OS had that first season charm. Very unpolished, still finding its footing but super enjoyable for those reasons

Probably the strongest series comedy-wise

That GORGEOUS 90s anime style

Main character dynamics were REALLY strong

Ash's personality felt much more like a shitty little 10 year old which was entertaining

Dub writing was also the best hands down

Sun & Moon (S20-S22)

Honestly tied for first with OS for me

REALLY fun ensemble cast! They do a fantastic job giving each character enough time for you to get to know and care about

Excellent modern anime style that perfectly fit the vibe of the season and allowed for some of the best character animation of the show's run

Finally figured out how to write Ash like a 10 year old again (but in a kind/sweet 10 year old way as opposed to OS)

Very different from previous series in terms of the formula they'd follow. Doing a school series instead of another "8 badges to championship" plot felt new and fresh!

This series genuinely made me cry the most (MEMORIES IN THE MIST!!!!! LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME)

Chronicles (S0)

Fun concept! It was really nice to see more of the side characters without Ash there. We get to see more of Misty, Tracey, Daisy, Brock, Ritchie, Oak, Delia, Butch, Cassidy, Jessie, James and Meowth!

Stylistically really nice. Just solid drawings all around and it retained the 90s anime style in digital form more successfully than other digitally done series imo

BUTCH AND CASSIDY!!! Team Rocket centric episodes!!! Training Daze!!!!!!!

Idk how possible it would have been (seems like a TON of work) but it made me want one of these in between each season, where we'd follow the characters that Ash had just said goodbye to for the next region.

Diamond and Pearl (S10-S13)

Series I grew up with! Honestly I was kinda a hater as a kid but having watched it back, I love the series

Love that Ash and Dawn were bros. They had a really fun dynamic.

Debatably peak Team Rocket. They had some of the best Team Rocket centric episodes this series.

Contests were really fun and a bit more figured out compared to the Advanced series

Fun, memorable rivals for Ash (Paul and Barry) as well as Dawn (Zoey, Kenny and Jessilina sometimes)

This is unfortunately where I stopped caring about Ash as much. He feels kinda watered down for the next couple series.

Advanced (S6-S9)

Pretty tied up with DP for me

Really fun series! Still had some of that early Pokémon charm

I appreciated that they put Ash in more of a mentor role for May (but he still had a lot to learn himself).

Ash and May constantly butting heads was really fun

May was a very compelling character to me, being very clumsy, kinda lazy, directionless, not really into Pokémon, etc. But then over time, she comes around and finds something she's interested in!

Journeys (S23-S25)

I love the episodic take as well as the way they let the characters jump around from region to region at random

Goh was a GREAT travel companion to Ash. They contrast each other nicely, have moments where they get on each others' nerves but still get along and have a mutual admiration for one another.

It was fun that they made Goh's thing catching every Pokémon (the motto of the entire series) so they could focus on Ash just training and prepping for Worlds.

Amaaaazing style. Took the great parts of classic Pokémon, roundness of SM and blended em together for a really fun look.

Black & White (S14-S16)

I don't think it's that controversial to have BW this low haha

I did enjoy Iris and Cilan but it felt like the writers didn't reaaally know what to do with them? Also this was their first time in a while not having Brock and it shows. I feel like Brock was successful because he was grounded and lower energy compared to the rest of the kids. Having 3 pretty eccentric characters is kind of a lot. No hate to the characters in the slightest, there was just not as much balance.

I think maybe they leaned on Cilan and Iris for more comedic relief because they killed the comedic relief that was Team Rocket this series. I appreciate them trying something new with Jessie, James and Meowth but I don't think it worked very well lol

XY (S17-S19)

I've ranted about this series a lot LOL. I get the appeal of it, but it just wasn't for me. I felt like it was the weakest comedy-wise and took itself a bit too seriously for my taste

My main gripe is that Serena, Clemont and Bonnie all like,,, worship Ash. By doing so, Ash begins to feel like a side character because we're constantly looking at Ash through their eyes. There's so little conflict within the group so their dynamics feel really flat. I think this dynamic could have worked if they leaned waaay more into Ash being a mentor and maybe feeling the pressure of having to be a role model for the people around him.

Team Rocket very much feels like an afterthought in this series. They did in Journeys as well, but at least in Journeys they were doing something silly and also had a handful of episodes dedicated to em.

Outside of that, the episodes weren't super memorable for me

I think it's just frustrating because there was sooooo much potential character-wise

Hello. I’ve been meaning to ask. Where have you learned to draw and do these manga/comic pages? It’s always been a struggle for me and no matter what I do, it has always looked either a mess and not clean.

hi! i'm sooo sorry for how late this reply is, but i'm also not sure how helpful this may be.

the basic answer is that i learned by 1) reading a lot of comics and deciding hey that looks cool i want to try executing something like that, and 2) getting a sense of what works and what doesn't work for me by drawing a lot of em. my general advice is just that it comes with a lot of practice, but practice with intent. making the destiny lore comics has been a lot of fun personally because it lets me mess around with different styles and narrative tones (which set the visuals) depending on the lore card.

i think "clean" can be a very subjective term; it could mean a lot of different things. if you're referring to having clean inks, it's just tied to what's comfortable for my drawing hand in terms of how i do lineart. i love inking, i like simple BW values and hatching and using spot black as a crutch so this is just where my style ended up. tbh i tend to feel like my lines are too stiff and i'm always trying to loosen up and be messier! depending on what you're struggling on, using 3d models and photo references can also help fill in the gaps where things aren't looking quite right to your eyes. i have zero concept of perspective and absolutely no 3d mental map so i rely heavily on 3d bg refs. if a panel just isn't working out, think about how you can adjust the composition to something that works better for your hand but still conveys the same visual idea.

also on a sillier level, my canvas defaults to fairly large resolutions because i got used to drawing at those sizes and when i shrink it down to post it, it inevitably helps smooth things out a bit lol. here's an example at 100%:

Ok I got you my man, here’s some trainer themes I’ve connected w some of the buddies. This is something I love to do, and I had fun doing it on characters aside from my own for once! Really got the gears rolling. Also did this just bc I am experiencing extreme pokemon brainrot rn so anything slightly Pokémon related is making me go feral. Included my thought process bc I did not choose these at random for the most part!

Pinepaw- Vs. Rival (ORAS)

Energetic, lively, maybe a dash of possible troublemaker. I honestly don’t know what to write for this really, Pine was the hardest one for me aside from Daff to connect to a theme. Wally’s battle theme was a close second, bc it was slow but confident, but I don’t know if the guitars were fitting for him.

Cormorantpaw- Vs. Piers (SWSH)

An edgy theme that’s not too over the top but also screams powerful. I feel like this man needs guitars in his theme and this was the most fitting one. Misunderstood emo edgelord guy who probably needs to sleep, god please go to bed. Was gonna choose Gladion (SM) at first bc the emo kid running away (?) from home/parent kinda thing they both got going on, but I didn’t feel like it was fitting. I dunno.

Asphodelpaw- Vs. Penny (SV)

Starts out VERY hardcore and intense but has these very “heroic” or lighter sounding parts too. I know not too much is out about Asphodel yet, but she definitely seems like the type so far to come off as really intense and snarky, just to have a hidden, more caring/sensitive interior, I think this theme reflects that nicely. Also both her and Penny have a thing for cute Pokémon. It’s funny.

Daffodilpaw- Lillie Encounter Theme 2 (SM)

It was hard to place a theme for her, I wanted something confident, but not insanely powerful since she’s not a great battler. Lillies second theme definitely has that sense of confidence as in game it’s after she changes her outfit it’s to break away from the way her mom has tried to make her be for all of her life, down to how she dresses. It’s light, but confident. At first I was gonna use Hop’s theme from SWSH bc he canonically is god awful at battling but I didn’t think it fit her.

Slugpelt- Vs. Zinnia (ORAS)

She gets my favorite theme of all time. Zinnias theme is honestly kind of like, sad and almost mournful, but also very intense. Also kinda mysterious. Zinnia in game is feeling grief over a lost loved one, if my memory serves me right. Obviously that connects somewhat to Slugpelt and the disappearance/loss of her mother and brother, and overall Slugpelt just seems like a very sad but also intense when needed be individual.

Rainhaze- Vs. N Final Battle (BW)

I honestly am not sure about this one, part of me just chose it bc of the whole Rainhaze having a Zorua thing, and N has a Zorua/Zoroark. Also chose it bc of the whole mysterious vibe of the theme, as well as the ticking of the clock heard at various points in the track. Kinda makes me think like, either time is running out for him to be found, or a lot of time had passed since he has disappeared (and possibly has changed him.)

Deepdark- Vs. Team Magma/Aqua leader (ORAS)

You CANNOT tell me this wouldn’t fit him. I didn’t want a theme that sounded almost like,, godly for him (like Ghetsis, which I considered for a minute), but still something that screamed I AM THE BOSS, YOU’RE DOOMED. And you know what screams that? The godforsaken amount of trumpets in this theme. But no fr jokes aside this theme is super powerful and hardcore and it deserves to be assigned to him.

I already dmed you the brendan one lol but I also sketched a Maxie (magma leader) inspired deepdark bc of the theme, I was gonna do it for all of em but I decided against it bc like. Too much work. But I have to show this bc the image of deepdark in a turtleneck is extremely funny to me. Also sorry I don’t draw deer a lot lol.

Especially, and I don’t think I’ve written so much about this point yet, how Ash was almost like Goh when he first started out. Now though Ash realizes that a majority of the Legendaries do have responsibilities to their shared planet, even when their throwing tantrums or being kidnapped and enslaved by shitty shorty humans, while Goh doesn’t quite get the concept yet and Ash is desperately trying to make sure he lives another day and not get himself killed.

🤍 thank you yet again!!! I really do like it when people comment on my older Ash stuff, especially when he’s shipped with Leon or Raihan. It outweighs the negative or hurtful comments I get from people who genuinely don’t like it. And I get it! It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I also specifically make sure that either their Ash’s age in the very rare instance or Ash is older in every instance. I’d never actually ship Ash with an older person in the anime when he’s still ten. And also Jealous!Leon is a Look and I love it so much.

3. what’s your favorite candle scent?

My ultimate favorite scent has been discontinued, but it was called Cider Lane from B&BW. It was just a perfect fall scent. But in general I’m partial sandalwood candles! There’s a yankee candle that’s rose and sandalwood and I LOVE it so much I want me entire house to smell like it forever.

13. what’s your comfort food?

When I was little my mom would take a day and make chicken stock from scratch, and then we would have homemade chicken and egg noodles (it wasn’t a soup exactly bc there was never like, broth left it was always absorbed by the noodles) and that’s ultimate comfort. AND when my dad and brother would be gone for the weekend with like, the boy scouts or sports, we would get a container of strawberries and cut them up and put sugar on them and let them sit in the fridge to draw out the juices, and either make or get (more often bought lol) fresh crusty bread, and would have that for a dessert! So those two things are like, my ultimate comfort foods.

26. what movie would you want to live in?

Oohh this is a hard question!!!

I think I’ll say my favorite movie, which is Almost Famous, but on the side of the journalism point. Not many people know, and it’s been a long time since I talked about it, but what I originally was going to go to college for was music industry management, and I wanted to be a tour manager, and while I was in high school my friend had a gig for the local paper and would cover shows, so I would go with them and thought that was cool! Plus we know I love the 70s fashion style so much and it would be so fun to dress up in all those clothes!

(why are all my faves sad?) the drive for truth or ideals! the fact that he's from my fave pokemon game! obsessed!!! his trainer theme slaps too Espresso Cookie - (Cookie Run Kingdom) cookie boy who can canonically go without sleep for like a week. a perfect representation of espresso as a concept, tbh. take a look at any coffee nerd youtuber and it's like they're making magic potions. every bean must be weighted, every step MUST be followed, no room for error when pulling the perfect espresso shot; much like this character! he is comically driven in his experimentation and you'd think he'd be a rule stickler given how he acts about his labwork, but nay! he's totally willing to steal from authority and flee from cops and its great. he's also surprisingly kind if you're anyone but madeleine cookie LOL. i love his blunt little wizard ass Kaito Momota - (Danganronpa V3 Killing Harmony) oh boy. what can i say about him that you also, don't already obsess over. the passion. the hair. the gusto. he's THE LUMINARY OF THE STARS, BABY. while not my fave on the first playthrough, i've really warmed up to him bcos of. certain people that yuou know also. and he's now cemented as my favourite drv3 character haha. idk what more to say he's just really fun and heartfelt and SMARTER THAN PEOPLE GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR HEYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!

team rocket went from being a nice simple way of extending episodes to a 22 minute runtime to characters that just unnecessarily bloat and derail the episode as of xy tbh

i love both PLA and SV a LOT (i played pla 3 times over<3) and i think the shift to open world works SOOOOOO WELL for pokemon BUT they need level scaling so, so badly.

one of the most fun things to do in open worlds is ignore the story and go off and do your own thing for a while! there's a huge, wonderful interesting world to explore! but with the way that levels of gyms/star bosses/titans are in SV, it is SO INCREDIBLY EASY to become overleveled! or to do things out of "order".

because there is no info or logical progression in terms of area for what gyms/etc are higher level than the others! you have to look up a guide online and follow THAT to keep any modicum of challenge for the actual boss fights of the game. scarlet and violet are extremely fun so far but aside from the bugginess (which is a product of crunch and an awful, WAY TOO FAST release schedule), from a game design standpoint the lack of level scaling in SV is its biggest flaw.

honestly, i think ANY pokemon game could benefit from level scaling- i recently played partway through inclement emerald, a difficulty/catch-em-all romhack of emerald that added level scaling, and WOW it is SO MUCH fun!

imo, pokemon is at its absolute best when your team is basically on-level with the opponents you're facing. in linear experiences like DPP and BW this can happen very naturally if you're training a full team (this happened in my most recent playthroughs of platinum, black, & white 2, just keeping 5-6 pokemon trained without excess grinding led me to being approx the same levels as other trainers & gym leaders) but in non-linear, open world models like SV needs level scaling so badly, because otherwise almost all of the challenge just bleeds away unless you self-impose strict level caps, which can take away from the fun of exploration.

Hello hello!! Thank you for perusing and enjoying my blog :3 Sorry it took me a while to get to this, but I use Ravioli Game Tools, specifically the Ravioli Explorer. The basic audio searching loop is opening the Explorer, opening your FILE Explorer, finding the INT files (since those are how the audio files are packaged) and dragging them one at a time into the Ravioli Explorer.

✨ More Detailed Instructions on Extracting Dishonored Audio Below: ✨

Step 1) Download Ravioli Game Tools: This step is pretty easy, I've linked it above. It's just a compressed folder to unzip, and the programs work pretty much outside of the box :)

Step 2) Find the INT/audio files: You'll have to dig through your File Explorer to find the folder with all of these INT files. The path (at least for me on Windows) is:

Windows (:C) > Program Files(x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Dishonored > DishonoredGame > CookedPCConsole

If you're looking for the KOD or BW audio, this is the general path:

Windows (:C) > Program Files(x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Dishonored > DishonoredGame > DLC > PCConsole > DLC06/DLC07

Fun fact, because the Daudlcs are smaller, the voice lines for ALL available languages are in there (with file extensions like FRA, DEU, etc), and those work as INT files as well.

You'll notice that there are. A lot of INT files, with random alphanumeric names. That's why the tedious audio sifting is tedious! There's no clear cut way to know what each INT file has, it could be all of a character's combat dialogue, it could also be literally one voice line. Generally, any INT files that are at least 1 MB/1,000 KB are worth looking into, since very small files don't have anything.

Step 3) Drag INT file into Ravioli Explorer: When you open up Explorer, it'll look like this:

Drag one INT file into the window. You can then click on each little .wem file to listen to it :)

Step 4) Exporting Files: Now, you most likely will want to extract a piece of audio or two. To extract, just click on a file or select multiple (like you would in File Explorer), and click the "Extract" button up top. A window will open up and you can extract! Keep in mind however, that audio cannot be converted to MP3 for some reason? So set your main converting format or fallback format to WAV (Wave).

And there are the basics! Have fun on your audio adventures :D

TFWIKI Pics Jan 2023: Grab Bag!

January's Patreon-backed @tfwiki toy picture theme is... three themes. There were a bunch of holes I kinda wanted to fill but none of them were really big enough for their own full update, so like, hey. Mix 'em up.

First we have the second round of Beast Wars "Fox Kids!" redecoes, released in 2000 alongside the new Beast Machines toys. The BW show's recent move to the Fox Kids cartoon block really boosted demand for more Transformers product, and Hasbro could only stuff so much into Machines, so Wars got extended another year with these and the Mutants. 1) Transmetal Airazor 2) Transmetal Rattrap 3) Transmetal Rhinox 4) Transmetal Waspinator

Next is a very loose theme of real car models in red. Yeah. Look, I wanted to get new pics of two of these anyway (the first and last) and found two more toys that needed new pics that matched the vague pattern.

Binaltech Meister Velocity Red Mica Edition" is perhaps better known as "Zoom-Zoom", a spare body for Binaltech Jazz equipped with an AI that Jazz is teaching to dance. I love Zoom-Zoom and he should become the new default Jazz-mold redeco.

Kiss Players Hot Rodimus is a redeco of Alternators Mirage, with some added accessories. Not just the figurine of human partner Shaoshao Li, but a 4-part fishing rod that reassembles into an arm-mounted gun like the original Hot Rod's arm-pipe-guns. But it's not very good, it doesn't clip on, just kinda grips.

Alternators Rumble is part of the final wave of Alternators toys, relegated to Walmart exclusivity. He's weird. He's simpler than most Alternators, he doesn't have normal arms, and the spring-loaded piledrivers are all wobbly once deployed. Also, no Takara release.

And then there's Universe Swerve, whose release story is a DOOZY but the short of it is, Chevy commissioned Hasbro/Takara to make an original Chevy Aveo TF mold to use as giveaways at malls and whatnot in 2007, part of the whole movie marketing thing Chevy/Paramount had going on. Which means this mold can NEVER be restored and used again. It's a truly unique piece that I'm super-happy to have.

And we're wrapping up with some pieces from Takara's 2010 Animated line. Said line is most famous for dousing the main cast in super-shiny metallic paint, but most of the toys only got a bit of it. Oil Slick only got bright green paint on his gauntlets and legs, while Blazing Lockdown just got metallic pale-gold flames instead of the Hasbro version's more cartoony yellow-gold.

Optimus Prime Clear Red Ver. is a Toys"R"Us exclusive redeco of the Legends-class Optimus. It's one of Takara's many many many many store promotional items, where you got it free with qualifying purchases on specific dates in specific stores. In this case, 3000 yen's worth of Animated product at TRU, presumably on the first weekend of the toyline's release (haven't found the exact date yet).

Prowl Elite Guard Ver. was exclusive to the 2010 Tokyo Toy Show, which ran from July 15th through the 18th. It's currently unknown what the production run on this one was.

fucking finished my 848284824th rewatch of the potc trilogy so ofc i have to do my traditional incomprehensible tumblr ramble about it,,

genuinely constantly finding new things to obsess over with these films, this time its Gotta be the foreshadowing like holy shit. Holy fuck. the setups and payoffs of dmc and awe are so fucking awesome and rewarding, like the more u put into watching these movies the more you get out of em every single time!!!! i kind of enjoyed dead mans chest more this time just from the fun of picking out all the foreshadowing moments every fucking where, from the more obvious stuff like jack falling into the grave and tia dalma's "touch of destiny" thing with will to the more subtle stuff like the specific moments tia dalma choosss to say that, notably when governor swann is explaining what he learned about the heart after he died, and will wagering an eternity of servitude in the dice game that was meant to be inconsequential.

something i also love is the whole thing with jack's hat in dmc, how he loses it at the beginning the moment he gets the black spot, then mfer is in tortuga trying to find a hat that fits him but none of them do cause nothing can avert the fate hes running from that cost him his original hat in the first place, then he only gets it back at the end when he's been forced to accept his death. scrumptious shit rigjt there.

and then governor swann saying jack wont risk his life to save someone else vs him giving up immortality to save will, the cannibals intending to eat jack cause they think hes a god and want to release him from his mortal bonds vs the whole calypso thing.... WTF‼️

UHH ofc the scene bw jack and liz about 'curiosity' and how they were both right in that jack has his moment of heroism returning to save the pearl and liz has her moment to act on selfish impulse by trapping him on the ship.... love all of it ‼️‼️

This is something I considered at the start, but I'm not entirely sure how to bring em all together! Well besides Barry— Akari is originally from the past in this au, she's from Kanto which is why shes in so much awe and sticking so close to Meowth in the first place. Rei(Lucas) is not in this au plot wise, Meowth replaces him. Arceus basically screwed up and nabbed the wrong being entirely! How, I'm not sure, maybe it was a spur of the moment thing to chuck a 15 year old into ancient Sinnoh and It panicked and grabbed Meowth instead. We all make mistakes. So yeah, Akari is where's she always has been and is meant to be, Rei(Lucas) is chillin' as the modern champion of Sinnoh, as he has been for a few years now.

I could definitely figure out a way for Emmet and team rocket to cross each other and eventually fall into helping each other find their respective loved one. It's just they're pretty different characters and I can't really see WHY they could cross each others path so casually. I haven't watched all of BW either so I'm not sure how they would have interacted canonically in the series. Plan to watch it tho once I find where.
