour after hour, until he had to pry Nagito off him for a bathroom break. It wasn’t easy. Nagito fought him and clung on as much as he could, though Hajime explained he’d be back in five minutes.
“Look, cling onto Kazuichi while I go pee,” Hajime suggested. Kazuichi didn’t look overly enthusiastic about that idea, but he didn’t protest.
Nagito sighed. He slowly drew back his arms, and whispered three breathy little words into Hajime’s shirt before he went, perhaps the most raw, vulnerable words Hajime had ever heard Nagito say: “Please come back.”
“I will. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere,” he murmured.
Nagito shifted shakily in his seat, turned to Kazuichi and lunged at him too, wrapping his arms around his neck. Kazuichi squealed and whined that he was being strangled, but he didn’t shove Nagito away. Hajime almost felt like they were new parents, passing their newborn between them: “I’ll hold him for a bit, you go to the loo.”
There was a queue for the tiny airplane bathrooms. Hajime stood impatiently, wriggling his cramped shoulders and rocking back on his heels; he was glad Nagito seemed to be trusting him more, but he was pretty stiff after sitting in the same position for hours.
Two women ahead of Hajime in the queue seemed to be having an animated discussion about something, and when Hajime caught the word “school” he started to listen properly.
“I don’t know what sort of school they come from, but they’re a strange bunch,” one lady hissed. “There’s an odd boy in the row ahead of me, one of that lot, who has a collections of rodents, all free from their cage! Running all over the seat trays! Well, that’s not very hygienic, is it? But when I told him as much, he gave me the most incredibly rude answer.”
“Young people have such foul mouths these days,” the other lady agreed.
“No, he wasn’t swearing. It was ever so strange, almost as if he was… well, you’ll think I sound silly. But it was like he was cursing me.”
It was a good job for Hajime that the toilet became available and the lady rushed inside, because he was biting his cheeks to contain his laughter. When he’d used the loo himself and gone back to release Kazuichi from Nagito’s vice grip, he recited the story for both of them.
Kazuichi laughed, poking Nagito gently. “There you are, Nagito. No need to worry. No matter how weird we are, we can always count on Gundham to be weirder.”
Nagito didn’t respond, but Hajime saw a hint of a smile - a real smile - on his lips before he buried his face in Hajime’s neck again.

Hi I really liked the nagito x clingy s/o hcs! Can you di him but with an s/o who’s like Zenitsu from demon slayer?
I love this idea! Luckily I’ve watched demon slayer.
Nagito with an S/O like Zenitsu from demon slayer
Tumblr media
just like zenitsu anytime you saw a guy you thought was cute, hot, or something. You would always grab their hands and say “please! Marry me!” And they almost always rejected you.
Until you meet Nagito, you two meet in the main course class. The moment you laid your eyes on him, you felt your heart explode I wouldn’t be surprised if your eyes had hearts in them. Nobody was actually in their besides you two. He saw you and greeted you with a smile and you dashed over to him and grabbed one of his hands with both of yours. Got down on both knees and said “I don’t know who you are! but! please! marry me!”
Like anybody he was quite surprised but then gave a little chuckle and said “I would love too!-“ your eyes light up “but I think you could find somebody much better, than trash like me.”
At that moment you gave him a blank face look like you didn’t understand a thing he just said.
“Excuse me?”
“Hm?”
“I’m sorry. I think I just misheard you can you repeat that?”
“I said you can probably find somebody much better than trash like me.”
You started thinking a bunch of things ‘is he joking?’ ‘When was the last time this guy saw a mirror?’ ‘He’s looks like the definition of an angel!’ ‘Wait is this just a lie cause he doesn’t want to date me or he already has a girlfriend?’ You thought that the last one made the most sense.
“Listen if you weren’t into dating me or you had a girlfriend already you could’ve just told me. You didn’t have to lie.” You said irritated
“What made you think I lied!?” He said shocked
“Cause nobody as cute as you would call themselves trash!”
“Y-you think I-I’m c-cute?!?”
“Yeah, you look like an angel! That’s why I want you to marry me!”
“Well were to young to get married and we just met. How about we go on a date first?”
“Really! Sure! How about we go see a movie?”
“Yeah that’s sounds great!”
“Oh also my name is S/O!”
“What a wonderful name! I’m Nagito Komaeda!”
Inside you were so excited you were going on your first date with a super cute boy!
When you guys went to the movies he suggested a scary movie. Now you were a big baby when it came to scary things but you didn’t want to look lame to him. So you agreed and thought about how you have to stay brave during the movie.
30 minutes in the movie…
You were screaming at every jump scare even when they weren’t that scary. At the end you were crying. You were so embarrassed
“I’m sorry Nagito. I probably ruined that movie for you with all my screaming and crying. I can’t help it I scare very easily. I’ll just go home, thanks for the chance to go on a date.”
Before you walked away, he grabbed your wrist
“I really don’t mind, I found it adorable when you got scared and would cling onto my arm. Also letting yourself cry and trying not hold back your emotions must mean you are pretty honest and not one to hide your feelings. I can appreciate that about someone.”
You felt your face heat up! He just too cute
“T-then you wouldn’t mind going another date right?”
“Yeah!”
You jumped and and celebrated
Not long you guys officially became each others significant other.
Though one thing plagued both of your minds
“S/O I’ve never seen your ultimate talent. I also don’t know what it is. when I did research about our class and your name came up it was just question marks?”
“As weird as it may sound I don’t know but people thought I have one cause I get into trouble a lot and I get scared so much I pass out. But when I wake up I’m home.”
“Hhm that’s very interesti-mph!”
Both you guys were grabbed and pushed into a van and both of your hand were behind your back with handcuffs!
“Oh my god! What’s going on! We are going to DIE! NO NO NO NO NO NO! I can’t Die! I’m to young! I-I-I…” you pass out
“S/O!!”
“Wow what a scaredy-cat!”
“How pathetic.”
Suddenly you standed up. Which shocked everbody in the back of the van
“S/o…?”
Then you kicked one of them in the face. That one happened to have the key which you grabbed unlocked your handcuffs with. Then one by one in a blink of an eye you knocked them out.
“Don’t worry Nagito. I will protect and save you.”
You picked him up and opened the back of the van and jumped out. Thank goodness they were at a red light. The van drove off.
You then unlocked Nagito handcuffs. You then started waving back and forth. You landed on his shoulder mad a few snore noises and then woke up
“Ah! Oh Nagito! I had the most terrible dream! I dreamt that we were kidnapped!”
Nagito was still to process everything that just happened. Then he realize that must be your ultimate talent.
“Hey S/O did you ever learn how to fight?”
“Thats quite funny you ask me that…I did take a kung fu class and somehow I got into expert and pro. Why do you ask?”
“Oh I’m just curious.”
He thought it was quite the amazing and unusual talent but never the less he loved it!
Your classmates asked Nagito what your talent is! Since yourself didn’t know it. He would say he didn’t know even thought he did. because he thought nobody would believe him even if they told him.
It all came to light one day. when fuyuhiko knocked you out with a punch that was meant for Nagito cause he wouldn’t stop talking about Hope. But you jumped infront of him.
Everybody was watching.
“Ugh This time I’m going to get you!”
But before he could hit Nagito you grabbed his arm
“Wha-oof!”
You kicked him in the stomach and then punched him in the face.
Peko then tried to hit you with her bamboo sword. But you dodged and dodged until you found an opening and did not hold back on your attacks. Both of them were on the floor not able to get up.
“None of you will ever hurt Nagito.”
Everbody was really surprised cause that’s the most confident they ever heard you. Cause you were either crying or yelling.
Then you fell back into Nagito’s arms. Then you woke up.
“Did I fall asleep in class! Am I in trouble with our teacher! Nagitoooooo! Am I in trouble!”
You were back to normal.
From that day forward nobody messes with Nagito when you were asleep. Even Akane and Nekomaru
Sometime even when you weren’t asleep you could be very scary
For example some kids were making fun of Nagito calling him a hope obsessed freak and making fun of his looks.
”HUH! HOW DARE YOU MAKE FUN OF HIM!! YOU ALL ARE PROBABLY JUST JEALOUS!! YEAH JEALOUS!!! CAUSE HE’S SUPER CUTE AND IN THE MAIN COURSE AT HOPES PEAK ACADEMY!! BUZZ OFF!! LEAVE MY BOYFRIEND ALONE!! OR YOU WILL REGRET IIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTT!!!”
Tumblr media
A mad Zenitsu for people who don’t watch demon slayer. To give them an idea.
Nagito was a little considered about you after that little display.
“My hope do you really think that was necessary?”
You look back at him and noticed the nervousness on his face.
“Why do you think that was weird?!? I’m sorry I won’t do it again! ʷᵉˡˡ ⁿᵒᵗ ⁱⁿ ᶠʳᵒⁿᵗ ᵒᶠ ʸᵒᵘ. Please don’t break up with me!!”
He comforted you promising he wasn’t going to break up with you over it.
You love Nagito probably more than he loves you and everybody’s talent and hope! And let me tell you that’s a lot. Like a lot!
Your just counting the days until you guys are old enough to get married. That’s how much you love him.
He never finds your crying or yelling annoying which can’t be said for a lot of people.
“Nagito I don’t know how you put up with me. But I really appreciate how you haven’t left me. I hope you don’t ever leave me. I love you a lot!”
“I know you think the way you act and the things you do are annoying, and to other people it is but not to me. It’s just who you are and I love who you are. I won’t leave you. I also know your waiting until we’re old enough to get married. I promise one day I’ll marry you.”
“OH MY GOSH REALLY! I LOVE YOU NAGITO! YOUR JUST THE BE-NO! THE GREATEST BOYFRIEND EVER! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU!”
Then you started kissing him all over his face, hugging him, and nuzzling your faces together. All the while he was smiling, chuckling, and laughing
You two just have a really good relationship. It’s so cute and interesting!
Thank you komaeda_simp37 again! With another story idea! I hope you all enjoyed this little story and hope you consider following me! Please don’t be scared to ask me idea’s. Considering what it is I’ll think about writing it. I don’t do you know $exu@l stuff and I won’t write stuff like kidn@pping, or @bu$e! I am kinda of a yandere fan though so I might do that! Hope you have a wonderful day bye!

Hello! Can I request Twogami and Ryota (separately) with a ult. beekeeper s/o who constantly wears the beekeeping suit even during odd times (like when sitting in class or even at a pool, the location is up to you!)
Tumblr media
Hello Dear Anon! I love Ryota and Imposter so so much! I hope you enjoy this.
⚔Mod Peko⚔
Ryota and Imposter with a Beekeeping S/O
Ryota Mitarai
“[Name]! P-Please stop moving. I’m almost done with the rough draft!”
“Ryota…..I wanna go in the water though.”
You thought you’d be enjoying the school trip to the beach. However, Ryota had other plans. He brought his drawing tablet and is sitting hunched over it. His hands worked quickly, frame after frame being completed in seconds. You thought it was kinda weird that he brought his work with him on a vacation...but you were still wearing your beekeeping uniform. You guess you couldn’t judge.
Said uniform is what currently brought you into this situation. Watching you enjoy this trip struck Ryota with some sort of inspiration. He needed you to model for him. And he looked so excited about it you just couldn’t say no.
“The water? But...But you’re still wearing your suit...N-Not that I’m judging, I just don’t think you’d be comfortable that’s all!”
“Oh yeah I guess it would be hard to swim….I just wanna cool off I guess.” You said as you unconsciously pulled at your suit. It was a hot summer day and you were fully covered head to toe. The heat was starting to get to you, you were sweating and you felt short of breath. Noticing your movements and your laboured breathing, Ryota began to question you.
“Are...You feeling okay? Is it too hot out here? We could go over to the shop down the road and get some cold drinks.”
“....No….It’s fine honey. You finish up, I'll be okay.”
Still uncertain, Ryota gets back to work. He’s drawing double time in an effort to finish quicker for you. He doesn't want to be a bad boyfriend by making you sit out in this heat. Just a couple more frames and he would be finished. Then after he was done the two of you could walk down to that convenience store and get some drinks and snacks. Maybe you could even hold hands on the way there..Ah! What an embarrassing thing to think. Though holding your hand is pretty nice. Ryota, in the midst of animating and his lovestruck thoughts, hears a voice calling his name.
Looking up he sees Akane with a volleyball. Throwing the ball up and down she asks Ryota if he'd be interested in a game with everyone else. After a moment of thought he shakes his head and goes back to his animation.
“Uh...N-No thank you Akane...Oh! But maybe [Name] will.” Ryota lifts his head once again and looks over at where you were seated. “Hey would you-” He cuts himself off once he sees your current state. Slumped over, your helmet is smooshed into the sand and it looks like you’re barely breathing.
“AHHHHHHH!”
Your eyes open. Looking around you see that you’re in your hotel bed. Huh, you don’t seem to remember walking back. Trying to sit up, your head goes light and you decide that it’s just better to lay down. The sound of the door unlocking and opening is heard. Turning the corner into the room is Ryota holding a shopping bag. Seeing you’re awake Ryota speeds over to the bed and gently helps you sit up.
“[Name]! I’m so happy you’re okay. You should’ve told me it was too hot out. We c-could’ve left sooner.” He begins rummaging through the plastic bag and pulls out two bottles. One is water and the other is a sports drink. “Mikan said that someone with heat stroke should drink a lot of fluids. I brought water and a gatorade so you could have options.” Ryota presses his palm against your forehead. Upon contact he frowns.
“Still kinda warm. Mikan also said that once you feel okay to get up you should take a cool bath.”
Seeing your boyfriend care so much about you made you smile. It was usually you who took care of Ryota when he overworked himself. So it was nice to see him care for you with just as much passion.
Wait a minute. You aren’t in your beekeeping uniform anymore. You were now dressed in your pajamas. This was a perfect moment to tease Ryota.
“Hey Ryota. Who changed me out of my uniform.?“ The second those words were heard Ryota went beet red. Scrambling to find a response all he could mention was Mikan’s name.
With a small laugh you set your hand on his. “Heh. Relax, I was just messing around.” Face still red, he looks away with a pout.
“Though heh heh, I wouldn’t mind if it were you” And his stuttering commences once again.
Imposter
Thrown into a killing game against your will was not the greatest thing to happen. You sure hope all your bees were okay. Whoever was running this place brought the breeders hamsters but not your bees? How unfair.
Being the last one in the restaurant after breakfast you decided to clean up a bit. Teenagers weren’t the most tidy. The door to the kitchen swung open and revealed Twogami. Now you knew that wasn’t the real Byakuya Togami, having known the imposter since middle school. Everytime they changed identities you still managed to find a way to contact them. Upon seeing each other on this island they made you swear that you wouldn’t tell anyone of their true self. Not that you would anyway, you weren’t one to blab others secrets.
Looking over at you stacking plates and cups, Twogami rolls his eyes. “Even while cleaning you still wear that silly little suit huh?”
“Yeah well you’re wearing someone else's face.”
Taken back, Twogami lets out a noise of surprise. Looking around he checks to see if anyone is nearby. Seeing no one Imposter drops the Togami act.
“I thought I told you not to bring that up here. You promised you wouldn’t.”
You let out a teasing laugh. “Relax a little. No one’s here but us honey.”
Upon hearing your bee related nickname they push the glasses of their disguise up. A light pink dusting their cheeks. “You may not see anyone here but you never know who’s listening. If my cover was blown I’d have to relocate and possibly never speak to you again.”
“Relocate to where? In case you forgot we’re trapped in a killing game. Also you know you’d be miserable without me honey.” You teased. Imposter doesn’t respond. “Aw come on don’t get all grumpy on me.” You smile and poke their cheek. This causes them to let out a small smile. Which was quickly wiped away as the two of you heard footsteps. Pulling away from each other you continue to quickly clean up. Coming up the restaurant stairs was Mahiru.
You were decently close with the photographer. She admired your strong work ethic and you admired her pictures. Noticing you working to clean the restaurant while Twogami is just standing there, a disgusted look crosses her face. She quickly walks over to you and grabs the plates out of your gloved hands. She then steps over to Twogami and shoves the plates in his direction.
“You just gonna stand over here and watch them clean? You may be some rich guy but that doesn’t mean you can’t help out too.”
“Ah Mahiru it’s okay really. I was almost done anyway.”
“Ugh. Were you just standing here while they did all the work? What kind of a man are you?” She sets the plates down on the table next to Twogami with a huff. She then grabs your wrist and starts to walk you to the stairs. “Come on [Name]. You shouldn’t have to do all that work yourself.” Leaving Twogami dumbfounded in the restaurant.

Danganronpa messing up Nagito's character cuz apparently even they believe headcanons
Is it just me or is Danganronpa making Nagito worse?
Like at the start we have a socially intelligent and intuitive paranoid kid who hates despair and gets forced into a killing game that is filled with everything he hates and fears
So he clings desperately to hope as a coping mechanism to deal with everything
And then in the anime, we get a social outcast (for some reason even though people would've loved his hope talks like they did back in chapter 1 since no killing game happens and he is just speaking normally)
who bombs a school (forget his paranoia apparently) and nonchalantly allows himself to get out of the island and accidentally kill 40+ soldiers (again, ignoring his paranoia of his destructive luck cycle apparently)
And then in Danganronpa 2.5 we get a socially inept, clingy hope addict who apparently doesn't have boundaries?
(We seriously ignoring how much he pushes people away back in SDR2, is afraid of having friends due to his luck cycle, respects boundaries to the max, and how socially intelligent he is and his crazy empathy to know people's hopes and despairs?)
(And no even Mikan's motivations he understood, he knew she killed for despair because she literally killed for Junko, Mikan just says he doesn't understand because she doesn't count is as killing for despair, she counts it as killing for love)
And some of the fans defend this and says Nagito is hated or is supposed to have no boundaries because of his social ineptness or inability to properly socialize
Okay
WHEN?
WHEN HAS HE IN SUPER DANGANRONPA 2 ACTUALLY SUCKED AT SOCIALIZING OR WAS SOCIALLY INEPT OR OUT OF TOUCH?
NOT THE ANIME OR SPINOFFS, I AM TALKING ABOUT THE ACTUAL SECOND GAME WHERE HE FIRST SHOWED HIS FACE
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOW GONNA BASE ALMOST ALL OF MY POINTS ON HOW NAGITO IS AND ACTS DURING SDR2 AND THAT INCLUDES HIS FREE TIME EVENTS AND ISLAND MODE
NOT THE ANIME OR DANGANRONPA 2.5, JUST DANGANRONPA 2 GOODBYE DESPAIR
Bruh, the guy is hated sure, but boy was he awesome at being a people-person and gathering people during chapter 1
He encouraged everyone with his hope talks and Hajime even kept simping for the guy because of his positivity
And due to the guy's CRAZY HIGH EMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING, he is able to understand the hopes and despairs of almost every freaking character
He knew Teruteru wanted to continue the culinary legacy and help his mom, that's his hope
He knew Imposter would want to protect everyone no matter what, that's his hope
He knew Mikan killed for Despair, that despair being Junko Enoshima
He knew Fuyuhiko's hope is Peko and that both of them care about each other very much
He knew how similar he and Hajime are and how they are both bystanders and lovers of Hope, for Hajime that Hope being Hope's Peak academy itself and/or having talent
The guy is crazy with how well he knows people, and he is definitely not socially inept at all
He respects boundaries, is able to read the room and the only time he seems socially inept is when he is either trying to purposefully annoy someone to get a reaction or when he is too obsessed with his ideas with hope
The guy is obsessed with hope, yes, but he is not socially inept
That is seriously downgrading how much empathy he has and how much understanding he has for every character
And Nagito does have empathy, the reason why it seems like he doesn't is because he treats the dead people like stepping stones for hope
He does have empathy tho, and too much that it takes a toll on his mental health whenever he sees dead bodies, so he clings to hope in order to cope and tries to pretend that it's okay if people die because there is always hope
(basically, deniability at it's finest)
It's not that the guy doesn't care, it's that he does a little too much
Which is why he laughs, laughing for him doesn't mean he is happy, it means he is surprised (he says this in island mode)
And seeing that his greatest fears are seeing people die constantly because of his luck cycle, wouldn't be surprised that he laughs like crazy in a literal killing game
And laughing out of stress or fear isn't unheard of, I mean there is also a thing called nervous laughter
And jesus christ, CAN PEOPLE STOP TRYING TO USE FRONTOTEMPORAL DEMENTIA SYMPTOMS TO EXPLAIN HIM?
What I mean is, yes he has dementia or is at least diagnosed with it
And I believe that he probably does actually have dementia (not saying he could've lied tho but he could've still been misdiagnosed)
But that doesn't mean he has all of the symptoms
I don't think we can confirm if he does or doesn't have dementia because he might just not have all of the symptoms
But I do know that using the symptoms to explain his character isn't a good idea especially since it usually undermines who he actually is
Like, let me explain
Behavior and/or dramatic personality changes, such as swearing, stealing, increased interest in sex, or a deterioration in personal hygiene habits
- No, and no not even when the killing game started. Yeah sure he laughs now, but that's no different from how he is normally since laughing for him is what he does when he gets surprised or stressed. He doesn't change much in the killing game, he still believes in hope and everyone else, still respects boundaries, still have crazy high intellect and empathy, still pushes people away
Socially inappropriate, impulsive, or repetitive behaviors
- not really, again the guy is a freaking gentleman even during the killing game. He respects boundaries, reprimands Teruteru for sexual assault during chapter 1, pushes people away and distances himself from others, isn't at all impulsive (usually quite the opposite really), and is usually planning and tries to remain calm and composed throughout the killing game (struggling tho cuz yeah killing game)
Impaired judgment
- here, I kinda disagree. I wouldn't say that Nagito is entirely in the right with everything he does, but I understand his views. The guy knows that no one is truly a bad person in the killing game because everyone was forced into it. He knows that even the blackened escapes and everyone dies, it isn't fully a bad thing because that means someone escapes and goes back home to their loved ones while the killing game ends
If a blackened succeeds, the despair would be of course everyone else dying and the blackened going through a lot of trauma, but the hope would be the end of the killing game and the blackened going home or to their loved ones or to their goal in life or whatever
If the blackened dies, the despair would obviously be the blackened dying and the killing game still continuing, while the hope would be everyone else still alive
Nagito isn't exactly wrong in wanting to help the blackened as well, of course, Nagito would want him himself to be the victim so another person gets a chance at escape and no one else would be the victim
Sadly for Nagito, that time never comes
Nagito doesn't want others to be killed, he wants to sacrifice himself instead as the victim instead of everyone else
Apathy
- .....big no. Nonononono. The dude is anything but apathetic.
"Apathy is a lack of feeling, emotion, interest, or concern about something."
Seriously, being a dude who is constantly supportive of everyone and their hopes in life and how passionate this dude gets about hope and despair, and the fact that he is the most stressed 24/7 about something bad happening due to his luck, this guy is seriously anything but apathetic
Lack of empathy
- No. If the guy truly lack empathy he wouldn't need to use Hope desperately as a coping mechanism, wouldn't care about the ultimates and their hopes and despairs, wouldn't constantly be thinking about helping the ultimates and overcoming despair, wouldn't be the most stressed out of everyone, and definitely wouldn't be in love with Hajime or even act the way he did in chapter 1
Decreased self-awareness
- You don't actually understand why you act the way you do.
A good indicator that you lack self-awareness deals with how well you understand your emotions, actions, and behavior. People who lack self-awareness often feel constantly off-kilter, anxious, or angry.
This is not Nagito at all. The guy understands his emotions and behaviors which is why he is able to do the things he does and is able to conduct plans based on how much he understands his own self and capabilities. The guy is actually the most self-aware out of everyone, he knows about how people don't understand him and constantly misunderstand him and his intentions, he is aware constantly of his inability sometimes to properly explain his goals to people.
The guy has a lot of self-awareness and isn't afraid to take responsibility for his actions. Actually, it's because of how self-aware he is of his own self and his destructive luck cycle that he constantly blames himself for anything bad that happens.
The guy is seriously self-aware as hell and it's scary sometimes
Loss of interest in normal daily activities
- Nope, he hasn't shown any sign of apathy towards anything and is usually pretty hyped about doing daily activities. He is paranoid though on the daily because he fears for what his luck cycle might do
Emotional withdrawal from others
- Emotional withdrawal involves bottling up your emotions. It involves cutting out the people who could help us, because we're so used to rejection that we've learned to anticipate it. Because we've learned to disconnect from others, we develop other unhealthy coping mechanisms
Emotional withdrawal is defined as pulling back emotionally or physically by bottling up your feelings or disconnecting from others. Emotional withdrawal can be far more complex at times. It is comparable to a breakup, in every way but physical.
Kind of? Yes, he pushes people away, but he is still willing to spend time with people, especially Hajime, when they really insist. He politely pushes people away, but he isn't opposed to hanging out with people either though it is sometimes rare
Loss of energy and motivation
- .... I already said it before, the guy is full of motivation and energy and passion that it is scary sometimes
Inability to use or understand language; this may include difficulty naming objects, expressing words, or understanding the meanings of words
-.....WHY IS THIS HERE? THE GUY IN THE JAPANESE DUB CONSTANTLY FLEXES HIS DAMN ENGLISH VOCABULARY DESPITE IT BEING A JAPANESE DUB
AND THE FUCKING ENGLISH WORDS HE USES ARE FANCY AND HIGH LEVEL AS FUCK THAT I FEEL SMART JUST READING THEM
Hesitation when speaking
- Definite no, the guy isn't afraid to voice his own opinions and never hesitates and can get very vocal about the things he is passionate about
Less frequent speech
- Again, definite hell no. I wouldn't be surprised if his voice lines are longer than the voice lines of everyone else combined
Distractibility
- Nope. The guy is focused on his goals constantly. No matter what he does, you can always be sure that it is for a certain goal. He pisses of Fuyuhiko? It was to get a reaction from him to confirm his suspicions about the true culprit. He lied about the rope? It was to see how Mikan would react and how the trial would go to confirm his suspicions about Mikan being the culprit?
The guy is focused like a damn soldier
Trouble planning and organizing
-.....do I seriously need to explain? This is Nagito we are talking about
Frequent mood changes
- Not really. He usually acts or reacts a certain way because something happened like someone died or something. He is actually pretty normal with how he acts and reacts and doesn't really change his mood rapidly that much
Agitation
- Yes and no? Sure the guy gets paranoid 24/7, but is still somewhat more chill than agitated to an extent. He is easy going and is just paranoid about what his luck would do, he is vigilant but not necessarily agitated
Increasing dependence
- No. The guy is independent to a fault and only relies on others when his plans call for it. He also usually does things of his own accord and rarely with a partner unless he really needs to or his goal is to help that person specifically, which knowing him is a usual thing
Unwillingness to talk
- Again, no. The guy talks a lot and while he pushes others away, he wouldn't turn down a conversation if the other person wanted one
Lack of inhibition or lack of social tact
- Again, no. The guy is a gentleman and respects boundaries and definitely gets stressed especially in the killing game. The guy is also paranoid 24/7 on a normal day due to his luck cycle
Obsessive or repetitive behavior, such as compulsively shaving or collecting items
- No? Sure he clings to hope but that is more of a coping mechanism. If he isn't in a stressful situation like a killing game he doesn't get that obsessive as much about hope since he doesn't need to desperately cling to it as a coping mechanism
Unusual verbal, physical or sexual behavior
- No? He isn't at all like this. It isn't unusual to panic or use a coping mechanism desperately when in a situation like a killing game, and he doesn't do anything unusual like this when it's a normal day. Sure the guy gets paranoid, but that's it
Weight gain due to dramatic overeating
- No? Actually, I don't really know how much weight he gains to be honest so idk
My main point here is, yes there is a chance Nagito does actually have dementia, but using the symptoms as a way to explain his character undermines who he actually is and can cause a lot of misunderstandings of his character
Especially since I remember being told that they only added in dementia to his character backstory a little late during his character development and creation
It isn't a good idea to use his symptoms because it usually gets his character wrong and sometimes makes them excuse a lot of the things he has done
The guy is self-aware, isn't socially inept, is a gentleman, and socially intelligent as hell
And I really hate how even Danganronpa itself seems to forget that
It's like they forgot who Nagito is, to begin with

Hey there I’m the type of person who loves family au’s from danganronpa.
So let’s just say you’re remanent au and the family au are combined.
Who would be the parents and how much angst would be in the storyline?
(You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to I’m just weirdo who loves angst and danganronpa famiy au)
Hi there! I’m not 100% sure if by family au you mean like ‘certain characters get paired up and have their own kids’ or ‘assign the remnants to all the rolls in a family like parents and children’
Regardless, first off the bat I’ll just say technically Any relationship between the remnants would be Extremely toxic, it just comes with the territory of despair lol. With that out of the way, the ships between remnants for the au are Kaito and Maki, Suichi and Kaede, Miu x Kiibo (Miu already treats the monokubs as her children so there’s a sudo family au right there lol), then tbh I think Himiko probably still has feelings for Angie despite Angie's complete lack of interest in anything that isn’t Junko related. Similarly Tenko is completely in love with Junko (all the remnants are to a certain degree but Tenko is just next level). Kirumi doesn’t have time for a relationship but she likely would need an heir for her empire (Ryoma is in the same boat) so if it was a family au those two would have at least one child each too.
I don’t have too many other thoughts for a V3 remnant family au,
However…
I do have a separate au that I haven’t talked about on here yet which involves Remnant Peko finding a baby while out on a mission and adopting it. She then has to try and keep the baby a secret from the other remnants and she basically just takes the baby and runs. The others eventually catch up with her and bring the two of them back to the remnant headquarters, and a big debate starts about what to do with the infant.
The remnants are split into two camps, team ‘Keep The Baby’ and team ‘Eat The Baby’ lol. Ultimately team Keep The Baby wins, so then Peko has to start raising her daughter in and amongst the remnants and hijinx and angst ensues (including another child entering the mix (thank you Mikan))!
If anyone wants to know more just lmk!

Danganronpa tier listttttt
Idk if people know how I feel about these characters, so here ya go! This is my opinion, please don’t attack me for this (also I only did this for the mainline games and Komaru + the Warriors of Hope)
...Also I wanted to go into detail on some of these so yeah Warning: it does get pretty rambly
S tier
...I don’t really feel like I need to explain any of these. MOVING ON
A tier
Chiaki Nanami Please don’t kill me for not putting her in S. I can explain, I promise Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore her and love her relationship with Hajime, but I didn’t really get as attached to her as I did with other characters. I still love her though
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu He has one of the best character arcs in the series, only JUST being outranked by Shuichi. Seriously, best SDR2 survivor, hands DOWN.
Ultimate Imposter Yep. Fake Togami outranks actual Togami by miles. YEAH I SAID IT! Idk, I found them a lot more interesting and likeable than Togami and it was a real shame they got killed off so early. They were pretty fun.
Ryoma Hoshi ...Do I even need to explain why he ranked so high? Like, come ON! He’s one of the most underrated characters in the franchise!
Hajime Hinata 3rd best protag for me (yes I’m counting Kaede shut up), but I still love his arc.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru He was my fave from the first game for a while, but the Kiyondo stuff kinda brought him down for me. And ngl, at times it feels like people only judge him based on his friendship with Mondo. I still love him though.
Mondo Owada Chapter 2. Need I say more. He’s a pretty cool character outside of that, too.
Komaru Naegi Just copy-paste my reason for Ryoma, it’s practically the same.
Nagisa Shingetsu Best Warrior of Hope. Hands down. I will die on this hill.
Kotoko Utsugi Despite being beaten out by Nagisa, I still adore her. She deserves the best.
B tier
Maki Harukawa Okay don’t get me wrong, I like her as a character, but the main problem I had was that her crush on Kaito kinda came out of left field for me. Like, she was a stoic unfeeling assassin and she suddenly fell head over heels for some astronaut that knocked on her door a few times. It feels pretty rushed (though knowing Tsumugi it probably was) and kinda brings her down a few pegs for me.
Korekiyo Shinguji “Why is he ranked so high!? He’s the freaky incest guy-” SHUT UP. Yes, his character was absolutely obliterated by the incest twist, but outside of that he is actually a pretty compelling character. (also if you look into his writing it’s pretty heavily implied that his sister used and abused him so judging him based on the incest thing alone is kinda odd ngl)
Ibuki Mioda She’s pretty fun. I’m not as head-over-heels for her as other people, but she’s pretty fun.
Celestia Ludenberg See, Ouma stans? THIS is how you do a compelling liar character!
Peko Pekoyama Please don’t kill me. It’s just that outside of Fuyuhiko she kinda felt......Eh? Like don’t get me wrong, I like her, but something always felt missing for me.
Nagito Komaeda My favourite antag didn’t even make A tier whoops- Yeah, Nagito is the best rival for me, but I’m not as head-over-heels for him as the rest of the fandom is.
Leon Kuwata PLAY HIS FREE TIME EVENTS.
Kiibo The “that’s robophobic!” joke kinda got old after the billionth time, but other than that he’s fun.
Aoi Asahina Her development is cool, but I don’t really have much to say on her honestly.
Sonia Nevermind Same reason as Aoi, but her relationship with Gundham is pretty cute.
Jataro Kemuri This kid deserves better and needs protection. ...I don’t have much other than that, though.
Monaca Towa This is gonna be controversial, but Monaca is the best villain of the franchise for me. Sure, she’s far from being one of my favourite characters, but she’s menacing and enough of a threat to be a great antagonist.
C tier
Kyoko Kirigiri Please don’t kill me. Like...She’s okay, but for a while I found her kinda......Dull? Idk what to say here.
Makoto Naegi He’s alright, but he’s the weakest protagonist for me.
Tsumugi Shirogane I think people are gonna agree with me the most on this. She’s a decent villain, but the "plainy plainy plain” stuff got REALLY old. (which is partially why I rewrote her entirely in DFTH oops) She’s better than Junko by a long shot, so at least she has that.
Kirumi Tojo She was okay until the nonsensical prime minister twist. Seriously, I detest that twist.
Angie Yonaga ...I don’t really have much to say on her. Like the Atua stuff got pretty old and I found her kinda annoying, but she has enough to put her above the characters I don’t like.
Mahiru Koizumi She kinda felt like a better Tenko, but...Uh...
Teruteru Hanamura Yeah, I don’t outright dislike Teruteru. Shocking, I know. His backstory and the stuff with his mom is charming enough, but the perverted stuff still kinda icks me out. It’s not as bad as Miu’s, though.
Genocider Syo She’s more interesting than Toko, but still not really that much there other than “serial killer that somehow got accepted into this academy but don’t think about that look how quirky she is!!”
Tenko Chabashira Similar to Angie. But the way she drooled over and chased after Himiko was kinda eeeh for me. Not as bad as Souda though, thank god
D tier
Byakuya Togami God, he’s such an asshole. Sure his development and the stuff he does is interesting, but GOD HE’S SUCH AN ASSHOLE.
Akane Owari She’s the most “why the hell are you still here” out of the survivors for me. Like, I don’t outright hate her, but a lot of the time it kinda feels to me like she’s only there for fanservice. (seriously, in one of her sprites she’s literally flashing you. Do I need to say anything else?)
Himiko Yumeno Yeah, she’s also pretty weak for me. Her development post chapter 3 was okay I guess, but it kinda felt too little too late.
Toko Fukawa Ugh. Sure, I don’t really like Togami, but the way she drools over him is gross. Sure she’s somewhat redeemed by her development in UDG, but other than that she doesn’t really offer much.
Yasuhiro Hagakure Didn’t really felt like he offered much other than “blatant comic relief who’s probably a stoner”.
Masaru Daimon The weakest out of the Warriors of Hope by a long shot. Sure, his backstory’s pretty sad, but his personality kinda grated on me, ngl.
Kokichi Ouma PLEASE DON’T KILL ME. Like, everyone hails him as the best written character of the series, but if you look closer into his writing it’s actually pretty bad. Not to mention the stans constantly excusing his actions because “uwu liar boy who’s gay for Shuichi” REALLY brings him down.
E tier
Kazuichi Souda He’s literally all the things people hate about Teruteru, but the fandom barely calls him out for it! Hooray!
Miu Iruma She’s basically just there for NSFW jokes. Need I say more. Also, why is no-one else talking about how problematic the maintenance scene was?
Nekomaru Nidai He’s basically just there for shit jokes. And that really got old for me.
Sayaka Maizono OKAY PLEASE PUT YOUR PITCHFORKS DOWN AND HEAR ME OUT! Look, I’m not gonna deny she was kinda cute, but what she pulled in chapter 1 was honestly really fucking snakey. “But she didn’t know about the class trial stuff!” So what? She was willing to use practically the only person in the academy she was close to as a fall guy so she could get away with murder and didn’t even bat an eye! Even if the trial stuff didn’t happen and she DID get away with killing Leon, did she really think everyone would be okay with it? Hell, did she even CONSIDER how Makoto felt!? Sayaka is a fucking snake! She literally USED Makoto!!! WHY IS NO-ONE CALLING HER OUT!?!?
F tier
Junko Enoshima ...Do I even need to explain this.
Mikan Tsumiki I really didn’t like her, even BEFORE chapter 3. Yeah, I said it. She kinda got on my nerves and the fact that they were playing her up for fanservice despite her backstory was really gross, and chapter 3 just made everything so much worse. Like, her getting her memories back and killing someone could’ve worked, JUST MAKE HER PLAN MAKE SENSE!
Hiyoko Saionji She’s just a fucking bully. Do I really need to elaborate?
Hifumi Yamada ...Again. Do I REALLY NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS!?

The way you feel annoyed with Miu is the same way I feel about Mahiru; it tires me out so much that she’s super praised in the fandom, when she’s, in my opinion, obnoxious. She has this traditional view of gender which is insulting to the rest of the female cast who can very much take of their themselves and don’t need protection from the guys (I.e: sakura, Peko, akane, tenko, Kyouko, etc). She constantly takes out her daddy issues, she projects that a lot onto the other characters. Her projection is not as bad as Mikan, but I feel like it’s on the same level as Soda’s
Like Hajime being overwhelmed with everything happening in the prologue understandably passes out, and she calls him unreliable? Or when she tells the mentally unstable yakuza that he’s in the wrong for wanting to avenge his dead sister?
Idk the fandom praises her for stuff that I feel they just think that are there instead of actually being there.
admittedly, i have no strong feelings about Mahiru one way or the other, she doesn't leave a very strong impression and the events of the chapter 2 trial very much steal the spotlight from her and put a majority of you emotional focus on what's going on with Peko and Fuyu. however... I feel like a lot of what you're saying is... pretty off-base? coming from someone who doesn't feel much for her at all.
while i do think her expecting the boys to act "like men" or whatever (even though it's explained by her issues with her dad) is pretty exhausting.... i wouldn't say it's so bad that it's insulting to the other girls of the cast? i mean, she never said anything to imply women are inherently weaker, but rather men should pick up some slack, again explained by her dad being a no-good.
if you compare how she feels about her mother compared to how she feels about her father, you can tell she had much more respect for her mother and thought she was strong in her own way.
and also while I agree her judging Hajime for having a perfectly reasonable reaction to the situation they're in was Bad, she was right for telling Fuyu not to seek out revenge, and he's still very much regretful about everything that happened during ch2 for the rest of the game.
Mahiru comes off as a big sister-type, but like, only to the other girls, she sticks up for them when she feels she needs to. So, you know, no offense intended at all when I say this, but perhaps maybe you're misinterpreting her a bit too much? she's certainly less offensive than Miu, that's for sure.
also is Mahiru really that praised within the fandom? she seems rather unpopular or at least a lot of people aren't that interested in her

relationship alphabet with fuyuhiko kuzuryu
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here are some relationship headcanons with fuyuhiko kuzuryu for @iateyourdoggo-part2 ! enjoy! (2/3)
tw: gn reader,
Tumblr media
A nnual - what’s something they and their s/o do together every year?
You two have a day where you both buy each other 5 to 10 things you think the other will like, and then after that whatever you guys want to! But you both have to be free on this day!
-
B ashful - are they shy in the relationship?
Most people would expect the bold and young yakuza to be the fierce one, but in reality he’s just a little softie. In public he doesn’t talk much - keeping a stern face and standing by your side. But in private he’s much more different. If he’s not busy he’ll slightly demand ask for cuddles. And once you get started theres no end to it! He’s shy in private but tries to keep a bold stance in public - proud yakuza things
-
C aptivating - what catches their interest in their s/o?
His interest started when you kept trying to speak and communicate with him. He’s only ever had peko, so he doesn’t expect anyone to try and be his friend. He’ll constantly deny hanging out with you until it’s been a while and he gives in. Reluctantly, he began to enjoy your presence and sometimes even asked to spend time with you!
-
D omestic - do they plan to settle down/start a family?
He never really gave any thoughts to it, but I think he would. Maybe a kid or two, after he’s retired from his yakuza state. Most people, again, thinks he’s some apathetic guy - and again, that's not true. So yea, maybe he would but he never really gave any thoughts to it.
-
E mpathetic - do they understand their s/o well? are they good with emotions?
He would have a rough time understanding unless you tell him your feelings directly. Some obvious movements he can tell what’s up - some others he cant. He also has a hard time saying his own feelings, he definitely tries to practice communicating with peko
-
F ight - are they willing to forgive their s/o after a fight? if so, how? (slowly, quickly, etc.)
Well if you two ever fight, he’ll always be the first to apologize. It’ll take some time,  so he’ll apologize but slowly. He’s very stubborn, it’s basically canon ASJFJDF. But he’ll probably go up to you and apologize, he’ll probably blush though. Very very tsundere like.
-
G ift - do they spoil their s/o? if so, what kind of gifts do they give?
He definitely does! His wealth is very high, so if you ever want something, it’s at your door! Like that new merch that just dropped? At your door. You mentioned how you’re too broke to get any manga/books/movies? He bought all the editions. Etc. etc.
-
H onesty - are they honest in the relationship? do they keep secrets? if they do, do they plan telling their s/o at a point?
He is honest, but he keeps some secrets to himself. He does plan to tell you, don’t worry, it's just that it's hard for him to communicate like I said before. Definitely more far into your relationship, even though its risky.
-
I nspiration - does their s/o inspire them? did their s/o help them over some obstacles?
Yes! You definitely did. You probably helped him soften up more and let his emotions flow. Thanks to you, he’s definitely relieved of some of his problems. As for obstacles, you helped him with anything he needed help with along with peko. You and peko are like his cheerleaders!
-
J ealous - do they get jealous? if so, how easily? what are their actions when jealous?
Yep, he does. Pretty easily, but he has his trust put into you as you two grow your relationship. He’ll make up some excuse and then as you two turn around he’ll glare at the person. Of course, you’ll have to communicate with him and explain yourself.
-
K iss - who initiates the first kiss?
You, definitely you. He’d be way to shy to do it, maybe he’ll ponder on it but he’s to shy to make a move. After the kiss he’ll blush and stutter a bit, but after it becomes a regular thing for you two, he’ll initiate the kisses.
-
L ove - who tells the other “I love you” first?
Again, you. It’s also likely he’ll blurt it out accidentally. Whichever you prefer ig. He’ll be in shock no matter which scenario, and probably will try and deny it a bit.
-
M arriage - do they plan to propose? if so, how and when?
Maybe, making your relationship official wasn’t a thought on his head. You were his boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other, he thought they’d already made it clear? But marriage would be nice, going along with settling down with a family.
-
N icknames - do they have pet names for their s/o?
when he’s comfortable, he’ll call you stuff like “dear” and “love”. But he’ll be a bit hesitant and will ask you weather you’re okay with it or not.
-
O bservant - do they observe their s/o often? what do they do if their s/o is happy/sad/angry/scared/etc.?
He does observe you often. He’ll notice some things like little changes in your attitude and actions. When he sees you happy he’ll slightly smile (if you two aren’t in public, and or if no one was watching)
when you’re sad, he’ll quietly come up to you with whats going on. If it was something/someone he’ll send his gang to them. If it was something like work/social media/etc. He’ll give you some cuddles and reassurance (if you’re comfortable with it), and if you’re not he’ll give you your space.
when you’re mad, he wont interfere, since he can get mad easily as well. After you’re calm again, everything would go back to normal as if nothing happened.
when you’re scared he’ll reassure you nothing bad was gonna happen and that he’d always be at your side. He’ll try and cheer you up with things you like/things that can make you happy.
-
P layful - are they playful? if so, do they pull pranks?
He’s not that playful, but he’ll tease you a bit. For example: if you fall he’ll snicker slightly before helping you up, and reminding you to be careful.
-
Q uaint - what’s something their s/o got them that makes them feel happy?
Well, for one, he’ll be happy with anything you get him, especially if it's something he’s wanted for a while. Due to him being rich, he could buy anything he wanted. But it’ll mean a lot more when from you, even if it was a little lopsided.
-
R emembrance - what was their favorite memory with their s/o?
It would probably when you two had your first kiss. The kiss was a bit awkward but it was both of yours’ first kisses. After the kiss you two had cuddled and made your relationship official with each other.
-
S ober - what would they say when drunk but not sober?
“Hey s/o, you dooo know that you mean the world to me riight? Like i cant even explaain how much you do. Your face is really pretty and you’re really kind! You’re amaazing!”
-
T idy - are they the messy one or the clean one in the relationship?
He is the clean one! Unless you’re also clean, he is definitely the clean one. Messy work spaces distract him and bother him.
-
U pset - do they get upset easily?
He does, but not with you unless its something major. Like if his coffee machine wasn’t working, he’ll probably try numerous ways to get his coffee but none of them seem to be working - so he took the easy way out and shaked it vigorously. Yep
-
V aluable - how valuable is their s/o and relationship to them?
Precious. Very very precious. Ever since you stepped into his life he sworn to not let anything bad happen to you. And if anything did, he’d think he’d be the one at fault for not protecting you and his and yours relationship.
-
W ild card - any hc or scenerio! (up to the author)
Whenever you two cuddle, he’s always the little spoon! Unless you’d prefer being the little spoon, he is! He likes it because it makes him feel safe and protected that way, instead of the other way around.
-
X enolaila - do they have a special way of communicating with their s/o? language, gestures, etc?
You guys have a special way of communicating with your eyes! Whenever you/fuyuhiko needs help or is uncomfortable or just any feeling, theres always a special look in both of yours’ eyes.
-
Y earn - how far are they willing to go for their s/o and their relationship?
Very far, he’ll go to far, far (but reasonable) lengths for it. But unless you want to quit this relationship, he will very much die for you to keep you safe.
-
Z en - what is their s/o and their favorite place/time to relax together?
Whenever he’s done with work he loves to either cuddle/do something fun with you! He can’t catch a break with his duties, but for you he’ll try to make time for! His favorite is when trying to bake with you, that either causes the house burning down or you two actually getting the hang of it

s. soulmates au for the sdr2 girls? maybe the one where what you write shows up on the other person's skin? for a female reader lol. thank you so much!!!!!!!
Yes of course! I LOVE soulmate AUs so I hope I do this justice! I wrote this in headcannon form so I hope that’s okay!
Tumblr media
Ibuki Mioda
She doodles little things on her arms a lot.
Mostly little hearts and rainbows, sometimes she writes little words like “rad” or something edgy™️.
You like to write little messages to her sometimes but you also know from communicating with her almost constantly that that’s not necessarily her speed so sometimes you draw her things like flowers and skulls.
She loves them and always shows off her arms.
“Look what Ibuki’s soulmate drew! Aren’t they just the coolest?!”
Sonia Nevermind
CEO of cute messages.
“Good morning 💖🌸”
Lots and lots of flowers and hearts. She wants you to know that she’s there and you’re loved!
You do the same for her of course!
Sometimes she forgets you can see what she writes on herself and she will write down serial killer facts that she wants to remember.
You’re left with morbid things like “Genocide Jack writes blood messages at his victim’s crime scenes” on your hand.
Mahiru Koizumi
Doesn’t write or draw things that much, as she prefers to keep her skin clean.
However, she wouldn’t be upset if you were to write or draw things.
In fact, she loves seeing new doodles on her arms.
She does like to respond occasionally, just so you know she’s there! She doesn’t want you to think you don’t have a soulmate, and she wants you to know she appreciates the notes and drawings.
But for the most part, you’re the one doing the art.
Akane Owari
Y’all probably complain to each other a lot.
Like if you’re in class (we’re assuming this isn’t in the killing school trip) you’ll complain about how you hate math, and she’ll say something about not liking to think too much.
Sometimes you’ll talk about being hungry, or give each other ideas for what to make for lunch.
You guys mostly talk about life and casual stuff, but sometimes you doodle hearts and stuff for her.
She really loves when you do that, so please keep doing it!
Hiyoko Saionji
She probably won’t say much of anything. She’s too tsundere for this stuff.
At first you thought you didn’t have a soulmate. You would try to talk to them or draw things for them but they just would not respond. You were disappointed but didn’t really think too much of it.
Then one day, you brought this up. You wrote a little note asking if there was anyone there. You just wanted to know if anyone was receiving your messages.
It wasn’t much, but you got a simple “I’m here :)”.
You were so happy! It wasn’t a lot but you were making progress! And they were out there somewhere!
Mikan Tsumiki
She writes a lot of notes to herself.
Mostly about medical things, which you have no idea what they mean (unless you do 👀) but wOAH your soulmate was SMART!!!
You would occasionally say things like “go off ig” or “ok doctor”, which would make her blush and feel a little more confident.
You two do draw each other little hearts and stuff though.
Sometimes when she was done studying and working for the day, she would talk to you a bit to relax, until one of you fell asleep or you two ran out of room to write, whichever came first.
Please encourage her, she really needs it and she loves hearing encouragement from you!
Peko Pekoyama
She’s surprisingly soft and always smiles when she sees a message or doodle from you.
She will stop whatever she’s doing (unless she’s doing something for Fuyuhiko, she can’t disobey her young master) to reply.
She draws cool things like swords and hearts with swords through them. She really likes swords.
Sometimes you’ll start a drawing and she’ll finish it, or vice versa.
Fuyuhiko knows about you and sometimes will tease her about you.
Chiaki Nanami
You guys play games like tic tac toe.
You can’t convince me otherwise.
You’ll draw things for each other and she’ll tell you about the new games she’s playing.
You’ll talk about your interests and talent, and you’ll sometimes rant and give each other advice.
But mostly you guys play Pictionary and other games together.
Hope you enjoyed this! Thanks for the fun and cute request, I loved writing it!

if you're still taking requests, how would fuyuhiko, teruteru, and kazuichi kidnap their darling?? would they behave differently afterwards?
a/n: idc fuyuhiko is my king 😩🤚
warnings: yandere, unhealthy relationships, unhealthy mindsets, unhealthy behavior, kidnapping
kuzuryu fuyuhiko
☘︎︎ hate to say it but he probably has Peko help him kidnap his darling. It’s not that he doesn’t think that he can’t do it, because he knows that he can, it’s just that it’s be a lot less messy if Peko did it. I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but they’re pretty much a packaged deal, Peko protects Fuyuhiko’s darling as if they were her own. Kidnapping his darling is a very slow process, like, months in the making kind of slow. Fuyuhiko thinks everything out and that’s why he’s one of the hardest yanderes to get away from, even if you don’t add Peko into the mix. He has a lot of connections, so Fuyuhiko definitely takes his time planning everything out before he inevitably kidnaps his darling, it’s kind of scary, actually.
☘︎︎ he definitely acts differently towards his darling afterwards, though. Fuyuhiko, before inevitably kidnapping them, was kind o a tsundere and avoided any kind of friendly interactions with them. So unless his darling is the most observant person on earth, they most likely had the idea that Fuyuhiko hated them. This isn’t true, of course, and once he realizes that they thought that, he feels extremely guilty and tries to make it up to them through gifts. Being isolated with Fuyuhiko isn’t that bad, aside from his angry tantrums when he has a bad day outside of his darling, but... he has a lot of money and I feel like he’d enjoy getting his darling things he’d know that they’d like. Things having to with their hobby or just cute things like teddy bears.
Tumblr media
hanamura teruteru
☘︎︎ he’d only really kidnap his darling if something happened like them becoming interested in someone else, he’d know about this and immediately go to lock them away. He’d always flirted with his darling and made them amazing meals with prompt to do so, Teruteru had thought that they’d get the hint and at least try to stay discreet about things like that. Kidnapping, the actual process of doing so, is very rushed with Teruteru, but this is purely because he’s panicking and paranoid that his darling is going to leave and go off with someone else. It’s quick, just him quickly knocking them out and dragging them back to his place before gently tying them down to a comfortable bed (his bed, to be precise).
☘︎︎ nothing much in his behavior changes after kidnapping his darling, but he does seem a little depressed about it. Teruteru is one of the yanderes I see desperate to have a normal relationship with his darling, so the fact that he was forced to kidnap them makes him extremely upset. However, most of his mannerisms are the same. For example, he’s still extremely flirty towards his darling, but he’s much more open about his true intentions. Being with his darling for the rest of his life is one of Teruteru’s goals and now that they have nowhere else they could possibly go, that can happen! Teruteru, while sort of guilty about kidnapping his darling, is also extremely happy because now he gets to spend all the time he wants with them!

soda kazuichi
☘︎︎ our delusional little mechanic doesn’t see this as kidnapping, not really, anyway. Kazuichi is rarely lucid, too caught up in his daydreams, so kidnapping to him is just him and his darling moving in together like a normal couple would once they hit that specific milestone in their relationship. That’s exactly how Kazuichi sees it, and if his darling ends up acting out after being kidnapped, he’ll just write it off as them being anxious over living alone with him. He thinks it’s cute! Kazuichi kidnapping his darling is such a spontaneous thing, his darling, or anyone else, will never see it coming and he’s surprisingly prepared. He has their room ready, all the necessary security, things like that. It’s just to keep them safe, so they shouldn’t worry!
☘︎︎ nothing much changes behavior wise with Kazuichi after he kidnaps his darling, it’s all pretty much the same for the most part. He just tends to seem ten times more delusional than he was before. Kazuichi’s talking about marriage the first week his darling is there and they’re no doubt confused - and probably terrified because no sane person would want to marry their captor. His delusional tendencies are destructive, of course, but they also work in his darlings favor as well. Kazuichi trusts his darling with every fiber of his being, but as he puts it, “it’s the other perverts in the world that I don’t trust”. Kazuichi’s more of a ditzy yandere, if nothing else, and the farthest thing from harmful.

Rantaro Amami
He finds you so cute if you ask me
And thinks you are really easygoing, I mean you love everybody!
You’re just so sweet
He won’t hesitate to call you cute names, too
When he first found you crying, he was confused
What happened?
“Y/n? Are you okay?”
When you told him about it he immediately went from :0 to >:0
Big brother mode activated
Ok but he’s so understanding
100% hugging you and telling you it’s okay
Also always welcoming any hug coming from you anytime
“Don’t cry anymore, Y/n, come on,” Holds you to calm you down, ugh 😭
Next time he sees them he’ll make sure to talk to them about it
You know how serious he is? Yeah, he’s like that
But for now, he’ll just make sure you’re being loved
Shuichi Saihara
Aw, you’re so sweet for his soul
You make him blush all the time-
I mean you just care so much- it makes him want to cry
And you always give him gifts, too
Adorable
He thought no soul could be mean towards you- You’re just like an angel
But welp, there you were, crying
“Hey, Y/n! There’s-.. Y/n?”
He felt upset, I mean there were times where you pouted, but you were literally crying
“Y/n, are you okay...?”
He wanted to hug you but he did want to respect your boundaries, too
But boy, did you need it
He slowly wrapped his arms around you and let you cry it out
He listened to you carefully and he was like, how?
Tries to change the subject so your mind isn’t full of bad thoughts- Probably brings you snacks or sweets
He wouldn’t leave your side until you were feeling better!
Please stop crying, he doesn’t know how to comfort you at all- he’s trying
Kokichi Ouma
How do you stand him, just asking
You’re very kind and he’s just.. The opposite?
Well sometimes he’s so sweet but most of the times he acts like a brat
But he shows you his sweet side only? Good for you? And you’re sweet to anyone?
I’m sorry but no one’s messing with you. He’s literally the president of “Y/n Love Club”
“Y/n, what’re you doing in the dark?”
He heard your little cries
Oh no
Hell no
“You’re crying?!!??!!?”
“It’s noth-” Say no more
He isn’t leaving until you’re done crying!!
Seriously he’s so clingy lmfao spoils you with lots of love and you get flustered as hell
You two gossip about the person and he can get a bit manipulative and say stuff like “Well, I wouldn’t talk to them if I were you,” he makes jokes on purpose just to make you laugh
“Don’t worry about them, Y/n! I’ll make sure they won’t get away with this.”
Kokichi, NO
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu
If you ask me, he can’t take all of this cute stuff
You’re just so wholesome- it’s too much for him
He thought you didn’t mean this at first- how could you be sweet to anyone. But boy, were you serious
And you melted his heart, too xjtjgktgkfh
He won’t admit but he thinks you’re really cute and must be protected at all cost 💞💞 Sometimes his chest hurts because you’re just being so precious
You were really sweet to anyone,, he kind of expected you to get hurt because of this
And then he saw you crying
“Oh, they did this to you?”
“Yeah... Fuyuhiko, what’s that?”
“It’s just my gun”
I-
For now he’ll let Peko handle this
“Y/n Protection Squad”
If you need affection that moment, that’s what he’ll do
You’ll be his number one priority but the next day he’ll have a friendly talk with the person made you upset
Kaito Momota
He loves you so much!!! Ahjdjcngjdxjxjfjc!!4+-&&;&!😭😭😭
He thinks he’s dating an angel, a god, a goddess, historia reiss-
He even names the stars after you-
You’re too good for him
He gets soo cheesy with you and gives you embarrassing nicknames all the time

Behind the Scenes of “Hologram”
Today marks exactly one year since I posted arguably my most popular fic. “Hologram” is a postgame Saiouma one-shot about escapism, loneliness, and running away from the past. I put a lot of myself into this fic and I’m blown away by all the love it’s received, not only on AO3 but in Discord servers and other social media. All that excitement made me keep thinking about it, so I thought I’d share a (very self-indulgent) behind-the-scenes of sorts about how I wrote it, as well as what I think of the story.
This essay will contain spoilers for the whole fic, so if you’d like to read it first, you can find it here. Of course, if the tags scare you off, that’s valid, but you might want to skip this post too since I’ll be quoting it throughout (so, just to be safe, expect the warnings I’ve posted on AO3 to apply here too).
If you’re a Lorde fan you’ll recognize the lyrics in the fic summary – “Nothing’s wrong when nothing’s true,” from “Buzzcut Season.” The inspiration for this fic came to me while I was on my way to an early shift at work, and I needed a good song in my head to give me the will to live for the next eight hours. Not sure why I chose that song in particular, but maybe part of it is because I like imagining stories to go along with the songs I listen to, like AMVs playing in my head, and I’d never been able to pin down exactly what this song reminded me of.
The mood of the music is really what compelled me – there’s something lonely about it, and the lyrics sound like the singer’s trying to convince herself that everything’s okay even when all evidence points otherwise. There are “explosions on TV”, and “The men up on the news / They try to tell us all that we will lose,” but “we live beside the pool / Where everything is good.” Despite everything going wrong, despite the notes of fear creeping into the pre-chorus, the character will “play along… in a hologram with you” and “never go home again.”
From there, it was an easy jump to “postgame Saiou” and that was that.
There’s a cloud of seagulls hovering in the air around him, and a dozen or so more standing just out of reach, staring him down with beady black eyes. Kokichi takes a slice of bread from the loaf he’s holding and tosses it to one of the birds, watches it catch it and stumble under the weight, watches its head bob as it tries to swallow the whole thing at once. It gets remarkably far before four other birds descend on it, shrieking wildly.
“Mine, mine, mine,” he mumbles into his folded arms, wondering if Shuichi would get the reference.
He really wishes Shuichi was here.
Kokichi upends the rest of the loaf of bread onto the sidewalk and laughs at the resulting chaos until his chest aches.
To start off, I wanted to create the same lonely mood from “Buzzcut Season” in Kokichi’s simulation. He’s not exactly trapped there, but he’s refusing to leave, because as long as he’s on the fake Jabberwock Island, he can pretend the killing game never happened. The trade-off to that escapism is that the only people he can talk to are the NPCs, who aren’t complex enough to be remotely interesting to him, and Usami, who… well, tries her best, but is more of an informational / moderation program and can’t offer him what a therapist could.
The only thing Kokichi has to look forward to is Shuichi, who he’s convinced is an extremely lifelike computer program rather than the real thing, because the real Shuichi would definitely hate him for everything that happened during the killing game. He’s so locked into this line of logic that he doesn’t let himself consider that Shuichi has forgiven him – he doesn’t even have a good answer for why the Future Foundation wouldn’t just keep the supposed Shuichi AI on indefinitely, believing it’s their way of baiting him into leaving the simulation.
It’s not a healthy or sustainable lifestyle in the slightest, but Kokichi stubbornly refuses to do anything but wander the islands aimlessly, passing the time with ice cream and feeding seagulls until the next time he can see Shuichi.
He dreams that DICE is here in the simulation with him, smiling and carefree as they explore the weird music venue. One of them has gotten the karaoke machine working, and another found a box of kazoos and maracas in the back room. Kokichi already pities anyone unfortunate enough to walk by the building tonight.
“Not going to sing, Joker?” one of his DICE asks (over the sound of their youngest member shrieking through seven kazoos at once), sitting on the bench next to him.
“Some games are more fun to watch than play,” he answers, leaning back on his hands and sighing.
           “Like a killing game.”
The warm dream-atmosphere turns cold then, and Kokichi’s head snaps over to look at him—but his brother is gone and Kaito’s looking back at him instead, blood in his teeth and face ashen pale.
“You... we don’t have to do this, man,” Kaito says, but it’s a lie and they both know it, and he doesn’t want to look behind him because he knows the machine’s looming over him with its unyielding steel and slow slow slow descent—
“You’re not real,” he snaps at dream-Kaito, who doesn’t respond except to lift him up again. “Nothing’s real, none of—PUT ME DOWN! LET GO OF ME! DON’T PUT ME BACK IN THERE!”
“Death is more mercy than you deserve,” Kaito says, and Kokichi claws and bites and kicks his way out of Kaito’s grasp like a wild animal, only to end up in front of a prison cell full of—
DICE, his beloved DICE, trapped and hurt and afraid, bloodied and beaten and helpless.
“Why didn’t you save us, boss?” says his second-in-command, clutching the bars with bleeding hands. “Why didn’t you do more? Now we’re all dead and it’s because of you.”
Moments like this are my reference to Buzzcut Season’s pre-chorus, where the not-okay starts to creep into the illusion. Despite Kokichi’s valiant efforts to forget, he’s still dealing with the aftermath of seeing his family hurt and in danger, watching his friends die, orchestrating the deaths of two of them, being killed himself— and then being told every bit of it was made up to entertain an audience who sees nothing wrong with that picture. Running away is not the way to heal from trauma, and one day soon it’s all bound to come crashing down around him.
“Do you know what this … island paradise represents, Kokichi?” [Hinata] asks, and Kokichi’s really not in the mood for a lecture but he continues anyway. “Jabberwock Island … was the setting for the fiftieth season of Danganronpa. The golden anniversary, they called it. It was my season.”
Kokichi hunches over, hugging his arms over his torso and stifiling a scream. He does not want to think about this right now—
“They wanted it to be the best season of all, which, unfortunately for us, meant it was also the bloodiest,” Hinata says. “Twice as many participants, deadly traps hidden across each of the islands— they even changed the way the motives worked, like when they told Fuyuhiko to cut out his own eye so Peko could have a quick death instead of suffering for days.”
“Do I look like your therapist, porcupine-head?” Kokichi hisses. A sharp pain is pounding into his skull, and there’s a bitter, metallic taste at the back of his throat. A taste like poison and blood.
“There was so much going on that the simulation malfunctioned,” Hinata says. “When people died, their Ultimate talents downloaded themselves into me. I’m told that the stress of so many personality grafts came close to liquefying my frontal lobe. I’m lucky I woke up at all… especially considering more than half of the others didn’t.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Kokichi grates out through the static building in his head. If he opens his eyes, will he see the beach or the dull chrome of the machine closing in on him?
“Because I know how much you want to forget about what happened,” Hinata says. “Believe me, I get it.”
           ….
“These things that happened to us… we can’t erase them, no matter how much we want to. Some things have to be remembered.”
I’d mostly like to leave Hajime’s season up to interpretation, but there are a couple things I wanted to say about it. I imagine Danganronpa is like the Hunger Games in that it’d go all out for big anniversaries. So, there were twice as many participants for the Jabberwock Island beatdown that was probably subtitled “Bloodbath Bay” or something equally appealing. The game’s formula changed from a focus on the mystery and the trials to “look at all these kids massacring each other a la Lord of the Flies,” and since the VR system wasn’t equipped to handle that many people and their deaths, it malfunctioned, giving Hajime way too many Ultimate talents and putting half the cast into comas from which they never woke up.
Viewers either absolutely loved or absolutely hated this season, depending on whether they were DR fans because of the “blood n’ guts” factor or the “mystery and psychological thriller” aspect. Team Danganronpa faced quite a bit of backlash for actually causing the real-life deaths of half its participants, but were able to weasel their way out of serious legal repercussions because of the waivers the participants had signed beforehand (plus a lot of bribery and falling back on their longstanding popularity). So, the cast of Season 50 failed to end the killing game, but helped provide great evidence for the “Danganronpa is morally wrong” argument.
Hajime works as a victim liaison for the Future Foundation and has been trying to take down Danganronpa since he got out of it. He’s like that in a few of my fics, actually; I like the idea of Hajime acting as a big brother of sorts to the V3 cast. It’s especially entertaining to imagine his interactions with Kokichi— though maybe not so much in Hologram, since to Kokichi he’s a representation of the past he’s trying so desperately to forget and the future he refuses to acknowledge.
“SHUT UP!” He launches himself at Hinata, his hands wrapping around the other man’s throat as he uses his momentum to slam him to the ground. “SHUT! UP!”
“Ko— ghk—” Hinata coughs, eyes wide with surprise, but aside from moving his hands up to grip Kokichi’s wrists, he doesn’t seem all that worried about fighting back.
The thought only fuels Kokichi’s rage until he’s choking Hinata so hard his knuckles are white. “If you want me out of this simulation so badly, you can kill me,” he snarls. “I’m never waking up! I’m never leaving, do you UNDERSTAND ME?”
Hinata grimaces, the outline of his avatar flickering, but he still doesn’t struggle, and Kokichi hates him all the more for it, despises him with a seething malice that festers low in his stomach. He wonders distantly if he’d actually kill this man in real life. Or if he’d be able to stop himself, feeling like this.
Kokichi’s breakdown here is more out of fear than anger. Like I mentioned, Kokichi sees Hajime as another piece of what’s hurt him, and no matter how Hajime tries to help, Kokichi will always remember Danganronpa whenever he sees him.
Warm yellow-orange light casts a relaxed, cozy glow over the dining hall. It’s an ambience compounded by the flickering candles on the table, which seems overly idyllic, but Kokichi will let it slide because of the adorable way Shuichi flushed when he noticed them as they sat down. Well, if he’s being honest, everything about Shuichi right now is adorable, from the way his hair keeps falling into his eyes to the way he’s nervously fiddling wth his chopsticks. Kokichi wishes he could keep staring at him forever.
Ah, not… not in a weird way, though, just… because Shuichi’s beautiful, and when Kokichi looks at him he can forget everything bad that’s ever happened, can create some new and brighter world to exist in.
This is an idea I wish I’d had room to explore a bit more in the story— that is, just how far Kokichi will go to pretend everything’s fine. I thought about making him border on delusional, like having him talk to people who aren’t there or forget what’s actually happening around him because he’s so lost in his fiction-within-a-fiction. It would have creeped Shuichi out a whole lot.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t much room for that past the plot I’d already nailed down, so I focused on his loneliness and escapism instead. I do touch on it later in this scene, though— the couple paragraphs where he slips into fantasizing about being a phantom thief having a surreptitious meeting with his detective under the not-so-subtle supervision of his DICE. There would have been a lot more of that if I’d gone with the ‘delusion’ stylistic choice, to the point where even the readers would be confused about what’s real. Maybe I’ll look into writing something similar in a future story.
Eventually, Shuichi sets down his bowl and looks away with a little sigh, and Kokichi clenches his teeth because that’s the sigh he does when it’s time for that conversation.
           “Um… Kokichi?”
Kokichi’s only response is to exhale the breath he’d been holding in a quiet hiss.
“I-I know you don’t want to, but… but I really need to talk to you about something,” Shuichi says. “Please?”
“My Mr. Detective can talk about whatever he’d like!” Kokichi says with a lilt to his tone that makes it sound more sarcastic than he wants it to. He takes the last bite of curry and wishes that it burns hot enough to hurt.
           “It’s about Kaito.”
This more serious part of the date scene is meant to reflect the little bridge in “Buzzcut Season”:
“Cola with the burnt-out taste
I’m the one you tell your fears to
There’ll never be enough of us.”
It’s a part of the song that sounds especially bittersweet to me, a bit of self-awareness between the insistence that everything’s okay.
Really all I think I managed was to reference it when Kokichi’s internal dialogue comments on his drink being “so sweet it tastes burnt” and then later not tasting like anything. But hopefully the mood’s still there.
“Tell him… that I have nothing against him,” he says.
           “That’s … not a lie?” Shuichi presses.
Kokichi shakes his head idly, still not raising his gaze. “I wanted to wreck the killing game and he wanted to save his friend. We both got what we wanted. I’d say the end more than justifies the means.”
           Was that a lie?
(I don’t want to die Shuichi I’m sorry I’m sorry save me Shuichi please I’m sorry ithurtsmakeitstop—)
His fingers tighten into clawlike shapes, nails digging sharply into his forearms.
I really don’t think Kokichi would have anything against Kaito, even if here he’s not being completely honest with how much he’s affected by what happened. It wouldn’t make sense to him to hate Kaito for something he himself proposed, but I think there’d still be a subconscious barrier between them. Too much history.
“Don’t go, Shuichi, I’m so sorry, I— that was so dumb, what I said, please don’t be sad anymore.” He’s not sure if he can’t breathe because of the exertion of running or because of the hysteria boiling over in his head. “Please don’t go, I didn’t mean to hurt you— please don’t leave, Shuichi, I’m so sorry.”
“Oh, Kokichi….” Shuichi’s tone is strange, soft and pitying, like he sees something Kokichi doesn’t, and he shakes his head slowly as more tears follow the paths of the others.
Kokichi goes to his knees, ready to grovel if that’s what it takes, but Shuichi follows him down, closing his other hand over Kokichi’s, and then they’re both crying and he doesn’t know why, and all he can do is repeat a mantra of I’m sorry and hold on as tight as he can.
It’s horrible. Shuichi’s horrible. Shuichi’s wonderful, and kind and lovely and perfect and Kokichi hates him, Kokichi adores him, and it doesn’t matter because Shuichi’s not actually here but Kokichi doesn’t want to be alone, just let me pretend some more, please, please let me have this—
“I’ll… I’ll stay,” Shuichi says at last. “I can stay a while longer.”
You shouldn’t, Kokichi wants to say, but his mouth won’t obey him. You shouldn’t stay if you don’t want to. I don’t deserve having you here. I’m not worth your mercy.
But there on the bridge, crying tears of relief, he soaks up as much mercy as he can get and hopes it’s enough to drown him.
I wanted to create a contrast between them that highlights just how the isolation and trauma Kokichi’s experiencing has affected him. He has an almost unhealthy reliance on Shuichi as “the only thing that makes this world bearable,” and panics when faced with the prospect of being alone again so soon. Part of why Shuichi’s crying is because he’s realized the extent of Kokichi’s desperation. It’s not that he thinks Kokichi’s apology is insincere, but that he’s hardly heard him apologize for anything before, so Kokichi going this far has him realizing how bad things really are.
The door rumbles and slides open when they approach, revealing the bright light of the log-out point that took Shuichi away every time, that would wake Kokichi up in his real body if he walked into it. Shuichi stops just a step away from it, biting his lip as if searching for something to say, but before he can find it, Kokichi reaches out to tug at his sleeve.
“Shuichi?” he says, distant as the waves on the beach that he can still hear if he listens closely enough. Shuichi turns back toward him. “Before you go, can I be selfish one more time?”
           “Huh…?”
Shuichi doesn’t move when Kokichi steps closer, reaches up to ghost his fingertips over Shuichi’s jaw and around the back of his neck. He lets Kokichi tilt his head downward, lets him hover inches away, close enough to feel their breath mingle in the night air. Kokichi pauses there to give him the chance to pull away. He doesn’t.
So Kokichi closes his eyes and the distance between them.
That last line is a ZEUGMA! It’s a literary device where one word refers to two more in a different way. A popular example is the hyenas’ line “Our teeth and ambitions are bared” from The Lion King. It’s my favorite grammatical trick and I’d love to see more of it in fanfic.
Slowly, he slides his hand down to Shuichi’s shoulder, using it as leverage to push himself away. That hurts even more. He can’t seem to open his eyes, and he feels so weakened, breathless, fragile. Cracked open, hollowed out.
When he finally does open his eyes, Shuichi’s are wide with some mix of astonishment and a dozen other emotions. Kokichi bows his head, taking a deep breath to ground himself. “Sorry,” he whispers. “I just wanted to know.”
“Kokichi,” Shuichi breathes, like a bullet through his heart.
“Goodbye, Shuichi,” Kokichi says, and shoves him into the light.
Shuichi’s little yelp of surprise cuts off abruptly as he falls through the door, vanishing into the glow, and all too soon, Kokichi’s alone again in a dream that suddenly seems far too vast. Alone, with the faintest taste of Shuichi’s lips still lingering on his own.
And he thinks, It was enough just to know you.
           It’s a lie.
Nothing to say here except that this is my favorite scene and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
Fake sun rises over fake ocean, fake seagulls glide through fake sky while fake wind tousles fake palm fronds. Kokichi lies on his stomach in the fake grass and talks to his fake family in the fake notebook. Gives them fake names and runs through everything he remembers about them. Apologizes, over and over, wishes he could hug each of them goodbye one last time. Wonders if it would be more painful to die or to never have existed at all.
He leaves the notebook of his memories on the seat of one of the Ferris wheel cars on the fourth island, because one time he promised them they’d steal the London Eye together.
He buys a can of fake soda from the fake convenience store on the first island and sits on the fake beach watching the fake waves. Wonders when he’d hit the end of the simulation if he started swimming, or if he’d drown first.
White sand, blue sea, bluer sky. Washed out, like an amateur watercolor painting.
He opens the soda can and raises it to his mouth, but … even the thought of drinking it makes him sick to his stomach. He sets it down in the sand and flicks it over, watching the bubbly liquid run down and sink into the sand. The color’s all wrong, like blood streaked against a metal floor.
He walks the fake streets of the fifth island, passing fake skyscrapers and fake commuters and their fake conversations, until he finally stops outside the factory he’s never been able to bring himself to go into. Smells like oil, and metal and machines and he can hear the sounds and he’s immediately back in the hangar, dizzy on adrenaline and desperation and leaning heavily on Kaito so he doesn’t keel over and die then and there. Kaito says something about how maybe he should sit down for a minute, and Kokichi didn’t agree back then but he does now, goes down on all fours and dry heaves.
When his vision solidifies and he can stop gasping for breath, he sits up and presses his back against the factory wall, covering his ears and hiding his face in his knees. Tries to convince himself not to imagine Shuichi’s there with him, holding his hand again, promising everything’s going to be okay.
“I’ve got you. No one’s going to hurt you anymore,” or maybe, “Breathe with me, it’ll be over soon. You’re safe now.”
           I love you.
He laughs until there’s nothing left in his lungs. He called these little daydreams obsession, before, but now they just seem sick and insane.
I wanted to indicate throughout this scene that Kokichi’s gotten substantially worse. Instead of halfheartedly interacting with the NPCs or finding something to spend time doing, he’s aimlessly wandering the islands, focused on how fake all of it is. Not even talking to his sketches of DICE can make him feel better. The suicidal ideation starts to slip in even if he doesn’t realize it— a fixation on wondering what death is like, purposefully triggering himself by walking by the factory….
The thing I want to talk about most though is the italicized I love you. I left it outside of quotation marks and dialogue tags on purpose because I wanted it to be ambiguous as to who’s saying it. If it’s Kokichi’s line, it’s sudden and almost out of place, like he couldn’t hold back from thinking it anymore. But it could be Shuichi saying it, too. Since it’s outside quotation marks, unlike the previous dream-Shuichi lines, it’s more vague, almost a whisper in Kokichi’s thoughts— like he can barely bring himself to imagine it and even feels guilty doing so, because there’s no way it could possibly be real.
           Which do you think?
Eh, I don’t have an answer. When I hear it in my head, they say it at the same time.
“How did you know?” he finally croaks.
Shuichi’s breathing still sounds shaky, too. “Because you said ‘goodbye,’” he says.
Kokichi finally looks up at him in a silent question.
“You never say goodbye,” Shuichi says, rubbing his sleeve over his eyes. “It’s always….”
“‘See you later,’” Kokichi finishes for him. Despite himself, a tiny huff of astonished laughter escapes him. “I didn’t even know, not until a couple of hours ago. And you figured it all out from one word?”
Shuichi bites his lip at that. “You kissed me,” he says.
Kokichi’s stomach twists and he looks away. “I said I was sorry—”
“No.” Shuichi squeezes his hand into a fist and lets it fall to thump against Kokichi’s chest, like he’s trying to knock some sense into him. “It was so honest, and vulnerable, and… and I know how much you hate showing how you really feel.” Another tiny sob catches in his throat. “And so it felt like … like something you’d do if you weren’t going to s-see me again.”
“Shuichi….” Kokichi trails off as Shuichi muffles his cries in his hand again. He’s so breathtakingly smart. There’s no one else in the world who thinks that way, no one else who could possibly be that attentive and that clever. Not a programmer, not a team of shrinks… how can an AI manage it? How is it that Shuichi always manages to take him by surprise? How can he see straight through him when he least expects it?
Kokichi’s hand reaches up to Shuichi’s cheek. Reverently traces the path of the tears falling down it.
“I wish you were real,” he confesses in a whisper.
Kokichi’s stubborn. So, so stubborn. And he’s not used to being cared about, if the way he does everything by himself is any indication. So it makes sense to me that he’ll refuse to believe anything good can happen to him even in the face of convincing evidence. He’s pretty self-hating for someone so arrogant.
Kokichi’s weak, deep down to his core, weak for this man. Already knows he’d do anything for him, and the thought is terrifying—that one person could have that much power over him, even if he doesn’t realize it.
But what if he has realized it? Couldn’t this all be an elaborate ruse, a lie he knew Kokichi would be so desperate to believe that he wouldn’t bother questioning it?
…Shuichi’s never hurt him, though. Only that one time, when he really deserved it. Shuichi wouldn’t … betray him, even for what he thinks is Kokichi’s own good. They’re… different from each other, that way.
           But still….
“I’m so scared, Shuichi.” It’s barely a whisper. “I don’t want to be alone anymore.”
“You won’t be.” It’s so hard to be skeptical, lost in his eyes. “I’ll be right there with you, for as long as you want. I won’t let you feel like this anymore.”
Promise me, he wants to blurt out. Promise you’ll stay. Promise me you’ll never leave me, Shuichi, he wants to demand, but that’s wrong, that’s manipulative and selfish and everything he doesn’t want to be for Shuichi anymore.
Shuichi, of course, says it anyway.
           “I promise, Kokichi.”
…
“Kiss me again,” he says. “Please?”
Shuichi leans in close, then pauses, his brow furrowing the way it does when he catches him in a lie.
“I’ll kiss you again in the real world,” Shuichi says. “Okay?”
Kokichi shakes his head. “Shuichi, please.” Please, I don’t think I can do this. Please, I don’t want to wake up to a lie. Please, one last kiss for me to remember in case it was all fake.
Shuichi reaches out to tilt his chin up and Kokichi closes his eyes, savoring every second, burning it into his memory.
Shuichi’s soft breath ghosts over his lips.
           “Trust me,” he murmurs.
Kokichi’s eyes flutter back open, searching his face. Shifting him around on the white board in his head, seeing what categories he fits into this time. Weird, of course. Suspicious, maybe not. Trustworthy?
           Trustworthy….
“I do trust you,” he realizes.
Kokichi’s still hesitant to accept all of this— Shuichi kissing him didn’t magically fix everything. He’ll still doubt all the way to the log-out point, but at least now he realizes that this simulation is only hurting him— that if things are to get better they’re going to have to change, too. He’s got a long way to go before he’s all right, but he’s not going to have to face it alone anymore.
             And that’s a wrap!
Once again, I’m really proud of this story, and I feel like I grew as a writer because of it. There are a few things I would change if I wrote it again, but for all its flaws it’s still my baby and I like how it turned out.
Thanks again for all your support for “Hologram,” and thanks even more if you actually waded through all this nonsense of a director’s cut. It’s a huge confidence-boost to think that people liked what I wrote, and even wanted to hear what I had to say about it. If there’s any interest, I’d love to review some of my other fics here, or theorize or brainstorm or whatever else  you’re into. (Ask me what Byakuya’s Thing is in my superhero AU, I dare you 😉)
I do have a WIP in my folder of bits and pieces currently titled “boy finally gets that kiss”, and it’s a post-Hologram scene from Shuichi’s point of view to just sorta… tie it all together, have them talk things over again… and kiss, of course. We’ll see if anything comes out of that.
           Until next time!
