I have SO MANY feelings about Kanan, Zeb, and Rex all being some of the last few survivors of dying cultures.
Even though the Jedi can pass on their teachings and there will always be more Force sensitive people in the galaxy, the specific culture of the Prequels Jedi that Kanan grew up with will never completely come back. Jedi like Ezra and Luke will share a lot of similarities, obviously, especially philosophically, but their way of life and traditions will look VERY different, as will whatever ends up evolving from them (and from Rey if we include the Sequels).
Similarly, Zeb finds the Lasat on Lira San, but those Lasat will presumably have a VERY different culture than the one that existed on Lasan. The two groups of Lasat have been separated for so long that Lira San has become legend and is thought to not really exist and even the people who believe it exists don't realize what it actually is and that there are other Lasat on there. This implies that it's been an EXTREMELY long time since the Lasat of Lasan originally left Lira San and the two groups have probably diverged quite a bit. Lira San itself is also just not going to feel like Lasan, it won't have the same landscapes or wildlife, the cities will be different. The language might even have some significant differences that the last three Lasan survivors would have to navigate. And there's no getting back that culture from Lasan, it's gone. There's only three known survivors and they're going to end up just... engulfed into the Lira San culture without a lot of ability to pass on what they remember from Lasan. Lasan might end up like... a chapter in a Lira San history text and that's probably it. The nuances of its culture will be lost completely.
And the clones. The clones are just going to completely disappear. People will likely only remember the clones even existed because the war got named after them. All they'll be remembered FOR is violence and death. Depending on who is talking about them, they'll either be the traitors who destroyed the Jedi and allowed the Empire to reign, or the poor pawns that the Empire used to destroy the Jedi and keep the galaxy under its thumb. Who they were will be completely and utterly lost. And there's no way for them to continue in any form. While it's POSSIBLE that a few of them might have sired children out in the galaxy somewhere, we never have any confirmation of that, and nearly all of them are dead by the time the Empire falls. Their friendship with the Jedi, what little culture they were able to develop, all of that is lost to time and will disappear once the final clone dies.
It's such a horrific thing that is happening to these three characters, a slow dying out that that's literally happening in front of their very eyes. It's the worst kind of connection between the three of them, but something that's probably really important in their various relationships. No one else understands this grief the way they do, no one else quite understands how this feels, the helplessness and hopelessness. There's absolutely nothing they can do but try to keep going and remember their people as best they can and live according to the culture the Empire has tried to eradicate.
I like to think the three of them end up discussing it one day, maybe one Empire Day they all just decide to go drinking and be maudlin together. And Kanan ends up talking about how the Jedi believed that there was no death, there was the Force. Everyone who dies rejoins the Force, so even if they're gone they're still impacting the galaxy and the people living in it, regardless of whether those who remain can feel them or not. Maybe you get a burst of inspiration or have a lucky break or meet someone you instantly click with, and maybe that's the people who've left before you still touching your life through the Force, binding you together no matter what. Zeb and Rex really connect to this belief and end up finding comfort and even a little healing in it.

A concept that won't leave my head now that I have started watching Rebels is "The Ashla haunting Kallus to help the surviving Lasat"
Like during the Fall of Lasan he ends up realising what happened and prays for forgiveness knowing that it will go unheard, but it doesn't. And the Ashla will make sure that Kallus repays his debt.

Lasat / Lasan / Lira San headcanons that are canon to me because there's absolutely nothing to prove me otherwise.
-they had/have some of the most advanced technology. It's just mostly based in nature (being that of a plant-based or a cosmic-based, integrating the two with tech).
-their weaponry advancements had been made at a leisure pace and it was all mostly a one-on-one combat based. Fight with honor to your opponent rather than just trying to obliterate entire legions.
^--because of that, they didn't have fighting ships. No large ships, or even single pilot fighters. They didn't need it.
-a lot of disputes were settled with a fight, yes, but a fight with rules, with honor.
-they are largely community based. Lower class citizen isn't really a concept, a ruler is chosen off of who best meets the needs of every citizen. If you fail, you have to fight. But this is very rarely the case.
-lasan & Lira San are very diverse, villages, traditions, customs, they vary from area to area and they work together when one needs help.
-because the lasat were so advanced and independent, they kept to themselves. They had no reason, need, or desire to have to deal with off-planet affairs. What helped cement this was the fact that Lasan is so far off. They rarely got visitors. They were kind to the visitors they did get, most of them simply lost and low on supplies.

So we’re never told exactly how old Zeb is but given he was a Captain of a pretty prestigious group on his home planet he’s probably well into adulthood, right? At least past college years?
Every now and then I remember that, look at Rebels, look at Ezra, look at Zeb and Ezra, and just have to start laughing.
This is a grown man.
Who has beef with a teenager.
The Captain of the Honor Guard of Lasan.
Beefing with a kid they picked up off the street last Benduday.
Beautiful.

Interesting fic stuff to consider
Zeb and Kallus’ most traumatic battles involve them being knocked unconscious and coming too after all the devastation (or in the middle of it depending)
But also, the fact that Zeb was knocked unconscious and Kallus was there for the siege means that he COULD have stepped over Zebs body at some point (we don’t know where Kallus was exactly during the siege but that fact that he fought an honor guard heavily implies he was in the same area as Zeb)
They missed seeing each other for the first time by one blast 💥

ways to transition to kalluzeb s2 ahsoka
okay just two scenes that are in my head
no.1 - kallus and zeb fighting on a scenic overlook. zeb has his bo-rifle, maybe kallus has one too. they're going at it, looking like they will kill each other until kallus ends up victorious, mirroring their first fight where ezra saves zeb. before he takes the final blow he offers his hand out to zeb and helps him up. they laugh it off and kallus comments smth like "you're getting better," and they go about their day until zeb gets a call from hera saying they're needed on corellia for a "reason she canot disclose."
no.2 - i like this one better but yk less plausible. purge of lasan, kallus commanding troops at the front of the action. he ends up in a fight with a lasat who we realize is zeb before he kills him. kallus wakes up from the nightmare and looks over at zeb, sleeping beside him. cut to kallus on their front porch, looking up at the night sky. he squints, seeing a ship come into view. it comes closer and he realizes it's the ghost. assuming hera needs a babysitter, he waits patiently until they touch down. the ramp lowers and out comes hera and jacen with ezra in tow. kallus freezes upon seeing him and scrambles into the house to wake up his partner.

kit! Zeb idea you say? 👀👀👀
Yeee!! 👀👀👏
So I talked about this briefly on the discord, but basically! It's an old concept that I'm finally working on of Zeb getting temporarily turned back into a kit through some Force shenanigans.
He, unfortunately, has no memory of his present and is understandably confused and scared. He's somehow far away from home with no memory of how he got there– all he remembers is telling his parents goodnight before suddenly waking up on an unfamiliar ship!
So it's a mix of slice of life and angst– with the Specters and Kallus having to deal with a rambunctious kit running around the Rebellion base. Doesn't help that they have no idea how to take care of a kit and can't communicate clearly with him because he really only speaks Lasana. Thankfully we have Kallus who was learning a bit of Lasana (along with maybe Sabine? Haven't made up my mind) who can somewhat translate.
I also wanted baby Zeb to keep asking to go home– he misses his parents and siblings. But for some reason whenever he asks these strangers who call themselves his friends, they just sadly smile and keep telling him that "he'll go home soon they promise." :) Kallus especially looks distraught whenever he mentions it :)

Zeb brings Rex to Lira San at some point to introduce him to the people there, both the Lasat who had already been there as well as the two Lasat survivors from Lasan. I have to assume that the culture on Lira San is significantly different from the culture that had developed on Lasan. Lira San is literally thought of as a LEGEND on Lasan from what we know which means it has been so long that these two cultures have probably developed in very different directions over time. So while there's probably stuff that Zeb IS familiar with on Lira San, there's going to be so much that he's being introduced to for the first time, as well.
Zeb is so excited to introduce Rex to his people, his culture, but he hasn't really ever spent any time on Lira San himself. He went down quickly to get the other two survivors settled there the first time they arrived and, for security reasons, doesn't go back until after the Empire is defeated. So he's not quite prepared for what it's actually like there. He tries showing Rex things he remembers of his culture, but everything is off or wrong somehow, and he ends up feeling like he doesn't know ANYTHING about these people or this culture and instead of being fun, it's just frustrating and devastating for Zeb, especially since Rex seems genuinely impressed by everything anyway, no matter how wrong it is. Eventually, he just snaps because he can't take it anymore and storms off.
Rex follows and Zeb tries to tell him to leave because he'll never get it and Zeb can't begin to understand. Rex says that Zeb's right, he'll never get it, because his people won't ever have something like this. Rex is never going to find some hidden enclave of the clones somewhere that have been safely and peacefully developing their culture on their own. It's just him and Gregor and Wolffe now, as far as Rex knows and it always will be. So Rex will never understand the pain that Zeb is currently going through by being confronted with a culture that feels like it SHOULD be familiar, but isn't quite. He'll never be confronted with an entire culture that manages to simultaneously bring him so much joy and relief as well as endless pain and devastation.
But this puts him in a unique position of being able to see the Lira San culture through the eyes of an outsider, without the pain it causes Zeb. He offers to show Zeb what HE sees when he looks at Lira San, to let Zeb explore this culture through Rex's eyes instead of his own. Zeb agrees, reluctantly, but it actually works. They go back through the market, the landmarks of this city they're staying in, the surrounding landscapes, the people, the language, the music. And instead of being frustrated at what he CAN'T see, he starts just enjoying being able to listen to what Rex CAN see. He can't always see it himself, he knows that it might take him a while to see it for himself and that sometimes he might NEVER see it, but for now, it's enough that Rex can see it and enjoy it and tell Zeb all about it.
They try a bunch of new foods together, they spar together and practice both the fighting styles they already know as well as try to learn local Lira San styles, they take a lot of trips out across the planet to see its different flora and fauna, they go see performances. Rex and Zeb just... spend a long time experiencing everything Lira San has to offer. And Zeb recognizes the irony in Rex having to sort-of introduce Lasat culture to him instead of the other way around, but he loves Rex so much for giving him this. He already knew how much Rex meant to him, he wouldn't have brought Rex to Lira San otherwise, but this is the moment he realizes he's going to spend the rest of his life with Rex.
In return, Zeb tries to ask Rex about the clones as much as he can. He asks Rex to talk about Wolffe and Gregor, but also about everyone he's lost. He asks about the 501st, and learns about Fives and Echo, about Hardcase and Dogma, about Tup and Jesse and Kix, about Appo and Denal and so many others. He asks about the other captains and commanders and hears about Cody and Fox and Ponds and Bly and Gree and Doom and Monnk. He asks how the clones chose their names and hears so many stories about the different ways clones got their names, some choosing them for themselves and some being given them by other clones, some naming themselves after something they loved and some naming themselves something that sounded cool at the time. He asks about hair and tattoos and learns about whether Rex ever wanted to dye his hair a different color and what everybody's tattoos meant and how the clones learned to tattoo each other when they left Kamino and started to see tattoos on other species.
And Zeb doesn't just ask for these stories so he alone can hear them, he sometimes asks when they're just walking around the marketplace and have picked up a gaggle of little Lasat kids who think they're cool and are perfectly happy to try to follow along with the stories Rex tells about his people. Rex always makes sure those stories are funny or heroic. He saves the sad ones for when he and Zeb are alone.
It turns out that the Lasat also had a tattooing culture of its own. The people of Lasan had had their own styles of course, but the practice itself had been brought there from Lira San, so Zeb asks Rex if he would want to teach the clones' style of tattooing to the tattoo artists on Lira San, so that the style at least could live on even if the clones themselves did not. Rex needs a few minutes to get himself together enough to try to teach anyone anything, but he is more than happy to work with the tattoo artists and pass along what he knows of his people's tattoo culture. Afterwards, Zeb asks if Rex wants to get tattooed with him, something they could share. A piece of both of their cultures, linking them together.
Rex says yes, because this is the moment HE decides he's going to spend the rest of his life with Zeb.

Unbridled Potential | Kalluzeb Sentinel/Guide AU
Act I Chapter 1: Sensitive
Alex's hand jumps to his hair, immediately finding the still tender bruise surrounding a closed, scabbed up gash near where the implant had been. Or. Perhaps still was, but it certainly wasn't functioning now. And he's been captured. By some Xeno colony--possibly taken hostage on a Xeno world, one he knows nothing about.

Writing Kalluzeb Every Day for a Year - Day 27
Idea: (February Writing Challenge 2023: Day 9 – First Flight)
Alexsandr’s first flight into space was shortly after joining the Imperial Academy. The cadets were being taken off world to another facility for two weeks to expose and familiarize them with operations in other outposts. To get used to the idea of transition and adaptation in a short time period.
Many of the cadets like Alex had never left the Lower Levels of Coruscant, let alone the planet.
Alex tried not to be too obvious about wanting a closer position to the view-ports but he wasn’t the only one subtly fighting for a position.
He felt the transport lift off and his eyes snapped to the nearest view port, Jovan’s condescending chuckle next to him.
“Calm down, Kallus. You act like you’ve never been in a transport before. It’s no different.”
But it was different. Jovan didn’t understand.
Yes, the sensation was the same, but the view was different.
He watched as the buildings, the Upper Levels that once towered over him and his kind, were falling away beneath him. He was leaving behind the, supposedly, untouchable and unreachable and going even higher.
All the corruption and indulgence of the upper classes were falling away from beneath his feet and he was going somewhere higher. Somewhere bigger and greater than all of them.
He was going somewhere clearer and with greater meaning.
Kallus’s eyes shone with determination as the atmosphere of the planet faded away to the dark and light spotted expanse of space and his path into a greater galaxy.
-
Garazeb’s first flight into space was the day after Lasan fell.
There was fire and rubble, screams and crying, the palace was gone and so were the people he’d sworn to defend.
His people were destroyed, his planet was dying.
And he meant to die with it. To die with honor taking as many of the enemy out with him.
But the explosion had knocked unconscious. He wasn’t there to defend anyone. He failed.
A few other survivors had grabbed him in his shock and grief and dragged him to a transport. Some wookies had come around and assisted on taking them away, to retreat.
Zeb hated every second of it.
He gripped his hands into fists, claws digging into the flesh of his palm. His head spun from the strange movement and possible head injury.
He was leaving, he was retreating, he was running away, and it was all they could do.
Garazeb looked out the nearest view port at the devastation below.
He’d never seen his home from so high up, had always meant to, to see the sprawl of beauty that was his home and his duty to protect. Now he was seeing it and it was all gone. Blackened, smoking, and scarred.
His vision blurred and his eyes burned. He couldn’t look anymore at his failure.
He fell back against the bench of the transport staring at nothing, his head spinning with loss and uncertainty of what to do now, of what was to come.
His eyes vaguely registered the change from atmosphere to the cold, star-speckled, dark expanse of space for the first time.
