Note
For the Potentially Disastrous Ship Question:
Ki’to & Arenvald.
Y'know? I could honestly see it working. Arenvald's a sweetheart, and has a wonderful sense of humor as well.
Tumblr media
He's certainly not Ki'to's usual type, and therefore not someone he'd pursue. But if he were to approach him, he wouldn't turn him away.
I mean, tbh, he looks like he would give great hugs. And Ki'to is nothing if not a physically affectionate man. Good hugs are his favorite.
Ship Rating: 6/10, could definitely be cute, given Arenvald was interested!

Tumblr media
We have been invited to a meeting of representatives of all the Alliance nations and the beast tribes.
(Wow, I wish the game would give me a better word to use, feels like a slur to call them "beasts". Also, though I realize them being 3d models would make this difficult, they should really be offered a seat at the table - literally - to make this feel like we actually respect them as equals. Having them stand at one end feels... not right.)
Tumblr media
And the meeting is fine and dandy, and we agree to form The Grand Company of Eorzea, and Kan-E-Senna asks Alphinaud to write up a report covering his experiences with the Crystal Braves and and and none of that matters because THIS BASTARD showed up!!
Tumblr media
I have slain gods who had committed lesser crimes than the words you just said to your children.
I don't care about the Final Days anymore; Zenos and Fandaniel can go bring about the end of the world and dance in the ashes for all I care. THIS bastard is my new target. I will make you eat those words Fourchenault Leveilleur. You should be ashamed of yourself, and as Hydaelyn is my witness I will make sure you are.
*mutters darkly*
Tumblr media
You have a clearer head than I, G'raha, I don't remember what he said besides his being an insufferable git. If the Forum wanted to distract me, that was a masterful way to do it. I'm still fuming.
Tumblr media
Oh dear. Looks like Fandaniel is leading a force to Carteneau. I wonder if Zenos will be accompanying him?
Tumblr media
But before we can leave on the airship, Fordola meets us and insists we must come with her.
Tumblr media
Oh Arenvald, I am so sorry. Is it your legs or your back? I'm sorry. How rude of me. I am glad to see you alive.
Arenvald can fight no longer, so he looks to Alphinaud to carry on where he cannot. Alphinaud doesn't feel like much of a hero, nor is he sure that he is the right person for the job, but Arenvald gives him a pep-talk and we go.
Tumblr media
Arenvald is obviously feeling very depressed about the loss he's suffered, but I am glad he has Fordola there for support (Ship it? Ship it). And I am glad it seems that, while he might no longer be able to wield a sword, he's not out of the fight just yet. I am... potentially hopeful we might see some good disability representation through him? It's already refreshing to see the idea that being disabled makes you useless so clearly and strongly rebutted.
Tumblr media
Aaaaaaa! Who are you making me fight as this time!?
Okay but I want those little figures. Please. Let me buy the whole set and put them on my desk.
Tumblr media
We gotta defend the aetheric confluence. This was painful. I am unskilled with these fights. Especially the one where I had to be Urianger. PAIN.
Tumblr media
(Fuck yes Ravana. My favorite primal!)
Tumblr media
Please no, Fandaniel. I don't need another homoerotic violence friendship. There is only room in my heart for one muderboyfriend.
Tumblr media
We won the day, and, while we could not save them all, we saved some. And that will have to be enough.
Tumblr media
I think this is hope.
Tumblr media
Yesss thank you game for appreciating my desire to make that man pay.
Tumblr media
Omg omg is that a scythe!? Is Zenos a Reaper now? Haha sweet.
Tumblr media
Um. What's that spiky edifice behind you there? Also, I just noticed there appear to be ruins of buildings everywhere?
Tumblr media
Oh yeah. That's gotta be the main tower that Thancred and Urianger espied in Garlemald. Or the final boss' lair. Possibly both. Spooky fucking thing, regardless.
Tumblr media
Opposite of hope?
Tumblr media
Ooooo!
Tumblr media
I kinda adore you, Zenos. You crazy bastard. I think you've fallen for me and don't know what to do with that, so express it the way you express everything else: violence!
Tumblr media
We have assessed the aetheric currents, and determined that the towers are being fueled by drawing upon the lands' aether directly. We must inform our allies of this.
But then...
Tumblr media
Hydaelyn?
Tumblr media
Hydaelyn!?!? After all this time, what brings you to speak with me? To send an avatar of yourself here?
Tumblr media
Oh shit. That's not good. Can you be a little more specific?
Tumblr media
Oh dear.
Aaand nobody else saw the glowing lady.
Tumblr media
Oooh and now the spooky moon is over us too.
And with that. I believe I have reached the end of Shadowbringers. The greatest expansion so far. I don't feel prepared to sum up an experience as profound as this was. Fantastic game. I am eager to get playing Endwalker.

An Introduction Post!
Me, the mun, am Valerie, or Elizabeth! I have a lot of hours logged into FFXIV (over 10k hours) and I have written a lot of fics! I’m in the process of fully fleshing out my timeline, so bear with me as canon shifts. My house is on Ultros (Primal data center), plot 12 ward 28 of the lavender beds, come visit me!
I follow from @lizzy-frizzle
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beginner’s Guide that I made (currently working on updating for Endwalker): https://docs.google.com/document/d/19Oa07hkaQFIGJDxW8MyumcDHuhi5ZNAwbul9Lk6PuxA/edit
OC Information below the read more
Lizzy Frizzle: My main OC!
Tumblr media
Age: she starts ARR at 17, and she’s currently 24 Gender: Trans Woman (She/Her) Orientation: Lesbian General Info: Lizzy is an Au Ra Raen that was orphaned early in her childhood, she grew up with her adoptive parents in the black shroud and following their deaths from the 7th umbral calamity, she spends a couple months on her own, then she gets taken in by the Sylphs and they teach her many things, for better or worse. She also excels in academics, and managed to create her own faerie to heal with, though she is uneducated and has no formal training. When she goes to sharlayan, she begins studying properly under Archon Conroy Rayne. Lizzy is polyamorous and as of current patch she is married to Brilliant Caladium, Sadu Dotharl, and Suzaku, while she is dating Shio Shinju.
Her Ancient is Iremia, a renowned Psychologist sporting powerful Emotion magic. Iremia desires to become Azem, but Emet-Selch shoots down the idea under the reasoning of "I don't want to lose the convocations best therapist" but Iremia knows the real reason is cause Emet views her as a little sister, and doesn't want her gallivanting off into dangerous places. At the end of shadowbringers, Lizzy discovers Iremia's apartment, and through mystical and magical means, gets to have a conversation with Iremia, this leads Iremia to bestowing Lizzy with her knowledge about Psychology, as well as her emotion magicks, though not as potent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lizzy’s children with parents:
Frizzle Rose – Lizzy/Bril - born right before stormblood Tranquil Grove – Lizzy/Bril - born right before stormblood Alice Frizzle – Lizzy/Sadu - born after shadowbringers
Ship tags: Lizzy/Bril – Brilizzy Lizzy/Sadu – Explosive Duo Lizzy/Shio – The idiots Lizzy/Fordola – Brooding Mess (bad ending AU)
Mono Rose: My secondary OC!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age: she starts at 16 during the post-ARR stuff, she’s currently 22 Gender: Non-binary (She/They but don’t call her a girl) Orientation: Pansexual General Info: Mono Rose is a lalafell that lives with her family in the shroud. The oldest of 8 children, she strives to break out on her own and go on plenty of adventures. One day in the shroud she tries taking on a boar, only to stumble and get saved by Lizzy. Lizzy then teaches her how to properly use the bow and arrows, and Mono starts training to become a Bard. Mono thus looks up to Lizzy as a role model and hero, however, Mono refuses to join Lizzy and the Scions because she just wants low stakes adventures, so she frequently adventures with Bril. She also spends a lot of time babysitting Lizzy’s children.
Lizzy’s Children:
- Frizzled Rose (she/her) -appearance wise she takes after Lizzy a lot, but she's very much an angry ball of violence, her main job is Warrior and she is shorter than min height for roe (she's the same height as lizzy when fully grown, and she's pissed about it.) Frizzled wants to become a famous adventurer and save the world like Lizzy and Shio, but Lizzy is strongly against it and tries to keep her out of harms way. Frizzled often hangs out with Alice, only causing more problems around Ul Dah.
- Tranquil Grove (He/him) - appearance wise takes more after bril but still has lizzy elements, he also takes after lizzy's personality moreso, in that he's very peaceful and calm (we are ignoring black mage lizzy, shhhhh), he mains scholar and uses Lizzy's old codex that has her notes in it. He very much doesn't like violence, and tries to keep the peace often (struggling with Alice and Cota, or if Alice, Gwen, and Frizzled are in the same room). He gets along with Khaidai, they bond over their desire for non-violent solutions
- Alice Frizzle (She/they) – Alice was born half-blind due to the excess light aether in Lizzy on conception, due to this she is slightly more clumsy then the rest of the children. After she gets older, she can see fuzzy colors of people’s aether, though it doesn’t help much in a combative environment. Due to her half-blindness and brash personality, she receives numerous scars during her fights. She becomes a notorious (monk) bodyguard in Ul Dah, where her reputation is only held up by the fact that none of her clients ever get injured, despite her reckless behaviour.

I have a lot of thoughts about Zenos' role in Stormblood and the way the game handles his introduction and subsequent fight encounters leading up to Ala Mihgo and the Royal Menagire.
I want to start with a basic declaration of I genuinely really enjoy Zenos as a character. I think there's a lot to him that I personally find very compelling. The extreme apathy, ruthless drive towards his one goal, the curiousity that becomes obsession. His appearances in Endwalker added a lot as well, and I was beyond excited to see him show up in Ultima Thul to help fight Endsinger.
I think he's neat, basically.
Saything that, I don't like his role in Stormood all that much. Or rather, I don't like how he's used.
Tumblr media
I'm going to start with the Rhalgar's Reach battle since that's the first meaningful interaction with him.
It does not make any sense that he spares the WoL. You battle him, and he sou dly defeats you. I do not think there is enough justification given for why he allows you to live in that moment. Because there was no real indication that the WoL did any damage to him during the Duty. Like, you get jobbed. The trope where the new antagonist crushes a character the audience knows to he strong, in order to establish the new threat as EVEN BIGGER THAN BEFORE.
Zenos, who was shown to have mercilessly cut down a bunch of NPCs and Y'stola before you arrived, should not have spared you. IIRC he even calls you a disappointment. He had expected more, and you let him down.
Now, this can obviously be explained with game logic. You are level 60, Zenos is level 70. He is stronger than you. He is the final boss. You have to level up and become stronger throughout the expansion, and then you will be able to get a proper rematch.
But narratively, it doesn't work for me. I can not see the logic for him to bother sparing you. Not in this instance. Not when he's clearly and definitively won. It feels too gamey. It's too obvious that the only reason you didn’t die is because you're the MC, and you have to play the rest of the game.
So how would I change it?
Well, to start. I wouldn't have Zenos be the Viceroy. I don't think it makes any sense that he's in charge. He just doesn't care enough. He doesn't work as a politically themed antagonist to me. It actually detracts from the Ala Mihgo sections for me because, well, it's just not as compelling as Yostuyu and her relationship to Doma. Fordola is great don't get me wrong, but it's overshadowed.
To me. Zenos, and his sole interest and passion being seeking strong opponents to fight, should have been more of a straight narrative foil to the Warrior of Light. He should have been the Empire's strongest. The soilder they ship out to wherever they need a battle or rebellion quelled and crushed. The one sent to turn the tide like you do for the Alliance.
Your battle at the Reach should have been more balanced. More evenly matched. You could have the WoL still lose. Perhaps because of interference from the rest of the Garlean army. Or because they were distracted by Y'stola or Lyse or someone else. But to me, it needed to be obvious that you were the first actual fight Zenos had. That he truly enjoyed and felt something because of. He lets you live because he wants to fight you again. Without distractions or interefance. He doesn't fucking care if Garlemald still controls Ala Mihgo or Doma. He never has. He wants a good fight, and he's finally goddamn found it.
So he lets you go. You head for Doma for the same reasons, to split the Empire's attention and to try and get more allies to help the now broken Ala Mihgan resistance.
This time, Zenos shows up in Doma because he's being sent by the Empire to hunt you down and kill you. They're already scared of you. Of course, they want you dead, and Zenos managed to beat you once before.
Yugiri isn't after Zenos this time. She's after Yotsuyu and wasn't expecting Zenos to be there. You were only told the Crown Prince was visiting, and now you know who Zenos is. So you battle again, and it's a draw this time. Interrupted due to the villagers showing up to help you out. Zenos gives you his speech. Maybe this time, it resonates a little more because the fights have been more interesting, more challenging, and more FUN. And you feel that as a player, you want to be Zenos because you've been so, so close each time. And it felt fair. Hard. But fair.
Now you take care of Doma, and you head back across the seas to Ala Mihgo again. You find out they took Krile. Experimented with her Echo. Replicated it. Put it in Fordola as a test because she's desperate to prove herself and desperate to win back her reputation and the little standing she had. She proves a mosnterously strong fighter like she does against Lyse.
And now the Empire wants to put it in THEIR strongest soilder too. So Zenos becomes a Resonant. Now he has this warped version of your echo. More narrative comparison.
You fight your way into Ala Mihgo through the castle where you find Zenos has already killed the actual Viceroy. He didn't want any more distractions. This is going to be your actual fight. He brings you to the Royal Menagire. Where Shinryu is locked away after the Empire captured it.
He gives you his speech again. This time, the offer to accept or deny him has more weight. Regardless of your choice, you have to fight him. You push him hard. Even with the resonate, you're winning. You've had your echo for months/years. Zenos, for maybe a day or two at most. Zenos isn't ready for the battle to be over. Not just yet, he wants it to be gruellinh for both of you. So he releases Shinryu. Fuses with it. You battle him in the trial. You defeat him even then. He falls. Lyse and the others arrive, and he calls you his first friend. And it means something, because maybe at this point, you have a connection with him too.
He dies. And you wonder if could have been you. Had things been different.

Shipping Game: Arenvald?
Tumblr media
Ohh this one is interesting to think about! I feel like Arenvald is a super underrated character who deserves a lot more love xD In my heart I ship him with Fordola, but I think he and Nahte could actually do quite well together!
Arenvald is a genuinely good guy. He cares about people, even his enemies, and though he gets beat to hell and back with a consistency to rival the WoL, it doesn't make him bitter. Even when he's crippled. That takes some seriously incredible strength of will and compassion. Though I think it's also super, super important for his recovery that he has friends like Fordola and Alphinaud to help support him, and ways to keep himself busy and still feel capable - that stubborn love is something Nahte can really resonate with.
They have a lot of shared trauma, Arenvald has been around since the massacre at the Waking Sands which absolutely wrecked Nahte. They're also both halfbreeds with estranged fathers who have had difficulty finding a place in their own cultures. Nahte's mom was way nicer, though. It's ok Arenvald she'll adopt you.
Arenvald is pretty... unassuming? might be the word? I'm not sure that he'd initiate anything with Nahte or expect the affection to be reciprocated. And Nahte might assume Arenvald isn't interested in him that way and not want to risk making things awkward by asking. Someone would probably have to play matchmaker, or one of them would need to have a "poorly" timed Echo attack xD
But it could be very wholesome and I could see them both being pretty sappy and romantic with each other.
(I also headcanon that Nahte was one of the healers involved in trying to save Arenvald when he loses the use of his legs, too. Something else for Nahte to feel guilty about not being able to completely fix :') )
--
With LYRHA.... mm. If this was a meeting before she's with X'rhun, I think Arenvald's age would work against him. Though he and X'rhun are both what I'd call Tragically Idealistic, and clearly compassionate and patient with feral gremlins (cough Fordola), X'rhun has the benefit of decades of experience which Lyrha came to respect. It would be a lot easier for Lyrha to dismiss Arenvald's good nature as stupidity and inexperience that's going to get him killed soon.
After she's with X'rhun, though? She would probably have more respect for Arenvald, too, and wouldn't mind a fling. Being said, she might still feel a little threatened by him. The hardships he faced in his youth didn't turn him bitter like her own did. I could be wrong, but Arenvald also doesn't exactly strike me as the type to want romance/sex without commitment, and I'm not sure Lyrha would be able to reciprocate the kind of devotion he'd want from a partner, at least not on a compatible time-frame

I often think about how Meiko perceieves the 'villains' in the story, especially with how a majority of them are presented as (somewhat) sympathetic beings. What does it take to make her sympathize with them? To 'forgive' them, if at all?
Her thoughts on the matter follow a generally consistent code.
Meiko can empathize with an antagonist's personal history. Her hometown is made up of folks who break multiple laws, her parents were pirates, etc. She and A'kihiko understand that people will sometimes do terrible things to survive.
This is especially strong in the cases of Yotsuyu and Fordola. Meiko can feel genuine sympathy for both women upon learning their history. She recognizes that Fordola wants to make amends and agrees with Lyse that her crimes against Ala Mihgo should be paid in service to the country, not a death sentence.
In most cases, Meiko only believes that the 'death penalty' should only be carried out if the villain is out of control. That is, they do not show regret nor are interested in reform. When the world around them is safer only if they are dead, then she'll be the first to offer up to execute someone.
This is the case with both Yotsuyu and with Zenos. Yotsuyu is actually a more sensitive case than Meiko would ever let anyone know because of how the woman was sold into a brothel. Meiko knows that is exactly where she would have ended up if her father's crew hadn't intercepted the ship. Thus, she empathizes with Yotsuyu a lot. Would she have done the same? Could have turned out similar?
Despite this, and perhaps out of a distant respect for her, Meiko would have (if it were her place; she knows it is not) put Yotsuyu to death. She recognizes Yotsuyu's hatred is all that she is. That is more than evident when her amnesia leaves her in a childlike state. Meiko was deeply disturbed by 'Tsuyu' and her mannerisms. It felt, again, like some form of human trafficking to keep her that way. She was relieved at the outcome, although she pitied Yotsuyu and her miserable existence.
When it comes to Zenos, Meiko would also be unable to vote for anything but his execution. The events in canon do not leave any room for Zenos and the WoL to talk. Every time he appears, it is to threaten or murder innocent people in order to get a rise out of them. He does not see an issue with this. He does not show remorse for anyone but himself and his boredom, his loneliness, etc.
Although Meiko can admit that his presence against the Endsinger was helpful, she did not give him acceptance (A'kihiko did) and could only ever treat him as an annoyance. A dangerous annoyance.
If Meiko ever had a chance to simply hear Zenos out, if she could hear him explain why he functions the way that he does... at best, she would want to shake him violently. She would only grow frustrated trying to get him to understand why what he does is wrong. If he agreed to 'repent' for his ill-doings, it would only be for selfish motivations (to fight the Mochikokos again) and not for genuine change. No matter why or how Zenos ended up the way he did, Meiko can only see the world as safer without him.
Skipping back in the timeline again --
Ysayle. Lady Iceheart. Meiko rarely forgives anyone who has threatened her brother so directly, but Ysayle showed genuine regret for her actions from the get-go (in HW). If Ysayle had survived, Meiko would recommend she not return to Ishgard again if she can help it...but to join the Scions as her 'penance' instead. Meiko is also confident that Ysayle would dedicate the rest of her life to doing good deeds to make up for her poor ones.
Gaius! When he was simply the Black Wolf who threatened Eorzea, revived Ultima, and had a weird gaggle of devotees, Meiko had no reason to sympathize with him. He came from Garlemald who thought they knew better than Eorzeans and decided they wanted to conquer them (as far as she knew), so she was all for killing the bastard.
When he returns in Stormblood, circumstances have changed. Like Ysayle, he seeks to undo some of the harm he did. He also does himself a favor by not returning to Garlemald nor Eorzea, instead sticking to Werlyt and trying to heal. Meiko believes he does not intend to return to any wicked conquering, so he can go back to raising his lizard daughter.
Ascians. Oh, you rambly, tragic cloaked little bastards. As the truth around the Ancients comes to light and motivations are revealed, Meiko once again finds herself in the 'I pity you but you need to be stopped' category with Emet-Selch and Elidibus. Even Hermes gets some post-humous empathy! But again: they are threatening her loved ones, so they need to be killed.
This brings up another very good point with Meiko's perspective of villains: She's self-centered and isn't afraid to acknowledge it. She feels for Emet-Selch. She knows that if she were in his shoes (like with Yotsuyu) she would likely do the same. She recognizes he sees himself as the Hero.
But he is threatening a world in which people she loves exists. If it is purely a fight of my world versus yours (and it is), Meiko will be the first to choose her own. She can acknowledge the parallels but will not be guilted or shamed into allowing her loved ones to perish. She will choose people she cares for above all else, every time. Whether it's viewed as heroic or not.
As for Hermes, Meiko pities that man. She pities him for his sadness causing the end of the universe. It was purely an accident. His actions cannot be forgiven, but she knows he truly held no ill will at the start. The lad was just deeply depressed in what was otherwise considered a utopia. It was rought.
Fandaniel, though? Amon? Meiko recognizes that those are elements of Hermes that have gone off the deep end. Like Yotsuyu and Zenos, he is a feral creature who is too single-minded to be reformed. Death was the only option. This is similar to how she views Nidhogg, too. Although she is glad he's gotten attached to Estinien and they seem to be...helping each other, or whatever. She doesn't ask too many questions there.
Meteion -- Meteion gets a pass. Even at her worst as the Endsinger, even after she unmade the Scions, Meiko acknowledges Meteion's unique situation. She is not a hateful creature. She was an innocent child that was corrupted by the darkness she was unknowingly exposed to. She holds no ill will for the entelechy. In fact, she hopes to see her again.
Bonus: Asahi and Athena! Both were simply evil. Meiko refuses to believe anything else. Sorry not sorry, slit their throats and move on. Sometimes you just have some bad eggs. Best to send them back to the aetherial sea and hope they're better in their next lives.

for those who play xiv and are curious about My Experience here's a lil rundown since i didn't post much about it here; i'll likely make a casual sideblog for it sometime soon, but i do discuss it on my xiv twitter, serpentscree. plenty of xiv spoilers below
i play on mateus on crystal btw :)
first is eliphas buduga:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she was born qestiri in the azim steppe but was taken as a child for the budugas. growing up she sucked with an axe and so was slotted more into healing magic, which is where she picked up her knack for it. she hated it. she didn't feel any of the camaraderie the budugas had with each other, in part bc she knew she was a woman even though she hadn't transitioned yet, and in part bc she valued knowledge and learning over battle. while she's capable of speaking, she instead carried on the tradition of the people she was born into, and so never speaks, opting instead to sign (and knows quite a few dialects). she's interested in folk knowledge and sociology, having moved past her romanticization of academia. she never intended to be the warrior of light and hated it every step of the way, but up through endwalker sucked up and carried on because that's all she knew to do; after endwalker she took the opportunity to run away from the scions, becoming a dark knight and following fray's teachings. eventually, she made up with them, but with strict boundaries-- she no longer does anything that infringes on her wants and needs or her personhood. she believes in helping people but doesn't believe in law or obligation, only in the hope of goodness when everyone is provided for. very social anarchist. she's some brand of sapphic but doesn't have a huge focus on romance and i uhhh definitely ship her maybe a little bit with the gender-ambiguous version of fray she absorbed into her brain
her azem is euphemia, a red mage with plague doctor themes, who i ship w venat and hythlodaeus. they're a pretty standard azem, and readily gave their life to become eliphas, welcoming the prospect of change and new life, but they have some issues with anger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aaaand osmet rehw-gilda. he's a dragoon and obsessed with being a dragoon. his entire life revolves around dragons. his schtick is that he's pretty much the chuunibyou trope, but all of the fantastical things he believes about himself and his unwavering, almost unhinged confidence in himself ends up being true and correct. i'm considering that he grew up the keeper of whispers in his viera clan, something of a prophet by virtue of his echo, but due to his personality was excluded and bullied by other kids, and constantly compared to more able and/or stable siblings. he was always his mom's favorite tho and fucking loves her. momma's boy. he became more accepted once he showed skill with a lance, and so worked on his abilities first and foremost. when the moon disappeared from the sky-- at the fault of a dragon, no less-- he vowed to adventure and learn more about it, and gain glory in the process. and Well. He Was Right. he's a bit obnoxious, and obsessed with being the warrior of light (AND darkness), but is noble and doesn't put others down. he's bi and does get around quite a bit, though people usually think he's catfishing them about being the warrior of light because he won't stop dropping it into every sentence. he fucking loves fishing. i ship him w estinien :)
his azem is nereus, a stern and grumpy paladin who only cares about fish and who wanted to be mitron WAY more than he wanted to be azem, but alas. he's the og fisher. he invented most fish. he won't stop submitting fish creations. despite being an ass he's REALLY stern about his morals, and ended up dying to the rest of the convocation while attempting to assassinate hermes to stop the creation of zodiark. i ship him w venat
my favorite characters are esinien, fray, ardbert, fordola, hythlodaeus, venat, and alisaie! though i love quite a few more. i have a great serpent of ronka plushie because i cry every time i see him.
i've made a bunch of charms of me and my friends ocs plus npcs:
Tumblr media
and plan on taking commissions for more one day :)

// Like this for a starter for one of my Aus. Information below for Roi and Amyntas
i. Lightless
When Roi and Niall attempted to escape into Eorzea, Niall was killed. This led to Roi being captured by the Garleans. Being a physically capable 13-year-old, they sent him to a work camp of prisoners where he was subjected to hard labor and intense abuse. For ten years, he managed to survive against the odds. After the WoL defeats Gauis and his research on the Echo reaches the soldiers in charge of the prison, they discover that Roi’s bursts of unconsciousness he often gets line up with the research. After questioning him and confirming he has the Echo, he is shipped away to a lab as a test subject. From this point, it breaks into three sub-verses.
i. I SURVIVED BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN SPARED.
This takes place if Roi hasn’t been taken to the lab yet and is somehow freed from his prison or your character meets him. It can also take place if he is freed from the lab before they eventually kill him by draining his aether or pushing his body/mind too far.
ii. THE BOY WITH THE BROKEN HALO
In which he finally breaks and starts openly complying with the research in the hopes it will free him from returning to prison. In this verse, Roi either remains at the lab or is eventually able to leave as a soldier after they find out as much as they can about his echo. In this, he would open be helping the empire despite what they did to him and his family out of an intense fear of returning to his life before. That being said, his body is in far worse shape than in the main verse and the experiments made it more difficult for him to control his aether properly. He usually will stray away from combat, though he could eventually become a gunbreaker, machinist, or reaper. His main role is to use the echo to collect information for the Empire. He can still use magic, but it physically drains him to do so. I would say the intense damage to his body would bar him from having an open combat role, he would likely be more of an information agent. Now I cannot stress enough that he would still, basically, be a mage. But it would do his body harm to use too much magic and thus he would rely mostly on a sword. I would also wager they did research into how to use the Echo for combat, like with Fordola, and fighting with him would be incredibly difficult because of that. So tl;dr, he wouldn’t be in open combat too often. But when he is, he’d still be quite a foe. But his primary use for the military would be his echo. He’d still basically be a slave. He wouldn’t be allowed to act freely without supervision.
iii. RABID ANIMAL
In this verse, he taps into his natural magical abilities and the basic things Niall taught him. He loses control of his abilities thanks to the experiments and kills/severely wounds everyone around him. He is also horribly injured but manages to survive. Maybe he was rescued by a random beast tribe or small group of people or maybe luck was (finally) on his side. He stays by himself, doing whatever he has to in order to survive. Again, physical combat is nearly impossible (even more so than the other verses because of the intense damage caused by his own spells) but he can use magic despite it messing him up. Whether or not he gets to Eorzea depends on my partner and I plotting. He would likely eventually take up being a sage, reaper, or red mage depending on how things go.
ii. LET ME DRINK YOUR LIGHT
Instead of being scouted by the Scions, Roi remained a normal adventurer. He continued his quest for POWER, doing his best to kill his heart with every hardship. He may have began as a helpful adventurer that seemed a friend to the common man. But as time went on, his quest for power led him to the forsaken art of black magic. As he grew more powerful, he was exposed to more and more darkness. Isolation and distrust started him down a bad path. He is now a ruthless criminal, taking whatever he wants and seeking more power. As one of the strongest mages in the realm, there is very little people can do to stop him. His effort to expel all weakness has led him into doing awful things, just as desperation had before that. Roi longs to cast off human weaknesses.
Survival and power are the only things he seeks. Known as a man that could have been a hero, Roi is an ally to those that want people killed. To those that would pay to hurt others. His thirst for power has led him to be one of the most feared men in the underground.
iii. SO I GAVE MYSELF OVER WILLINGLY.
Amyntas was not given the title of Azem. But still traveled and acted the same way. He was against Zodiark and eventually ended up siding with Hydealyn. He and Venat made a deal with each other, if Venat became the heart then he would be a steward. And whatever came after, he would guide the people left if he had to. This led to him not being sundered. He is an ascian, but aligned with Hydealyn to an extent. Trying to prevent his former friends from hurting the sundered and existing in a very fragile existence.
iv. SO DARKNESS I BECAME
Amyntas was Azem and failed to stop the final days. He was not sundered and took his title back and resolved to aide the other unsundered. Almost all of who he was has died in the eons.

Look. I. I don’t mean to write this a crack ship or something.
But...
Zenos and Asahi definitely has something beyond just “master and servant” relationship between them.
Before EW, I wouldn’t dare to say this, but now I will.
First of all, Asahi is not like Yotsuyu and Fordola. Fordola gained her chance to prove herself through Zenos, she asked for it, he gave it to her, and she thanked him, that’s simply an act of respect. Yotsuyu saw in Zenos the chance to get her revenge, she asked him for it, and he gave it to her, we don’t even see Yotsuyu thanked Zenos once. But Asahi?
Tumblr media
Right in this scene, Zenos doesn’t even come to save Asahi, and the latter just comes straight up to thank him. Of all the three people surrounded Zenos in SB, Asahi is the one who shows the most gratitude towards Zenos.
Then we see the moment when Fandaniel popped up in Asahi’s body (it does make you wonder why Fandaniel chooses Asahi’s body to go targeting Zenos), Zenos paused for a while, then immediately used his Eyes of Resonant to see the soul insides.
Tumblr media
Now bear with me, you have to ask why did Zenos have to use the Eyes of Resonant. Like, if he didn’t recognize who that is, he will just need to ask “Who are you?”, without the need to know whose soul is it. But here he went straight at the soul, which means he has already recognized the body. Like why you would think Zenos recognize Asahi, why? Seriously the brat is very much punchable and yet, yet, Zenos recognized Asahi’s body.
Later in EW, we learnt that Zenos allowed Fandaniel to chop up Varis’s corpse in the making of Anima, however, Fandaniel wearing Asahi’s body provokes Zenos a ton of times and gets not one single scratch. Weird? Yes, it’s weird.
And then we have this scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember that Zenos only saved Asahi once, and Asahi didn’t ask anything out from Zenos after that. Asahi totally just worked up his rank on his own. But still, he somehow still says that he will “die a thousand times” to revenge for Zenos. I would say that there has to be something beyond just pure “You save me once, I will save you too”, because a thousand times is a lot, lot more than that.
Also the name Asahi means “Morning Sun” in Japanese. And what was that final stage’s background again?
Tumblr media
Please don’t blame me if you start shipping Zenos/Asahi after this, I’m innocent  ( ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ )

EW Role Quests - Lyn's Thoughts
Having done them all now, I think they're overall mostly decent stories, each having their rough points and highlights.
In all cases there's very little actual combat happening; some here and there in a couple quests, but I barely touched my weapons in most cases until the final blasphemy fight. I didn't necessarily mind that--I play for story after all--I just thought it was weird.
It felt a little strange to not get them at all until 85, and then having them every level through 90. It does make it fit a little awkwardly into MSQ; I guess during however long it takes everyone to answer the call for aid and get to Sharlayan while the Scions knock about Labyrinthos is the best/only time one could fit them into MSQ (given they'd all have to have their expeditions, and then sail/fly to the island, which takes a week or two).
My thoughts/feelings on each of the role quests and a rough ranking below the cut. Arbitrary, subjective, mileage varies, etc.
Healer comes out on top for me; we get more Ala Mhigo focus after it got ignored in its own expansion. There's a continuing thread at the hard work of piecing the nation together and how to reintegrate not only refugees returning home, but also those who felt they had no choice but to collaborate with the Garleans, and how difficult that is. I like how Arenvald has made this his new task to aid Raganfrid with the Silver Griffins, and Fordola's character growth and redemption arc continues. We get to hang with Raubahn, and get a moment to meet with the Sultana. Arenvald also gets some growth and reassurance as he develops new skills while readjusting to his new reality, and meeting Nanamo has an impact. I was so proud of his letters to the leaders of Gyr Abania, too. Basically takes all the points from Ala Mhigo's part of Stormblood, touches on things brought up in some side content, and delivers a decent Mhigan-focused story on how the nation is moving forward post-occupation. Feelings on the healer quests will depend on how much one liked the Ala Mhigan side of StB and the polarizing opinions on a main character involved, really.
The parallel with the 2021 Rising stories comes with Fordola's interactions with a little girl, turning out much better than Yda's interactions with young Fordola.
---------------
Melee may come in second for me, having done it tonight. It does suffer a touch from so much of the Company of Heroes' quests and stories being ARR side content, so likely skipped by many folks, or long forgotten by others (especially parts like the Moogle Mail Delivery quests, where Landanel's got a segment), and most MSQ memory being the pre-Titan shenanigans and mentions here and there. But it continues Merlwyb trying to put the good ship Vylbrand to rights, by working with the sahagin as she has the kobolds. Riol gets a linkpearl-only cameo working with his former crew. There's a lot of good and fairly unique interaction for the WoL here with everyone. The 2021 Rising story parallel is another point of view telling on Bloefhis and Merlwyb eventually having to kill him when he was tempered, and the different paths that led her and her shipmate on. Makes it easy to guess what's coming in the role quests, but that's not a bad thing. This blasphemy battle was roughest for me, but that might have been how late I did it, too.
------------------
Aiming ranks near the bottom for me. Gosetsu and his development is a highlight, as is Yugiri sneaking home in her old ARR costume and the meeting with her parents where I'm pretty sure her mom recognized her but was playing just as cagey as her famous shinobi daughter. Those are the bright points. The rest is a bit of a mess thanks to Doma also suffering the split story of StB and the 4.2 and 4.3 patch story being what it was. Some can be attributed to Hien's lack of experience and no good model of governance; he really should have explained the situation with Yotsuyu ages ago, but that whole plot was mishandled, especially in the time and space a MMO could give it (not much), so the clumsiness continues here. Yotsuyu is also only ever mentioned as a problem, but with a national funeral ceremony, you'd think Gosetsu would have something sweet to contribute (I assume he did we just didn't see/hear about it for privacy). The antagonist's plot concept was interesting, but we never really got her motivation for why she did what she did, either; this was a lifelong habit, not just new, what was new was her using this to rebel against Hien. I dunno, I'll replay it soon on an alt and see if I like it a bit better with the context of the others.
The 2021 Rising story tie in is Hien and Yugiri's lifelong friendship, and Gosetsu bailing them out of some trouble they got into at Swallow's Compass as children, a theme that repeats itself in the modern era.
Again, this one might depend on how much one liked the Doman side of StB and cared about those characters or not.
EDIT ADDENDUM: Redoing this post-EW instead of during MSQ maybe helped, also just the general "have had time to process more of EW" at all. I think it does move up over tank for me, in the end. The funeral service is rather lovely all told, and the story of Minato is woven well through it, as well as the ideas of grief and remembrance. I think it's just my general neutrality on and the over-saturation of all things Doma compared to other aspects of StB that got me the first time through.
-----------------
Tank is middle of the road. More padjal lore, which is also from the 2021 Rising, but it goes further back than Kan-E's difficulty hearing the elementals until she realized she had to work as a triad with her siblings. Gridania has gotten the least amount of spotlight time and plot movement in the story, and it shows. The xenophobia issues are never addressed, and when people of Gridania come together, it's mostly hyurs and wildwoods, with a token duskwight but not a keeper in sight. I like Kan-E, E-Sumi, and padjal lore in general, it's right up my alley, and the blasphemy's tragedy is just "this person could never get a break" so the story works all right but if Gridania had any story in the last ten years, the role quest could have been improved.
Also, the Keeper of Entwined Serpents STILL doesn't get a name, though reiterates his backstory, first told in Kan-E's first Rising story back in ARR. At this point I think everyone knows the WoL forgot/never asked the guy's name and now they're just withholding it on purpose to screw with us.
--------------
Caster is low ranked, and as a disclaimer some of that I know is my personal bias to anything Ward related. This is one of those very few times where the fandom has soured me on a concept.
So that said, Caster is otherwise just there. In some ways, returning to Ishgard is as comfortable as the original trio of cities. In other ways, it's tiring to get the same plot after all this time. I like hanging with Aymeric and Artoirel, figuring out how the people reconcile their faith and the Church with the lies of the last thousand years is fascinating. It's just been touched on in other side content, like the Scholasticate quests (though it is an ongoing process). Just one that feels like there's been no progress on, unlike Limsa's story. Ala Mhigo and Doma being newer gives their ongoing stories sense, but Ishgard feels like its spinning its wheels at this point. Especially after all the hope and joy and progress of the Firmament last expac.
As an American playing a Japanese-based game, there's the awkward convo about the statues of the original Knights Twelve, but that's likely different cultural connotations and beliefs, and Aymeric's opinion is just that, and is given neutrally where one can disagree or not as one wishes (also they'd have to phase Ishgard to look different here too and that's going to start getting messy so some of it might honestly be "we don't want to code that").
If not for the Ward connection, this'd tie with the Tank for me--it's simply that nothing stands out nor feels new. The 2021 Rising connection is in Aymeric and Artoirel working together in this chain; while the short story is framed in the modern political climate, the main point of the story is in their first meeting as boys.
================
Anyway, there you have it; my personal arbitrary subjective opinions and observations on the roles this time.

ffxiv opinions i have that probably would make some people wish death upon me:
aymeric is boring and massively overrated. i dont hate him, hes likeable, but his fans kind of skew that
raubahn does the whole "political guy trying to rebuild his homeland" thing so much better
lucia is also way more interesting than aymeric and deserves better than aymeric fans treat her
(seriously though why the FUCK is aymeric more popular than most of the main scions)
4.0 is better than 3.0, heavensward and stormblood as wholes with the patches are about even in quality
white mage fucking sucks
oblivion (shiva theme) isnt that good
Fordola is an amazing character and i love fordola/arenvald as a ship
the "have you heard of the critically acclaimed mmorpg" copypasta is really annoying and unfunny, there are so many reasons why someone wouldnt want to or cant get into an mmo
The garlemald plotline is good actually. The whole thing yes <3
There are some things WoW does better.

YOTSUYU for the character opinions meme <3
How I feel about this character:
WIFE. I am fiercely protective of Yotsuyu, for a lot of reasons, but I identify with her very strongly as an abuse and rape survivor who was also the scapegoat in the family, and that’s probably why I can’t be rational about her tbh. It’s definitely why I’m so angry about how she was done in canon. This game is generally pretty good in terms of avoiding offensive tropes with antagonists but managed to cram a million of them in Yotsuyu (ofc the evil Dragon Lady got that way bc she was raped and abused). That I love her so much is despite all of that, and seeing the potential in her as a character, and said feelings of protectiveness. I want to give all the good things she deserves. And no I don’t especially care that she did awful things as viceroy. She was a product of her society, had no choices, and could only ever end up the way she did tbh. I don’t blame her for any of it, any more than I blame Estinien for his murderous hatred of dragonkind.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Gisele obvs. But mostly therapy.
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Gosetsu all the live long day. Their extremely unlikely surrogate father/daughter relationship sincerely warmed my heart and honest to dog reminds me of me and my dad--I was also a scared, fragile young survivor who was taken in by a loud old warrior type who’d lost his own kid years ago. Gosetsu’s heart is even bigger than he is, and they were each exactly what the other needed. That he showed her compassion and did his best to protect her despite literally being tortured by her at one point speaks volumes about who he is as a person (I also think maybe he thought he deserved it a little, but I think he’s good at hiding the guilt he feels). And it was compassion she really never had before, from anyone.
But also...Zenos, weirdly enough. He was probably the one man she ever met in her days as an imperial who didn’t treat her like shit. I also absolutely believe they fucked in her short story, at least in Gisele’s verse. For those who haven’t read it, it takes place when she’s working as a courtesan in the brothel and spying. Zenos was there and she tried to get him drunk, seduce him, get him to let his guard down so he’d talk. But he was his typically bored and anhedonic self and nothing she did worked. Some goons came in and tried to kill him, he made short work of them, but during the scuffle some of their blood splattered on her kimono and he finally had a...reaction, after which there was basically a fade to black. The scene was left extremely ambiguous as to how it ended, deliberately so imo (it fits the general MO of the writing in this game to leave these things open-ended), but there’s no other way I can read it. We know battle is the only way he feels anything and he was acting extremely horny for lack of a better term when he saw the blood on her (bc weirdo).
But I’m sticking him in the non-romantic part because obviously it would be terrible and he’s firmly WoLsexual imo. But as big a weirdo as Zenos is, and is batshit crazy as he is, he does value his underlings insofar as much as they are useful. He doesn’t care if they’re ethnically Garlean or not. He doesn’t care about anything but purely pragmatic reasoning. Can you do the job or no?
And when he was mad at her it was because she had failed in his eyes. That was probably the most genuinely positive relationship she ever had up to that point, as sad as it sounds (and gods is it sad).
My unpopular opinion about this character:
Yotsuyu absolutely deserved better than what she got in canon, and is infinitely deserving of the treatment Fordola got, if only because of her backstory, and I will never not be angry that not only did she not get it, but that we had to sit and watch her be gaslit and re-traumatized, then violently murdered by one of her primary abusers. Under the Moonlight is by far the nadir of this game’s writing to me because it wasn’t only bad, it was actively offensive. Again we are shown that abused women don’t deserve anything but villainization and death.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.:
That she had better writing, and that she got to live and heal. She does in Gisele’s canon, and is hanging around the Scions helping Tataru with the books (but she pointedly does not consider herself one). Hien calls her his conscience and her story drives him not to just rebuild Doma but to make it a better society than it was, so that nothing like that ever happens again.

ask thing!!!! mayhap some ship meme asks for fordola/lyse? and/or 4 headcanons for aymeric or y'shtola?
Oh boy!!!!!! Thank you for indulging my brainrot with these lmao! Absolutely massive post under the cut:
Who is the little spoon?
You would think it's Lyse but I feel like Fordola is the unwitting little spoon?? Lyse just bear hugs her at night and she begrudgingly enjoys the attention
Who sings in the shower?
Definitely Lyse! She strikes me as the type to sing to herself all the time
Who plays pranks on the other?
I don't think it would be either, I think Fordola is too serious and Lyse is a little too dense and gullible herself to be the prankster. Maybe after Fordola gets more comfortable she can do that stuff, but it also might go over Lyse's head gjsdjgdsjh
Who is the one who listens to pop music?
Assuming they even have pop music in Eorzea.. Again the obvious answer is Lyse but I'd love if it was the other way?? Lyse beats the shit out of a striking dummy to heavy metal while Fordola jogs to soft pop hits
Who brings the other a random cup of joe?
Lyse would, she is one of those overly thoughtful types but doesn't really know how to properly mother so she's like "here's your fourth cup of coffee, I don't know what else to do so I'm gonna make another pot!"
Who picks the cheesy movies for date night?
If it's cheesy comedy or romance, then Lyse. If it's cheesy horror, then Fordola :D
Who is more likely to feed the other in public?
I don't think either of them would be the type, but more the types to pass a straw back and forth on a smoothie or milkshake or something :D
Who gives the other random little compliments?
Lyse definitely!! Ever since her "you look great btw" comment toward Yugiri, I can only see her giving inappropriately timed little compliments
Who is always stealing food from the other’s plate?
I think Fordola would? She does it like a little act of rebellion, grabbing things from Lyse's plate even though Lyse is more than willing to share? She takes a forkful and Lyse is like "Oh, help yourself! It's really good!!" and makes her mad
Who is more likely to let the other borrow their car?
I don't think either of them should be trusted with a car tbh ghsdjgsd
Who makes the list before they go grocery shopping?
Fordola probably, but Lyse forgets it at home and they just wing it
Who makes sure the other takes their meds when sick?
Fordola would, I think Lyse is probably too scatterbrained to remember even if she was healthy, but Fordola is the type to be very responsible!
Who watches sports and has to teach the other the rules?
Lyse! I see her as such a jock, she probably gets way too into it too
Who pulls the other to their feet for a dance in the living room?
Lyse, definitely! She seems like the type to enjoy dancing, and she's very spontaneous :3
Who has to keep reminding the other to hurry or they’ll be late?
Fordola, she's again, the more responsible half!
Who is the one most likely to get a tattoo with the other’s name?
Oh cringe... I don't think Lyse would want to get any tattoos after having to wear the fake archon brands for 5 years, but if she did want them she would be the type to do that. But realistically neither of them would.
--- Four headcanons: Aymeric
Headcanon A:  realistic
In addition to his canonical hobbies of dancing and cooking, I'd like to think he's musically apt as well! Playing the piano, maybe singing? I love to imagine him singing in the choir as a boy, and his fondness for music transcending beyond Halonic hymns as he gets older.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
Aymeric has an entire house full of cats, he started collecting them after his parents passed on because that big manor was so empty and his stewards had nothing to do while he was working like 16 hours per day.
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
This one is more my wife's headcanon than my own because I'm too much of a shipper to go through with it, but Aymeric's faith making him want to wait until marriage for sex while Ishgard also frowns upon same sex marriage so there is little chance he ever would be able to marry 😭
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
Zephirin is another bastard of Thordan, and therefore Aymeric's half-brother, and taunts Aymeric with it while he's being tortured in the vault 🙃
---
Four headcanons: Y'shtola
Headcanon A:  realistic
Y'shtola cares more about her fellow scions and the WoL than she lets on, hiding it with her dry wit most of the time. When things get really dire, she shows worry on a deep level that none of her colleagues ever could have imagined from her.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
There's some line about Y'shtola "saying she's been 23 for a long time" or something to that effect, so I'd like to believe she's close to twice that but looks flawless due to magic
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
Due to her using forbidden magic and also using her magic in order to see, the ominous warning Matoya gives about her shortening her lifespan comes true. Y'shtola hides it well but becomes very weak, falling into an unending sleep in her last attempt to cheat death.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
As aloof as she is, I'd like to imagine Y'shtola taking on a number of lovers throughout Eorzea. Never anything too serious, more like a fwb situation, but she'd intimately know a girl in just about every settlement. It's one of those closely guarded secrets though, unlike in the case of say, Thancred's exploits.

Arenvald
Oh. Oh, I see. Here comes the anxiety train, choo choo~
How I feel about this character
He’s great. I really enjoy his relentless optimism, not only because he’s a wonderful ray of sunshine among the lesser-known Scions but also because his history shows that he’s seen the worst in people he should have loved and still chooses to see the best in the world and the people in it. I respect that a lot.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Honestly, Alphinaud is about all I can think of. Give the boy some time to get through elf-puberty and let the two see how far their hard-won friendship gets them. They’d be good for one another, I think.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Arenvald dragging Fordola kicking and screaming towards forgiveness and peace of mind is very good to me. Between him and Lyse, there’s a lot more hope for Fordola than she ever could have hoped for, and her own acidic realism works well to keep Arenvald’s feet on the ground and his eyes open. They’re two sides of the same battered coin in a lot of ways.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I… don’t really have one? I guess not wanting him and Fordola to hook up might be one? I dunno. He’s a good boy. He doesn’t need unpopular opinions weighing him down.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
Please pull through, Arenvald. Please.

Unique features (scars, tattoos, etc.): a scar going through her left eyebrow, a scar going down her left side, and claw mark scars on her right arm
Personal Beliefs (religious or otherwise): Used to be mostly indifferent, saw gods as challenges for a while, since dating and marrying Sadu, her beliefs line up with the Dotharl, where the soul gets reincarnated after death. (Events in shadowbringers reaffirmed this belief)
Residence: She has a house in the black shroud, and she shares Sadu’s tent in the Dotharl Khaa
Birth place: The Ruby Sea
Dreams: She dreams of being a mom, and having a quiet uneventful life in the shroud with her wife
Fears: She fears losing her loved ones, or through inaction causing the world to suffer horrible fates
Introverted / Extroverted / Ambiverted (bold what applies)
How do they handle stress?: Not well, she’s susceptible to breakdowns
What’s the state of their living quarters? (messy, clean, etc.): Super tidy, Sadu leaves stuff all over the place and it drives Lizzy up a wall

What’s their favourite outfit?: Her goggles, her favourite oversized sweatshirt, with a skirt and some leggings, with her sneakers
Traumas/Personality quirks: After experiencing multiple friends dying, she’s developed an incredible fear for the safety of those close to her. Before meeting Sadu she was much more introverted, and avoided physically hitting people, but after they met Lizzy learned how to use daggers and became increasingly more lethal. When Lizzy is mad people say that it reminds them of Sadu but from a small god-killing lizard with knives
About Them as of Current story patch: Lizzy spends her free time with Sadu trying to prepare for their child on the way, though she’s also started picking up more of the Khatun responsibilities from Sadu for the Dotharl tribe so she could get more rest.
History: Lizzy lived with her biological family in the Ruby Sea, but one day when she was really young her family was attacked while travelling via ship. She fell overboard and nearly drowned, but was saved by the kojin. She got thrown into the orphan system and eventually got adopted by a family in Gridania. Shortly after, she made changes to her gender and and mostly stayed home avoiding social interactions out of fear of being judged, since there was no Au Ra’s in the shroud. When the calamity hit, her parents were casualties in it, and she survived for several years by staying out in the shroud. When she turned 18 she decided to try and become an adventurer, starting as a conjurer to try and help people, she later branched into arcanist and then scholar as she loved pouring into books and absorbing information. She never thought about pursuing anyone romantically until she saw Sadu on the steppe, when she first met her she was incredibly quiet, and whenever Sadu looked at her in any way she blushed a lot. After the nadaam, Lizzy made efforts to try and win Sadu’s heart, eventually succeeding, and they were married the month after the starlight festival. They had a dotharl wedding and an eorzean wedding, to accommodate everyone possible, and respect their personal traditions. Shortly after their wedding scions started dropping and then shadowbringers happened. During shadowbringers, Lizzy feared for her own life, and after visiting Sadu for what she believed was the last time. Resulting in Sadu becoming pregnant.
Feelings towards others: (add or remove as relevant)
- Yshtola – Lizzy thought she might have had feelings for Y’shtola for a while, but ultimately decided they were incompatible. Lizzy does still admire Y’shtola and looks up to her in many ways.
- Alphinaud – Baby. He’s just a little man. Lizzy feels bad for all of his failures, and hopes that he makes it through this period of his life with minimal trauma.
- Alisaie – Baby, but she needs to be put into time out. She puts herself in danger too many times.
- Thancred – Lizzy appreciates Thancred, and after she became a ninja they bond over infiltration techniques. She let him hold her daggers once and regrets it to this day.
- Urianger – ‘Prithee thee’ shut up. Lizzy hates how he talks. She will defend him with her whole life, but please for the love of Nhaama shut up.
- Tataru – Adorable, fierce, a force to be reckoned with. Feral.
- Papalymo – Lizzy has a respect for him, he taught her a bunch before she became a scion
- Cid – A very nice man, she treats him like her grandfather but he’s only like 10 years older than her
- Nero – Lizzy didn’t like him at first and wanted to have him utterly not involved at the beginning of Omega. She’s fine with him now, but thinks he’s a little know-it-all
- G’raha – Lesbian finds herself wanting to Protect local cat boy. Not sure why.
- Ascians – She understands their pain and their motives, but cannot justify the countless deaths at their hands
- Lyse – A fellow punchy girl, likes sparring with her, even if Lizzy wins every time.
- Magnai – Hate.
- Sadu – WIFE. THAT’S HER WIFE. WIFEWIFEWIFEWIFEWIFEWIFEWI
- Cirina – A very cute woman, Lizzy enjoyed spending time with the Mol
- Yugiri – A fellow ninja, originally taught Lizzy loose concepts before proper training, Lizzy deeply respects her, and hopes she’s happy
- Gosetsu – Friend shaped old man
- Fordola – Lizzy doesn’t trust her. She feels like Fordola is if you took Sadu but made her evil. Both tried to kill Lizzy, but it’s ok when Sadu does it.
- Yotsuyu - :( Lizzy feels really bad about this.
- Asahi – Friend because of Meeps. If it weren’t for Meeps Lizzy would NOT trust him.
- Other Warrior of Lights – Friends!!!! Lizzy loves her friends!!! She feels bad about not spending as much time with them because of the everything.

You're still doing the character thingies? Asahi and Lolorito then!
I do as long as people send me asks for it, and I’m somehow not surprised that you sent one for Asahi and Lolorito XD
Tumblr media
How I feel about this character
Let’s start with his sister because it’s hard to talk about what I like and don’t like with him otherwise.
Yotsuyu was a piece of shit so egotistical than she couldn’t apparently realize than she was far from being the only one suffering and thought that her sadness and pain was worth selling her whole country to the Empire for crumbs of power. This in itself would have been alright: she was a villain, after all. But then they tried to feed us the “but she has a tragic past!” bullshit and throw Asahi at us to make Yotsuyu look better and uh... no.
From a purely writing point of view, I find their dichotomy interesting because at heart, they’re not that different. One was treated like dirt by her family (though dirt they could sell away), the other like the Seventh Wonder he definitely wasn’t and yet still a commodity to increase their comfort, and in the end neither of them felt like they had the attention they deserved. And neither did.
As much as Asahi and his parents’ life was comfortable in Garlemald, they weren’t Garlean by birth. No matter what Asahi could do, it couldn’t be enough to obtain recognition without prejudice.
I think it’s the main reason why his meeting with Zenos changed him so much. His parents weren’t the kind to provide emotional support and I doubt anybody bothered easing his life before so one act of kindness suddenly took an importance it wouldn’t have had if his parents had raised him with care and love.
At the end of the day though, he’s a lot like his sister. Had he been the one sold to a pleasure house and her the one sent to Garlemald, I’m not sure Doma would have known a different path. So I don’t like him as a person but he was an alright antagonist. I just don’t like how they used him to make Yotsuyu look better.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
No one in canon but I like what you did with Meeps :p
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Eh.... Nobody? Zenos didn’t remember him and he betrays everyone else.
My unpopular opinion about this character
He’s an interesting character but the scenario used him as a cliché plot device and it’s a shame. There was a lot of potential to draw parallels between him and Fordola while exploring the difference between her who was stuck and abused in Gyr Abania and him who was “free” in Garlemald.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I think I developed that already XD

How I feel about this character
I stopped playing the game just before the Bloody Banquet, and I mean that very literally. By the time I went back to FFXIV, I didn’t remember anything of MSQ and since I did it in English from the beginning and wasn’t as good then as I am now, probably didn’t understand everything right either. So Lolorito? Who even was that guy?
Eight muses later, I think he’s a great character.
I’d love to develop my point but I’m just going to reword this if I do so I just encourage people to follow the link and read. That’s pretty much what I think about him, aka: since the richest you are, the more power you have in Ul’dah, Lolorito has been the effective ruler of the city-state for a very long time and that makes him and his choices a lot more interesting than they appear to be at first glance.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Well, I encouraged you to ship Meeps with him so obviously, Meeps :p
Otherwise nobody from the game.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
OTP is a strong word but I like how his relationship with Nanamo evolved in Stormblood. Generally speaking, if we had a series of quests about them and how they manage the city nowadays, I’m sure it’d be really interesting.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I mean, I like him (as a character). Isn’t it unpopular enough?
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
Nothing specifically, truth be told.
[Thanks for the ask @meepsthemiqo! My last OOC post was indeed about Asahi XD]
