Power Rangers Headcanons

Troy Burrows has an older brother named Roman. Their parents are completely unoriginal when naming them. Roman works in the entertainment industry and keeps regular contact with Troy.

RJ and Casey’s engagement was met with excitement and disapproval. Master Finn was none too thrilled by their engagement and made his displeasure known, he was not invited to the wedding.

Conner does not immediately go to college after graduating, taking time to work on his soccer camp and charity. He volunteers and explored his options, with the help of his friends Hayley, Dr. O and his brother Erik. He eventually decided to venture out of Reefside attending College in another city and explore himself. He eventually ends up working under Hunter working on movies, TV shows, and small films as a crew member.

the moment of power rangers megaforce i think about the most, hands down, no contest, is when troy gets everyone excited about going to see a rock concert because orion doesn't know about earth music... they get to the concert and it's literally recycled footage of antonio and mia's charity concert from super samurai. and i think about this so often because:

despite their band being called the rebel rockers, "everyday fun" is not a rock song (but orion doesn't know this so he will probably hear van halen out of context one day and be very confused)

it didn't have to be a samurai cameo, it could have just been a random rock band and if they didn't want to write a new song, "everyday fun" was still right there

can you imagine how much funnier it would have been if instead of cutting the megaforce cast bopping around to mia and antonio's performance they had used a clip of any of the following iconic performances from ranger history:

kira's "patiently" music video shoot

cam shredding the guitar on "totally talented"

theo's adorably tone deaf karaoke performance of "this little light of mine"

princess shayla and merrick singing the deer zord song

one of vida's dj sets on the mini stage at the rock-porium

(all of these scenarios should be presented their original aspect ratio and film quality and with the unintended hilarious implications that none of the characters have aged)

Why was Megaforce and Samurai's dialogue like... that?

Like Power Rangers dialogue are cheesy and quippy across the board just the way I like it. But Samurai and Megaforce so often had this… placeholder lines vibe at times where they just say, "We gotta [thing we know they're gonna do and doesn't need saying]" or just… stuff that barely feels punchy as well as generically heroic.

That and the weird way they talked during combat, especially close-quarters. Nothing quick or snappy but full sentences that feel tacked on. Even Mighty Morphin' didn't make the dialogue this dumbed down.

It's just… weird, weird, weird. There's a deep dive to be made about the peculiar presentation of the initial Neo-Saban era.

Friday, October 13: Testament, "The Haunting"

A sizable portion of Testament’s fanbase still considers The Legacy among the best things they’ve ever recorded, if not actually the best.  No doubt a lot of that is based on nostalgia, but perhaps another reason is that relative to the other thrash records released during that 1985-1988 golden stretch, their debut had a darkness to it that went well beyond the snarky nihilism of Death Angel and Overkill towards something more malevolent and extreme.  “The Haunting” had the same level of frenzy and aggression that was common to mid ‘80s thrash, but Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson wrote nastier riffs and arrangements, and while Steve Souza’s words were typical thrash fare, Chuck Billy helped invent death metal with growling that, although not without coherence and traces of melody, was much more bellicose than the nasally snarling of a Blitz, Zetro or Mark Osegueda.  This was meaner and just plain evil, though to be sure Testament hadn’t fully locked in as a band- it wouldn’t take them long to mature as writers, arrangers and players, but they weren’t there yet.
