Can we please stop treating the Barbie movie as a platform to just say whatever the fuck you want?

Ive seen so many posts about the barbie movie being about the importance of equality, voting, etc

Which lets get one thing clear. I LOVED the Barbie movie! Its so freaking good with amazing messages.

BUT

Its not the end all be all for equality or how things should not be run. Its also not good for only women to be in charge folks.

At the end of this movie the barbies as a whole learn next to nothing and everything goes back to how it was before except now the barbies are 🤏 this much more aware of ken.

if you’ve been keeping up with the kardashians - or just with what’s been going on in the media lately - you may have stumbled upon a brand new term: “sex denialism”. some people love it, some hate it, some are afraid of it - and it seems to have caused quite the outrage in the scientific community - but you may be wondering to yourself: what is “sex denialism” even about?

well, if you’re looking for an explanation, look no further! this brand new hot-button issue revolves around a question that, on its face, seems quite simple: do people have sex or do they not? as you will see, however, answering this question has proven rather complicated.

it’s in our favorite tv shows, on the billboards we drive by, even in our children’s textbooks - but is sex really real? prompted by a dec 1 post on e. musk’s infamous platform, twitter, which called the phenomenon into question, people around the world have been discussing the possibility of sex being all just a great big lie - an adult fairytale, if you will.

the tweet was controversial, gaining many supporters as well as many opponents. it was retweeted by public figures as prominent as stephen king - though his stance on the topic remains unclear. there were also many dissenting voices, with people allegedly flooding the original poster’s inbox with insults (namely “virgin”) but also deep, thought-provoking questions like “if sex isn’t real, how were you born?”

we have asked experts to weigh in on the matter. richard goberpober, a biology professor at the university of milwaukee, assured us that “sex is definitely real. it is the only way some organisms, like humans, can reproduce”, and “look, i’m not saying everyone has a lot of it, but our species would go extinct without it.” however, there doesn’t seem to be a clear consensus on the matter in the scientific community. robert albert, a geologist who has dedicated the better part of his life to the study of magic crystals, went on record saying “when you really think about it, sex [...] is nothing more than another instrument in the hands of the feminists, who seek to establish matriarchy by using the promise [of sex] against us. in all my 45 years of life, i’ve [...] never seen it happen.”

we have reached out to millionaire taylor swift for comment on the issue. “sex? i have never seen hole,” she responded evasively, then added, “and stop asking me about it, or my lawyer will be in touch.” we have also reached out to stephen king on twitter, however, he declined to comment.

much to the shock of his fans, sex education star ncuti gatwa came out in support of the controversial tweet in his new interview for teen vogue. while the show he has previously starred in promotes the idea that sex exists, he is apparently of the opposite opinion. “even my parents told me about it, but i’ve come to realize that it’s probably not real,” he claimed, further insinuating that, “it could be a lot like santa, you know, or the tooth fairy. except grown adults believe in this stuff.” when pressed on why exactly he believes sex is not real, he explained, “a lot of people think i have, but i’ve actually never had it. it just... doesn’t seem natural. i mean, i use mine to urinate. and you’re telling me i should be putting it in some sort of vortex? what if it gets lost in there?” the interviewer has since commented that gatwa appeared distraught by the possibility. when asked whether he would continue to star in the popular show, he declined to answer.

ultimately, this topic has proven to be quite divisive, splitting society into two different camps: sex believers and sex deniers. which one are you?

sunset savanna social headcanons

i’ve posted some of — if not most of — these here and there in various places across various platforms, and i thought i ought to compile them so i can easily paint a picture of what the sunset savanna is like in my mind’s eye. it’s important to me that i have a solid idea about where leona comes from. ( and if canon throws all this out, i’ll be very sad because i think it’s very good. )

the palace is a lively place, with nobles living there to support the royal family and each other. this allows the children of nobles to grow and play and socialize with those around their age, and it allows important bonds to form in all directions. ( my list describing some of those who live in the palace can be found here. )

related to that: communal care is very important. both the young and the old are cared for, with the young raised equally by all the parents — even adults without children of their own are expected to and do pitch in more often than not.

the monarchy ( and the country it rules ) is neither a patriarchy nor a matriarchy. birth order decides all, heedless of gender.

related to that, there is no concept of consort where the monarchy is concerned. upon marrying the ruler of the sunset savanna, the spouse becomes an equal ruler in their own right. ( it was leona and falena’s mother who inherited her rule, while their father married into it. )

before arranged marriages were no longer practiced, it’s easy to imagine that those former customs led to some intense political situations where mariticide was concerned. fortunately now that marriage is based on choice and more often than not love, that is less of an issue. the history books are fun, though.

a very important aspect is: it is nothing like our world. there is no feminism, because the culture is very egalitarian in several ways and there is no misogyny that needs to be combated.

one reason i have leona’s orientation listed as unlabeled is, yeah, because he just doesn’t care, but that’s also cultural. there isn’t as much of a push towards labels; people are just themselves first and foremost. same - gender relationships are accepted. trans people are accepted. polyamorous relationships are accepted. these are all simply facets of life and aren’t thought about as anything worth noting — they just are.

all that said, there is still a poverty problem based on inherent classism. it’s a big problem.

It's personal to me because I follow you. Say what you will about parasocial relationships but I saw that post in my feed and thought you were getting a bad impression from folks who had axes to grind in the opposite direction. My impression of you is that you're a cool enough person, so you deserved to know a different piece of the score. And I also used to follow trilllizard and he could be funny at times but he could also pull some surprisingly racist shit out of his ass so I stopped. Several people apparently had enough stake in things to try to paint him as an innocent autistic kid who happened to like his gender more than the Tumblr Matriarchy™️ would permit. But there was more to him than that, and some of it was pretty negative. What happened to him isn't about justification or justice, acts of compassion or efficient ways to deplatform racists (and let's be honest, he barely had a platform to begin with more than the bare minimum tumblr gives anybody). It's about not throwing bigotry stones in glass houses. One can-to some degree- influence the kind of response a person has, but not its proportionality so much. So maybe instead of leading with one's racist foot one can start on the good foot instead. That way they don't trip over somebody who has the time to waste and the impetus to make them a meme. That's all.

Oh, I definitely think those people had axes to grind! It just also seemed like there were enough of them saying the same things about following this person around that, despite their bias, they could be taken to be accurately reporting that the source of a popular meme was actually a harassment campaign. Which makes that meme, which already seemed jerky (really, filling someone’s notify rather than just not reading them?) really gross, which I commented on.

And there WAS a screenshot showing that at least one thing Tri said was pretty minor—yes, some straight women on tumblr do kind of talk about men like incels talk about women, as if they are horrifically cursed to want sex with subhumans, but such is the Power of Horny—and that this is what led to the meme.

Could it also be that the person has made a LOT of worse comments and that post was just the straw that broke the well seasoned penis? Yes, but I literally could not find details for one, and for two, “I only became and remained part of a sustained harassment campaign because I was really mad” isn’t much of a gotcha even if he said vile things.

Okay, Flint has now given Leia a love interest - basically Isolder, but with fewer planets and less matriarchy. But he’s upset that Han treats Threepio like a servant, so he can’t be all bad though he might be secretly evil, even if he is otherwise a cardboard cutout.

Of course, Threepio is then kidnapped by unknown assailants, though they don’t stay unknown for long.

“Utilizing this transmitter,” Voss lifted a closed hand and opened it, showing Threepio a small disk on his palm, “which we will implant in you. And, using a special code, you will send a message to us just as soon as the destination is learned.”

“And just what makes you think I would cooperate in such a treacherous act?” the droid said indignantly, pulling himself defiantly up as much as his fetters would allow.

“Oh, you’ll have no choice in that,” the smirking Voss replied.

He gestured back toward the pudgy man as he stepped down from the platform. “You see, our good Doctor here is well adept in A. I. T.”

“Artificial Intelligence Transmogrification?” Threepio amplified, fear entering his voice.

Okay,yes, I know “transmogrification” is a synonym for “transformation” but it’s still impossible for me to take this seriously outside of Calvin and Hobbes. Anyway, it’s basically the same plot device from TROS except that Threepio is now actually evil.

Meanwhile, Luke is...well, see for yourself:

He was now stretched out spread-eagle on the sand, chained hand-and-foot to metal stakes. He had been stripped down to his trousers, the white flesh of his torso exposed to the merciless Tatooine suns. Exposed to something else, too. A curious, golden goo with a pungently sweet smell had been poured on his chest and was slowly oozing down his sides.

I know, I know, I know this isn’t meant to be funny, but this paragraph makes it sound like Luke went to a really kinky BDSM party in Space Burning Man Festival and I just... can’t stop laughing.

(the sap is to summon a Dune Maggot, which is also impossible to say with a straight face, although from the description it appears to be more slug-like, or at least in possession of a radula)

Anyway, Luke ends up with the Sand People, who have Obi-wan’s sugar bowl and deliver a colonialist critique that @teagrl has written extensively about and got me interested in this book in the first place. Unfortunately, we rush through all the interesting stuff to get to Luke having to fight his way out through single combat against one of their warriors, sigh.

BUT we do get a Tusken who has lived in the outside world (I guess he went on a Rumspringa of sorts?) and offers to help. Luke is too principled to cheat, even to save his life, but he does agree to a placid bantha mount since apparently they are jousting or something?

Anyway, I kept hoping this was an A’Sharad Hett cameo, but no such luck - turns out to be Pollux in disguise. Luke wins, refuses to kill his opponent, and this impresses everyone.

The shirtless young Jedi sat patiently on a stool in the throne room of the O-Tal while Jattal Or tended to his wounds. He had many of these. The fight with the dune maggots and his contest with Dovra Ackru had left little of his torso unmarked by vivid welts, bruises, and cuts.

The O-Tal—at the moment the room’s only other occupant—looked on from his rattan throne as his translator carefully smeared more ointment from an earthenware pot over the last welts. He was clearly admiring of the young man’s stoicism.

Yeah, sure he’s admiring Luke’s... *checks notes* “stoicism”. I know I am.

Meanwhile, Han and Prince Love Interest are sniping over carrying luggage and Wedge shows up to play Mr. Exposition. Leia dresses up, which makes Han jealous and uncomfortable and he and Leia argue while manipulating holo-chess pieces in a sequence I would enjoy more in a slightly different context and less stereotypical gender roles.

Threepio is OOC because of his reprogramming and it’s hilarious.

“Our relationship has changed,” the droid told him in a brusque, lecturing tone. “I am no longer going to play your slave or servant. My service is now to Princess Leia and this mission only. I am much too intelligent and valuable to be utilized otherwise. I will thank you to consider that factor from this point on.”

With this he pushed past Han and marched out of the cockpit.

“Well, I’m blowed!” said Han, looking after him. “You think you know your comrades...”

The Wookiee nodded and made a low, rumbling sound of commiseration.

Han moved to his seat and plopped himself down into it with a certain weariness.

“I don’t know, Chewy,” he said in a perplexed way. “Luke, Leia, and now him.” He shook his head. “Things are changing so fast, I don’t know who anybody is anymore.”

The Wookiee made a growl of protest at this, and Han quickly gave him a smile.

“Sorry. I meant ‘except for you’, old pal,” he assured.

D’awww. Most of this book so far has made me raise my eyebrows but every now and then there’s a passage or idea that’s spot-on, and I really like it.

5: How has history constructed & molded your lair’s culture, morals and ideals, if at all?

Not the lair directly as it is quite young in lore, only a few years at most now.

However my founder, Scheelite, was raised in a noble family with the expectation to become her matriarchial successor, and she despised all of the harm that came to her, Cobalt, and her dad from it due to the expectations and roles, and when she found her charge she was more than happy to leave it all behind, and I think it shows, both in how she runs the lair, and by connection how things work in the lair.

For example, she wants the lair inhabitants to respect her not for her status but for the things she has done, and if someone shouldn't, then she understands to try harder, opposing what her mother taught her.

12: Does your lair have any slang, insults or jargon? If so, what is it, what is it’s origin, use and is it exclusively used by certain groups?

I never really explored this much, I'm positive with all the scholars and higher educated dragons there has to be some kind of jargon but there just isn't enough going on to create an environment for that kind of stuff.

18: Does your society have folk tales, mythology, traditional rituals? Where do they originate? Do they have any truth to them?

Naturally! The lair is quite connected to windsinger and the twisting crescendo, living just on the edge of it.

There're tales of a thing called The Breeze, which dragons fleeing their old homes are said to have been guided by one way or another to New Moon, as it obscures the traveller's path, and gives them energy to continue.

You will also find many shrines on small paths leading to and from the lair, all in the name of windsinger, and maintained mostly by just one dragon, Obsidian.

They tend to have little offerings to the windsinger, but also things for passerbys to take when needed, such as bits of food with a long shelf life, occasionally even a coat or some tools.

There are also folk tales about Marble, the skydancer statue in the round marketplace of the lair, it is said to move on it's own and even be dangerous at night if you're alone.

It's mostly a tale told to hatchlings to make sure they don't stay out too long but then again there have been accounts of movement, and scrapes around the statue's platform.

Q&A August: Me, Myself, and I

Hey everyone! I’m back from my break! Well… sort of. Various personal crises and professional obligations have reared their heads, and I need to take some time to work them all out. Fortunately, I have lots of amazingly generous Shakespeare friends who have agreed to help me out by answering some (hopefully) fun questions about Shakespeare and themselves.

Now, I try never to ask anyone to do something I would not do, so I’m going first.

1. Who are you? Why Shakespeare

I'm Mya Gosling, the artist and author of Good Tickle Brain, the world's foremost and possibly only stick figure Shakespeare webcomic. (But, since you're reading this, you probably already knew that...) My love of Shakespeare started when I was around 10 years old and my father showed me the Laurence Olivier film of Henry V. Since then I've been fortunate enough to see almost all of Shakespeare's plays performed live. For the past six years I've been sharing my love of Shakespeare with people through the incongruous medium of stick figure comics. My attitude towards Shakespeare can be summarized in two main points: a) he's a lot of fun, and b) don't take him too seriously.

2. What moment(s) in Shakespeare always make you laugh?

In the middle of the chaotic final scene of Cymbeline, in which about a dozen improbable dangling plot threads are being improbably resolved by a series of improbable revelations, the Doctor pipes up with the line "O gods! I left out one thing..." It's a line that, while not funny in and of itself, is absolutely hysterical in context and never fails to make me laugh.

3. What's a favorite Shakespearean performance anecdote?

I saw a local university production of Much Ado About Nothing where the actor playing Claudio had come down with a nasty stomach bug. There were no understudies, so the actor playing the Sexton was drafted to step in. He wandered around the stage, clutching the script binder like a life raft and exuding a genuine insecurity that made his hapless Claudio much more sympathetic than usual. I spent the entire first two acts waiting eagerly for Beatrice to say "Speak, Count, 'tis your cue." It was an appropriately cathartic meta-theatrical moment.

4. What's one of the more unusual Shakespearean interpretations you've either seen or would like to see?

I was lucky enough to see the RSC's current production of The Taming of the Shrew, which is set in an Elizabethan matriarchy with an almost entirely gender-flipped cast (Petruchio is played as a woman by a woman, Kate is played as a man by a man, etc.). It was very well done, and surprisingly thought provoking on a number of levels that I did not expect. Even the way the costumes were used, with the women's large dresses not being seen as encumbrances but rather a means for them to physically take up more space (i.e. woman-spreading), was fascinating. I’d like to see more productions play around with the gender of characters and see what effect it has.

5. What's one of your favorite Shakespearean "hidden gems"?

He’s not hidden, and he’s definitely not a gem, but I’ve had a character crush on Hotspur ever since I first saw Henry IV part 1 back in 2001. Objectively, he’s a totally thoughtless and impulsive jerk, but he’s so charismatic and compelling and entertaining that he just completely carries me away. I’m mature enough now to realize he’d be absolutely terrible for me, but I’m still carrying a tiny torch for that gunpowder Percy.

6. What passages from Shakespeare have stayed with you?

This is awfully cliched, but one of the first bits of Shakespeare that I committed to memory was the opening chorus from Henry V: "O for a muse of fire, etc. etc." How can you not fall in love with a paean to the imagination? The ability to conjure something out of nothing has always excited and inspired me, and this speech so perfectly encapsulates the imaginative and collaborative magic not only of theatre, but of any creative profession. (The Salic Law speech, which I memorized when I first started this comic back in 2016, has also stayed with me, mostly because it's a great party piece, if also an unfortunately effective way to get people to punch you in the face.)

7. What Shakespeare plays have changed for you?

From first impression to most recent impression, the play that has changed the most for me over the years is The Winter's Tale. I really didn't like it the first time I saw it: Leontes was obviously an irredeemably horrible character, so I didn't see why I should care about him getting an undeserved happy ending, plus the Bohemia bits were interminable and pointless. However, each successive time I've seen it, a little bit more of its magic has been unlocked for me. I still think the Bohemia bits are interminable and pointless, and that Autolycus is an immensely overrated and tiresome character, but the hope and forgiveness permeating the latter half of the play is starting to melt my stony heart. I still don't love it, and I may never love it, but I appreciate it more and more every time I encounter it.

8. What Shakespearean character or characters do you identify the most with?

Recently I've identified very strongly with Peter Quince. All he wants to do is entertain people, but nothing quite works out the way he's planned, and it looks like everything is going to be a disaster, and he's very worried and stressed out all the time, but in the end he (inadvertently) produces a work of comic genius. I relate very strongly to all of that. I have aspirations to be a Beatrice, but honestly compels me to admit that I am not.

Updates on the blog, Halfway Home and the Future

Hey gang, what’s up.

Hope you’re all fine in this very fine day. Here it’s windy, and there are still way too many ducks.

Stuff happened on my side. One of my cats died recently, so that was a bit hard, especially because I’m so far away I could do absolutely nothing as he did. But sadly that’s life, and loss remains a big part of it.

I have almost finished my essay on Salarian Reproduction, which is more a biological-social study on the nature of matriarchy, the power dynamics of passing on genes to offspring, and why I took the decisions I did. So not porn sorryyyyy. It’s 7 pages long, has not been reviewed by actual biologists yet, and still misses a conclusion. I’d also like to make it pretty and make at least one illustration (maybe more), so this is still work in progress, though almost done. I am still not sure about where to post that, buuut I’ll be discussing that below.

On Halfway Home’s side I’m almost done with sending the new outline for review. I had a first round of edits that came after a preview look from a close friend, which highlighted a bunch of pending problems I’m trying to fix right now.

I also took two batshit crazy decisions: I removed Mordin Solus from the plot, and Shlee is no longer biotic. These two are quite enormous and required bold changes, but I cannot stress out how glad I am that I took the jump. Shlee has lost nearly all his plot armor at once, became incredibly vulnerable and gained so much inner strenght in contrast at once, and Mordin really was a relic from the games, both in tone and arcs that I have pushed aside as Halfway Home more and more become its own thing divorced from the trilogy’s original tone.

As a result I feel like the politics of the story have become clearer (which was NEEDED guys you have no idea) and Shlee is navigating them better too, so I am super glad. The gigantic batarian subplot has improved significantly lately (I am starting to get to a really strong place with Khocress), Aria also developed a stronger arc… I am still struggling with krogans a bit, but we’ll see what betas think of that.

So yeah, we are getting somewhere I hope!

The last thing I want to touch on is that I’ve been thinking of leaving tumblr for a while, as I’m not happy with the platform for a bunch of reasons, one of them being the atmosphere in here really getting to me. I have been wanting to develop a platform for Halfway Home outside of here for a while, where I feel I can dive into more personal and deeper themes and explorations that matter to me, and not have the stressful social network things (likes and all), that can make me feel like I’m talking in the void, or makes me afraid to be entirely honest about a lot of stuff for the sake of untroubling the polite tranquility of the tumblr seas.

So I’m working on creating a blog outside of tumblr, that I will link here for a while so I’m still around and can still see all of your stuff, but I think stuff related to Halfway Home, my think pieces and a lot more will migrate on a place I have more control over and feel like I can discuss stuff without censoring myself. I would also love to uplift things you do that I find great and meaningful in this fandom, and I’d like this platform to reference this as well.

So maybe the essay of Salarian Reproduction will happen there ! I’ll keep you updated.

Tonight We Drink to New Life

On Sunday, January 6, 2019, esteemed actor Regina King echoed the sentiment of her character, Sharon Rivers, when she issued an oral call to arms to her fellow movie and television makers to produce media with half the sky, and drink to a new life, which includes women in active roles both behind and in front of the camera. What a last day of Christmas, always and forever day of the epiphany gift that would be to the world if that truly happens. Watching the trailer for “If Beale Street Could Talk” the film, which has so far garnered award nods from the New York Film Critics Circle, the National Board of Review and the Golden Globes, for Regina King in her role as the mother of Tish Rivers. The story follows the plot of the wrongfully incarcerated Alonzo “Fonny” Hunt, portrayed by actor Stephan James, an innocent who has been effectively framed by a white police officer for the rape of a Puerto Rican woman in the neighborhood of Harlem, while at the same time Hunt receives news that his childhood friend and soon-to-be-wife, the 19-year-old Tish Rivers, portrayed by actor KiKi Layne, is pregnant. To quote from the Atlantic article, writer Hannah Giorgis surmises, “If Beale Street Could Talk chronicles their gentle romance, as well as the strained fortitude of the Harlem families who support the two and help Tish prepare for the baby who arrives while Fonny is in carceral limbo.”

Watching a mini behind the scenes doc featuring members of the film's cast and crew recently published exclusively to the Huffington Post, can give one chills as it powerfully describes some of the significance relative to this adaptation of Baldwin's work with particular regard to the power of the love not just between the protagonists, but also the love of the black families of Harlem coming together in the face of this heinous crime to live by example the maxim “it takes a village” For instance director Barry Jenkins describes the power of intellectualizing current political circumstances through the characters narratives.

For further information, see the aforementioned Atlantic article that chronicles the movie's Apollo Theatre premiere which details how the Baldwin family was reluctant at first to the adaptation of the novel but came around when they understood the cultural vision for the film's narrative. And their reluctance is understandable, because a novel, much like a poem, has infinite dexterity for readers' imagination to grow with, but once the imagery travels through the tunnel of adaptation to film, though films can be recast and revised in certain skilled hands, the images have immortally become initially impressed on the public imagination thus altering forever the author's literary vision.

In dark and scary times such as these Baldwin's words which declare “Neither Love Nor Terror Make One Blind: Indifference Makes One Blind” echo a glimmer of the cultural significance of Regina King's call to action last Sunday. It has been 34 years since the collective consciousness birth of the Bechdel Test via comic artist Alison Bechdel who in 1985 published “Dykes to Watch Out For” in The Rule. Are men so indifferent to the insult of their inaction that communicates to women their stories are irrelevant? Why has it taken so many generations for the #metoo movement to galvanize political will for real change in action?

Film has historically been an elitist model masquerading as a popular artform. It very much mirrors the oligarchy masquerading as our democracy in action in this manner. As the top down traditional studio model continues to disintegrate, as movies continue to erode from their once singular dominance as the cultural face shaping mainstream public consciousness, it is an important contemporaneous moment to speak to why Madame King's platform invocation at the Golden Globes is so culturally significant.

If one is to research the Bechdel test at any length, the patriarchal biases for why the systemic problem persists are well documented . Finances, and the mistaken perception that female leads and narratives fail to drive sales are prolific examples. In the top 100 grossing films of 2012, women accounted for 4.1 percent of directors, 12.2 percent of writers and 20 percent of producers, according to a 2013 study by Stacy Smith, an associate professor at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California. Of 4,475 speaking roles in those films, 28.4 percent were women. Smith says when more women were involved in the production of a film, it was more likely to have female cast members. In short, when one gender dominates the creative process for a picture, that comes out on the screen.

When one thinks about these examples combined with the preface of the disintegrating studio system, one can consider the argument that as the independent studio system emerges as the viable option for television and film as an industry, then these questions of a laissez-faire resolution to the Bechdel test issue will be met in a classical sense, as in supply meeting demand. To state this idea in another manner, in a similar way to how financiers predicted a complete crash in the disintegration of the hard copy book model of industry at the emergence of the online retail market; though diminished, people who love books will always really love books and those people want the tactile feel that an electronic copy can never deliver. Extend this to the concept of cinema as a community, though DVDs are dead as a doornail, people who really love cinema will always really love cinema and those people will go out to see the film in its theatrical release because they understand the larger scope of everything involved in the nexus of art and commerce involved in the production of a quality film like “If Beale Street Could Talk” A specific example herein could be the film “Springbreakers' put out by the studio A24 based in NYC. It is likely that this studio chose to produce this film aware of the intent to reach an audience which already had an awareness of the Bechdel test and would be the type of crowd that would like to entertain a conversation about a film that addresses the complexity of patriarchy and matriarchy because they follow the work of a director like Harmony Korine, an actor like James Franco, and/or a hottie artist like Selena Gomez, and thus much like an artist who puts work up in a new gallery exhibition and trusts that the right people will show up and that's it, there is an argument that in a similar way that studios who are conscious of the niche audiences they are creating artwork through film for will take a local economy laissez-faire approach to their individual solution to more female representation, both in front of and behind the camera.
