Tbh I thought your username "letmemakeuproud" was like a good interpretation of part of Hordak's relationship to Horde Prime before he finally breaks free from him.
Honestly, this is such a good interpretation though!!
I'm sorry to dissapoint and say that this is merely a reference to a song of the same name from Tangled The Series, I've had this username for about a year now I think, way before I watched She-Ra, but,
I just came back from listening to the song again now and I have to say, it does have a lot of similarities to Hordak & Prime's relationship before he breaks free.
Here's just a little quote from the song that I felt fits especially well:
"And when I return
And I'm more than you dreamt I'd be
Maybe then you will realize
That you never actually knew me at all"
I recommend checking out the song because a) it's pretty neat musically in general and b) to see those similarities too! :>
but thank you so much for pointing this out! this just gave me an entire new outlook on both the song and now my username as well xD (makes me happy since I wanted a way to make my username She-Ra related anyway, haha)

I've always been curious, why is varian's apron pink?
Tumblr media
My eyes saw this and went “yeah that’s maroon right” and then it just kinda morphed into pinker color slowly over time as I drew him without a reference more and more. Drawing the characters without a reference is actually a really important part of this blog so they can look as shitty as possible.
my earlier drawings of him were closer to the real color but yeah I don’t care super a lot about accuracy on this blog cause it amplifies the badly drawn part of badly drawn tangled, so varian gets a cute pinkish apron and he will LIKE IT!!!

What did you think of the tangled finale?? :0
I thought it was cute! Didn’t go exactly how I thought it would (thought the stakes would be a bit higher and Cass would have to earn her place back a little more) but I really enjoyed it overall.

Replication: Entrapdak Fanfiction
So @letmemakeuproud made this post a while ago, and being such a sucker for fluff like this, I wrote a fic inspired by the concept! I wanted to write it sooner when I first saw the post, but hey, later is better than nothing :)
Summary:
When Hordak is hurting, Entrapta makes suggestions on how to lift his spirits and help him feel better.
But thankfully, he already has a certain idea in mind.
Read the fic here!

Horde Prime and his Shadows
To no one’s surprise, I have *thoughts* about this. @letmemakeuproud has brought up an interesting question.
CW// I will be critical of institutional religion - not of God or faith in God.
To be clear, I believe in God as such:  "The Kingdom of God is inside/within you (and all about you), not in buildings/mansions of wood and stone. (When I am gone) Split a piece of wood and I am there, lift the/a stone and you will find me."                                                                    - Gospel of Thomas saying 77b
One thing that sounds familiar to me (and my own upbringing  while being exposed to Christian culture- albeit an Orthodox Christian one and in a former communist country where the Church holds little sway)  was that the way the priest described Hell was: the absence of  God. (my church was less about fire and brimstone and more about God’s love)
Despite the fact that Orthodoxy is more about forgiving the sinner and love rather then judgment as is Western Christianity, there was one thing that was always condemned: Doubt.
Doubting God’s love and doubting His plan was a gateway to sin. Any form of doubt was lowkey condemned. It had to be removed through any means necessary, delude yourself however you like so long as you convince yourself of God’s all encompassing love.
I have never been an ardent believer and even now, a lot of scripture rings hollow but that bit of it stuck with me despite my efforts to shrug off religion in general.
God is the Light, darkness and hell is his absence.
Horde Prime believes himself a god. He legitimately chugs his own mountain dew. He is, for all intents and purposes - the clone’s God. He appears to be immortal, omniscient and omnipresent.
To him and his doctrine, anything that displeases him and his image of perfection is sin - darkness.
He has convinced his brothers that they are nothing, parts of the whole. He sees them as that and they believe it. Any evidence to the contrary is sin. A clone that is different and imperfect, a clone that is distinct is sinful - it must be cast out of heaven, cast out of Prime’s light.  It is evidence of Prime’s own imperfection.
Tumblr media
(reminds me of Lucifer falling from the Heavens)
Tumblr media
Worse still, penitent though he may have been, Hordak, even in his desire to please and get back into Horde Prime’s Light was misguided.  He had not realized that by attempting to prove his worth to Horde Prime, he would be in essence, proving that Prime had been mistaken about his deficiency to begin with.
He had been judged and found unworthy. Horde Prime Knows All, Horde Prime Sees All. He could not have been wrong. Hordak’s attempts were always destined to fail from the start, the premise was flawed at the core but Hordak’s own wishful thinking prevented him from seeing the fault in his personal mission.
In his isolation, he had become even more distinct, his own person with a life and a name - an abomination.
His erasure and reconditioning were a way for Prime to reassert his perfection to the rest of the flock. (before he sent the invalid again on a suicide mission later)
Prime - in his mercy and his infinite compassion had found a lost yet penitent brother, a sinner and had allowed him back into his Light.
The Purification scene is one in which Prime reassesses his  power and ‘mercy’ to his brothers by doing what must be done to keep this wayward sheep into the flock.
Tumblr media
(yeah Prime, you’re “sorry”. this is definitely not how you get your kicks or anything  /s )
Tumblr media
(look at how sorry he is. It’s a blink and you miss it thing but his extra eyes twitch with excitement)
The fact that his brothers are willing to suffer to please him, to become what he deems as pure pleases him immensely. His power is based on their suicidal devotion.
The reason they are dressed mostly in stark white while he is not is because Horde Prime does not apply the same standards to himself. His brothers must suffer, He does not.
He will never admit any flaw or imperfection of his own. (see his censoring of any information about Krytis or  when rebellions appear in his territories - the fault lies with the misguided subjects. THEY are the ones mistaken in their actions, never Prime.)
Even when faced with defeat he is convinced of his immutability and immortality.
Tumblr media
It’s also hilarious to not that as he is being exorcized, Prime is depicted as a shadow leaving Hordak’s body
Tumblr media
and destroyed by actual light
Tumblr media
Prime’s light had been a lie, a flame that consumed everything it touched. He did not bring light - he merely left ashes in his wake. He was a parasite that fed on everything he touched - his brothers most of all. He consumed them so completely that they were reduced to empty shells in their desperate bid to earn his favor, his love.
Tumblr media
The dichotomy of a light, pure aesthetic and the rot and horror that lay beneath the surface is poignant.
Just like in real life religions - the leaders are never beholden to the same rules as the lowly follower.
All institutional religions have a stated mission and a hidden agenda. After all - they are human institutions - and humans are small  and fallible and they have human goals - be that extending their influence geographically or politically.
One of the most common things for all religions (all of them) is that of spurning doubt and encouraging blind faith.
Believe and do not question.
Because rational thought would be the end of faith. If something must be proven - then you do not believe in it.
It is this blind faith that keeps a lot of us from seeing how we are being consumed for someone else’s fire.  It is the basis of indoctrination.

@letmemakeuproud I think it's a funny thought that Hector might be beside himself about the events at the Tree after learning Eugene's identity, and I've seen other people suggest that! So this might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually... don't think he would?
I think it depends on if you think his loyalty is primarily to the institution of the crown, to Edmund as a person, the Dark Kingdom as a country, or his own beliefs and ideals. It also depends on how conditional that loyalty is to him and Edmund sharing a cause. We never saw Hector's reaction to Edmund abdicating his duty to protect the moonstone, so it's kinda hard to say imo, and up to interpretation.
In general, I think he saw taking the party out as a necessity, and wouldn't feel bad that one of those people happened to be the king's long lost son, because he had no way of knowing. He was also acting on Ed's orders at the time to keep everyone away, and the king > prince. (Let's not forget that Edmund also tried to murder Eugene.)
If Hector truly drank the 'divine right' Kool Aid, he would probably feel p wretched for trying to kill a member of the royal family, regardless of context. But in that case, consider: Eugene later gives up his role as a Dark Prince by choosing to not uphold his family’s legacy. Do we think Hector would see that as a betrayal, making Eugene a traitor and validating his earlier actions?
I also think that after 25 years, Hector was motivated by something stronger than purely following orders- genuine belief that he was protecting the world with his extremism, or devotion to Edmund and belief in him as more than just a ruler. And w/ that interpretation, I think he'd feel justified in his actions and not guilty.
That’s just my take tho! There’s a lot of room for it to go either way, and Hector blue screening a bit at the realization would also be fun

So.. I'm still here
I gotta apologize for the sudden disappearance :') but I'm back with a few updates!
I changed my username from letmemakeuproud to banana-vatore to match my Instagram (of the same name) since it's the social media I'm most active on, and also I didn't feel like having a username tied to a fandom I'm no longer really a part of. (Tangled The Series)
And.. I don't think I'll be back to posting regularly as I used to. My She-Ra hyperfixation has pretty much run it's course and I wouldn't feel like forcing myself to post about something I'm no longer as passionate about, so I hope you understand.
Though! I may not post about it myself but I'm sure as hell will keep up with the rest of y'all's post :')

@letmemakeuproud made a post about Melog turning into Horde Prime so I decided to try my hand at editing them to make it look like Prime is there!
The first one is my favorite, honestly. I had to add in a few things but it was easy. The second one was hard..
Both were off model, actually, and not just because of Melog. The first one didn't have his forehead cables, and the second has his eyes all wonked up. Also the mandibles in both were awkward.
I think I did a decent job.

You know i just had a realization as replying to the post to @letmemakeuproud and..
It just occured to me that while yes, Adora is She Ra, and you could say Etheria still chose her, in a way to be it'e She Ra. She chose to be herself, etc.
But... if Mara and Adora are first ones, but just had a random sword to control She Ra, wouldn't there be a slight, and I mean slight, chance of another She Ra on Etheria? With no controlling sword, just a free willed person doing good and learning how to use their abilites.
Like Adora in s5. Magic sword, or weapon of choice suddenly appearing because they were worthy.
