I've always been curious about this kind of thing, so I thought I'd ask, if you're willing to share, how did you become friends with @dianeduane and the other writers around here? Was it before or after you both became authors, before or after you made it big? Through writing or through other things?

I'm a scientist (also a profession where networking is a Skill to be Learned) and aspiring writer - also a big fan of yours and Mz. Duane's work - and I've always wondered how people form these networks of professional/friendly contacts.

Hello! You made SLARPG in RPG Maker VX Ace, yes? We're looking at getting into RPG Maker ourselves and are curious to hear from someone who's used them how the versions compare. Why VX Ace and not MV or MZ? Would you recommend that version over the others? Thank you so much for your insight!!

slarpg was made in rpg maker vx ace because it was built off of the bones of an earlier project from 2013, when vx ace was the newest version available. i debated upgrading, but ultimately decided against it. knowing myself, i knew that the work needed to redo everything (mv and mz use 50% higher resolution assets and a completely different scripting language) would have probably been enough to discourage me from ever finishing the game in the first place - particularly because slarpg began as a "quick" and "easy" fallback project when i got burnt out and depressed after trying to make an overly-ambitious narrative adventure game in unity. of course, the vx ace version still ended up taking me almost eight years to make, but the alternative probably would have been to burn out immediately, so for me i can't necessarily say that sticking with the worse engine was the wrong choice

mine was a special case. to my knowledge, there's basically no reason for a new dev to use vx ace. just jump straight to mz. (now there's also rpg maker unite, based in unity, but it's still in beta and i'm hearing very mixed things.) do not make a game in rpg maker vx ace in this day and age unless you really, really want to have to explain to people why your game isn't on mac and switch every day for the rest of your life

Because I make so many AUs. Have Nos. SCP AU of MZ (technichally).

Description under the cut!

Designation: SCP-0667, Nos (derivative of Nosferatu) Sex | Species: Male | ??? Height: 12′7″ AppearingAge: Early 30s Age: As old as Humanity itself. Classification: Euclid, Keter class

Nos is an SCP, Keter Class. He's been around since Humans have existed, primarily because they are his food source.

How he eats is by piercing the flesh of a victim and then drinks the liquified insides until the body is nothing but dry flesh (think Cell). 

How this is done is through a symbiotic relationship Nos has with microscopic creatures (SCP-0667-B) that act as an extension of self. They essentially enter a target's body through any opening, usually under the nails or through being inhaled, or opening of some sort (eyes, nose, mouth, ears, wounds, etc). Upon breaching, they liquidize the prey from the inside-- Bone, blood, muscle, fat, anything and everything. The description of the victim before death as the insides are liquified for the SCP to eat is the unpleasant sensation of 'bugs' under the skin or the 'static' that comes with loss of feeling in a limb, like when it falls asleep, moving from the extremities of the prey first towards the center of the body, to reduce thrashing and expelling of the insides.

The reach of the 0667-B emits a sort of field also makes it easier for Nos to adapt to populated areas in his smaller forms (to blend in with the organics); the microscopic entities settle in a potential group of prey's brains, broadcasting brain waves to SCP-0667, essentially comparable to mind reading.

While inside the brain, the creatures emit endorphins that prevent victims from entering a panicked state, though they seem to have a side effect of allowing Nos to discern their language and thoughs, or to read their actions to a degree.

This field can cause minor amnesia, like a group of prey not realizing one of their own is missing, and triggers their brains to fill the gaps so that if one victim is picked off from the group, the rest of the herd will simply not realize the absence. 

It is noted that the creature's blood glows, and is shown through the veins in it's wings and dried scars, though it's teeth and claws seem to do the same. Despite this, Nos has a lethal weakness to light of any kind, regardless of if it is artificial or natural, and sunlight in particular is fatal. Lamps, flashlights, and even cell phone light all cause burns to appear on it's flesh. This weakness only weakens when its form seems to change (only witnessed by the SCP who calls himself Athen).

The creature is 12 ft tall, and has a 50 ft wingspan. This may change, however, depending on the state of hunger of the SCP. When full, he has the minor ability to hide in shadows, and his wings take the appearance of tattoos on the back. His height changes to around 7 ft, assumed so that he can try to blend in with his prey. He has trouble standing in direct sunlight without severe burns, but has a no repercussions from artificial light in this stage. His form only changes as his hunger grows, and the size will increase until he has achieved 12ft again.

Week #50

344. Birdie Ladies and Gents: A hat store. Ran by a pair of Bansheebugs - a nomadic species of unknown origin - they have various hats from all over Nthspace. Some people suspect that they might be vampires, but others have seen them hatless, and we all know hatless vampires turn to stone.

345. Sorrow Café: A very sad café of unknown origin. There are many people in Nthspace who don't know where their species is from, and this café caters to them. The proprietor, Mz Iltoe - dubbed as a Sorrow Lamia - found quite a family this way.

346. Children of Explosion Suburbs: A little suburb of identical houses. This is a home to a species of robots of unknown origin, that can be found in asteroids in any deep space region. They all wear fedoras, smoke pipe, play explosions on their screens and take white collar jobs.

347. Mathematical Temp Agency: A perfectly normal temp agency. Its only called Mathematical because of the pi-oneers, who pi-ne for the mathematical regions of OUTSIDE. Though most of them has never been in the white void outside spaces, and have only heard about it from their grandparents.

348. Air-, Space and Voidport Guild: An ornate building housing the union of air, space and void employees. Most notable about them is the amount of Traffic Signals, which are sentient data, who work as truckers and forklift operators, with absolutely no desire for driving void or space ships. There are also many Hitchhiker Angels about, who like to join as Stewards to travel as much as possible for free, exploiting the fact that they bring good luck to travellers.

349. Secondary Directive Insititute: An organizatin documenting civilizations of uncontacted worlds. The Folk Of Lizard, the MEN, the Warmachines, the Dryads, the psionic birds of Demic, all documented here. Its good to know about these mysterious and dangerous folks, as, contacting them is only a matter of time.

350. Heckwalkers, Inc: The leading Strange Energy Institue. Currently, lead by Dr If Rank, from the company Ziggurat (which predates his tenure), producing the fuel needed to travel between Spaces. A strange creature made of brass bells, his allience with the morbid scientists from both Paradox and Punk is as unshakable as his desire to save his cursed homeworld.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

[[okay so something you should know going into this ask is that a lot of the OCs on my blog started as AUs for Rockwell and MZ (@thegatesofinfinitespace ). Volt, Rho, Raz, and Lexi are just a handful of examples.

What tends to happen is we go "haha this would be a fun one off AU" either because something sounds like a fun one shot, or because we want to explore a trope. Then it escalates into full world building and multiple character arcs.

For Volt and Vesper? It was the fantasy AU where ROCK gets to be the monster boyfriend for once. Let's be real, MZ is already a vampire in main canon, and in several other AUs that we have he's typically the big monster bf (-points at KiZ and Lexi who were originally a separate AU from Vesper and Volt as an example).

It was a pretty simple "if Rockwell was a monster what kind would he be" ask. Since I couldn't see him as many other monsters besides a werewolf (which we'd done before with Lexi), a wrath demon is the obvious next choice and, well... there you go. So you could say that was the very first decision I ever made about him really was the "type" of demon he'd be.

From there it was self indulgence station. It wasn't well known at the time (though it's surely obvious now) BUT I LOVE MONSTER CHARACTERS AND DESIGNS. I specifically drew Volt from the ground up with the intention that he would be fun for ME to write and draw.

Claw hands??? Monster feet? Dragon wings??? Sharp teeth!!! Long tongue??? Horns?!?! stripes??? Fluffy hair!!! Pointy ears!!?! There is literally not a single part of him picked out for any reason other than "I like drawing that".

Which I think is very fitting for a creature who grants wishes and never stops wanting.

I promptly wouldn't stop drawing him as soon as he had a full design OR commissioning him from other people. Like, the only character on my toyhouse who has more art than him IS the original Rockwell.

He's been living rent free in my head for years and has the highest honor I can bestow on a muse which is their own playlist. Which is a big deal because all of my favorite muses have playlists which range from about 50 to 150+ songs lol so you don't get one unless I'm really obsessed.]]

🍀 CLOVER - do they believe in luck? are they lucky?

((LMAO YEAH.

Zain not only believes in luck and all the superstitons that fall under it; he is extremely unlucky. It sometimes feels like the universe is out to get him, as anything from making friends to getting a date is typically nigh impossible for the Zero. 

Suffice to say that when he was attempting to ask Xanti out, something always kept him from being able to do even so much as completing the sentence. Klaxons going off, calls from Hunters for backup, his duty as Commander, Mavericks attacking, thunderstorms... Even managing to score a date always ended up with the restaurant either being closed when they got there or, you guessed it, another Maverick attack. Literally anything and everything until it was almost comedic. 

This... unfortunately extends onto other aspects of his life, though. Zain’s consistenly dealt a bad hand regardless of the situation. You could say that it gave him the chance to build skill-- it takes a lot of it to counter horrible hostage situations, busters and weapons jamming, an excessive amount of Irregular attacks. Normally this ends in the blond himself getting harmed... but if he can save lives as the counter for his injuries, he’d take it.))

((MZ... unbeknownst to some, is actually a rather superstitious individual, but different in the way Zain is. 

Arguably he’d consider himself more cautious (Rock calls it paranoid) than anything else, but certainly will go out of his way to avoid invoking the wrath of Lady Luck. He wouldn’t consider himself her favorite, even if his husband is. 

Whether or not he has good luck is hard to say... But he would think not if the loops have anytihng to say about it. Going through them over and over and over and OVER again certainly suggests he doesn’t.))

((Mave! Is not sure.

He wouldn’t really know how to begin to wager his own luck, let alone believe in it, especially when he’s been dealt equal halves. 

Doesn’t have a personaliy? Bad luck. Learning how to gain one from Cale and Verse? Good luck. Befriending Cale? Good luck. Cale being dead the whole time? Bad luck. Falling in love with Cale during that period, and then Cale getting a second chance at live? Good... luck...? Until you consider Cale has no recollection of being dead and having a relationship with Mave despite being very much simply a ghost.....

....Eh. Again, 50/50.))

Jó tanácsok kezdőknek egy öreg motorostól

A motoros nők mellett - jó esetben van egy aggódó motoros férfi, aki ahol tud, segít, és sok éves tapasztalatával tanácsokkal látja el a kezdő motorosokat. József szintén ezek közé a férfiak közé tartozik, így alább olvashatjuk részletes tanácsait. Tisztelt hölgyeim! Tanítottam már meg, még sosem motorozott embereket, az alapokra. Már ami a kezelőszervek kezelését, az elindulás-megállást, az irányjelzést, irányváltásokat, az ehhez kapcsolódó, ezért igen fontos, súlypont-áthelyezéseket illeti. De ez, nem az első, hanem a külön-külön, meg az együttes fékhasználatot, (AZ ELSŐ FÉK, NEM MAJRÉVAS!) ill. a szlalomozást, nyolcasozást, ezek kombinációját, utassal is, a végén. A többit, magától sajátítja el mindenki is, lehetőleg ésszel közlekedvén. Jó tanács! Térdvédő, könyökvédő, meg kesztyű is kell, nem csak sisak. Nem azért húzunk kesztyűt, mert fázik a kezünk, ugyebár. Megfelelő lábbeli, az nem árt. Itt sem a motoros csizma, azonnali megléte a lényeg, hanem egy olyan lábbeli, amely a bokát is tartja ugyan, viszont érezni is kell benne, a sebességváltót, meg a hátsó féket. (!!!) Mert váltós motor kell, nem robogó, azt leszögezném. Ez fontos kritérium, mert váltós motorral tanulva, jobban átülhetünk később, egy valamilyen robogóra, mint fordítva. Nem is szükséges, azonnal beszerezni, egy méregdrága, fullprotektoros overállt, mert csak belerohad, a gyakorlás során megizzadván, mert mindez, viszonylag lassú tempóval történik, lehetőleg földúton. Hogy miért? Mert amit földúton begyakorolt, az az aszfalton, tutira menni fog. Hepe-hupa, az is akad, szép számmal, ezért nem is lesz tán, túlságosan vakmerő sem, túl korán, az a tanuló. Az első, amit el szoktam mondani, hogy a relatív (!!!) gyorhajtás az, ami a leghamarabb, meg a legbiztosabban öl meg, az utakon. Meg az, ha nem pislogsz bele, a q. tükörbe, mindensűrűn. Főleg, irányváltoztatásra készülvén... stb. Ja, meg a közút, az nem versenypálya! A "kétszáz alatt szédülő"-típusú emberek, csupáncsak azt nem veszik figyelembe, hogy olyan gyorsan történnek a dolgok, meg fogynak el, az értékes távolságok, méterben kifejezve, hogy az lereagálhatatlan, bárki számára is, mármint akkora tempónál. https://csajokamotoron.hu/elo-a-motorokkal-alap-atnezesi-tanacsok-bevetes-elott Motorválasztás A motorválasztás terén, ki szoktam hangsúlyozni, az ülésmagasság, meg az önsúly kérdését. Az ülésmagasság, az a lábak leérése szempontjából, a súly meg, pont azért lényeges, hölgyek esetében, mert aki alacsony és/vagy nem olyan erős fizikumú, mint egy női súlyemelő, vagy testépítő, annak ezek, kardinális kérdések. Néhány centit, még lehet is csalni, egy vastagabb sarkú lábbelivel. Viszont, aki nagyon picire nőtt, annak a Honda Dax, vagy a Honda Monkey-szerű motorok valók. A köbcenti is, untig elég lesz, elsőre. A filigránabb, gyengébb fizikumú hölgyeknek meg, jó megoldás lehet, egy könnyebb, aluvázas motor. Keskenyebb felépítésű, könnyebb, viszont nem alacsony motor pld. egy Derbi Senda / Aprilia RX. A Derbikhez pl. 50/70/88 cm³-es hengerszett is van, ezért bőven van benne, egy pár év használhatóság, mert a fokozatos fejlődést követve, szépen meg lehet növelni, a motorunk teljesítményét. Nem kell lenézni, az 50-cm³-es segédmotorokat se. Azzal is, jót lehet ám bukni, viszont legalább nem egy olyan kb. 200+kg-os motorral takarózik be! Ez is egy lényeges szempont. Én, a magam részéről, egy betekerős, pedálos Verhovinával kezdtem. Még 1987-88-ban. Japánban pl. 400 cm³-ben maximálták, az újonnan forgalomba helyezhető motorok esetében, a hengerűrtartalmat. Ami enyhe túlzás ugyan, viszont elgondolkodtató, hogy mindez, pont a Hondák, Yamahák, Suzukik, Kawasakik szülőhazájában történt. Vajon miért!? Hogy ne halj meg, meg más sem, azért! Legalábbis gondolom. Mindenkit is, csak buzdítani tudok arra, aki még nem teszi, hogy motorozni kezdjen. De a józan eszét, meg az ítélőképességét, azt ne hagyja otthon, mert különben nem lesz más, mint "élő szövet, a fémvázon." (!!!) A fenti poszt az abszolút laikus, teljesen kezdő hölgyekről szólt, akiket motorozásba kezdésre bíztatnak. Az apukám, gépjárművezető-oktató volt, anno. Tudom, hogy mennyire küzdelmes is lehet, egy hölgy számára, a vezetni tanulás. Ezen belül, a motorozás az, ami nagyon is kardinális kérdéseket vet fel, a hölgyek esetében. A "nehéz napokon", pl. Ugyebár, ez nekünk pasiknak, még csak eszünkbe sem jut, pedig annak a motornak, bizony súlya van, azokon a bizonyos napokon is. És így tovább... sorolhatnám... Széles utat, mindenkinek is, tisztelt hölgyek! Csak arra vigyázzanak/vigyázzatok, hogy ezeken a jó rázós, hazai utakon, "meg ne egye, az a bizonyos macska, azt a nyerget!"
