listen life in australia is pretty damn good but you cannot just go for a leisurely walk in the woods here, because you will get bitten by a lethal spider or snake and die. I see all these shows and movies featuring people just chilling in the woods and I’m like… nup

Bold of JKR to assume we'd find Snape unattractive, based on her description of a hook-nosed, black-haired, sallow-skinned, thin dude
Miss ma'am.
I am Italian. That is what most men in my country look like. That is literally what my dating pool is.
Ma'am.
Please.

There are three certainties that Fit knows in the world - death, pain, and the Murder which follows Philza Minecraft. While their friendship has waned and waxed over the years, strongest now that they are trapped together in this hellish paradise, he knows it nearly as intimately as he knows the man.
In the spring, the crows disperse about their way, to breed and feast and whatever else black death-birds do. A few always remain with Philza, but only a few, breeding and summering where-ever he decides to rest.
It is not strange, then, to only see the five birds trailing after Philza on the Island; Fit is certain there are more, spread about and hidden, but the flocks will not combine until the weather turns, and then they shall descend upon their master as a giant black swarm to block out even the sky.
So neither is it so strange when Monday rolls around, and Fit does not see any crows swooping in; their father is being lazy, sleeping in his sealed bunker now he has no children to entertain. The five or so crows will be entertaining themselves with stealing wheat and harassing spawn, maybe stealing chips of quartz from the Federation train station if they feel especially adventurous. Philza being asleep so long is a little strange, but the man needs it - he was up late helping with the Maze, Fit knows, and depression has hit them all hard with their children gone.
But then that night the weather turns. A storm blows through, the air takes on a chill, and almost as though by clockwork the leaves fade to red and brown.
Morning comes with a slight ground fog, but not a thick one. It makes Fit crave apple pies, and that enough is to know that autumn is here.
Instinctively, he turns his gaze to the sky, looking for the blacken stain which follow in autumn's wake.
The sun is weak, the sky is cloudy, but the air is clear.
Philza lives not so far away; the crows should be swarming now, with a murder large enough to blot out the very sun.
Fit's stomach drops, and he feels vaguely sick. No matter how hard he scans the sky, the answer remains the same; autumn has come, but the crows have not come in to roost.
Something is wrong.
Something is very wrong, and FitMC of 2b2t has no idea what it might be.

question: how did you discover/get into scooby doo?
this is something i'm always so interested to hear, being that there are few people who don't have at least some small tie to the franchise. whether you would consider it one of your biggest current interests or it's just something nostalgic from your childhood, i'd love to know how you found scooby and what it means to you!
#for me it was my dad! he grew up with the original show and wanted to introduce it to me#so one day when i was maybe? seven?? he came home with the winter wonderdog dvd and we watched it that night#from there we watched every single scooby doo movie that had ever been made#and got the new ones as they came out in subsequent years!#watching a new scooby movie with my dad every weekend are honestly some of my favourite childhood memories#also what's new scooby doo had also started airing on one of the main cartoon channels here in the uk around 2010#so that's the show i watched the most consistently as a kid#velma was my original favourite of the gang because i looked a lot like her (big glasses/same haircut/etc.)#people would always compare me to her and it genuinely gave me a lot of confidence in my appearance that stays with me to this day#but fred was always my firm second favourite - he made me laugh the most of any character#and took on a deeper meaning to me in my adolescence when i realised i was autistic and strongly identified with his portrayals as such#the characters are probably what's kept me coming back all this time - they've been with me forever#and i love them individually + as a team who support each other with their unique skills and love for one another#but also the wacky adventures and general aesthetic#many people joke about the basic plot being the same every time but it makes my autistic brain happy#i love permanence and consistency baby!!!!!#and the different variations on that same formula always keep things fresh and fun#anyway ramble over#looking forward to hearing you guys' responses! :D#scooby doo#nem misc posts :]

Been thinking about bullet train and it's costume design (and why it's so good) for a while now so some thoughts about lemon + tangerine and their clothes I guess. this got a bit long so i'll put it under a cut
so I think the reason Tangerine's outfit works so well is it tells us so much not only about who he is but who he WANTS to be, it instantly evokes that kinda 80s gangster east end vibe, but the little details like the banker collar show that it's more the image he's trying maintain than it is who he actually is. I've thought a lot about that quote from the costume designer Sarah Evelyn about how the suit is to "contain the beast", and how he loses that veneer as the film goes on and his outfit gets more ruffled and, literally starts coming apart as the job goes wrong (even starting as early on as his top button being undone after he & lemon realise they've lost the case), his outward appearance starting to match his actual personality
in comparison, at first glance I didn't think Lemon's outfit was telling us as much about his characterisation, or his relationship to his image + clothes (like, he's not in a suit like tangerine is, so does he just not care as much about what he wears like tangerine does?)
but I've been thinking about it a lot while picking outfits for him (for a Lemon & Tangerine fashion zine project I'm working on, as it goes) and I don't think that's the case - his outfit is neat and well put together too! he literally wants people to see the tie he picked out for his outfit even if it comes across dodgy as hell with the blood on his shirt!! he has a fairly eclectic/unconventional style, what with the double denim and the suspenders, his accessories are practical instead of showy (the smartwatch he wears vs tangerine's rolex), and I think what that shows is that he's completely comfortable with his look, and has a kind of confidence in himself that tangerine Does Not possess. He has no desire to present himself as a Mr Big type character like tangerine, he has nothing to prove to anyone (or himself) like tangerine does
and then I think that confidence is even more interesting when you consider the context, in particular of Lemon as a black man (in this instance in Japan), and growing up in the UK alongside tangerine - does that confidence stem from his personality? or was it something learned? (or, maybe most likely, a bit of both?) and what does it say about tangerine and how he relates to the culture they were raised in that his look is based off the prototypical businessman (of the kind he probably didnt have as a role model in his immediate family/life)? I don't necessarily have the answers nor am I actually smart enough to say anything meaningful about it I just think it's super interesting thinking about these two within the context of the UK esp wrt class issues lol
ANYWAY this got a bit rambly I just love the costume design in bullet train so much!!!! I think it's even more pronounced with how the movie takes place over such a short space + time and everyone only really has one main design, it's almost cartoony/anime-esque (in a good way). everyone has a unique style and the characterisations and designs are so well entwined it makes everyone so memorable in a way i think few action films do. And I love the tiny details you probably won't even notice on a first watch, it just shows how much thought and care went into everything, I admire the costume + hair + makeup departments and what the cast all brought to it so! much!! love the fast train movie so much man

What’s the vibe on Rick being raised Christian and having some sort of trauma with it?
Obviously him being an aggressive atheist is a big thing but then we also see things like him desperately praying in the S2 premiere when he thinks he’s going to die because his collar won’t work/he gave his collar to Morty which is… not a response you would expect from someone who is so insistent he doesn’t believe in god and has no prior relationship with religion. Not to mention moments like in Anatomy Park when he tells the family that ‘Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, was born today’ (which is obviously played for laughs but still).
Also people picked up on the fact that Morty claims he was raised ‘non-denominational Christian’ in Rick: A Mort Well Lived, which seems to be at odds with what we see with the family currently - neither Beth nor Jerry seem overly religious. However, if Rick had a Christian upbringing of his own, this could have been passed on to Beth in some form or another.
I also wonder if Rick did genuinely continue to believe in god/Christianity to some extent until he lost Beth and Diane - since this was an event that caused a lot of change to his character and worldview, it would also make sense that this could shift his religious viewpoints from Christian (whether 100% or just to a smaller extent) to atheist, since he couldn’t believe in a loving god who would allow this to happen. Additionally, Rick being ‘the smartest man in the universe’ is often related to or even used interchangeably with his status as god-like, and this was the first time he saw true evidence of this power from another Rick, which would also challenge any beliefs he may have had in god.
I think it’s also worth pointing out Toxic Rick’s line in Rest and Ricklaxation: ‘You think anyone but me could do it in a million years? You think if god was real he could do it? The answer is no, if god exists it’s fucking me!’ This is a part of himself that ‘regular’ Rick considers toxic, which we can interpret both as (the more obvious and canon-accurate) Rick disliking his own ego and god-complex as well as these concepts and actions in other Ricks, and also as him viewing these ‘blasphemous’ ideas as toxic.
I’m sure other people have pointed all of these things out before and better than me, but I just find it interesting.
#rick and morty#rick and morty spoilers#rnm#rnm spoilers#rick: a mort well lived#rick a mort well lived#rick sanchez#christianity#religion#religious trauma#how do i tag this#also disclaimer since i feel like it’s relevant#i was born and raised in the uk in a non religious family#although i went to a catholic primary school so was a catholic for a few years of my childhood#and now would consider myself an atheist#but not in a way that’s negative towards religious people or anything#i just personally don’t think there’s a god#but obviously my outlook on this is influenced by the culture i grew up in#also since my family is not religious but i was catholic at a young age i’m not always clear what’s catholicism vs christianity#also this post was inspired because i rewatched s2e1 and found it odd how rick was praying so fervently#for a supposed atheist#and i feel like it wasn’t really played for laughs that much compared to other instances?#and i had a lot of thoughts lol#anyway please let me know any thoughts or if i’ve said anything wrong#i wanted to talk about his mexican heritage a bit since i think mexico is a very christian country?#but i’m not informed enough about it so i didn’t say it#also i know the show has a very very strong atheist outlook overall#but i think it’s important to respect people’s religions#(obviously excluding extremism eg cults or forcing your beliefs on other people or using it to justify bigotry)#so nothing is intended to be negative in that way

Heyyyy do u have any wlw/GL film recs it can be dramas movies anything at this point im so desperate 😭
Hello!!!! Thanks for the ask! I love the topic haha. I'm going to give you 8 recs, I hope you like them! (synopses taken from imdb) The Handmaiden / 아가씨 (2016) A woman is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, but secretly she is involved in a plot to defraud her
Tumblr media
I don't think I've watched this movie since it came out, so my memory is a little fuzzy. I remember thinking it was brilliant and entertaining; I found the plot and characters to be compelling and I was really rooting for Lady Hideko to get a happy ending. The cinematography is so delicious, as is the romantic tension between the lead female characters. However, I did find the sex scenes to be a little... not to my taste but my opinion might have changed in the last few years
Colette (2018) Colette is pushed by her husband to write novels under his name. Upon their success, she fights to make her talents known, challenging gender norms
Tumblr media
A Historical biopic about the life of Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. It's another movie I haven't seen since it came out but I also enjoyed it. Although married to a man (who is also a dickhead), Colette has relationships with women, most notably, Missy, who is male presenting. (I don't remember if Missy's gender is ever defined in the movie, so I'm not sure if "women" is the correct term to use when describing them. I might be misgendering them as the real-life Missy, Mathilde de Morny, did go by Max/Uncle Max in their later years.)
Tumblr media
The Favourite (2018) In early 18th-century England, the status quo at the court is upset when a new servant arrives and endears herself to a frail Queen Anne
Tumblr media
Here we have another biopic, this time it's about the relationship between Queen Anne, Sarah Churchill, and Abigail Masham. I adore this movie! It's soooo fantastic to see queer women be so ruthless, cunning, terrible and desperate. Gosh, I love how love and ambition are depicted throughout. It's fantastic! All three female leads are excellent.
Atomic Blonde (2017) An undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents
Tumblr media
Charlize Theron plays a bisexual baddie in a spy action movie where she is hunted down by James McAvoy?? Yes please and thank you!
Shiva Baby (2020) At a Jewish funeral service with her parents, a college student runs into her sugar daddy and ex-girlfriend
Tumblr media
This is one of my favourite movies. It is a horror dressed up as a comedy. THE INTENSITY is sooo unreal that it inspired me to write an original story! I love everything about it! Plus, YES to bisexual and sex-work representation!
Bend it like Beckham (2002) Two ambitious girls, despite their parents' wishes, have their hearts set on careers in professional soccer
Tumblr media
Yes, the main character ends up with the male love interest. But this movie is still soooo queer! Jess and Jules are gay for one another, I don't make the rules! Kiera Knightley wanted them to be together and so did everyone else. If they ever made a sequel (which they should), it could be about them reuniting and getting together. I watched this movie soooooo many times growing up.... lol Calamity Jane (1953) The story of Calamity Jane, her saloon, and her romance with Wild Bill Hickok
Tumblr media
Another biopic but this time, it's a musical haha. Okay, yes, Jane ends up with a man and yes, the real Calamity Jane was married twice in her life to men. But when I watched this as a child, it awaken something in me. The movie is so queer-coded, I could see it even as a little child who didn't know what queer was yet. I haven't seen it in over a decade, maybe more, but it left a huge impression on me. Plus, The Windy City and A Woman's Touch are absolutely certified jams. (side note: when I watched A Woman's Touch for the first time, I remember thinking that I wouldn't mind living in a cabin with my best "gal friend" 😂) Now for a TV show I watched growing up (when I was WAY too young to be watching something so adult) that made me feel the feels:
Sugar Rush (2005) 15-year-old Kim has just moved to Brighton and developed an earth-shattering, hormone-surging crush on her new best friend, Sugar
Tumblr media
Coming-of-age/ sexual awakening stories aren't always my thing anymore, as I don't care to watch teenagers exploring their sexuality but I watched this when I was 10(??), and it was very important to me. It's not a very good show and is probably considered to be super outdated now, but I found it formative. Plus, when I was growing up, there weren't any (not from what I can remember) shows or movies with a lesbian lead wanting to be in an interracial relationship with her best friend. It's an important part of queer TV history. Plus, it has Andrew Garfield playing one of the wettest male characters ever lol
Thanks again and I hope you like my recommendations! 😊

so i applied for a DREAM JOB and out of 6000 applicants!!! I ended up in the final 15 😟
…and I did SOOOOO soooooo well til the very last round 😔 i accidentally became privy to some scathing information from the judging panel. ouuuuuuuchhhh lol my insecurities.
proud of myself for being true to myself and getting far as i did, though.
#also i got covid so feeling a bit self pitying at the moment#i honestly have massive beef with their criticisms#i left this country when i was 5 and have ended up with a lot of cultural differences#sorry English ppl reading this but i feel like the UK is very caught up on appearances. for example:#it’s an outdoorsy job and the panel were unimpressed i didn’t come in my hiking boots + wet weather gear#umm…. yeah because we are SITTING INSIDE ON A SUMMER’S DAY???#it felt like posing to me? i grew up in rural NZ so I’ve spent majority of my life in the bush#PS most of the hiking boots i did see were obviously pristine and never taken on an actual hike 🙄#yes i own that stuff. no im not gonna wear it just to prove a point. i wore jeans and the same shoes ive been wearing while hiking across#europe these last 2 months.#also the NZ wilderness is so much more rugged like these hikes in UK/europe would barely count as a casual day walk to me#so our standards are very different#and we both left feeling quite unimpressed with each other I think#i’ll provide one more rant: one of the exercises involved wiring up a plug. i did it successfully but failed cos I didn’t plug it in after#well um. my mama is a scientist and taught me not to fuck with electricity unless i’m 100% sure#yes I did all the wiring right but it was still my first time so I’m being cautious. apparently that’s a bad thing 🤷‍♀️#enough rants from me but basically yeah lots of little things like that which I disagree with
